La Ormiga de Oro! What a horrible name! Who would want to eat at a place called that?! This place has terrible customer service. The meat is thin and burnt and the ladies that serve are always with a bad attitude like if they were giving the food for free. It's extremely pricey for the piece of crap portion they serve. La Ormiga de Oro como si te Estas comiendo una Ormiga de carne asada!

I love Nica food but this place is a dump. First they need to remodel and close up the holes in their fire wall and stop the roaches from getting in. Second, they need to fire all those stank workers serving customers like they're prison workers. Third, learn to have more tastier churrussco and queso Frito

I'm Colombian and I go here all the time. Nica food here is amazing. Friendly people. And just an amazing experience.

I was working next door at Panera but was craving "real breakfast" at 10am. Panera was out of soufflés so I ventured next door. Let me just say my cravings were satisfied. I got a breakfast platter to go, scrambled eggs, fried plantains (maduros) with crema, beans, and fried cheese- for $6 with a small cafe con leche. Can't beat that! The lady who helped me was very nice, my food was ready in less than 10 minutes. At 10am they already had the steam table FULL of yummy food for lunch, including meats, rice and beans, seafood items, side items, etc.

We love Nica food and this is the only Nicaraguan restaurant by here. The carne asada is always fresh and full of flavor. It's also relatively inexpensive for the amount of food you are getting. The carne asada combo is $8. All the girls that work there are always super nice. And they deliver!!!!

This is La Hormiga de Oro's second location (that I know of). This one in particular must have the best Carne Asada I've ever had. Very tasty and surprisingly soft for the price you are paying. The rice was done perfectly and the fried cheese is a delicious must have.

Omg, worst service ever, 20 minutes for a coffee then 20 for charging. Horrible attitude.... No a place to go. MalÃsimo el servicio, no vayan....

I ordered take out from this buffet style restaurant for Lunch. As I sat down to eat at my work establishment I found a big black roach sitting in my plate DEAD. I called the restaurant to complain and the owner kindly asked me to come back and my money will be refunded. When I went back to the location the owner seemed to have no concern about the roach in my food nor did she believe the pictures I had taken were of her food. She had the nerve to tell me that I had planted the roach in my food as a way to get my money back. She quickly became aggravated and started to calling me obscene names when I told her I would never come back to the restaurant. The Owner had no concern about her food / preparation nor her customers....

Que Bueno! A great find in a Publix strip mall on a Sunday morning, La Hormiga was next door to an appointment I had so I popped in for some delicious treats to go. The staff is helpful and friendly even though I had a tough time deciding from their bountiful menu of deliciousness. I opted for two pork/potato/rice entrees wrapped in leaves. Ay ay ay, flavorful and filling, I enjoyed one for breakfast and one for dinner. My sweet pick of the day were the Coyoles en Miel ... labeled as plums but actually a type palm seed soaked in honey with hints of cinnamon and clove... upon researching I found that this is a typical Guatemalan/Honduran dessert. I also enjoyed some crispy bread with a spicy pepper dip that was zesty and unique. A cuban coffee and a fresh fruit drink in hand and I was on my way. I would definitely return to try their cabbage topped taco appetizer and many of the other temptations on this menu!

Nothing makes up for a slow weekend like a good, big breakfast at 1pm on a Sunday. This place serves breakfast all day and is pretty cheap, not as cheap as I had hoped but cheap considering that it's 6hrs later and I'm still full thanks to the huge portions! It is the Latin American version of a greasy spoon. For under $20 (including tax & a good tip) my hubs and I put down El Americano, consisting of 2 fried eggs, 2 pancakes, fried ham, bacon, hash browns (like McDonald's), french fries, toast and cafe con leche and a #6, 2 scrambled eggs (to which you can add tomato, green peppers, and onions at no extra charge), french fries, toast, fried ham and cafe con leche, and we added queso frito because, well, why not. El Americano was not the best because they are Latin American, duh. The pancakes were something I'd recommended skipping and the bacon was over cooked but no big, everything else was great! Service was wonderful and fairly quick considering the crowd that was accumulating during our visit. The scrambled eggs (which I ordered with tomatoes) were AWESOME and the bread was buttery and pressed flat just the way I love it. This immediately became a breakfast go to for our hungry fam. They accept credit cards after $5 and bring the bill with pieces of gum for everyone. Added bonus, we didn't stink like food when we walked out, SCORE!

This place has great Latin American food. Cafeteria style service and food that sticks to your stomach.

It's ok, I am from Honduras so my standards are high, since the food is pretty much the same. I have been there twice, the food was good but we had to wait a long before anyone took our order. It was just ok. If I am in the area I wouldn't mind it

Super cheap and very yummy. Tried this place based on yelp reviews. Turned out great. The restaurant is tiny and looks like it's living in the 80's. But the staff is friendly and the food was good. Dinner for $6 and the portions are definitely enough for two to share. Can't beat that! PS. Panera is set to open two doors down this summer. Should bring in more foot traffic for them.

This place is like Piccadilly's but with Cuban food. You just choose your entree and two sides

Cheap, good food. Nothing to go crazy over, but it's always consistently "good". I recommend the gallo pinto, carne Assad & chimichurri, you can't go wrong.

in case you dont know this already, nicaraguan food is amazing. la hormiga de oro sits lonely in a generic shopping mall. surrounded by fast food chain restaurants and the usual suburban shops. i came here cause i was starving and i remembered this place from when i used to live in the area. so i guess theyve been open for a while cause i lived close by about a decade ago or so. you come here and you get the carne asada. grilled meat in case you really wanna know. just get it cause youre going to like it. if you dont like it then youre crazy. seriously. i got that with gallo pinto (nicaraguan style rice & beans), fried cheese and plantain chips. the rice was fluffy and tasty. fried cheese is always great although i dont know how my arteries feel about it.... fresh plantain chips, those are awesome. i wanted to take some to go. so i ate like a king and paid around 8 bucks including tax. service was quick and nice, but monolingual. sharpen your spanish skills then and you wont regret it. for reals bro.

The food here hit the spot.

I went here the other day and I must say, the food was inexpensive and delicious. There was only one other person inside the restaurant, but the staff were friendly prompt. Their sangria was delicious. One glass was not enough. The food is also very good and I would recommend trying them out if you are in the area. Kind of hidden in the corner of the plaza

Long time fan! Haven't been here in years, however I still think about it and wish they would expand their mom and pop company across Florida! Nicaraguan food is on another level of food. Very fresh, incredibly tasty. Their repocheta and quesillo is spectacular along with many of their other cheese dishes! Highly recommended

Excellent counter service Nicaraguan food. The fried queso and carne asada were really good.

Awesome!!! Never had Nicaraguan before, try the lunch deals. One choice of meat, and 3 sides starting at $6, go towards the back, looks like a small buffet. Enough for 2 to share, and good service. Oxtail and shredded beef were delicious.

Just another chance encounter with a really good restaurant. I has looking for parking to go to publix. I really did not feel like cooking, and was wondering on just buying one of those chickens that are already cooked. Well there was no parking close to the supermarket and the only spot was, you guessed it, in front of La Hormiga de Oro ( The Golden Ant). My husband was with me and we decided to give it a go. He was getting over a tummy flu so he wanted soup, I wanted beef. That is exactly what we got. He got a chicken and veggie soup with rice, I got the carne asada, with pico de gallo, fired cheese, and sweet plantain. We took it to go. Now I only had $15 bucks on me cash so I was a bit worried about not having enough and having to use my debit card instead. The total price came to a whopping $12 bucks with drinks. It is great when you get food that cheap. So we get home and dig in, the food was really good. they did not go cheap on anything. The soup was very hearty and my food was great. All of it was fresh, well prepared with just the right amount of seasoning. The staff is really nice and they do have tables for those who want to stay and eat there. Try it out I think you will like it.
