Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I will give my honest opinion the first time I ever heard about this place I was expecting more then what I got it's more fast food style Mexican food not authentic like I thought it would be ... it's not the most tastiest food out there when it comes to Mexican it's lacking a lot of flavor it's definitely not a first date kind of place maybe a 50 date type of place.. they do have pretty good deals and pretty good prices the staff is pretty nice and I really love the artwork on the wall very unique. Overall if you want some good wholesome decent Mexican food. Come to Tijuana flats and check it out. If you're a college kid on a low budget and want something good. Come here this place is very hipster...

I had the Atom Bomb to start with and it was so good. Fresh jalapenos throughout. I ordered 2 tacos and they were a foot long each. Chips & cheese sauce to finish my meal. I recommend a large drink to wash it all down. I was so full when I was done.

I've been frequenting different Tijuana Flats locations around town since I moved to Jax.... and they are always quick and easy. Yesterday I slipped into this location for a quick meal during a hectic day and was pleasantly surprised. While the other spots aren't lacking in service, this one exceeded my expectations. My friend and I had semi complicated orders but the cashier didn't skip a beat. The food was delicious and exactly how we ordered it. Everyone working was in good spirits and we were checked on more than once throughout our short visit. It's a little out of my way but I'll definitely be visiting this location again.

Tijuana Flats is a great chain. They are consistent in their quality and service and I appreciate that. The place was also very clean with very decent bathrooms. This particular one was a spur of the moment stop for us and we were happy we came. Due to its proximity to NAS Jax, the decor is military-inspired but still funky cool. There is a great mural on the wall of the Jax skyline with anime/manga inspired monsters and Blue Angels jets fighting. The food was hot and fresh and came out fast, considering it was pretty darn busy for a Saturday. In fact, our appetizer came out just as we were sitting down. The food was very tasty and exactly as ordered. I love the fact that menu items are very customizable so you know the food is pretty much NOT premade in the back. The waitress was a great young lady who was very attentive but not overly so, and kept our drinks filled. When it was time to go, she not only gave us a to-go box but refilled the queso dip and gave us an extra sour cream/guacamole container for our leftovers. It's little touches like this that keep us coming back.

For my first round through it was not so bad. I went in around 7 p.m. and found the place mostly empty. Hey it was a Monday, I get it. Decor was fun , comical, definitively reminded me of my teen years and working at a Tattoo shop. Food was good, could have used a little more flavor but I guess that is where their hot sauces come in. The service was fast though. Their hot sauces are pretty stellar. They have a few beers on tap, even sangria in the cooler. I will eat their again if I am in the area but don't see myself making a special trip just because I feel like having Mexican. Their website gives you a good idea of what to expect when you arrive. I can see this being a great hang out for a late teens early 20's type of crowd. Food was reasonable on price and the portions were filling.

Stopped here for lunch on a weekend-first time checking out this location. Great guacamole and they gave us free refills on it. The quesadillas were really good too. All the servers were extremely attentive and checked on us many times. Will definitely come back!

Tijuana Flats is my family's fake-Mexican casual restaurant of choice in the Jax area. We've been to several locations and most often frequent the one in Riverside but occasionally drop in to this one as well. I have to say that of all the locations I've been to, this is my least favorite! In Riverside it feels like a nice open layout but here you feel a bit boxed in. But, what really matters to me is the food and the service. Unfortunately that is where this location really suffers. Not once has our food ever come to the table correct and all together. Something is always missing from our order and usually something was put in incorrectly, but worst of all, my wife's food always shows up 5-10 minutes after everyone else. It is a big no-no to bring everyone else their food except the hormonal pregnant woman at the table. She always keeps her composure but I can slowly see that deep in her eyes she is about to punch someone in the ovaries. What adds to the problem is that naturally me and my children don't want to suffer death-by-pregnant-woman so we sit and wait for her food to arrive before we eat ours.... and ours always ends up being cold. Now, they always apologize and fix our orders but that hardly makes up for this mistake happening over and over again at this location. Once we get our food as we actually ordered it, it tastes great but it would certainly be much nicer if it were warm. Tijuana Flats is known for having attentive staff who come and fill your drinks for you and check on you regularly. This location is no exception. In fact, they probably do it on over-kill here. I'm not complaining about that in particular but I can't help but wonder if they might be better served by just getting everything right in the first place and then regular visits to my table might not be as necessary. I almost always order the Bangin Chicken Burrito which hits my gut just right. I love the hot-sauce bar as well, even though you generally only find one or two sauces that will be to your liking. It's a great concept and I wish more restaurants would do it. If going to other locations is an option then I'd recommend that route but if not, you can always count on TF for good food at a fairly low price... but keep in mind that they might test your patience if you come as a group to this spot.

Can you say "Taco Tuesday"? Well it doesn't work when it is Monday. I finished ordering my food proudly and the waiter tells me: "You know it's Monday"? My heart sunk. So I went with the blacken chicken nachos. They were delicious and came loaded with toppings. A good amount of sour cream, guacamole and salsa. There complimentary hot sauce bar is always changing with great. My favorite is the peach hot sauce. The interior is decorate with military items. It compliments the local naval base which is great. They offer military discount as well which is awesome. A great little place off base to grab some chow off base.

I've had lunch and dinner here several times with an employer who likes it. Actually I think he enjoys the attention he gets from the girls more than anything. The food is what I'd call "ok" it's edible but many of the dishes lack flavor and as a result I carry a bottle of cumin when I know were are going there. The dish I like the best is the salad in a whole wheat shell. To be quite honest I'll never go there just on my own nor will I take anyone there. I find the bombardment of the TVs annoying. The music is SO LOUD YOU HAVE TO ALMOST SHOUT for the person across from the table to hear you. As for their service, I will compliment them highly. The cashiers & waitresses are always very cordial and friendly ( especially Savanah). I'll go as far to say she's the sweetest one there. As for their prices......TOO HIGH!!!

Good. Salsa bar. Busy at lunch. Very close to NAS Jax but very busy at lunch. For being a fairly busy place during lunch, the service is excellent. Management walks around and stops by each table to make sure you've got everything you ordered and are happy with your meal choices. Price is reasonable. Excellent choices at the salsa bar.

Driving down Roosevelt looking for tacos and came across this place. Had the Dos Tacos beef and they were great!! A lot of food for your money. The staff was attentive and friendly.

Love this place. Military discount on Thursdays.

I will start off by saying that I am from Arizona and Southern California. This place would not last a month anywhere West of Louisiana. I had the biggest carnitas burrito they offered. It was cold due to the abundance of wet iceberg lettuce stuffed inside as filler. The carnitas meat was simply unseasoned pulled pork and it was cooked to death and very dry. They do not have a salsa bar, they have a hot sauce bar that they offered me a taste of several of them. They seem more concerned with peddling the hot sauces from behind the counter. The girl's favorite that she suggested was a Thai sweet chili sauce. I am not sure if I was supposed to put sweet chili hot sauce on my carnitas burrito. The rice that came on the plate was also lukewarm and very bland. For a restaurant that brags about spicy flavors, this place was a major let down. Go to Taco Bell and save $5.

Great place to eat lunch. Eat at this place over Hurricane next door if you are trying to decide. Service is always great and food is always fresh. The only reason why I don't give a 5 star rating is because they skimp on the chips when you order to go.

I just eat here to hurt myself with ghost chili sauce. Good stuff.

My husband and I threw a wedding shower/engagement party for my sister and her fiancé last night, and had decided to go with Tijuana Flats for catering. Hands down the best decision we ever made regarding party food. Not only did everyone love the food and kept coming back for more, but Tijuana Flats made the process so easy. Matt, the manager, saw us looking at the catering menu while we were eating there a couple weeks ago and sat down with us and helped us figure out the best option for feeding around 40 people. He was so, so helpful, and was very flexible with our budget. Everything was ready for us when we showed up an hour before the party, and it was packaged and set-up for easy serving. I HIGHLY recommend working with Matt at Tijuana Flats if you need to cater a party, it was the perfect food choice that everyone loved. Yay tacos!

Tijuana Flats provides consistent quality food across their locations. This place is located in a small complex just north of NAS on 17. They have a few outdoor tables for open-air dining and a moderately sized interior. As usual, order at the counter and receive full service after paying. I'm always a bit unsure of this style of dining, as the tip is asked for up front on the receipt (and I usually tip via credit card for lack of cash in my wallet), but I have not yet received service... so basically you are pre-tipping for expected great customer service. Aside from that, the chicken tostadas that I ordered (all the way!) tasted great. I favor their sweet chili sauce for drizzling on my selections. If you haven't been to a Tijuana Flats before, they have a hot sauce bar in the restaurant and you can purchase their sauces to go from the counter. I don't really understand why their sauce containers are so tiny... I usually have to fill up 6 or 7 in order to get enough sauce for all of my food.... I can see having small ones to try out the flavors but now that I know which sauce I favor, I don't need a small cup anymore! All in all, it's A-OK. Aside from it's convenient location to base, I probably won't come back to this Tijuana Flats if I have the chance to make it to Riverside.
