Have been here twice now, and both times have been great experiences for me. Have driven out of way to come to this one in particular. Two of the staff members shop at my store and it was great to see how amazing they are at their location. Corned beef hash breakfast and the country fried steak are my go-to dishes now. FYI their biscuits and gravy are exceptional! Great service, great food, excellent and very booming atmosphere. I only hope there are some gift cards for Metro coming my way for the holidays from friends ;)

Let me start out by saying we live in the Arlington area of Jacksonville and have visited this Restaurants other locations in San Jose and Hendricks Ave. and both experiences were Very good, but Sat. morning Sept. 5th my wife's birthday we decided to try this restaurant since we were headed out to Orange Park so we decided to try the Roosevelt Mall location. Time was around 9:00am so I anticipated a wait but after 20 minutes we finally were seated. Wife ordered the Chicken n Waffle and I ordered the Steak n Eggs. Server was friendly and polite and took our order fairly quickly. Issue # 1: Coffee was brought to table with no cream Issue # 2: My order was delivered and the toast was barely toasted and No Butter on the toast, I had to ask for butter n Jelly. Issue # 3: Steak n Eggs you would think the server would ask if you want 57 sauce or steak sauce but was never ask so that was another item I had to ask for. Issue # 4: Hash Browns burnt on bottom, did not notice till I took a bite and then checked out the bottom and they were Black Burnt. Issue # 5: Wife's chicken was over fried and Dry, Still edible but you could tell the chicken had been cooked for a while and sat under a heat lamp which I noticed as we were walking out of the restaurant. Now I am not one to frequently complain but when you spend over $35.00 for breakfast you would expect an enjoyable experience and I know your saying well why didn't you just send it all back and demand a new order. Well after the time we spent it was not an option so we just chalked it up as a bad breakfast day and will never go to this location again. It was loud, hectic, and busy as al Metro Diners are and did not want to pitch a bitch so we paid the tab, tipped our server and headed out never to return to this location. I guess it was just our turn to get a bad breakfast. We will stick with The original on Hendricks for a good experience with breakfast from now on.

Metro Diner is definitely good eats. This restaurant has opened in several areas around Jacksonville first starting at San Marco but NOW there are 4 or 5 locations in the Jacksonville area. Personally, I wish the hours at this Metro were extended and they didn't close at 2pm but the Metro in Orange Park on Kingsley is opened until 8pm and they serve dinner. Metro Diner is a very busy kinda place. It is crowded and loud, there is always a wait, and there's never enough seats to accommodate customers waiting to be seated. The establishment is small, but it works out ok. The prices are a bit on the higher side for my taste, the breakfast menu seems to be overpriced and not really worth what it costs. I am a big fan of chipped beef on toast but for a full order which comes with 2 whole pieces of toasted white bread cut into halves (so you have 4 triangles) & you get a ladle of chipped bean gravy over your toast for $8.99 is steep. A waffle is $7.99 JUST a waffle, no fruit or anything fancy. However, the Chicken Pot Pie is pretty delicious and at $8.99 for jumbo size I'd say it's worth the price. The food is good but if you're on tight budget I'd suggest going elsewhere because you'll never spend less than $10 a person here.

BETTER. MUCH better. My first Metro Diner experience was quite a while back at the San Jose Blvd. location, and it was, quite frankly, less than stellar. So when I was out and about with mom not too long ago, she was starved for a good breakfast, and we were in the neighborhood of the Roosevelt location, so i figured we'd give it a whirl. Atmosphere: I like the layout, it's not crunched to where you're elbow to elbow with the people at the next table, and the vibe is laid back and comfortable. Theres plenty of tables and seats to accomodate the fiercest of breakfast crowds, yet I'd come as early as possible if I were you. Hungry doesn't pair well with waiting, and you never know... Food: I ordered the Country Benedict (2 poached eggs, sausage patties, and caramelized onions), and mom had the Corned Beef Hash with poached eggs and toast. A sigh of relief escaped me as I dug in, took the first bite and savored the rich trifecta of runny eggs, soft gooey onions, and meaty sausage. The home fries were a welcome addition, not over or undercooked with just the right crunch. Mom thoroughly enjoyed her dish as well, the portions are astronomical in size, so when she couldn't finish, I went in for the kill. Nice texture to the hash...it wasn't dry nor soggy and I happily scooped it up onto the toast with the egg and devoured it "last meal on earth" style. Happy Happy Happy. Service: I'm so bad with names. And receipts. But I will say that our server was on top of things from the get-go, and he was friendly and very helpful in describing a few menu items that we had questions about. The joint was packed wall to wall, but there was never a period where we were waiting long on drink refills and the food arrived faster than I anticipated. From start to finish it was a great experience! YES, go here. I've yet to try the lunch/dinner menu options, but I'm sure i'll tackle that soon. I ecstatically recommend this location for all that have yet to try, I'm sure if you've been to any of the others you'll notice the difference. It's great to be back, and as always, keep on Yelping!

Went here for lunch twice. My co-workers raved about the peanut butter jelly burger. While I did not order that because of the jalapeños, each person who did order it recommended it. I tried the club sandwich and it was HUGE!! Also tried a grilled cheese with tomato bisque that was very tasty. Better than your average tomato soup. Service is not fast here, but who cares? The food is delicious.

I want to rate it higher but I can't statistically. I've been to the Metro four times. Two times I loved my meals and two times I hated them. This last time was my fault as I knew better before ordering the huevos rancheros which translates to "big freaking sloppy mess of non traditional stuffs". It is also my fault because I lived in Texas for almost two decades and know my authentic Mexican/Tex Mex. The dish was a sloppy mess of eggs, cheese, jalapeños, black beans and crazy large triangles of double deep fried bread. However, if you are more interested in quantity over quality then this dish is definitely for you! It doesn't taste bad, it just doesn't taste that good. None of the flavors compliment each other. For the laymen tongues out there that think La Nop is the best Mexican food there is (or if you even think of Taco Bell as Mexican food) you can just skip right over my review. My eyes seriously popped when I saw it set down in front of me. I did a double take at the waitress and kind of chuckled. It feeds four easily and it costs less than 10 bucks. So I ate about a fourth then stuck the rest in a to-go box. I stopped at the grocery store to pick something up before heading home and by that time I realized it wasn't even worth saving and tossed it in the trash. I'll still go back to the Metro though I probably won't get adventurous with the menu again.

Always a pleasant experience at this metro diner location. The servers are kind and the manager is always very friendly and says hello and checks on almost every table to make sure everyone is happy with their meals. My last visit, I bought lunch to go and I got the grilled three cheese but added ham which was extremely salty but still really tasty. This location is clean and has a great friendly vibe! Will continue to visit this location!
(5)Robbie W.
Not bad... Very crowded but then again it was 11 AM. It is a very noisy environment but that's to be expected with an open kitchen type of setting, it was clean, tables a little tight. They offetr indoor, outdoor and bar seating (jus kitchen view/no alchol, sorry). The menus are very straightforward prices range from $6 to $17... We had typical coffee, tea came rite out but food took over 20 mins...again, it was packed! Hubby had the corned beef w/potatoes and yur choice of eggs...its real corn beef, not processed... He said it was very good. I got chicken n waffles (1/2 order....thnx jara for suggestion!)...thry mix texas pete w/maple syrup on the side. Its yummmm on that fried chicken! All in all, will go bk again oh and btw its way bigger than the hendricks location. Try it...its breakfast for goodness sake! Lol...
(4)Jean L.
Great place for breakfast. You have to try the corn beef hash. I went back and tried their chicken and waffles. At least I can say I tried them.
(3)Angela K.
I would give it a 4 star for food but the bottom bun on the breakfast burger was soaked with burger grease. Our fries were delivered well after our sandwiches were too. The salt shaker had gunk stuck to the lid and the ketchup lid had dried ketchup child finger prints all over it. But we gave 3 star for the working lunch crowd. They cant accommodate those who take hour lunches. We arrived at 11:20 and had a 10 minute wait. Was sat and waited 5 minutes for a waitress who said she wasn't prepared to take our order, just our drink orders. There was only 2 of us and we just wanted two easy to remember sandwiches.
(3)David S.
The first time I came here I was a little skeptical about this whole "chicken and waffles" thing. Never had that combination in NY. It was either one or the other. When I tried it here, WOW! Amazing. I fell in love. Now i have to keep coming back every so often. They have other food too that is just as delish. Definitely worth a shot and you'll keep coming back. I'm getting hungry just writing this.
(4)Erika C.
Food was mediocre. Service was horrible. Waitress didn't acknowledge us the entire time we sat there eating. They forgot my husband's hashbrowns and I had to remind another waitress to bring them for us. Will not be back.
(2)Robert N.
I guess the reason I gave this diner only three stars it was not as good as the other place I visited because of the TV show. Diners,Drive Inns and Dives. It was a long wait in hot rainy Florida weather. I asked that my ommette be well done but the cook must have paid no attention. It was too hot to drink coffee so I just had a water. So busy and crowded. I may go there again but maybe not.
(3)Crystal K.
I've always loved this place and yesterday visited this location for the first time. It was also the first time I brought my two toddlers there. Everything was amazing, as usual, but I was unimpressed with the kids meal. My kids, as a lot of them are at this age, are pretty picky and the offerings seemed either to be too much food. I ended up ordering items for them a la carte so everyone could get something they were sure to eat. It might be better to have items that you can mix and match on the kids' menu.
(4)Henry-Ro D.
I think it's overrated and over priced. We ordered the chicken and waffle, for $15 the food is way over price. We have to remember, this is the south and minimum wage in J'ville is not even $8.00. The chicken is over fried and portion is ok. I ordered eggs benedict and you could tell that hollandaise sauce is from a powdered packet. You just expect more from a southern restaurant

Forgive me Yelpers, for I have sinned. It's been...a long time...since my last confession. You see, I've lived in Jacksonville for many years. I've visited Metro Diner a number of times and have been to 3 of the locations. I just finally tried the chicken and waffles and have seen the light! My family was looking for breakfast yesterday. We headed to Arden's Kafe to try the buffet only to find a sign on the door alerting us to a holiday closure. No problem, I thought, as I knew Metro opened a location on US17. Of course it was packed and we put our names on the list. After about 40 minutes, we were seated. My mom and brother ordered egg dishes and enjoyed them. Boring! I ordered the half chicken and waffles, white meat. You know when you order a dish and it's too much food but it's so good your brain wants to keep eating but your stomach is about to explode? Yeah, I had that. The chicken was crispy, not greasy, and ridiculously moist. The waffle was light, crispy, and topped with a yummy strawberry butter. The dish is served with their sweet and spicy sauce which is syrup with a few shakes of hot sauce mixed in. Let me just say that bite of chicken with a little crispy skin, dipped in the sauce paired up with a bite of waffle smeared with butter? So incredibly balanced and so very tasty. I kept saying how good it was during the meal that my family likely thought I was crazy. So, in summation, Metro Diner serves a lot of good dishes. Don't be an idiot like me and take years to try the chicken and waffles. They're famous for it for a reason.
(5)Alex B.
This place was absolutely delicious! Both of the dishes we had were well put together and had amazing flavor! Even though there was a significant wait to get seated, it was well worth it. And to top it all off the service was impeccable! Thanks for a great brunch!!
(5)Marty C.
First time here and it was good. Sorry only one pic I was on phone when food came. I had the bacon swiss mushroom burger. The mushrooms were right out of the can a little disappointed but over all it was delicious. My friend got the chicken and waffles and he's hard to please but he said it was delicious as well. The waffles were soft like I like a lot of times waffles come to you hard. I hate that. Good service I would mention the young guys name but he never said it. We will go back for sure!!!!!!!! Why does this app ask me if they (DELVY) I think its delivery Mr Yelp People

Wow I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place. Metro Diner was one of those places that every person I asked from Jacksonville said I must try. So all the hype I had experience from word of mouth to their triple D appearance. I have never been disappointed. From their massive chicken and waffles portions (strawberry butter, yum!) to their extensive breakfast menu you can never go wrong with any choice. My recent discover was the Vortex. It's a hamburger sandwich between two grilled cheese sandwiches loaded with the works. It's a sandwich that taste so good but is just so wrong (that's if your doctor or wife finds out). I am now a Metro Diner advocate for anyone who ask where they should try.

Let me start off by saying that this review is based solely on the food, and not the service. Our waitress was very pleasant and prompt. Unfortunately, the food was uneatable. Of the five of us, the only one what was able to finish her meal, ordered pancakes. The food was incredibly greasy, gristly and either completely over cooked, or undercooked. I will give one example... I ordered the Frisco Breakfast Sandwich. The bread was grilled with oil. You could see it caked on the bread and plate. The grilled bread was far from completely cooked and you could taste that the grille had not been cleaned from whatever was previously cooked. I wasn't thrilled to taste the grits, which were prepared for another customer. The ham was piled high, but unfortunately, the ham was fatty and flavorless. The hash browns were burnt on the top and cold in the center of the dish. What this diner needs to remember, it's not just about the amount of food you're going to throw out on the plate, but quality.

Let me start by saying that the portions here are huge! I ordered the Huevos Rancheros which is a simple Mexican breakfast dish. I was hoping to experience the tastes similar to what I've ordered in authentic Mexican restaurants on the west coast., but Metro Diner's version didn't quite meet my expectations. While there are many variations of this particular dish, the traditional way Huevos Rancheros (Rancher's Eggs) are prepared is with corn tortillas, lightly fried. Their spin was more of a "Tex-Mex" style using fried wheat flour tortillas instead of corn tortillas that just didn't satisfy my craving. This dish was definitely lacking the depth in flavors. My boyfriend ordered the pancakes and a side of sausage. He said the pancakes were too large, too dense, too thick and just didn't have that fluffy element that a nice pancake should have. The sausage was average at best. Our server, Jordan, was excellent and very attentive from the moment we walked in. However, foodwise--Metro Diner just didn't live up to the hype and we could get a better meal at any other breakfast place for probably half the price. Perhaps this is a better place for lunch....

You can never go wrong with what you order at Metro Diner! Everything I've ever ordered has been delicious! Metro is definitely one of my go to places! It can be busy, but it's definitely worth the wait!
(5)Mary T.
Been here a few times. Busy each time! Wait was never long though, and staff is always very friendly. My most recent visit, we had a new server and was just wonderful. Food comes out nice and hot in a reasonable amount of time. Tried the crab cake egg's benedict this most recent visit, and that was very full of flavor. Eggs were just poached right and the hollandaise was perfect.
(4)Shaun N.
Excellent spot for breakfast or brunch. Two separate menus gives you a nice variety. The staff is efficient and make great recommendations. I love the chicken and waffles ( two sizes to choose from). Convenient parking as well. Overall this is a great place to grab a bite to eat.
(5)Brandie B.
The chicken and waffles are my favorite, you won't find better in the city and the helping is huge
(5)Laura R.
This place was delicious. My friend took me and another friend, as an out-of-towers, to a breakfast place because he knew we would enjoy it. Though the wait was pretty long (upwards of 45+ minutes), it wasn't surprising since we were there in a Saturday morning. I mean, whaddya expect? When we were seated, it was at the outdoor patio since they were full inside. I think they really utilize their space well, since they had heaters inside the outdoor patio. We received two menus: one for lunch and one for breakfast. I opted for the breakfast, as well as my friend, while I believe the friend who brought us here opted for something on the lunch menu? I can't remember. There were specials, and not only were they marked inside, but there was also a blackboard in the outdoor patio as well. My friend raved about the portion sizes, and he was not incorrect. Even though I was exceptionally hungry, I only ended up eating about half of what I got. I ordered the breakfast pie, with layers of egg, cheese, mushroom, onions, bell peppers, potatoes, and bacon. It says on the website that it came with toast, but I'm positive that mine didn't. Whoops on their part, I suppose. PROS: Fast service. Even though we were outside, the server checked up on us multiple times. Awesome selection of both sweet and savory dishes. Very large portions. You could easily get two meals out of one (at least if you're small like me!) Heated patio. CONS: Long wait time (but it's expected). Apparently the toast was forgotten, which was supposed to come with my meal. THE VERDICT: This place was delicious, and well worth the wait! I think I'll definitely have to try something sweet when I come back here. I was torn between the savory and sweet options, and eventually savory won out. I would say, if you've got a smaller appetite like I do, that you could EASILY get two meals out of something here. I always enjoy being able to do that, since it saves me money.
(5)Erikka N.
This place is wonderful! A no frills diner, that is heavy on portions and flavor. I had the crab cake eggs Benedict. Soooo good. Although I enjoyed my food, I couldn't help but become jealous of the mountainous Chicken and Waffle plates servers were wiz zing by with. I will definitely be back because there are so many interesting dishes to try on their menu. I'll just have do a week's worth of cardio in between.
(4)Amanda S.
Such good service and the food was great! Love the indoor and outdoor style! So much food for a decent price!
(5)Kathy S.
I've been here a couple times for breakfast and absolutely love it! Its pricey but you get big portions. Just try the yummy chicken and waffles. Get a half portion because the normal size can feed two! They're specials are unique and delicious. The wait staff is great and the food comes out quick even though the place is packed. I have yet to try the lunch which will be in the near short future.

Visiting my best friend to see his new house in JAX. Haven't been eating breakfast as I'm trying to lose some more weight but was talked into it. I'm glad I was......everything was fabulous wish we had a place like this in LA. We had the SOS, corned beef hash and the pastrami. Service was great as well.

Second time here and I live near by. first time was with My roommate and we had to chase our waiter down for everything we needed or get it from another waiter and even had to walk up to a manager to get get checked out because he never came by to get our credit cards. The other weekend I went alone which is my usual way of dining whether it be a diner a dive or a Jacket required white linen napkin restaurant. I ordered my cup of coffee and when she returned I ordered my omelet and grits, which a runner or other waitress brought out to me. I was finally able to stop my waitress to get butter for my grits. I watched her as she worked her other tables which had two or more guests. she visited with them filled their coffee several times but failed to step back a row and offer me more coffee. I set and ate my food and drank one cup of chilling coffee. As I was finished with my meal she whizzed by and asked if I needed anymore coffee, I replied no I had finished my meal. I had my card out to pay but she was off to visit her tables of multiple people and fill their coffee cups once more, right in front of me. She talked and laughed with them and I could not even get a cup of coffee during my meal. then I could not get her to come get my credit card to cash me out so I could end this horrible ordeal. I left her a $1 tip and a hand written note on the receipt that read "I dine alone but I am not invisible!" I have never done anything like that before but also I have never been made to feel so alone and invisible in a room so full of people either.. I started eating at the Metro Diner when I was in the Navy out at Mayport many many years ago, I was hoping they would bring some of that fast no non sense customer service that they had at the beach location to the other locations but they have not. many times at the beach Metro Diner during rush times you felt like a drill sergeant was running the place, maybe that is why so many Navy Guys liked it. This Roosevelt Location does not seem to have anybody in charge and the young wait staff is running it. I will had my need for the metro and drive my Happy butt all the way to Beach when I need a fix even though I live 5 blocks behind this location. I gave them two honest tries and they failed miserably. I will give them another try when I hear that the management has changed and it is running much more like a well oiled machine like the Beach location. As it stands now, people will start forgetting it is there and it will die a slow death. I wish you Loving Kindness and hope this very honest review helps you mend the fences before your cows get out!
(1)Jack P.
Wow great place I got the hash browns they were cooked perfectly and with the w.o.r.k.s on top. Filled with fantastic flavor. Great service. A great place for locals like me
(5)Susan P.
I had the ribeye steak and eggs today. This place is always crowded. I guess it is that way for a reason. The steak is thin so even ordering it rare means it comes out medium well but it had good flavor. I got it with some vegetables instead of the hashbrowns and the sautéed zucchini was excellent. The eggs were done correctly and over medium. There's a good vibe in this place. The service was great and friendly, food was fast even though it was crowded. All the stuff seems happy to be working there and that makes for a good experience. I will definitely be back.
(5)Veronica G.
I went to the one near San Marco and loved it. This one was great as well. Great wait staff too!

I have been to the other Metro Diner locations, so when I got an invite to lunch at this location I was excited. However, I have to admit I have only had breakfast at the other locations so I was determined to break out of that rut. First off, parking is easy and plentiful, since it is part of the Roosevelt mall area. Second, they have a good amount of seating outside, so give that a consideration. Lastly, there are half a dozen seats at the bar you should consider because you get to see the kitchen action, which is both entertaining and reassuring (think clean and fresh). On to the food. There were a lot of good choices and some conflicting reports on Yelp, so I decided to fend for myself. Here is what my table mates and I chose: Philly Cheese Steak - served on a brioche bun, it got rave reviews for flavor and consistency. My friend was impressed it was not swimming in grease. Chicken Pot Pie - my choice, and I errant my opted for the "jumbo" and ended up taking half of it back to the office. Good flavorful, my only complaint was the thickness of the crust. Chicken and Waffles - huge dish and ordered by one of every three people who were there. I got a small waffle taste and the strawberry butter on the waffles was amazing. Really worth a try and everything we saw, looked good. Not "highbrow" food, but really good choices.

I first tried the Metro Diner (in Jax Beach) a few years ago. I ordered the meatloaf and it was amazing. I usually don't care for meatloaf but I love it here. A couple months ago I came here (this location) for breakfast with my co-workers and since then it seems when it's breakfast time I'm always choosing the Metro Diner. I am not really a reakfast person but when I come here I become one. I have had the waffle with fruit on top and it was amazing. I've also had the breakfast burrito with ham (it was amazing) and let's just say it was so big I took it home for leftovers. My boyfriend always orders the chicken and waffles without even really looking over the menu. There is usually a wait when I come here because it's just that great of a place. It is definitely worth waiting for trust me! I even plan on having breakfast here again this weekend.
(5)Jay P.
Second time coming here. The first was four stars, but something changed. I had chicken and waffles the first time I came and it was good. Perfectly fried chicken and waffle was great. This time the chicken is almost burnt, kinda suck cause my daughter and son was sharing it. Kinda disappointed after hyping it up for them to order it. I had the ranchos and it was blah. The meat was scarce but it taste good, not awesome but good enough. Will I come back, we will see in due time. It is one of those things that I would like my family to try. Now why four stars again? Well, overall it is not bad at all. Plenty of portions, good taste and the price is awesome for the amount of food you get.
(4)Samantha P.
I will stick to the one on San Jose Blvd. or the one at the Beaches.. I might give this one another go.. The food just didn't taste as good as the one on San Jose.
(2)Wayne H.
Was seriously the best food I ever ate. Biscuit and gray and hash browns are out of this world, would eat here everyday if I could.
(5)Rita D.
*sigh* The girls and I decided to meet for brunch and the "matriarch" of the group chose Metro. It's one of those places I drive by all the time, have even spent ample time in the shopping center it's located in and have never noticed...so I was a little excited about trying a new place. Especially since the line literally spilled into the parking lot. We were seated and served in a timely manner, even though the waiter (bless his heart) got all of our drinks mixed up (cept mine...I kept it simple with water and lemon lol). Everyone ordered tea but half of us wanted sweet and the other half wanted unsweetened. We could tell he was pretty new though and since he was a sweetheart, we let it slide. Everything on the menu had such convincing descriptions and we were eager to receive our meals. Me and one other female ordered something a little outside of the breakfast norm; she ordered chicken and waffles and I ordered the Surf 'n' Turf eggs benedict. It consists of two poached eggs, one with a crab cake and one with rib eye steak. It comes with an English Muffin, hollandaise sauce, asparagus stalks and hash browns. Everyone else ordered basic breakfast i.e. grits, eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, coffee, pancakes. I will sum it up in a few words: We All Left Hungry. Maybe it's because the place was SO busy...maybe we caught them on an off day. My food had absolutely NO seasoning or texture. It was as if I was eating partly solidified paper mache mix. I couldn't taste the difference between the sauce on top, the steak, crab, the onions that were cooked inside, or the lonely "asparagus stalks" from the eggs! I was SO disappointed and even after adding salt, pepper and hot sauce...MEH. The hash browns were the result of an inexperienced cook. Painfully crisp top layer covering a cool, soft wreck underneath. I pushed my plate aside and considered getting my plate replaced with something similar to what my gals had but judging by the looks on their faces and the barely touched food on their plates, I wasn't missing much. The only halfway enjoyable meal was the chicken and waffles which were absolutely HUGE... she was able to eat some herself AND share with 2 or 3 of us AND take home leftovers. It's as if they cut up and fried an entire chicken lol It was hot and crispy but hot sauce was needed to bring out some flavor. smh I MIGHT go back on a slower day and try something from their lunch menu...the chicken and waffles or the Metro melt sounds good. I'm in no rush though, you know the saying: fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice.............. .

The hubster and I were searching through YELP reviews for a good breakfast spot, and decided on Metro Diner. We really enjoyed the food, and the servers were very attentive! I ended up taking apx half of my meal home (I ordered a daily special: River City Hash *LOVE IT*), while he cleaned his plate (Two Egg Breakfast) and we were both pleasantly full! The menu was full of amazing sounding options, with some great classics, and some other great new twists. The portion sizes were large, and everything seemed fresh and tasted delicious. There was plenty of parking at this location as well! We also realized this place has been featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. This is a new FAVE for us!!!
(5)Samantha S.
Amazing everything! :) the only thing I didn't LOVE was the omelet. . They're all a little boring compared to other options. My favorite of all is the Bissell breakfast. I also love the crab cake benedict, yohala, and chicken and waffles! We have to move soon and this is the place I'll miss most here.

I have always loved Metro Diner from the first time I came here. The food is pretty good and the portions are huge. This time I had the sausage and biscuit breakfast with eggs and home fries. It was good, but the biscuit was a bit undercooked. My oldest son had the chicken biscuit and proclaimed it was the best he had had yet. My youngest had a half order of chicken and waffles. He was not impressed with the strawberry butter and ate them separately. My husband had the whole order of chicken and biscuits. He knew he wanted to try it after the last time we were there. He said it was good but not anything special. Perhaps the chicken isn't overly seasoned on purpose since it is for breakfast. We really did enjoy the breakfast as usual. The best part is being able to order a half size order. I have been known to order two half orders when I can't make up my mind.

I bought my food to go, primarily because it was so close to closing time. I have to say that I was not impressed with the price of the food that I received. If the food had a special taste it would have been the high price I paid for fries and a chicken tender sandwich. The only seasoning I could taste on the chicken was salt and I am sure I would have received more fries had I eaten there. The only reason that I gave this 3 stars and not 2 is because the tenders were serve hot and fresh and the service was not bad. This meal was definitely disappointing, not up to the hype.

An excellent breakfast/lunch restaurant located at Roosevelt Mall in the old Harry Seafood location.

This was my second visit to this new Roosevelt location. I have always been a fan of breakfast at the San Marco location, but had never dined during other other meal periods. This location is much nicer and larger with a heated outside dining area. At lunch time this location is very busy and it's difficult to dine in when the wait time is frequently 30 minutes and my lunch hour is 30-60 minutes. I have placed 2 orders for take out. My first was their hot turkey dinner. The smashed redskin potatoes were pretty dry, with some pieces having a crust as if they had sat in the container for too long in open air. The turkey was warmed on the grill, so it was infused with a burnt taste. This is not typical, nor was it actually burned, so I can only imagine that the grill needed to be cleaned to get rid of this off taste. The brown gravy was flavorful and pretty basic. This was also served with cranberry jelly out of a can, and the portion size was about a tablespoon, so rediculously small as compared to the overall portion sizes. There was also a side of sauteed squash/zucchini, which was a bit overcooked and soggy. The second, and likely my last experience at this location, was simple order of French fries. The portion size was good, and the fries were hot and well seasoned, but they too had that same burnt flavor infused in them. My opinion is that the oil needed to be replaced. Overall I'm a fan of Metro Diner for breakfast. However, my experiences with lunch have turned me off due to the off flavor and lack of care with food preparation.

I love on how fast the service is and if your not happy with what you got, they'll take it back and remake it with no problem! The food is always great and I love the fact that they have a different special every week! :)

This is our go to spot in Jacksonville. Always great service and food. The biscuits and gravy are outstanding.

This place is a new location but a jacksonville institution. Great comfort good. I liked the veggie burger. It was huge!!!!! Try the mashed potatoes. Awesome. A big shout out to tamika our server Great personality nice smile and efficient service

Wow!!! What an amazing meal. I had the Chicken and Waffle and my wife had the daily special, shrimp poboy. My chicken and waffle was great with their syrup and LA hot sauce combo. Being from New Orleans, they need to do some work on their shrimp poboy. The shrimps weren't seasoned so we used a lot of hot sauce and ketchup to add flavor. I think if they called it something else like Shrimp Sandwich, I would not expect a New Orleans style poboy. Overall, this diner was good enough to visit again in the future.

My wife and I decided to go out for breakfast to Metro Diner. We've heard great things of the other locations and decided to try it out. We went on a Wednesday morning about 8 am. There was no wait and we were in and out in less than 30 mins. We both got the special Challah Bread French Toast. It was very good. Too much to finish. It had French toast, eggs, hash browns, bacon, and toast. My wife isn't a fan of eggs and they let her swap them for extra hash browns at no cost. The waitress was very nice and knew the menu well. The price was well worth what we got. We will definitely be returning to Metro Diner.

Best fried chicken I have ever eaten in my entire life. The waffle with the strawberry butter is also amazing. Syrup is totally optional. Great place.

A definite favorite of mine. My husband and I go here at least once a week. I've had a few things off the menu and all were great, but we are both stuck on their Chicken and Waffles. Once a week we split a full order of it and we both leave stuffed. We've ordered pick up a few times but it's always better to actual go and sit. There is always a wait but it's always well worth it.

amazing brunch spot. both breakfast and lunch options available. the chicken and waffles is a MUST. go early or go late to avoid waiting in long lines. this location isn't as nice as the San Marco location but quality of food is the same.

Had the Roast Beef & Bleu Cheese on grilled rye ($7.99). Loved it! Very tasty. I always get the tabouli for a side, if you like tabouli it is very good and fresh. My friend had the Pastrami on Rye with the homemade chips. I love the chips, they are crunchy and good. 20 minute wait at 11:30 on a Friday but once we were seated the service was fast. Very pleased with today's lunch at Metro Diner.

Food was very good...had corned beef hash, breakfast burrito, waffles, and biscuits. Service was good. The only thing keeping me from giving it five stars was we thought it was overpriced.

We decided to try this location this afternoon. We told the hostess 3 people. After waiting for about 20 minutes they called is in to be seated. When the lady saw only two of us she said it was policy that we couldn't be seated without the 3rd. It's a policy I get it. HOWEVER at this point we were the only people waiting on a table. There was no one waiting, just us. She still refused to seat us. Once our 3rd person arrived (not even 5 minutes later) we walked in to be seated. She told us no, our name is now at the bottom of the list and that there would be a 10-15 minute wait. So now we had to wait for table that was just available and still there was no one but us! We will not be back.

Must haves: chicken and waffles, crab cake eggs Benedict, and chicken salad. My family LOVES metro!

Well, well, well....the yelpers were right. This place is yummy!!! I had to have the chicken and waffles. It was one very large Belgium waffle and an entire 1/2 chicken. I ate about 1/2. The waffle was soft and light. The strawberry butter was Fan-freakin-tastic. They need to sell that by the tub! The chicken was juicy and delicious. My mom had the fruity waffle. Strawberries, blueberries and bananas on top. The man had biscuits and gravy with eggs and hash browns. Very good. They even have their version of the Waffle House hash browns-all the way. That will be mine at the next visit. We were there at 11:00 and it was getting crowded FAST!! Try them!!! You won't be disappointed.

This was my first visit to the new Roosevelt location, and I was so pleased to see a larger dining area than the San Marco Metro that I frequent. We arrived at about 11:30 on a Wednesday & waited only 10 minutes. I decided to try a lunch dish since I usually have the breakfast food. I ordered a greek salad with blackened chick & it was delicious! I didn't love the greek dressing they originally gave me (seemed like oil & spices only) but once I switched to balsalmic, I was in heaven. I even had enough left over to save for dinner; two meals for once price is always a good thing. Others at my table had the tuna salad & chicken salad. Both were pleased & raved about the honey lemon dressing. The service was super fast & I will definitely be returning.

Service was good, ordered the Mahi sandwich and it left a lot to be desired. I could tell it was frozen and then slapped in spices. I ordered the loaded baked potato soup which was tasted like all of the ingredients thrown together. Since they are known for the brunch menu, I would stick to that.

I went to Metro diner twice while on my vacation in Jacksonville and was completely satisfied! The wait time was less than 5 minutes (not sure if I lucked out because each time my party had more than 5 people!) The food didn't take long at all, I ordered the chicken and waffles and it was AMAZING, all I have to say is strawberry butter, yummo! Lol each time I go to Jacksonville this will be a definite spot. Soooo good!

As seen on dinners drive ins and dives. Adult Food was great, but children's food needs more flare....chicken fingers were less than average fires were average. Adult meals were out of this world. We had a slick chicken Benedict with cheesy grits and a low country frittata which we shared. More then enough for 2 adults. Wait was 15 mins. Got seated in 5. Server was great, very attentive. Really want to give a 5 star but the kids meal knocked it down about a notch.

Second chance and result , even for a very simple dish this morning, was suprisingly lacking in taste and attention. I was overcharged but even so, the extra dollar for scrambled (read rubberized) eggs and toast left me wondering why I hadn't simply taken the missing dollar to the taco bell in same parking lot for a comparable and less expensive breakfast. It would have been friendlier and tasted about the same. I love breakfast and no stranger to making my own but also enjoy grabbing a quality breakfast when in a hurry and expect it to still be delicious. I have ordered previously over the phone, called in .2 miles from restaurant as I was checking out at sushi place in same parking area (received a poor excuse for sandy eggs benedict and 'fresh fruit' side) in which the order wasn't placed until I arrived and they couldn't find original order nor the waitress who took the order. This time I placed my order in front of the metro and for $6 plus $1 tip (don't know who received the overcharged $1 but hope they needed it), I received greasy yet rubbery scrambled eggs which is hard to accomplish. Toast was mediocre. I checked the bag and had to ask for an additional napkin (I'm not messy nut appreciate being able to wipe my hands). Even coffee was less than what I would expect. In short, I will take the couple of minutes to make my own breakfast next time. This place is overpriced for receiving subpar, rude service and food that leaves you wondering where your money and time was spent.

Love the breakfast menu. So many delicious items. Don't get the breakfast pie though - very plain. Everything else was amazing!!!

I suggest sitting at the counter. Fantastic meatloaf, lots of food for lunch portions. Good services, management were very attentive and present. Downfall: One male cook on the line was cleaning a range top with a steel wool, then used the same pair of gloves to grab plate, sauce, chicken, and dough to make a chicken pot pie as I sat at the counter in front of him.

Pretty good food and service. Huge servings, but the lox wasn't fresh and it was a bit pricey for what we ordered.

Longtime fan of the one on San Jose, but this one falls way short. This was my second (and last) visit to this location. I ordered an American omelette, and the hash browns, then when I inquired about TOAST I was informed it was considered a side?!? I have never,in 50 years on this planet, ever had a breakfast where toast was considered a side. Ridiculous. My omelette and hash browns tasted exactly the same, there was no flavor, and I finally found a little pocket of cheese at the end of the dish.My Mother ordered a Denver omelette, and it too tasted exactly like mine, flavorless and greasy.Their prices are ridiculous and the quality is definitely off.I much prefer Grumpy's on kingsley or the Egg on edgewood. Very disappointing since I love the one on San Jose so much. And to top it all off,the coffee was like brown water!

My first Metro Diner experience & after all the hype, it was going to have to be killer to make an impact. SUCCESS. Went around 8:30am on Sunday, party of 2, seated immediately. Server was polite & food arrived quickly. Ordered 1 of the specials, pumpkin pancakes with marshmallow glaze & cinnamon butter~ yes, I needed a shot of insulin after but even if I were diabetic, WORTH it. Side of bacon, perfectly cooked, evened out the sweetness. FYI Large portions! Could have easily split 1 MEAL, but now I have scrumptious leftovers!

We had breakfast at this location today. We found it to be a little more open air than the Hendricks ave location. although the original location was equally amazing just very cramped in comparison. After our first visit to the Original Location and seeing the Chicken & Waffles, I was set on experiencing them. We walked up and saw the amount of people waiting in line. I stepped up to add our name to the waiting list and was told that there was immediate openings at the bar. What an experience that was for me, being a foodie. We watched all the amazing creations come to life with precision. The Staff worked like a well oiled machine. Each person doing one job and focusing on perfection. The Crew Lead Barked out the orders keeping pace with the Demand. We watched several interesting and unique dishes come alive. I became familiar with Yo Hola. Now I am determined to try that on our next visit. Service was spot on!!! Did I mention service was Spot on??? Our server had it together. Very personable sharing with us menu recommendations. It was clear that there were many menu items that we will have to return and try. Thanks for a great experience we will be back.

I am so glad Metro Diner is now on the Westside near where we live! The absolute BEST Breakfast in the city! My favorites are Crab cakes Benedict, chicken & waffles, and the Bissel! Oh yeah and the Shrimp & grits is one of my favorites too. When I go there in the mornings I have Chantel (I hope I'm spelling it right) serve me, she does a great job!

This is a weekly event for us and the chicken and waffles are the best I've ever had! Portions are huge so you can deff split them. Always good food! This place is always busy as well! A great local spot!
