Cracker Barrel has nothing on Red's. They are gimmicky while Red's is the real thing. They say that if you're traveling, try the places where the locals go. This is definitely a "Local's" place. The menu is basic in that there weren't any "gourmet" items but real home cooked specialties like biscuits n gravy, country sausage, French toast on Challah bread, hot cakes, grits n spuds. The place was crowded at 9:30am but we decided to sit at the first available counter seats. The wait was about 5-10 minutes; just enough time to read their little town newspaper. My husband had the regular French toast with the spuds (potato wedges sauteed with onions and peppers to give them a really tasty flavor) and bacon. I had the hungry man's French toast. Honey, orange zest and powdered sugar with 2 country sausage patties. The waitresses were friendly and even though they were very busy, refilled our coffee cups with a smile. It's a definite do-over when we are in Ocala.

Wow! Great food, great service. Huge portions! Definitely taking some home! Husband keeps up with the expletives ( OMG -this is amazing-etc) and my mourn is watering. Reuben for me, chicken-fried Steak for Greg. Patty was amazing!!

We'll I'm a big eater and when I can not finish everything on the plate you know REDS did it right. Just get there early.

Reds was fun went for Sunday breakfast thought we would wait a long time but counter opened up say in less then 10 mins nice country atmosphere decorated pancakes were huge and delicious reasonably priced for what you get -- would go back if in the area again

We got lucky and was able to walk right in and be seated immediately on a Sunday. This is my second time here. The first was a few years ago and it left a great impression then.Well it hasen't changed just got more popular. The down home , rustic , kitschy ambience is just perfect for this area of Florida.Laid back and lovin' it ! The portions are large and home cooked. The waitress was friendly and very competent.Everyone there seemed to be enjoying the experience from the golden age couple with the '32 Coupe to the bikers on Harleys and the many families with young children. Reds is definitely on my list to visit the next time I'm in the area.

Ate here with family during the Thanksgiving 2012 weekend. Was blown away with how efficient and friendly the staff was during what was a very busy breakfast service, apparently its like this whenever they are open. Huge food portions for the price, if you are into that. I had the most amazing Eggs Benedict that I have had in many years, and the home fries (spuds on the menu) were the best I have had in my life. A nice Koi pond out front entertains while you wait for your table or after your meal. Such wonderful servers make this place a must eat at locale when in the Dunnellon/Hernando area.... YELP !!!

Can't go too long without a stop at Red's. Food is good and portions are designed to either make you Porky or feed you again with the large doggie bag you take home. I usually get the Club (2 good meals), and my brother is a Reuben fan. We've gone to quite a few places and none beat Red's for these two choices.

Outstanding food. Service is outstanding . You have to try one of their Pies and maybe take one home. You will never regret eating here. More food then you can eat. Closes at 2pm . Try there Delmonico's steak.

Great food, friendly and attentive waiters that go above and beyond, and a nice comfortable atmosphere. We are frequent visitors.

Red's is a quirky kind of place...in a good way. Let's say it has a lot of character and rustic charm. The service and food are second to none, and the portion sizes are huge, so bring a big appetite. On the downside the place looks a little dirty. Don't confuse dirty with the eclectic collection of farm tools, license plates and old signs when gas was .42c. I am talking dirt/dust here. I was sat at the bar the other day when a piece of dust fell on the seat next to me, so I looked up and the license plates above my head were covered in dust. This got me looking in other areas and the place could really do with a well needed spring cleaning. Maybe on a Monday when they are closed. This said it is a cool place to relax and enjoy a great meal at any time of the day. The staff, as I said earlier, really go overboard to make your visit very enjoyable. The staple of any good restaurant/diner is good coffee, and they don't fall short here either...great coffee! I would gladly give 5 stars if the staff would put a little effort in cleaning a little.

This is a wonderful country-style restaurant that does breakfast and lunch. Plan on a slight wait on weekends as this is THE PLACE for breakfast. I have been there when there is a bluegrass duo playing out front, which adds to the atmosphere. The menu is full and offers variety. The orange zest French toast and eggs Benedict are a hit, but a sampler platter would be beneficial because everything sounds tempting. Staff seems attentive and very friendly, and everyone seems to be in a good mood after stopping by.

Great breakfast menu. Everyone at my table received eggs cooked perfectly as ordered. I chose grits from the sides offering of potatoes, grits, fresh fruit, or baked apples. Enjoyed the grits! Service efficient and decor cabin comfortable. Only downside: wifi not available to customers, so I had to wait to post this review! So leave your smart phones home or in the car.

I've never had chicken fried steak before, nor sausage gravy. I saw some reviews on Ocala Word of Mouth. I took a chance. And MAN!!! Was it delicious! Not greasy, not overly salty and full of flavor! Not a fatty piece of meat. Honestly....delish! My Mother-in-Law wasn't too happy with the pastrami sandwich she ate. But, I can't really comment on that since I didn't eat it. The service was great! Friendly and knowledgable. Definitely would eat here again...

Reds was started by the previous manager of Stumpknockers. Red and his wife Tara have created a warm atmosphere, tremendous food and a wait staff that is simply awesome. Try anything on the menu without fear. Everything is delicious and the portions are huge. It is simply one of the best places around. As others said, get there early but stick around if you have to wait. It's worth it!

Great Southern breakfast roadhouse: rustic barn board and old signs and other kitcsh everywhere. Friendly, "y"all" service and quick. Just had bfast and everything was really good. Chicken fried steak came covering half the plate along with 2 eggs, cheesy grits and a huge biscuit. Good coffee and fresh oj, a perfect first meal.

"Rain or shine, there's always a line", an old saying, applies to this breakfast/lunch diner. Great food, big portions, good service and reasonable prices -no wonder it is always crowded - especially on the weekends. From the eggs and biscuits and gravy to the burgers, it is hard to stay on a strict diet while eating here! Worth the wait.
(4)Robb R.
You will NOT go away from here hungry! The sandwiches and sides are enough for two people to share. Make sure you get here early for lunch the place fills up fast at noon!!

Heard so much about this place so we decided to venture out there for brunch. We must of had great timing b/c we didn't have to wait to be seated and it was the weekend. We ordered the eggs benedict and country fried steak. Eggs benedict was delish, the potatoes that came with it was also very good and flavorful. The country fried steak was a little soggier than we would like (mental note: ask for gravy on the side next time) and it was a bit bland. The grits were bland too and needed some livening up. Portions are huge so go there hungry, willing to share or wanting to take left overs home. Casual and the decor is definitely country comfort. Service is quick and fast. Family friendly and the price is affordable. Definitely a local style dive and has that friendly vibe. I could see bringing out of town guests visiting here for breakfast or brunch for a local feel. IMHO, it's better than Granny's in Crystal River both foodwise & decor for a local restaurant dive.

We love love love reds such a country atmosphere servers r awesome and the food is sooooo good and a good bit for ur money, the owner is super nice also. Love when they have the banjo players out side playing that is such a treat.
(5)Trish G.
This place is the absolute BEST hands down for breakfast. Red the owner is a nice guy too. Bacon n cheddar omelet. ..awesome. Biscuits n sausage gravy...yum.
(5)Sebastien M.
Reds was a different experience, to start off my feast the waitress's addressed with "what are you drinking" and then took my order of a nice glass of water. However, this water this water wasn't so nice it tasted like it was taken out of a park fountain. I then requested for a lemonade and I didn't receive for till the end of my meal, but wait I can't forget about my meal. I gotta give credit where credit is due, the egg they gave which at first wasn't even my order looked really good before she took it away.

Heard through others about this place and wanted to check it out. Well it was worth the drive. Ordered a mushroom Swiss and the burger is real. Not Sysco. I'll be back to try other items for sure. Chocolate cake is awesome.
(5)Bill B.
Went for lunch No one liked there food Fries were greasy and chewy Just because you get a lot doesn't Mean it's good My first and last visit
(2)Magnus D.
The food's okay, but not great. If you like Cracker Barrel, then you'll like this place. Large portions; if the food was better, that could be a plus. Always is busy and the staff is always in a frenzy. The tables don't get cleaned well enough between diners (part of this are because of the rough boards from which the tables are made).
(3)Curtis D.
We go here when visiting my in-laws in Ocala and they never disappoint. My favorite meal happens to be breakfast and the eggs Benedict at Red's rivals any of the breakfasts at the "fancy" New York City restaurants where we've eaten. The service is great and the servers are always hustling. Trust me, it's worth the wait.
(4)Rich R.
Never had a bad meal here. Food is always as described and bigger than expected. It's so good that it may be hard to get a seat during peak hours. We always go strategically to avoid the rush.

This place is a little gem in the middle of nowhere. Just kidding...it's a well known area if you live around there and just gorgeous country! Must agree with all of the other reviews....great atmosphere, excellent comfort food and super southern hospitality! And the people watching....that's worth the price of admission! :D --not an actual admission charge. Their tomato bisque is outstanding and the portions are quite large so come hungry or don't come at all. Oh and if you have a large party (like 10+) and come on the weekend, I would highly recommend calling and making reservations. Seriously. ;)

#PostingDiva #DivaDoesReviews is going to comment on this place! Every time we go, we have to wait in a huge line!!! WHY? Because this place is FAB-U-LOUS! We enjoy the country decor and the food. The food is off the chain. We love it. Check this place out for sure! Try their breakfast! I even love their lunches! Must try it all!
(4)Robb B.
Absolutely the best place for breakfast north of Tampa. Great food and service. Friendly, fast, high quality. Try French toast, Reds Western omelet, Eggs Benedict or anything else . The Chocolate cake is premier. Beati come il migliore a Inverness , per la mia famiglia

Excellent food, and even better service! The servers are great, and always hustling. The food is delicious, but seriously too much (if you're not an "I'll take the rest to go" type.) My club wrap was awesome, but almost too overflowing to eat. A good problem, I guess. The best (seriously!) Loaded Baked Potato soup I've ever had. Flavorful, not pasty or chalky, and the potatoes in the chowder were cooked perfectly. And did I mention the awesome staff? Next time I'm in the area, I will make another visit, and I ABSOLUTELY will recommend to friends and family.

This is the best place for breakfast. You walk in and it looks just like what you'd think a country restaurant should look like. There's a big fireplace roaring and cute quaint decorations everywhere. I was a little put off when I first got in because they wouldn't seat us (at the table already prepared for us) until the whole party was there, so we were cluttering up the small waiting area. But once we got seated, service was excellent. The food came out fresh and hot. It was so delicious too. Everyone in our large party was very happy with their food. We drove a while to get to this little hole in the wall restaurant, but we all agreed it was worth it.
