I had the unfortunate experience of visiting Nando on a Sunday night while I was visiting my grandmother in Florida. Although my grandmother is a snowbird, in the past, she has frequented this place on a fairly regular basis. The evening started off well enough, but was then interrupted by a tone-deaf regular who decided that he would serenade the place, which was comprised of at least 5-6 tables of seated customers. If you want to be accosted by someone who cannot sing, and a manager who will acquiesce to the man because, in her words, "he is regular," then this is your place. You can have mediocre food - a thin overcooked pork chop, over dressed salad, and an unbelievably obnoxious manager/owner, who would rather have her paying customers subjected to karaoke than an enjoyable dinner, then this is your place. Expect a karaoke bar, as opposed to a four-star restaurant; a manager that will fault you if you complain; and, a manager/owner who will cheer on a local tone deaf patron that frequents her establishment (the bar) all year long, while subjecting paying customers to vocal torture. Florida is saturated with wonderful Italian restaurants. This is no longer one of them.

This restaurant is a hidden gem. Okay, the service can sometimes be slow. But the food is worth the wait! The place gets busy! Relax! Have a beverage, and enjoy the music if you happen to be there when a live band is playing. But enjoy the food! It's great!

I'm a fan... Piano and bar. Piano bar. I was in town to shoot an episode of The Glades, and one of my first stops was Nando having seen the "Piano Bar" sign... Figured singing there one night would be a good way to spend an evening out of town... Well, within three hours of me landing in Florida, and twenty minutes after opening the door, the very talented pianist playing had me singing at the piano. I made it there one other time, which was a ton of fun... And when I did five songs... It might have been easier if I brushed up on my Sinatra and Dean Martin songs first, or had my sheet music with me, but still it was a blast. If I lived in the area I would imagine I'd be there semi-frequently... There's a picture of the white piano and my new Italian friend at the keys in my blog I posted about the trip... If I'm back to that area in the future, I'll stop back in. tomkiesche.wordpress.com…

Bad food, decor, dirty and cigarettes being smoked indoors -- all bad. The head waitress was smoking while working the till in a staging area between the dining room and kitchen. She was visible to our party, but denied smoking. Bathroom was tired, walls were dirty, no maintenance. Overall decor very tired. Food was bad -- my grouper was soggy and undercooked, one steak went back because almost raw and came back out almost black, ravioli was cold and had flavorless pink sauce. Service was very slow and inattentive -- 3 hours for a group of 8. Generally a bad experience, and it had been recommended by the hotel.

I don't usually eat Italian food when I go out. The concierge at our hotel recommended it though so my wife and I gave it a try. Well it's no Olive Garden...and that's a good thing! The Buffalo mozzarella starter was great, fresh made onsite, believe me I could tell. My wife though I would be disappointed when it arrived, but I assured her that no, I did not expect mozzarella sticks. On my recommendation she has the stuffed zucchini flower starter. Of course I recommended them cause I wanted to try them. They were great, now I know why the chefs on Top Chef(or one of those shows anyway) loved them. My entree was lamb shank. It was perfect, So tender I didn't even touch my knife and packed with flavor. It must have been slow cooked for hours. The accompanying goat cheese risotto was nice. Cooked perfectly and they didn't get heavy handed on the goat cheese, just enough to let you now it was there. Her entree was clam sauce and pasta. I wanted her to get the white sauce and she wanted the angel hair. The server tactfully suggested the cherry tomato sauce because it wouldn't overwhelm the clams, and the spaghetti (thin) because the angel hair would soak up too much of the sauce. She was right and right again. The clams were moist and tender, yeah she makes me eat half her food every time. Helps her stay thin, not sure I appreciate the impact on my waist though. Anyway the clam were not gritty, and the shells had been scrubbed. The sauce was a bit oily but my wife didn't notice. Over all light and flavorful Yeah I had desert too...I know but hey I don't go out much. The chocolate Tartufo was decadent and delicious just as a desert should be. Not sure if it was made in house, but it sure tasted like it was made by a professional pastry chef. Things to know: Weird but they give a 10% discount for cash. I paid cash. Piano player starts at 7 p.m. at least on Fridays so we missed it. Watch the menu pricing, sometime the check price is not the same. Sometimes you win, sometimes not And last but not least the water is filtered Overall we had a great meal, and finally learned what good Italian cooking tastes like.

Have been there for many years, and usually, the service and food were o.k.. But yesterday: first, the waitress didn't want to take my $25. coupon because it was Saturday. I asked her where it says not valid on Saturdays, then, she spoke to the manager and came back saying it was o.k. (seems they were doing me a favor). Then, I explained here I have celiac disease and have to eat gluten-free, and settle on a fish meal I can have. When my dish arrived, I had a breaded ball of potato/cheese. I can't have a crumb of bread or flour. She had to take it back and give me a new dish. However, we had waited for our meals for over 1 1/2 hrs already!!! The fish was good, but the levornese sauce was so salty, I could only have a little. I had to drink water all the rest of the evening. Nobody came to ask if all was to our liking, as good waiting people do usually, and nobody offered us coffee refills. I was paying for 2 of my friends in the party plus myself. When the bill arrived, the waitress hadn't credited the $25. Then, there was an item charged that nobody in our party had had. So, had to ask for her twice to credit the mistakes. I hate it when someone tries to take advantage of me. So, none among the 9 of us will return there.

Been to this restaurant a handful of times coming or leaving from cruises and have yet to have a bad experience. The Veal Parmesan and the chicken Parmesan are great. The Caesar salad is delicious and you can tell the dressing is homemade. The staff was very attentive with water and fresh grated cheese. Plus if you pay cash they offer a 15% discount. Definitely recommend it.

I absolutely enjoyed our visit at Nando. This place reminds me of the old style Italian, red wine, white table cloths, great piano with Italian love songs. I highly recommend this place! And by the way, the best bone-in veal chop anywhere!

A very nice upscale Italian restaurant . On the Thursday night we were there we arrived at 6:30 with a reservation and by 7:30 the restaurant was full. Nice mix of patrons, for Hallandale, not all old or young. The food is reasonable if you order the regular menu, the specials can get a bit pricey. I would say it was very good but not super... Definately worth a try....

I brought my friend here for his birthday. I didn't realize that the majority of patrons would be dressed up. So, we sat at the bar. The bartender was very accommodating and she gave us a wine list. I ordered the pasta with clams. My friend ordered the veal with vegetables. I was a little disappointed with his dish. The vegetables came after his main course was served. My pasta was cooked perfectly. The atmosphere is one of an old style Italian restaurant and they have someone playing piano. I thought it was a little expensive for what is was.

I went to this restaurant few weeks ago and i am not impressed by anything, First, its located in a cheap shady shopping center. The lights inside the restaurant are brighter than a hospital! They Really need to dim those lights and fix the decor. The food i had let's say i had better. The place is packed with senior citizens, not much diversity. I think its over priced, music was blah. The drink was bad didnt even finish it. I gave my 1 star for the piano,

It is a great place to people watch. Service is not so fast but very courteous. The food was somewhat close to a home cooked meal but i definitely suggest going for the piano show. They rotate singers and the owner sings a couple of songs and gets people to chime in. I would go again.

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
