We went to this restaurant for dinner and the place was smaller than it looked from the outside. It is nested around the corner of a strip mall so it is easy to miss if you are driving from 95 to Phillips. The inside has decent decor and lighting. Maybe a smattering of different asian cultures hanging in different places but mostly Japanese themed. It was clean and presentable. The food was just ok. At least the fish seemed fresh. The portions were somewhat inconsistent and the presentation didn't have that flare like most sushi chef's that take seriously. We had the sashimi dinner. They have ample amount of salmon and tuna but everything else they seemed to skimp. We ordered a tuna lover (slices of white tuna and avocado over a roll of tun and avocado) which didn't have much taste at all. I guess its better than a fishy taste. We ordered a mystic roll (a roll of eel, shrimp, seaweed salad and avocado) which was thinly sliced. I could swear that everytime someone orders that, the chef pops the other half in his mouth. We also had the spicy girl (slices of salmon and avocado over a roll of spicy salmon crunch) which was our favorite roll out of all others. Seriously, if it wasn't for the live music we would have definitely given this a 2 star rating. You think you would get what you pay for but it was more for the atmosphere.

Tasteless sushi... I guess that is better than overly fishy tasting sushi but not by much. The service is poor and when we returned the sprite for tasting weird they mocked us. It was mind boggling how utterly tasteless the sushi is here. Maybe it was a bad day, since they had also mentioned they were out of yellowtail since their truck was late. Will not be eating here again.

Just had the fresh Bluefin , Toro , and Uni . I will say that it was among the top 3 sushi experiences I've ever had . Staff is personable and the establishment is clean . While they don't always have Bluefin , if you like their Facebook page you can keep a lookout for upcoming specialties . Their sushi on a regular basis is fresh and consistent and their hibachi is spot on . If you are in the area and love sushi , you owe it to yourself to stop in for a quick spicy tuna hand roll .

I have been to eat twice both times I have ordered an entree and several sushi roll. As stated in another review here: the hibachi is inconsistent sometimes the meat is very dry and tough, and other juicy and delicious. The sushi however has been tasty both times, I have tried over 9 different rolls here. Both times the waitresses have not spoken very good English and messed up our order, however when pointing out the mistake they were very sorry and fixed the mistake. Overall I would recommend this place if you want Japanese food at a slightly cheaper price than a restaurant that has grill tables. They have $25 gift cards for $10 on restaurant.com . I used these both times.

The service and food left a lot to be desired. We visited this place at the recommendation of my sister who has frequented this restaurant after visiting a local amusement for kids. First, it took the waitress approximately ten minutes to take our drink orders and 20 minutes for drink orders to arrive. The first course of soup and salad was brought after the other patrons had left the restaurant, which I believe helped the staff balance the needs of their four to five parties but left our party of eight famished after sitting in the restaurant for approximately 30 minutes with no food. The main entrees for our parties came out in waves. Since everyone was exceptionally hungry, we just encouraged everyone to eat as their food arrived. A myriad of dishes were ordered, however, the tofu was improperly fried, and there was insufficient rice to accompany the food we ordered. It appeared that the cooks and servers were overwhelmed with the number of patrons and just wished not to serve any additional diners or accommodate any additional food orders and closed the kitchen down but failed to ensure that their existing patrons were satisfied. I honestly expect better from restaurants who claim to serve Japanese, but I should have known better to think that I could get good Japanese from a restaurant in Jville. My fault. I will not make this mistake again.

Used to like this restaurant but will never go again. Food is mediocre but location is in a good central spot to my work plus they deliver. There are just too many sushi/japanese food options in Jacksonville to compromise anymore on food quality and customer experience. Reasons i wouldn't go back: They screw up orders consistently, staff teenagers with zero customer service skills, have a "manager" behind sushi bar that is downright useless when an issue arises, and don't value your business...even repeat customers.

Highly Recommended!!! The food Is the best I've had in Jacksonville!!! By far!! I cant eat seafood for health reasons and they made me the best veggie and chicken sushi I've ever had. Totally love this place, they have my business. I've lived in Tokyo and Hawaii, and Mizu rates equal with any sushi house in those cities Not sure about negative reviews but I know they have a new owner now.

Waitress was friendly and gave great recommendations on sushi. Service was fast. This was the most extensive sushi menu we have encountered in Jax. I really appreciated that they didn't have cream cheese in all the rolls like some places. We ordered the sweet and spicy Erica, crazy roll, spider roll, sweetheart roll, sunshine roll, and spicy girl. We loved them all! This is my new favorite sushi spot in Jacksonville and we will definitely be back!

The sushi was okay but I was kind of grossed out. The hostess was eating behind the bar the entire time. Out waitress stepped out for like 10 minutes directly outside our window in front the restaurant and came back in without washing her hands or anything. I have a lot of experience with sushi and some of the roles were incorrect. Like the Philadelphia role is not crab. And freshwater real is Unagi not anago. That is saltwater eel. So I could tell the owners were not at all authentic. And so I didn't not enjoy my experience

I visit here regularly for lunch. It's right around the corner from where I work, so I like the convenience of their enormous amount of close parking, as well as their quick service. Great decorations as well! I am a fan of their "Maki Special: JTB Roll with fried rice" The JTB Roll is just a friend version of a Philadelphia Roll. The friend rice is delicious. AND THEIR SHRIMP SAUCE IS TO DIE FOR. (That's the most important part to me). I'm normally in & out within 40 minutes, and the staff is always very friendly. They've memorized my order now :-) I recommend this place to anyone looking for a good lunch or dinner. They also have a good selection of beers, in which I have not tried out yet since I've only been here for lunch. Their bar is a sushi/normal bar. I see that they also have craft beers in the bottle. No draft, unfortunately. But overall a great place to visit.

Very friendly staff and delicious food, both Japanese and Chinese. I work at an office park nearby and pick up Mizu for lunch sometimes 2-3 days a week, and I've yet to not enjoy whatever I ordered. The food is always freshly hot when I pick it up, and a really filling meal from the lunch menu rarely costs more than $10. Lunch plates include soup, salad, and fried/steamed rice, and everything I've had from the Chinese and Japanese menus are great (kung pao chicken, general tso's, bourbon chicken, kung pao shrimp, hibachi chicken/shrimp, teryaki chicken, edamame; ALL amazing) I'd also only picked up about 2-3 times before the staff began greeting me by name and making small talk. Really friendly group. I'll be a regular for as long as I work or live nearby

The food was really good but the service didn't match. We were told to seat ourselves but all the open tables were still dirty from previous customers. When our table was cleaned we sat another 10 mins mins before our drink orders were taken. Another 15 went by before our food orders were taken. The food did come fast and was great. Just don't be in any hurry.

Love mizu always friendly and the food is fresh. The ginger salad dressing is great creamy and a little sweet. The volcano roll is amazing best I've ever had any where it keeps me coming back. Other rolls are good as well.

Great quality and service! High quality sushi and a definite must go if you are in the area. Every item we ordered was great and the volcano roll is a must try! I'll definitely be returning the next time I'm in town!

I used to go here for lunch a lot when I worked in the area. Jackie, the owner, was so nice all of the time. They always had a buy two get one free deal at lunch...a good deal but hard to eat three rolls without feeling like you are wasting. I have no complaints about the sushi. I am a pretty plain sushi eater and generally stick to a spicy tuna roll and a roll with salmon, cream cheese, avocado and cucumber. Always so good.

It used to be a really good place. I've been disappointed lately, though. The food is ok, not great, not bad. When we go in, the service is usually poor. When we have it delivered, the order is not usually 100% accurate. They once said they were closed an hour prior to closing when we called for a delivery.. Like I said, it when it first opened, it really had a lot going for it, but as of late, that ship has sailed...too bad.

I was the only customer, placed my sushi order, and waited and waited and waited while the server made his vacation arrangements for 3 on his cell. Too busy to serve his only customer. Oh well, met my friends at Romas next door which was great. But as for Mizu Sushi, we'll never go there again -- VERY POOR SERVICE!

This was an ok place for hibachi. We didn't try the sushi, but it looked ok as we saw it pass by the table. I'm still searching for a great hibachi place in Jax!!

Visiting Jax for a wedding, and this restaurant was the first my friend took me to. We looove sushi. She always gets spicy tuna and nothin' else. She did get the clear soup and liked that. I ordered the eel/cucumber roll with eel sauce, a salmon avocado cream cheese roll and a roll that was spicy salmon crunch topped with salmon and avocado. I loved all of it. The fish was fresh, the service was friendly and I stuffed myself. Next time I come to Jax, I'll be here again. Oh they do beer pong one night of the week, I think it was Thursdays.

Was not really hungry when my wife came home from work and announced that we were going out to eat. Almost bowed out, but glad I didn't because then I would not have experienced some of the best sushi in Jacksonville. Nestled in a strip mall near the corner of Phillips Highway and Old St. Augustine Road is Mizu Sushi and Grill. It was a Sunday evening and we (me, my son and wife) were among the few customers in the entire restaurant. This was not a good sign. However, we were greeted by our server, Lacey, a friendly young woman, who advised that we could sit anywhere in the restaurant. We chose a booth in the rear across from the flat screen television which was airing one of my favorite programs, Two and one half men. Lacey promptly took our drink order. As my wife eagerly filled out the sushi order form, my son and I perused the menu, which contained mainly sushi or sashimi, with a smattering of the usual hibachi dishes, salads, soups and desserts (And yes, they do have green tea ice cream, yum!) We ordered Crazy roll, which contained shrimp, Dynamite roll which was fried, and some other sushi including the maguro. I can't tell you which ones I liked best, as they were all so good! My mouth was bursting with flavor and wanting more and more! This is some of the best sushi I have tasted in my life, and I've been to Japan and was raised in California. This stuff is good! Even though this would have sufficed for dinner, we also ordered entrees. I chose the Pork katsu, which came with katsu sauce, steamed vegetables and fried rice. The katsu was good, not great, but very tasty. My wife ordered shrimp tempura, which came with vegetables and fried rice. I thought the batter was a little heavy and floury tasting, but again, good. My son had the hibachi chicken, which came with vegetables and noodles. I tasted the noodles which were so so. We were so full that we didn't order dessert. Maybe next time. All and all, we were very impressed with this restaurant which had undergone new management in Jan 2012. We will be back. I'm still not sure why this restaurant was not packed with all the good food it serves, but their loss was my gain. But probably not for long. And be sure to say hi to Dennis, one of the owners of this great establishment.

This sushi place is within walking distance of my office and I've eaten there at least 10 times in the last few months. The inside of the restaurant is peaceful and calm, a great place to spend my lunch break. I have tried a number of different things on the menu and they have always been very tasty! This is definitely a sushi restaurant that deserves more business. They have a wide variety of fresh fish and the chefs will prepare your sushi almost any way that you like it. :) Sometimes I have sashimi, sometimes a deliciously fresh rainbow roll, and sometimes I'll even have something fried. Everyone should give this place a try. The take-out is quick if that's your preference.

I love this place, we eat there a few times a month. Family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teens), they have chinese food as well, so something for everyone. The Chicken Fried Rice has chucks of CHICKEN in it, not bits and pieces. The Sushi is always fresh and the kids Hibachi meal is full of veggies, meat and rice.

The food was just okay - the chef really likes the spice though. The service was really awkward, and slow for being one of 3 tables. The lighting is harsh and the music way too loud. Go down the street to sushi house for much better food and great service.

Fish was mushy = NOT fresh. Server was more awkward than your typical Japanese restaurant. Will not return here.

Heard from a friend that on Sunday nights they have "Make it, Eat it" sushi! $25 from 5pm-8pm with $1 beer Friend said you have to call to reserve a slot. Jackie the owner lays out tempura, veggies, fish, etc. and shows you how first and then lets you have at it...Sounds like fun! For now, 3 stars b/c its Sushi. We're going to try it out this Sunday so come back for a review!

So i found this place as i was driving and plus i had seen a coupon for them in the mint or money pages, i'm not sure i cant remember. However, i have been here a few times. Its not in the best location which would explain why it is usually empty. They do get busy during their happy hour which is from 5-7 and they have dollar beer and dollar sushi. The sushi rolls are pretty good and you can even custom make your own roll with whatever you want. The hibachi plates can be either hit or miss. Sometimes my chicken is dry and sometimes juicy. However i don't mind because i usually eat it with their homemade shrimp sauce. They even have live music and the music guy plays requests too. Also, they have small selection of desserts but very good. The tempura banana is my favorite along with the tempura ice cream. Overall not a very expensive place especially if you are craving sushi plus they have lots coupons and can even be found in the entertainment book for 25% off a sushi order.

I can't speak for the sushi so this only applies to the items from the hibachi side of the menu. First off there's no grill that they cook in front of you on like most places, okay so they cook it in the back so no big deal I thought. Well when I got my food it wasn't very good and the portions were not even close to what you typically get off the grill at other Japanese restaurants. I'll never go back and my advice is save your money and go somewhere else if this is the kind of food your looking for. Oh, I ordered the shrimp and scallops and they brought out the world's tiniest scallops. I could have fit 5 or 6 on a spoon if I had one, normally at other places they're so big I cut them in half to eat them. Trust me this place isn't very good.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
