In my household you get to pick what you want for your birthday dinner. So I asked my son what he wanted and he said "Stone Crab claws - they came into season yesterday!!" WTH...he expects me to come up with crab claws that were in the Atlantic Ocean yesterday and serve them tomorrow? Thank God for the internet. I googled "Florida Stone Crab" and found Seafood Connection. I called at 3:05 P.M. and was told I needed to have gotten my order in by 3. I pleaded and he asked what I would have ordered...when I said 5 pounds of the jumbo at a total of $179 he said he'd be right on that. Crabs arrived next morning BEFORE 11:00 A.M. They were beautiful, and we ate every bite. These crabs are in season from Oct. 15th thru May 15, and are so delish I can't even describe it. All you have to do is make a salad, a sauce, and crack them open - they're cooked on the dock as soon as they're brought in. And here's the best part...they don't give their lives for your enjoyment. They cut off the biggest claw and throw them back where they re-grow a claw. I don't want to think what that feels like for the poor crabs, but they do live to give up another claw. No - don't even think about that and life will be good. Sob...
