The Cafe is a great spot for lunch! While at the Diplomat I stopped in and was glad I did. I had the petite Diplomat salad - it has red quinoa which was delicious! Just the right size to pair with an entree. I tried the steak burger which had a lot of flavor. I couldn't pass up dessert, especially since they were featured in cute mason jars! Great experience.
My boyfriend and I decided to venture here for brunch after a late start to the day. Of all the food we had at the resort, this was by far my favorite meal. We were immediately greeted by an older male server, who enthusiastically spoke to us about the menu and their breakfast buffet, available for $25. The boyfriend ends up going the buffet route and was very satisfied with the options, especially the smoked meats and omelet station. For myself, I ordered the steak and eggs: 7oz New York strip, mushroom ragout, two eggs, breakfast potatoes, and toast. Needless to say, this was a lot of food. The steak was perfectly cooked and everything on the plate was deliciously seasoned. For $18, I think it's definitely worth the price. Service was stellar and I would gladly return the next time I stay at the Diplomat!
Like most hotel food, highly disappointed. Fries weren't even decent, how can you mess up fries? Quality of food is cheap. Most items were definitely frozen at a gourmet cost. Do yourself a favor go across the street to Rivals or get a car and travel somewhere for quality food at affordable cost. Hotel is wonderful and to have a cafe dining experience like this was as if we were eating cafeteria food. Maybe I should have taken into account the name is "cafe" for a reason....

I ate breakfast here almost every day we stayed in the hotel, so 4 times. The only reason I came back was merely due to the fact that there's nothing else around for breakfast. The service here is just awful. The breakfast was okay. I got the diplomat breakfast and my chicken sausage was different every day. The eggs were cooked as ordered half of the time. This definitely impacted our experience in the hotel. The server slammed the coffee pot down on my table to ask if I'd like more coffee. They don't give you water unless you ask. They bring your check as soon as your food comes and actually try to ask you about it while you're trying to enjoy your warm breakfast. The hostess was unpleasant half of the times I came here. Maybe auto-grat isn't the best solution to your business, hilton.

Dont ever eat here they first did not serve us breakfast because we were 1 minutes late and it took them 20 minutes to being out the drinks

Portions small. My husband got the coriander chicken and they only served one fingerling potato with the dish. Food was good, but they need to increase portion sizes. (We are small people)

Average food. Ate here two days in a row on business lunches. Salmon was OK. But DO NOT get seafood Cobb salad - worst I've ever had. A few tiny shrimp, a bit of shredded crabmeat, and a sliver of smoked salmon. Can't believe they serve this. Nice ambiance though and friendly staff.

It's not as good as it was in 2009 but still a very good option. Our server, German, was very attentive. They have an omelette station but I didn't order one. I did have about 7 or 8 Begnets which aren't the type of begnet you'd find in New Orleans but still pretty great.

Typical hotel restaurant. Very polite greeter, rapid seating. Slow kitchen service. Inattentive table service. Ordered a waffle with bacon and an omelet with Swiss cheese. Waffle was cold. Bacon order was stated twice but never made it on the order and therefore never arrived. Omelet was horrifically overdone and made with blue cheese (!) not Swiss. Non-committal response to our complaint. This cost $40 including the pre-entered, apparently mandatory gratuity. Coffee was delicious. P.S.: the hotel responded to an emailed complaint by reversing the charge.

I gave The Café four attempts to impress and they did so once. The food is good, but the restaurant is poorly managed. Staff training/quality varies widely. Hotel automatically adds an 18% gratuity. There are not a lot of options for visitors staying in the Diplomat.

11/3/2014 Update: Day 2: *3.5 Stars* - What the hell just happened? It's like I ate from an entirely different menu than I did yesterday. Day 1 was a Sunday. Today (Day 2) is Monday. New chef? Or maybe the chef just hates ahi that much, but has a lot of love for chicken? Whatever the case, my lunch today was great! I'm still scratching my head! As expected, based on my experience yesterday, service was friendly and attentive. Mirta served everything as soon as it was ready and had a pleasant smile and laugh... Management has the service aspect down, as far as I can see. The food was like finding $100 in a school cafeteria... you don't want to be there, but you kind of have to eat there (or starve),, then BAM! Surprise! Glorious day! The chicken was seasoned, tender, juicy, and delicious! It consisted of a coriander-coated, skin-on, breast, thigh and leg, but it was the size of a Cornish game hen... perfect for being satisfied and not over-stuffed. All this poultry magic was sitting in a flavorful broth of mirepoix, coriander, and a few other seasonings I couldn't quite make out (the chef knows where the spice pantry is! Yay!). Presentation was also very appetizing (see photo). My only criticism would be that the veggies (carrot, watermelon radish, turnip (?) and fingerling potato) were a bit too al dente for me, but a lot of people like crunchy, warm veggies, so I can't say they were "under-cooked." I really enjoyed this dish! I'm pleasantly shocked! Maybe I'll try something different tomorrow to determine consistency from the kitchen... Not updating the rating just yet - Stay tuned. ---- 11/2/2014: Day 1: *2 Stars* - Mirela was very sweet and extremely attentive, exceeding my service expectations. It's too bad that she's serving sub-par faire because I guarantee it effects her tips (when it really shouldn't). For the same reason, I wish Yelp separated the service part of a review from the food quality part... but I'll save my rant for another forum. As for Café: I was warned by a hotel guest that this place is "pricey." I paid $20 for an ahi tuna salad, which tasted like gelatinized meat over grass. Don't get me wrong, with the ahi served on the side, the salad actually looked quite pretty. Watermelon radishes would probably make any plate look beautiful, but there was zero flavor! Words that immediately came to mind were; boring, unseasoned, lackluster, one-note... if flavor was a color, this would've been grayish-taupe. So disappointing. Sadly, due to the fact that the conference I'm attending is apparently cheap as hell regarding food (They served wraps today. Just wraps. That's it.), I will probably have to frequent Café at least once daily through Friday, just to get veggies and healthy, non-processed protein. Dear Cafe, Please introduce the chef to salt, pepper, and a few other spices/seasonings, so that the food you deliver is commensurate with the prices and lives up to its presentation. Sincerely, Full, bored and budget-maxed.
