First timer and Lover of ice cream!!!! When I arrived around 7:00pm, the place was packed out! (So I knew they were doing something right!) Got a cake batter dipped, vanilla waffle bowl! YUMMY... But too much cake batter! Hard to break through the hard shell and the waffle bowl! I'll do a cone next time! I like the soft serve style ice cream! Friendly staff, clean inside, and I'll definitely be back! Glad to have this spot in the neighborhood!

They have the best ice cream and shakes in town and their prices are low. I spent $4 on a large shake and it was plenty especially considering the price. The owners are great and are the staff is very friendly. Marble Slab and Coldstone are good but way over priced, Dreamette beats them both in price and is every bit as good if not better. The Strawberry shake is awesome so if you like strawberry get it, you won't regret it.

Great soft serve ice cream! Shakes, sundaes, cones, cups... just a straight up, excellent old fashioned soft serve ice cream shop.
(5)Kevin R.
This is as good as soft serve ice cream gets. There are basically four flavors: vanilla, chocolate, swirl and strawberry - combined with an infinite array of toppings, shells and serving choices. You can stare at the menu for an hour and not get all the different combinations ("Okay, today do I want a vanilla dipped in toasted coconut in a cup; or do I want a chocolate cone dipped in butterscotch?). The San Jose location is kind of odd - it looks like a converted office of some kind located in a strip mall. The decor is about as nondescript as it gets. But the ice cream does the talking - very loudly! I love the Dreamette!

Let's be clear from the get-go: this review is for The Dreamette in Mandarin at 9825 San Jose Blvd. This franchise of the original landmark in Murray Hill opened in late May in a section of town with a glut of glam, self-serve fro-yo and other ice cream walk-ups. But for us adults who are ice cream purists, rejoice! The Dreamette is really for us. The Dreamette's décor is refreshingly as spartan as a Soviet-era butcher shop. You're not there for the colorful mix-ins bar, angular seating or anything that might be remotely trendy. The laser focus here is on quality ice cream. Cones (dipped and naked), cups, sundaes, splits, shakes are the fare of the day, anchored by The Dreamette's signature self-serve chocolate and vanilla. You will find some old-world mix-in options for sundaes, including cookie dough, walnuts, Oreos, etc. But the great thing about this place is they do it all for you, BEHIND the counter, and you never have to guess what you're going to pay. None of those silly scales, the gummy bears that get rock-hard in ice cream (can you say Jujubees?), or selfish sugar czars who take their time sampling every flavor in the self-serve pit. So many things should be as simple as this. For my first time at this location, I snagged a small chocolate and vanilla swirl sundae with cookie dough chunks. The chunks were gleefully dispersed evenly throughout the cup, and the ice cream? If you're a soft-serve fan, there's none better in Jax. Another great feature of this location is that they do accept debit and credit cards, unlike the original location. You will pay a 50-cent upcharge for the privilege, but don't hesitate presenting the plastic. It takes a little patience to find The Dreamette in the middle of the strip shopping center, but perseverance pays off. They're open most days until 9 p.m. In Mandarin PM rush-hour traffic, it's a worthy pit stop (and hey, we all need a reason to hit the gym, right?).

Really good ice cream. Stopped in last weekend and got a small vanilla cone dipped in chocolate. And by small, they mean gigantic. It was a really tasty cone. They have a lot of options, including sundaes and milkshakes.

I was craving for some ice cream, and people have been talking about this place, so I thought why not. Walked in and was greeted immediately with a smile. I ordered a small vanilla cone dipped in toasted coconut. OOOHHHH MAAAAHHH GOOOSSHH! That first bite, it felt like I was in heaven. It was delicious!!! Price is very reasonable and you get more than what you pay. I am definitely coming here again for ice cream! :)

YUMMY, YUMMY, YUMMY!!! What else needs to be said? The family is the same as the ones who own and operate the Murray Hill location, which is a historical landmark for most Jacksonville natives, and many transplanted folks too. My family in Utah, when they visit, always want to go and get a chocolate cone dipped in toasted coconut; or vanilla/chocolate swirl cone dipped in strawberry. Like I said, YUMMY, YUMMY, YUMMY!! Dairy Queen, Cold Stone wish they were this good. They told us they are considering a new location near the airport ---- OH, PLEASE COME....WE WOULD WELCOME YOU EVERY WEEKEND!! I had my usual "the special sundae" as they call it; hot fudge over vanilla ice cream with walnuts --- simply the best dessert ever created!!! My son got his favorite cotton candy milk shake. This location is just a plain looking, not fancy place, but they are putting out 100% perfect ice cream treats. At 8:30 on Thursday, the line was out the door!! Word is definitely out about this place; have you been yet?

Oh sweet soft serve heaven! We're thrilled that they opened a location in Mandarin, as the original was quite a drive. The store is clean, employees are pleasant, and the ice cream is delectable. A chocolate cone dipped in coconut is one of the most dreamy things I've ever tasted. Takes me back to my childhood!
(5)Austin B.
Great ice cream! The shakes and dipped cones are delicious! I would highly recommend The Dreamette for anyone looking for great soft serve that makes you feel like you're a kid again! :-) The ice cream at this location tastes every bit as good as the original store! If you'd like a better idea of what to expect, check out the reviews of the original location on Post Street.

The ice cream is superb but the service is questionable. As we came into the shop in Mandarin, the young guy behind the counter was complaining about a co-worker. Had his mind been on his work he wouldn't have messed up two of our three orders. He didn't even offer to fix my husband's order, I simply refused to accept mine until it was right. For our first visit and this being so highly rated, I'm disappointed but only in the lack of common professionalism in the employee. It looks like our experience is an isolated incident, we'll be back to give them another shot at keeping our business.

A small little ice cream shop, but with delicious ice cream. My niece said this place was good and they give large portions. She said to get the kid size because that is plenty. I got the vanilla/chocolate swirl dipped in chocolate. I didn't realize that the "hard shell menu" were the different kinds of dips. Lol. I got a size small and my goodness it was pretty big. Good pricing as well. Would love to come back here. I do say they need some more decorations, other than that, it was sweet heaven.
(4)Susan H.
This is our go-to ice cream place! I usually get the hot fudge Sunday w/ "wet" walnuts, and my husband always gets a peanut butter milkshake w/ extra peanut butter. My other favorite is a 1/2 chocolate 1/2 vanilla swirl cone double dipped in the coconut dip. I always get a kids size cone bc the portions are HUGE. It seems like an old fashioned mom & pop shop. The young people behind the counter are always polite and we never have to wait very long, even when it's busy. The only real complaint I have is that they seem to nickel & dime for a lot of things (ice is free but the cup is 50 cents, wet walnuts cost an extra 90 cents, ect.) The decor could probably use some updating, it's pretty low key & dated. But honestly, I'm just there for the ice cream.
(4)Hugh P.
Local ice cream joint! Just found it in yelp. The concept is simple but works. I had the cake batter topping and my nephew had the cotton candy. Just nice for the Florida summer.
(4)Brandi F.
Had a small chocolate dipped cone and it was definitely bigger than I expected! I've been looking for a go to ice cream joint glad we found this place!
(4)Danette L.
Grew up with the original Dreamette on the Westside, so glad they expanded ! Best soft serve cones, sundaes, shakes & dipped cones anywhere!
(5)Amanda M.
Great soft serve ice cream!! And they have the chocolate Jimmies I like. (Sprinkles for those of you who have no idea what a Jimmie is. ) We drove out of our way to get to this place but we are sure happy we did. My boyfriend had his dipped in chocolate/peanut butter. He loved it though it was extremely messy. If we are ever in JAX again we will hit this place again.
(5)A S.
I always have to have my Dreamette fix! The ice cream is great not too sweet and you can really taste the flavor, there's not much to complain about here except I would feel a little better if the place was cleaner. The first impression should be a good one but it seems that their front door and windows are screaming for Windex. The front walk could use a pressure washing and a Lysol wipe would not hurt the front counter. I do understand children frequent the business and ice cream can be messy but that's part of having a business. The decors also a bit awkward and uninviting but I'll never turn down a Trip the Dreamette!!
(4)Jeremy K.
I like salted caramel. Some people don't understand this flavor. You actually want to taste the salt. Not too little, not so much that it's overwhelming. The milk shake I got on Saturday was PERFECT. It does feel a bit sterile in there and lacks character. Otherwise it would have been a 5.
(4)Matt B.
As a professional Ice Cream eater from VT, I didn't think I could ever find a quality ice cream place in Florida.....but I was wrong, and I have met my match with a large chocolate soft serve dipped in peanut butter/chocolate dip. Amazing. I looked like a little kid with ice cream dripping down my hands as I struggled to take this sucker down!
(5)Crystal G.
Growing up on the Westside of Jax, Dreamette was a staple in my childhood. One night after dinner at Outback which is in the same shopping center I saw the sign and could not resist! This location is definitely different than the one I grew up with but the lady behind the counter is always so friendly and the ice cream is amazing! I definitely think you should stop in if you have a hankering for some delicious ice cream!!
(5)Mrs. Marisol R.
Great concept! I have never experienced an ice cream shop like this... I went in expecting something on marble slabs, and was pleasantly surprised by the unique approach. Delicious creamy soft serve dipped in whatever your heart desires. A huge selection of coatings and toppings... you will be satisfied. It's bare bones inside... no booths, hardly and tables or chairs... not decorated at all... but I think no one really cares, cuz... ICE CREAM!
(4)Vanessa T.
Great place to stop in to get a sweet treat!! They have so many options, soft serve ice cream, dipped cones, frosties, banana split, shakes, tons of toppings too.... And the prices are great!!
(4)Kaneil Smith S.
Great spot if you like soft serve ice cream. They have lots of options. If soft serve is not your thing they have shakes, sundaes and splits. There are a ton of options to choose from (toppings, dip etc.). This place doesn't have the history of the Post st location but they certainly are on par with the quality of their sweet offerings. I'm not a huge fan of the dipped softserve but on a hot day this place definitely hits the spot.
(3)Chuck L.
This place is amazing!!! Soft serve at its finest .... Vanilla in a waffle cone !!!!! My favorite !!! The have chocolate, and any mixin you can think of ....old fashioned Ice cream what's not to love !!!!
(5)Elizabeth M.
Smooth, creamy, cold, soft and delicious! Just a few words to describe the ice cream here. This was my second time here and i have to say I don't know why I let so much time go by between my visits. Their prices are amazing the ice cream is amazing and their sizes are gigantic!!!!!! I bought the large banana sundae in a cup and they gave me the option of whatever ice cream I wanted but if you don't ask default will be vanilla which is just as good!!! The sundae was full of walnuts! I mean tons!!! The chocolate syrup and crushed pineapple was just the right amount. The strawberries are the kind that are in syrup and they are soft but that is what I was expecting so it was good enough for me! Overall, I would totally get it again and it was big enough to share. My mom and daughter got the kids cones which are pretty darn good sizes! My dads cake batter dipped strawberry cone was just as delicious. Now the strawberry icecream was really good but I'm not sure if it was all the sugar overload from the sundae but the strawberry flavor seemed very subtle. However I can totally overlook that because everything else was soo good and the lady behind the counter was super nice! This place just puts a smile on your face and seeing kids faces with super delight as they got their gigantically small and medium cones was priceless. Worth the trip!
(5)Daija P.
I feel like this place gets 5 stars based on the fact that me and my honey keep going here after hours and are STILL served with a smile! It's no lie that their ice cream and soft serve is great. All the different flavors and dip-able options are awesome. Tucked away in the strip mall, Dreamette's is always something I didn't know I wanted. Of course I'll be back :) A quick treat is always in store.
(5)Michael R.
Really good soft serve ice cream. Definitely will be back to try all the combinations.
(5)Gabie R.
What is it about this ice cream that tastes so amazing? I don't know what's in the formula but it tastes real without all the foamy fillers that many national chains seem to have in them. My kids love the shakes, I love the dipped cones and even those who are lactose intolerant can grab a frozen banana made right in the store. We love coming here on payday Fridays or Thirsty Thursdays!
(5)Jerry B.
The ice cream is amazingly good. And some how the prices are crazy cheap. They really need to invest in seating though. And the decorations are generic as it gets.
(4)Sam B.
Okay, I just love this place. I really do. It's a little hidden gem in Mandarin and it's probably the greatest place I've ever found (thanks to Yelp, of course). It isn't fancy or extremely beautiful on the inside, and you'd probably never look twice at it since it's sandwiched into a shopping center off of San Jose Blvd. But all of this is totally fine because the ice cream is JUST SO GOOD. First off, you walk in and see that they have so many options. It can be daunting, but come on, who likes to be limited in their desert choices? I've always gotten the kid's cone with chocolate soft-serve ice cream dipped in the cake batter dip. Yep, that's right, I just said CAKE BATTER DIP. The kid's cone is huge...I mean enough to satisfy a very demanding sweet tooth, and comes out to be $1.98 (!!!) with tax. Seriously? Less than two bucks for a huge dessert? And then you taste the ice cream. There's a reason this place is called The Dreamette. It's dreeeeamy and delicious. The dip makes a crunchy shell around the creamy soft serve. You have to eat it pretty quickly as it melts, but they give you a drip guard to hold around the cone and that really helps the process. So, my advice: kid's cone, chocolate soft-serve, cake batter or toasted coconut dip. I love the cake batter, but tonight I tried a bite of my mom's cone of chocolate soft-serve and the toasted coconut dip and was actually really jealous that I couldn't eat all of hers too. Rumor has it that you can get two different dips if you get the soft-serve in a bowl........yes, please. They also offer a long list of shakes such as Nutella and Thin Mint as well as classics like a banana split. If you're already a fan of the original Dreamette over on Post Street, trust that this location holds up to that delicious standard. All you other folks who haven't experienced the magic of this soft-serve yet, you need to get on it. ASAP.
(5)Jskilicious S.
Just ok. We had the butterscotch dipped cone and the toasted coconut dipped cone. The lady at the register was not very interested in helping us. When describing the sizes she used hand motions. No examples up front. The place is very plain with few decorations. As for ice cream, there were a nice variety of shell flavors, but overall it was just your typical soft serve. Kids would probably enjoy it most, and it's really reasonably priced.
(3)Marc P.
By far the best place to get ice cream and shakes in town! They have a great selection but you can also make your own. I've also managed to name my own since I get it all the time the "super chocolate shake" made with chocolate ice cream and hot fudge! Their original location is on the west side and this one is very convenient to Mandarin and Southside.
(5)Kim P.
Amazing dips for the soft serve! We tried cake batter, peanut butter and butterscotch and will be going back to try more!
(5)Steve G.
Look at all the dipping flavors... It's crazy! I had a "small" vanilla cone dipped in toasted caramel. The coating hardens, and it contains real toasted coconut. It was soooo good. The ice cream itself was delicious. A "small" cone is huge! So be aware! The menu of choices is a little daunting when you first walk in. There are so many options. I have only had the soft serve cone, so I cannot comment on anything else, but looking around at the people around me to see what they were all having, and everything look amazing... next time is a banana split!
(5)Tabitha B.
Ice cream is actually creamy. No gritty ice cream here. The price is great for what you get, the dipped ice cream was MASSIVE. My husband bought the large dipped cone and is have to say if only be able to eat 1/4 of it before being full. I got a medium cup and it's almost too much for me. It's a great local place, looks like a new startup. There's isn't too much seating, only 3 tables with a few chairs. Otherwise the ice cream was great! Pricing was good for the portions as well. Next time I visit in getting the small.
(4)Cassie C.
First and foremost, this is not ice cream. It is soft serve which is basically powdered mixes rehydrated. There is no option of favors other than vanilla and chocolate. Lady behind the counter without a name tag didn't offer a hello, let alone help. No examples of sizes, poorly decorated (windows even look dirty due to window clings), and limited variety of add ons. Our cones tasted stale to boot. A total waste of money. Dairy Queen and Wendy's still win the soft serve game. We gave it three tries since they opened - 3 strikes they're OUT!!
(1)Naomi B.
ERRRRRRRR-MUH-GERSHHHHHHHH......Soooooo good! As far as dipped cones go in Jax....this place can't be touched. Pick your poison, they've got it all, ranging from cones, sundaes, floats, slushes, and an extensive variety of shake flavors (yes, I'll be back for that Nutella shake). Now...I know all about the home location in the Riverside district (Post Street), and let me tell you...this location is just as good, if not better. Food: I knew I absolutely HAD to try the iconic dipped cone on my first visit to the Dreamette. But dang, between the ice cream flavors and the dips, it was so hard to choose! I mean, they have CAKE BATTER dip, Yeeps! Eventually I settled on the chocolate ice cream and toasted coconut dipped cone, and I was NOT disappointed in the least. I appreciate the drip guards that come on the cones, because without it, I would have been a complete MESS. YES, your cone will drip, Yeeps, but take an occasional sip out of the top of the guard, and you'll do just fine. The flakes of toasted coconut in the dip paired perfectly with the creaminess of the chocolatey ice cream, and I seriously couldn't have asked for a better combo. Atmosphere: Ok, so from what I've heard from my fellow Yeeps, the Post Street location is basically a shack with a window for ordering and a few benches. THIS location is a shop, complete with tables, chairs, and you order from the counter. They also accept credit cards here, while I believe the other location is cash only. It's very clean, and it's fun to watch them work their magic on the machines as your creation comes to life. Service: The lady (owner?) at the counter was very kind and patient, as I let her know I was a first-timer while scanning the menu board. She gave me the ins and outs of the ordering process, and talked about some of their most popular items and dipped cone combinations, and even some history on the Dreamette. VERY good service and great personality! The low down: This shop is tucked away in a shopping center in Mandarin (2-3 doors down from Dickey's BBQ) . They've been here about a year, and they only have about a third of the number of patrons as the Riverside location. With Mandarin having so many options for choice eats, I'm thinking that this Dreamette would be an IDEAL dessert spot to top off one's lunch or dinner. As a whole, it was the best ice cream experience that I've had in a very long time. Highly suggested for all of those in the area, SUPPORT your local eats, and a very deserving 5 stars for The Dreamette!
(5)Maya B.
I'm not a huge fan of soft serve, but I'll swerve to the side in order to eat a Dreamette cone. The cake batter dip is incredibly sweet and the chocolate/peanut butter rich and velvety. A word of caution to those unaware of the actual sizes offered: the kids size is closer to a small, and the sizes increase toward a monstrosity the larger you order them.
(5)
