This place is ok...nothing special. I had the pad Thai which was so so. The Tom Kha was pretty good. My wife had the chili paste fried rice which she liked.

Good thai food in the Gainesville area. We had Pineapple rice with shrimps and Penang curry with chicken. We loved both the dishes. Portions are good. Ambiance is like a typical thai place nothing great.

Think hookah bar ambience with slower lounge music. Almost felt guilty for bringing my 2-yr old here. Food is great. Glad we checked it out.

I'm glad that I randomly found this place and decided to give it a try! I've been dying for good curry since coming back from my 2 month trip in Japan and I'm glad that this place is in Gainesville. Yes, Japan's curry is different, but it's because of wanting that I was able to find this place! The atmosphere is very calming with a dim lighting. It's not really place for kids if they're loud and running around, but you can bring them. They do offer take-out if you'd like. I've had all of their curries and I am an absolute fan of theirs. Each different curry has it's own appeal and I would suggest trying them all, depending on your mood. I personally the curry with tameric in it because of it was sweetness but a very rich bold flavor to it! Only thing that I wish they had was another level of spiciness because I love spicy food and I ordered their hottest setting and it only gives me a small burn; I was expecting a higher spicy setting from a Thai perspective. For drinks, they have a thai tea that's really sweet and delicious. I wish they had free refills on it but then I'd run them dry! They also have a green tea with brown rich that has a good deep taste with a little earthy tones that I love. I haven't tried their other teas but it's hard to resist changing from this hot tea, For service, I think it's hit or miss. At times, I've had a waiter who was very attentive, despite it being busy, and ensured that my family and I were happy with our meal. On the other hand, we can get average service where the server will come twice: once for the order and a second time with the meal. I had to find him to get the check! However, their service is usually good and I've never had this woman that seems to be plaguing in the older reviews. I'm assuming that she's gone? I give this place 4 stars because I love their food, the drinks and the environment. The service bumps it down a bit, but that can be overlook a bit for such remarkable food!

Their service is excellent! I had the chicken pad Thai with a spice level of 5 (from 1 to 5) and i loved it! The noodles and chicken were perfectly cooked. It wasn't spicy enough for me though, so the waiter got me a side of spicy sauce which was quite yum. I also tried their Thai iced tea and it was extremely flavorful and lovely. Even the salad that they serve at the start was really nice.

I love Thai food. And I love this place. Everything we tried was sooooooo good! We tried Soups, spring rolls, pad see ew, and their chicken fried rice. I highly recommend it. Amazing food, great atmosphere, great service.

The food is okay. The décor is lame (put clothes on the wall). The worst part is that waitress. Please read other reviews about this waitress. When you see her, you will know why many people mentioned about her. I do not understand why the owner hires her. I hope that the owner will read this and think about stop hiring her before it is too late especially we now have a better choice at Bangkok square.

Had veggie chilli fried rice with fried tofu. Tasted so good plus they have a pretty good service

I was craving Thai food since it had been a while for me. I entered the restaurant and the initial service was lacking. I had just about given up being seated by the time the staff came out from the back to check on customers and noticed I was there to be seated. Once I was seated service during the rest of the meal was satisfactory. The lighting level of the restaurant made it difficult to read the menu. If they plan to keep their low level evening dining experience I'd suggest adding some menu or flash lights so customers can more easily read it. I have an egg/chicken intolerance and upon letting the staff know, I was immediately informed that all food was cooked in the same wok. Since it is an intolerance rather than an allergy I let them know that wouldn't be a problem for me. The menu also gives a detailed description of the ingredients for most dishes. I was interested in trying their soup and upon asking they confirmed that they were made with chicken broth so would off limits for me (every so often I find a Thai restaurant that starts with a vegetable broth) The menu is fairly typical for a Thai restaurant. I ordered the cashew beef mild (yes I'm a wimp) with the jasmine rice. The flavor of the dish was one of the best I have had outside of my experience with side street restaurants in Bangkok. The red and green bell peppers were sweet with just the right amount of crunch remaining. I am looking forward to a repeat experience soon.
(4)Aniket M.
One of the best Thai places in Gainesville. All the dishes come with salads. I would say the pineapple rice and green curry are the must try dishes. Low light, fresh flowers on all tables and artificial candle make the ambiance really romantic.

five-stars awarded in its category: (casual, above-entry-level establishment, pride in output, cleanliness, attention to detail). Fantastic Thai with attentive front and back-of-the-house service. Impeccable interior. Ordered Tom Kha Gai five-star and as it was my first time here, opted for the time-honored Pad Thai as general barometer. Presentation was good and all flavors were well balanced. Evidence of pride in dishes. It's the only Thai restaurant I know of in Gainesville, but I won't bother seeking others out - this one's a winner.

I never had the chance to sample Rice Thai's fare, because their customer service was so atrocious that it drove me away before I was able to even order. After deciding that I'd like to try this place on my own, I was basically shunned for asking for a table for one. I was told that there "really wasn't room for just one" in a nearly empty restaurant, because they had mainly 4 and 6 tops available. Keeping in mind, I didn't see a single two top in the joint. I was so embarrassed I left, and then felt the need to call back and speak to a manager. After calling, I got the same rude person on the line who hung up on me twice, refusing to connect me to a manager. Very disappointing.

My first--and rather negative--review I wrote shortly after Rice Thai first opened for business and it reflected my honest impressions of the restaurant at that time. I decided, having not been back after such a disappointing meal, to try it for lunch one day last week as I had a doctor's appointment nearby at Shands' sports medicine complex. The interior--one of the more-impressive aspects of the restaurant all along--still stands out as an environment that is welcoming and where the owners have placed some decent emphasis on class and quality. Moreover, they were pretty busy even past 1pm on a weekday for lunch, which I found to be a good sign. There are a number of lunch specials that are good deals in terms of price, variety, and serving size (see the photo I posted). The Thai cashew nut stir-fry (with chicken) I ordered came along with a small serving of a miso-cucumber soup, plus a decent serving of white rice, and also a small serving of pad Thai noodles. The main dish was ample in size too--indeed, for the price which I believe was under ten dollars, the portions were certainly generous. That said, the stir-fry was far too salty and the red peppers tasted off, though the other vegetables and the chicken were fine (aside from suffering from their overly-salted sauce). I would like to give them four stars, but simply cannot. The interior, service, concept, and presentation all warrant a pretty good review but none of that much matters when the main dish is overly salted. Given the poor experience I had at dinner before, I have trouble thinking this was just a one-time issue in the kitchen, either. It seems there is a lack of attention to detail and serious quality control at hand somewhere here, which is a shame.

Their grand opening happened January 2014 They said then they will offer a Shands/UF discount. I think Bangkok Thai on Archer is better. But it's nice to have some new Thai places in Gainesville that aren't on the Northwest side only. Ordered the Pad Thai. Serving size was on the smaller side given the $$. Taste was ok, just average. Decor inside is nice, again nothing special. Service is what needs to improve. Both times I've been there it's like they've had people working who have never been servers before and just don't know how to great customer, fill water glasses when empty, and just provide good service with a smile. So the food is average, but the service stinks. Hopefully they will improve on that.
(3)Marie H.
We havent dined in the restaurant but have gotten take out twice. So far we've had the Pad Thai, Panang Curry, Massaman Curry, Tom Ka, Pad Kee Mao, and Fried Calamari. The reason I'm giving it 5 stars is, not only is the food very good, the heat level is spot on. We have eaten at other local Thai restaurants and the heat level varies from visit to visit when we request the same heat level, but not with this restaurant. We both get the "hot" level and it is consistent. We plan on dining in when time allows to check out the service and atmosphere.
(5)Akash V.
Really bad experience. Food was not that good, moreover if you don't give more than 20% tip the server will chase you till parking lot and will ask you for more money.

Seriously, I have met the worst waiter ever in my life. My boyfriend and I went there for dinner. After we sat down, the waiter didn't give us any forks and knives!! After we had our salad, we were like how we gonna eat . The waiter gave us a look "what u guys r waiting for" look. He even said you guys look lost. I was like,"really??" So u wanna us eat the food with our own hands? Also when I asked him about salad stuff, he just said everything was on the menu. Seriously? that's how u treated ur customers? The food was not bad, but the waiter definitely ruined the meal.
(1)Felipe L.
Very good vegetarian menu. I hade the cashew noodles and my bf had the tofu kung pao. Both dishes were generous and tasty. The service was great and the servers were very friendly. I'll be back, and I recommend it to anyone looking for some good vegetarian thai dishes.
(5)LeVar T.
Love this place. It features Thai, Chinese, Japanese and sushi selections that are all tastefully presented by a friendly and attentive staff. The atmosphere is nice, with low light and each table has candles and vases with fresh orchid blossoms. I recommend the cucumber soup and crab Rangoon to get started and I've enjoyed the Pad Thai and Sweet and sour chicken. There is never a wait when I go either. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

As always my experience was a great one! I went with a friend who has major dietary restrictions and Ben and the chefs put their heads together to meet all of his needs. Pleasant, knowledgable and patient... Ben is amazing and Rice Thai is the best in town!
(5)Jensen W.
LOVE! If you like thai food this is a must! Their customer service is wonderful! The food is AMAZING. I go here around once a week and I always get the Panang curry its delicious. The salad dressing is something you must try also. I cannot express how much I love this place. I have also had their pad thai which is easily the best pad thai in town.

So I have been to this place 4 times now, 3 have been dining in, and 1 was a take out order. You can see that on 11/12 review was my first dining experience. I rated them 5 stars. My next experiences are as follows: 11/13 I was so excited and delighted by my first experience of their pad thai, that I was craving it AGAIN the next day. I decided rather then doing the dining in experience, that I would just get take out. I ordered again the chicken pad thai (no spice and no peanuts) and realized that the portion you receive was almost half of what you get when you eat in. It was also the pad thai was a little drier then the previous time and that I made me a little sad. But still good overall. I would rate that experience at a 3 Star. 12/03 I was craving their delicious pad thai and appetizers again so this time I did not do take out (because of my findings from the last time) we went and ate at the restaurant. The young man who is always there told us we could sit anywhere we wanted which we picked a booth. We ordered the crab ragoons and chicken noodle soup for appetizers and I got Chicken pad thai (no spice and no peanuts). The crab ragoons were the same delicious light tempura batter and the cream cheese and krab filling was perfection. The chicken noodle soup was a bigger portion then we expected, but it was mediocre. I guess nothing can beat my mother's homemade chicken noodle. And now for the entree I was waiting for, the pad thai! Pad thai was perfection just like my first experience. Rice noodles were a little al dente and cooked to perfection with the noodle/sauce ratio at it's best. 5 Stars for this experience! Now comes to today, 12/7. I was really craving pad thai today. So we decided to go for dinner. Now this is the first time we have come on a weekend, so I hope that maybe that factors in to my experience. For appetizers we went back to the delicious calamari which was perfection again, and tried the kanom jeeb which were very good. Now normally the staff there is very nice but I couldn't help but find myself a little taken aback when I got a rather sharp response from the lady server that is always there. She had delivered our complimentary salads that come with noodle dishes, and my boyfriend took a bite and was like "There is no salad dressing on mine." I was like "really??" So I took a bite, and lo and behold there was no salad dressing on mine either, just washed lettuce. So that being a very minor problem, I just waited until the lady server was within distance and was like "our salad does not have dressing, when you get a moment can you get us some please?" And she responds with "oh i know I put dressing on those, can you *talking to the male server* get them some extra dressing on the side? Now, I was really taken aback at how she responded as a simple "oh I'm sorry let me get you some on the side" would have been just as easy to say. I also felt very embarrassed on the topic, like really I can't tell if there is dressing on a salad?" Then when my pad thai(no spice and no peanuts) and my boyfriends smiling tiger salad came out they were literally DRENCHED with sauce. Like we were getting punished for politely asking for some salad dressing..... Also far as my pad thai, there was in fact peanuts on the side of the plate (after I had repeated to the male server twice for no peanuts) and I believe that if you cook rice noodles too long then then start falling apart. The longest noodle on my plate was 2 inches long. I felt like back when I was a little kid and my mom cut up all my long spaghetti noodles into tiny pieces so I can eat them. I was very disappointed in this experience but did not say anything as it takes at least 30 minutes to cook another pad thai dish and I just wanted to leave. But this is my reason for now rating them at 3 stars. I do know that I can receive perfect pad thai from this restaurant, so I will be returning. I just know that if my service and/or food is not up to par, that this time I will speak up.

I don't know why everyone in here is trashing the wait staff. We went right when it opened on a Tuesday so there was only one woman in there and she was very helpful and smiling the whole time. I moved here from San Francisco where there is an abundance of authentic and tasty Thai joints. That being said, the food was very good. I ordered the crispy spring rolls and, despite being piping hot, they were delicious. For an entree I ordered Panang curry. It was very good and the only reason I am giving it 4 and not 5 stars is because I asked for a 6 out of a 1-5 hot scale and it was still not very spicy. One cool thing is the Panang curry came with a little sample of the Pad Thai which was good but had a little too much fish sauce. I am kinda splitting hairs here but I live right next to Bangkok Square and I think this place is way better. Food was great, service was friendly and timely. Only downside is it cost me 21 dollars before tip for curry and spring rolls which was a little high for a meal at lunch time. I will definitely go back and the people I was with suggested making it one of the regulars we frequent for lunch. Just hope they get some more affordable lunch specials.

Clean and with nice decor, more than a take out restaurant. Food and service were good. Had the tofu, cashew and vegetable entree along with the cucumber soup. I ordered a 4 of 5 on their spice meter, it wasn't very hot. Next time I will go with the 5. A thai 4 is usually pretty hot for me.

This is a review from me and the hubcap. 5 Stars - Excellent Food I had the green curry. He had shrimp and rice. We also loved the cucumber soup. - Decor/ Ambience - Asian waitress. We had two. My husband preferred her. - orchids on food 3 Stars - My husband said he wasn't happy with one of the waitresses. He emphatically said there should be only Asian waitresses In an Asian restaurant. He is white by the way and he was directing this comment towards a white waitress. He also didn't like how she had fresh scabs on her arms in front of customers. He said she should wear band aids or hide them. :( He is uber picky about service and can spot flaws easily. I was happy with her :) 5 stars I didn't agree with him because I saw things differently. The food was pricey yet very delicious. Overall He gave the place 4 stars. He said it would be 5 if we didn't have the white waitress. I gave it 5.
(4)Eric L.
Just had lunch, the pad kee Mao. In one word: excellent! The ingredients tasted wonderfully fresh and were cooked perfectly with just the right amount of crunch. I also received good service. I think other reviewers who didn't have a good experience with the service came during a busy dinner rush or the grand opening. This really shouldn't deter you, especially considering the value. The food is amazing, and I will be a regular here.

This place is an average Thai restaurant. Excluding Bangkok Square I think it's probably better than the other choices in Gainesville for certain Thai dishes. In fact, if it weren't for Bangkok Square I would be more grateful we have rice Thai since it took Gainesville this long to finally get a Thai restaurant. One thing I appreciate about rice Thai is that they give you a small scoop of pad Thai along with the typical rice scoop with your lunch. For people like me who pretty much strictly order curry at Thai restaurants it's nice to get a little taste of pad Thai with the meal without having to order a separate dish. You can tell they make a large quantity of pad thai and dispense it as people order lunch and though I haven't ordered an actual pad thai meal, I certainly wouldn't pre-judge it by the small amount pre-made and given as a side. My wife ordered the pad woon sen, we both thought it was pretty good. I had the red curry and also the Penang curry on my next visit, I thought they were both pretty good but not any better than what I often make at home and I'm no master chef. Overall this is a pretty decent place for lunch if you're on this side of town. I have heard that this restaurant intends to be an Asian fusion restaurant rather than a Thai restaurant and they are developing the rest of their menu. I agree with some of the other reviewers on here that Gainesville certainly does not need another Asian fusion restaurant. We already have plenty of crappy Asian fusion restaurants to choose from and there wouldn't be any reason to choose rice Thai over any of the others other than proximity. It would be nice if these guys focused on expanding and improving their Thai menu and then they would really only have one other place in town to compete with. One last thing in case the owners happen to read this. The inside of restaurant is pretty basic but I do appreciate the beautiful live orchids on the table and cloth napkins. This is a nice touch. The only thing is that you have huge cobwebs on your 25 foot ceilings. That kind of thing doesn't bother me but I'm sure would bother some people. You have beautiful orchids on the table but if you end up with an east facing seat all you can see are those epic cobwebs. Go on Amazon.com and search for a "Webster". They are like 15 bucks and you'll be able to knock those pesky things down.

My husband didn't like the food (previous review). I tried the thai beef salad (smiling tiger), the green curry and the red curry and thought that they all tasted very good. I went here open-minded, hoping to leave a 5-star review. However, I had to take 2 stars off for the poor customer service I received. I had brought in a groupon for $40 and was told that as long as I purchased 4 entrees it'd be fine. I purchased a few items to go. They didn't count the $10 salad as an entree, but would only count the $9 curries, which surprised me. It was SUCH A HASSLE to check out - going back and forth with the waitress. The two waitresses even argued in front of me at one point. It was a very awkward and uncomfortable experience. I don't know why they made such a big deal of how I spent the $40 groupon I brought in - I was leaving a tip! It took about an extra 10 minutes to check out :(
(3)Keith M.
My wife and I just had dinner here. I was a little concerned with the mixed reviews, but we decided to give it a shot anyway. I am so glad we did! The Naem Sod was on point! The Masaman Curry was delicious too! Definitely going back!

I have read the other reviews of this new Gainesville Thai place, and I can only imagine that things have gotten better as they have been open a few months now. My family and i "discovered" this family run restaurant by accident. It is located where the local Indian restaurant used to be (they moved to the other end of the plaza). The family who own Rice Thai have remodeled the space and it is quite attractive, though small. To be honest, I'm not sure we were expecting much but we decided to give it a try. I'm sure glad we did. At least on our visit, the service was outstanding, friendly, and prompt. We informed the server that we were in a bit of a hurry as we were trying to make it to a play. She pleasantly offered to let the kitchen know, and our food and service were speedy. Other reviews were critical of the salad. I don't typically even like salads, but I enjoyed the salad at Rice Thai. But the entrees were the hit for my family. Generous portions, excellent preparation, just the right spicing (I like my fiery and it was....my wife likes hers mild, at it was as well), and the presentation was beautiful. In fact, my meal was so artistically presented, I almost hated to mess it up to eat it. We were all extremely pleased with our food, our service, and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. And they were pretty busy when we were there. I also thought the prices were modest, especially for the quantity of food we received. The only down side to me was their general lack of dessert options. Fried bananas is the only choice. I know that Thai's don't really do dessert in the sense that we in the USA do, but their culture has some amazing sweet dishes nonetheless. I'd love to see Rice Thai offer some. Otherwise, i loved this place. I will definitely be back!

Have only had take out from here so far. Tried several of the curries and each was delicious and ready soon after I called. My boyfriend got the pad Thai which I tried and didn't love, too sweet. Salad which is included has a yummy light sesame vinegary dressing. Pleasant staff and reasonable prices. I plan to keep going back on the regular. This place is very welcome in gainesville since we've been subjected to some truly awful Thai food in last few years.
(4)Catherine N.
Our first time here I got the Pad Thai which was very good. From what I hear (I have never been to Thailand myself) it is closer to authentic than many american pad thai dishes. Our second time I got the Singapore noodles which were absolutely delicious! The curry wasn't overpowering, but still very flavorful in a light rice noodle dish. I highly recommend. The lunch portions are gigantic, and both times I have had to box up leftovers. Although the spring roll appetizer was good, it was a little pricey for the 2 very small spring rolls you received. I would skip appetizers all together next time. Service is a little slow, but I suspect that is because there are only 2 cooks which I think are the owner and his wife. There is no large kitchen staff as in other large fusion restaurants in the area. Additionally, their grand opening isn't until January, and they are using this time to work out the kinks. Is it the best Thai restaurant I have ever been to? No. But it is the best Thai Gainesville has thus far.
(4)Allison W.
Such a nice family owned restaurant. I went this past weekend for lunch with a VERY picky eater who refused to eat in three restaurants before we found this one. The food was beautifully presented with orchids and garnishes. Place was clean and quiet. More importantly, the food was delicious and simple. They just opened so they didn't have any sticky rice but after we finished eating the owner came out to see how we enjoyed it and assured us they would be adding sticky rice soon! Don't forget to check their hours. They close for a few hours after lunch on certain days to eat themselves and clean up. Give it a try! You won't be disappointed.
(5)Dmachop C.
Plus one for courteous service around here. Pad thai and cashew mix are the favourites. Once ordered, the entree are pretty standard. Mention spiciness level 5 if you dare. Standard ambience and nothing else to say special about it. Pretty average fare and you can try it out for good.
(4)Marcelo D.
Place is expensive for what you get. The pad Thai wasn't that tasty, but it looked nice.
(2)Leah S.
Came here with a few friends for dinner. The food was decent, but the service was just AWFUL. My friend order a curry dish and when she got her food, noticed that there was a discrepancy between what was on the plate and what was written on the menu. She is allergic to peanuts, but the dish they gave her had peanuts in it!!! Turns out they gave her the wrong dish. The server wrote down the wrong order. Additionally, it took forever to reslove this issue because the servers kept disappearing to the back of the restaurant. Other tables were also looking around for their server. If you need your Thai fix, I suggest ordering ahead and get your food to go. The owners of the restaurant shouldn't be punish for the bad service provided by the wait staff.
(2)Jon Z.
Very Americanized Asian food. good dinning environment and good services. The taste is okay if you have never been to China or Thailand. I personally like the shrimp fried rice. It says the simplest yet most difficult Chinese food is fried rice, and they cook it very well.
(3)Carly A.
I was excited to try a new Thai place....This place did not live up to my expectations. It started because they had no fresh rolls(this is always a bad sign!). They also had no mango sticky rice, my other favorite(although it was on the menu). The food Not spicy at all even though I asked for it to be spicy. My soup seemed to be mostly broth and I had to ask for more vegetables to add to the soup... Other than that, I would say it was very, very, very.... AVERAGE. Hardly what I want when I eat out. Good service though.
(3)Landon E.
The food was pretty good, lots of decent Thai options, but definitely a little overpriced. Good service, but the restaurant itself isn't the best looking place. Okay for casual get togethers, wouldn't really recommend for a date or similar.
(3)Darren F.
Rice Thai Sushi & Asian Fusion is very Americanized Asian food. The simplest yet most difficult Chinese food is here and they cook it very well. They served shrimp fried rice and it was totally great. Also we had Tom Kha soup, a stir fry and a curry dish. All was good. Their service was very attentive and friendly. We will come back here.
(4)George W.
Very good. We had Tom Kha soup, a stir fry and a curry dish. All was good. The service was attentive and friendly. We will come back.
(4)Sarah K.
I've been back now multiple times and can say the food has been consistently good and consistently seasoned. My go-to item is the green curry (and I like this item better here than at the other fairly new Thai place in town).
(4)Craig G.
I have been here three times now and they have only been open a week. The first time we came the chef/owner came out and said they only expected 9-10 people to show up since they didn't advertise and were warned that business would probably be slow for a Thai restaurant. He also mentioned that the menu would be limited until January while they worked everything out for this soft launch. We have tried the Red Curry, the Pineapple Fried Rice, the Singapore noodles and the Pad Thai and the food has been very tasty and presented well. The service has been good, but a bit on the slow side. The feel is of a mom and pop Thai restaurant not a trendy fusion restaurant, but Gainesville needs a good solid Thai restaurant now since there hasn't been one in a few months.
