All of the food we have had so far has been reasonably priced and tasted great. What stands out about this place is the people, though. The man and women who served us the past couple of times are simply wonderful. They're genuinely friendly and are more than willing to make sure your experience is good. We were worried about the curry we were getting being too spicy, and when it came out spicier than we had expected, they gave us free Thai tea to help with the spice. (Never mind we stayed 20 minutes past closing time!) I look forward to coming again.

Went here on a Saturday with some friends bc they only offer their lunch buffet on certain days supposedly. The price is cheap (I paid around $9 with no drink aka water) and the food is decent. Their options aren't exactly huge but it's enough for you to try everything and still feel full. They offer a pot of steamed rice on the side next to the utensils, plates, and bowls and trust me when I say you'll be eating a lot of rice since most of the dishes they provide are curries. The spring rolls and wings were really crispy and seemed to be the two things that were always fresh. The noodle soup broth changes here and there in terms of flavor. Last time it was more meaty and tasted like pho broth, this time it tasted like sinigang (a Filipino soup dish) with a strong tomato flavor. The red curry was decent, a little watered down compared to other curries I've had like at Bangkok Square but I still enjoyed it. The grandma sometimes comes out to help clear the plates and she is very sweet. The staff refills your drinks quickly and is attentive to your needs. Overall, for the price I would say that it is a good option for a Thai food buffet.

Food was ok. service was horrible. Never was asked about a refill on my drink until I asked for the bill. The waitress spent most of her time up front messing with her cell phone. No buffet. couldn't get an answer as to when there would be another. parking is horrible, access to building is a pain. Motel attached to reastaurant is downright scary

Okay so if you don't mind the location next to the ABC motel, this is a pretty good place to get some good Thai food. The curry dishes are the best options. Also their spicy scale is REAL Thai. So most people will find medium heat as pretty spicy. "Thai spicy" is only for those that can handle a lot of spice and heat. Good service overall, very friendly. Again pretty good place to stop and have some quick and pretty authentic Thai food.

Spent a few days in Gainesville this week and was craving some Thai food. Yelp pointed me out to this place that had generally good reviews so I pulled the trigger. As soon as I walked in I was blasted by what felt like a restaurant with no AC and it was hot in there! So much so, that I waited outside for my to go order to get some relief and it's August! I never walked into the dining area, but I would hope that muggy feel was just as you walked in and not restaurant wide as that would cause quite a few sweaty patrons! I ordered massaman curry chicken and beef Pad Thai. The curry was good, not great. It had a nice flavor and it tasted fresh, but I feel like it was a bit soupy and the portion could have been a bit bigger. The Pad Thai was not very good. It tasted bland and the noodles were overcooked. It had a good amount of beef and veggies and a nice pike of crunchy peanuts. It wasn't awful, but I certainly have had better and certainly was expecting much better from the reviews I've read on that dish from here. Overall, if it were the only Thai in town I'd still go there to get my Thai food fix, but since I don't live here and only come into town a few times a year I'd seek other options. It's more like 2 1/2 stars for me.

I went with my family and the buffet barely had any food and the food they did have didn't taste good. That was my first and LAST time going there! Just horrible!

Wah Ha Ha is a nice treat to find in Gainesville. While it really isn't Thai Thai food, they do a decent representation, and you can get all of the traditional Thai here! Its actually run by a charming couple from Burma (Myanmar), but there is a Thai chef. Apart from the cheap prices, they really do use fresh ingredients (they even have a small garden in the back!). So far Wah Ha Ha is the best Thai I have found in Gainesville, so eat up and enjoy. Even if you disagree with my review at least you won't have spent a fortune like other places in Gainesville charge.

Love this place! It's a total diamond in the rough. The food was great and the service even better. I had the red curry and it was very flavorful. The portion was quite large so I had to take some to go and they even gave me extra rice! Overall I would definitely recommend this place!

Just got back from the lunch buffet with my dad. The food was good, and I liked the fact that there were so many dishes with lots of vegetables. It's not a big buffet, but there was a variety of different dishes- rice, noodle soup, vegetable stir fry, spring rolls, coconut tapioca, soups, pad thai, chicken, curry, etc. I'm not the biggest fan of Thai food, but if you are, I'm sure you will enjoy it! It was a nice little local establishment, and I would go again.

The location looked a bit sketch, DON'T let that scare you away! It's very nice and clean inside. The food is very good. I had the yellow curry (mild) and it was delicious. Being from California the mild had zero spice to me, I should've had medium. The mango sticky rice was WONDERFUL and the Thai sweet tea was excellent. I would definitely come here again next time I'm in town.

In Gainesville for work. Decided to try this place simply for the name. I will go back for the food. The restaurant is very clean and friendly. The staff were attentive and friendly. The food is EXCELLENT! Do be aware of the spice level you order. Must remember this is Thai.

It's hard to know exactly how to rate this restaurant, how many stars they deserve. I always feel like a three-star review is a bad review and the couple running this place are so nice I'd love to give them as high marks as possible. Firstly, the space they went into is a parcel of a cheap and shady hotel, has little parking, and is simply run down though they obviously put some time and money into it since taking over from Bahn Thai. Even with cleaning it up a bit, the interior still looks like it needs work and the lack of music on the stereo when my friend and I were here only made it feel worse--as if we were in an abandoned restaurant. The waitress, who I think is actually one of the owners, was not very attentive but then again, until about five minutes before we left, we were the only customers. It seems like she was up front talking with her husband by the sound of things. She was very nice though despite not checking in on us nearly enough. The portions seemed somewhat small but are reasonable in price and the ingredients seemed very fresh. I've heard they even have a garden in the back where they grow some of the vegetables they use in the food. The recipes are rather authentic: they have Rat Nah which they called instead "Lad Nah" because this is a savory chicken or beef dish and doesn't involve rodents in the least, but in Thai the correct name is transliterated as "Rat Nah". I don't think you could put "Rat Nah" on an American menu though and expect a good reception of it, so Lad Nah it is. We had the red chicken curry and a chicken-based green bean and basil stir fry. Both were alright but not exceptional, slightly over-seasoned especially in the instance of the stir fry. By overly seasoned, it seemed like the chicken had marinated in a soy-based sauce for a while and was too salty. The spring rolls were fine and there was ample chicken in them. I've had better, but certainly also had far worse. In the diversity of dishes on the menu there is a greater feeling of authenticity than one finds in most American Thai restaurants. Still not as diverse as I'd like to see, but better than many. This awkward business of a list of curries with choices of meat then a list of stir fries also with choices of meat then "chef's specials" which you see on most American Thai menus is not reflected of the depth and scope of Thai cuisine at all. Pick up Phaidon's recent Thai cookbook and you'll see exactly what I mean. However, Wah Ha Ha is at least trying I feel to keep things somewhat authentic and centric also to a made-at-home ethos. It still has a way to go, but their heart's in the right place.

I enjoyed my green spicy curry with chicken. My wife go SPICY SPICY and it was HOT! our friend go SPICY SPICY and could not eat her Pad Thai they were kind enough to remake it. If you go for just a a meal and skip the apps - etc it's $20 for 2 people Bathrooms clean! Surprise as the ABC hotel is NASTY - just looking at it. Service was OK -- had to call to get attention and we had to ask them to put on the AC. But the food was tasty...

  • Jessica R.

This place is definitely a hidden treasure. Unassuming as you pull up to the building next to a shabby hotel. The Thai tea was rich and refreshing. I ordered Panang curry hot and my husband ordered Thai noodle soup hot. I love spicy food but it was on the higher spice level. The food was so delicious and fresh. The server was friendly and prompt. I would defiantly visit this place again next time we are in Gainesville.

  • Brad K.

We decided to try the lunch buffet. It wasn't a good sign when it's 90+ outside and the front door is open. And as I suspected the AC wasn't really working inside either. While it wasn't as hot as it was outside, it was warm and uncomfortable for eating. The buffet was $9.99. It was just ok. Was surprised to see ground beef used to make thai basil beef. There were 10 firefighters eating, once they left we were the only one's dining at 12:30p prime lunch time. I just don't see this place surviving. While it is Thai food, there are so many better choices in the area. Ocean Buffet up near the mall that costs $8 is so much of a better deal which 10x's the quality. While it's not Thai at Ocean, they have such a wide variety you won't miss it.The only thing that Wah Ha Ha had that I liked was red and green curry on the buffet. They also had pad thai, which as just ok not good or great. Wont' be back, I just don't see this place surviving.

I really wanted to love this place it all my checks for a new restraint that I like. Mom and Pop owned, hole in the wall, good price, and a lot of options. I haven't had that much Thai Food before and wanted to work my way through a menu. However , as yummy my dinner was , about 5 min after we left and were driving home my stomach started to rumble , in a bad way. As soon as I got home I made a B-Line for the RR and was in there for a good 30 min. I got chicken See Ew, my husband who had beef Pad Thai got a bit bloated but was fine. I don't normally have this reaction . Not sure I will try again because I'm afraid it will happen again. I would go back just for the Thai Milk Tea yum!

During my visit at Wah Ha Ha a few weeks ago, I was not blown away by the food I ordered off the menu. I wanted to give them a second try to see how their lunch buffet was. I went to eat lunch with a friend who has been interested in giving them a try. Since we arrived a little before 12 I thought we'd be getting a taste of the buffet food at its freshest. That wasn't the case. Most of what I tried on the buffet was barely lukewarm, some was borderline cold. This isn't salad I'm talking about either, but proteins like chicken and fish. Buffet food should be at least 140 degrees to keep bacteria at bay. From the FDA if you're interested: "Be aware that some warmers only hold food at 110° F to 120° F, so check the product label to make sure your warmer has the capability to hold foods at 140° F or warmer. This is the temperature that's required to keep bacteria at bay!" The food didn't taste fresh either and left me wondering if this was warmed up from the day prior. Regardless of how they were prepared, all of the chicken dishes tasted underseasoned and bland. The fish, which I'd read is one of their better buffet items, had an okay flavor, but was cool and not worth risking eating a whole lot of. The only item that was at all flavorful was their pad Thai. I would go into detail about the atmosphere of the place (drab & depressing), but it's of little importance if the food can't even be handled correctly. If you decide to brave Wah Ha Ha, do yourself a favor and order off the menu, and don't gamble with the buffet. Life's too short to get sick from bland, cold buffet food. There are a couple better options for Thai in town now.

I've yet to have a disappointing meal here, and I've been eating here at least one every week or two for about a year now. Consistently great food, and it always hits the spot. The only place in town I go when I want curry.

Moved to GNV from Boston a year ago and haven't had Thai food since. Pad Thai is a must first dish at any Thai joint as a quality check. This one was hot, fresh, and delicious- with just a hint of spice. Tasty apps, great service, will definitely be back! P.S. The sticky rice and mango is a MUST. Trust me on this.

Update! Just had the Wah ha ha special and it was just as good as the first two dishes. Pad Thai is still my favorite thing on the menu, but if you're looking for something a little lighter, the Wah ha ha special is packed with cilantro and refreshing flavors. Very authentic. Also- the service is amazing. Glad to have this place in town!

I came back again with my wife and father. This time I really wanted to see how hot it could get... I and sweating from my eyeballs. Thank YU! Get the sizzling Bangkok beef! It is incredible!

Their curry taste great! I've tried their yellow and red curry and they were both delicious! Actually I had the red curry served EXTRA HOT which was EPIC and unforgettable! Never had their lunch buffet but it seems fine.

We had the lunch buffet. I would give the food itself 5 stars, the only reason I dropped one is due to how warm it was inside the restaurant. They had the doors propped open when we got there and it felt as if no ac was on. The service was great. The staff was so nice! The food was exceptional. Excellent spring rolls, the soup was delicious albeit spicy, but the best things on the buffet were the pad thai, fried rice, and cooked sushi. I might add the cooked sushi was AMAZING. The price for the lunch buffet is reasonable especially if you consider how much thai food normally will cost you. They had other options on the buffet but with it being a new place I stuck to more familiar items. I urge anyone who likes Thai to at least give it a shot.

I won $20 on KISS 105.3. That got me in the door. The food was pretty good and the variety looked like a full buffet even though there weren't very many people there (it was early in the morning on a weekday). There wasn't much to the service (not to say it was bad, just there wasn't much for them to do). I would probably eat there again.

  • Amanda C.

Lunch buffet is EXCELLENT. Service was amazing. Price was more than reasonable. I tried almost everything and was not let down by a single dish. The atmosphere and decor is great. Buffet is 8.99 a person and is WORTH EVERY PENNY. Everything is fresh and the food is changed out frequently. Everything is excellent. Just excellent. A must. Dinner menu's prices look very reasonable considering the amazing quality of food.

My wife and I had the Thai buffet this afternoon. It was just okay without much flavor. My wife is Thai and I have spent a good deal of time in Thailand. Thai food has to be flavorful and this was not. Perhaps, if you order from the menu, it may be better, so we may go back to try that, but won't get the buffet again.

Thai has been a really tough sell in Gainesville, from the depressing decline and design of Bahn Thai to the closing of Tim's Thai I found myself hoping for a miracle in Wah Ha Ha. What I found was a glimmer of hope and a respectable effort despite so much adversity. The Space Taking over the abysmal location on 13th Street, WHH did what I suspect Bahn Thai could not afford to do: change EVERYTHING about the interior. The place looks great with new seating, a new design, and a MUCH more inviting experience than prior. Parking is still terrible and the neighboring hotel is still really sketch which will continue to hinder any business that isn't 100% incredible. The Service My buddy and I opted for the buffet, my personal intention being to use it as a benchmark for whether or not a to-order meal would be worth a 2nd visit. That said service was limited as with any buffet. We got refills quick enough on our waters and the used dishes and silverware were removed promptly without any intrusiveness. Very friendly staff also. One VERY big plus for me was that they had two items we had finished which my buddy and I wanted more of. We asked them if more would come out though they had no one else there at that point and they quickly whipped up a small amount just for us to have some more, which is fantastic for a buffet that certainly will not get slammed (read: terrible location). The Food The cost was $8.99 for the lunch buffet and we also opted to get some Jasmine tea to go with it (tea was weak even after extensive steeping which I attribute to it not being fresh). I tried a fairly large amount of the items they had: -Spring Roll (A): Hot, crispy, fresh. They have a scratch sauce for them that was solid -Thai Wings: (A): We got these in two waves, the first being delicious and the rushed second being decent. Would get again. -Noodle Soup: (B+): Nice spice and flavor. Seemed quite complex and the noodles were cooked really well and set aside so as to not get soggy -Yellow Curry (B): More prominent curry flavor AND it had pineapple cubes which gave a refreshing cut of sweetness -Ginger Chicken: (C+): Had been sitting out too long but I could tell it would have been better to-order -Pad Thai (C): Very underwhelming. The tofu was dry and odd in flavor/texture (might give it a C+ or B without the tofu and fresh) -Tom Yum (C): AKA the Hot and Sour. Got neither from it and the flavor was odd; did not finish -Tilapia Special: (C): Cooked well but drenched in some sugary sauce similar to the egg roll side sauce. Overkill. Final Thoughts It is a big deal to me that they were willing to make fresh what had been depleted from the buffet solely because we wanted a buffet item enough to desire seconds. Great response, even if the rushing in the kitchen resulted in a lesser quality batch of wings (we also had them fry more spring rolls which maintained their greatness). Price considering the above was excellent, but the tea was $3 and not worth it for how weak it was (no refills, as it comes in a pot with a bag steeped in it). If you want a thai buffet and live close, do not fear this as an option. I might find myself returning for dinner service eventually, but not with any haste.

Ok. We almost didn't go in. But, really glad we did. It was great food. Everything was prepared as we requested. Satay just right. Not too spicy. Tried the Larb-- needed a little more lime. Vegetable stir fry very good also. Recommend this little gem of a Thai.

Went today for dinner. I was skeptical but overall it was a great experience. As far as the food goes I got the beef pad kee mow which was pretty good especially for $10, sizable portion and good flavor. Comparing it to Bangkok Thai on towersquare I felt like the same exact dish was comparable in flavor and serving size but about 4$ cheaper at Wah Ha ha. If you get the shrimp option it's like $6 cheaper bc they don't charge extra for shrimp here interestingly. They don't have the option to add duck as your meat tho I believe it was chicken, beef, pork, or shrimp. My friends got various curries I think one got the eggplant curry which I tasted and it was flavored pretty well. Their curry portions were also pretty good for the cost. Overall this place is a bargain, very reasonably priced. The waiting staff were very eager to please and they were so nice here that I am really rooting for them! The decor is nicer than when it was bahn Thai but it's not anywhere near fancy or cool but if you can look past it then I think this is a pretty solid place to get Thai food in Gainesville. The other option being Bangkok Thai which has nicer decor but they're overpriced in my opinion. Oh we also had the crab ragoons and spring rolls which were ok like on par with chopstix. Definitely will come back to dine in and get take out.

Don't let the location fool you. The food here is really, really good! My friends and I ordered take out from Wah Ha Ha and everything was delicious. We tried the red curry, pad thai, and pad see ew - all with chicken. Pad thai seems like a good indication of a Thai restaurant's food quality. I loved how the pad thai at Wah Ha Ha wasn't over-sauced or too heavy, a mistake a lot of restaurants seem to make. Everything was great. I'm already planning my next trip back!

While visiting from out of town, my husband and I discovered Wha Ha Ha. We found many positive reviews on Yelp, so we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. We shared a plate of calamari. It had a light tempura breading and was served with a spicy mayo sauce. I had the Salmon Teriyaki served with vegetable tempura, my husband ordered Thai Basil Eggplant. He is a hearty eater, so he added shrimp to his meal for a couple of dollars over the menu price. Both meals are served with rice, but we substituted rice noodles with one meal. Everything was delicious. Our service was outstanding and the food was very fresh. Our compliments to the chef! If you are craving a tasty meal at a reasonable price, be sure to give Wha Ha Ha a try, you will be glad that you did.

I have tried Wah Ha Ha on several occasions, both the buffet and eat in. The first thing to know is that the air conditioner has been fixed and works. Second, this is NOT Bahn Thai, who formerly occupied this building for many years (and was awful, IMHO). Third, a reviewer below claims the buffet is $9.99. Its actually $8.99. For the eat-in my friend and I shared the Tom Yom soup with shrimp. It was boiling hot with big juicy shrimp and perfect flavoring. They use the sweet Thai basil in their base. After the soup my friend had the Pad Thai with chicken and I had the yellow curry with chicken. Both were excellent with a good amount of meat in both dishes. The portions were big enough that we took some home. The yellow curry is mild, not at all spicy. As for the buffet, I have been there three times and just love it. The food is very tasty and not salty at all. They change the dishes around daily, sometimes offering a fish dish (tilapia) and other times different curries. They offer several vegetarian dishes as well. I like both the red and green curries but be aware that the green curry is spicy. The spring rolls and chicken wings seem to be a constant on the buffet and both are delicious. The dessert tray is mostly fruit but I like this one dessert, tapioca with coconut. Yum. As other reviewers noted, the staff are friendly, quick and try their hardest to please their customers. I hope they make it because the food is excellent and the people there are very nice and doing their best to make it.

I'm writing this having just gotten home from the restaurant, if that is any indicator of the quality of our meal. I don't even know where to start on how amazing and impressive my overall experience was with Wah Ha Ha. The minute we walked in the owner greeted us with enthusiasm and excitement. He was prompt to assist us and extremely friendly. We ordered Thai Sweet Tea which was topped with cream and had this sweet herbal aftertaste, it was absolutely delicious. For our appetizer, we had fried calamari. The fried calamari was extremely crispy without being rubbery, and the sweet chili creamy sauce was amazing as well. For our entrees, we had Thai sweet and sour chicken and fish curry. The sweet and sour Chicken had chunks of pineapple, peppers, onions, and zucchini in it; the sauce just tasted fresh and light. The fish curry came in mild, but we asked if we could get it a little spicier, so we got medium fish curry. The medium is very hot, but nonetheless it was delicious with an incredible depth of flavor. We finished the night with sticky rice and mango, it was light, not a huge portion, but for two very full people who had eaten huge entrees, it was the perfect sharing portion. Overall, it is a wonderful place with wonderful service, and I can't wait to return!

Delicious Pho. We also had the Thai beef salad, and the steamed dumplings which were both authentic and delicious as well. There was a small buffet also but we didn't try that so I cant rate that. Restrooms were clean. Wait staff was friendly and accommodating. It was our first time here so we were skeptical but we would definitely come back.

One of the best places in Gainesville. I like everything of this restaurant. Must try their curries and desserts. From dessert menu the Thai sweet tea and Sticky rice with icecream are best imo. Very reasonable and great hospitality.

I've tried their food at the first time at Turlington during the food festival CASU was hosting and it was good enough to the point where I went and bought take-out. I've only really tried their pad thai but it's pretty good and I would definitely recommend that. My friend got their eggplant but he said it was ehhhh so yeah I'd be wary around the eggplant. Their springs rolls are pretty good as well but I think they're frozen lol. Overall just on taste I'd give it a 4 stars, nothing with service because my roomie picked it up.

I moved here from NYC, a place where I've had a lot of great Thai food, and the food here is excellent. I've yet to have buffet, but the Penang curry, green curry, and fish curry were all very exceptional. To the idiot David who based his review on his one visit to the buffet, your opinion is worthless; the "wharf" place you gave great reviews to blew immensely, therefore shut your pie hole.

The food here is great and the service is even better. I went with a large group on a Friday afternoon as the lunch buffet was ending. They extended it for us, brought out fresh food and threw in some complimentary spring rolls for everyone. From the regular menu, the Thai fried rice and pad thai here are excellent. The Thai sweet tea is definitely worth a try too.

I really enjoyed the thai beef salad and curries when I ordered take out. I went back with my husband for the lunch buffet. I think the price is reasonable, however, the food didn't seem as fresh and tasty. The red curry lacked flavor. My husband didn't like the fish as it was a bit soggy. I am a fan of take out or ordering there.....I don't know if we will return for the lunch buffet. We thought the customer service was great and friendly.

Absolutely horrible. My girlfriend won a 20 gift certificate to this place so we decided to try it out. First thing you notice when you get there...the doors are wide open, letting all of the creepy critters into the restaurant. As well as making it extremely hot inside. Not a great dining experience sitting stuck to the seat with sweat. As far as the buffet goes, I personally liked some of the stuff. My girlfriend didn't like anything. Some of the food had a weird, dirt like flavor to them. I didn't get sick from any of the food, but it just makes me wonder about the cleanliness of that crock pot they had going or even the dinnerware/silverware when your looking to save on electricity by not running a/c. Who knows where else you're looking to save. Either way, the bill came to 22 something for the both of us with a drink. We had the 20 dollar certificate and told the guy that was all I was going to give seeing that my girlfriend barely touched anything. He didn't argue much and we left. I would not eat there again!

Went there for lunch yesterday and it was okay at best. Had their lunch buffet. Never had been in that building so I didn't notice what changes have been made since it was Bahn Thai but the decor was sort of drab and the building looks a tad rundown. The buffet was pretty decent. Nothing on there was bad but, at the same time, nothing on there was too memorable. The House Special friend Tilapia was probably my favorite. That and the chicken spring rolls. The Pad Thai noodles were pretty bland. The Red Curry chicken had no heat to it and tasted like plain chicken. Their curry was pretty good. Unfortunately, by the end, all the food tastes pretty much the same to me. Tried a couple of the soups but they were not anything special. They need to add some sort of dessert to the buffet too. All they had were cantaloupes and some tapioca pudding that did not look appetizing. The service was good. There were a few other tables there while I was eating and the staff was attentive to me and the other customers. For the price, I am not sure the buffet is worth it. All in all not a bad experience but I most likely will not be returning there.

Visited about a week ago. I had been to the location when it was bahn thai (not good). The first noticable change was the interior, its much brighter now. The menu was diverse, it was hard to decide what to order. I finally decided on the pineapple fried rice with shrimp, it was fantastic! The waiter was very friendly and gave great recomendations to our group. It was honestly the best thai food I've ever had, I can't wait to go back!
