I'm from South Florida. I grew up eating bagels at Jewish delis so when I moved to Jacksonville I had a hard time finding anything comparable. This place is absolutely wonderful. Anytime I'm on that side of town I make a point to stop in and grab a fresh bagel. My favorite is the jalapeño cheddar, toasted with chive cream cheese. Phenomenal. I have no idea what these other reviews are complaining about. You go in, choose what you want, get a delicious treat, and you're done. What more is needed? The staff have always been friendly to me, but maybe that's because I go in with a smile on my face and speak to them in a cheerful manner. If you want a low-key place and a seriously tasty bagel then go here. If you want bells and whistles, mediocre food, and corporate nonsense go to Einsteins or something. Also: take home some of "last night's bagels" with a tub of their cream cheese. Best breakfast at home ever.

Like the other reviewers stated, this place leaves much to be desired. It's just average and the bagels aren't anything to jump and down about. I ordered the spinach and cheese bagel with egg and cheese. The egg wasn't fresh and there was barely any cheese. The kids ordered plain bagels with cream cheese and while the cream cheese is made fresh on site, again, it just wasn't anything to call home about. The staff isn't overly friendly and doesn't welcome you upon entering nor do they explain the menu. We ordered 6 bagels and the bill was over $40! I feel like that's a little high for the quality of food. Unfortunately we won't be returning unless this place receives a major overhaul.

Food was good but service left something to be desired. When I arrived it was unclear if I should order or pick my own bagel. It turns out you pick your bagel and give it to them to toast and butter. Who knew? Food was fine although drink cooler was on the fritz. Unclear that the soda dispenser was for customer use (situated behind the counter so it was unclear).

Decent bagel sandwiches but the service is mediocre at best. Wait can be rather long- the lady behind the counter had to double check and confirm the sad news they have no burger patty to make bagel burgers. Also, she was rather impatient when I ordered the egg salad salad (right below their SALAD menu) she insisted that I must order a the egg salad on a bagel. Sigh. Poor employee training at work. The egg salad turned out very bland and disappointing. But the roast beef and Lox were delicious choices- would go back for these.

This place used to be THE place to go for bagels in Jax, peaking around 2000-2003. Unfortunately since then the owners have let it become a dilapidated dump. Most things are out of service, the place is not clean, and you'll be lucky to find a day where the AC is working (which is AWESOME when its 100 degrees out). The workers do the best they can considering they are usually understaffed and working in poor conditions. While the bagels ARE good because the recipe hasn't changed since opening, they are no longer good enough to justify putting up with all the cons of this place. Not sure who the owners are or why they are not addressing these blatant problems-surely they know there IS money to be made and a market for bagel lovers in Lakewood given their past success. In the off chance they're reading this post PLEASE BRING THIS PLACE BACK TO IT'S FORMER BAGELICIOUS GLORY DAYS!

Like other posters, I agree that service leaves little to be desired. I was not greeted when I walked in, other than "grab the bagel you want." Um, ok. I asked for it to be toasted and then asked what kind of cheese was available. The man behind the counter pointed at the sign behind him, not saying a word. I guess I didn't deserve a response? I ordered a bacon egg and cheese and it was just average. No flavor really. And it was not toasted as I had asked for :-( This place may be on its last legs, I saw an out of order sign on a cooler, the other one was only a quarter full, they had a sign asking for ones, and most of the lights inside were off. Oh also they will only take cards with a $5 minimum purchase. Not a good vibe coming from this place at all. Next time I will bypass for a location that actually wants my business.

The bagels are quite delicious - we live close by so we come here quite regularly. I'm partial to the three cheese spinach bagel and the everything bagel. They always serve up a good canadian bacon egg and cheddar sandwich. If you order butter on your bagel, they'll load it up so ask for light butter if you don't want it too heavy. I will admit, the service does leave much to be desired. I'm usually in and out quickly but it would be nice if they were more accommodating.

I stopped in today because I was early for an appointment. The place is nice and clean and the staff was mighty friendly. I went with a regular onion bagel with cream cheese. They do have lox and other things to shove into a bagel. Maybe I'm old school but I like a nice warm bagel with cream cheese just like I used to get in NYC when we visited.

I had the Denver sandwich with eggs, cheese, bell pepper and onion on an everything bagel..to start the bagel was so light and airy that it brought out the flavor of the seeds wonderfully, eggs were light and cooked firm, veggies were fresh...all in all a very good experience and a good selection for trying something out of your normal chains. Hurry tho only open till 230!!

The worst bagels I have ever eaten. Service is always sub par. Employees are rude. Eaten there at least 5 times over 5 years and the experience never improves.

I wasn't able to join my immediate family for a trip to visit my extended family in New York earlier this year and unfortunately bagel sandwiches don't travel well. Last night I got a huge craving for a great bagel sandwich (sometimes one from a chain breakfast place will do but I wanted the real thing). While running some errands I found the Healthy Bagel Company on the Yelp app and figured it was worth driving a few minutes out of my way to check it out. The place itself is actually a very nice size, lots of seating. They have a menu on the wall as you get into line and I didn't need to look very long to decide on a bacon, egg, and cheese. You grab your own bagel (kind of an odd set up to me) then tell them what you want at the counter. There was a large group in front of me so the whole process took longer I imagine it would if I'd walked in 10 minutes earlier. I asked about the mocha they had listed on their large menu (I figured I could save myself a trip to the Starbucks next door) and was told their espresso machine hasn't been working. Then I noticed the small sign at the register that said they have a $5 minimum to use a credit card. I absolutely cannot stand when businesses do that (not to mention, it's against the law). I understand that credit card fees are unpleasant but if you are not prepared to deal with them then maybe you should just not take cards. My bagel came to something like $4.60 so I grabbed an orange juice to meet their minimum. The orange juice cost almost as much as the sandwich (the total came to $7 and change) and I hadn't even wanted it. I don't disagree with other people that the service left something to be desired but it didn't really bother me too much in this case. It sort of added to the New York feeling. I took my sandwich to go and it was fantastic. Still warm when I got it home and super filling. The location isn't particularly convenient to me but I wouldn't hesitate to stop it again.

Bagel and cream cheese were both fresh and tasty. The staff greeted me and explained the menu and made the bagel in an efficient manner. The space is a little dark and seems like it could use some sprucing up, but that is the only criticism I have. I bought bagels for home and can't wait to share with my family!

Breakfast Mar 31 Very confused about this place. Holes in ceiling tiles, some tiles sagging. Lights around register out or maybe that area by register/bathroom is just dimly lite? One cooler was 2/3 empty, one cooler had out of order sign on it, display case by register was empty. They had Orange Juice, but no White Milk. Oh yeah, and signs everywhere saying "cash only". I saw 3 customers walk up to door, see signs and then turn away and go next door to Starbucks. As I was confused, I asked the counter person if this was a new place or maybe under new ownership. He said "no", and that he had been working there since it opened. Maybe this place has seen it's better days or the business model has changed? All the above aside, the Everything Bagel I ordered was stale and dry. As this was the only bagel shop I could find within a 5 mile radius of my hotel I went there. Next trip to Jacksonville I will find another place.

I like this place but the staff is not very friendly. Be aware for some hostility when asking for a modified menu item.

Gave The Healthy Bagel Company a try this afternoon. It was pretty darn good. The shop was actually bigger than I expected. I was half thinking a small hole in the wall mom n'pop shop, but there is actually a fairly good size area to seat yourself in. When you walk in, there are baskets and baskets of bagels for you to choose from. You pick your own bagel and hand it to the person behind the counter and tell him/her what you want on it. We opted for a hot pastrami with an everything bagel and lox with a parm n'herb bagel. The bagel sandwiches are pretty good sized and the pastrami and lox very satisfying. Top it with lettuce and tomatoes and a side of pickle, makes it a hearty meal. There are also "Yesterday's Bagels" for sale in pre-bagged bunch and different flavors of cream cheese you can choose from made with "lite cream cheese". I am not sure about the claim to be "healthy", but the taste is wonderful. I will be going back again very soon to try something different.

Best Bagel I've EVER HAD!!! and I've lived in NY and NJ...(oh and If you went to UVA... they're better than BODOs) especially if they're still fresh and hot... they melt in your mouth and you can taste that they're boiled and baked... just love it yes, service is a bit slow and the decor is dated... but thats because Starbucks moved in next door and started taking all of their customers... PLEASE SHOP LOCAL!! They deserve it! Also, Scrambled Eggs Benedict Bagel for breakfast is awesome... never seen that anywhere else

Uh-oh. I gave them another try. Again, my bagel didn't taste right. I tried sesame this time, and it had a freezerburned flavor. I went ahead and braved going behind the counter to get a fountain drink and I just felt like I was in the way of the workers. I didn't get a ''hello/how can we help you/thank you" either. The woman behind the counter just stared at me and seemed frustrated that I was even there. I really want to support local business, but not when they have bad service and bad food. I won't be back.

Used to come here all the time for breakfast when I was in high school and when in town, it's still the first place of think of for a great, quick breakfast stop! Love their very fresh, tasty bagels!

This place makes great bagels, but the facility has been on the decline lately. The AC doesn't work, and they are often short on coffee and other food. Take out bagels or give it a pass until they clean up their act.

OK - So at one time I was the "Mayor" of this place on four square. I have been many, many times. There are two consistent things about this place; good bagels and mediocre, at BEST, service. I went this afternoon with my daughter (Do not go shortly before closing). I was told three times "We close in five minutes", and that the toaster was broken, when in fact I could see that it had been turned off. This women had zero interest in helping me. Virtually every time I go the wait is almost insufferable, and the staff not necessarily rude but rather completley disinterested. Having said that the bagels are about as good as you will find in Jacksonville. My rec is to go in and bag yourself what you want, go next door to Winn Dixie and buy yourself your "fixin's" and go home and enjoy your bagles with your family.

I went for lunch on a Sunday and got the cranberry turkey sandwich and 3 bagels to go for later. The sandwich was AWESOME! I got the lite cream cheese and it was superb. The bagels are huge and are perfect toasted and still moist inside. I will definitely be making this a regular stop. The place was kind of hard to find, right next to starbucks. They also had smoothies that sounded pretty good.

I came here one morning when my husband was trying to change his flat tire in the Winn Dixie Parking Lot. The Healthy Bagel is located just across from the Winn Dixie and right next to Starbucks. I decided a bagel sounded like the perfect remedy for my grouchy [and sweaty] significant other, so I gave this place a shot. I was really pleased when I saw how many different options they have for bagels. There is a huge assortment of bagels to choose from and then beyond that they have an equally impressive assortment of shmears. If you are looking for something a little more involved, there are all kinds of breakfast bagel sandwiches to choose from, as well. I got an Asiago bagel with light plain cream cheese and a slice of tomato. It was delish! My husband got his standard plain bagel with butter... and he loved it! I didn't try the coffee [was too tempted by the neighboring Starschmucks], but they do sell coffee, as well. Definitely a delicious way to start the day! [PS They also serve lunch bagels, but I haven't tried them. Sure they are great, though, if breakfast is any indication!]

Who doesn't love a good bagel ... and these are GREAT bagels!!! I have no clue what makes them "healthy", but somehow I'm not usually thinking health food when I go for my cylindrical "holy" dough. My only guess is that that don't use preservatives (you can see the bagels being made), and all the cream cheeses are all available in light/lowfat variety. Back to the bagels ... they're HUGE and fresh, and have all the standard varieties plus usually a few unusual ones, like herb parmesan, jalapeno cheddar, 3-cheese spinach. I'm a traditionalist and usually stick with the "Everything". You choose your own out of the bins, and if you want it toasted, served with spread or made into a sandwich, hand it to the person behind the counter. They offer a big selection of bagel sandwiches (hot and cold), and also bagel burgers & chicken sandwiches ($5.95), and pizza bagels ($5.25). I've only been there for breakfast or bagels to go, but if the lox sandwich ($7.99 with cream cheese, tomato, onion, & capers and a good helping of salmon) is any indication, I'm sure all the sandwiches are good. The menu also includes salads, soups, and wraps, smoothies, and hot breakfast selections. There's plenty of indoor seating and the serve-yourself coffees (including a few flavors) are decent, but there's a Starbucks right next door for you coffee snobs. To know that they only sell fresh bagels, there's also a table for bags of "Yesterday's Bagels", which are usually still pretty fresh and are a good deal.

I used to love the company. First, they violate the visa/MC policy but charging you a minimum puchase. The last time I went in the female worker was literally eating a bagel sandwich right behind the counter where the other worker was making people's bagels. I was grossed out and left. She licked her finger too and said, "Hope you dont mind me eating." I dont mind her eating but not behind the counter in the food prep area. I also gave it one more shot and went in and asked the male worker, "Do you have blueberry bagels?" He replied, "No, we close in 15 mins, you should get here earlier." It was just a simple question I asked him. It's too bad that that the customer service is so bad here. Used to be a favorite stop and I would drive across town. No longer will I drive.

everyone gets their own Bagel, which means everyone can touch your bagel. while eatting ours we watched people come in and handle several bagels and put them back.Coffee was OK did have flavored cream. Staff was not cleaning tables after people left so many of the tables were dirty.
