Delicious conch fritters, fish n chips, and buffalo shrimp salads. Brought my dad here (from out of state). He loved the food. Cool view if monkey island. Service however on this particular visit was pretty pathetic. Don't go anywhere near shift change unless you want a slumpy waitress who clearly doesn't want anymore tables. We could here the girls arguing about whose section to put us in and pouting about taking us. I'm a server, so I know it can be annoying but a customer should NEVER be able to read it all over your face. Other than the service, I enjoy eating here.

This is an excellent place to eat at after swimming with manatees. We had mozzarella sticks and fried clams for an appetizer. They were delicious. The fried Clam basket came with homemade chips and hush puppies that were to die for! I had linguini with baby clams in garlic and butter. There were tons of baby clams and chunks of fresh garlic. I had plenty left for dinner later on. It was delicious. The service was excellent and we had a great view of monkey Island. Great place!

Not at all impressed with the food or the service. Walked in and asked the server if they had stone crab claws, she said she didn't think so they just keep Stone crab on the menu whether they have it or not. Someone else walked up and said that she would go to the kitchen and ask if they had Stone crab claws. After about 10 minutes she came back out and said we were in luck they did have snow crab claws. So we took a seat ordered our Stone crab claws, 2 pounds $60 comes with two sides. A half an hour later my salad and my husbands coleslaw was delivered and we were told that the crab claws would be out shortly. Well shortly was another 20 minutes. No crab crackers, nothing to put the shells in. We ended up using the basket that they served the bread in, which was after we were able to flag the waitress down and get the crab crackers. The sides we ordered that came with our meal were not even delivered with the crabs and came out maybe 15 minutes after we started eating. So, if you're not in a hurry and really don't care about service based on the amount of money you're spending, you might like this place.

What a cool spot -- we enjoyed our lunch with a lovely view of the water and spider monkeys playing on an island. (Yep, monkeys on an island. Only in Florida, right?) The food was fine, the service was fine, our kids had fun and we'll be back. If only we had a boat to launch from here, too!

great atmosphere great food at good price

The ONLY thing I loved about this restaurant is that they owned a small island inhabited with monkeys a short distance away, so the view was definitely original. The front entrance wasn't recognizable, so I believe we came in through the bar. The bartender saw us and looked away. I then greeted him and asked about seating and he mumbled something and sort of pointed us towards the main dining room. We were not greeted by anyone..again, so I asked a server if we could seat ourselves. She replied with an extremely rude "No. How many?". I then asked if we could have a waterfront view.."Uh yeah" was her response. The all you can eat fish was alright..but you can hardly finish one plate and the fries and fish batter are mediocre. In my honest opinion, I would never return here if I lived in the area. This is one of those places you would expect to see on Chef Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. I almost died when I found out I could watch monkeys play while I ate dinner, but it was soon clear that the company spends more time and energy on their captive animals than the over-priced restaurant.

servers were nice..... waited forever for our food over a half hour for our appetizers. we saw another table get up and leave. this place used to be really nice and bigger but it's definitely gone down size...... another server heard us complain and went to go check on our food which was nice... I won't be back though that's for sure... sorry guys. if you're close by there are monkeys on an island in the water which is cool to bring your kids too just don't come here to eat

We had a good visit last night. Clam Chowder and homemade chips were very good. I also had a blackened grouper sandwhich that was good. Whole party was pleased with their meals. Not my #1 choice in area but will return.

I visited this restaurant because of the great location overlooking the water. This was the best part of the experience, and probably my only reason for giving it a 3-star rating. The service was slow and the food was mediocre. It took us over an hour to get our food, and when I asked for a side of ranch (which I had already asked for while ordering) I got an eye-roll from the waitress and an "in a minute" remark. The plates were hot, but the food was lukewarm, as if it had been sitting in the window for a long time, before being delivered. I usually do not receive this type of service in Homosassa, as it is my favorite town. I can't say that I will not be back, because I really did enjoy the location, and I go to Homosassa all the time. However, it will not be my first choice.
(3)Janet K.
I had the fried shrimp which were cooked great, seriously, the cucumber & onion salad & smushed veggies are prepared for those wo teeth...it's easy to gum it. Carol made me a great margarita, which I downed. My husband had the grilled grouper sandwich. His comment was, "I should've gone w the burger, it's less to mess up & better quality of meat." Guess that about sums up the Homosassa Area dining experience.

We had a delicious lunch here after snorkeling with some manatees. The food was great - the gator bites were amazing and my BBQ pork was delectable. Great hush puppies too! The server was new and super sweet. She catered to our every need and was quick. Lovely deck to sit on and watch the river flow by on a sunny day - with a great view of monkey island too! Would return. Good Florida time.
(4)Barry G.
Totally sucks from service, cleanliness, even the drinks suck! Very disappointed we stopped for breakfast, the server was short and rude, obviously didn't want to be there, the ice tea tasted like soda and the diet coke tasted like mold in the lines!
(1)Charles T.
Don't bother going here if you don't have the whole afternoon to kill. Fried food, slow service, very dated interior. Chowder had to be reheated because it was cold by the time it reached the table.
(3)Andrew M.
We ate upstairs at the monkey bar. The atmosphere is pretty awesome, which on this particular night is just what we were looking for. Outdoor and indoor, multi level, over looking the delta style dock. Not to mention a view of the near by mini island where several monkeys frolic! Food was pretty damn good as well. Never had as good of fried gator tail. Clam strips as to be expected, shrimp to peal and garlic clams very good also. Three dishes and four drinks for under 60 dollars was a bargain. Service was quick and friendly. If ever I'm town Again, I will go out of my way to return, maybe in the afternoon to watch more of the monkeys!
(4)Melissa Z.
This is olde Florida eatn'. It's the no-frills, laid back, low country, southern twang you'd expect to see on the off beaten Florida path. The kind of place that will cook what you catch. The food is good IF you stick with the seafood. Everyone who ate a seafood item, loved their meal; those who tried something was not as happy with their choice. This place knows seafood. What made me want to give this place 3 stars was the side dish - I ordered the vegetable medley - and it was from a can. Totally Not good. But I rounded up to a 4 because honestly, you're in the middle of nowhere man and I was just happy with edible. The other way this place made it to 4 stars is the Awesome water View! Whether you dine on the ground level or on the second floor, the place is surrounded with windows so you get a great view of the water AND monkey island! WHO KNEW there was an island with real wild monkeys living on it! And yes (!) you can seem them frolic and play while you eat and drink. AH-mazing! This place is huge. Two levels of dining and a several bar areas, even a rooftop patio. If you are visiting Homosassa or Chrystal River, this is a great place to end the evening.
(4)Heather S.
Atmosphere is awesome. Plenty of seating with a view overlooking the water! Awesome view of monkey island with a couple monkeys playing and living their lives while you eat. Pricing was very reasonable and the drinks actually had booze that you could taste. Service was good and food was great. My favorite had to be the gator bites. I was a little skeptical at first but honestly from a person who is willing to try new things, I was a little nervous but they were unbelievable. Very tender! If I'm ever back in Homosassa, I'll definitely be dining here again!! Two thumbs up for sure!
(4)Thomas A.
Surprisingly good! With bonus points for the incredible view of Monkey Island. I had the sliders (2 burgers, 2 bbq pork) and they were quite tasty. The BBQ had a very unique flavor...the little sliders were very munchable. A highlight was the home made potato chips...nice touch! My fellow diners both had the pasta, and though it was served in portions that would feed a family of four for a week, it was lackluster and bland. Also of high importance, the service was just plain top shelf. A full star gets tacked on for this. My water never drifted below half-full the entire meal, and I was drinking LOTS after a full day on the river. She was extrememly attentive to even the smallest details and took care of everything perfectly.
(4)N S.
The view of the restaurant is nice with Monkey Island in plain view and the boats on the river. You may find the food tasty if you've never eaten in a restaurant before ever in your life. If you have, don't go here. And it is not even inexpensive. It is like $21 for crappy food. Overfried. Dried up quarter piece of corn. Marinara sauce tastes like tomato paste. Food cold after waiting a year. Not a good experience.

We have been to this restaurant several times and have enjoyed it every time. The main restaurant is now upstairs and their bar is quite nice. Liquor bottles enclosed in a very nice large curio cabinet. The lobby was beautifully decorated for the Christmas Holidays and very festive. We made sure to get there before dark to enjoy Monkey Island and a couple of cocktails before dinner. They have a full bar with different choices of beers for Happy Hour, wines and a number of their specialty drinks. Great choice of appetizers which we always skip because we know our meals will be more than enough and of course there is always dessert. There hasn't been one meal that hasn't been delicious. Every seafood dish, steak or chicken dish have the right seasonings and ingredients to make them perfect. Last time I remember my sirloin steak cutting like butter. And the desserts. Key lime pie is the best and they have a chocolate cheesecake with a thin layer of maybe a white cream topped with chocolate cake. Need I say more. Service has always been super friendly and punctual. So looking at the other reviews that I see as negative, I sometimes wonder if I am going to the same restaurant or if I am just catching them when every body is on best behavior and the chef is cooking the freshest foods.

Look, this is a typical Florida Joint (yes joint is a descriptive term not to be confused with dive. Joints are much nicer). so if you're looking for finely pressed linen on the table, you're in the wrong place. if you're looking for good food and fairly reasonable prices, then you're probably going to leave happy. I'm a pretty simple guy. If you can steam it and serve it in a bucket then the odds are I'm going to be pretty happy. The Riverside crab house not only steamed things and put them in a bucket, they did it while offering me a view of an island full of money's playing! Free monkey show with every meal? I'm in! If you're a tourist and looking for something that's got the feel of traditional Florida, then this definitely where you want to be. However, if you're looking for something like a Red Lobster, sadness will ensue. My bucket was cocked just right and had more seafood (mostly shrimp, but reasonable helpings of things like crabs and clams) than I could comfortably down (not that I didn't try!). Everyone in my part took a pass at my bucket and we all agreed it was something the should have gotten as well (me mostly because it would have meant far fewer hands in my bucket). Though everyone did comment that their meals were very good and everyone left happy. If you're in the Homosassa, FL area for that big sales meeting...I'll wait until the laughing tapers off.......waiting..... gonna be awhile... here we go!... Then definitely make the time to drop by. Even if it's just for a beer and a free monkey show!

Well I think they might have saved the tiniest set of midget snow crab legs for the next jerk who walked in a half hour before closing time. And that jerk was me. Maybe I'm spoiled by some of the other places around here, but what you get for $12 here is half or even a third of what you can get nearby for the same price (less, actually). I could only get slivers of meat out, it was almost laughable. Since this is called the "Crab House" I was expecting a lot more, the epitome of crab. Maybe that's the problem. In any case, our waitress was delightful but I wouldn't come back.
(2)Cynthia F.
5* for great close-up view of Monkey Island, relaxing waterviews and ambience. 2* for the fresh but not-gourmet food. I don't know what to say about the service--our freindly waitress Diana gets an A for effort but either she or the kitchen staff needs some serious training. My husband ordered an appetizer and entree. They ran out of the appetizer and didn't tell the waitress. She brought me my food and nothing for my husband. After a long wait, she brought him his entree, which he claims had been sitting around getting cold while he was waiting for the appetizer that never came. The food was blander than for our tastes; my 95 year old mother would probably enjoy their recipes. Worth a visit just for the views; go when you're not very hungry or in a hurry, and lower your expectations for the service and food. I had the fish sandwich, and the fish was very fresh, although bland.
(3)Robbie M.
Grouper fingers cooked perfectly. Melted in my mouth. We were glad they offered vegetarian fare for my friend. Great water view.
(4)Richard F.
We had a real treat today at the Crab House. Today was all you can eat fish for $8.95. The fish, served as huge filets, was lightly battered and very mild. Served with fries, we ate till we were stuffed. We had a great table with a view of Monkey Island. We watched the monkeys romp as we feasted on our appetizer of alligator bites. Served with a special sauce, they were very tasty. The service was good and our server made sure we had full glasses and generous refills of fish. They also offer a dinner cruise, a dinner and a boat ride on the river for $24.95. Seems like a great deal and we'll come back and take advantage of that later this month.
(4)Jacki B.
It was our first time in the area for vacation and we wanted a local non-chain crab house. What a treat. It was our daughter's first time for sea food. Our helpful waitress Kayci made some recommendations which were perfect. We had a great experience (with monkey entertainment). A+ service and price.
(4)Eli S.
We went for snow crabs and all you can eat blue crabs. At 6:30 they were already out of snow crab and the waitress made us feel like we were bothering her because we wanted all you can eat blue crab. We hardly saw her and waited way too long for our second round. She seemed more into complaining then creating a welcoming atmosphere. Besides the terrible service, the food's alright and there's monkeys outside the window, which is cool! The one star review is because the average food does not make up for the terrible service.
(1)Richard N.
Too overpriced.....go to MaCrae's "the shed" or the Freezer and you'll be much happier.
(1)Susan M.
The service was very good. Friendly staff made the experience one we won't forget. Our party of five had a variety of lunch choices, all which were tasty. My husband said the French Onion soup was the best he has had in a long time. My grouper fingers were moist and tender and the others in the party were satisfied with their choices also. Being able to watch the boats on the water and the monkeys on the island added to our enjoyment.
