Why 4 stars? Because it really hit the spot. --- --- --- I haven't dined in at Big Pete's, but we did order delivery, and I was incredibly happy. Maybe it was because a bunch of us were all running around like crazy while setting up Jacksonville's first Yelper Party, and we all really needed nourishment. Or maybe the pizza was do damn delicious, and had almost an addicting flavor to it. There was something in the cheese. I'm not sure if it was crack, but if it was, I think I now understand all of the crazies who pace up and down Nebraska Avenue in Tampa. Crack: Don't knock it 'til you try it! Big Pete's: It's like an illicit narcotic, with the only side effect being cholesterol!

This is some pretty darn good pizza, people! I mean, it's not Your Pie or Mellow Mushroom by any means, but it sure beats the heck out of your other "fast food" type pizza places. I can't stand Domino's or Papa Johns. Hubby can't either. So when we order pizza, we always get it from Pizza Hut. Well, Pizza Hut just got some serious competition after hubby and I had both the cheese and pepperoni pizza from Big Pete's tonight! The sauce isn't over-powering and there was the perfect amount. Adequate cheese and pepperoni per slice. Loved the crust. It's thin... maybe more like hand-tossed? What I loved about it was it was nice and soft (in a good way). I hate thin pizza that is crispy and crunchy. They make some really darn good crust! Yes, Pizza Hut is easier because it is just down the street. But next time we are craving pizza, I am seriously going to consider driving downtown and picking up a pie from Big Pete's! And next time we are downtown for ArtWalk or any of the other festivals, it's nice to know Big Pete's is here because we'll certainly be stopping by!

Better wings than hooters. Great pizza and awesome sweet tea. Really friendly. People. They remember your name to an the service is so fast an the foods cheap for low. Budgets. Great food. I love the mild wings with fries. 10 wings n fries on Wensday for under 9 dollars. Thank you big Pete's for great food

We tried this place because we did not realize Chomp Chomp is not open for dinner on Tuesdays, and we did not have a lot of time before a concert at the Florida Theater. The wings were bland and the pizza reminded me of the Pizza Hut personal pizza you get at some of the Target snack bars. It was relatively inexpensive (my pizza was $4.99, four wings were $3.99) and the service was good, but there is MUCH better pizza to be had a Carmine's a couple of miles away on King Street in Riverside.

I just had an excellent veggie curry pasta at Big Pete's. Fresh greens, mushrooms, jalapeños. Delicious! It was smothered in cheese, which I technically have to disapprove of, but it was great. The place is not too attractive, but the people there were super friendly and helpful. A bargain, too. I'll be back.

I had: mozzarella cheese sticks, chicken tikka wrap, and chocolate cake. Summary: open later than many downtown places, good flavors, friendly people, tasty food, not too expensive. The mozzarella cheese sticks were actually really really good! the breading tasted better than that on most cheese sticks. The chicken tikka was delicious! I do wish, though, that it didn't have cheese. It was unexpected and not in a good way. The chocolate cake (costco brand or something) was yummy!

The Below is where I was heading and his delivery driver just dropped off more Knots and Pizza is that good..Not really but, it does show effort to make it right because now I will have warmed up Pizza and Knots AGAIN, another day.. Thank you for the effort and the score went up from 1 star to 3 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ordered online they give you the option to choose your delivery time. I ordered at around 5:15 for a 6pm delivery. It is 6:25 and still not here expecting cold food. Well Showed up up at 6:30 PM and Yes it was cold....Late, Customer service when I called them was lack luster. I typically give a place 3 strikes but I was so disappointed and this is the First time that has happened, I wont order again and will stay with Moon River Pizza head and shoulders above this Yahoo's So for the 2 Pieces of Cake, Garlic Knots and Medium Pizza nearly $30 and the Pizza was wrong also. The guy that took the order said it was my Fault...REALLY? You think so...and not even an offer to make it right...Hopefully the Cake is ok? PS The Cake was DELICIOUSLY SMALL

Visited during a meal break from a conference I was attending several blocks away. The place was empty of customers when I arrived. Thankfully, the cashier/order taker was patient since I had no idea what I should order. I was using a certificate so I ordered a pizza and wings. The wings weren't special. Maybe it's because I ordered them with BBQ sauce instead of Buffalo style. The sauce was tasty but overpowering and messy. Thankfully, they have a napkin dispenser on the table since I must have gone through ten of them while eating 5 wings. The pizza was very good. The meat wasn't greasy and the crust was robust without being "thick." The sauce was a bit sweet but I like it like that. Actually, I would have loved the BBQ sauce from the chicken on the pizza instead. If I find myself in Jacksonville again, maybe I'll try that. I wish my hotel room had a refrigerator. I would have happily saved the leftovers for the next day but I didn't so I wasted quite a bit of the food. Interestingly, I walked through the Jacksonville Landing food court on the way back to the conference hotel and thought the pizza there looked pretty sickly compared to Big Pete's just two blocks away.

This will be a quick review, since it was a quick lunch. Above all else that I could see, Pete's represents value: I had two slices of pizza (pepperoni and meat lovers) and a drink for less than $5. Also convenience (it is located on Julia, near Everbank, the bus station, etc.). On the other hand, the slices I got gave me the impression they had been sitting under the hot lamp for a while. They were warm, not hot, the meat and pepperoni were a little dry. As far as taste and flavor, the pizza is not bad overall, and had it been a little fresher I would have been more impressed. I can easily imagine that they do a good job on take-out as long as they get it to you fast - it's just the lunch room needs some work. One nitpick I have: the place is self-serve, you pay at the counter and take your food to your table, you are expected to draw your own drink at the fountain and buss your trash - would you believe they have a sign on the drink dispenser: "Refills $0.50"? That seemed a little cheapskate to me. Bubbly water and corn-syrup carries huge margins to begin with. I'm sure you lose the fifty cents in labor costs if the transaction takes two-minutes, which is why the big boys (QSRs they are known as) don't fool with the second drink. Would I go again? Sure. I'll just try and be more strategic in my slice selection.

listen up you pizza yokels... I have had pizza all over the United States and although this place doesn't even come close to the places up north (Philly specifically) it is quite possibly the best pizza in Jacksonville and is the best that delivers in Jacksonville. I ordered a large pizza (one half chicken parm, other half eggplant parm) and it was pretty damn good. If you had a bad experience that call and complain because the pizza I just received only 30 minutes after calling was great. I will say the chicken was a little dry but that's what happens when you bake chicken. I'll just ask for a side of sauce next time. I also ordered the carrot cake, and I don't know where they get it but it is amazing... If you like carrot cake you would love it and if you don't like carrot cake give it a try because you will probably love this one... at the very least you'll like it.

I love pizza but this was the worst pizza that I have ever had. It was cold, cheese less and no flavor at all. Just because it was a $3.00 lunch deal does not make up for the fact that u need some antacids handy for ur upset tummy.

One of the best Pizza'a in downtown Jville, we always grab togo a large pepperoni with extra cheese. When we lived in Jacksonville, it was a once a month craving that needed satisfying. Really good crust, semi-thin. A Good Pizza has Good Crust. It's about the pizza, the wings - meh so so. Always busy at lunch during the work-week. Try it over a Domino's or a Pizza Hut once, you'll keep coming back. Don't forget the red pepper flakes to top with too.

I'm not sure who "Big Pete" is because most of the employees I've seen are around 5'6" and skinny - perhaps it's an ironic nickname. Anyway, BPB is a cheap as hell but you get what you pay for. They have a lunchtime special of two slices and a drink for around $2.99 but it's about on par with DiGiorno from the oven at home. Still, it's very fast service and a convenient location for workers in the BellSouth Tower. If you have more time available and don't mind spending a few extra bucks, just go to Nora's across the street.

Tried the chicken parm pizza and the eggplant parm pizza. Quite simply the worst pizzas I've eaten in 7-8 years. The dough tasted sweet, and had a tough gummy feel in the mouth. It wasn't crispy and soft on the inside. The chicken parm was fried up chunks of prebought fried chicken. The chicken was dried out. The eggplant parm's breading was sweet as well. Not sweet in the sense like a caramelized onion is sweet, but sweet like they added sugar to it. The sauce was unremarkable and the cheese was visibly cheap. It had separated into milk fat and oil and tasted like nothing.

Haven't yet visited their actual location on Julia Street, but I did want to comment on web ordering, delivery and the quality of the pizza. First, the web ordering works like a charm! I was a little leery of this, since it's one of those generic outsourced services and doesn't give you much feel for the actual restaurant. But the online menu is comprehensive, accurate, and even lets you specify special orders. Just to test it, I ordered a large veggie pizza and added a note to please add some pepperoni. When my two pizzas showed up, both were exactly what I expected. I added the tip to my online order, but it didn't register somehow. Delivery was quick, and the driver was friendly. So I tipped him in cash. The pizzas are very good. Maybe a bit too much crust around the circumference, but it's GOOD crust, so I won't quibble. Ingredients and sauce all seem fresh and tasty. We live in Springfield, where delivery options are perhaps not as wide-ranging as other neighborhoods. We'll be doing the online ordering from Big Pete's again.

I wandered downtown Jax around 7:30 on a Monday night and was surprised most restaurants were closed. Big Pete's was one of the few places open so I decided to take a gamble. For $5 and some change I bought a small pepperoni pizza and soda can. The pizza was decent; good crust, fresh cheese, flavorful pepperoni. The sauce was a bit too sweet for my liking but not a deal breaker. They do deliver so that's a plus.

OK I had been doing it wrong all along. I think what Big Pete might excel in is their more traditional items. I ordered a calzone last week and I was pleasantly surprised. You basically customize it with your chosen fillings to add to the mozarella and ricotta cheese. My calzone had spinach, parmesan, and tomatoes inside. I suspect the parmesan made it a tad too salty, but it was still very good. The tomatoes were juicy, the spinach was fresh. I thoroughly enjoyed every single bite! This definitely changed my opinion of this place. Maybe the third time really is a charm!

I am by no means picky when it comes to food, and I eat pretty much anything. I mean- I was the kid who ate everything that was served for school lunch in the cafeteria. This food was edible, but it got a big yawn from me. They dont offer slices of pizza in the evening, only whole pies. So my friend ordered the hamburger supreme pizza and I ordered the lasagna and a slice of cheesecake. The lasagna was $6 and it was lukewarm and very small. The pizza wasn't hot either, and it was pretty small to be a large. Didn't really taste like much either... definitely gets a "meh" from me. If I am ever in Jacksonville again I wont be back. I liked the size of the place though. It was pretty big.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
