Great stop for ice cream, outstanding frozen custard. Try the SweetBerries Sunset...(vanilla custard with raspberries, blackberries and peaches) A must try if you are an ice cream fan.

Great tempeh sandwich and Monte Cristo! Finger licking and satisfying. Though it was takeout service, I have to applaud the young black lady that took my order. She was comical and gave a pleasent feel to the experience. The end though left a WOWING impression. I had stepped out to use the phone only to see the same young lady come outside and walked the food out to me - with a SMILE - this act simply caught me off guard. Thank you for being Awesome and 'SWEETberry-licious'!!! #nomnom #heartit

Sweetberries has a very simple value proposition: for $10 you will get a above average quality sandwich, a side, a drink and dessert. It is very much a place to go on a weekend afternoon to enjoy a casual meal with friends or a date. The sandwich menu is extensive, and has many under appreciated classic sandwiches other restaurants in the area simply don't attempt to make. Some of their standouts are the chicken and goat cheese sandwich, the Kansas City roast beef, the Monte Cristo (in my mind an unusually rare sandwich to find done well) and the chicken salad croissant. What really stands out is the attention to detail and quality. They keep far more breads on hand than I would normally expect, all of which are needed to properly make the sandwiches they serve. They do not cut corners. I've never tried the salads or wraps, but I imagine they are probably also excellent. The sides are chips or mayonnaise based salads. I personally like the macaroni salad, but it's nothing special, and I often wonder if it is simply from Publix. The real value come from the combo option. Most sandwiches run $7-8 and come with a side. A drink is $1.80. For only $.30 more than a drink you get a drink and frozen custard as well. I suspect this is to ensure you never leave Sweetberries without having some custard, because this is where they truly shine. There is an excellent chocolate and vanilla, and the daily rotating flavor is usually great as well. I would not normally get custard, but that the marginal cost over just a sandwich is so low gets me to buy some every time. If you are a freshman at UF taking a girl on a first date, take her here. If she hasn't heard of it, she'll love it, and if she has, she'll be excited to go.

Not gross or anything but the custard is very average. I wish they would use higher quality ingredients and charge a little. The chocolate simply lacked flavor and character. On a positive note, the staff is courteous and the place is very clean.

Great ice cream and cafe. I had the sunset and it was great, lots of berries!! Nice patio under huge Live Oak trees. Real casual experience but would return. Good customer service.

I don't know if I've ever had a true frozen custard. I had the "chocoholic" concrete cup and it was amazing! They had a honey flavor that was also very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful when choosing what to order. I would recommend this place to anyone that truly enjoys ice cream.

Visited SweetBerries for the first time and it is a fascinating place. The lady at the counter may have been on drugs, but she was REALLY nice and I liked her a lot. She didn't make fun of me when I asked how the place worked and didn't seem surprised when I asked what kind of milk was in the ice cream (cow, soy, rice, coconut)... We got a choco-cake batter concrete and don't cha know, it was deelitcheeous! The food looked good too, I think I'll be back for a salad one of these days. See ya then, bye : )

Best frozen custard in Gainesville!! Adorable restaurant. Do not miss out on their chocolate custard!!
(5)Colin C.
Best broccoli salad and best Ruben in town. I previously gave this restaurant a low score because of the lack of availability of my favorite dish. I came into today and the owner explained why they don't over produce their products and was very kind. This is a great restaurant and people like myself that are impatient have to wait for great quality, which is what they provide!

Sweet Berries frozen custard for dessert very yummy. Now in Gainesville Florida. The workers are sweet and helpful . Had to taste several custard before making my mind on the chocolate flavor. Real good and rich in flavor and thick custard. A must stop when you can!!!

I won't be coming back for lunch any time soon. 3 stars is a very generous rating considering my most recent visit, but the custard and other elements of Sweetberries deserve some recognition. Other aspects are less acceptable. The employees at this Sweetberries location are usually either incompetent, oblivious, or untrained. Today I ordered the "Three Bean Chili," as they called it, which was the soup of the day. After receiving what was obviously a cream-based soup, I tried it anyway. It was full of corn, potatoes, and shrimp. I went back to the cashier and asked what it was, considering I ordered chili. The cashier said it was "Three Bean Chili." After I suggested it was something different (she looked surprised when I said "shrimp"), she went to check with her fellow employees. Even the others "confirmed" with me that it is Three Bean Chili. Sadly, they were serious and refused to own up to their mistake. I also ordered tuna salad, which I usually enjoy (made with apples, nuts, and celery). However, the texture today was way off (the relish perhaps). Even more discomforting was the discovery of some sort of bright blue-teal-colored material scattered throughout the tuna. The substance was unidentifiable and its color alien when it comes to food (certainly this dish which I've enjoyed so many times before). I would have asked about the blue material, but the employees had already proven themselves to be completely unhelpful when it comes to the food. On the bright side, my side of fruit, Ms. Vickie's chips, and chocolate custard were pretty good.

Pretty nice spot. We came with our newly adopted dog and it was really pleasant in the shady area. I had the mushroom melt and potato salad and they were both really tasty. Will come back for custard soon.

Very good frozen custard with new flavors every week.

The Boss was in town which means a full day of riding together in the car and him grilling me on why my sales aren't growing double digits. So, i thought I'd take him to a real local's spot for lunch in Gainesville. For that, there was only one place to go. We went straight to Sweet Berries frozen custard and cafe. On the menu, we found a bountiful variety of great- sounding food -- which made our choices even harder. We both wanted to eat healthy, and fresh that day knowing we had a long day in the car together ahead of us -- and did we ever come to the right place for that. Our lunch was so freshly made and tasty that when we got in the car, my boss actually commented on how scrumptious his meal was. -- this is coming from a guy who never likes anything!!! For the rest of the day in the car, we talked about food and recipes we love - instead of lagging sales numbers and new strategies to be implemented. Honestly, I think he was here to fire me, but because I took him to Sweet Berries, our day took a completely different turn.

Kitchen and restaurant were very very clean. Management staffed seemed very nice and courteous

We tried SBerries when we found there was someone else selling frozen custard in Gville (and not so noisy and pricey as B-Fi). The first time we ordered one of their daily flavs and straight vanilla and it great -- nothing special but good qual and what one might expect. Returned a week later for lunch (and desert). Same cheery servers and other than a chaotic counter when crowded the sandwiches looked good. They were well prepared, and the muffaletta was a packaged spread, but good bread. The C-monsieur was OK, sugar sprinkled light toast which was odd, but interestg. The bummer though was the frozen custard (what we came for), their machine must have been malfunctioning because it was served with a smile, but way too soft, especially on a stale cone and the kid's cup turned into soup before our 5 yr old g-son could finish it.... We'll try it again, but it was a disappointment.... (one tip, get the cup not the cone)

Great place for fresh sandwiches and salads. Sometimes they are understaffed. Today was one of those days. There were 2 people behind the counter and many customers impatiently standing around.
(2)Erin S.
Love this place! The custard is delicious as are the sandwiches, salads, sides, & soups. Plus, it has a great vibe & decor. My job even catered with them and they were amazing. Very competitive rates, delivery, and amazing food & custard. Everyone on staff had something they liked. The owners are awesome and its a family run business!

A bit overpriced for a sandwich (but so is Panera)...I had a BOGO coupon, but dont know if I would come back without some kinda deal/discount. I got the Tempeh Rebuen, my boyfriend got a chicken sandwich- they were both a bit dry, but tasty. He said he would have liked more lettuce and tomatoe on his...for me- well, the tempeh was just dry and needed to be marinated in some sort of dressing in my opinion... It was a lot bigger inside than I expected, and clean. Had to wait a while for our meal, and the waiter bought it to us but then told us that our chips were near the fridge by the front counter (didnt notice as we ordered, and nobody mentioned it). Possibly a good study spot on a nice day, with outdoor seating availible.
(3)Scott B.
First time here. The place is very bright and clean. The staff was nice and our food came in a reasonable amount of time. My wife had the monte cristo, she said it was really good. I had the Philly. It was good but it really needed the chipotle sauce that comes with it otherwise it is a little blan. The custard was amazing. It was the concrete flavor. Definitely going back for that.
(4)Gloria S.
Finally had lunch here. Not the biggest menu but enough for an excuse of food before the real reason for the visit..... DESSERT! Staff very friendly, helpful, tuna sandwich and salad was very tasty. They put apple chunks it in. Also like the home made potato salad, a little sweet kick to it. Filled for lunch indoors, nice big area to meet a friend and chat. Large outdoor area with umbrellas, but to risky right now during rainy season. TIP: There is additional parking in the back and a separate entrance, closer to the door for those rainy days.
(4)Landon E.
I love this place. The art on the walls adds a really nice touch to the vibe. It is very casual but it is worth it for the delicious custard, where serving sizes are great and flavour is plentiful. The staff is very nice too!
(5)Sumer T.
So perfect. The mushroom melt with olives and muenster cheese! With broccoli slaw! With a pickle! The patio outside was a great place for my lil dog and I to watch the sunset. Didn't get to try the custard bc I was too full, but next time...

This place has awesome custard. I grew up in Missouri, the home of Custard, so moving to Gainesville I was hoping to find it here. Score! Got a small chocolate chip and cookie dough with vanilla custard. Amazing. Husband got strawberries and caramel. Good too. Only downside, slightly expensive. BUT worth it. Only custard place in town so they have my business! BUT, something unique about this place- 80s tunes and a large outdoor seating area. As kids of the 80s this rocks!! On a warm evening these are an awesome combo. Will be back for sure. Maybe try the food next time. Don't let the styrafome cups fool you- those familiar with custard know it typically comes in plastic right out of the machine and the server turns it upside down in front of you (hence the name "concrete"). Styrafome serves as an insulator in the warm South. Genius actually! Don't turn it upside down though :)

Great place. Relaxing and friendly environment. Always a pleasure to dine here. Thanks!!!
(5)Amanda G.
This place is no joke. The custard is delicious, the portions generous and the price is just right. They have an adorable atmosphere and the flavor of the day is always delicious. I cannot stop raving about it. Go. You won't regret it.
(5)Shane B.
Everything was a little off. Ordered the Philly cheesesteak. It wasn't steak, not sure what it was but not steak. Friend order the chicken cordon bleu. It was supposed to have a "special bleu sauce" but looked and tasted like honey mustard. Even the pickle was weird and tasted plastic.

Custard is officially better than ice cream. The frozen treats offered from SweetBerries are not only reasonably priced, but absolutely delicious and (warning) addictive. Don't think this is just a one-trick wonder. I frequently come here for lunch and am always happy with my selections. My favorite is the 'pick-a-pair' option to combine a sandwich and salad. I suggest the chicken salad sandwich. Make it a combo to get a drink and a perfectly sized cup of custard with your meal for only $2 more. GREAT quiet and unknown study location. If I had to critique, I would say the food takes just a little too long to come up. But it's a small business and can't be reasonably compared to the fine science that is Panera or other semi-fast-food chains.

Very good sandwiches. Spacious inside, with many tables filled with college kids (surprise!) You order at the counter, they bring it to you. We wanted to try the custard, but sandwiches were very filling. Liked it a lot and will definitely return!

The first time I tried frozen custard was in Seattle, so my expectations for it was set pretty high. The texture wasn't as fluffy and creamy as I was hoping. It's more towards the ice cream instead of soft serve which was how it was in Seattle. But overall the flavors are good. There's only one flavor of the day and it changes every day, but they will always have vanilla and chocolate. My favorite flavor of the day was cappuccino, since I am a coffee lover. Although their prices on the frozen custard are a bit steep, they do have great deals on old flavors that are prepackaged at $4 a quart! The sandwiches and salads are freshly made and great for lunch there, especially outside on the patio when the weather is nice.
(3)Laura B.
I have no idea why it took me so long to eat here- it was sooooo good! I had the chicken goat cheese sand and my husband had the Jersey shore. Both were yummy. Plus we had the custard- of course!!!...you would be crazy not too. I love that they have out door seating. I will def be back!
(5)Tommy R.
I was excited about trying this restaurant, but I was nervous that my anticipation would overshadow the reality and leave me disappointed. I shouldn't have worried. The New Orleans muffuletta was better than I could have imagined, and my small sundae was almost more than I could eat. This place is great!

The company I work for hosted a professional networking event at a nearby University and we used Sweet Berries as our caterer. My criteria for choosing the caterer was 1. Fresh food 2. Great service including delivery 3. Competitive pricing. We ordered a combination of salads, sandwiches, and fruit and all were well received by our group and attendees. The fan favorites of the night were the cuban sandiwches and broccoli salad. Invoices were prepared correctly, delivery was on-time, and setup was a breeze. Logisitcs can be a headache when catering in an unfamiliar location, but Sweet Berries gets 5 stars from me for a job well done! FYI - Some of the attendees were raving about Sweet Berries custard as well!

It's somewhat hard to rate a business like this one: on the one hand, they're not doing something truly innovative nor exceptional--not a five-star fine dining restaurant or a BBQ joint that's been in the family for decades. They're an offshoot of a small business started in Sarasota and they've put their Gainesville location into what was a used bookstore/café. They offer good food and frozen custard (much like ice cream) at a fair price. So in all, they do what a business of their nature should do, but have they broke new ground or done something that's highly complex or difficult? No, yet for providing great if simple food in a pleasing atmosphere with a very friendly staff not too far from campus they deserve at least four stars, perhaps even five. They meet the apparent goals of their mission as a business and as a customer I left very content and will return. I put all this out there because I'm tempted to give them five stars but for now, four, because five really should be reserved for the truly unqiue and exceptional. SweetBerries took a rather rambling and dusty old used bookstore space and transformed it into a light, fresh, clean and inviting restaurant: I can envision families eating here, local business-people, and UF students, too. I can picture people studying here because really, on atmosphere alone it easily trumps any of our local coffee shops. The frozen custard is much like ice cream and they told me is supplied from a local dairy (local as in? Since they're from Sarasota would that be local there or local here?). The texture is different from ice cream, but it's pretty good nonetheless. And quite filling. The other offerings are a variety of sandwiches and salads. Most of the sandwiches look good but they're pretty much the expected selections most places that do sandwiches have on their menus: reubans, Cubans, roast beef, tuna salad, chicken salad. I had the latter and it was pretty good, though also a bit too sweet. The staff--from the kids who work up front to a lady who is apparently one of the owners--are all very outgoing and friendly. Moreover, they're prompt. Food was up fast (not that it's too difficult with a sandwich, but still). They're open to ten most nights, too, including Sunday. What I would like to see from SweetBerries, were it up to me, would be more innovative and diverse offerings and less emphasis on the custard. Look, the custard is a great aspect of the business, but in this location blocks from campus you're not going to compete with Mochi in a huge way. Nor will you with Sweet Dreams, our beloved local ice cream parlor institution. I would promote the sandwiches more and have daily sandwich specials or something. Perhaps later hours would also be wise: this could become a great study spot given how it was renovated and the attentive staff also would make for a great lunch spot. It's certainly got far more going on than just another ice cream/frozen treat shop going for it.

Tried their goat cheese and chicken sandwich today and it was delicious! The seasoning of the chicken with the onions, roasted red peppers and arugula was just perfect. Sauce that tame with it was pretty good as well. The vanilla custard was good too but a little too rich for me (I'm not a huge fan of dessert) nevertheless, it was a really tasty lunch; my taste buds are thanking me

I decided to have lunch at Sweetberries today based on all of the great reviews this place has gotten. The overall feel of the place was pretty comfortable. I came and sat by myself and read a book. I saw many other girls doing the same thing. I ordered a create your own combo with a turkey and roastbeef sandwich on marble rye and roasted vegetable soup. The girl who took my order was unsure about how to ring up my order and had to get help from a coworker a few times. You could tell that they are still getting used to their menu. The sandwich was really good and filled with quality fixins. However, my soup was absolutely horrible. I was only able to eat one bite, it literally tasted like someone dumped an entire salt shaker into it. Overall, my experience was a good one and I would definitely come back for their sandwiches.
(4)Andrea M.
Love their custard and it is the only place I found in Gainesville with it. Staff was friendly and the service was fast. Only downfall would be the prices but then again it is only slightly higher than your average ice cream place like Coldstone
(4)Casey F.
Monte Cristo was delicious and the custard is good too. Plates are a tad small and the price is a little high for what you get but they're minor details on an overall nice place.
(4)S J.
I tried the Grilled Chicken with Goat Cheese sandwich and the Sweet Berries Custard. Both of them were delightful - the goat cheese on focaccia bread and roasted red peppers were wonderful. The custard was also a treat. The small was more than enough! Would definitely go back and try it again.

My girlfriend and i visited for the first time a few weeks ago. The food was great but not only was my main order forgotten about, which was the days special (tempeh reuben), my custard was also forgotten a second time. If it's a special, it should be quick and easy for the staff to prepare. Accidents do happen though so with some food service bootcamp this will be a great place. My GF got a tuna sandwich and soup that were delightful, and my reuben was good but it looked and tasted rushed after I asked for it again. I just wish I had gotten to taste the main attraction!
(4)Aubrey M.
Delicious! I had the brocolli salad and the Muffaletta sandwich today. The bread was still warm, the cheese gooey and it all tasted great. Great service, too. So much better than the other sandwich shops around campus. It's casual but has the taste of a gourmet eatery. Haven't tried their frozen custard yet but will report back after trying it.
(5)David W.
A 5 year old child could have made my $12 meal. Very bland. The chicken cordon blue sandwich, a specialty, tasted like the pre cooked chicken strips you get at publix. The atmosphere needs some serious work.
(2)Jeremy H.
I am not big on ice cream (if not to say I really don't care) but I had a frozen custard for the first time and here is a treat. It's thick, creamy and delicious. Their almond and coconut was awesome ! They also tasty sandwiches for a cheap price. Great place to have a tasty bite !
(5)Mike B.
Great hot sandwiches, sides, and custard! I really enjoyed the Broccoli Salad and tried a bite of a friends Potato Salad which was awesome as well. The sandwiches were fresh and delicious and the custard after the meal was the best I've ever had. Very open inside and clean! I'll be back for sure!
