Food is better than their beers, but at least they do have pretty good beers in the guest taps. Tried a New Belgium Wheat beer, which was quite good. Specials change daily. Some food is good some not as much. Essentially, you'd need to try a few things to see which ones are hits. Typically, they have a catch of the day, soup of the day, veggie of the day, etc. happy hour specials include their beers & mixed well drinks for $3.25, M-F 4-7 PM. What they absolutely have is a great venue with a great view, right on the river. Occasional live music both inside & outdoors. Across from MOSH. Come by boat or car. Good for large groups Serious beer drinkers will prefer the selection & choices in town for the Green Room, Five Brothers Brewery in Tinseltown, Aardwolf, World of Beer, several other better beer consuming establishments......

Easily the worst brewery in Jacksonville. I'm not sure how they are still in business. Must be from its great riverfront location and perhaps the work crowd? The establishment is your run-of-the-mill gimmicky microbrewery that makes 4-5 of their own beers just to say they do. Outdated interior...drab and sort of nautical themed inside a pecular large hexagon shape. Brewing equipment is old and unkept, the beer is served flat with no head formation, and every single beer on tap (I tried all of them) was unintentionally sour. This might have improved them for all I know. Food is overpriced and pretty poor with an outdated menu. If you have the unfortunate experience of needing to eat in downtown Jacksonville, go somewhere else.

We were treated here for dinner when some family from out of town was visiting. I think this is an excellent restaurant for that sort of thing. You have the view of the river and the the city, as well as a sunset if you time it right. The atmosphere in the restaurant is classy though you don't need to dress up for it. We split the calamari appetizer which had a unique flavor with the key limes and pickled peppers. I appreciated that it wasn't oily at all as is often the case with southern fried foods. I tried the bourbon barrel and pale ale beers. I like bourbon barrel beers even though I don't like bourbon on its own. RCBC's bourbon was mediocre, falling flat after the initial flavors or the bourbon. Our server described the pale ale as an IPA which we love, so my husband ordered that. We were disappointed by that. I'd skip their beers next time. My entree of shrimp and grits was great! They put smoked Gouda in the grits which I love so they were very flavorful. Even my husband who doesn't like grits enjoyed them because of how tasty they were. The fried green tomatoes and shrimp the grits were served with sat around he dish kinda plain and untouched. It was for the presentation but honestly they lacked flavor completely. My husband and father each had the ribeye. They liked the flavor though their meat was overlooked from they way they had requested. Our server was attentive and helpful throughout the dinner. We made reservations and were seated as soon as we arrived. We were 5 people and were quite squished seated at a 4 person table. We had enough arm room but not near enough room for all of out dishes and such. I think the food was good but not up to the standards of their pricing. I loved the atmosphere and setting.

My husband and I tried out the lunch buffet at River City Brewing Company on Sunday. Everything was so good!! My favorites were the Gouda Grits, Red Potatoes and Prime Rib! I could have eaten a whole plate of those grits alone! All of the staff were friendly and helpful as well! Very clean and nicely kept buffet with fresh food. Prices were reasonable too! We had such a good experience here, and will definitely have to come back!
Beer is okay. Food is good but not great. Definitely not fresh. Waiter was the best part of the meal.

I try not to review places after only one visit but I don't get to Jacksonville much, so first impressions will have to do this time I guess. Straight off, the view/location is spectacular; couldn't be better. We went at Christmas time and the sparkling lights and tasteful decorations made everything even prettier. We enjoyed a table by the huge windows overlooking the water, boats and downtown view. The service was very good. Attentive, relaxed, and friendly without being intrusive. The food was a little pricey, yes, but it was very good. Lots of fish and seafood offerings on the menu, but you could get a burger or chicken if you wanted. I had the Golden Beet Salad which I loved. B had Flounder and a side of the Smoked Gouda Grits, which were absolutely to die for if you are a cheese fanatic like I am.

Perhaps one of the worst service oriented restaurants in town based on this visit. Everyone in here acted as if they were baffled with any questions about the menu. Service was over one hour to get food, total mess of shrimp soup when minestrone was ordered and as a customer we had to ask wrong soups to be removed from our order. They didn't offer hopefully just a tough day there, although it was pretty empty and food came out cold. Biggest deal was that waitress allowed gumbo with shrimp served to an allergic customer today, but no manager came to apologize on life-threatening mixup on food. Waitress only said it was the kitchens fault. Hope they get this sorted out, cause I love the location.

Really good beer! The menu is fancy Bar food. View is great, staff was friendly and patient (we had 2 young children with us). However, they don't have changing stations in either bathroom. BUT they do have a cigarette machine

My Fiance and I on our weekly tour of things to do in Jax ( we're new here)..came across this place with the help of YELP. I had the Roast beef with mashed potatoes and a nice Bourbon porter Beer. I had cheesecake for dessert. The prices were nice and the service were good. While eating on the patio we watched the Sun set off the St. John's River.

This place could be great, the location and view is second to none, but every time I go there the service is terrible and the food isn't even close to the standards there prices command. My advice gets some good help or sell it, your driving it in the ground

I've been to this place several times. So I gave it more than its fair chance. We used to go here every week after our adult kickball games. I know adult kickball but if you haven't tried you should definitely play. So we would eat here after every game. No matter what we would order they would always mess up our orders. The food never seemed to be fresh and we were always disappointed. I always wanted to eat somewhere else but it was the sponsored bar where everyone went. So I tried different things hoping that other food would be better. I just always felt that the food portions could have been better and the food could be better quality for the price they charge. That being said. This place has a great view and a large patio that is wonderful for large groups.

Parking sucks... but once you get in you'll have a blast. Took in a late afternoon of beer and karaoke on the river. FABOLUS VIEW Made our way to the outdoor bar. Bartender was extremely friendly, but the drink was closer to gasoline. All liquor! Shrug - ok! The beer was okay, the company was great and the view couldn't be beaten. The karaoke was alright! LOL. After all the rain that we had been receiving it was refreshing to finally have a Saturday out. But the outdoor area remained very wet. Saw a few girls in heels almost take nose dives. A few guys not so smoothly played off a trip down some stairs. Those area of bright yellow paint might be more of a hazard. The food was great! When you don't know what to order just let your nose guide you. I seriously ordered by telling the waitress, I don't want to see a menu I just want something with coconut, fish, corn, and blue cheese. Just bring me something you'd recommend. Coconut shrimp, Blue chips, and fish tacos were all great. One friend had the ceviche. He said it was okay but doesn't see himself ordering it again. (Can't remember what everyone else ordered but there were several versions of a burger?) Although all my friends shared the chips, I wasn't willing to swap my tacos for the ceviche. Not the best fish taco I've had but one of the better fish tacos in Jax. The view is enough to get me back.

So disappointed. Food was meh at best. Went to Brew House/bar, asked if they could turn on Stanley Cup Playoffs at 730. Bartender reluctantly said yes. Took him 15 minutes to give me a menu, another 15 minutes to ask me if I wanted to order, seven minutes into the hockey game told a new patron he would change the channel (which changes all two TVs in the bar ) to another station. Never bothered to advise what specials were on but was happy hour, we ordered a drink at 7:02 PM and he told us it was too late for happy hour even though he never came around to us for 15 minutes. They only had 7 bar patrons.. Including me. No wonder he place was empty.

Used to go there for lunch all the time...close to the job, only thing open (night shift)...pricey but had to pay for convenience...the last straw was ordering a salad to go...took 45 minutes and I was the only patron. Only has 4 beers...The food is just plain horrible...everything about that place is old, tired and lazy...luckily the good thing about RCBC is that it's a short walk to Ruth's Chris...cheaper and delicious.

The food is OK, but you can't beat the location. A front view of the St. Johns River. I would recommend for any visitor to Jacksonville. Great place for a reception for a large group as it has private rooms and a huge patio. A good place to taste southern food.

We came here before a special event at the museum next door and were satisfied, but not blown away. Our food appeared to have sat for a minute or two before we got it (so it was a little north of lukewarm), but the taste was pretty good. Add to it that our server was attentive, informed, and very charismatic, and we were happy with our experience. I won't spend as much next time as I did here, but I would go back for lunch.

The view of the St. John's River is spectacular from the patio of The River City Brewing Company. Watching the sun set is awesome and beautiful. Now let me tell you about my meal. I ordered the Drunken Salmon, which was delicious! The salmon was fresh, tender and flaky. There was a nice size portion of fish served atop jasmine rice and mixed Chinese vegetables with a Teriyaki glaze drizzle. The drizzle helped kick the dish up a notch, had I known I would have them put a little bit more drizzle on it. I will order this dish again. For $25 you can order a "Prix Faire Meal" I think that's what they call it. It comes with a salad, entree and dessert. Well, that's dish was under the selected entrees for this special price. This was a great deal. A basket of assorted breads and butter was also included, I didn't eat any but hey it looked good. I did have a Blood Orange Cosmo, which was awesome. To end dinner I had a slice of key lime pie which was ok. Oh yeah don't forget to get a few pieces of key lime candies before you leave (they are at the entrance.) Service was ok I have no complaints.

Off day for me or the restaurant? So 9 of us ventured out today to one of the nicer venues in town. Boats, river, bridges and a few manatees to add to the ambiance. Sadly the food offerings were not as good as I recalled from previous brunches. I personally never eat the usual breakfast fare; watery scrambled eggs, over cooked bacon/sausage, what ever potato dish is being offered. I'm looking for the upgraded offerings. This can be a challenge on a buffet but I have seen it done. The only item that slightly stoked me was the salmon, with the normal sides capers, chopped eggs and onions with bagels and nice soft cream cheese. While my friends loaded up on bacon and eggs. I was in heaven with my salmon. Do not confuse this with lox just wonderful in a different way.. I will share some of the other items and comments. Chicken Marcella, tough not well seasoned cold, Tortellini with Mariana dry, made to order omelets delightful, Rice Pilaf bland, Grits creamy and cheesy but the needed to be stirred up top was all clumps. Carving station had a beautiful Roast Beef rare juicy and tender, Ham was not too inspired. Other than the moans of delight not much was discussed about deserts but let me assure everyone, each person sampled a minimum of 3. Cookies, bread pudding, key lime, chocolate, and cheese cake mousse. Fresh strawberries, marshmallows and a chocolate dipping fountain. and a selection of mixed fruits. I will personally attest to the bread pudding. One of the other treats 10.00$ bottomless Bloody Mary's or Mimosa, non alcoholic drinks are included in the all you can eat price. One thing that was not overlooked service, we had 3 staff who kept all the glasses full, table clean, silverware available. Remember to ask for the senior discount if anyone in your party qualifies. I don't think I will return here for brunch but many would disagree and that's why Yelpers yelp.

Just awful. Awesome building in an awesome spot, but the food. We got the firecracker shrimp which could best be described as bad Chinese food. For my main I got the seafood risotto, which included cold scallops and an overwhelming fake cheese taste. We also got a taster of beer, all of which was bland and watered down. I'd definitely give this one a miss

I didn't get to try the beer so that will have to wait for next time. I went with a group of people, early to avoid the crowds. Our server was pleasant and patient with our group. I ordered the burger, it was overcooked but still delicious. I had a side of the Gouda grits was also so delicious! However it took a long time for the food to arrive. I checked in with my yelp app, and told the server about my free dessert, my friend ordered the dessert and the server acknowledged it but after the meal was over and we left we realized we didn't get the free dessert. This is at this point my fault for not checking but still...that's what's keeping my review at 3 stars not 4, and the food taking forever when it wasn't that busy. I will definitely try this place again to try the beer ( and the blue cheese chips because they were awesome).

We initially came here for the views and keep coming back for the food. It is a good place to stop by on an afternoon when you are downtown. The beer is refreshing, atmosphere is relaxed and unique, and food has always been fresh and a pleasant surprise. If it's not too hot, I recommend sitting on the riverfront patio.
Nope... Poor menu and broken patio furniture. Tons of potential and probably a great a beer on your way somewhere else

Came here as a large group as part of school trip, food and service were both OK. They did forget my order and I had to wait for them to make another one. I ended up getting a grilled Mahi sandwich and I have definitely had better Mahi at lesser restaurants. Although it wasn't super terrible I was so hungry, after waiting, that I "enjoyed" the meal. The manager was very apologetic and promised to make it up in someway.... Did not deliver, unless you count a few extra fries as making it up. Overall it was a pretty meh experience. The attempt to make it up to me was the saving grace that saved this review from being one star. Also the fact that our group of 40+ arrived a 1/2 hour before closing time and it was understandable that service may have had some hiccups.

We stopped here for a quick lunch and a beer. I think I'd skip this place next time if it weren't for the blue cheese nachos. Those are delicious! I just wish there was more of it! The rest of the food was just ok and the beers were just ok too. We had great service and enjoyed sitting along the marina so the ambience made up for the just-ok everything.

Okay, so I didn't see anything on the menu that was super inspiring, but the after dinner mints are key lime flavored, the happy hour craft beers are $2.50, they do brunches, they have an awesome interior with views over the St Johns, a wooden sprial staircase that rocks, super cool secret rooms upstairs with terrific furnishings, a separate bar area, and a nice big patio. Once they update their menu I will give them six stars! Yeah six!!! Deal with it.

I came here at noon on a Wednesday, before a visit to MOSH. I was surprised and pleased to discover the restaurant has a good-sized parking lot. I parked with no trouble and then moved my car to the MOSH side of the lot after lunch. Seating in the restaurant is tiered, so everyone benefits from the good view. Service was fast and friendly, but the food was mediocre. I ordered fish & chips. The fish was OK, but the fries were damp and tastless. For a downtown restaurant, the lunch prices are reasonable.

The whole bar area needs a total gut job! It smells like vomit sitting at the bar! They need to call bar rescue. Stop living on the fact that you're on the river!

Terrible. Three of us went there. Nobody welcomed us or seated us right away. It was slow. Server was right front of us. We went up to her and asked for a table. We were told to find a table. The one table available had used plates and drinks from previous guests. We sat ourselves down and put those plates and drinks aside. 30 minutes later we were still waiting for someone to get our drinks order. We had to flag server to come and take our order. Another 30 minutes passed before we finally got our drinks. We went ahead and ordered once we got our drinks. I ordered wings. 30-40 minutes later the food came. My wings were not straight-out-of-stove hot. They seem to have been sitting around. And they seemed to be premade or frozen; not made fresh. Terrible service. Will never go back.

I have been coming to this restaurant for 7 years now and each time I feel like it gets a little bit worse. It went from every meal I was absolutely amazed to everyone in my party felt their food was just average. For the price there are too many great restaurants that are much better than the food we received.

I went here when I first moved to Jax and it was a very poor experience. The service was bad, the food was bland, and the beer was average. We were some of the only ones in there on a Friday night, so the service was inexcusable. Maybe they've changed, this was back in the summer of 2012. I've only heard bad things since.

Sunday Brunch is supposed to be easy on both the restaurant and the customers, but the River City Brewing Company seemed to have lost its way, despite having a stunning water side view. After we were seated near the windows, we walked through the main line of sterno-warmed chafing dishes with overly heavy lids. I picked a sample of each and moved on to the live serving stations of the prime rib and the omelets. I quickly discovered what looked like a mix of culinary corners had been cut to fit this particular meal. For example, the scrambled eggs lacked any real egg flavor. I suspected a powder mix had been used and various fillers had been added. Not good. To me, creating flavor does not mean adding more salt or seasoning if one has very little to work with or it had been saved from the night before and held until used. As I tasted more examples of prepared foods that had been frozen or possibly out- sourced to the lowest bidder, I looked for the winners in the whole service, which were predictably the prime rib and omelette services because they were done live. If I was the restaurant consultant hired to propose revisions and execute the badly needed details this venue is crying for, I would start with the menu, find my way into the kitchen, review the purchasing standards, and find my way into the bar with its faux brewery. While this venue needs a lot of work, it has some good points that need to be used more effectively.

I've been here twice now and the food has been OK but not outstanding. The first time I had a couple different beers that were pretty good, but this last time I ordered an IPA that was really bad or was something else. When I told the waiter about it, they didn't try to figure out what was wrong but offered to get another one. When the manager came around later and I told him, he said they use the same yeast. Service was very slow (15 minutes to get dessert because the "dessert chef was backed up"?). Next time I'll go down the street to Aardwolf for a beer. If you can't make a decent IPA you shouldn't call yourself a brewing company.

I had the bbq ribs with mac-n-cheese and ham cooked greens. I enjoyed the ribs completely. The greens are the best I've had. And I couldn't keep my wife out of my mac-n-cheese. She had the fish tacos, grilled not blackened. She said they were very good also. Our server, Tina was top notch. Now a little bit about me. I've been a competition (winning) bbq cook and kcbs judge. I know bbq. I don't know if the ribs were championship quality, but they were some of the best I've had. I would definitely come back here again when I don't feel like cooking.

I have eaten wings from Buffalo New York to Japan. The wings here were cold and soggy. Leading me to believe they were microwaved. These wings were the worst wings I have ever eaten. It's not hard to screw up wings and they did. The service is terrible as well

Traveled down from Savannah yesterday, and was excited to surprise my husband with lunch at a brewery. We love craft beer, and always try and check out local beers. I looked online, and this was the only brewery I found that also served food. We have experienced MANY restaurant breweries, and have always been pleased. That being said, our first impression from the tired, outdated exterior, was RUN! We decided to try it anyways (I need to listen to my instincts more often!). When we were seated in the 1970's decorated restaurant, we grabbed the drink menu...NO LISTING OF THEIR BEERS! We knew we were in trouble. The only good thing about the restaurant was our waitress. She was prompt, polite, and attentive. She explained the 4 beers. I chose the amber and my husband chose the pale ale. Pale ale was tasteless, and amber wasn't the greatest either. Not a great start for a "brewery." For lunch, we started with the blue cheese kettle chips. Most people would complain about them being burned, but for some reason burned chips taste yummy to me (husband found enough chips that weren't burned to eat). For lunch, husband had shrimp po'boy (6 small shrimp, and a HUGE hoagie roll). I had the grilled Mahi sandwich (overcooked fillet that clearly had been a frozen package...I've seen those types in a plastic freezer bag at the grocery store). Come on! You're by the beach! My husband laughed at my horrible choice, and I admit I should have known better. We both got fries, and we both thought they tasted funny. Good thing I like fries COVERED in ketchup! I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone! Definitely don't go looking for good beer!

The blackened salmon, Gouda grits and bread pudding are outstanding! The bottomless Mimosas or Bloody Mary's are also a great deal. The buffet has enough variety to please every palate, from fresh fruit to prime rib you will find something to love here. The waitstaff is extremely friendly and very helpful. I will definitely be back for a weekend brunch.

I was a tourist for a day, trying to kill time before a baseball game. Here's the process which ended up with me going to River City Brewing: - How the hell can I kill a few hours? - What is there to do in Jacksonville which doesn't require me to drive out to the beach or St. Augustine? - There are a lot of parks and scenic paths on the river front, I should go be active and go for a walk and take some pictures. - But where can I park, oh wait here's a place - PARKING RESERVED FOR RIVER CITY BREWING COMPANY ONLY - Hmm, maybe if I go inside and have a beer or two, I can justify parking here. That's really all it took to get me to go into River City Brewing. And I guess I was lucky in my timing, because the bar had just opened, preventing me from ruining my plan to sit and chill and kill time for a little bit. So, I ended up at the bar at like 2 pm on a Saturday afternoon looking like an alcoholic or something. To be honest, I didn't order anything to eat, so I can't really review the food, but in terms of an experience, I was pleased. I'm all anti-social introvert and such, so having pretty much the entire bar empty while I could relax, and try some of their house beers was all I could have really asked for at the time I was there. The bartender was easy on the eyes and pleasant to chat with sporadically, and was informative about their beers. I'm no beer connoisseur by any stretch of the imagination, but I liked what I tried. The red definitely tasted as if it had a German influence to it, and the seasonal wheat was light and more refreshing. Neither beer felt heavy, which I like. And at $3.25 a pint, they're not going to break your wallet either. As a whole, the place is clean and slightly on the sophisticated appearance. But then you see people wandering in wearing cargo shorts and sweat-stained polos, and people like me don't worry any longer. If I were local, this is the kind of place I'd love to spend evenings, sitting outside on the river front having too many house beers before someone else has to drive me home.

This is my 2nd year in a row I have celebrated my Birthday at River City. The SERVICE SUCKS! We, both times, waited almost 30 minuets before anyone came to the table. The drinks weren't taken by server, I observed the ONLY WORKING server running inside and outside to all 4 of the tables seated except ours. Once we ordered things went a bit smoother but don't ask for anything like extra sauce for the crab cake bites, they were pretty good, because you won't get it. The server was friendly. The Seafood Risotto was good, but not hot. The Millionaire Mojito was great!

We sat outdoors - beautiful day great view! Once seated - we waited at least 15 min before anyone came to the table. That should of been our clue as to how the lunch was going to go. My husband ordered the Mayport Fish sandwich - that came out as expected and was very good. I asked waiter about the 12.95 goat cheese, candied walnut, strawberry, prosciutto & beet salad w house balsamic dressing and he raved over it. When brought to the table it looked like the garden salad - very minimal - definitely not worth 12.95' blue cheese dressing was brought bs the house balsamic listed on the menu l, no prosciutto was on salad. When we asked the waiter - he agreed it was in correct her left the salad in front of me and took quiet a while to first her prosciutto and then the correct dressing. Never was thier any offer to comp the salad etcetc. - we will not return here because of the service and food but had the waiter or staff acknowledged the problem we would have much grace and return for another meal. Moral of the story: don't order the goat cheese, beer, prosciutto? (If it appears), beers Salad!! $12.95 NOT worth it !!!

Disappointed. Went here expecting a nice upscale dining experience. Than we sat next to the customer dressed in tee shirt and wearing a baseball cab. My fliet was very good, but the stuffed flounder was, well, floundering. Mashed potatoes were very dry. The restaurant has greatly reduced their wine list, but the wine we selected was definitely on the verge of being moldly. Service was OK.

Great location. This place is perfectly placed right on the water with a beautiful view. Unfortunately, that's the only thing this restaurant/brewing company has going for it. For a brewing company, it has a very small selection of beers, which aren't even advertised at the table. Though, this might have been because our server accused everyone at our table for having fake identification cards, based solely on the fact that none of our driver's licenses said we were from Florida. Regardless of the fact that none of us are Floridians, our ages range from 23-25 years. The food itself was bland and flavorless, or mediocre at best. The shrimp and grits with fried green tomatoes and corn came out as a colorless goop that all mushed together with every ingredient tasting the same. Not entirely sure how you ruin corn, or tomatoes, but it's possible. The cheesecake tasted like cheesecake, which was a pleasant surprise after suffering through dinner.

Extremely poor service. Multiple servers and a manager stood around while our waitress struggled to serve us, and we were the only large table in the restaurant. We went to the bar to order waters, and after an hour without being checked on I had to raise my hand then shout to get any attention. Overall the meal took 3 hours, and two people's food was cold. Very disappointing. When we complained about the service to the manger she seemed disinterested. This is my first yelp review, but the service was so bad I felt compelled to document it.

This place is awful!!!! The wings tasted like they came out of the microwave. The place is empty and it took 40 minutes for our order to come out. Asked for no Bleu cheese on the salad and guess what..... Came with Bleu cheese. Service and food are some of the worst I've ever seen. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!

Where do I start? First and foremost, the food was PHENOMINAL. That's literally the only good thing about this review. I have not had worse service in a really long time. I'll lay it out: 1. We make an 8:00 reservation and mentioned we'd like to sit outside (we were in town from Atlanta and wanted to sit on the water). 2. We get there at around 10 till and wait in the bar for about 20 minutes for our outside table. Not too shabby. Although it took the bartender about 10 minutes to acknowledge us and about 15 to take our drink order. 3. We close out at the bar and get seated. The server saw that we had been to the bar (we had a beer flight) and asked "where'd you get that?" Like we weren't supposed to bring drinks from the bar to the table. Didn't bother to see if we needed anything else to drink and that was almost the last we saw of him. 4. It took almost 40 minutes for the calamari appetizer to come out and it was a busboy that delivered it. We still hadn't received silverware, napkins or plates. And still no sign of our server to order drinks or refill water. 5. The appetizer plate stayed there until we finished dinner and a (second) 30 minutes after the appetizer came, the food came. Mostly. My fish sandwich was missing things I had ordered on it, one of the dishes had the wrong side and the other was missing a side completely. Still no server, just a busboy that brought our food out. My party wanted condiments, a drink, etc. but no luck, as we still never saw the server. We looked over to the party to our left who seemed to be having the same problem. 6. We decided the lack of service was enough to just leave so we FINALLY flagged our server down, asked for at least a water refill, the checks and boxes. He came back with checks. After paying and waiting for him to return, the manager came by with a water pitcher asking if we wanted water. We explained to her the abysmal/nonexistent service and she basically just apologized. Long story short....food (two fresh catch (wahu) specials with lump crab meat, the mahi mahi sandwich and mac n cheese) was AMAZING. Service was terrible enough to never go back. Ever.

Great beer chicken, blackened salmon, Gouda grits and the bread pudding is best ever tasted!! Shrimp was not particularly flavorful not was the crab legs or potatoes but everything else was excellent!!

Came here due to good mentions in newspapers and tourist guides and was disappointed. The Belgian Abbey Ale had an off note - not the nice sour of brettanomyeces, more like a spoiled component. They wouldn't seat us for food because the kitchen "crashed" due to a surge in business (it was the night of the bowl game).

Meh. We were really hoping this place would be a hopping waterfront restaurant, but found it to be quite empty and rather dated in decor. This place has so much potential that it's really sad that such good property is being wasted! This place brands itself as a brew house, but it appeared to be nothing more than an overpriced, wannabe pretentious fine dining place that has been reduced to relying on operating mostly as a catering hall. Or venue for large parties. The food was mediocre and overpriced, but the service was decent. The decor was severely dated and needs an overhaul. I had the chicken Marsala which wasn't terrible, but the sauce was goopy and the chicken was dry. My husband had the braised short ribs. Again goopy and dry. You're on the water with prime real estate! Open up the back patio for people to sit outside and enjoy the water. Cover the bar area if it's raining. Re-think the menu and offer up an array of nicely done sandwiches and burgers. Pasta dishes, too. More fresh fish dishes that aren't overly pretentious. Offer more craft made beers! Lastly, more appetizers for those people that want to come in, sit at the bar with a glass of wine and snack on something light. Maybe we were there on a bad night? Downtown Jax seems to be pretty dead on the weekends. I have a feeling this place is struggling to figure itself out. A major rebrand is needed. Lots of potential here, but poor execution.

Happy hour. Stopped here for a few rounds with the gf, and the drinks were cheap. Bartender was serviceable, and it was not nearly as busy as I would have imagined a place with cheap drinks and good service on the water would be. Also, Blue cheese chips. Yum, yum, yum. The fish tank up front is fun to look at if it happens to be busy and you have to wait. Young professionals need to take over a spot like this! Lots of older folks...

Excellent food, ambience, view and service! We ended up at RCB due to no available resos at another spot. It was our lucky day! We'd eaten at RCB sometime ago, and thought we'd never go back! Something, maybe everything, has changed in the way of management, chef's, etc. Everyone's meal was perfectly prepared, from the appetizers to the salads to the entrees; and we're a tough crowd to please as we are all ex-restaurant owners! The flounder was fresh and so tasty, and we now have a new place to go for amazing Florida Lobster Tail prepared so light and fluffy, it honestly melts in your mouth! Only suggestion, PLEASE use real butter, still good, but Florida Lobster DERSERVES real clarified butter. Our server was nicely dressed (clean pressed shirt, pants, etc) and super sweet! We were a little loud, because we're a ton-o-fun, and the staff 'put up' with us and seemed to enjoy our frivolity! If you want exceptional food at fair prices, a lovely and relaxed atmosphere with a killer view, revisit River City Brewing, it will become one of your go-to spots for certain!

Overrated! Went a few years back and wasn't impressed. Revisited recently and it hadn't changed. Still not seeing the quality you are paying for. We had a raw chicken served to many people in our party and mgmt knew it was raw but didn't tell anyone. That's unacceptable! Great venue though for a party upstairs. Attentive and friendly wait staff.

The beer was very disappointing. 5 of their own on tap, none of which were spectacular. 5-6 of the usuals as well. Nice location. Good prices. Good service.

5 stars- view. 3.5 stars- food on any given day other than Sun. 4.5 stars- Sunday breakfast/brunch buffet/ 5 stars for service during brunch. This place has a spectacular view right by the river, BUT in my opinion it is only worth coming here for a drink or 2 in the evening with your significant other/friends and an appetizer or simple entree if you like a quiet, un-crowded place. It is usually not very busy. *** I do enjoy Sunday's brunch buffet! However, I would only come every once in a while since it is $25/person. They have a wide variety of food to choose from though and its just nice to enjoy the view, sit outside if you want to or not and celebrate/special occasion (if you have you have something to celebrate for). *I wasn't amazed by the breakfast station, but the salads, entrees, pastas, pastries and desserts were great! (thats just my preference though) Menu & website below. rivercitybrew.com/sunday… Sunday Brunch Menu 10:30am - 2:30pm CRAB LEGS CARVING STATION Hand Carved Roast (varies weekly) SEAFOOD STATION Chilled Shrimp Smoked Salmon with Bagels and Cream Cheese BREAKFAST STATION Bacon & Sausage, Home Fries, Grits & Scrambled Eggs with Cheese Made to Order Omelettes and Belgian Waffles Muffins & Pastries Assorted Breads SALAD STATION Assorted Specialty Salads Garden Greens Marinated Mushroom Salad Fruits & Berries Assorted Breads ENTREES Beef , Seafood, Chicken ,Pasta Station Roasted Potatoes, Vegetables of the Day DESSERT STATION Fabulous Assorted Deserts

Amazing. It feels like it would have been super cool in the 1980s (see: payphone bank near restrooms) Food is excellent, maybe a tad pricey, but I suppose you're paying for the view you get. Beer selection is amazing.

I've been here several times and I typically have a good experience here. The last time I came here was in Jan 2012 before watching Wicked at the TU. We ordered the Ahi 3 ways appetizer, which was quite delish!!! :) The wine menu was nice. I can't remember what I picked, but I'm pretty sure I ordered a Pinot Noir. Our server came by sooo many times yet still messed up my dinner order. I got the special fresh catch of the day, which was a red drum. It was great, but the chef placed the lump crab on top of the fish, which I specifically told the server not to add. That was an unnecessary cost both in $ and calories -- neither which I incurred LOL. My bf had the fried lobster, which I think wasn't that great because lobster is a delicate creature that should NOT be fried. Ah well, this experience won't stop me from coming back. I still like the food and drinks :)

This place is big and right on the waterfront which is awesome, but for a BREWERY to literally have only 5 brews on tap is crazy and they weren't even good (we tried 2 of them). The food entrees were delicious, but the waiter was flighty (forgot our soup, had to ask twice for our salad and then he charged us twice and gave us the check for the table next to us). That being said, they were very sweet and offered champagne and dessert for our anniversary. Not a huge fan. Might come back for happy hour and to sit near the water, but they could really use a facelift and some better beers on tap....IPAs!!!

This review is for the Brewhouse Lounge. Great bartenders. They're friendly and learn your names and what you like to drink quickly. Despite it getting busy certain nights I'm never standing around with an empty glass. They have good happy hour drink specials until 7PM. If you can get in before 6PM they have great specials on appetizers also. Recommended food: The calamari (key lime banana pepper version) is the best I have ever had. It's not chewy, you can cut it easily with your fork, and the banana peppers give it a great bite. - The fish tacos have a great corn salsa on top, and there's two of them on the plate so you can easily share with a friend if you only want a snack. - The St. Louis style ribs and the fish and chips are both solid choices as well. Most of the food options on the bar menu are around the $10 range. River City makes several beers and they've very recently added domestic and craft beers on tap. This is a nice place to meet up after work for a bite and a drink. The view of the river and downtown is beautiful and sometimes there's dolphins playing between the docked boats.

With the name of "River City Brewing Company" one would think you could do no wrong. Wrong. The beer - it was modestly priced, especially with happy hour specials giving an extra $1 off (still wondering when NC will get on board with this happy hour thing). That's the only good thing I can say about it. Maybe I've become more of a beer snob than I realize or would care to admit to, but it just wasn't good beer. I've had (and made) much better homebrew. It was just boring. The Jackson Pale tasted like the Red Rooster, and the Riptide Porter was really only different in color And no IPA? That's the future of America folks! The food - I ordered the shrimp and grits. Apparently there were some fried green tomatoes there too, but since I don't like them to begin with then it's not fair to criticize these. Their S&G was pretty good. The grits were creamy and flavorful, the shrimp was even better. Apparently there was some bacon in the dish, but somehow I missed that. Must not have been very memorable bacon. The service - Service was a little bit slow, but we didn't mind. The weather and the scenery were nice enough to offset this. Overall RCBC was decent - good food and a nice outside deck overlooking the river. However I have come to expect much more from a "brewing company" with respect to craft brews.

It started by being sat 30 mins late. Then it really fell apart wine order took 25 mins to inform us they were out then all drink orders were wrong. Then the meal ... Orders were wrong one never did come right. The bill came and they gave us the wrong one. Horrible experience.

So far I've had the gumbo, the ribs, & the craft beer. Generous portions in each entree make a filing but delicious meal. I've only been to the bar and the outdoor patio. The patio is covered and a fantastic place to enjoy the waterfront and the great food.

This place is cool, but could be SO MUCH cooler! Breweries are so in right now and this place is kind of a let down! I've been 3 or 4 times now and each time I ask to see their brewing process but no one is ever around the show me! The calamari appetizer is literally, incredible. I HIGHLY recommend it. The dining experience is very stuffy and formal! It would be so much fun if this place would loosen up a little! It's a beautiful building with banquet rooms above.

Had a much better meal at Juniors! yeah the view and atmosphere here is much better, but the food in a word sucks. pretentious food not very well prepared. My wife had the beet salad as an entree and was expecting a salad of beets and goat cheese. Wrong! a bowl of greens with a slice of beet and a piece of goat cheese the size of pencil eraser. But the pecans were good! I had the shrimp and grits and it was unremarkable, especially since the shrimp were not fresh! they had that fishy taste of shrimp just a little too old to serve. Even their own beers were not very good. Too bad as we like micro brews and the style of food frequently found there. Save your money and go somewhere else. If you want superb fresh seafood, Juniors on Hwy 17 at Hecksher rd is the best choice in the area.

We came here around 9pm on a Friday night, part of our party ordered food and part just had a couple of beers. When we got there, our friends had already ordered and, although I don't like seafood, their appetizers looked really good and everyone had good things to say about them. We had another friend join us about a half hour later and our server told him the kitchen was closing. He had to sweet talk her a little bit but she put an order in for him. I found it really weird that this places closes down so early on a Friday, but by 10pm there were only two tables left in the entire bar area. I guess it is because it isn't in a residential area but it seems like such an awesome spot to sit outside and drink a beer in the summer. We'll have to come back when it is warmer outside.

The last time I had Sunday brunch 4 years ago the food was great, the place was clean and the staff were professional. Fast forward to today 10-5-14. Food was crap, the staff looked like hoodlums and even the omelet cook was terrible. Honestly, I've never been to a place that's gone down hill like this. Smelled like mold too! $55.00 for 2 people with no alcohol. Don't waste your money!

Shockingly disappointed with my visit here. After reading the reviews, thought we were in for a real treat. Location and view are amazing, even love the construction and ambiance of the restaurant. But the food, drink and service.... what happened? For something called a "Brewing Company" not to have any actual microbrews or non-domestics is a bit appalling. Even the website said they would. Apparently not... Ordered house fare off the menu which was butchered by the server who decided not to write anything down. Completely forgot to enter several appetizers and the entrees took over 45 minutes to arrive. Wasnt even busy either. The quality of the meal left much to be desired, even if you consider this a bar or brewpub. The topper was the low quality of the seafood... in Jacksonville, FLORIDA. Wont be back unless something seriously changes.

I left a review several years ago, but thought I would update, now that I have been for dinner. Interesting that other people had problems with the service - our service was slow, but we were there to enjoy a slow evening with the company of some friends, so the pace was fine. The food, like in my last review, is not *amazing* for the price, but it is decent, and as a Jacksonville native, the view is spectacular. Waiting for the rest of our party, I asked about how much of the seafood was locally caught, and the staff member had the chef come out and answer my question. Apparently only the fresh catch is - as a sustainable, locally-sourced kind of consumer, I am often surprised at how many restaurants don't source seafood from Mayport! Oh well. He was honest and helpful, which I sincerely appreciate. I got the catch - Mahi, with a crab topping - and it was really good. Someone in my party got the paella which was sopping with butter - I love butter, but it didn't seem particularly authentic. He seemed to enjoy it well enough though, I think. There was a vegetarian in our party, and because they did not have anything vegetarian on the menu, the server had the chef come out and offer to make her up something. I tried a bite and enjoyed it, and I believe my friend did, as well. The attention to customer satisfaction was notable, with the chef coming out to talk with us twice. The server seemed busy, but he was conscientious and friendly, and our needs were always met promptly. I'll be back.

River City Brewing Company is arguably one of the most scenic and high-class dining atmospheres in Duval County. When I think about the very limited menu options and the high price for those few options, I really should be rating this place a two-star. However, I'm completely admitting that seafood places will always play favorably to me because that's hands down my favorite type of food. Often times I order the lobster po' boy, which actually falls apart in my hand, but I like the lobster meat anyway. Another reason why River City grabbed the third star is because of its beautiful outdoor dining area. There is nothing like eating seafood as you look out on a beautiful large body of water and River City is lucky enough to have the St. Johns River as its backyard. I've been to River City more times than I should be admitting and every time I go, the breeze on the outdoor patio is divine. If River City were to double its menu items and make most of that expansion seafood-based, it could have received four stars. However, parking is a bother and you're paying for unnecessary fanciness.

Fantastic view! We went here before FL-GA, and then took the river taxi. I ordered the beet salad and it was pretty bad. Way too big-- just a lot of tasteless greens -- and drowning in dressing. BUT quite possibly the best fish and chips I've had outside of the UK. And, I don't know if onion rings are even on the menu, but someone in our party asked for them and the chef obliged! They were VERY fresh and delicious. Would def go back here just for fish and chips!

Yum!! Okay - maybe you want more info than that ;) The restaurant is really nice looking, the service friendly and prompt, the food amazing and not the small portions I thought I'd get. I'm not a beer fan, but my husband tried one of the house brews and loved it. We both cleared our plates of dinner and loved every bite - making it impossible to fit any of the delicious looking desserts. I'm glad we randomly picked this location for dinner and would highly recommend it if you're in the area. If you can, try and get a seat near the window so that you can enjoy the view of the river while eating your delicious dinner.

Plenty of open tables! Very POOR service (3-29-13). Party of twelve - Myself and two other co-workers get to the restaurant early to get a table. Twenty minutes go by with no service and we were only eight feet from the bar. The waitresses just kept passing us by. An old friend comes in with his two kids and gets table service in six SECONDS. Five minutes later a couple sets two tables behind us and received service after about eight seconds, but with TWO waitresses. After 25 minute to get a drink. The three of us decided to just get a beer and leave before the rest of out party shows up. Unfortunately the rest of our party showed up and we decided to stay just to be in their company. Myself and the two ladies that came with me vowed to never come back in his place again. (River City Brewing Company). ...oh yeah the crab cakes were awesome! Service SUCKS!

Excellent riverfront outdoor dining with average food. This is not the kind of place you go for sensational food, its the al fresco seating by the water with seagulls overhead and great views of Jacksonville's numerous bridges, that draws you here (can'tfigure out why anyone would go here and sit indoors.) The homemade chips with blue cheese sauce make a great appetizers and their brew selections are very good. The main courses, short ribs and salmon, were proposed as the best of the house. We each ordered one and were surprised to find them very average. Both meals were decent, but without flavor or spice. We decided this might be a good place for people who prefer blander flavor or great for those who want to enjoy a cocktail/beer and lighter dining by the river and are not as concerned about excellent dining. I do want to stress the food was fine - not poor, just not outstanding. The service on the other hand was excellent. I will return just to enjoy the riverfront atmosphere, go more casual on the food and savor a beer. Great place for a business traveler who wants a little outside time to relax after a day of indoor, skyscraper appointments!

I stumbled across this restaurant by doing an online search for a place to stop on my way to the airport. The staff couldn't have been friendlier, the mahi-mahi catch of the day was amazing and it's a great location. Plenty of parking which is free. The bar manager was very nice and welcoming. Visit!

This place is great, they have the best view on the river with little to no foot traffic in sight. Great for lunch, dinner, sunday brunch, and beer. Jackson pale ale is what i usually have, it's a great starter pale ale as it's not too hoppy. Lunch is awesome, the prices are much cheaper than the dinner menu, but still portioned just right. My wife had a tuna steak that was delicious and not dry or overcooked at all, and I had a half and half po boy that was just as good. For lunch it can't be beat. Dinner is a little pricier and we usually stick to the bar menu, which is still very tasty and moderately priced. What we really enjoy is the sunday brunch. It gets packed so make a reservation or get there early. food is pretty much endless so go with a big appetite. Service is always top notch.

Probably the best thing about River City is the happy hour prices, $2.50 for wells, draft beers & house wines Monday - Friday until 7. The service & food, though, is nothing to write home about. We came here last Thursday and were greeted by two different servers whom were apparently having some sort of argument. It was quite obvious and unprofessional as they bickered right at our table. My friend ordered a screwdriver and the waitress did not tell him that it was not part of the happy hour deal, but let him wait and find out when he got his large bill at the end. When confronted, she did not apologize or change the drink price. I ordered a cobb salad and she brought it to me with chicken on it. I told her I did not order chicken but would eat it anyways since we had been waiting appx 30 min for food and had somewhere else to be. She ended up charging me for the chicken and seemed really annoyed when we asked her to remove it from the bill. It took us about two hours to have two drinks and food due to slow, inaccurate service. Overall, the restaurant needs a face lift. The view of the river & main st bridge is great but the plastic furniture is uncomfortable & there is little-no decor our there. The menu is over priced and unoriginal. The service was sloppy and unprofessional. Would return here for drinks only.

Good food and great service. I feel that is over price for what you get, and the menu doesn't really fit a brewery. But their porter beer was not bad. The view at night is amazing!

If I could give this place a star rating based on location alone, they would have five stars. Right on the St. Johns River, overlooking Downtown Jacksonville... the view is amazing. However, the food here is below par for bar food standards, especially considering the prices, which are not cheap. The shrimp don't taste very fresh [and maybe even frozen which is ABSURD considering this is Jacksonville and we have some of the best fresh shrimp in the world], the food is often served luke warm, and its just... not that great. It is edible, but maybe it is the fact that it is pretty expensive and not very impressive that leaves such a sour taste in my mouth. Also, they brew their own beers. Some of them are good, but some of them are not good and even taste a little dirty. Ahhh... I hate to hate on this place. It has a lot of charm and is worth checking out for just the view alone. It doesn't live up to the hype, but it's not a bad place to go. I still go there a few times a year at least and I have plenty of good memories to go around! Know what you are getting yourself into, maybe eat somewhere else and go there for drinks, and don't depend on the local brews... and you are going to have a blast!

Great location and view. Upscale casual atmosphere, with mood lighting, candles and white tablecloths. Sit by a window and see a pretty Jacksonville riverfront. My dinner guest and I ordered the calamari appetizer. On the menu, it looked so interesting with banana peppers, melted cheese and various other tangy flavors, I didn't mind so much it was battered and fried - a cooking method more appropriate for Captain D's than a nice place like River City. The size of the dish was generous for a $9.99 appetizer. Quite tasty in spite of the flavor-killing effect of the deep-fryer on the calamari. I think the peppers were pickled due to their vinegary crispness. We did our best to eat the whole platter but had to quit after making just a good-sized dent in it. Our entrees were on the table. For my entree I had the "day boat" item if the day, which was cobia. Being unfamiliar with this fish, I can't comment too much in the preparation. I had mine grilled, and although perfectly prepared and not over or undercooked, the fish itself while solid in its texture was light on flavor. Fish comes in all sorts of flavors, and many people want fish that isn't fishy. Actually with the aroma of a giant appetizer platter of fried calamari still hanging over the table I couldn't tell if the cobia was fishy or not! The guy who waited on us was very good and timely with his visits. We were well taken care of. I think his name was Dave. Dinner for two totaled about $50. On the way out, we grabbed a couple key lime after dinner mints. An interesting punctuation to a tasty meal. Good enough to go back again sometime.

I was VERY disappointed in this place. The service was terrible....took 20 min to even get our drinks AFTER we had waited 15 min to even be acknowledged when we arrived, the food was at best mediocre ( didn't even butter for the stale bread ) and the general manager could care less about his clients instead of apologizing for the terrible evening we were having he was rude and to boot instead of replacing what was wrong..TOOK the items from the table. I was in total shock! The owners don't even return calls when we called to express our concerns over the staff and quality of experience. This place may have been good at one time but it sure isn't now.

Good beer, and very cheap for someone coming from Boston. Looks like it probably gets backed during tourist season, but was a little dead when my brother and I stopped in. A good place to watch locals in their natural habitat.

I worked across the street and have had a few luncheons at the RCBC. Service is quick at lunch, especially if you get there as they open up. Have had a few of the menu items and my favorites are: The Fish of the Day with the LUMP CRABMEAT topping! Yummy! and the Seared Ahi Tuna is delish!!! TIP: What a wonderful view of the St. John's River and the downtown skyline! Nice place for date night.

My husband and I came in from out of town for a concert and we found this restaurant here in Yelp and made our reservation. The process was as simple as it could be. The location on the water is great-- unless the sun is going down. I was blinded by the sun for a good 10 minutes before I could get someone to come and lower the blinds. The bread that was brought to the table was one bun per guest. Admittedly, I know you do not go to a restaurant to chow down on bread, but I feel like this was one thing that made the service feel austere, like this was my bread ration for the day. Not skimping on something simple and cheap like bread would have added to the experience. Besides that, the food was certainly satisfactory. My entree, lobster ravioli (3) and scallops (2), was definitely on the small side, but the waiter did give me fair warning upon ordering it. The cream sauce for the raviolis was appropriately rich and the scallops were cooked perfectly. Surprisingly, between the light bread at the table, appetizer of alligator tail, and my small entree I left feeling pleased with my experience.

We had the Sunday buffet, pretty hit and miss. Some very tasty (crab legs, cod) some dry and tough (roast beef, shrimp). Bloody Mary's were bloody awful, no one who has one could finish even half. I suggest very small bites to find out which is ok, and hit that more. A bit pricy for what you get . They added the tip to our bill (perhaps due to size of party) - and it was 19% (for a buffet! Really?) if they did half stars, I would make it 2.5 .

Sorry for the ultra short review. I ate here a year ago and the only thing I remember is how lightly seasoned and tender the meat was, falling off the bone. The view of the river was beautiful, as well. It's time to visit again. Too bad I don't have someone to take here.

Stopped here for dinner while in town for work. It was a nice walk from the Crowne Plaza where we were staying. Ate outside, which was nice. Food was okay, dessert was very good. Beer (I had the porter) was okay too, sort of just a porter...no real distinctiveness to it. Our server was okay, she had far to big of a section from what I could tell, and was working her butt off. So, there were times when there was a bit of a gap in service, but man, she was hustling so I have no beef with the server. A manager or something should have pitched in. All in all a solid, though not spectacular, experience.

I ate dinner at River City Brewing Co. while visiting a friend in Jacksonville, and it had a lot of positive things going for it. It''s got a great location, right on the river, which was an awesome atmosphere on a crisp night in early springtime. The food was above average as well. I had a cup of their seafood jambalaya which was absolutely delicious followed by a spinach salad topped with fried oysters and candied pecans that hit a definite home run with my taste buds. Very satisfying. The only really disappointing thing about River City was the beer, which is a little disconcerting considering its a brewery! I'm always super excited to visit brew pubs because I'm a craft beer fanatic, but their offerings just feel short for me. Both of the brews I had were just not that flavorful, or really memorable at all (I can't really recall what they were thinking back on it now!). It was a good find for an enjoyable dinner but the food by far outdid the beer, which is not what I look for when making a trip to a brewpub.

The food was pretty good I had the Ruben witch was very good but the sides that came with the sandwich were awful, the atmosphere was good specially because we set outside and were able to eat right next to Downtown Jacksonville facing all the buildings and next to the the St.John's River. Service was not great but over all this place deserves 3 stars, Why? like someone stated in a review we kept getting ignored and we had to get up to get our menus. Maybe it was because we came late but even though that is not a good excuse for providing good service.

My filet was great, but my friends food was alright. The brews were good, but not anything great. Overall, a little pricey for what we had. The atmosphere was a little too high class for what it is supposed to be, a brewery. The wait staff was very good though, but again, it was a little too stuffy for my taste. I can put my napkin on my own lap, thanks. We went to bar after, more my style. Unfortunately, the bartender was not good. It was far from busy in there ( 5 people, 4 of which was my group sitting together), and I would have to ask for my next drink, after waiting with an empty glass. I guess I'm used to bartenders being slightly more attentive.

I've been here twice while staying at a nearby hotel during the last year on business. My advice is simple: AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!! I will from now on. Octoberfest, Pale Ale, & Porter were not at all exciting.-Very plain. I drink a lot of microbrews and feel very qualified to describe them as poor and watery. This place needs a new brewmaster in a B-I-G way. This place was so dead on a Sunday afternoon during NFL season they closed up before 4:30 and kicked me out...WTF??? For crying out loud, their own Jacksonville Jaguars were on TV!!! Don't even bother going. Try something across the river...

We were very impressed with the burger we got at the River City Brewing Company. It was very tasty and one of the best burgers we reviewed so far. We would recommend this burger for lunch time. The price for lunch was very reasonable for a restaurant like this. My company had our Christmas party here last night. We were a group of 20, and usually when in groups of that size the service isn't so great. However, at RCBC the service was fantastic! Our waiter Steven had a small team helping him out, and we were never left wanting or needing anything for long. He seemed like a seasoned vet and was very attentive. I had the 18oz.. ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes and butter poached asparagus. I ordered my steak medium, and medium it was! The potatoes were delicate and light. The asparagus was a tad crunchier than I typically cook it for myself, but it tasted very good. We visited the bar earlier in the evening, and I had a couple glasses of the house Pale Ale. It was quite refreshing and tasty! The bartender seemed like another veteran of her craft, I was impressed with her, even if her quips and bits seemed repeated to us. I had the bread pudding with caramel & rum sauce and it was.... *drool*. Overall everyone in the party really enjoyed themselves and their food. The atmosphere was lovely and decorated very classy. This is the second function I've attended at RCBC in probably ten years time, but I think I'll have to start going back more often.

Our dinner last night 12/7/12 was a HUGE disappointment. Our first clue should have been the place was not even 1/2 full. The waiter was great. However, the food was terrible,I ordered the panko crusted chicken - they must never change the oil the coating was almost black - looked gross but they served it to me. The potato's were cold and the asparagus were huge, not snapped and tough. Another order of the pork loin and wow get the man a chisel it was so hard. To the right of me comes a huge plate with a small filet over potatoes and the other 2/3 of the plate white space - the filet was brought out well well well done vs. medium rare. She sent it back and wait over 30 minutes for a replacement. We ordered appetizers that took over 30 minutes to arrive calamari yuck it was cold the marinara was more like cold paste. Then after that long wait 30 minutes later here comes our salad nothing great. We waited another 60 minutes for our entree which were horrible 6 meals and each one sucked more than the other. What happened to this place it use to be good. The view is great the restaurant is nice - but the food needs to be looked at by management. The manager brought my friend her filet and asked is that better, he did take her meal off the bill, but she did not eat as we were all done with our food and she bagged it for her dogs. She said the best part of the night was going home for some Ben & Jerry's. I hate to bring this up but the manager looked like a homeless guy they dolled up right out of the thrift store - his sports coat was too long and about 3 sizes to big, his hair had more grease than my chicken and he was very timid - he has to know the place is collapsing right before his eyes.

Awful. All I wanted was a nice piece of meat after a long day of travel and work. The ambiance was great - sat outside overlooking the St. John and my martini was perfect but the entree was a disaster. Really horrible seasoning on the meat and it was overcooked. Basically too much salt on everything including the veggies on my plate. The bleu cheese potatoes tasted like they came from a box and were ridiculously salty as well. Also, this place was not cheap - what a waste of a company expense.

OK, so River City continues to be a "default" destination for various functions, and I still wish it was a little better. But Natalie's right -- with the location, atmosphere, and variety (from reasonably-priced upscale business lunch, to romantic dining, to happy hour out on the deck), you keep on coming back. I've got to add to Ed's review with regard to the server who is just WAY too full of himself. We went there with a party of about 12 for a holiday work dinner, and Greg was our server. I guess he did provide a bit of entertainment (at his own expense), but he was more annoying than anything. The best part was after dinner, when a few of us went for drinks at the bar area, and were rolling in laughter with the bartender about this dude! She was awesome - would earn 1/2 star back if I could give it. Back to latest experience -- typical business lunch. Waiter was very personable, but considering he didn't seem to have many tables at the time we were there (1-2pm), he wasn't very attentive. Needed to wait a few times for drink refills and for the check. I'm always craving jambalaya or gumbo, and although I've had both here a few times, neither impresses. Unless you like heavy cheese on top of your jambalaya (I don't), go with the gumbo, and ask for lots of extra hot sauce since it's not very spicy.

Went there with my 2 best friends to celebrate their birthday. The Mango margarita was not up to par but the calamari appetizer was delish! We were satified with the entrees and the view. Our server Steve was very accomodating and even brought cake for the birthday girls. I'd go back and this time try their beer.

Go for the view of the St. Johns River and downtown Jacksonville not for the food or service.

The food was good, but the service was TERRIBLE! The view was great and the bar looked like a great time.

Pretty decent, just not very conveniently located. Went for apps and drinks, and all we ordered was really good. The guys I was with enjoyed their brewer beers.

Location is great - right on the water, but that is about it on the positive side about this place. Decor is very outdated (feel like you are back in the 70's), service was just Ok, and the food was overpriced. We were a party of 6 and they messed up / one of the meals came out as all of the others in our party were finishing the meal. The manager did appologize and comp'd the meal, but still, that should never happen when you are paying over $20 a plate for food...

Lunch on a Wednesday. Seated immediately outside, service was good, food was really excellent (spicy shrimp appetiser, Nawlins po.boy). A really nice surprise. But have been in the evenings and a whole other story so giving this 3 starts instead of 4.

Went here for my family's annual day-after-Thanksgiving dinner (in the main dining area, not the pub). We had gone there once before, about four years ago, and had a wonderful dinner and an all around good time, so we were excited about going back. I doubt that we'll return. The hostess was chilly and unfriendly--didn't greet us, never smiled, didn't say goodbye or ask how our evening went as we left. Our server, though a nice guy, was either inexperienced or exhausted from his long hours the day before. He kept forgetting things, like what we ordered, despite having written them down. He repeatedly promised things he couldn't deliver, like a free appetizer that was 15 minutes late (that is, 15 minutes after everyone else had their appetizers). The bread and butter didn't arrive until halfway through the meal. He just seemed overwhelmed. Now we were a big group--sixteen persons--and perhaps a bit demanding at times. But since they were charging us a 19% gratuity, the managers really should have given us someone (or maybe two people) who could provide first-rate service. However, all would have been forgiven if the food had been excellent, which it was not. A few from our group enjoyed their meals, but several of us thought our food was mediocre at best. The starters (particularly the conch fritters and the crab and artichoke dip) were pretty good, but the entres were really pathetic, particularly the touted seafood jambalya and the grouper. Not a good evening. Perhaps they were just off that night...

my Husband and i went here for the brunch buffet on sunday. It was NOT worth $23.00 a person! The food tasted cheap and not fresh at all. I rather go to a $7.00 buffet at golden corral and probably be more satisfy there. For the price i was expecting more selections and gourmet. they did have crablegs but they had no flavor and they were very watery. the potato squares were stale and the egg benedict english muffin tasted stale too! all of the desserts tasted like they were frozen out of the box from the grocery store. and the cold salad bar looked like cafeteria style. and the people that was dining there were in such a hurry to eat, as if the food was gonna get up and run a way. hahaha oh and... the place looked really dated.

It's time, RCBC deserves a decent review. We had originally planed to eat fish and chips at London Bridge, but I just wasn't in the mood for that dive bar atmosphere. Wanted more swank, white table clothes, nice view, chef prepared seafood and good service. Driving over the bridge from downtown all roads led to Chart House. Then I remembered to turn right, into the Brewing Co. Upon entering, it was empty, it looked dead, but it was only 5p. A gentleman, dressed in black shirt and pants stood at the hostess station. I asked, wise crackingly, do you think we can get a table with a view? 'Yes, I think we can accommodate that, table for two?' He showed us to one by the windows. Our greeter and seater now turned waiter was named Greg, a master of the chitchat. He shared that he was on a 2 year hiatus from teaching culinary in California. That he had the inside word with the chef and cooks in the back, so just ask and it's ours. Before opening the menu, he recited the chef's specials. One was grouper, pan seared, broiled or blackened. Comes with potato mash and asparagus. He highly recommended the lumped blue crab reduction over the top. With his description, Greg had knowingly talked us both into blackened grouper. I selected a bottle of BG Riesling and we were set. Here's the run down: 5 Stars - GROUPER - Perfectly prepared, delicately spiced coating that was easy on the eye as well as the palate. Moist, light and flaky. 5 Stars - CRAB REDUCTION - Burned butter sauce background, abundantly over the top with crab, taste and appearance. I mean, over the top. 5 Stars - SEAFOOD GUMBO - Said to be a signature dish here. It's superb, they should stick to that story. 4 Stars - LOBSTER BISQUE- Smooth blend of pureed lobster and cream but was a tad on the salty side. 4 Stars - SIDES - Mashed potatoes were good and the asparagus were great. 5 Stars - AMBIANCE - Swanky casual, albeit nautical decor, white table clothes, nice view of the city lights after sunset. Tables are amply spaced. 5 Star - SERVICE - I thought Greg was a BS-er, but a damn good one. But not when it came to food description and suggestion. His job is to inform as well as entertain. He was impeccable at both.

Went there for dinner with friends. It was ok and the food was good. Fairly pricey however. I noted a number of seafood choices that looked good. I can recommend it, but look out if you are on a budget.

I've been to River City for several different occasions--from Sunday brunch to happy hour with friends. It's versatility for different events coupled with the great location makes it a good find. Now why only 3 stars? I find their food okay not memorable. Their service can leave something to be desired also. However I would return for specific events, like my school's alumni happy hours.

If you like seafood, I bet you'd like this place. It has everything from fish and chips to some fancier dishes. The decor is similarly wide-ranging. Rusty anchors and dirty ropes around columns, a koi pond, a nice view of the St. John's River, white tablecloths and a big wine menu, horrid mood (lounge) music, starched-shirt waitstaff ... I really didn't know what to think. For my vegetarian palate, there were a few meat-focused salads that I'm sure could have been made meat-free, an odd-sounding quesadilla appetizer, and a chef's veggie plate. I don't know why this was the only dish with the word "chef" included, but I assume it meant that there was actually a cook involved somewhere, as opposed to a microwave alone. My plate had asparagus, haricots verts, MINI ZUCCHINI, overly garlicked mashed potatoes and a little puddle of mixed julienned veggies, including some good mushrooms. If only everything hadn't been covered in buttery cream sauce, I would have really enjoyed it. The best part was the awesomely tender, totally cute MINI ZUCCHINI! I despised the atmosphere, and the waitstaff was just OK, but the veggie plate was a nice departure from the fishfishfish menu. If I came back to JAX, I wouldn't come back here.

I usually don't like to write reviews after only trying a place once, but since it'll probably be a long time before I go back to Jacksonville, I might as well give my opinion based on my one visit. I had the cajun chicken pasta. It was honestly amazing. One of the best I've had. It was very spicy, creamy, and filled with delicious peppers, spices, ham, and seafood. The beer was very good too. I had the Jackson Pale Ale which was the perfect combo with my cajun pasta. The atmosphere was very impressive. I loved being on the riverfront of the St Johns River. We sat outside and enjoyed the breeze. I liked the interior atmosphere also. There was dancing, TVs, and a decent bar. My only complaint has to be the service. Maybe it's because I was there kinda late (11 PM). But we sat outside and were for the most part ignored. We had to get up and ask someone to bring us menus. After they took our order, we never saw them again except when they brought our food and drinks. We ate and sat for a while before they acknowledged that we had finished. So, upon first impression I loved the atmosphere and the food but didn't like the service.

The food was edible but definitely not good. The flavors in the tuna dish I ordered simply did not go well together, and the tuna didn't seem to be grilled well. On the up side, the view was nice and if you're into eating a lot of unexciting food, the portions are very large.

This restaurant not only had delicious food, but an amazing atmosphere to go with it! River City Brewing Company is right on the river and there's a beautiful view from the dining room. I ordered the appetizer portion of the crab cakes and a side order of mac and cheese (not pictured). Both were SO yummy. The crab cakes had a wonderful crispy exterior and hardly any filler. The mac and cheese was so creamy! My fiancé ordered the catch of the day which he devoured. This restaurant also has some interesting microbrews and they offer a tasting! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!

(5)Larry M.

(4)Larry W.
(4)Terry G.
This place could be great, the location and view is second to none, but every time I go there the service is terrible and the food isn't even close to the standards there prices command. My advice gets some good help or sell it, your driving it in the ground
(1)Lilly C.

(4)Diane H.
(2)Benjamin V.
(1)Hugh P.
The food is OK, but you can't beat the location. A front view of the St. Johns River. I would recommend for any visitor to Jacksonville. Great place for a reception for a large group as it has private rooms and a huge patio. A good place to taste southern food.
(3)Brian S.
(3)Tesha P.

(3)Josh T.
(1)Kathleen P.
(3)Jason R.
Had two of their beers. They were both ok. It took them over an hour to get out food out. Food was ok too. Would not come back here.
(2)E H.
(5)Anna-Marie W.
Along the banks of the St. John's River just across from the skyline of downtown sits an icon on the Jacksonville restaurant scene for more than 20 years. I have always thought this was merely a glorified brewpub- a place where the locals gather to chug beer and eat wings and burgers. I was very wrong. Wings and burgers don't even exist on this menu. Instead, the River City Brewing Company offers up some fantastic southern style fare including a Lobster Po' Boy, Fried Green Tomatoes and Shrimp and Grits. I did not partake in any of the beer as I was there for a quick lunch during a workday. I arrived at 11am and by noon the place was packed with local business men and women, leading me to believe this is a popular place for a power lunch in the Jacksonville area. I started with the Coconut Crusted Shrimp appetizer. Six extra large shrimp placed atop a horseradish-orange marmalade sauce. It was delicious. The shrimp had a slight coconut flavor that paired well with the spicy and sweet marmalade sauce. I also ordered a half-sized portion of the Goat Cheese and Golden Beet salad. Normally served with prosciutto ham, I asked to have the ham left off which was not a problem for the kitchen. In addition to the goat cheese and beets, the salad also had candied walnuts and mixed in a mango balsamic vinaigrette. It was a nice lite salad to accompany the coconut shrimp. The atmosphere was nice though the décor was very dated. However, views of the Jacksonville skyline made the restaurant unique and obviously a popular place. I have passed by here at night when people are sitting out on one of the many decks overlooking the river. By day, this is a place for a business lunch, by night, the River City Brewing company turns into a great spot for Happy Hour with friends. The restaurant also offers brunch on Sundays until 2:30pm.

(3)Jerry T.

Terrible overpriced food and poor ambiance. This is where happiness goes to die. It's a tired old business with no passion that needs to be put out of its misery. Sad sad sad.
(1)David T.
(2)James M.

Very nice nighttime view of downtown right at the water. I enjoyed their beer selection. Indoor seating is perfect to take your business partners or your mother in law. (:
(3)Gustavo P.
Great view and great food. Night was slow and made the restaurant VERY empty so the server was attending us the entire time.

(1)Deidra B.

(3)Michelle W.

(2)Yvonne S.
(1)Ben B.
(1)Gary F.
(1)Kayleigh D.
Ever.

KingRay Excellent salads followed by outstanding salmon dinner. We share our entrees and the presentation was one of the best ever!
(5)Ian R.
The staff accommodated our large group of managers that was here for a conference. They were helpful and genuinely happy to have us here. Thank you for taking such good care of us.
(5)Desiree C.
I had the Drunken salmon. Delicious!! Asparagus also tasty. I was not a fan of the saffron rice? Ala dente?
(3)Malik B.
Great beer chicken, blackened salmon, Gouda grits and the bread pudding is best ever tasted!! Shrimp was not particularly flavorful not was the crab legs or potatoes but everything else was excellent!!
(4)J B.

(2)Alex S.
(5)Carla M.
(5)Scott W.
(2)Paul W.

(4)Ruby A.
(4)Misty S.
(3)Harmony T.
(4)Nick G.
(3)Ben G.
It started by being sat 30 mins late. Then it really fell apart wine order took 25 mins to inform us they were out then all drink orders were wrong. Then the meal ... Orders were wrong one never did come right. The bill came and they gave us the wrong one. Horrible experience.
(1)Gene H.
So far I've had the gumbo, the ribs, & the craft beer. Generous portions in each entree make a filing but delicious meal. I've only been to the bar and the outdoor patio. The patio is covered and a fantastic place to enjoy the waterfront and the great food.
(5)Marcie G.
(3)Bob W.
(1)Diana M.
(4)Dan G.
(1)Trevor W.

Awesome beer, great service! Karen, the manager is super friendly!
(5)Erin D.

Came here on a rainy Monday. Not the greatest atmosphere, but the food was decent. I was disappointed that the beer list wasn't on the table, and I had to ask for it a few times.

(2)Brandi B.

Fantastic food, a great selection of beers and just a really cool place to hang out. We went there for D.J. Daves Karaoke onf Friday and he knows how to put on a good, fun show. Will be back for sure.

Had three beers there all bad... fish tacos were good but I wouldnt go again

(1)Andrew F.
Good beer, and very cheap for someone coming from Boston. Looks like it probably gets backed during tourist season, but was a little dead when my brother and I stopped in. A good place to watch locals in their natural habitat.
(3)D Y.

(3)Julie A.
Sorry for the ultra short review. I ate here a year ago and the only thing I remember is how lightly seasoned and tender the meat was, falling off the bone. The view of the river was beautiful, as well. It's time to visit again. Too bad I don't have someone to take here.
(4)Brandon W.
Nice atmosphere, very nice seafood dinner while in town for the Georgia Florida game. I would recommend if you are looking for more than just a casual dining experience but not too upscale.

(3)Tom A.
(3)Dan D.

If you like to get a more detail review, please check us out at Burgergeeks@blogspot.com or follow us on twitter at @burgergeeks to find out about our reviews and hunt for the best burger in Jacksonville.

(1)Ivanka B.

(3)Myrna E.
Went there with my 2 best friends to celebrate their birthday. The Mango margarita was not up to par but the calamari appetizer was delish! We were satified with the entrees and the view. Our server Steve was very accomodating and even brought cake for the birthday girls. I'd go back and this time try their beer.
(4)Jack P.
Go for the view of the St. Johns River and downtown Jacksonville not for the food or service.
(2)Sarah T.
The food was good, but the service was TERRIBLE! The view was great and the bar looked like a great time.
(3)Lisa G.
Pretty decent, just not very conveniently located. Went for apps and drinks, and all we ordered was really good. The guys I was with enjoyed their brewer beers.
(3)Kai R.
(2)Andre C.

(4)Ethan R.
Went there for dinner with friends. It was ok and the food was good. Fairly pricey however. I noted a number of seafood choices that looked good. I can recommend it, but look out if you are on a budget.
(3)Natalie B.
(3)Jaime M.
(3)Dan B.
(4)Jonathan S.
The food was edible but definitely not good. The flavors in the tuna dish I ordered simply did not go well together, and the tuna didn't seem to be grilled well. On the up side, the view was nice and if you're into eating a lot of unexciting food, the portions are very large.
