We've been coming here for years and have always had great meals, specifically on magical pizza Tuesday's! After spending what amounts to a month in Italy, Pia's was the closest thing to real Italian pizza in Tampa Bay. I said was as I was just informed that pizza is no longer served, at all. As a pizza junkie, all I can say is that I'm really heartbroken. The rest the menu is awesome, especially the nightly specials. The appetizers, specifically the sugar grapes, are to die for. The service is another matter entirely. Being located in a high tourist area, you'd think they'd have a better disposition towards their customers, but that's not the case. Service takes forever, just to get a drink, let alone the attitude of the server once she finally takes your order, or is bothered to do so.

Yes, yes, yes! The waitress was really fun, informed and efficient. The lunch special, chicken parmesean with linguini was superb. And the bruchetta with fresh juicy tomatoes, arugula, red onions, oregano and basalmic vingerette very tasty indeed. The cannaloni sausage soup was spicy and delicious, very Tuscan. The Italian garden patio: charming and well designed, with old timey tablecloths. The music was opera, Beatles, country, jazz, blues and all very tasteful. The original local art inside was a pleasure.

This was my first experience eating out in Gulfport, and I really enjoyed it. The outdoor patio dining was beautiful and unique, like a hidden treasure. The garden area had a romantic ambiance. The pasta is fresh and the sauce = delicious. The servings are plentiful but it was so good we didn't leave anything on the plate. Service was extremely slow, however our waiter was incredibly attentive so I think the issue was in the kitchen. Great place for a date as long you don't mind slow service.

We had a fantastic experience at Pia's. Interior or exterior it couldn't be more charming. We sat outside at a picnic style table. Food and drinks were for the most part, exceptional. I had linguini with clams and they were incredible. My wife had the prima vera and was less enthusiastic, but it was still very good. All in all the ambiance wills the food to a higher rating. Our only knock was that the pace of our meal was too slow. Now, I like a well paced meal, mind you. For a tourist destination on spring break, they could have turned tops at a break neck pace if they wanted, but they didn't. But we had an elderly woman and two little kids. Dinner took two hours. That's just too long. And I wanted to think it was part if their natural MO, but our meals weren't very hot. That tells me they were off their timing. Worth the wait? You bet, absolutely. And thank the baby Jesus our kids were exceptional that night. (And they were very kid friendly for such a fine place). But know if you have little ones, you will be pushing them to edge of their wee abilities.

We have eaten at Pia's twice now. Great food. We have eaten outside both times, and as long as the weather is good, you should have a great experience. I have spoken with Pia in the past. She is a very hands on owner. The food is delicious, and it's a fun quirky atmosphere.

I just recently had my husband's surprise 30th birthday party in Pia's courtyard out back. I wanted this night to be incredibly special for him, so I contacted Pia in advance and planned the occasion. I'd never been here before, so I was strictly going off of Yelp reviews and photos and taking a leap of faith. When my husband and I walked in, I may have been almost as surprised as he was. The outside was set up to PERFECTION. The details and table décor were so tastefully and beautifully done (by Pia herself)... and the food was just delicious! Everyone, a party of about 25, was pleased. Can't wait to return with my husband for a date night. Thank you, Pia!!

We ordered spicy food it was not spicy. The service was awful. The waitress called my daughters a lesbian couple. Avoid at all cost!

First time here, we herd the muscles were good and someone in our party want to go for them, she was not disappointed, food was very good, kitchen is a little slow but we had a good time talking, we tried the Apple butter cake desert and was not crazy about it but everything else was very good, When in Gulfpoert and looking for Italian food we would go back again

So I Was told by more than a couple people upon moving to Gulfport that Pia's was the place to get the best Italian food in town. Finally got around to visiting the other day and the food lived up to the hype. Nestled in a garden like atmosphere Pia's is a charming little spot with character. It's upscale dining without being pretentious. The prices are fair (the wine is a bit overpriced) and the food is homemade and delicious. The place is surprisingly bigger than it looks from the outside and is always packed. I went with the lasagna on my visit and it was one of the best I've ever had with beschemel sauce replacing the ricotta, it was delicious. The side salad was so so, but the asparagus soup and grilled octopus were excellent. I was not impressed with the wine, and even less impressed with the fact they don't even fill half the glass. Next time I'll order a cocktail. Overall, it was a fun night and a cozy little spot for legit Italian food.

Went to Pia's for dinner tonight....it was great! The calamari appetizer is amazing...I've never had it like this before....not fried, but sautéed...wonderful! Sat outside and it was just lovely...the lighting, the seating...everything about the ambience was perfect. Will definitely be going back! Well worth the drive from Tampa.

The food is great here but they don't know the meaning of customer service....skinny older male waiter there is rude and and majority of the other employees are the same. They would get 5 stars from me if that were to change.

Pias is a great little restaurant. Cozy old world atmosphere. Their specials are always great and the pasta dishes can't be beat. They have a wonderful salad dressing called salsa verde. Also the chocolate Panna Cotta is wonderful. Great service as well.

I dined @ Pia's back in May when I was visiting Gulfport. The outdoor seating is quaint. After having visited the Mediterranean, the outdoor seating area put me in the mind of a trattorias I had the pleasure of dining at. The young lady who was the waitstaff was attentive without hovering and very friendly. It was lunchtime so it wasn't crowded at all, maybe two other diners were seated outside along with me. Another couple came in after I was there for a few minutes. They appeared to be regulars. Started with a very nice glass of prosecco; afterwards, I ordered the lunch special of scallops and risotto which was very good. So good, in fact, that I told the young lady serving me that if they had the same exact special on the menu the next day, I would come back! I picked this establishment for all the positive reviews I'd read. Thankfully, I can add my own to the list, as it did not disappoint.

Wonderful atmosphere and attentive staff. I loved the antipasto platter, yum! The lasagna was a bechamel style and not much flavor. The bolognese sauce was good. I don't understand why you couldn't order pappardelle noodles with bolognese sauce, it was only offered for the special of the day. I would give it another try but I think I would stick to the specials of the day.

This was the best meal I had on my trip. Absolutely amazing. We came in for lunch, were greeted and told to sit wherever we'd like. We sat outside in the garden. Adorable atmosphere and would be perfect for a date. We had a house Cab and bloody Mary (both delicious). The bread and olive oil was delicious and we ordered Caprese, which also did not disappoint. I ordered the lobster fettuccini which was one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. All in all, I give it 5 stars for the good, service, and atmosphere.

Even if you happen to be a local to St Pete you might not have heard of Pia's. If this is the case, you are missing out on a very pleasant and consistently good dining experience over in Gulfport, a hidden gem of an area all on its own. The Mrs and I love Pia's in part for it's dimly-lit, romantic, and laid back atmosphere; it is perfect for a date or to share an intimate meal with a close group of friends or family. We continue to come back to because the food can be quite good, at times some of the better food we've had in St Pete, served at a reasonable price and unpretentiously. The best tip I can offer for you to get the best out of Pia's is to always order the specials. The items on the 'regular' menu are passably good, but the best cooking is always with whatever is on special that week. There is usually always an app, fish, and meat special, maybe more. It is really as if Pia's would prefer to always just serve specials, but they have this traditional menu that I've sort of started to look at like, well, a kiddie menu of sorts. This is partly why I give Pia's 4 stars instead of 5. The offerings on the regular menu are solid and inoffensive, but they simply aren't ever as good as the specials. The inside dining at Pia's is nice, with a couple intimate 8-person party rooms, the main 'wine room' and the small bar area. Each have their merits and the atmosphere is always comfortable, although the wine room can get a bit loud if the restaurant is crowded. Outside, they have a large and pleasant covered courtyard with a lot of tables, dim lighting, and an nice garden feel. My only complaint, and the reason why we rarely sit outside, is that the outdoor tables are mostly picnic-style tables with bench seating with no backs. This is a pretty nice restaurant, romantic, with good food, where you will linger, and I really feel that there is a bit of an oversight here on the part of the restaurateur in connecting guest comfort with the quality of the overall experience. Who wants to have a romantic dinner at a picnic table? If you do, then cool, you are all set, but for me I don't want to sit at a picnic table for two hours. But I also dislike camping, so there you go. I would like to give Pia's 5 stars, and have had some 5-star experiences there. The waitstaff is awesome, the restaurant is romantic, the food is often great, but the regular menu items are sometimes just ok and the picnic tables outside force me to deduct one star.

Very nice romantic candle all over the room and the food is spectacular! I love everything I have ever gotten on the menu and they have specials every night that are very good as well. The first 4 times I went there I got the specials which I still remember because thats how good it was! It was Red Snapper over Couscous. It was so good I went back within the next 2 days and they still had it so I had to get it again. They don't have that all the time though since that was a nightly special. Their Calamari was very good to, Its not fried but its more seared but the flavor is amazing. I haven't had anything I have regretted yet.

Eating at Pia's is like drinking from the fountain of knowledge, or at least it seemed that way when our waiter arrived. He comfortably, casually, and quickly dropped so much knowledge. I am far to wordy, so it's a good think I don't have his job. To sum it up, organic, local, and with so much love. Pia's really takes pride in the art of locally sourced cooking. The waiter knew so much about the food and where it came from and how it was prepared. Thanks to all of our waiter's knowledge, it was a spectacularly intimate eating experience. I'd been to Pia's a few times before, but never for a solid meal. The ambiance is wonderful. Set in an old library with lots of library antiques incorporated into the decor. Very fitting considering the knowledgable waiter. The patio is also lovely, but I really like the indoor seating better. The chairs needed some cushions and there were mosquitos this night (yes I know it is Florida). This being my first sold meal at Pia's (and not just drinks and snacks), I went with the Chicken Parm. WOW it was so filling and very delicious. An Italian Restaurant staple done solid. Nothing extraordinarily special about the Chicken Parm, it seemed to do everything right without being over cooked or under cooked. Juicy chicken, slightly browned cheese and noodles at the perfect consistency. While the Chicken Parm was really good, what really has me excited to go back is the specials. Now, and not just because I know how solid an Italian staple like the Chicken Parm is, but mainly because of hearing all the locally sourced knowledge come out of the waiters head, I want to try all of their specials. They are only available until the local ingredients run out, then they get new specials. I am reluctant to even tease you all with the ones I considered because they are surely gone now. Seriously, just come check out Pia's if you haven't already.

My first time here and it was delicious and the waitress was great. Saw some Panini's walk by and they were huge and looked equally as delicious as the pasta we got. I'll be back many times I'm sure.

The set up at this place is adorable. It's worth the trip just to sit there. I had an espresso martini first, then I had another. So good! My boyfriend had a tequila coffee martini that the bartender said was his concoction, that was also great. We ordered the calamari, which is sautéed and it was interesting. It tasted ok, the sauce it was in was really good. We also had the gnocchi special with shallots and that was awesome. Most of their specials looks really good. I ordered the primavera with penne pasta as the main dish. The sauce was good but it could have had more veggies in it. It was a good portion tho and I would order it again. The boyfriend ordered one of the spicy pasta dishes (can't remember the name), he said it was good but it tasted like it needed to be a meat sauce. I agreed with that. For our two drinks, two apps, and two main courses it was about $100. I thought it was an ok price but I wish I would have been wowed a little more by the flavors. I would definitely go back tho.

Had an unexpectedly amazing salad. Salate pia, but switched to Gorgonzola dressing and added blackened chicken. I added some hot peppers and oil on top. Best salad in my memory. My girls had homemade pasta primavera and marinara-- looked wonderful and they raved. Great service as well.

Had dinner there for the first time tonight. From the Calamari Appetizer to the Tiramisu dessert everything was amazing. Some of the best food I've had in this area. Will be back again. The place is very interesting, the staff friendly and knowledgeable. Pia the owner was right there working. Setting up tables and checking on things. Really worth a visit if you are anywhere close.

I'm almost afraid to say how much we really love Pia's for fear that our special little place will become overrun with people. The plain truth is that Pia's is wonderful on every level. The wine, the menu, the service, the atmosphere.. We've gone to Pia's for date night, a night with friends, and business dinners and it never fails to delight and impress! Whatever mood you're in, it will be elevated by a trip to Pias. Gulfport is such a cute town, we like to park far away and enjoy the walk. After dinner, we're happy to walk off some of the amazing calories we just injested. Our faves: Antipasti, chicken parmesan with homemade noodles, nut-crusted grouper (the best special ever!), every type of risotto they've ever made, and simply, but perfectly... the bread. Best beer: Franzikaner; Best wine: any of the chiantis. So go ahead and go to Pias, but please don't linger because now we'll be eagerly waiting for our table :)

We took our family of six to Pia's earlier this week, the bill was $224.00 before tip. It was not a great experience. First off, I ordered ginger ale, but they were out. Still charged for it. The waiter was VERY nice, but appeared untrained. I ordered the Salmon appetizer, which ended up to be my favorite bite at Pia's. My husband ordered the special Grouper, which was good but it was grouper bites or nuggets, not a filet. He and my daughter both ordered salads w/ Gorgonzola dressing. The dressing was watery, tasteless and looked like murky, blue cheese colored water. (Complaint lodged w/ waiter.) The pepper grinder on our table was completely empty so we got up and swapped it from an empty table. When the entrees were served, we had no silverware which were removed after the appetizers/salads, so we sat and stared at our nice hot plates for a few minutes while waiter retrieved the final entrée from the kitchen and also the silverware, due to our having to request it. My Veal Marsala was so salty it was inedible. The sauce tasted as if out of a can, same with my son's Picata, not homemade like website states. When the waiter came back and I told him, he took it back to the kitchen. Less then 5 minutes later he came back with another plate and said, "The cooks tasted it and said you're right, it's too salty." But -- they brought back my original piece of veal, not a new piece of meat. Therefore.... 1) They tasted from MY plate and then gave it back to me and 2) How did they get the salty sauce off the meat to re-serve it to me? Did they wash it off in the sink? Both thoughts are GROSS. Not impressed with Pia's.

Top notch! A place you come and bring a date, sit outside in the gorgeous garden and enjoy the amazing food! Order ANYTHING! You will not be disappointed! Ran by a lovely woman who really cares about the quality of her guests experience. And in the end, you will walk out with a full belly and a smile on your face. I am so happy to be new neighbor with a such beautiful establishments.

I have never received such poor service, nor been so insulted. I love Gulfport, and had every intention of liking this restaurant, but after sitting for 2 hours during which our waitress kept repeatedly telling us "45 more minutes", my party and I get up to leave, and the bartender (her name is KATIE) challenges us, taunting us, and says "where are you going? where else are you going to go?" implying we'd better stay or else. To which I had some choice words, and left. Some in my party stayed, and at the end of all of this they comped NOT ONE SINGLE THING. EVERYTHING ORIGINALLY ORDERED WAS CHARGED AND PAID FOR - INCLUDING MY ORDER WHICH I WALKED OUT ON. Unacceptable "service", unacceptable behavior from staff - I will never, ever set foot in this establishment again, and plan to spread the word of how terrible the service is as far and wide as possible. With the variety of wonderful choices of restaurants in Gulfport, WHY would anyone choose to support this dump?

We sat outdoors on the 4th. Lovely restaurant. Though there was the occasional screaming child, the meals were delightful. Fresh bread with olive oil and sun dried tomatoes are complimentary. We ordered bruschetta. Probably the best I have ever tried. Fresh and abundant were the tomatoes and red onion. What I liked most was that the bread was not hard, it was toasted perfectly! I ordered the farfalle with bolognese sauce. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the sauce was delish! The recipes are original from the owners grandmother and great grandmother and are incredibly authentic. My aunt had the calamari. It is not fried but cooked to perfection in a very European style lemon cream sauce. My partner had the lasagna which was to die for. The flavors are unique and singular and wonderful. Our meal was solidly marvelous through and through. This restaurant should be on everyone's stop to Gulfport! BTW met the owner Pia, she is amazing. I asked her about the awful review by some delusional customer named Michelle and complimented her, on her response. She said that perhaps it was not the wisest choice as a business owner, but she felt that the "review" was a horrible misrepresentation of the facts! Bravo Pia! Some folks will never be satisfied and will create their own realities to justify their irrational behaviors! Keep doing what you do best...making your customers feel at home!

I want to love this place. I really do. I adore the atmosphere and staff are always friendly. However, the place has been hit and miss over the years. There have been occasions where they've run out of ingredients for the meals I really wanted. And then there were times where pasta sauce was drowning the pasta. On the flip side, I've had melt in your mouth paninis and brunch specials. I need more consistency from this restaurant for me to add additional stars to my review.

This restaurant has one of the most authentic Italian cuisine. It makes you feel like you visit Old Village restaurant in Italy. The food is homemade from scratch with natural ingredients. It pays really good. Prices are affordable. Service is great. We're definitely going to come back

What a cute rustic and elegant place! I came on a Saturday evening with a couple of friends. As I walked up to the restaurant, I noticed the building right away. It was very rustic and looked like an Italian restaurant. It reminded me of something from a movie where the setting took place in Italy. It was beautifully painted and had vines hanging all around it. They had seating outside on the sidewalk and in the back as well as inside. My friends and I choose to sit inside in the bar area next a large window. We could see the sidewalk and it was a nice view. The inside decor matched the outside. It was pleasing to the eye. For starters, I had a glass of the Peter Brum Reisling and it average, but good nonetheless. They offer baked bread with a red pepper pesto with olive oil. The bread was fresh and the dip was very good. I also enjoyed the butternut squash with caramelized onion soup and was so creamy and delicious. For my entree, I ordered the black grouper special. The fish was lightly seasoned and grilled to perfection. The lemon sauce that topped it was to die for. It was paired with a asiago risotto and sautéed spinach. These sides were amazing. I had more than enough and was able to make two meals out of it. The service was spectacular too! I can't wait to go back to try something new.

Pia's is super great. My wife and I stopped in for dinner while on vacation last week and honestly, I don't think either of us were expecting to find much more than a decent meal in Gulfport, much less one of the best overall dining experiences we've had in a long time. We were seated outside on the back patio, which is cozy but not crowded. Our server, Rachael, was top notch the entire night. Attentive but not overbearing, and very sweet. When we had a question about wine she wasn't afraid to say "I don't know" and bring in the help of another server (Frankie, I believe) who provided us with a great recommendation. My wife and I started with an appetizer of oyster mushrooms with arugula and crostini. Simple but very tasty. For our entrees I had seared mahi with sage mashed potatoes and garlic spinach. My wife had one of the evening's specials, agnolotti with buffalo meat. The mahi was cooked perfectly with a great sear on the outside. The potatoes were smooth and the sage wasn't overpowering. My wife's pasta was fantastic. Such a great special. For dessert I ordered a cannolo, which was among the best I've ever had, and my wife had a slice of pie with green apple and ricotta(?). It was also very, very good. If you're in Tampa or St. Pete it's worth the drive for dinner at Pia's. What a great place.

This place was amazing! We loved absolutely everything about the place. The interior ambiance was so pretty. Service was very, very good. And all the food we tried was absolutely amazing. We had a couple different types of pastas and an appetizer. Literally there were no scraps of food left on our plates by the time we were done. This is such a cool little place and is really a gem to be found in that area of st. Petersburg. It's not cheap, but it is definitely worth it. Don't hesitate to go.

Amazing restaurant for date night or just for want of good Italian food. The ambiance is cozy and casual. The food is always spot on, never disappoints. I always like trying the special of the day. Be sure to try the gnocchi if it is available. And save room for dessert!

Outstanding food! Excellent ambiance! Superb Service! Am not one to give such high marks to any establishment, but there is no negatives here. Our server, Danielle, exceeded our expectation of what we look for in perfection. She knew the menu quite well, made suggestions when we asked, and was on top of all the current specials and intricacies of each plate. Her friendly manner and attention was incredible, we will request to have her serve us, as we noticed a party of 12 did so specifically as she took our order. This place hits it out of the ballpark! I see many returns for celebrations and/or any ole time. The positive memories I have of my first visit cannot be over-expressed. The romantic feel and flavor of this place rocks! My wife and I throughly enjoyed the charm and comfort in the outside patio. Geez, I am running out of room, but cannot stop raving about this place. Cannot believe we hadn't tried it before. Hope the secret doesn't get out too much, but I would suggest it to everyone. Hope the owner's keep things as they are and stay open til my dying days. Kudos!

Florida is overloaded with big chain restaurants and it's a rare find a homemade, top quality italian restaurant in tampa/st pete. This is one of the exceptions. The food is all homemade and the atmosphere is second to none in the area. A perfect date spot too with an old italian feel and burning candles with wax overflowing everywhere. I tried the gnocci and sausage on special and also ate a good amount of my girlfriends chicken marsala. Both were delicious! This is a gem for all you foodies!

I'm giving this place two stars just because the atmosphere is nice. My mother and sister had two specials, they were just OK. I had the Di Bolonga, aka Bolognese. It was really subpar. If I was the chef, I would have been embarrassed to serve it. It tasted like a jar of Ragu straight off a Wal-Mart shelf. I was starving, the waitress was no where to be found, so I forced down 1/2 of it. So then The table next to us sent back a pasta dish as well, I believe it was some kind of pesto. I should have too... Now there are people who think a jar of Ragu is great. I imagine these are the people who give this place a good rating. If you have any inkling of what good Italian food is, you will not like this place.

We were greeted outside by our server for lunch. We enjoyed everything about our meal. My lasagna was definitely the best I have ever had. My wife had the Chilean Sea bass that was a current day "special". It was very special and we both agreed it was also the best we ever had. The pasta, sea bass, and lasagna were all very fresh. We had a Calamari appetizer and it was pan fried not deep fried. Very good ! If you are looking for authentic Italian you will not be disappointed. Service was excellent and the place is like you are in a small quaint home in Tuscany. Nice job Pia's and we will be back tomorrow.

Well, I was highly recommended to this restaurant through this site and a relative..so I was looking forward to it. I stopped in on a busy night to make a reservation for Sunday and thought the 'garden' setting at night was pretty but decided to book inside because of the air conditioning. When we came back on Sunday the inside was stuffy, I even asked if the a/c was on. Seems there had been an issue with it.. and throughout our meal, it never got cool. just tolerable. hence my 2 star ambience rating. I went outside to look to see if we should eat there instead, and I was so surprised to see those mismatched yard sale looking tablecloths, picnic bench seats.. blah blah..without people blocking my view..., I could see the 'pretty garden setting' looking tacky.. especially considering the prices on the menu. I think they could do a whole lot more with that space. The lighting and greenery helps but... ? back to the food. We ordered a carafe of chardonnay.. which was good,.. I think about $ 24. Server was extremely pleasant, Bread was good. The last day of vacationing had us overfull from lunch so both couples decided to share appetizers .. Server agreed to splitting our salad on separate plates ( but didn't offer to do the same for our other party?) Salad was good. Our dinner was chicken marsala, and was uninteresting...and there wasn't enough sauce... I have never seen such a dry marsala dish!! I asked for more sauce, a small amount more came ( it also apeared $ 3 on the bill, which she removed) once I had more, I realized I wasn't crazy about the flavor of the sauce . I didn't eat much. The bigger dissappointment was the veal saltimbocca. My companion.. who works in a restaurant said he had never ever seens such a preparation.. To understand what he meant, I looked it up online, and how they prepared it, ruined it for him. He took one bite and put his fork down. I have no idea why he didn't refuse it. He hates to make a scene, brought it home for his son. the fourth member was happy with her dish, but I cant even remember what it was. The There were only a few deserts and none o fthem were tempting. all in all, the restaurant visit was... at best... forgettable,

Ordered a snapper special and unfortunately it was not exceptional. The fish was over cooked, however fish is not a menu standard for Pia's. I wouldn't mind giving them another try, but my first experience did not seem to match most reviews.

I went here with my little sister and it was amazing! We got the chicken parm and primavera farfalle. There was the perfect amount of sauce and the parm was the best I've had! The ambiance and outdoor tiki is so adorable! Great for friends or a date night!

Came here on a Sunday day after Valentine's Day. Very busy. Ambiance excellent food excellent. However, service was slow. We got a bottle of wine and Calamari app right away but we waited over an hour for our entrees. I realize they were busy but our sever was not very attentive. Since food was good I would give them another try; on a week night.

I was in Gulfport this past weekend, visiting my friend for her birthday. I couldn't resist trying this place. It was very cute and I just love a good Panini sandwich. Although the Panini sandwich was very good, and it was a super large portion, I was in love with their bruschetta. Hands down, it was the BEST bruschetta I ever had.

Beautiful outside courtyard where you can enjoy a nice lunch while feeling lucky to live in Florida. We decided to do a communal type lunch where we got a Salmone di Capri and Italian Platter to share and individually got salads. I got the Di Rucola e Parmiggiano and it was huge. I think there was too much cheese with three huge slices and I ended up leaving about a third of the cheese on my plate. However, the greens was nice and fresh and it would make for a great lunch on its own. The two appetizers were absolutely divine. I highly suggest both of them. They are pretty large as well and you would want to share with at least one other person or it could even be your entree. If you are sitting outside, beware of mosquitos. The only thing that put a damper on this lovely lunch was I got three mosquito bites around my ankles. This is hardly the fault of the restaurant, but I put it out there as a warning.

Pia's has a great location, superb outside dining area, but the food is not anything special.... For dinner, I had the scallop-sausage-shrimp pasta in white wine sauce - it wasn't bad by any means, but this is Gulfport - you need to bring some unique flavors to the table to stand out. Piling a bunch of meats onto a bland dish does not make it any less bland! My girlfriend ordered a glass of wine (it was 7 dollars-ish, and they brought out the glass less than half full, pretty chintzy!) Service was questionable as well...long waits even though the crowd was minimal. The server would vanish inside for epic amounts of time...she failed to write anything down for our order (always a warning sign) and audibly sighed when asked to split the bill, though we asked from the very outset that it would be separate checks (of course she didn't write it down, so that was clearly our fault) The warm bread was, however, GREAT! The other two times I was here was for breakfast. Both times were lackluster and the with the same service issues (including the exact same issue with the separate checks, resulting in an added 10-15 minutes of waiting to have it corrected!) The benedict I had on my first visit was standard fare, and I swear I have never encountered more dry, tough English muffins at any previous restaurant. I couldn't even cut them with a knife and fork! Breakfast should not be a frustrating experience. The Italian "Crespelle" I had on the second visit was just sad & cold when it finally arrived to my table. It is a rolled crepe-like item with hazelnut chocolate inside and bananas. It was very unappetizing (and cold). Bottom line - lovely atmosphere inside and out, but only average fare at higher than average prices.

This place is great, food is amazing, calamari is done the right way. Pasta is all good. Its enhoyable to sit at the bar with wine or relax outside under cover. I wish I lived closer, this is a St Pete favorite.

Great garden setting outside, and found myself in the Old Country when I ventured into the indoor area. The daily specials are delectable! Menu offers an array of Italian favorites prepared with great care. Our server, Ashley, was very attentive, and the bill was reasonable.

Came to street for Mexican food at Pegs on a Monday they were closed. Glad they were as the food here was the best I have ever had. I had the spicy arriabata. 4 kids and wife all agreed the best we have had. The May had primavera with chicken and vegetables were amazing as well. Desert was canoli and tiramisu. Frankie our waiter also was a real pro. Highly recommended.

Such a fantastic experience at lunch, we returned for dinner that same evening. Lunch: A slow and exquisite, romantic garden meal. Fresh hot bread... pinot grigio for her and moretti for him... elegantly prepared calamari... salad misto and salad pomodori. Espresso for the perfect finish. Opera music under the palapa. Dinner: Candlelight and music... Caprese Salad... Chianti and Moretti... Chicken Marsala with asparagus and linguine... Capellini with red pesto... and a cannoli to go-li Really phenomenal food, service, ambiance.

I'm almost hesitant to give this place 5 stars, but when I think back on my meal, every morsel from service, to seating, to food and drink were perfection!!! We were a large group, midday on a Friday, which meant the restaurant was near-empty, and we were seated in a quaint little room with a large wooden table and sun-filled windows. Our server was casual and efficient with excellent recommendations. The bread and olive oil with sun-dried (mash?) was outstanding. I had a late-day, perfectly spiced bloody-mary. We had the Salmon di Capri, which was really delicious. I've been into horseradish lately and was pleasantly surprised when I saw this combination on the menu. But it was subtle and well executed. The Bruschetta was heaping with fresh tomatoes! I had the Di Rucola e Parmiggiano and added shrimp ... just fantastic. Everything was so fresh, and the shrimp was warmed, added bonus for attention to detail. Other highlights included the La Primavera, Pesto Rosso and the Lasagna. I didn't have dessert or coffee, but my fellow diners seemed quite pleased. Overall, Gulfport Florida is a sweet and cute little area I highly recommend.

I'm a local and go here often. Dark and romantic atmosphere inside and beautiful lighted porch outside. Best Italian food I've ever had. Get their lasagna (even if it doesn't show it on the menu, it's a special) and a glass of wine and your life will be changed.

Food, atmosphere, drinks, and service was all excellent. Very impressed throughout the entire dining experience here at Pia's. Me and my boyfriend spent hours enjoying wine, appetizers, dinner, and dessert I love that fact that we weren't rushed like other restaurants often do.

If there was an option to give more stars, I would. This place is out of this world incredible. You walk in and are greeted by pleasant hostesses who seat you in a gorgeous part of the restaurant. Every inch of this place is gorgeous. It's very rustic and very, very charming. We started with apps, which were awesome! They had zucchini and onion soup on special which was so light and fresh! My martini of choice was the strawberry and basil. It's a must try! My entree I swear was sent directly from heaven. They had a beef tenderloin with mashed potatoes and asparagus on special. When I got it it was SO tender I really didn't need a knife! It melted in my mouth and the caramelized onions added even more texture. I'm not one to eat every since morse on my plate, but I did and have no shame! If you have not been here before, I can only describe it as one of the 7 wonders of the world. If you have, well, then you know what I'm talking about!

Pia's Trattoria is an awesome restaurant! So awesome, in fact, that we dined there twice within three days. It is a cozy, romantic restaurant with candles, an outdoor space and great italian music playing in the background (love Andrea Bocelli)! We had Bruschetta to start and it was the best I'd ever eaten - tons of tomatoes! Bread was fresh with a great dipping oil. For dinner, the pasta was amazing and the sauce was delicious (we had lasagne and veal parm). For dessert, I have no words for how delicious the Tiramisu was. I think that no matter what you order at Pia's, you will not be disappointed. A shout out to Scott who served us on the first night and on the second night I'm sorry I don't remember her name but they were both wonderful servers. We will be back! :)

Ambience is excellent. The food has that real, authentic, Italian flavor. Prices are great for what you get. The bread is out of this world. They even accommodated us by making a kid's portion out of a meal that they normally don't have one. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

This is a cute little spot in Gulfport. We sat in the dining room as the patio was already full--our fault for not making a reservation. We picked this spot because they boast a Gluten Free menu--unusual for an Italian restaurant. The pasta was really good. And the ribeye was to die for. Totally delicious. The pesto sauce for the pasta left something to be desired, but maybe that's just my funny taste buds. Who knows. Based on the food alone, I'd give the place 4 stars. I docked a star for the service. It was slow. And I'm not convinced all of our food was gluten-free. Or that our waitress understood we were ordering gluten free food. After asking for the GF menu, she informed us she had it memorized, that there was no separate menu. I ordered GF pasta. Beloved ordered the ribeye (with a sauce I later discovered is almost always made with flour, so--not sure if it was actually GF). She then promptly brought a large basket of gluten-filled regular bread. I hope I'm wrong. And I hope the service was just off that night. I'd go back again, but I'd be quick to inquire about the cooking methods and confirm the GF options with someone who shows a bit more confidence.

Very nice place, great ambience, you feel like your in Italy. Outside eating area very cozy. I had the chicken Marsala and it was delicious! Fresh Italian bread, great red wine and salad. I really liked it here and will be back. Only thing I would say is that there side pasta should be a larger portion. Pasta is not costly and I feel it was not enough on your plate..

My experience here was okay. It was my friend's choice for dinner before wandering Gulfport for a while. Yes, it was a busy Friday night, so we were seated outside in their heated patio. It was also really chilly out so they had the plastic curtain/wall covering/things to block the wind down. This would have been okay other than the wind kept blowing them around and the metal rod in the bottom of them (used to weight it down) kept knocking the table the entire night. My friend tried moving a chair to the outside of the curtain thing to keep it from moving but it didn't really help. But I digress... The place has a great location on the main drag in Gulfport. While we were seated quickly, our server was MIA for a while. I poked through the menu some and was curious about the specials. The table next to us (seated after us) got all that information before us, so I made my decision after overhearing her tell them. I ended up ordering the lasagna special because truthfully, I wasn't too impressed with the rest of the menu. My friend raved about some of the appetizers, but no real comment on entrees so... They started us off with some bread and seasoned olive oil. My friend ended up getting the soup of the day and seemed to like it. Same with the bruschetta (which is one of the things she raved about before). The lasagna arrived and it felt like a bit of a small portion. I probably would have ordered a side salad or something too had I known. Or I could have sucked it up and spent $17 on chicken-something-or-other. Barring that, it had a nice flavor and was definitely worth eating. It feels like the price is a bit higher than what it was worth, and service was definitely a little lacking. If dinner blew my mind, I would add a star.

Here again, but this time for lunch. Lunch menu is smaller than the doner menu, but doesn't disappoint. Good selection of starters, pastas, mussels and a whole page of sandwiches. Opted here for the Caprese salad and Calamari, both from the starter menu. Had the Caprese salad separated into two servings (see pic). Nicely presented, ripe tomatoes, rich mozzarella, basil and accented by a delicious balsamic glaze. The Calamari is outstanding, but not served typically like in most restaurants. At Pia's its served whole. Lightly dusted with flour, sauteed, and drizzled with most delicious fried garlic (see pic). It would make a good appetizer for two or in this case, paired with a salad, a perfect lunch.

I was soo looking forward to an awesome meal and eating experience after all I heard and read but sorry to say my husband and I were very disappointed. The best part of the meal was the ambiance and the mixed green salad w/goat cheese and roasted pears which was very good and enough for 2 to share. The pasta dough on the lobster ravioli small plate (1 -not two are stated by the server) was thick and hard. The filling and sauce were ok. As far as the veal piccata, the veal was quite good but the 'sauce' was quite awful -- not to mention very thick. I had a taste of my friend's meat lasagna and it too was awful...very doughy and mushy. The server failed to mention that the fish dish was a WHOLE fish, bones, head and all. While our friend said he enjoyed it and didn't mind the fact that it was whole. If anyone else at the table had ordered it.. myself included.. it would have gone back to the kitchen uneaten. Not only did the server give us incorrect information and leave out some critical details, he was responsive only when we asked for things.. like silverware, small dishes, water, bread, missing salads.

This is really a lovely little restaurant. I dined alone so I can not speak to all that they offer but my mussels in white wine were excellent. I also asked a few of the friendly patrons seated at the bar with me what they thought of their meals and they raved about all of it. I admittedly had a couple of cocktails but I found Pia to be very amusing. The staff are attentive and the chefs are really making great food with fresh ingredients. Bottom line, if you're in Gulfport you should treat yourself to a meal at Pia's. If you're not in Gulfport you should still treat yourself to a meal at Pia's.

YUM! We are moving to Gulfport and our realtor suggested that we checkout Pia's to get a feel for what the quaint little town has to offer, and boy were we pleasantly surprised. Walking into Pia's is like crossing the Atlantic to Italy. The atmosphere is top notch, and I suggest dining outside as it is the perfect date night spot. The food is delicious and the wine selection good. They have nightly dinner specials that are always delicious. Make sure you don't forget to order the homemade tiramisu for dessert... it's wonderful!

Fantastic service and food. A hidden treasure for all to find. Five star quality tucked away in the small town of Gulfport, FL. You must venture there to experience the delightful setting, excellent service and very eloquent homemade dishes. Most especially the delicious pasta which is made as fresh as the very special sangria using Prosecco! You will not regret this visit!

You had me at fresh, homemade and lasagna! Serendipity is sometimes the greatest finds! My son and I accidentally came upon this restaurant. We were given a personal tour by the manager and he explained their philosophy of dining by offering fresh quality ingredients, home made and locally grown vegetables, herbs and spices. He mentioned the evening's dinner special and I immediately asked for a table for two! The restaurant is quaint and has an old world, European feel with ornate candelabras with wax drippings. We started off by ordering the baby spinach salad with fresh figs, fried pancetta and Gorgonzola cheese. It was one of the best salads I've ever eaten. We both ordered the specials of the day which were homemade lasagnas. My son ordered the salmon lasagna which very delicious and creamy. I ordered the sausage, mushroom lasagna with béchamel cheese. It was very tasty as well! We finished our meal with a homemade tiramisu and authentic Italian espressos. What a wonderful dining experience and it certainly made you feel as if you had visited Italy with it's charm and friendly staff. I can't wait to eat here again!! Bon Apetito!!

Been here a couple times and always had a good experience. Nice spot in little Gulfport town. Italian based menu that changes regularly to reflect whats good and fresh. Always creative. Nice wine selections. Intimate atmosphere but can accommodate bigger parties too. I've always eaten outside, even in winter was warm and cozy. Food has always been superb. Prices are about normal considering quality. Desserts are alright too. Service is fairly on it. Definitely recommend for a nice night out in Gulfport.

The food was the best we had in St. Petersburg. The grouper with pesto cream sauce on light and fluffy mashed potatoes was excellent. Our waitress was sweet and very attentive. I would highly recommend finding Pia's and sitting outside if possible..We also had the fig and goat cheese on crostini which was delicious.

So good. I hate the word "authentic" but this is real Italian. The dining room has a very "Italian homey" thing going on, and once they got rid of the server with the fakey Italian accent they removed any reason not to go here. Sauces are good, things are never salty, and they are sweet, friendly people who genuinely care about you having a good experience.

Pia's Trattoria has an interesting, innovative menu with unexpected food combinations and presentations. The meal began with wonderful fresh baked bread to be dipped in high quality, fruity olive oil with sun dried tomatoes. The sautéed calamari appetizer is actually two whole squid (sans tentacles) that are thick, juicy, sweet and perfectly seasoned. The smoked salmon appetizer with horseradish dressing and crisp, grilled ciabatta bread was delicious! The pesto risotto with summer squash was also perfectly done! The food is authentic Italian with a twist. The interior of the restaurant is perfect for a quiet romantic dinner. Candelabras, wrought iron pieces, wine bottles, lace curtains and cozy tables are plentiful. There are also two or three private rooms for dining. Three of us had dinner with one shared appetizer for about $60. We ate outdoors, which is very rustic, by choice. If you don't eat here because the table cloths don't all match, you have missed out on some great food with great service!

Ambiance is king here. Both the inside and outside are charming, cozy, quant...Will go back to see if food will wow us more next time Service, enthusiastic, but only fair. Seemed a bit too busy to really take care of us. Black grouper over couscous sounded much better than it actually was. Calamari was the best entree at our table. We will go back for sure as it was our first time.

This is full of delicious hand made food. The pastas are like nothing I've had in a while. The service was outstanding, this is fine dining with family friendly service. My 5 year old was well taken care of, and they were happy to offer half servings for him since we have boycotted all kids menus ;) The olive oil and fresh made bread almost ruined my dinner, it was so good! The beef lasagna is decadent with a creamy rich aftertaste. The stuffed chicken breast with mushroom cream sauce and noodles was to die for. The atmosphere is lovely, especially outside. It is quiet and mellow yet inviting. The prices are outstanding for the quality and amount of food received. Boyfriend says the lunch menu is full of a gazillion wonderful panini options! The food takes a little longer than most places to come out, but that's because it's like it's coming out of "Mom's kitchen"...TLC and elegance is being whipped up with your dinner...good things are worth waiting a little extra for.

Party of 5. Very mediocre Italian food and I'm being generous here. Very pricey for the quality. Service was horrible. Ambiance was good; we ate in the bar area. I would stop by here after dinner (somewhere else) for dessert and an espresso or cappuccino. We have had weekend brunch here and if you don't mind the heat and mosquitos it is much better than their dinners. Very quaint garden setting. We get there early before the waitress/kitchen gets overwhelmed so the service is better, too.

My friend and I were there for lunch during the Geckofest. The restaurant was crowded but there were plenty of servers. The food was good and the atmosphere was nice. We sat out on the patio. Unfortunately we had the server from hell. "Jo" buzzed around like she was very overworked when in fact it appeared to us that she only had a few tables! If ignoring a table was an Olympic event she would win a gold medal. She took our drink orders and then walked away as we were trying to ask about Items on the menu. She brought the soup out with the rest of the meal and then after asking her at least three times for water finally brought us some and there were black floaty things. I dared not ask her for another as I believe old age would set in before ever getting it. She was so rude. Too bad. Food was good but service so lousy we won't be back.

Absolutely fantastic! Went here for lunch today and ordered the Insalata Pia with Chicken. Everything about this salad was amazing! I only wish I had gone home with the recipe for their Salsa Verde dressing. The atmosphere is very quaint and charming and the service was great! Total win.

Average. It is difficult to write about a place that is exceedingly mediocre. Everything is essentially unremarkable. Not the misinterpreted unremarkable as in a negative inferrence but rather, merely, nothing to note, whatsoever. Bread...average. Service...average. Wine selection...average. Grub...average. Ambiance...average. Hosting...average. Noise level...average. Average. However, the fact that they take plastic is a step above Peg's next door. In this day and age what sane restauranteur would limit the patrons' ability to go hog wild during their dinner? At Peg's, if I walk in with $60 in my pocket, guess what, my dinner is only going to be about $48 to make sure I can tip the server. Unbelievable...therefore, when faced with a choice between Peg's and Pia's, I'll go to Pia's, because, well, I'll take a place that is average over a place who isn't concerned about their servers being under-tipped. PS - Don't get the calamari...I've had it cooked like they do dozens of times with much much better results...very chewy and barely palatable...so below average.

Great li'l romantic spot in downtown Gulfport. Outdoor patio dining is the star here -- but do be wary of sitting alongside the foliage-covered south wall, as the gnats were out in full force on the night we visited. A bottle of wine accompanied by their specials is a surefire combo. Everything was delicious, and a post-dinner stroll down to the waterfront and/or bar-carousing caps it off nicely.

Yay! I'm a fan, for real. I brought my "foodie friend" (Jan-et from Chicago) and she absolutely loved it... I can tell you this because she never stopped smiling and freely ordered several extra glasses of wine... one after the other with "Wow, this is such a great place" after each sip. It was delicious. We sat at the bar with "Josh" and had a really LONG, progressive dinner... Mussels with white wine, Tri-colored Gazpacho and then we shared cod wrapped in eggplant with freshly made pasta. It was truly divine. We both just loved it... (I was the driver, so I had an espresso from their coffee bar.) The servers / bartenders were charismatic and just actively involved with getting to know us and making sure we were taken care of. We loved it. The cod/eggplant dish was a special and the folks we met at the bar said they ONLY order from the chalkboard. Give it a try, I hope you enjoy it!

This week was my second this year spent staying in St. Pete Beach. Yesterday, I was looking for somewhere I hadn't already tried and Pia's Trattoria popped up with solid ratings. I'm glad I visited. The place is adorable - they nailed the decor. Apparently the indoor portion of the restaurant is new; there used to only be the outdoor dining area but now air conditioning is available for the overheated. The bread with dipping oil and spices was yummy and I enjoyed my pesto verde. Pia's Trattoria provided good food and warm atmosphere with prompt and friendly service. It was refreshing to notice how the staff all seemed to take ownership in the place. I hear they serve a mean breakfast and plan to check it out on my next visit.

We went for dinner on our friend's recommendation); great call! We ordered appetizers intending to share a meal. The calamari, sautéed, not fried! Yummy-delicious! Salmon, another hit. We were happily satiated. We hope to be back and will be at Pia's again.

I had dinner at Pia's two nights ago. This was my celebration dinner for arriving at my new home in St. Petersburg. The food was wonderful. I had the fish special, which was a wonderful fish called Hogfish. Don't yet the name fool you, as this fish is delicate and extremely tasty. The fish was accompanied by polenta, spinach, and a lobster cream sauce. My friend had the meat special for the night which was a large ribeye steak accompanied by roasted potatoes. We tried the appetizer combo for two, which consisted of different hams, bruschetta, cheeses, and veggies. They offer an extensive wine selection, as well as a full bar. I can't say enough how enjoyable the food was. The entree specials were $22, and the regular entrees range in price from around $13 to $20. My only complaint was that it was a bit loud in the restaurant, but that was due to the fact that it was full of customers! We ate inside due to the heat, but there is a nice garden so you can eat outside once it cools off in the Fall. Our waiter was great as well. He said they typically have at least one seafood special and one meat special per evening. The seafood is fresh so you can have interesting combinations that are unique on each visit. Two thumbs up and 5 stars from me!

Cute place. Menu is on the smaller side but they still take some chances with it -- Eggplant and crab lasagna, pesto rosso (sun dried tomatoes, hazelnuts, and some other stuff). Staff was attentive and efficient. Recommended!

We returned to Pia's again on this trip...twice. First time we stopped in for a glass of wine and stayed for another fab dinner...we tried the gnocchi appetizer and scallop entree specials. The owner introduced us to a new yummy red wine and discounted the bottle since it was new to the list. The owner and staff were friendly and attentive. The second visit was nice...Pia seated us and brought us the wine list. We enjoyed the mussels and a glass of wine...all tasty. One issue....bartender handed us our check without offering us another beverage or dessert, felt a bit offensive.....

Be careful when you go and where you sit. We sweltered for an hour and 45 minutes on a Gulfport Artwalk night--and we got desert to go! The food is excellent, but if the place is too busy you won't get a drink refill and you'll be watching the entire restaurant tap their feet impatiently waiting 20 minutes for bread. We had an incredible stuffed onion appetizer and seafood pasta and chilled soup for our entrees. All so good that we'd likely go back, just earlier in the day.

This place is a cute little restaurant by the water in Gulfport. I came here on a Sunday night with my lil sis and her law school friends. We sat outside on the patio and waited for the rest of our party to arrive. We were served waters right away, but I had to find my own wine menu and flag down the waitress to order a drink. Pia's has really great mussels in white wine sauce. No sand in them and the huge portion was so yummy. Perfectly cooked mussels and tasted very fresh. The bread was decent, wished it was warm though. We ordered the Arribiatta pasta with Shrimp. Excellent sauce and shrimp perfectly cooked. I would have given this place more stars, but the service wasn't the best. I guess the waitress was busy. She never came back to check if we needed anything and we had to keep flagging her down for more bread and water. My sister asked for an espresso after dinner and the waitress didn't stop to ask if anyone else wanted anything like dessert. I guess she saw a group of young individuals and didn't expect a good tip. So I tipped 20% just to spite her- dunno if that made a difference. Normally would have knocked the tip down, but would have propagated the cycle of bad service to us youngins. I'm sure if I came here with older crowd maybe would have a different service experience. Nonetheless i would get takeout here for sure....dine in maybe. But for Gulfport this place isn't bad.

My husband wanted me to try this restaurant because he had a great lunch there. We went for dinner and had bruschetta for an appetizer (the small is 4-5 large pieces). We shared the special, Seafood Pasta. I thought it was a little pricey, $25.95, but we took leftovers home and had two more meals from it. They were the best scallops and mussels we'd ever had - and lots of them. It's a very casual, cozy, rustic place.

We almost didn't go to Pia's because of the bad reviews. I glad we did because not only was the food quite good but the service was excellent. Also, the new decor is very well done. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
