It's my understanding that if you review a Philly cheesesteak joint, and you're from Philly, you're supposed to state that loud and clear and include the line "I know what the real thing tastes like" or some variation. You also mention how many years you've been raised on cheesesteaks or "all my life" or ... well, you get the point. Most reviews about this place loved it or hated it. For months, I didn't go, fearing a big let down. If I fell into the "hated it" camp, then what? What was the alternative if Philly's Finest couldn't hit the mark? Finally, curiosity won me over. My wingman was also schooled in the ways of a bona fide cheesesteak. We went for lunch and put Philly's Finest to the test. And I'm pleased to say it passed ... with a B- or C. Let's go with three stars since it's Yelp. That's right. I didn't love it or hate it. I'm not a hardcore purist when it comes to cheesesteaks. I like the version where the roll is toasted in a pizza oven with provolone cheese while the steak and onions are cooking (see Conestoga Pizza). I'm also down with the Geno's style, even though it looks more slapped together, the steak lays in wide strips and it has cheese whiz standard. My point is, I like flavor more than a certain approach to this symbolic sandwich. Philly's Finest has a slightly above average approach, even if it has some differences with many Philly-area sub shops. That's just how it goes. I'd rather have provolone than American cheese. I'd rather the roll was toasted, because it gets soggy otherwise (as it did here). I'd rather the cheesesteak didn't cost $8, or $11 with fries and a drink, because I'm used to better ones for $6 or the whole deal for $8 (see Colonial Pizza). But in the end, it is what it is: a decent place I might go back to now and then for lunch. Next time, I'll probably go for the stromboli. The folks next to us got a large one and it was as big as a flatbed scanner, with a perfectly browned crust. Looked much tastier than my steak and cross-cut fries. I'll find out soon enough. Recommended -- but not for purists.

Philly's Cheese Steak is ok. Nothing special. It is quite pricy for Cheese Steak Combo ( with fried and a drink ) which costs you easy of $12

I love this place! The Philly Cheesesteak is awesome! I like to come here for a late dinner.

4.5 stars. One of the best Cheese steaks I have ever had and easily the best in Jax. The bread is soft and the meat is fresh. The waffle fries are good too and I recommend getting cheese on them. Good drink specials and there is an ice bar too. Lots of TV's to watch all the games. Remember this is a Philly bar.

I am sitting at the same table with my wife and we can not have a conversation ,it is way too loud ,I understand it is a game night but please I actually got a headache waiting for the food .it is exactly 50'minutes since we sat down and food is nowhere in sight . If you name a place as Phyllis finest serve food in timely manner of name it as hole in the wall like it is. Horrible atmosphere ,terrible service ,will never come here again .

When a place is called Philly's Finest, they kind of set a high expectation for the namesake sandwich: Philly Cheesesteak. I had seen a few Yelpers check in here consistently and had gotten a high recommendation from a Philly-transplant, but I must say I was kind of let down when I finally got to sink my teeth into a cheesesteak. I in no way claim to be an expert. And the food tasted good - there was nothing wrong with the order at all. In fact, we were pleasantly surprised the fries stayed crispy all the way home, instead of softening in their own steamy heat. It just didn't meet what I had possibly built up to be a too-high expectation in my own head. The bread to meat ratio was slightly skewed in the direction of the bread - which is the complete opposite of the cheesesteaks I have enjoyed at another local joint (Surfwiches: yelp.com/biz/surfwiches-… ). It just honestly felt like I had very little meat compared to the other fillings that were included in the sandwich. If I all of the sudden have a craving at 1 AM, Philly's Finest will fill that need, but if I have my druthers I will be filing my cheesesteak love elsewhere.

I love this place, hands down. Get the Philly Jeff's style, no ketchup, and "all the peppers"...freaking amazing...it will have mushrooms, cheese, onions, green peppers, peppercinis (sp?), and spicy pepper relish. Prepare for smashing, amazing, stuff!

A true watering hole, cold beer and bar food. Apps of onion rings and Mozzarella sticks were small but hot. Cheeseburger was awesome and Cheesesteak was hot and loaded with steak. Very good for being no where near Philly.

I was not impressed by Philly's Finest cheese steak. The cheese was watery and the bun was VERY soggy, which was surprising since it came out so fast. I also tried the wings which were average at best. Our server told me that the meatballs were not made fresh, which made me wonder what else was frozen. As a restaurant, I wouldn't recommend eating there. They have an ice bar though, so that's pretty cool.

Having spent a large part of my life in Philly, I can tell you this place is good! Not Excellent but Good. I will definitely be back for sure because there are only a few places that even know what a true Philly Cheesesteak is all about. This place have a great bar and looks to be a fun place to watch sports events. As for their cheesesteaks, they are chopped and VERY cheesy. The cheese is properly melted into the sandwich but there sure is a ton of it (little too much, IMHO but that's ok). Their bread is very good and to me, that is truly what makes a good Philly. Only recommendation would be more steak, less cheese and they will be up there with a few other places in FL as the top claim in FL for a genuine Philly. Right now, Baldino's in Tequesta, FL takes the top claim in the state...by far!

Great cheesesteaks. They are the real deal. Amoroso's rolls are shipped down from Philly. I get mine with wiz. Awesome. Too bad the Eagles are terrible this year...

We stopped in and got a couple of Philly cheesecakes because for some reason I was in the mood for a steak sandwich. This was a damn good sandwich, of course I got extra meat and cheese. I was skeptical at first because the bread looked to be a bit on the thick side. After traveling back to the hotel wrapped in foil the flavors had all blended to perfection. This will be my go to spot for cheese steaks when i'm back on the beach for sure.

Way Over priced and just ok food! Being from philly they need to step up their game. Not the best or even close to good cheese steak around. Beaches seafood has a better cheese steak!

  • Lynn M.

Our first (and will be our last visit) was disappointing. The philly cheesesteak was good but the portion of waffle fries was pitiful. And we ordered a pepperoni pizza that took over an hour to get. There were only three other customers in the restaurant at that time and no one bothered to offer an explanation as to the delay of our food until we asked. When the pizza was delivered we got a measly..."sorry." It was an expensive amount to pay for food that we had to take out because we had been there so long that we couldn't wait around any longer. With it being a small business you would think customer service would matter more.

  • Mark B.

This place is NOT even close to Philly's finest for cheesesteaks. The bread was horrible, way to thick and borderline stale. The meat and cheese was average. The appetizers were fine and they had a good selection of local beers. I will not order a cheesesteak here again.

  • Iris B.

Best wings hands down. The sauce for the wings is amazing, I suggest the hot because it is truly hot. Well cooked and not underdone. Crispy. (Are you drooling yet?!) nice watery kens ranch. I also love the trivia on Wednesdays and like that we always manage to have the same waitress every time. Makes for a good local bar feeling.

I've eaten here on and off over the years. I'm somewhat a creature of habit when I find something I like. With that said, I've always ordered the Philly cheesesteak with sautéed onions and bacon and I've never been disappointed!

From Philly, know what a cheesesteak should taste like. This is it. Hands down. 5 stars.

  • Fish T.

Their wings are always over cooked. I tried to give it a shot like 5 times now and they can't get it right. They need a new cook.

Walk right in and take a seat, cheesesteak got in my table in 12 min from sitting down, not bad at all. Great views of the nba finals. Cat was a extremely friendly and she provided great service. Prices are below avg for the type of food and service good drink specials 2 for ones etc. The steak was on point and the fries with extra lowrys seasoning was delicious. Cheese Wizz is an option as well as mozzarella.? 12 bucks for steak and fries and huge mr pibb! Great place to blaze up and grub out!!! I'll be back!

Had their "Jeff's Philly Cheesesteak" and it was $8.97 just by itself, if you order the combo it's $3.00 extra which comes with a drink and their seasoned fries. The only difference between Jeff's and the other Philly cheesesteak is that Jeff's comes with mushrooms and ketchup. Cheesesteak was great, and it was a great portion. My friends loved it, and I loved it. Definitely would return for their cheesesteaks and possibly to try other items on the menu. They do have pretty cheap prices for drinks here! $5.00 for shots, $5 for cocktails, etc. We came right during happy hour so it was even cheaper! Around $3-$4 I believe per cocktail. Service was great, and unlike other reviews I have no problem with it. Maybe it was because we came before all the crowd or we were just lucky. Overall it was a great experience and will definitely return.

OK...I admit it....I'm from Philly. But I've lived here in North Florida for 15 years. I ate a lot of cheese steaks growing up. A lot. I gotta tell ya, Philly's Finest is one of the best. It's the real deal. One bite and a flood of memories of the Flyers, Eagles, Mummers, Phillies, gang fights, shootings...it all comes back. Lots of places call some sandwich type object on their menu a "Philly Cheese steak" but it has nothing to do with a cheese steak. This place is different. It really is a taste of Philadelphia. Sure there are lots other things on the menu, but why bother? Just order a Cheese Steak (or chicken cheese steak), some waffle fries and talk about how "da fly-ahs ah definitely gun-ah win da Stanley Cup dis yee-ah....dehhh--finitely". At it's core, this place is a sports bar that makes you feel like you're on South Street Philadelphia. It's very clean. There's a frosty strip that runs along the length of bar to keep your beverage cold. There's also tables. The Big Screen TV's are always showing Philadelphia sports.

Cheesesteak is strong. Calzone was one of the best I've ever had.

  • Jenn S.

i agree with a prior yelper, if you're from Philly -- you're not really giving Phillys finest a chance. I've been to Philly and I still think this place is amazing! they have white American cheese which is highly important to me if you're making me a cheese steak. secondly, their beef is sliced thin & their bread is awesome. I think phillys finest is the best cheesesteak in Jacksonville. it's rare to find a place this good so far from Philly.

  • Connie W.

It is basically a sandwich place, sports bar known for the Cheese steak. It is ok, not the best I have had. The restaurant itself is set up like a sports bar and they have a pretty uniques ice bar built into the regular bar. Pretty cool.. Service is speedy and accurate. Good for large groups and fun to watch the games at.

  • Matt B.

Always liked Philly's Finest, but never loved it. Good northeast vibe and the food is adequate. They recently expanded and added a full bar with a neat ice bar, as well as added new flatscreen tv's for sports viewing. Still a nice hangout, but some of the cool intimacy of the small confines was lost in the expansion.

  • Keith C.

I eat here a lot. It is near the hotel where I stay frequently. The food is good. The staff is very friendly. The ice bar is pretty cool. They have great happy hour specials

  • Scott W.

sandwiches are OK, but it's so dang expensive. The basic sandwiches are a little light so you have to order double meat for $3 - so $14 for a sandwich and fries, with 1 or 2 beers that's well over $20 for lunch??!!?!

  • Odile D.

Im not the biggest fan of Philly Cheesesteaks, however my friend was craving and I agreed to go along. I thought it was a bit pricier than I had expected for some reason. The food was good, fries rock, service was nice, I enjoyed the music selection. I don't know what it was though but I couldnt finish half of one in one sitting. Eating what I ordered took 2 days. I took over half of it home. I warmed it up multiple times and took a few bites, it just took so much strength to finish the entire thing. I know I wont go alone just because I'm not a fan, but my Philly Cheesesteak was good and I would go again if the right person invited me.

I'm from the Philly area and these are the absolute worst cheesesteaks I've ever had in my life. It was not even edible. The bread was gross and the meat was grosser. And there was more chopped peppers mixed in than there was meat anyway. I'd take a subway cheesesteak over this place any day.

I crawled my way into Philly's Finest on New Year's day, and I have to say...not bad! I wasn't expecting much from this strip mall location, but the interior was surprisingly nice. They seated us at a hightop and brought out a pretty tasty bloody mary. The draft list is solid and the bar area is huge, complete with a number of TVs that were all tuned to football games. The menu is pretty standard pub fare. We tried some cheese sticks that were right of out a frozen bag and into the deep fryer. I got ten wings and fries. I ordered cajun-ranch as the sauce. Somehow I thought that these would taste like ranch, but they were pretty much identical to the standard hot that I tried. I also tried the cheese steak, what was pretty much par for the course. Not really outstanding for the signature item. Nothing wrong with this place, but I didn't love anything I tried. There are worse places to grab a beer and wings, but I'm not rushing back.

  • M. B. G.

Best Philly Cheesesteaks in the area, plus an excellent Chicken Philly as a "lighter" option. Otherwise, the pizza, wings, and hoagies are all good. There are 10+ TVs for watching sports, and the employees are always playing good music at lunch time.

This review concerns delivery, never eaten in so I can't speak for that. The three worst meals I've had in my 18 months at the beach have been my three delivery meals from Philly's Finest. The common theme that leads to me ordering from them is they are one of only places at the beach that delivers late on Sunday. The first was a cheese pizza, which tasted kind of like a giant cracker with ketchup on it. Kind of like a Lunchables pizza, except a Lunchables pizza tastes better. Since then, I have ordered the chicken tender basket twice and both times I would have been more satisfied walking to 7-11 to buy frozen chicken nuggets and heating them up in the oven. I know I'm not ordering their signature item, but if you can't figure out how to make an edible cheese pizza or basket of chicken fingers why should I trust you to handle something like a Philly cheesesteak? I've always been intrigued by the ice bar but I can say with certainty I will never touch this place again.

Review from a Cowboy Fan despite this being a Philadelphia establishment, lol. Great Cheesesteak, could have used a little more meat, but it was a 12" sandwich! Excellent blue cheese fries! Nice decor. Lots of TV's to watch the games. Nice beer selection as well. We did avoid the "Cowboys Suck" shot! We would come back!

    (4)
  • Daniel A.

Lots of TVs for sports. Not a great beer selection. The Philly Chesesteak wasn't very good, but I liked the corn dog bites and the waffle fries.

    (2)
  • Catarina B.

The cheesesteak is terrible but they have good tenders. Also, their trivia is way too hard, I used to go and a lot of questions are really out there. The place does have a lot of TVs so that's a plus.

    (3)
  • Adam K.

Hands down best cheesesteak and chicken czsteak around. Philly authentic, rolls and meat, cheesy deliciousness! Can also catch any of your teams sports games on one of like 12 50" tv's, bartender is happy to do it for ya... Walk off the beach(3 blocks) or delivery, I've done it 100's of times since I have lived here and it tastes the same everytime. Don't go spending the SAME AMOUNT for The Subway knockoff when you can get the real thing here! Poppers, wings, mini corn dogs, chix fingers, pizza are spot hitters as well, try new options with confidence here.

Stopped in and tried this place after following them on Facebook for sometime. My first impression once I walked in the door was the smell. It didn't really smell fresh and inviting. Had more of a musky dirty smell. Being we drove a decent distance to try it I went ahead and ordered some food and drinks. The cheesesteak is pretty decent. I would rate it a solid "C" not the best but I've had worse. Drinks were decent but the experience was a little pricey. 2 cheese-stakes small fry and 2 drinks each we were at $50 with tip $58 for a Saturday lunch. Lol. Would probably go back if I was in the area and wanted a sandwich but I wouldn't make the 30mile trip again to specifically eat here. If 2.5 stars is average that's what I would rate them however ill click 3 for their benefit.

  • Jay G.

This was my first time ordering from Philly's Finest. We ordered a 10 piece of bbq wings, a cheeseburger and a side of waffle fries. The wings were fantastic I have to say. They were cooked to perfection and the sauce was just right. I would definitely go back to try the different flavors. Now the burger on the other hand wasn't bad at all but wasn't really that great either. Nothing really stood out about it to distinguish it from any other place that serves burgers. To nitpick I prefer a slice of tomato instead of dices but that's just my preference. So overall I'd rate the burger as average. The waffle fries imo were a bit overpriced for the portion. They were tasty but 2.99 for that small portion was a bit rediculous. So to sum it up ...yeah I'd go back to Philly's Finest to check out some of their signature cheese steaks and other wing varietys. Definitely not a bad place to eat just some room for improvement on their burger meat.

I love there Philly cheesesteak!! I have never tried anything else but there pizza looks good. Portions are large The only reason it did not get 5 starts is service Wednesday's they have trivia!
