We read mixed reviews prior to dining, and should have listened to the bad ones. We had 8:15 dinner reservations for a party of 5. Everything seemed great for the first hour through our salads course, and then we waited another hour for our entrees. It took over 2 hours to receive them. This was not a long leisurely meal, as other tables received their food within an hour all around us. When we did receive them, 2 out of the 5 we're not what we ordered. They even ran out of bread which we asked for more of while waiting. They didn't offer to bring anything else out in its place. Overall the worst fine dining experience I've ever had - don't waste your money and more importantly your time!!!

Beautiful location. Good service. Overrated and overpriced for what they offer. $16 for a martini-and not even a very good one. The food was average. With all of the good restaurants Islamorada has to offer, this would not be at the top of my list -

I really have mixed feelings about how to properly review this restaurant. My initial experience was at lunch, with my fiancé and daughter. We each had ordered something different and, overall, were very pleased with everything we ate. The food was interesting, seemed to be made of quality ingredients and tasted great. So we excitedly made a reservation for dinner that evening. Now, keep in mind, this is a very expensive restaurant so our expectations were set accordingly. Our waiter, though friendly enough, couldn't the flakier and somewhat unprofessional (Example: he overheard a private conversation that we were having and then chimed in with his "two cents.") This set the stage for concern about the food that was forthcoming. We each ordered an appetizer. I had the grilled Romaine salad which was okay but inexplicably contained a pile of tiny, unseasoned croutons that clearly came from a supermarket box. My date ordered the conch chowder, which unmistakably smacked of the canned Manhattan clam chowder variety in both flavor as well as texture. Interestingly, it arrived with some type of white foam on top which, in retrospect, may have been to disguise the fact that this was obviously not homemade chowder. Needless to say, we were absolutely shocked at what was being passed off as fine food. However, the main courses were actually quite good. My date had the evening special strawberry grouper and I had the crab cakes. Both entrées seemed fresh and of good quality - maybe not $35 per entrée quality, but reasonable considering that we were dining in the sand, a stones throw away from the Atlantic Ocean on a beautiful evening. My daughter had the filet and said it was really good. We had one dessert - a traditional molten chocolate cake, which was fine. So, all in all, we had fine dining caliber main courses, sports bar caliber appetizers and a casual theme caliber desert, plus a few cocktails. That, and a total bill, including tip that ran $274 for three people. The fact is there are a variety of very high quality restaurants within 2 miles of Cheeca Lodge that I suggest you try out, until the time when Atlantic's Edge starts to get serious about its food and service.

Three lunch entrees/sandwiches...Large turkey club, quesadilla, seafood tacos + conch chowder and fruit platter. Great food, good portions. Amazing outdoor eating with view of the gulf and palm trees, tropical plants and flowers. Really good service. Not cheap @ $85 including tip, but worth it for a special lunch.

I had the best steak here when I stayed at the resort however it's off the menu when I returned. The food overall is great, the seating and the views are fantastic. Definitely a must when staying at the cheeca lodge.

Mixed reviews about this restaurant. The service was very slow, however our waitress was very nice and apologetic about it. The food was ok, but nothing out of this world. The grilled octopus was just ok. I was not impressed with the ceviche of the day... I've had much better. The whole fried yellowtail, was very good but impossible to mess that up! All in all the food was just ok and the service was very very slow!

Horrible service. Drinks come with food (how long does it take to pour a pint, really?). Service is extremely slow, watch for your bill - they added an extra item to ours).

Came back exactly 1 year later from my first review. The bad: service in the hotel and with the wait staff was lacking this time. The service certainly wasn't as robust, generous and welcoming as my first visit, which was very disappointing because the hospitality during my first visit was very good and refreshing. A quick note to the hotel facilities manager: fluorescent lights are not welcoming or flattering in a dining setting. Make sure all the lights on the dining patio are free of fluorescent bulbs. Warm incandescent lighting is so much more luxurious. The good: the food was excellent. The atmosphere at our table was very good. The welcome at the valet was much better this time around. The hotel lobby restrooms have very nice bath products. The bar staff was attentive and friendly.

We ordered the special of the day. A lobster tail and three tenderloins, vegetables and a choice of potatoes. The waitress did not tell us the price of the specials. Well, the lobster was so dry that it was impossible to remove it from the shell. The three small tenderloins were also very dry. The plate was probably sitting under the heating light for at least 10 minutes. The vegetables we overcooked and the little potatoes hard as a rock. The price for this dish was $68. Way overpriced even if the plate was wonderful. Plus, there was no soda and no draft beers. How a hotel can have their soda machine and draft beer broken on a Saturday night. It has a wonderful view so I guess you pay for the view!

My husband and I went here on New Years Eve for a special prix fix menu. I don't know what this place is like on a regular night, so take that into account when reading this review. But this special dinner, which cost $255 per person, was one of the most overpriced, disappointing dinners I've had. First, the food. The food sounded good on paper, but all of it was premade and pretty bland. There seemed to be no attempt to make anything fresh. It's like they pulled the dish straight out of the fridge. All of the courses were cold except the main course, which left much to be desired for other reasons. There was an option between lobster and beef tenderloin. My husband had the former and I had the latter. The lobster was incredibly rich. The lobster meat itself was delicious and very fresh, but we weren't big fans of the dish itself. The tenderloin was ok, but it really did feel like a standard run-of-the-mill hotel restaurant fare. Not worthy of a $255/person price tag. Not even close. Second, the service. There were a lot of people running around, and our water service was good. But our waiter...my god. He was very nice, but he had so little tact and seemed to have no idea what he was doing all night. He could've been a lumberjack by trade who never spent a day of his life working in food service. He didn't tell us what he was putting in front of us; just kind of clumsily plopped it down. He didn't ask how I wanted my tenderloin cooked, and seemed to forget to bring out certain things that were supposed to be included until we reminded him. This was a disappointing meal, to say the least.

We celebrated our anniversary here and it was better then expected. The food was spot on served hot and well seasoned. The lobster truffle mashed potatoes are to die for!! They were so nice. Everyone who came to our table wished us a happy anniversary. Definitely recommend and we will be coming back. Sherry our server was so attentive and friendly.

Oysters and mussels were really good. Great service in a beautiful ocean front place.

When you walk into this spot, you're thinking you're going to have one of the better meals of your life. The presentation, ambiance, and allure of the Cheeca Lodge all set it up for that... Aside from the cocktails (which were done PERFECTLY), Atlantic's Edge was just "ok." Food wasn't anything special, the service wasn't bad at all (Ben was great), but I guess we were just expecting better. The taste was bland of my seafood pasta, and the appetizer of Grilled Octopus was REALLY small. Portion-to-price ratio isn't too good here, but if that doesn't bother you, you might enjoy it. Also (this doesn't bother me at all) but the nearby Tiki Bar outside allows smoking -- so if you don't like a cigarette and cigar smell, you might not want to eat here.

The food is great but the service was lackluster at best. If your staying there and don't want to go off property it'll do. For the money, there are plenty of better choices for fine dining on the island. Do yourself a favor a skip this one.

We went here on our wedding anniversary in early March, 2015. The food was good but the servers and wait staff were all confused. The people at the table next to us were congratulated on their wedding anniversary - which it wasn't. No one figured it out and congratulated us. Appetizers and entrees were consistently being brought to the wrong tables: either we were being given another tables' order or they were getting ours. Our glasses of bottled water were topped off with tap water a few times. My wife mentioned our anniversary when ordering dessert, but no special attention was given. All in all, decent food but service much worse than one would expect at Fawlty Towers. ;-)

Set only a palm leaf's length away from the azure Atlantic waters, this fine dining establishment is like an undiscovered treasure from a world lost to time. Moving at a pace not much faster than the warm evening breeze, service and atmosphere was relaxed and understated, just like the Keys themselves. The food was dazzling. The amuse of "baked potato" was a clever deconstruction of a familiar flavor, the perfect launching pad for a journey into the exotic. Starters included a fresh ceviche that both showcased the freshness of the fish and elevated the flavor with subtle citrus. And the local "Pinky" jumbo shrimp were succulent and beautiful, the briny freshness almost as captivating as the perfect texture of the wild shrimp. The light salad of local greens, heirloom tomatoes, and burrata added just the right amount of richness and bitterness to both end the 1st course and build anticipation for the main course of line-caught cobia. A fish I am not familiar with, it had a texture that was both firm yet delicate, perhaps more a testament to the perfect execution of its preparation. And the simple grilling allowed its natural oiliness to shine on the palate as brightly as the mid-day Florida sun. A light lemon sauce and gnocchi made the perfect backdrop for a fish that needs little else. Overall, one of my most memorable meals. Eating is about so much more than food, and yet at the same time it's all about the food. Atlantic's Edge manages to walk this fine line with grace and elegance, much like the private beach it sits on.

Is there better value to be had in the keys? Absolutely. Is there a spot with better ambience and service? I doubt it. This place is expensive. It is the perfect place for celebrating a special occasion or if are the kind of person that can afford to stay at Cheeca Lodge. The jumbo stone crab appetizer is just sublime. Grilled romaine salad is like a deconstructed Cesar salad. The wife had a tropical mahi mahi that she loved! I had the whole fried snapper, very tasty. We were bursting but still had room for a molten chocolate lava cake.

Set in the recently remodeled Cheeca Lodge, which is setting its sights on being that oxymoron of the Florida Keys, a 5-star hotel in the Florida Keys, Atlantic's Edge aspires to similar greatness, so it has to be reviewed against similar eateries in some of the top hotels in Florida, particularly with steaks at $45 and roasted chicken at $25, it prices itself as such. On that basis, with no offense to Kevin's masterful and eloquent description of the place, it falls far, far short. The positives first: The service is outstanding. They are prompt, courteous, and attentive. The restaurant is well decorated in the newly rebuilt lodge building, providing 5-star ambience. The restaurant sits on the water's edge with spectacular views of the Atlantic. The let down? The food does not live up to 5-star standard. It started well. The little taste spoons they brought out with a duck salad were outstanding. The focaccia bread was perfect with the charcuterie appetizer. Then came the main event: The Bell & Evans chicken that we ordered was dry. The sides, a truffled mac and cheese, and creamed spinach, were both very small for the price, when compared to say Gotham at the Fontainebleau in Miami Beach or Bourbon Steak at Turnberry Isle Resort in Aventura or even Cafe Marquesa in Key West. The mac and cheese was bone dry and crunchy. The creamed spinach was a little burned on top from being broiled in a cast iron pan where there's such a thin layer in the pan. Cook less or put more in. You charge high dollar, you should pull off big wow, and frankly, the food doesn't stack up. On a cold day, they need to invest in some cold weather panels and move the space heaters to the patio to take advantage of the great patio seating. If Four Seasons in West Palm can pull it off, boys and girls, so can you. Also, when the weather is cold, they need to have both the indoor and outdoor bar turnkey. The lone bartender shutting down the outside and moving inside during the dinner hour cuts it at a cheaper restaurant, but not in a premiere place like Atlantic's Edge aspires to be. It is my hope that if I come back here next year, or later this year, and try it again, it will live up to the prices, and the review below. Right now, you'd be better off at a number of fine establishments up and down the street for far less money.

We went years ago before the renovation. The food itself wasn't mind blowing like Morada Bay or Pierre's but the setting and ambiance was so lovely that we would go back just for that. We spent our official honeymoon on Maui Hi. But we had 2 pre honeymoons one at the Jersey shore and one in the Florida Keys. Cheeca Lodge was the first place we stayed. We waited to go to Maui until the winter when the whales are there. We got married on July 4th and went to the Florida Keys. We ate at Atlantic's Edge and the setting so so very pretty! There is a new chef at Atlantic's Edge, which is now under the creative direction of James Beard-approved Chef Dean Max of 3030 Ocean fame in Fort Lauderdale. The food must be better now and the setting was so pretty that even though the food wasn't mind blowing I was over whelmed by the beauty. We are from NYC and started and ended our vacation in Miami beach though the resort we stayed at is nice here Miami beach is a cesspool. Everything about Atlantic Edge is just lovely!
