My husband, being from Brooklyn, is somewhat of a pizza critic (the closer it tastes like a pizza from NY, the better it is) so when his friend told him about Bassil's he had to try it. We ordered an XL cheese pizza last night & gyro (I love gyros). Upon opening the box, my first thought was "Looks delicious". So I took my gyro (with feta cheese... thought it was automatic but I was told you have to ask for it) w/ fries (eh... were too soft- I like crunchiness with my fries) and a slice. Wow... that first bite of the pizza was awesome. There was a sweetness & saltiness (who doesn't love the sweet & salty thing?) that I loved. The sauce on it was perfect. My only complaint with the pizza would be that it was too soft (yes- I like crunchiness with my pizza too). Besides that, one of the best slices I've had in Jacksonville. Now the gyro... the best gyro I've ever eaten was from some restaurant in Maryland (sorry, I wish I could give credit to the place but I can't remember it right now). I was hoping that this gyro was as good if not better. Unfortunately, I have to say it wasn't. There just wasn't enough flavor. Had it not been for the feta cheese, it would've been a bust. Hopefully next time it's better... so it's good enough to try a few times but by the 3rd time if it doesn't get better, I'll stick with a couple cheese slices.

I came here with my mother for dinner and we ordered to go, this place is pricey for the type of food. 17 dollars for a Philly, canned coke and cannoli! The Philly cheese steak was alright, it was lacking flavor. My mother ordered a philly, coke and fried mushrooms, another 17 dollars. The fried mushrooms were disgusting. They were burnt, looked like they were cooked in old nasty frying oil, They were very disgusting.

Anytime I hear that a place has a gyro I instantly have to check it out. The other day my boyfriend and I gave the place a try. He was craving lasagna while I wanted a gyro. Unfortunately, we weren't entirely impressed. His lasagna was okay but he wasn't really a fan of it. His lasagna came with a large bread stick and a small salad (a very good portion of food). My gyro was okay for a fix but nothing more. The meat was good but some of it was chared on the ends. If you want a decent gyro that's nearby this place would be a good one to go too.

I had the gyro since I had seen it suggested on here. While it was OK it certainly was nothing to write home about. I would have given it three stars but the actual restaurant just seemed off. It's hard to describe but the ambiance was off-putting. I will likely order a pizza eventually for delivery and if I do I'll edit my review.

This place is more hit than miss. Usually everything is spot on, especially their pizza. Delivery comes fast and its perfect big floppy slices (tho we never seem to get extra cheese when its ordered. they are a bit light handed with that)

My wife and I have been staking this place out since we moved Jacksonville. We have always found a reason not to try them out. On this particular day she was craving pizza and we happen to be driving by , so I said "why not". We walked into the restaurants, which was mediocrely decorated by gyro pictures and other food items. This is usually a indication of good hole in the wall style pizza. (My favorite) We order a medium cheese pizza to go and waited in the dinning room. When the pizza arrived we decided to dine in, since we had extra time before our appointment. When I open the box I wasn't expressed. The pizza was flat, lack of color and no crust. It reminded me of the pizza they served at the local skating ring when I was younger. I was looking for a crust or at least a crispy bottom neither were present. My wife thought it was decent but for me it missed the mark. Friendly staff and good location but just not my style.

My and my wife go here at least once a month. I enjoy the gyro and my wife always gets the wings and shrimp combo. We have never got sick eating here. Yes the place is a little run down looking but the food tastes great.

The gyros are the best in town, more authentic than any other place I've been to around here. Being from Chicago, I've had my share of terrific gyros. This place made me feel at home! They could be a little less greasy...but..eh. They deliver but have forgotten stuff before.

Yum! Best shrimp ever! They also have pizza, wings, Italian food, sandwiches, it's all good! The owner is always there!

Go ahead and go here if you'd like a bad case of food poisoning. After my husband suffered this from eating here, we discovered that they have at least 9 critical health code violations that haven't been fixed. Avoid this place if you can. Being sanitary is NOT their first priority.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
