Food Suggestions to Maintain Cholesterol Level at Johnny Rockets
Went for lunch- they brought me whys they wanted how they wanted. I ordered a grilled veggie salad, no mushrooms no cheese. I got extra cheese and mushrooms. The waitress said - oh sorry. Hubby's was great. Service is lacking and doesn't seem as clean as before ****My daughter loves this place for the atmosphere and my husband likes it for the breakfast. It has a neat vibe with old movies playing, brat pack, 60's or 50's music and great movie and music memorabilia. Milk shakes are huge and fresh.

Food was ok. Nothing special. Cool atmosphere, but bad service. The woman at the front looked angry and unapproachable and our waiter was more interested in eating fries than taking our order.

The exterior does not reflect the interior but it was a nice surprise inside. 50s theme diner with pictures and music to go along. When we first walked in, the sign said seat yourself so we did. But I got an uneasy feeling because for a diner I expected an friendly and happy atmosphere. There was no greetings at the door or interaction with an employee for 3-5 minutes after sitting down. When a guy did come around it was to offer us a different table. After what I guess what acknowledgment of existing, service got better. Keeping in mind most reviews said on weekends it is packed, this Sunday morning was not. The food was more than I expected, at least the omelet was alot. I most likely will not go back.. but its worth a 1st try to anyone interested

A wonderful family owned restaurant serving delicious food... I love the fun atmosphere and the staff is extremely friendly. We went for breakfast and had the Banana and Strawberry French toast and the Belgian waffle. Both were so delicious! The coffee is good and strong. Prices are very reasonable. We will definitely come back.

Finally I can add a positive breakfast review! Went in during their prime time - Sunday 11:30 a.m. Place is small, clean with every inch of the place full of late 50's and 60's memorabilia as well as furniture and most fixtures. A bit contrived and sorta forced but interesting nonetheless. Sat at breakfast bar and had a good amount of space. Staff works hard and was attentive. Menu delivered in about 5 minutes with an unneeded apology for that, order taken 5 minutes and food served nice and hot in 20 minutes or a little more, but it is Sunday brunch so no problem. I ordered the Ritchie Cunningham & with a bold name like that expectations were highly. The Ritchie really delivered! Longest strips of not overly greesy bacon, well prepared scrambled eggs - fluffy, juicy but not watery, average short stack pancakes and large portion of home fries that were soft inside and crisp outside. Bill was delivered while i was eating, paid and change delivered before i was done. Perfect! Thank you! Only knock would be i wish they payed something other then Frankie Vallie over and over, can only take a song or two of his high pitched squealing. Why can't other breakfast places in Jax be like this! Especially the Deerwood Diner - avoid! Thank you Johnny Angel's!

First of all, keep in mind something coming here.... it's a 50's themed diner. That being said, you're going to have to expect actual diner food. A lot of it is really heavy and can end up on the greasy side. The decor of the place looks like a 50's time capsule blew up. Not a bad thing! If you're into that period, you're going to have a great time looking around. Photos, signs, ads, even the color combination fit right in. The food menu is entirely themed as well, with even the most traditional dishes having a 50's moniker attached. Be warned if you plan on going on the weekend for breakfast, it gets PACKED!!!! Besides that, I've never had a wait for a table or long wait for my food. Most dishes are pretty straightforward with little to no ingenuity. Again, this is a classic diner. If you're looking for something new and groundbreaking for your taste-buds, go somewhere else and pay twice as much. I will say that if you see a special on their dry-erase board near the entrance, go for it. That's where you'll find something different which is usually a delightful surprise (such as Cap'n Crunch French Toast or a breakfast flatbread). The staff is mostly friendly and attentive, but again, if you're there during peak breakfast hours on a weekend, you're going to have to expect what comes along with it.

I have driven past by this place many times, and seen many coupons for this place. One day I saw a coupon saying 'BEST BURGERS IN JAX', so I thought why not? I finally decided to come in and experience what this place has to offer. As I first exited the car from the parking lot I heard a lot of bickering coming from the front of this restaurant. After paying attention a little closely I noticed that an employee was arguing about the use of cellphone over lunch with her friend and her friends boyfriend. I know she was an employee because she had an apron on, and was wearing their uniform.. Plus later on she waited the table next to us.. Anyways bad first impression. I mean come on! If you are wearing a uniform for the place and arguing with others please take the argument elsewhere not in front of the restaurants entrance! The exterior of the place did not seem like it was a 50's diner, however once you entered you have been time warped back to the 50's. It's a cute decor, and it even has its own jukebox! Waiters here were very nice and helpful (even the one arguing outside). I ordered their leverne and shirley burger. Presentation looked good, but it was tasteless, VERY greasy, and the fries that came with it was undercooked and tasted like those fries you buy at the grocery stores. I am 100% sure that their burgers are pre-made frozen patties.. Sure does tastes like it.. My partner also had the burger (just another type), and he said the same exact thing about the burgers and the fries. Would I recommend this place to anyone? Yes and no. I only had the burgers here, so I am not sure about the other meals. I gave it a two star only because it has a cute decor, and the waiter was very friendly, and was always smiling.

This is an awesome diner that's all 50's inspired! I mean every inch of this place is plastered with 50's decor, pictures, signs, even the colors. They even have a jukebox, and when we went in to eat lunch there for the first time today, they were even playing an old black and white movie on the flat screen t.v., the only thing that was visually modern...LOL! The food was great, we didn't have any issues with greasy food, as some people mentioned in other reviews, and we were seated as soon as we walked in which I found great, since it is Saturday and when we walked in it seamed to be packed, but we had no wait as some other reviewers said. The best part was the root beer float we split, thank goodness we did it was huge and came with a small cup of extra root beer on the side to add in as you went. It was one of the best root beer floats I've had and that's saying a lot because I love root beer and not many people can make a good root beer float!

This place is so much fun! I love coming here with a group of friends for a classic diner experience. I was feeling breakfast for dinner so I had the corned beef hash with eggs and it was just what it should be, a little crisp and nice and salty. The first night I tried the place it happened to be karaoke night and it wasn't obnious, the people were really good! Will be back - nice waitress, good food, and cool atmosphere!

You know that after thanksgiving nap you get when you are filled to brim with holiday goodies? Yeah. That's exactly what happened after I ate here. I fell asleep and didn't wake up until 3 hours later. Hahaha. The food is not all that great (I ordered a chili burger static.px.yelp.com/bphot… and the meat wasn't high quality meat), but their chocolate malt milkshake static.px.yelp.com/bphot… was DeeeLiciOusss.... I might come back again and order something different, however. The decor and surroundings really take you back in time to the 50's (complete with a jukebox and reruns of the 3 stooges). Next time I'll come wearing a poodle skirt or something.

Very good food and service ... Very friendly service, fod prepared a special way as i requested. Yes, food arrival was slow, but when its as I special requested, slow is not a big problem ... Getting it RIGHT is higher priority. Plus ... It was Sunday peak time on lavor day weekend.

we went for the first time for their bike nite. Hopefully the cold weather was keeping everyone home. There was a total of 6 bikes. The restaurant was well designed and is clean and interesting. My burger and chhese fries were great as were the onion rings. My husband had an omelet with potatoes which was also very good. They have a nice selection on the menu. We'll be back

Only had a malted milkshake here but it took a very long time though I was the only person at the counter. It was over five dollars and was not large or fabulous to justify the price.

Delicious place, fun ambiance! There was kind of a wait when we went, but it didn't take long for the food to come and it was great. I had the James Dean burger and it was one of the best burgers I've had in awhile. My boyfriend had a breakfast plate and enjoyed it as well. Large portions as well! Well def be going back

Pretty good and well priced. I love their philly omelette! But nothing super special to write home about. The atmosphere is pretty cool with all the 50's inspired stuff, which is different and cool!

I had great service here...not a lot of fuss not even super warm or friendly but the staff works well together to bring you what you want and need before you know you need it. I didn't have to ask for anything at all, it just appeared. DELICIOUS breakfast! Belgian waffle was fluffy and crunchy, French toast was off the chain and Dixieland skillet was yummy too... Bacon cooked to perfection. Reasonably priced without a lot of fuss.... New favorite breakfast joint... P.S. don't order the cheesefries... They are kinda yuck.

I have to admit, this place is close to my neighborhood and I had never heard of it before they were a featured deal on Groupon. We decided to give it try this afternoon and took our son and my husband's parents out for lunch. The restaurant looked pretty clean and since we were a larger group, we had to sit in the back so we had adequate room. We were by the jukebox which was, fortunately, playing at a very nice level. They have quite the selection of fancy burgers and platters. I went for the club sandwich which was so huge, I had to send half of it home with my father-in-law. :) The crinkle fries left a little to be desired and weren't salty at all. My son ordered cheese fries with his Volcano Burger and didn't get them, but as far as I could tell, we weren't charged for them, either. We discussed amongst ourselves who had the better burger, this place or Five Guys and everyone agreed that Five Guys was better but since this is more of a sit-down and enjoy place, we agreed we would come back. Now onto the giant milkshakes. My husband and son just had to order one each. My husband got a strawberry cheesecake one and my son got a peanut butter cheesecake one. They were each very delicious. We also had homemade cherry cokes which were heavy on the cherry, which is always nice to me!

I really wanted to love this place and came in with high expectations as a coworker of mine old me about it and he has never been wrong but this was a bad visit. First my family and I came in for lunch at 11 am on Saturday it wasn't overly busy but we had to wait at least 10 minutes just for our order to be taken and then it seemed another 25 to 30 for our order to arrive. With 2 young kids this was far from ideal. When the food finally did come my wife was not impressed with her burger seemed like cheap meat and cheap bakery bun , the fries were over salted my sandwich was the oh Donna seemed okay but was greasy also was my wife's burger. Cooks you should let the grease drain! About 2 hours later I cod feel a pain in my gut and it was from the lunch. Needless to say we had a horrible first impression And will not return.

Had a delicious breakfast here! The group I dined with ordered a little bit of everything from the menu and the food just kept getting better. The malts are awesome as well as the burgers. The portions were very large and not highly priced. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for comfort food!

I've been here a total of three times on our first visit had a hamburger which was pretty average, second time had a different burger and a shake the shake was awesome but the burger was under salted and the chili wasn't great and on our last visit we went for dinner had the pot roast with veggies meat was super salty and my vegetables were burnt it was disappointing. I wanted to give them a chance but they weren't consistently good in any way. I live the decor but wish the food was better

I didn't feel welcome or appreciated here but the breakfast was amazing, darn it. I begrudgingly admit I would come back. I can overlook the tables being too short and too far from the seats and the grumpy owner because the food really was that good.

Our awful experience. My letter to thier management: My family and I walked in approximately 7pm yesterday evening, 8/1 to walk into what we expected to be a beautiful and welcoming diner....NOT the case at all. I have never written anybody negative feedback but I was and still am so upset, that I feel someone should be made aware. A party of 6 walks into the door and immediately felt unwelcome when all eyes were on us without a hello. The waitress had an attitude that reflected in her body language and rolling of eyes, diverted us from where we were about to sit up front to seat us in the back of the diner. The man behind the bar that looks like he just got released from jail had the attitude to go with it; not a hello, not a smile...just hunched over the bar top watching us. I then caught the two make eyes with each other as if it was an issue that we were even there; as if we interrupted something or that they just hated their jobs. Each of us in my party got the immediate feeling we were not welcome. As we went to sit down, the waitress comes back there; still no hello, and says with an attitude "is this all?" At that point I had to bite my tongue and gathered everyone to leave. That same night I ranted on my network sites about our awful experience and wrote a detailed review of our first and last experience at your diner and wrote a rave review of the other location we chose to dine at that welcomed us as all business should. I hope you have enough business, because you just lost potentially great customers w/ many great connections. Thank your staff for that. Also note there was no music playing in the diner when we walked in as stated there would be on your website. We certainly did feel we were "transported back in time"... but to a time of racism. Not the feeling I expected nor want to ever feel again. Please work with your staff as nobody should ever receive that type of treatment going forward.

I only give Johnny Angels's 2 stars because of my experience. The decor is delightful and the staff friendly and helpful. From the minute we walked in it is just LOUD. The juke box is over powering if you are in the back by it. AND the exhaust system makes the whole place feel as if it is sitting on a jet engine getting ready to take off. Between the noise and the vibration I actually felt sick to my stomach by the time I ordered. As for ordering, I had the two egg breakfast plate with bacon, grits and an English muffin. My eggs were cooked to a perfect over medium. The bacon they served was undercooked (not crisp) and chewy at the same time? SALTY!! Couldn't eat it. My grits were grits, came to me warm, not hot and in desperate need of some of that salt that was on the bacon! My English muffin had been grill top fried with butter and a bacon press, I can only imagine, since it was as flat and crispy as it could be. Maybe some folks like that but this was not a good brunch for me since all I really wanted was the bacon and a normally cooked English muffin in the first place. My BF on the other hand ordered the Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich and it was almost perfection. Other than being a little thin for a cheese steak, the meat was seasoned nicely and the cheese melted thru and thru instead of just being thrown on top. This is one sandwich I did steal a few bites of!

I've only been here once, and I've been planning to go again. Their food is just what you'd expect from an establishment like this. Diner food. Their sandwiches were very good. The decor also fits their theme. I love the Jukebox in the back. Nothing bad to say about this place for my first time.

We used our Groupon today and were thoroughly satisfied. We were in a large group but were accommodated nicely. I got one of the breakfast specials (sausage wrapped in pancakes topped with walnuts, chocolate sauce and powdered sugar). It was amazing. My husband got the patty melt and he really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was neato and the jukebox was good background music but not intrusive at all. All in all we had a great experience and will definitely be going back.

The decor of the place draws you in. If you grew up on the 50s, you may get nostalgic. I ordered a cheese burger and fries. The burger was okay, but it could have been thicker and juicier with more flavor. The bread tasted like it was a few days old and was dry. The fries tasted like ore Ida frozen fries. I was hoping for hot and crispy ones. Finally, for a mediocre burger, it was overpriced. For a basic burger, the cost was $7. This could be spent elsewhere for a better tasting burger. The server was very attentive and sent us on our way with to-go drinks.

We eat breakfast at Johnny's quit often and we love the food, the friendly staff and the 50's feel of the place. We have also eaten lunch and dinner there and have never had anything to complain about. I love the music playing on the juke box it reminds me of my younger years. Just a great place to kick back and enjoy friends and have a great meal.

Love going to the diner! Johnny Angel's is perfect any time of day...breakfast, lunch, or dinner! Food is always good, and service is always with a smile. The atmosphere is great for making you feel like you stepped into a time machine, love the decor!

I love an old school diner, and that is exactly what Johnny Angels is! I had the Reuben sandwich, pasta salad, and a milkshake. The Reuben was stuffed with meat and served on thick slices of rye bread with a fantastic sauce. BOTTOM LINE: Great old school diner!

3 1/2 stars Love the atmosphere here. It's like stepping back in time and walking into a 50s diner. Looking at all the memorabilia is pretty cool; it's almost impossible to take it all in. They had a TV playing old episodes of The Three Stooges. I hope I don't upset any of you fans, but I absolutely abhor The Three Stooges. I'm extremely happy they didn't have the volume going or I might have walked out before I ever ordered. LOL It's very clean and inviting. Our waiter was absolutely wonderful. He was very attentive, although not overly so. I hadn't eaten in a while and was a couple of hours late taking my insulin. I informed him of this and he must have relayed the message to the cook because our food came out very quickly. Hubby and I shared the club sandwich and fries. The sandwich was huge and it was more than enough for both of us. I wasn't really impressed with the fries and didn't eat very many of them, but I have to say the club sandwich was the best one I have had in quite some time. I'll return in the future just for that club sandwich alone.

Cute Diner experience. Veggie burger is a falafel on a bun. Tasty. Could've used more than three mushrooms on it but it was good. Service was pleasant. The teenagers I brought wolfed down their burgers so I'm guessing they had no complaints. Better than fast food.

Great food a fun atmosphere. The food was fresh and fast to get to our table, I had the fish dinner that was on special. I would recommend it and it helps that most places that offer this get their fresh fish here in Jax. So, I would say that if you like fun, diner style food. Come and enjoy.

For our next review it brought us to Johnny Angel's. We received a few suggestions from people to check this place and their burger. Before we go into the burger just let me tell you that this is a place to see. I felt like going back into a time warp into the 'Back to the Future' and showing up into the 50's. I love that. The entire atmosphere in there was very entertaining. But enough of the hype going into the real reason why we were there. They have a nice selection of burgers, from your James Dean to your Atomic burger. I picked the Heavy Chevy which comes with chili which is also a challenge by itself for restaurants to make enjoyable to eat. Anyway, here is what was served as the Heavy Chevy as the presentation. Before I get into the specifics let me just mention that we also ordered the onion rings which I'm a huge fan off, if they are done correctly. Believe me, there are many restaurants that can't make onion rings or even french fries correctly and in other words are shyte. I have to say, they probably made the best onion rings I have had so far. They were awesome, huge, perfectly cooked, tasty, so worth getting. But enough of that, lets look at the burger. The burger was perfectly cooked how I ordered it. The chili on top was by the best alright. I spent many years in Texas and got spoiled for having awesome chili. So in this case, wish it would have been better. Actually I have to say that the burger was good, but not where I would go, out of the ordinary. I felt that it lacked a lot of seasonings in the meat. Even the chili was kinda of blahhh. Was OK, not bad, but was missing something, if you know what I mean. Same for the burger, it was OK. Now, if you take this burger with the combination of the atmosphere, the fries and the onion rings. Sure, I would order it again. Great place to hang out and enjoy the surroundings. But because we are doing a burger review here. Would I come here just for this burger, sadly I would have to say no. I know my partner in crime has a bit of a different view on his burger that he received and his review is coming next. Please visit our burger review blog to see our other reviews of burger places in Jacksonville. burgergeeks.blogspot.com Please let us know if you have any suggestions for places to review their burgers. Diners are where it's at. A good place to Go an enjoy with friends, family or even strangers. The food was delicious. I had the "Love Me Tender" chicken platter, which was off the chain! My husband had the "Johnny's Angels Breakfast" with extra cheesy grits which he says gave him a "good baby" cause he couldn't stop eating it. The cream soda and root ever float were excellent too. The atmosphere was so unique. I love all things 50's so this place was on point. We went on a Saturday night when they had karaoke. Which was a little loud but not bothersome. I highly recommend it!

I love the theme of this place! It's all oldies, like Elvis, James Dean, Marilyn and Audrey. The first time I was there was back during the holidays and they wad A Wonderful Life playing on the tvs. There's a ton of oldies inspired trinkets you can purchase as well. As far as the food goes, I have loved it all. Although I have only eaten breakfast items. But I'm sure the rest of the menu is just as delicious. It is diner food, but I think they just seem to do it better than a typical diner. And the items are named after old time favorites....i.e. a breakfast called The Richie Cunningham ;)

Nice little diner near UNF. Throwback to the 50s era, with very nice shakes and food. You have to try and you will be back for more.

We swear we didn't want food when we first walked in. Just wanted a peek at the menu. Pretty cool place of ordered confusion. Found myself starring at the walls at all the interesting items. Even areas that looked extremely dusty - like someone had opened up a time capsule and let us walk in. And I wondered how long those dusty looking shirts hand been hanging on the wall. Saturday morning was winding down and grey clouds were coming in so we ordered milk shakes. Servers inside were extremely friendly and exceptionally helpful in choosing the cherry milkshake. (But the ones that were on break/leaving when we entered :-( (Loitered outside smoking near the door were unprofessional. They should at least cover up their shirts when they clock out. Those shirts are walking advertisements. This is why we were not really up for eating when first venturing in.) After scanning the place we ended up ordering burgers and sandwiches. He had a huge Joey burger with onion rings. But said he would have enjoyed something from Steak n Shake better. I had the CowardlyLion - and that punk was nasty. A dry chicken salad on heavily buttered Texas toast. Not mouthwatering just artery filling. And I foolishly had the super chunky nasty potato salad to go along with it.. Thankfully we took the food to go so I dug into my kitchen cabinets and doctored it up as much as I could. Memorabilia is cool but this is more milkshake Heaven then a "quality" diner I'd felt fine paying $5+ for the thick and creamy flavorful milkshake - food was a waste though ...flashbacks of Pulp Fiction ... but I'm still open to try them for breakfast.

Today was my first time at this restaurant. Our server Rob was so nice and funny and most importantly attentive! As first time customers he explained the restaurant's history and gave us some recommendations on their best and most popular items. I got the Blue Moon burger and my husband got the chicken salad sandwich. Our food was delicious, perfectly cooked burger that was very juicy. My husband loves the chicken salad, he said it's the best he's found in Jacksonville. Our server gave us free brownies and ice cream for dessert- it was so yummy! We will definitely be back and would recommend you try this place out!

I brought a group of friends here for breakfast on a Sunday. The place was very helpful and accommodating. I called a week in advance to let them know we would be coming. I have dined here many a time and I know the place is not real big. I got there early as the help save the tables. It worked out great. I ordered the buffalo chicken strips and waffles, which is my favorite. Everyone in our group left full and happy. I love the decorations and vintage stuff all around. You must try a milkshake when you go, but it does cost $5.00. I think that is a bit steep for my budget, but still worth trying. Every meal I get here is delicious. The location is hidden behind Winn Dixie that is on Beach Blvd. And St. John's Bluff. I know they have different fun activities different nights of the week. Don't forget to sign up on their website to become a member. You will recurve a postcard in the mail for your anniversary and for your birthday for a "free entree", which I think is VERY generous. Let me know what you think when you go. The waitress was excellent. She made sure we had everything we needed.

I loved my strawberry banana french toast combo breakfast at Johnny Angel's- they offer turkey sausage! Awesome, because I'm pork intolerant. Unfortunately, my husband didn't have as great of an experience... long story short, order whatever you want, but be wary of things with sauce. My husband ordered and ate the Salem's eggs benedict, and started feeling ill shortly after we got back on the road. He ended up puking in a mall parking lot, where a kind passer by offered him some water and asked what ailed him. When he said he'd eaten eggs benedict at Johnny Angel's, the person nodded knowingly and said a lot of people have been known to get sick from various sauces there. I also saw the bus guy cough on his hands and continue to do his work. Not the greatest health code enforcement, perhaps? Definitely a 50s diner vibe, and food with grease to spare, which is kind of a soft spot for me. If the bad memory for the hub fades... I'd like to go back, try other stuff (maybe lunch this time?), and update.

My family and I went here for dinner and this place is great. The decor is 1950 -1960 jukebox in the corner with a sock hop music playing all the time. They had old black and white movies playing throughout the restaurant which was fun for my daughters to see. The food was great and the service was outstanding. This is a great place to take your family.

Pretty good. Homemade stuff, didn't find anything premade. Super friendly staff. Chili burger was damn good, homemade chili at a restaurant these days seems rare. 9/10 would go again.

My goodness delicious All-American Burger! I was there for on a Friday night for work. Dancing and a band playing. The food smelled and tasted fabulous. Loved the atmosphere. The pasta salad I had was so good and the owner said they homemake it. Loved it! The great part about their menu is breakfast all day. Can't wait to go back.

Awesome environment, my favorite '50s diner to which I've been. The waitstaff is nice and the owner is very involved with the customers, always making sure everything is alright. The food is pretty good, essentially the kind of American food one would expect from such a diner. I've never liked milkshakes before but the one I get here(peanut butter/mocha blend) is PHENOMENAL. I always love coming back and when I show off Jacksonville to my out-of-town friends, this is always one of my stops.

We ordered Delivery and the food was Incredibly Fresh. The French Dip was amazing.. The Au jus was HOT and Relay good. The Ruben was big enough i could only eat half and i am a big eater. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

So my daughter, Jennifer and I, are on a journey to find good eating spots in the Jacksonville area. Today we found Johny Angel's and we definitely will be returning. If you like the 50's and diners, this is the place to be. All that was missing were the poodle skirts and roller skates. The food was great and the staff and owners were very friendly. One good indication that a restaurant is good is if its full, well it was packed! I had the "All American" burger with fries and although I'm was not born in the 50's the burger and the ambiance, certainly brought back good memories. Lastly, try the Root Beer Float. But I warn you, if you don't have a big appetite, split it with your friends...but don't past it up. It was delicious! Enjoy!

I love this place! They have really good shakes and burgers but sometimes the service can be a hit or miss. If you want to go to a place that has a fun theme and good burgers and shakes this would be the one :)

If you are a gluten free eater this place is not for you. I ordered the Greek salad with grilled chicken (should be fine). Now my mouth is numb and I am getting pains in my side. The olive oil dressing had a blue tint to it? Our waiter was strange too. The concept and decor are great. This should be a pretty attractive place for people who grew up in the 1950s and anyone who wants that style food. Unfortunately for me something I ate was tainted. I will not return. Sad.

Good Food ~ Fun Atmosphere ~ Slow Service. Seem like the kitchen can't keep up with order over lunch rush, which make wait staff look bad.

I've had nothing but good food at this diner. Their breakfast is great and their burger selection is very nice. The comet is a stand out as it is a burger with home made baked Mac and cheese on it (even bread crumbs) and is delicious. Their sandwiches are very good but my the wife and I love the Route 66 which has some very awesome Peruvian sauce on not that really makes the sandwich. Atmosphere is very nice and has many call backs to yesteryear. From Elvis to Betty Boop to even little touches like their first dollar having Lucy and Ricky Ricardo on it, the diner exudes style. They have trivia some nights with one of the local news anchors hosting it that makes for an enjoyable evening if you have knowledge of the 50's and 60's and can compete. Bathroom Breakdown - bathrooms are nice and clean and reflect the decor of the diner. It's a very nice touch to have James Dean watch over you while you wash your hands. This is only a one person bathroom but it is adequate for the size of the establishment. Synopsis - This place is awesome! Give it a try! Especially the Captain Crunch French Toast.

I like the atmosphere and food! Their corn beef and hash is yummy! Not that dog food kind of stuff if you have ever ordered that at other places. Waffles and bacon is my favorite

I don't ask much of a 50s style diner. I expect serviceable hamburgers, good shakes, and a functioning jukebox, all of which were provided at Johnny Angel's. However, that's about all I can really say about this decent but forgettable lunch spot. The burgers were clearly frozen, though admittedly cooked well, if a little bland. The fries were standard unsalted crinkle-cut potatoes, much like you'd find in your old high school cafeteria. The chocolate milkshake and chocolate malt were both great, so if nothing else, I can happily recommend those. Fair warning: The photos on the menu do not necessarily represent the food that will arrive at your table! The atmosphere is fairly questionable - the 50s theme begins and ends with the generic posters on the walls, and the hulking unused jukebox in the back. The booths and tables are old, beat up, and stained. The servers, managers, and waitstaff have clearly stopped trying, and their boredom shows in both attitude and appearance. Cooks mumble questions to diners as they pull dirty dishes from the tables, aprons loose and untied. Servers gossip audibly around the registers, making evening plans instead of checking on tables. An air of depression and hopelessness hangs over the entire dining room. Overall, I'm not sure that I plan on returning. If you're going to bill yourself as an authentic 50s diner, you need to at least be better than Johnny Rockets, and Angel's can't even promise that.

I ordered the Dixieland Skillet today. I love decadent meals....but I fear the south may have gone too far. It was two Biscuits cut in half (soft, a little crispy on the edges) topped with scrambled eggs, cheese, sausage gravy, and country potatoes. Luckily I do not have a heart condition, because I washed it down with a peanut butter-chocolate milkshake. The greatest risk in my dining experience is that I KNOW THAT I WILL DO THIS AGAIN SOON, but eh.......you only live once.

The food was great. My daughter and I almost walked out after waiting a very long time but the waitress showed up finally and we ordered. Tables that came in after us were getting served before us. We also didn't see out server again until the very end. If you can stand to wait hungry then by all means try it out, I didn't order anything fun like a shake since I didn't want to wait forever for that either. Probably wont go back just due to the waiting and service experience.

Great diner food! Breakfast, burgers, Reuben's , floats-what's not to love?? Friendly service - owner came by table to check on us- when does that happen anymore??? A+...now bring one to Orlando!

Just go.... for the nostalgia, the burger with mac-n-cheese, the chili, and the MALTS & SHAKES!!! ... and don't forget to pop a coin in the jukebox!! Waitstaff has always great. Restaurant is always clean. Plus they have antique car shows every now and then (I don't remember exactly when), but my friend brought his car out there and had a blast!

(3)Jessica M.
Food was ok. Nothing special. Cool atmosphere, but bad service. The woman at the front looked angry and unapproachable and our waiter was more interested in eating fries than taking our order.
(3)Becky H.
(3)Ariel T.

(5)Randall E.

Cool '50's atmosphere, very good food, excellent service. Try it. You'll like it.

Great breakfast! Lots of food with homemade taste! Recommend the corn beef hash and chicken fried steak.

(2)Jennifer G.
(5)Brentley S.
(4)Julie A.
(3)Ramiro C.
The food was not worth the wait time for a table...sorry folks.
(2)Robert L.
Very good food and service ... Very friendly service, fod prepared a special way as i requested. Yes, food arrival was slow, but when its as I special requested, slow is not a big problem ... Getting it RIGHT is higher priority. Plus ... It was Sunday peak time on lavor day weekend.
(5)Francie R.
Food was not good at all! Service was alright compared to the food. We won't be returning!
(1)Kimber L.
we went for the first time for their bike nite. We'll be back
(5)Amber A.
Only had a malted milkshake here but it took a very long time though I was the only person at the counter. It was over five dollars and was not large or fabulous to justify the price.
(3)Sarah S.
Well def be going back
(5)Sara L.
Pretty good and well priced. I love their philly omelette! But nothing super special to write home about. The atmosphere is pretty cool with all the 50's inspired stuff, which is different and cool!
(4)Gerald L.
(4)Hecate D.
(3)Jeremy F.
(2)Kate B.
Had a delicious breakfast here! The group I dined with ordered a little bit of everything from the menu and the food just kept getting better. The malts are awesome as well as the burgers. The portions were very large and not highly priced. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for comfort food!
(4)Gloria P.
(2)Cowboy B.
I didn't feel welcome or appreciated here but the breakfast was amazing, darn it. I begrudgingly admit I would come back. I can overlook the tables being too short and too far from the seats and the grumpy owner because the food really was that good.
(4)Genesis C.
(1)Connie W.
(2)Scott And Beth M.
Love this place! Good food. Good people! Atmosphere is awesome! Clean. We go here almost every week. - Very friendly with a personal touch!! - You can even order lunch and dinner items during breakfast times - Sometimes I like to have a hamburger for breakfast :) - Scott & Beth
(4)Quyen H.
I've only been here once, and I've been planning to go again. Their food is just what you'd expect from an establishment like this. Diner food. Their sandwiches were very good. The decor also fits their theme. I love the Jukebox in the back. Nothing bad to say about this place for my first time.
(4)Elizabeth L.
(4)Heather Z.
Great breakfast!!! Friendly waitresses & owner. However, if you're trying to eat a low-cal, boring I mean non-fat breakfast, ;) it probably won't be the place for you.
(4)Maris R.
Great diner food!
(5)Lori E.
(2)Donald W.
(5)Lili C.
The absolute best ever Patty Melt. This place is clean and the food is excellent. They give you large quantities. I will be going back the next time I am in town.
(5)Leslie B.
Really yummy breakfast! Fast and friendly service too. Was seated and eating within 10 minutes! My coffee cup never sat less than half full and the portions were huge! Will definitely be back. Oh!! And they had old Elvis movies on the tv :))
(4)Cristina T.
Jonny Angels offer classic American breakfast and burgers with a unique 70's style theme and decore. Service is always great and the food is outstanding.
(5)Alenna B.
Love going to the diner! Johnny Angel's is perfect any time of day...breakfast, lunch, or dinner! Food is always good, and service is always with a smile. The atmosphere is great for making you feel like you stepped into a time machine, love the decor!
(5)Matt R.
(4)Amy S.
(3)Michelle M.
Cute Diner experience. Veggie burger is a falafel on a bun. Tasty. Could've used more than three mushrooms on it but it was good. Service was pleasant. The teenagers I brought wolfed down their burgers so I'm guessing they had no complaints. Better than fast food.
(3)John M.
Great food a fun atmosphere. The food was fresh and fast to get to our table, I had the fish dinner that was on special. I would recommend it and it helps that most places that offer this get their fresh fish here in Jax. So, I would say that if you like fun, diner style food. Come and enjoy.
(4)Burger G.

Not bad typical breakfast food I had the dukes omlette. 3 stars because I felt I could make this at home better. And the coffee had a weird after taste.
