Healthy Meal suggestions for Mellow Mushroom

The food was fabulous but I was definitely disappointed with the decor. It was very upscale - very Avondale - but definitely was not what I was expecting out of a place called "Mellow Mushroom." We tried the Spinach Artichoke dip and frankly, I could live on that forever. It was, hands down, the most delicious version of that combo I have ever had in my entire life. We also had the Holy Shiitake Pizza and that also was delicious and lived up to my expectations. I was very happy to see that they had an extensive beer menu with many local varieties on tap (Bold City Brewery!). Will I go back? Most likely not to this location. In jeans and a t-shirt, I felt very under-dressed and rather uncomfortable. Because its in Avondale, the available parking is absolutely horrid, even with a small lot behind the massive restaurant.

This mellow mushroom doesn't have the "typical" mellow sign on the outside. It looks a lot more sophisticated. The bar is long and full of amazing beer taps. They have a few outdoor tables and a nice indoor patio area Staff seem very friendly. Fast service. Pizza is always top notch.

Mellow Mushroom has a unique flavor to their pizzas. I personally enjoy the whole wheat style crusts as long as I am not comparing this pizza to a traditional New York style pizza. We are a fan of the interesting varieties and quality toppings they offer, like the red skinned potato pizza, which is like a loaded potato complete with bacon on top. They also have an amazing local and international beer selection. This location is so much fun with a unique ambiance. The main drawback is the price. You can definitely get better priced pizzas just about anywhere.

We went to the mushroom last night. It was actually my 3rd choice. The first was downtown and the next was closer to the house but like we always do. Riverside is what's for dinner if I don't feel like cooking. Pizza was on my mind so The Mellow Mushroom it was. We walked in the it was trivia night so the place was packed. That really didn't matter for we had nothing else planned. So wait we did not that long thou. We finally got to the table and when our server finally came our way. We ordered some tea's and our food since we were sitting for a while. It took a good while for our food to show up and then our server would not leave us alone. It seemed like every slice was a new how is it? Does it taste good? Ok it's good and it really was pretty good. So they finished their trivia night and we moved on. Nothing really special about their pie. I believe we should have made the trek to mandarin which was next on our list. Oh well the belly is full and now we can sleep.

I love the look of this location. Our server was really kind. And the food was tasty. Overall, good place.

Recently visited this Mellow Mushroom location! Personally, this is the best location in all of Jacksonville. They have a huge selection of draft beers that are brewed all over the world. Fairly cheap priced drafts! Great service, even when packed. We ended up going on Monday, which happened to be trivia night and our waiter still tended to us in a timely manner. Great for large parties due to ample amounts of seating. Trendy decor and great for catching a sporting event! Highly recommend it for gatherings! Oh, and the food was superb! Highly recommend the tortilla soup with chicken and house calzone! And if you're legal, "Screamsicle" (orangey ale brewed here in Jax) is the way to go if you enjoy ales. Wish I had pictures of them!

Hello Mello...thank you for another quality experience within. We were a party of 8 in the private dining area. From our arrival to our departure, it couldn't have been better. Your staff was fantastic and a Big shout out to Patrick for his service and humor!! On behalf of the party, many many thanks.

This Mellow is definitely a nice add to the ever growing Avondale shops. The space is huge with all sorts of dining options from booths, to high tops to outside, even a fire truck! We were in the area and needed a place to hang out and grab a snack before mosey-ing on to our next meeting. So with free Wifi & beers on tap, Mellow got the vote. Echoing Caron S' sentiments, the space is gorgeous. Love the MM painted wall too. I had heard good things about the Drunken Fun Guys, so as soon as I saw them on the menu, I knew that's what I wanted. Got myself an Oberon and started dunkin'. It's hard to pick a favorite sauce. They were all delicious in their own unique way. I don't know how often we'll be at this location, but if you live close, definitely support your local pizza shop rather than the delivery dudes.

The latest Jacksonville Mellow is absolutely stunning -- very hip and modern inside with several areas to dine, and the bar area is spacious with both bar seating, high top tables and large windows (that open when the weather is right). There are also large flat-screen TVs, perfect for catching your favorite sports team. Kids will be wowed by the vintage fire truck inside (there's a booth built into it for dining) and wall-sized pin board. The food is great! We started with our favorite appetizer, the Drunken Fun Guys -- pieces of bite-sized pizza crust that are brushed with butter and a sprinkle of salt then served with a trio of dipping sauces (the beer mustard is my favorite and the beer cheese a close second, tied with the marinara). I had a full-sized Green salad and the Mr. had a personal People's Pepperoni, which were both devoured. The beer selection is very good, with local and non-local craft favorites. (I went Terrapin Hopsecutioner, if you must know.) Excited for this gorgeous new spot in the Shoppes of Avondale and happy to have a great pizza option closeby. And to those who whine about parking -- Mellow offers valet in addition to a row of chic bike racks up front. If you live nearby, walk or ride your bike!

Finally made it to the newest of the Jax Mellows... Great location in Avondale, and the decor doesn't disappoint: just as with other locations, the interior is sleek, clean and groovy. Love the table inside the fire truck! And of course, the beer list is expansive and sure to please any beer lover. We were just in for a few brews and light bites... had the drunken fun guys (my favorite) and super happy to see them "officially" on the menu :) The enlightened spinach salad was good as well. With a great happy hour 3-6 and open late, this is a fantastic addition to the Avondale area.

Went to a Mellow Mushroom years back and was not impressed with the pizza. Came over to this location and let super satisfied. Brief wait at the lobby, but waited ten minutes tops. Got good seating right next to a TV showing a Final Four game. The service was excellent and prompt. The manager personally came by and saw that we enjoyed our visit. Waiter was very knowledgeable and when there was a mix up between the orders in my party, he took the time to clarify what each person wanted. Everything came in in a timely fashion and my party left happy.

We really like Mellow Mushroom and their different twist on pizza toppings. My husband and I were perusing the menu and were torn between a few choices so asked for some advice. First off the medium pizza is a perfect size to share and you can get it split with two of their specialty pizza creations. We love the kosmic karma and the blue bayou in particular. The blue bayou has shrimp and chorizo which is particularly yummy. I also love their Caesar salad pizza. It sounds weird but it is really good. The kids like this location because there is a firetruck located in the restaurant that has been converted into a table, so eating in the back of the firetruck is their request each time we go. The servers and management team are very welcoming and make sure that you are happy with your food, etc.

  • Amanda P.

Buyers Beware: the pizza menu here is not clearly priced. Service seems to not be helpful enough to point out that you are, in fact, ordering a slice of pizza that costs $7 -- yes, I ordered a single slice of their Kosmic Karma and it rang up to a cool $6.79!!! I'm a pizza fan. Sure, of course. A common slice of pizza should never ever ever be $7. It had nothing special about it to make it worth $7. It's absurd that my bill was $20 for 2 slices and a beer. Just watch out when you are ordering and ask a lot of questions, like "How much will this cost?"

Omg highly recommend, really clean place. My friend told me the renovated it from being a fire station. The waitress was really nice!!! We loved the service and the pizza the best was the curry pizza, I forgot the name and the mushroom pizza.

Loud, somewhat party place. Probably quieter than a lot of locations and a much better environment than the beaches location. The pizza is VERY good. They get only 3 stars because of the staff. They were very unhelpful and did not care. We called and the manager told us we'd have a table if we arrived at 7pm, they gave (what they said was our table) away twice, and finally got a table at 8:15pm.

This location doesn't get 5 stars because parking is such a nightmare. I know that's not the business' fault but it may affect your decision to eat here. The restaurant itself is very large, there is plenty of seating both at the bar and at the many tables throughout the building, including some outdoor seating. The very real fire truck on display even has tables built into it. Kids seem to love it. There are multiple entrances to accommodate any direction that you come in from off the street. I've never had anything that was short of delicious at Mellow. They have an extensive gluten-free menu for those who need or "need" gluten-free food. I highly recommend the Drunken Fun Guys, dough bites served with a beer cheese sauce, marinara sauce and a mustard sauce. This particular visit I decided to go with the Portobello & Cheese hoagie but I had them add steak to it. That was probably the best decision I made all day as it was delicious! I was able to substitute steamed broccoli for my side instead of chips. I may have even used some of the leftover beer cheese sauce on the broccoli ;) My wife loves their calzones as they offer a Build-Your-Own calzone that will satisfy anyone's craving and is a large enough portion that you could probably take it for lunch the next day. It heats up pretty well in the microwave. The beer selection is pretty good and they offer daily happy hour specials. You will definitely something good to drink!

The bar is nice and the bar staff was good. The wait staff that brought the food not so much. My food came out not as I ordered but someone ordered for me and ordered it wrong. The girl who brought my food was sure to let me know that it was ordered that way and made it clear that she didn't want to do anything to help. I ordered wings and mushroom soup. Soup was ok - nothing to write home about. The wings were a awful. They were more charcoal than anything. I wouldn't recommend the food but I would definitely recommend the bar. Charlie the bartender was super nice and helpful. Good thing the bar was good otherwise this would be a one or maybe two star review.

I live 4 blocks from this great location, so we can walk, if we need to, for sure. The pizza is excellent and the drink selection makes it popular for locals, families and the neighborhood. Brunch on weekends is a treat as are the Bingo nights as well as other theme nights. Sure their parking lot is small in back, but there is something called street parking that still holds cars. In this day and age of taxies, uber and lyft, people can get a safe ride to and from the location. They open at 11 and stay open til 2, so there are plenty of ways to get to and from, and if the Riverside Avondale Shuttle works, there is another way to get around. One day when I have nothing to do, you will find me on a comfy sofa, near one of the gazillion TVs here, and see me playing RISK or working on a puzzle. This is a great place for that and the people you see are amazing. Great staff, and some of the staff are from the old 'Town restaurant, so that is great to see. Living in Avondale, I am very proud to have Mellow Mushroom as a part of the community and thankful they are great stewards of our community.

Really LOUD, but the house special pizza is off the chain and the beer selection is pretty damn good. What is this football? Damn dirty Americans. Lol

When I first tried this place I wasn't all that impressed. But then I found the buffalo chicken pizza. I have had the supreme and pepperoni pizza here but the buffalo chicken is by far my favorite and is a must every time I come here. It's not really spicy so if you have a thing about spicy foods it's not really an issue with this pizza.

I eat here at least once a week. They always treat me right. The Greek salad is great. Humus is not very good. I order the pizza with extra sauce and it's great. This place is great for kids, they have a cool old fire truck that keeps the little ones busy. You can't go wrong here.

Amazing brunch! Bottomless mimosas, wonderful atmosphere and great service! Logan is an excellent server and the food is out of this world! Being from the north, I've never liked grits, but these are delicious. My husband hates brunch, but even he is pleased with the Meaty Frittata.

Second time at the mellow. Sat on the patio to celebrate this beautiful weather. 75 degrees at 5pm on a Saturday. Gotta love florida... Our group had salads and meatballs this time around instead of pizza. High quality, great tasting food. The best thing about this place is the space itself and the massive beer selection. If you like IPA then get your fix here.

Stopped at Mellow after a night of celebrating a friends birthday and found that I made a fantastic choice. The fact that it doesnt close until 2 every day of the week is a major plus in my eyes. Our server Lauren was excellent, and the vibe of the restaurant was very laid back due to the awesome music selection put together by the manager EJ. I ordered a Maui Wowie pizza and it was delicious, even when I had it for lunch the next day at work. Great place to go before/after a night in the Riverside/Avondale area as well as any time you have a taste for delicious pizza. Will definitely come back for more.

So close to my apartment. Pizza was delicious...split it into half meaty, half veggie. Would definitely recommend. Service was polite. Beer selection was extensive. Def worth a visit

Three stars for friendly service. They need to work on the food though. Pizza had too much sugary sweet sauce and the sparsely added cheese had an off bitter taste to it. The manager was polite and took it off the bill. We will give them another try in the future.

Never ever coming back. Last night, my wife and I walked into a more than half empty restaurant and placed a take out order. We were told the order would be ready in ten minutes, and we said we'd be right back. I returned a few minutes later and sat in the waiting area in the front. The server who took my order was gone, but not a single other Mellow Mushroom employee said a word to me. Welcome to Mellow? Was I waiting on a to go order? Was I meeting someone? Hey lady, order some food or GTFO? NOTHING. Okay, so my wife comes back after sensing that I've been waiting too long, and it turns out THE ORDER WAS READY THE WHOLE TIME. It was just sitting there behind the counter. I'm not eating a lukewarm, soggy jerk chicken sandwich. Unacceptable. After bringing this to their attention, one of the servers asked if we'd like them to remake the sandwich. What I'd have liked is a time machine that would allow me to have been at home eating the sandwich I'd originally ordered after having received it in a timely fashion. My wife said she didn't want to wait another half hour, but the server replied that it could be ready in ten minutes. The supervisor (manager?) came out, and assured us that the sandwich would be ready. At this point, I'm livid. My wife is a kindler, gentler person than I am, so she tells them that it's okay because they weren't the ones who took our order, and that she doesn't mean to be angry with them, but she's very disappointed with the situation. I go back to the car in a huff. My wife returns with the second sandwich, and tells me that they charged us extra for the extra pineapple. Are you kidding me?! Not only are you charging us full price after messing up our order, but you can't even comp the extra pineapple?! (Yes, y'all, I like extra pineapple with my jerk chicken, whatever.) I shouldn't have even paid for the sandwich! I was too tired and hungry and had probably already thrown enough of a fit inside the restaurant, so I didn't go back in, and we just went home. To top it all off, when we got home, my wife couldn't even eat the sandwich, because it was too extra-spicy-- perhaps spitefully so? She's had and enjoyed the jerk chicken sandwich there before, which is why we ordered it. This, however, was inedible. I ate my half out of stubbornness and accepted the stomach burns. In every aspect, just awful.

One of my favorite spots in the Riverside/Avondale area. There are tons of delicious vegetarian options and also a great selection for the carnivores. My favorites are the hummus pita and the jerk chicken hoagie! The drunken funguys are always crowd pleaser... do yourself a favor and order these! This location never fails me. Drink specials are on point as well. Late night happy hour gives you $3 three olives and super cheap wine. I watch every Jags away game here and the service doesn't take a hit with the high volume. I went in last week and was surprised with a brunch menu!! Bottomless mimosas and Gouda grits.... heaven!

First timer looking for a new spot in Avondale, we decided a test run was called for so here we are at the MM. Open airy space with full bar, high tops, regular 4 tops and plenty of sofas. There is outdoor seating with out shade so that's out until December If your doing lunch. We started with our usual Chard and Pinot Noir. ..Menu I selected the Enlightened Spinach based on description and menu photo and my friend chose the Caesar. When they arrived it was a little surprising. Caesar was fine but the Spinach was nothing like the picture. Basically it looked like it had been sitting in the fridg for a while and was missing the one big item, the candied walnuts. (See photo) The server ran off to retrieve some but now it's too late. Impression made. Then we had to ask for salt and pepper. Yhea, yhea I know waa, waa waa, get over it. We then moved on to pizza my partner in crime ordered the small tomatoe and pepperoni and I opted for the local philosopher's pie and substituted the steak for sausage. Both pizzaz received good marks. I thought my dough was whole wheat but it was a combination of flour, water and molasses. What a nice texture and flavor. We shared some deadly chocolate brownie, whipped cream, ice cream, concoction that almost put me into a diabetic coma. We did not leave a drop. I normally don't think about what I am spending on a meal, but my friend did point out to me that lunch for the two of us was almost 90.00$. And we were eating pizza. I may have to rethink how I want to spend that amount the next time.

This Mellow location is pretty cool, I really enjoy the atmosphere but I rarely stay to enjoy it because it's my go to pizza spot for movie night! They have diya cheese for all those lactose intolerant (and vegan) people out there and the way the cook the pizza is delish..somehow they get that diya to melt! They also have gluten free options too! My fav is custom pizza with diya cheese, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, peppers, oinons and spinach! It's the perfect pizza for a movie night. My S/O and i usually split a medium and are always happy! If you want to get it delivered I highly suggest using Community Couriers!

3 stars, food was great but we went for brunch and although it was a bit busy, I've been here when it's been much busier. Server was very nice but service was terrible on this particular day. Doesn't mean don't go just be prepared that Sunday brunch is hit or miss from a service standpoint.

The pizza and food in general is just barely adequate. It's a beautiful restaurant and location so I like going there and being there but the food is just generic. Ingredients are not great and the variety is not either. I asked for arugula to top my pizza and they don't even offer it. They just are not trying very hard on the food here. It's not like bad. It's just not good either.

Let me start off by saying I would love to give this mellow 5 star because there pizza surely desires it . The reason for my 3 star review is the wait staff ... They seem to have a totally different attitude then any other mellow I've been in . I've been to this location about 4 times now and had two different waitress's and a waiter . The girls were both borderline snotty , like they shouldn't have to be taking peoples orders and tried to rush you out . The waiter we had two different times was super nice but the thing that I seem to experience every time is the long wait when you order a drink from the bar . My last visit I ordered a glass of wine and finally well after our apps came the waitress came to let me now I'd have to order a different wine because they were out of the one I ordered . I thought to myself really you couldn't have told me that 20 mins ago .... I also told her we'd like to wait an order our meal after we had ate our apps but she keep stopping by asking to get our dinner order , so I finally gave up and ordered . I ordered the lil Greek salad and the mushroom soup , the waitress ask if I wanted small medium or large . I looked her and said no I don't want a pizza I want soup , she looked at me rolled her eyes and said I know ..... Anyone care to guess what was brought to the table ??? Pizza .... At this point I just gave up and ate the pizza . It was good but not what I wanted . All that being said this place is beautiful inside and a very fun atmosphere and the pizza the pizza is amazing . I'm a bit of a pizza snob and this mellow gets my approval !! Love this place and will be back just hope they get some waitress with better attitudes .

I've been to Mellow in Avondale quite a few times since it opened, but last night was an experience so great, I had to Yelp about it. We were there to watch the Jaguars away game with a group of about 10 of us, and the bar area was PACKED. It was an awesome atmosphere for watching away games! Anyway, our server was Cassie, and she made it seem like we were the only ones in the restaurant. She even memorized the names of everyone at our table. Seriously. It was amazing. She made sure we were taken care of from start to finish, and I'm sure there were other tables there that felt the same way because, like I said, it was PACKED. We all had Pizza, beers, cocktails, the whole 9 yards! She expertly separated checks and split pizzas between checks without even having to ask who had what. I can't stress enough how great of an experience last night was. Cassie, you are AWESOME.

I finally got a chance to visit this new addition to Avondale Village and I really enjoyed the décor and atmosphere of this Mellow Mushroom. I ended up trying the Shitake mushroom pizza and was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was. It features shitake mushrooms, caramelized onions, and aioli sauce drizzled on top. The service here was excellent and I really enjoyed the layout of the restaurant and the décor. There is open air seating available, couches to lounge on if you wish to, and of course regular tables and bar service. I think this would be a great place to meet up with a small group as it is a spacious restaurant. There is an extensive amount of draft beer available, and a full bar as well, so nearly everyone in most groups would be happy. I have always enjoyed their standard pizza margherita but now I realize I need to branch out and try some more items on the menu. This is a good casual dining option when you are in this area.

My new favorite place to eat/drink in Avondale! After waiting for what seemed like forEVER for it to open, I've been nothing but impressed by the atmosphere, food and bar. My favorite pie is the Magical Mystery Tour, and they have a great selection of beers (including local brews) on tap. The decor is the best I've seen in a Mellow Mushroom-more modern/industrial, less tie-dye, and they have outdoor seating so you can bring your pup along, too. One small complaint-we came in last Saturday evening and requested an outside table and were told it would be a 30 min wait- when there were 3 empty tables outside! We ended up waiting almost 20 minutes, just to be sat at the same empty tables we walked by (and mentioned to the hostess) when we came in. Other than that-SO glad to have MM in my neighborhood!

Really enjoy the vibe of this Mellow Mushroom location. Took my husband for his first MM experience (my second) and he loved it. I ordered the Bruschetta for an appetizer and I devourrrrrrrrrred it. All by myself. So good! We also ordered the medium House Special Pizza with a few tweaks to it. Since my non-onion eating husband couldn't bear the thought of onions on his side of the pie, they were happy to appease him. (Side note) But he eats Onion rings.... *eye roll*. Any whoooo. The food was AWESOME. The ranch sauce was AWESOME. The 20 thousand televisions everywhere was AWESOME. There is even a Fire Truck booth. The only reason they get a 4/5 from me is because the pitcher of beer was $14. Not so Awesome.

Alright, as a Californian I guess I understand what they are trying to do with the wheat crust. But after living in Philly, I found the wheat crust and sauce to be very one-dimensional. Not disgusting, just flavorless. In sum- Pizza 1, Service 5, Location/Atmosphere 5, Beer Selection 5 (thank you for including Stone, Green Flash, and Ballast!). Take my review for what it's worth. I have had a hard time finding anything other than BBQ (Checker BBQ) or seafood (North Beach Fish Camp) to be very palate-pleasing in this fair city. Blame a west-coast upbringing surrounded by ample, flavorful Mexican, Indian, Japanese, and Korean restaurants. Everyone else has seemed to like this place. The beer selection and atmosphere will absolutely bring me back to try the pizza again (and perhaps revise my review).

Great all around environment! Mellow Mushroom is an awesome addition to the Shoppes of Avondale line up. This treasure is great with a group of adults, or a family with plenty of kids. Everyone is welcome and the pizza is fantastic. I never thought I would like a Thai pizza but it has turned out to be my favorite!

I don't believe you could find another pie in Jacksonville that is superior to this. My favorite, the Holy Shitake, always satisfies my pizza craving! The new location in Avondale is definitely a fresh and cool addition to the neighborhood. Service is good, although sometimes it's hard to find a server with a smile on their face. Also, I've several times been seated at a table that was not properly wiped down from the previous customer. I do have one complaint that left a bad taste in my mouth and is worthy of mentioning as I believe it's a dishonest way of doing business. My pet peeve is menu descriptions that do not accurately match what is being served. Like when a sushi restaurant puts crab on the menu, when it's really "krab" (fake crab). At Mellow Mushroom their dessert menu is littered with this type of a problem. On one of my recent visits we ordered the brownie with ice cream. The dessert wasn't worth more than a buck because a child could have thrown it together with off the shelf ingredients, but besides that the menu stated the dessert had "whipped cream". Because we have had a problem with menu description for desserts actually matching what was served, we asked the server if it was real whipped cream or whipped topping. She assured us it was whipped cream, but when it came out it was whipped topping. I know this may seem insignificant, but to me it ruined the dessert because I absolutely hate whipped topping. I wouldn't have ordered dessert, or at least chose another one, if both the menu and the server had not misrepresented the menu item. I'll also state that the brownie tasted like it was not made in house, and the ice cream came in a bowl that had obviously been scooped well in advance and placed in the freezer with plastic wrap on top of it. Mellow Mushroom takes pride in their pies, but the lack of pride in their desserts demonstrates a lack of care in what they put for all menu items. I wonder if what I am being served is accurate for other menu items. I gave them 4 stars for the pizza, but my review could easily have been 3 or less stars because there are several basic things they missed.

February 27th, I stopped in prior to seeing a movie, and think Ive found a go to for pizza and really good service here in the Jacksonville area. I travel down this way about once or twice a month and found this entertaining location filled with youthful and energetic service, and a really good Pizza. The crust was buttery and crisp, the pepperoni was of the larger Salami sized cuts, full of flavor. The Cheese and Sauce, simply fantastic, hot and fresh out of the oven. Service was a little slow given when I was seated there was only a few people outside in the patio area. It took a bit more than an hour for this dinner overall. For a simple pizza, from order to Paying the bill thats a bit too long. However, the place, people, and food will keep me coming back.

This place has awesome pizza and specialty drinks. I did order the gluten-free pizza so that is for the 4 stars, I knew it was too good to be true =P luckily I'm not allergic to wheat like my one friend lol. I liked the cucumber collins drink. It has a sweet and tang to it but not for everyone if you do not like sour which was an interesting taste to me and I do like the mix it. This place is very cool. They have open windows indoor and outdoor seating. I love how breezy it is inside. It's a good place for everyone and even families. Very big capacity, clean restrooms, and vibe. I was visiting town and my sister took me here on their 3rd day. Looks like it's the happening new place. Good food, drinks, and company!

Really good pizza! I ordered the Mellowterranean it was delish!! The best part ( for me) is that the dough is slightly sweet, I don't know hoja it's made but to me it seemed as if it was whole wheat mixed with either squash or sweet potato! Because the texture is not same as any other pizza dough, it's a bit more dense, although thin crust. Overall I lived the flavor of the dough and the toppings of my pizza complemented each other perfectly! Now don't think it's sweet I just noticed this because I'm used to dough being more salty and this was a pleasant surprise. Service was great always on top of refills and attentive to anything else! Sweet tea is VERY sweet so request maybe 3/4 strength and it will be perfect!

I have to say the atmosphere is awesome..Huge beer selection! Pizza was not that great. I have to tell you the reason I gave you all only two stars, are you ready for what I'm going to share with you? My husband was in the men's bathroom. He saw one of the servers who was working at Mellow Mushroom that evening, come into the bathroom, use the facilities and leave without washing his hands..The employee went on to serve tables. It was so disgusting that my husband went to the manager. All we saw was the manager giving the server a "pep talk". Oh and the two stars was for our server who really deserved 5 stars..She was awesome. Sadly, we won't be back.

The pizza here is awesome. It really is my favorite. My friend and I sat at the bar and admired the beautiful build out mellow mushroom did at this location. It's more modern and not as "Disney-like" as some other locations. One thing I was really disappointed in...I'm pretty sure the beer glasses are not full pints? I asked the bartender and he said they are smaller. I think that's kind of dishonest and cheap of them to do. I paid 5$ for my short beer... Just serve me a full pint and charge me what you need to. Another thing are the menus...pardon the pun they are super cheesy. Pictures of the food? Come on mellow you are cooler than that! All in all, I have loved the pizza for years and will continue to eat it!

Amazing location, great food and fantastic draft selection. Service is not the greatest but they are nice and make an effort. The delicious meal and ambience totally makes up for it. Try the Mighty Meaty pizza or the mushroom soup. Oh and you can sit in a big fire truck. Yep you read that right!

A place to see, be seen, and drink. The decor is fabulous. Bartender was friendly and house wine is 2.99. However to eat, we will go to Ale Pie House down the road. We had the Cosmic Karma, I envision perhaps they have a bunch of frozen Tombstone pizzas they are making in the back? Maybe it is the sweet tomato sauce, or just the dough, I don't know, but my friend and I tried pizza twice here and I just hate it. And the salad for $6.99 was small for the price. But again, I think this is an awesome spot to drink and look around and enjoy with friends.

I rate the pizza at Mellow Mushroom as below average, contrary to popular opinion. But the large, beautiful, upscale, atmospheric Pie Bar at the Avondale location is one of the nicest spaces in Jacksonville! I would rate the selection of 65 craft beers and the beauty of the place at 5-stars! Regarding the food here, this is the first time I've visited a Mellow Mushroom. Since I prefer a thin, crisp crust as one finds at Pele's Wood Fire or at Your Pie, the doughy, chewy, boring crust at Mellow Mushroom is a turn-off. But if I want a great beer at 1am any night of the week, I will head to Pie Bar here (yes, it is open until 2am seven nights a week!)

Tonight (2/11) we wanted to check out the brand new Avondale Mellow. At 6pm we scored a parking space right out front. The building is just beautiful. Open and airy, finished with lots of glass, brick and wood. Cool firetruck inside. Bar area is also very open and they have a LOT of beer taps, yeah, full bar too. We found a spot at the bar, ordered a couple of Jon Boats and discussed this new addition to St. Johns Ave. Bartenders were super friendly and accommodating. Finally decided on spitting the Mighty Meaty pizza and a Caesar salad. Caesar arrived quickly and was good, but then the pizza arrived, and was off the chain good. A perfectly baked pizza pie. I don't do 5 stars often, but props to Mellow Avondale. Keep up good work.

Have always been a lover of all things Mellow Mushroom and was beyond ecstatic to learn one would open in the neighborhood. Despite all of the early opposition to the restaurant (IMO, ridiculous)...this has been an awesome addition to our community. Normally stick to the Kosmic Karma or a plain pepperoni, mushroom, banana pepper, but I'd imagine you can't go wrong with any pizza order. Have to share on our first trip, a food runner delivered a drunken funghi to our table and managed to dump cheese sauce over my LV bag-luckily it wiped up easy and did not stain. The associate was incredibly apologetic for the mishap...That little snafu will not prevent me from returning. Love this place.

The pizza is ok.... That being said there is no way in bloody f%@?&$? Hell that this place is worth the money you will spend. Over priced does not begin to describe this place. I've had better pizza for MUCH less $$$.

I met my sorority sisters for happy hour and loved the design and "hip" feel they achieved. My only complaint would be the kids everywhere, almost a day-care atmosphere. I don't eat pizza so can't comment on that but the bartender was all over us with great service.

Really great experience for lunch. The slice option is a life saver. Great selection of beers in draft. Also, interesting cocktails on the drink menu. Staff interaction was excellent. Great addition to Avondale.

I've been here twice, and so far, I like the soups. My grandson likes the fire truck inside the dining area if he is able to find room to play on it, and we enjoy the games in the lounge area. A friendly game of checkers was a great way to pass the time as we waited (and waited and waited for our food on our last visit. My tortilla soup was pretty good and fairly spicy, just the way I like it, which was a good thing since it helped make up for what it lacked in temperature. Unless the soup is of a chilled variety, in which case it should be served chilled, it should be served steaming hot. I don't understand how I was served lukewarm soup unless it sat in the pass too long. After all, the hostess DID seat us in a section whose server had not even shown up for his shift. On my previous visit, I had ordered the stuffed portobello mushroom. I ate some of the mushroom and the topping, which was pretty sparse. After that, I lost my appetite for the tasteless mushroom that seemed to grow larger and more slimy in my mouth the longer I chewed it. Let's face it--mushrooms are great when added to dishes and combined with other tasty ingredients, but eaten by themselves have very little flavor or texture. In fact, if they are added to a dish, I have found that the spices need to be increased since mushrooms seem to suck the flavor out of the food, something like what happens when you cook with eggplant. This last time, I ordered half a chicken-cheese hoagie to go with the soup. There was a long wait between the soup and the hoagie. When the waiter, bless his heart, plunked down that huge white plate with a small brown glob in the middle of it, I was decidedly underwhelmed. Where the other dishes we had been served were at least attractively presented, this looked like a Saint Bernard had just pooped on my plate. I commented to the waiter, "How ugly!" He laughed nervously, and I said, "Oh well, what I really care about is how it tastes!" If only I had known how right I was! The description on the menu sound very good--teriyaki chicken with melted cheese, grilled onions, peppers and mushrooms, lettuce and tomato on choice of bread. I chose French bread since I knew it would hold up underneath the hot, grilled ingredients in the same way an authentic New Orleans po' boy does. What I got was a sesame roll which did NOT hold up, and after a few bites became a soggy, tasteless mess on the plate, on the table and in my lap. I was sad to see one of the two very small slices of tomato land on the floor. I then dissected the remains and found very, very little cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions or chicken. Do not be fooled by the cleverly written descriptions on the menu. The details about this particular sandwich had very little resemblance to the real thing. When I had ordered, I had had visions of warm grilled onions and peppers adding flavor to the crunch of a French baguette, all topped with cold, crisp lettuce and a tang of tart tomato slices. Not! As a supervisor explained to me, in order to save time the cook throws the hot ingredients off the grill on top of the cold ingredients that have already been placed in the split bun. Then the entire sandwich is covered in a mountain of hot mushrooms. And by the way, adding more and more salt to the mushrooms does not enhance the flavor! To give them credit, the supervisor had the kitchen prepare another sandwich to my specifications, but it still lacked flavor and fell apart once again after only a couple of bites. Even with the soup, I still left the restaurant hungry. After the two failed attempts at the chicken-cheese hoagie, I was too frustrated to eat and did not want to wait for a third entree to be prepared since everyone else in my party was ready to go. I'm guessing that this restaurant's popularity has more to do with its atmosphere, the good selection of beer, the unique interactive decor, the live entertainment and the pizza. With all this going for them, I suppose they don't need to worry about the quality of the rest of their food. Too bad.

Sat outside for a mommy and son date. Waited 10 minutes for the staff to bring a highchair for my toddler. For 30 minutes, we only had water. I did not receive my wine for 45 minutes, after I had already eaten a delicious spinach salad with pecans and my son had his fruit salad. The wine finally arrived AFTER my pizza came and it was mediocre at best. The pizza was absolutely delicious and the server was apologetic. He was kind enough to remove the wine from my bill. If this place can tighten up its service a little bit, I think it will be very successful. The atmosphere is just lovely! I had the Thai pizza with curried tofu and it was really yummy!! I will give it a second try...

Great place for dates or just hanging out with friends. I definitely suggest everyone should try the Kosmic Karma and House Special pizzas. If you can't decide on one pizza to order, you can get half and half pizza. The service was was great and attentive. The manager even stopped by each table to make sure every customer had great service as well.

We love going here. Taking the kids is great even have a fire truck inside for them to play on. Also I have met my friends for beers at the bar which is separate from the dining and has a ton of craft beer even 3 nitros.

I'm so pleased they are here in the neighborhood. Stunning restaurant built where the old Shell station once was in Avondale. The room we sat in had a tribute to the Shell station which I thought was very thoughtful. Firetruck in the main entrance and an interactive wall to leave messages and imprints. Absolutely beautifully crafted-modernly designed Pie Bar. Welcome to Avondale-Mellow Mushroom!

The bar is great. The dining room is not so great. 2nd time we had to walk out due in- attentiveness at check in. Stood there for over 5 minutes waiting to be hosted. The only way I'll go again is if there is an open seat at the bar. Otherwise I'll go somewhere else. Too many other great places to eat around with better service.

I have been about 4 times since it opened in the heart of Avondale. The service had a hiccup the first night I went, but aside from that, it has been great. Really, what is there to say. It's a Mellow Mushroom. Good pizza (try the Holy Shitake, even if only for the name), good sandwiches, and about 60 beers on draft. They have some truly awesome brews boasting up to 10% alcohol. so, cheers

Well, this was my second visit and my last. I called ahead as we had a party of 10. Gave them my name 3 times. When we arrived, they had no notice of our party. Then said it would be 25 - 30 minutes before we would be seated, which actually took over an hour. Our server was great - food was OK. Noise level was horrendous. Their smoking area is by an open window with cigarette smoke drifting in the window. This was not a pleasant dining experience. I will not recommend this restaurant.

I am happy to tell you that this isn't a spur of the moment review based off one shining experience there. I have been to Mellow at least 25 times since it opened not that long ago. The atmosphere, employees, drink prices, and (of course) the pizza are all why I keep coming back! In my mind, until I have anything even resembling a poor experience, why go anywhere else? Most of the time I am seated at the bar, so by now I've learned the names of all of there bartenders. Every single one of them is great! They are ALWAYS courteous, helpful, and friendly. Again, considering how often I come here, I can't believe I have never seen a single one of them give subpar service! Another thing I like is the surroundings -- very modern, charming, and extremely clean. If you're looking for a place to get a great tasting pizza, you have to try Mellow! This place is perfect for families (they literally have a firetruck INSIDE the restaurant that kids love to look at), hanging out with friends, or even a date night. Individuals from all ages and walks of life will feel welcome there. The other Yelp reviews give a lot of praise on the pizza, so I won't go on and on about it. I personally am not a huge fan of the crust, but I seem to be the only one that thinks this. It is still a very awesome pizza though. Also, try their wings with the Thai sauce -- AWESOME! In closing, I want to say job well done to the management and staff of this facility! Keep up the good work!!

Mellow Mushroom is such a great addition to the Avondale area as well as a beautiful and clean restaurant overall. The atmosphere is awesome, both bar and dining area. The bar and wait staff are always very friendly and attentive. They have a huge beer selection and lots of IPA's (which I love). I usually just ask the bartender to choose a beer for me and they have never failed to please me. Their food is delicious and they have a great variety of different pizzas, sandwiches, calzones, etc., for everyone to enjoy along with gluten free options. Even if you're there for just drinks, you have to order the Drunken Fun Guys- they are phenomenal. My favorite pizza has always been their Buffalo Chicken, but recently I have been hooked on their Holy Shiitake pie. Their kitchen staff always does an exceptional job to make sure everything comes out perfect. I am overall extremely pleased with the turn out of this new location and I will continue to dine here.

Long wait, undercooked pizza, costco food service meatballs. Definitely not in keeping with the Asheville and Gainesville restaurants of the same name. They tried to make this one upscale and hit bottom.

What a fantastic place to get some grub! The pizza was delicious and my husband said his calzone was the best he's ever had! Our server Danni was such a sweetheart and made sure they kept mushrooms away from my pizza (I'm allergic). She also recommended the calzone to my hubby who was very pleased with it! Overall the service was spectacular and the food was delicious- well done mellow mushroom!

First off there is something magical about the pizza dough. I can't put my finger on it but it is just right for me. This was my first Mellow Mushroom in Jacksonville but my third overall. We came because of a groupon deal we recently purchased. I really enjoyed the Avondale location as it is contemporary and clean! Huge bar area and lots of space to spread out so you're not on top of everyone. Looking back I would avoid the section we sat in next time. We were seated towards the back of the fire truck room towards the bathrooms. Not the best view to take in the cool ambiance this restaurant has to offer. Just the same there is a pretty good sized fire truck there for the children to play on! It did get a little loud at times because of it though. No worries, I was there to eat pizza and boy did I! We ordered two. The House Special and the Holy Shiitake Pie. Both were great and very different! The House Special was filled with lots of veggies and meat and was filling and full of traditional flavor you expect on an everything pizza. My favorite by far however was the Holy Shiitake. It had a nice warm garlic aioli sauce drizzled on top and full of a variety of mushrooms and caramelized onions. The flavor was only bolstered by a small drizzle of black truffle oil. Yum. I will certainly be back for this one! Also I really want to try the brunch they advertise. I heard the egg dishes are to die for. Can't wait!

I've been to this location quite a few times and have always enjoyed my visits. Although I usually come to catch a game and drink beer yesterday we had a small gathering for my sisters bridal luncheon and the waitress Erin was awesome! The whole staff was great honestly. The food was delicious and they have a great selection of beer and different drinks. The raspberry mojito seemed to be the biggest hit with the ladies at our get together but the cucumber Collins deserves an honorable mention in my opinion. Definitely grab an order of the drunken funguys, they are amazing!

The other Mellows in Jacksonville can take note, as this is by far the best one. Riverside and Avondale have a TON of great local pizza places, so I normally don't go to Mellow. But they are the only people around with Sunday Ticket, and I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it considering I was there for around 5 hours. Location is central, right in the heart of the Shoppes of Avondale. Especially during prime brunch time on Sunday, it can be difficult to park. I opted to just Uber and bypass that completely, and I recommend it. The building itself is beautiful, with a dining room reminiscent of a normal Mellow but also an expansive bar and patio area letting in plenty of light, tastefully designed. Service was also great. Our mimosas were always full, and even though we obviously were getting refills, she would stop by even when we didn't need a refill just to make sure we were happy and had all needs met. Checked in just enough to be super helpful without being overbearing. Drinks were obviously good - nothing to complain about with bottomless mimosas. Once 2pm came around, my girlfriend and I switched to beer, and Mellow is obviously a great place for that as well. Had an Intuition session that I had never tried and it was very good. Food is the only thing holding it back from a 5/5. Mellow's food IS good, and it IS way better than any other national chain. But for the price point it just isn't worth it. Obviously we all have different opinions, but I think Carmine's is miles better and at a more affordable price. Like I said, it isn't bad, but it is reallyyyy pricy for pizza that is just average when compared to the local joints. But there are 16 weeks left in the season, so I'm sure I'll be back.

I went to their brunch with a friend and it was super delicious. I had only been to the Richmond, VA location and hadn't had their brunch before. Our waitress was really nice and my cocktail was awesome (Perfect Margarita). I loved the gouda grits and my frittata was delicious. A really nice space, great food, and great service. The downside of our visit was at the end when we became aware of a man at the bar in a cycling outfit. He seemed to be hot and tired after a long ride, which was fine. Then a few minutes later I noticed he was leaning over a little. Then I saw the garbage can next to him. Then I saw a pile of vomit on the bar. Then I heard him gagging. Just an idea, if someone is throwing up on your bar, maybe you should send them to the bathroom, or out the door. Don't bring a garbage can for them to vomit in when other customers are sitting a few feet away. We left because we were done, but if we hadn't been, and were still eating, I'd have started retching myself. Gross.

Update After my last horrible experience here, I was contacted through Yelp and asked to email the manager regarding the matter, which I did. As of today, I still have not received any response. I have not visited again until today, when we stopped by to order a pizza to go. Unless I hear from the general manager, I will not ever recommend this restaurant, nor will I bring guests as I used to do in the past on a regular basis. I supported them and was very excited for them to come to Avondale, but I cannot believe how poorly the situation has been handled, and feel my patronage and support is not of any concern. Extremely disappointed, only used for takeout as a last resort. The only reason it is 2 stars rather than 1, is that the pie we ordered to go arrived in the time frame promised.

I am a Mello Mushroom lover from way back! Every so often we are blessed with this wonderful pizza at work from a great drug representative. Their pizza her is the best in town. This has to be the flagship location for this chain. Located in historic Avondale, it brings a breath of fresh air to the area. Modern decor for any restaurant, let along a pizza joint. The food is fresh and delicious. Enjoy the large variety of local brews on tap as well. They also have a couch area, where I promptly beat my husband in Connect Four. Definitely give this cool place a try!

I enjoy Mellow Mushroom. They have a good Happy Hour. The food and service is consistently good. And this particular location is in my opinion the best one they have in Jacksonville as far as layout and aesthetics go. While parking can be a pain in this area of town, MM does have their own little parking lot right behind the build for customers only so always check that out first. Check-in offer is currently 10% off your bill.

So I've been to this mellow mushroom location a bunch of times now and a review is overdue. I have never had any problems with the service--everyone has always been very friendly and helpful, both waitstaff and bartenders. Food usually comes out in a pretty timely manner as well. I love the pizza--especially the one loaded with mushrooms, it's my favorite. Build your own salads are also awesome. I always put fresh mozzy cheese and meatballs on top and lots of veggies. Awesome beer selection and mixed drinks too. Overall mellow is really good--not a 5 star place (I reserve 5 stars for the places that really go above and beyond), but on my regular rotation. Plus, 10% off with yelp check in is awesome!

Located in the Avondale area, Mellow Mushroom is surrounded by fancy shops and cafes. They have a small parking lot in the back and some side spots. Good luck trying to find parking on the weekend. Environment is cool, place is huge. Love the VIP seating on the fire truck. Great bar and chill out areas on the open-windowed patio. Restrooms are pretty clean. Food is 50/50 for me, as well as the service. Servers are more on-point on weekday afternoons than the weekends. Weekends..pretty slow. You have to be on them for entrees and drink refills. Menu is for the twenty-something pretentious hipster boheme yogi who may or may smoke pot. Seriously, hummus? Desert menu is slim to none. Good thing Yobe and Peterbrooke is across the street. Honestly, this MM is okay. Just, okay.

Ahhhhhhhh The Mellow. Better yet....The Mellow in Avondale. It's hip, sheik, ultramodern, and downright beautiful. This has fast become the late night after-work Sunday dinner spot for my friends and I. There isnt even a question of where we're eating anymore...more like "See you at The Mellow." Collectively we've pretty much wined and dined our way through the nooks and crannies of Jacksonville, so the fact that this joint has us on lock for Sunday dinner says plenty. The Drunken Fun Guys. GET THESE. I'm not a mustard fan, so I dive straight into both the beer cheese and marinara, which is fine with my friends because...well...they're mustard fans. I could devour a plate of these on my own, easy, but when in the company of others, I always bring my "I dont want to look like a total heifer" mentality. Willpower....I hate it. Fab Fave Pizza: Hands down the Red Skin Potato Pie. I can't order anything else. YES, I know how diverse the menu is with the build your own calzones, pizzas, salads, blah blah. I don't even bother with the menu anymore. Red Potato, Applewood smoked bacon.....Applewood smoked bacon.....Applew....OH...sorry, I was starting to drool. Caramelized onions, cheeses, chives, and drizzled with sour cream and spicy ranch. Now...I'm a pizza dipper, so I get the ranch on the side. But this pizza from first bite has become a permanent fixture in my "food of the Gods" category. And yes....the leftovers...if any, are even better the next day. Service: No complaints here, and we've been served from both the bar and wait staff. Whether we have a group of four or a gathering of ten or more, we've always been well taken care of from start to finish. For me, this particular location hits on all points. Atmosphere, menu (yes, they have a gluten free menu as well) , service, full bar, and it's a LOCAL business in my favorite part of Jacksonville. To all my Yeeps out there, it's SO good to be back, I've missed you all! See you at The Mellow!

Avondale's mellow mushroom is a fun spot in my neighborhood and I frequent it often. The food is always delivered in a timely manner, the bartenders and the servers are friendly, and the beer list is long. The food is good. The jerk wings are a favorite of mine, as are the various subs they feature. The pizza is good. They have just about any topping you can imagine. Many of the good games are shown on the weekends, and it is fun to hang out there. They did a great job of integrating the look and feel of The Shoppes into their design and it is quite a beautiful establishment. I will be honest, as someone who lives in Avondale, part of me was a little put off when the business first moved in the area-not because of the food, but because the business they brought in totally ruined living directly behind the shops for me. After they opened, the huge influx of people that began parking in front of my house and loudly waking me up with their craziness late at night was incredibly annoying. One MM server used to park directly in front of my house so close to my driveway I could barely get my car out, and it would be there until the wee hours of the morning. We would have to make sure that we put one of our cars in front of our house during the weekends and dinner hours so that nobody would block our driveway. The mellow mushroom can hold a lot of people, but their parking lot holds a minimal amount of cars, and this neighborhood isn't really designed for all that. After they opened, living on Riverside behind them was no longer fun. We bought a home further from the shoppes. I can now enjoy their pizza without seeing red over the visitors and employees who would block my driveway. This annoyance is really something only close residents have to deal with, and I imagine it is of little consequence to most visitors. I do think this is one of the best mellow mushrooms I have visited. It rises to the occasion in service and food quality, and is worth a visit.

I went to Mellow Mushroom for the first time ever yesterday. It's located in chic Avondale. As soon as I walked in, I was thoroughly impressed by the decor. It looked very updated and clean. I had called in my order ahead of time so when I walked in, a worker directed me to where I could pay for it and pick it up. I did and also got a super delicious looking chocolate chip cookie. After I got my pizza, I checked in on Yelp while I was already in my car. I then saw that I could get a discount on my order. I checked the receipt to see if it was worth it but it turns out I was never given one. I went back in to let them know I didn't get a receipt and asked if I could still get a discount and they were super nice about it and refunded me the difference. The Holy Shiitake pizza was a small pie with 4 large slices. It's a good size to share with two people. It was so delicious. Perfect for vegetarians! I definitely recommend this place for the customer service and deliciousness.

Horrible service! I went at lunch today and had to go to the hostess desk to get a server! She came over brought me a tea and 15 minutes later I walked out! She never came back for my order! I have never had service that bad anywhere!
