I have been coming here all of my life. They painted the dark wood in the place, white-this really brightened up the place. I am sad to say they are only open for breakfast and lunch now. They close at 2:30 now days. I was off today, so I came here with my husband, Ernie. I used the bathroom and was pleased to see it was handicapped friendly. I am not handicapped, but like that they are compliant with the state laws about this as so many places are not. The Waitress was very attentive, helpful and friendly. I will continue to come here as long as they keep putting out the great food and keep the doors open. If you like fancy, do not come here. It is just down to Earth and great food. Kudos the Famous Amos! They also have $3.99 breakfast bowls for the person on the go. Call it in and pick it up on the way to work.

I ate here on a Saturday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. They had two servers for the whole restaurant, which wasn't that busy to begin with. Apparently they were short staffed in the kitchen. I ordered a side salad and was told they didn't have any salad. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and mashed potatoes. It took 45 minutes for me to get my food. The food tasted good but it wasn't worth the time I wasted on it. I won't go back to this location.

Never knew about this place. Everytime I say the sign I just thought of the cookies that I used to enjoy as a kid. Got around some locals that schooled me about the all day breakfast joint. So had to check it out this past Saturday morning. Was completely overwhelmed by the large menu. Really huge menu. But when I saw pecan waffle with turkey sausage ... I was ready to order. The staff here is incredible friendly and sweet. These people must really enjoy their jobs or can fake it better then anyone I've come across. Gives the southern feel of Waffle House without being waffle house and real southern hospitality! I finally get it - the lighting! Unlike most places the dim lighting some how has people lounging long after they have cleared their plates. It seems to always look like 6pm inside.

I don't even know where to begin with this place. I've yet to have a bad experience here. I was once fortunate enough to get a fresh out of the oven biscuit. Oh, my goodness. So good. It's home cookin' flavor for sure, I wouldn't quite label Amos as a greasy spoon. More hearty than most greasy spoons. That being said- if you like your food light and healthy- not your spot. Good for a guilty pleasure though, their chicken and dumplings is definitely my fave so far!

Famous Amos is a staple in Jacksonville... in that greasy, not entirely clean, but tasty and so you ignore it kind of way. I have so many memories coming to this place as a child. It was one of my dad's favorite places to eat. It is a great, homecooking [more appropriately, "homecookin'"] diner that serves large portions and lots of butter! This is where I learned to love corned beef hash. Now there is nothing glamorous about corned beef hash. Ground beef and potatoes turned into some form of salty mush? And then pan fried to a crispy outer crust perfection? Definitely not fine dining, but it is amazing. And Famous Amos does it well. Other than that, the menu is pretty standard for your typical diner. Burgers, sandwiches, omelets, pancakes, etc etc etc. The atmosphere is much more homestyle than the typical diner, as well. It is really large and partitioned off by high wooden booths. It is full of warm colors. I have a soft spot in my heart for this place.

Oh, the many nights I have spent in this place after a night of heavy drinking. The grease seems to absorb the alcohol and you end up with a little less of a hangover the next day. If you can ignore the roaches climbing up the walls, the food is sorta good. Just sorta. Alot better during the day, when they have all the specials.
