New management does not mean better food. This used to be our go-to Italian place before we moved away, but it's not nearly as good as it used to be. The servers are still great & the restaurant is still clean, but it wasn't nearly as crowded as it used to be. I'm thinking they're going for "kitchen efficiency" but the chicken parm wasn't crispy, it was actually kind of soggy like it had been sitting there waiting to be heated. The "garlic knots" are now baked in a pan & come out like squares (maybe to get more per batch?) but they've lost their texture. Hubby said the lasagna was "alright, it was different" (man of few words) - he wasn't thrilled. The food used to be a lot better.

I move to Jacksonville in 2006 from NYC and I was looking for a place that remind me of New York Pizza and I'm here to say I have found the place perards!! They have amazing pizza and Italian cuisine!!! They also have an amazing staff very friendly!

Pizza here was great till about a month or two ago. I don't know what happened but the quality of the pizza went to crap. It was great cause it is just down the road from where I live but now I have to search for another pizza place. What makes me an expert on pizza, you might ask? Well, being born and raised in NYC is all the certification I need.

Stopped in on the way home from a Jags game. We live in Tampa so didn't know what to expect when my little one REALLY wanted pizza . We split the "small" rev stromboli and still had some left over it was so big! One of the best I have had in Florida! great job and we will eat here again if we are out this way! The only reason not 5 stars the service was a little slow at the start and had to wait a bit to order and for food.

Decent NY style pizza and good service. The lunch special of two slices of cheese pizza and a 20 oz drink is a great deal.

I'm finally done with this place. I've tried and tried to give it another shot hoping that it was just a bad day with the chef's. Last night we ordered the lasagna and it was terribly prepared. Two and three noodles were stuck together, the cheese not only wasn't layered properly but the top wasn't even melted. Looking around the bare restaurant makes me think I'm not the only one who is realizing it no longer is worth the aggravating wait time. I'll use that time driving to a restaurant who can deliver a good Italian meal.

First time visit. Biscuits are greasily delicious. I heard the pizza was good. I tried Lasagna. It was good. It was plenty of sauce and an exuberant amount of cheese. Too much cheese for me. I would rather have had more noodles and a little less cheese. Sweet tea was delicious. If you go during lunch you seat yourself, order & pay at the front. Dinner time is when they serve you. Waitress was nice. First experience was good. I will go again.

I'm giving this place a 4 star rating for the food. I will admit, we order the same thing every time and it's always fantastic. We get a large Anti Pasta Salad. It is ridiculously good. I could probably eat it every day. We also order a large double pepperoni pizza. Lots of pepperoni, high quality cheese and the crust is perfect. Great flavor, thin with the right amount of chew to it. Not soggy or overly crispy. We have also tried the stuffed shells and lasagna. Both were delicious. We don't particularly like the service so we usually just order take out and eat it at home. It's not horrible, the ladies are all very friendly, but are slow and forgetful. Otherwise, we enjoy the food.

Good food, came out fast. Awesome that kids can make their own pizzas. Some menu items were crossed out not sure if that meant they weren't available or what. Good service, decent price.

I eat here fairly regularly. The biggest issue we have had is the amount of time it takes to get food, but the quality usually makes up for it.

I had dinner here with my family on our way to Marco Island. The food was good and the portion sizes were just right. One of the servers changed her name to "Goat"......that's right Goat! Well Goat had the best personality ever and so did the rest of the staff. Great job!

Best pizza and calzones! The waitstaff is always friendly and attentive. One of our favorite local date night restaurants.

Great Italian food. I've eaten here several times for lumch. I've had the calzone and my husband had the spaghetti and meatballs. They bring garlic knots to the table when you first sit down. Very tasty. They also make their own ranch dressing which is so much better than bottled dressing. The staff is very friendly. Goat has been our waitress both visits and is very friendly and attentative. I will be back!

Best pizza I've had in a long time and I'm VERY picky about my pizza. We carried out our pizza. It's thin crust and the shrimp specialty pizza is TO DIE FOR! Probably the best shrimp pizza I've ever eaten. Most shrimp pizzas use frozen salad shrimp which has no flavor. Not this pizza. And the big chunks of goat cheese makes it yummy!

I had been a regular for years and it's used to be my favorite place to eat. The bread knots are the best way to eat garlic on the planet. I'm not so fond of the lasagna, but to each his own! I love the marinara sauce on everything! I ate there for the first time in over a year maybe 2 and the baked ziti has changed. It used to be covered in mozzarella cheese and ricotta cheese baked in. There was barely any cheese of either kind. May go back to try again but it won't be for the baked ziti.

The owners/employees that work there are for the most part fairly friendly. This is obviously a family-owned place and that I like. We have been in here perhaps seven or eight times in the last five years. Only one time did we have bad service and that's when it was relatively late and I think they were short staffed because of that. The pizza is pretty good and consistent. The lasagna tastes like grandmas if you have an Italian grandma. I am not a big fan of the garlic knots as I find them kind of greasy and a pointless consumption of simple carbohydrates, but that said everybody else seems to enjoy them. When my kids were smaller they would give them balls of pizza dough to play with this was quite useful in keeping them busy. The fettuccine Alfredo is fairly standard. Nothing at this restaurant really stands out to me but it is not terrible either. If I am craving pizza and I am right there, I will go, but I won't go out of my way to go there. In my opinion, they would be well served to create one or two signature dishes that aren't the same as every other Italian restaurant in the United States, and work hard to make a name for themselves that way otherwise this restaurant just sort of falls in with everybody else and they deserve better than that.

Good pizza. Also ordered the antipasto salad and was a bit confused. Menu said it should have ham and cheese rolls. Digging through the salad didn't find a single one. For $7 I would expect at least one but was expecting 2. Pizza was good. Wouldn't say it was the best ever but it was an 8 out of 10. Will try again next time I'm in town.

This place was just OK. The best part of our meal was the free garlic bread that comes before your meal. My husband ordered the sampler that included lasagna, stuffed shells and something else. He said it all tasted the same. I ordered the calzone which was greasy, my son ordered the meatball sub and my daughter ordered the kids pizza. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer it smelled fishy, tasted awful and my kids took one bite and spit it out.

WOW!!! I was a little skeptical of this place, even with the reviews, but I was blown away. I had the Italian sampler which (I got takeout) consisted of a stuffed shell, a portion of lasagna, a meatball all covered with some amazing, well Italian gravy/sauce. I was also given a small side salad and I ordered a few garlic knots as I heard they were the bee's knee's. OMG...everything was as good or better than I could have expected...I am 1.) stuffed. 2.) contented. 3.) happy beyond words at getting a great meal at great price. I am so glad I didn't opt for the pizza, although that may be good also. This place makes great italian food...and I can get good pizza elsewhere. Oh, service was relatively quick too. There was a little bit of an issue ordering becasue someone was being trained, but I tell you it was worth it. Everytime I am near this place I will be back if I can help it. YUM!!!

Since my last review, I've had the occasion to eat here many more times and their homemade sauces and ingredients have made me understand that they really do care back in the kitchen. Not only do they listen to special requests when ordering, but they do it with a smile. And the results is a relaxed neighborhood place for a mixed variety of Italian Cuisines. It almost doesn't fit the West Side but I'm sure glad I don't have to cross the ditch to have exceptional Italian. The bread knots come plain, buttered and garlic-ed and with icing. You will love them.

Went there for dinner this evening, but not pizza. We have been here before but just for pizza with the grand kids, but we were alone tonight, so my wife ordered the baked ziti and I the pasta combo. The service was very good and fast. The food was excellent and plentiful we both took home leftovers. The Marinara sauce was fantastic.

After reading the rave reviews, I'm hoping this experience was an anomaly. Went for a late lunch, probably 1:30 so maybe everyone was tired after a busy Saturday. At any rate, the service was incredibly slow and inept, and the food just run of the mill, garlic knots were so soaked in butter they were practically inedible. When asking for ranch on the side, I was told I could order it that way but that's not how I'll get it. Pretty pricey for that kind of experience, I was very disappointed.

Great food. Great service. Great prices. The only improvement would be the lighting and clutter near the restrooms. The light near my table was flashing like crazy- very distracting. Otherwise it was a great meal - one of the best Stromboli I have had in the Jacksonville area!!

  • Justine S.

I'm pretty partial to this place. When i want pizza, I drive about 15 minutes to get there. I dont like the chain places that have frozen dough. Perards tosses their fresh dough in front of you! It's really cool to watch, kind of a lost art in todays "give it to me now" sort of attitude. Good food takes time. If you want fast food, go to those drive thru places that dont even serve real food. The food is good and consistent. I know what I am getting each time I order it. If I have a special request for something they will always try their hardest to make the item as I asked which is really nice. Kids can build their own pizza which is really cool and keeps them occupied! They have great martinis and some good wines too! And I cannot forget about the bread knots. They are wonderful!

My husband and I didn't get past the appetizer sampler to try an entree. Very good food and the waiter explained that everything was organic, fresh, and sourced locally. We will definitely return to try the entrees, too.

Very friendly staff, delicious food, and great portions that combine with a very nice atmosphere. I love Perard's for their Joker Cal-zone and the Antipasto Salad. The staff are always very friendly and do their best to make guests feel welcome. This place is great, and their garlic knots are even better.

Perard's is hands down my favorite pizza place in Jacksonville. The toppings are just the way I love it, which is to say almost dripping off the pizza. Beer is cheap and the service is excellent. I love the garlic knots which while perhaps not the healthiest thing on the planet, taste amazing. I'm also a big fan of the eggplant parmesean. Actually, I don't think I've been disappointed with anything I've gotten from here.

Bread knots are yummi... The grilled chicken wrap is so so... Nothin to write home about. Service is ok, nothing special. Just a mom n pop kinda italian place, I suppose.

Loud country music, watery pasta with over sweetened sauce and hard as a rock bread knots. We ordered the pasta sampler and a small Stromboli and were very disappointed. Our waitress was attentive, fast and friendly.

  • Chris B.

I have eaten here many times and never had a bad dish. My favorite is the lasagna. I took a friend of mine (a NY Italian) there and he raved about it. The quality of the ingredients comes through in every bite. Broke down and tried the pizza and was not disappointed. The Bubba is a meat lovers dream. Last visit I tried the personal size Stromboli and had to take half of it home it was so much. Highly recommended.

I've had the excellent appetizer sampler twice and I will gain. FANTASTIC BBQ sauce. Super sausage calzone.

After staying at a nearby hotel while traveling we chose Perards as opposed to the fast food joints nearby. The garlic knots were good, but the calamari had a fishy taste and there were too many over fried tentacle portions. I had the pasta combo while my wife had the stuffed shells. Both were covered in mozzarella and baked. Both were really good. Overall Perards is good choice for a meal while passing through. On a side note. Dinner prices include a salad. If you opt out of a salads, they take $2-2.50 off the price.

I spent a couple weeks in the Jacksonville area for work and Perard's came highly recommended by the locals. I visited three times during my couple weeks in town and had a pleasant experience on each occasion. Service was fast and friendly (even when they were pretty busy) . Food was all around pretty good. The bread knots were great as was the pizza and pasta. The wings were ok nothing great, I wouldn't order them again. All around Perard's is a pretty solid choice especially in a area littered with fast food and chains. Ill be sure to eat there again when I'm back in the area.

Great food! Had the pasta combo. It had great baked cheese on top. The garlic bread rolls were excellent. We will be back.

We stopped by for dinner and it was great, it started off with wonderful garlic rolls and I honestly think they were the best part of the meal not that the pizza we had was not good but those rolls were amazing

After a second 10 hour day of driving south, we rolled into a nearby Jacksonville hotel ready to relax and eat. We picked Perardi's over Cracker Barrel for a change of pace; had Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Kind of a laid-back sports bar-esque Italian/pizza joint, the place was clean; service was good; the food was decent; and the price was spot on. Not a bad stop for the hungry traveler.

Perard's is fantastic! Everything I've ordered from this restaurant has been wonderful and fresh. Best pizza in town by far. If you make it to Perard's, make sure to order the garlic knots, you won't regret it.

The quest for good pizza may be over. This place is a few twists and turns down the road from me and had yelp not existed I wouldn't have found it. We went a little over board this time, testing our "usuals" pepperoni pizza, Italian sub, spinach calzone ( don't knock it till you try it) and a meatball sub. The pizza, I opened the box and I said " looks good" it was good, very good, the sauce was tasty and the dough mmmm the cheese like I like, thick and chewy, I could have used more of that yummy pepperoni though, and it's great breakfast pizza. The calzone was sooo good, I actually tasted the ricotta, it was creamy and tasty, the spinach was a little squishy but still very good (you gotta use frozen spinach to get the right texture) all this needed to blow off the back of my head was a little feta just a little it adds salt and tang. The meatball was good and cheesy seemed like proper meatballs not the frozen crappy ones found elsewhere, the Italian was good but I ate it for breakfast, I'll have to try it fresh before I can judge it. Ultimately this was really freaking good, I was starting to lose hope about finding a decent slice in a 20 mile radius. I will be going back here, oh yes. Side note if you need gluten free deliciousness they have a pie for you. See you soon perard's

I ate dinner at Perard's Pizza and Italian Cuisine in Jacksonville, FL on 4/19/2015. It was my 1st time there. I did not get pizza and got pasta instead. I had their Italian wedding soup ($4.99) which I thought was excellent. I also had their pasta combo ($11.73) which consists of 3 pastas plus a salad. My coffee was $1.20. Angie, my server, did a fine job. Plus, I took photos.

This is a great hidden gem in West Jax! They have a two slices of pizza and drink lunch special which is great. You get complimentary garlic knots once you sit down. Food is very slow, but they have a notice on the wall that everything is made fresh so be patient! Super friendly staff. Calzone dough is different then most places, I didn't like it at first, but by the third bite I was sold on it.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
