The food was pretty good, but nothing too outstanding. The staff is very friendly and the atmoshpehere is inviting and lively. Came during cinco de mayo so they had a live DJ amd few good drink specials. Awesome free jello shots and queso for today. Nice choice for west side of Gainesville!

A few visits over this last year. A few improvements, it appears they got their restroom sewage smell under control. Service has drastically declined. Food quality is still very good to good. Personally I think I like Linda Vista better that Peppers now. I like their chunkier style salsa where you can actually see the cilantro and onions. Which is much better than the salsa puree everyone else serves. This seems to have changes a little now leaning more towards a puree style. To bad it's what differentiated them from everyone else. If service was better I would probably give 4 stars. But when you sit down, slow to greet, non existent water refills, you have to get out of your seat to get the bill, that's bad service.

I enjoyed our first visit to Peppers. We ordered "tacos al pastor". Waiter says it's off-menu today but may be added soon. Not the same as the pastor tacos we enjoyed in Guadalajara but close enough. Was nice to get something different than the usual. Looking forward to trying this place again.

Surprisingly good. Good prices and pleasant atmosphere. They did a great jog remodeling the place. My only suggestion to owners is to keep the salsa flowing. Charge me for it, whatever, but just let me run out. I went through two bowls, it's good. We'll be back to see if it remains a go to spot. I wish them luck (today is their opening day), but if they keep up the experience we had today they should be around for a while. Update: Major SNAFU. No dressing for salads. Waitress actually told me to eat it without dressing. Seriously? I told one star off, but it will be a while before I come back.

Good Standard Mexican Food! It's not crazy good, it's not going to be awful either. When I'm lazy and don't want to go to Archer Rd this is where we end up. The fajitas are my favorites so far although I did have a "special" the first time I came here and that also was pretty good. Red sauce beef al carbon plate. Had some spice - just not as spicy as the same kind I'm used to in AZ and TX . There they intentionally try to burn your mouth out of your mouth. Service both times was good - not slow, not super attentive. It's a good middle of the road place sit down mexican food place.

Looking for average Mexican food? Average service? Average price? Then this is your place. Nothing stood out to me as being unique or special about this restaurant. Portions were large but unremarkable. Not bad... just average. There are too many other places to eat Mexican in town that provide better food, service, and choices to settle on this place. Try Las Margaritas for a better version of this concept, or if you want authentic Mexican make the 20 minute drive west to Cilantro Taco in Newberry.

I SHOULD HAVE SENT IT BACK. Dried out chicken, raw broccoli, and crunchy rice! The dinner special; Arroz con pollo. I was attempting to be nice, I asked the waiter for some sauce to put on the dried out plate of food. He accommodated my request. I ate the dinner. The restaurant is nice, the service was great. There were nine of us at the table. Everyone was happy except for me. After the meal, when I got the check, there it was. I WAS CHARGED FOUR DOLLARS AND TWENTY FIVE CENTS FOR A TINY BOWL OF SAUCE! It was a couple of table spoons at the most. The price of my dinner was increased from $8.99 to $13.24. The dinner was discusting and the price was a rip off. Needless to say I do not plan to return.

Great, cheap, authentic Mexican food. Excellent service with free chips and salsa. No need to say more.... other than the beer is cold.

Not terrible but also not memorable. I would pick Linda Vista/Las Margaritas or Chuys first. Honestly I'd probably also pick Moe's or Chipotle before here. Decent food for the area but no where's near my top pick here in town.

Please understand, I think this place is great. I am giving it 4 instead of 5 because the food is okay...not awesome. This being said, it is Gainesville and the Mexican food choices are somewhat limited. The service was great, food was not bad and the atmosphere was friendly. We will go back and I recommend this place to others seeking a fun place to have a decent meal at a fair price.

Food was good and server was very attentive. After trying numerous "mexican" restaurants in town, we finally found one which passes the test. I had the chile verde. My wife had the tamale and chicken enchilada. She thought the red sauce was too tomatoey. I like the verde sauce on mine. Not the best in the world but pretty tasty. Or, I was really hungry.

If you like the taste of fake cheese with reheated rice and beans... Go for it. I can see this place on Kitchen Nightmares. The manager served us and was rude, rushed us through ordering and charged us for food we refused to eat. I asked to speak to a manager and when I found out it was him I said never mind, that he was horrible and so was our experience and we left. I literally felt I would puke if I forced myself to eat their crappy food. It was DISGUSTING. I even explained what was wrong to the fake cheese, the gross white sauce texture and the bland rice. He just acted like no one had ever said a bad thing about their food and brought the bill at full price! I'm appalled and will never recommend this place nor go back. I recommend you save your stomachs and wallets and do the same. Even when we asked him how big the burritos were he was like "They're portioned right. Depends how hungry you are. You want more time to decide or what?" He was a downright ass! Maybe someone kicked his cat that day but what a terrible manager. The only nice person there (even the hostess was unfriendly) was a random other male server who asked us what was wrong. He deserves the only star.

Don't go when there is a soccer game going on. Every, I mean EVERY server surrounds the bar (unapologetically) to watch the TV. We had to get up, walk over to ask for anything. Decor is nice, Mexican murals are beautiful. Good date place. Love that they give you each your own Salsa dip bowl, no sharing necessary except for the basket of free chips. Food is decent, nothing special. English, for the servers, are a challenge if you go beyond the usual dialogue. Prices are reasonable.

I actually liked this place, in the sense that I thought it was... Pretty decent. Nothing of note to terrible; the food was good and pretty reasonably priced. I got the chicken burrito, which I always love, and it was really good. The chips and salsa are pretty great! Not too spicy and not too runny but still pretty fresh salsa with enough cilantro without being overwhelming. We had a pretty large party, and our server tried to tackle it on his own but he definitely should've gotten help. He was unable to come around enough to be really effective, but he did try and was very polite and respectful in terms of accommodating us. I probably wouldn't go there alone, because the location isn't convenient for me and there are better, smaller or non-chain

This was some of the worst Mexican food I've ever had. While the service was good and they tried hard, the food was blaaah. The food had no flavor except for salt and the plates were covered in white "cheese" stuff. I always take home leftovers but I left the take home box at the table. The one bright spot was that salsa that came with the free chips was really tasty and fresh. While I didn't try the the steak, chicken or seafood that they have on the menu( I got a cheese enchilada, bean burrito and a tostada), I would recommend going some where else.

Took my family there on a Saturday night around 7:00 PM. Not busy. Seated right away. Chips were brought to us within seconds. Our waitress came about a minute later to take our drink orders. Drinks came within a couple minutes. Chips and salsa were very good. My wife and I had the fajitas for two. It was a very nice portion with two plates of sides which included rice, refried beans, pico, guacamole. Great flavor, very tender meat and vegetables. Our teens had the quesadilla, and the the other had the chimichanga combo. They had a lot of meat. Both were very pleased. The floors and tables were very clean. Nice atmosphere. Nice looking bar area. This place is very close to our house so I will be back.

Food typical chain store Mexican. Nothing authentic about the meal. I ordered Chicken Pablano with Mole. Basically thinly sliced chicken breast smothered in what could have been a jarred sauce. Tablemate ordered Ribeye steak, medium. Very thin piece of meat arrived overcooked and unappetizing. Probably too thin to cook any other way than well done. Overpriced for steak. Reasonable price for the chicken dish. Service could have been better. Waitress was attentive but lackadaisical. The Margarita, chips and salsa were good. Best part of the meal!

Went to Peppers myself, and I have to say for what you're paying, its a pretty darn good deal. Pretty yummy food. Great service. I like that their decor is not super loud. It was just dark and cozy and I liked that. salsa was awesome.. I like the chunkiness of it. The food was pretty ok. I asked for steak after changing my mind a few times and ended up with chicken on my plate. I'm sure the waiter would have switched if I asked but I was hungry and didn't care. All in a all, not a bad experience. I'd come back for the fast and friendly service.

Peppers is the closest mexican food to my home and office, so I've tried it 4 or 5 times. Most of the time I have ordered the Mole Poblano. This is a favorite dish of mine, and one I have seldom seen outside of California, AZ, or TX. Each time it has been better, with a thick sauce and good chicken breast. I always eat it with corn torillas. The beans and rice are good. I do like the salsa, which is chunky and has a nice amount of spice. The service has been good and the interior was nicely renovated from the Pizza Vito before it.

I don't know if it was an off night for them or something, but their stuff was honestly some of the worst Mexican food I have ever eaten. For the prices they charge, it was ridiculous to serve that quality of food.

Peppers is my favorite place to eat in Gainesville. Excellent food and quick service! The chips and salsa are plentiful and delicious. I usually go for the steak tacos or chicken taco salad and leave stuffed!

Go and eat here! Chili rellano melted in my mouth. Chicken soft taco was flavorful. Salsa was perfect. Chips did not break away like at Chueys and we didn't fill up on them because the food came right out! The decor is elegant upscale for a Mexican cantina. There was an earlier review about the booths sliding out but this used to be owned by the people who have NW Grill, copper monkey, and panama joes. Sadly they thought it was a good idea to build the booths. They did stain the booths a dark modern color. I truly enjoyed every aspect of my dining experience tonight and as a picky person this is saying alot!

Upper echelon of Mexican restaurants in town. I'm 3 for 3 on visits here. Couple different burritos and fajitas so far. Price point realistic with quality, service, and appearance. Good spot!

On the hunt for outstanding Mexican food, we (wife and hypercritical son) went to the newly opened Pepper's Mexican Grill. We left satiated, but not excited. Here's why. The restaurant, newly opened, has a new Aztec-oriented decor with a lot of wood; the new tables and bench seats were nice. Another plus: authentic Mexican cantina music, a real pleasant change from the nonsense that is played at other local Mexican restaurants here in town. The service was efficient and cordial though we arrived when the restaurant had opened and were the only people there. Chips and salsa were delivered as we sat down. The chips tasted like chips and the salsa was pretty generic: kinda watery and pretty forgettable. We ordered the Pepper's Burrito with chicken and the double sized combination fajita with chicken and steak. The burrito arrived on a massive plate, buried in lettuce, tomato and sour cream, surrounded by rice and re-fried beans. The burrito itself was pretty puny with not much in it, let alone the promised chicken. The re-friend beans were, for us, too salty and inedible. There was a lot of food. The fajita was delivered with a separate plate of rice, re-fried beans, lettuce, tomato, pico de gallo, a small amount of guacamole and sour cream. The fajita flavors were excellent, though the meat - both the chicken and steak - gets lost in the sauce and flavors. Assembled on a flour tortilla with the guacamole and sour cream, the overall effect was excellent, but not as good as our other go-to local Mexican restaurant's, Chuy's and Mexico Lindo. The re-fried beans, again, were too salty. So, thumbs down for the burrito, thumbs up for the fajita, but there's better in town. On the other hand, the portions are large and if quantity holds sway over quality, Pepper's may be for you.

Seems like there are 3.2 new Mexican restaurants opening in Gainesville every week. Luckily, none of them are lethal like Taco Bell, but rather sit-down quality type of cantina. So I tried out this place, the newest Gainesville Mexican joint, for lunch last week. As someone who can free-base hot peppers, the name of the joint is a great start. Food: yay, free chips and salsa. And good salsa at that! Most Mexican places in town do salsa well, so that is now just the price of admission to even get 3 stars here. I had the fish tacos...which is always a great way to test a Mexican joint. Tacos were quite good, no complaints! Atmosphere: nice, classy, clean. They spent a few bucks here. Parking: lots of parking, so this is already much better than Las Margaritas. Drinks: sadly, I had to pass, it was a weekday lunch, so I couldn't load up on margaritas and go back to the office. Someday I want a job where I can have 3-4 margaritas at lunch and not get in trouble....like bankers and insurance agents. Service: decent. Not bad, but not the best, just average. So good place all in all, I'll try it again in about 2 months to see how they are doing.

I was pleasantly surprised with my trip to Peppers. They are right down the road for me so I'll be sure to stop by for happy hours and on the weekend. I went ala cart and had a hard taco which was large and really good. I also had a chicken quesadilla and that was a solid choice. Don't judge this place from the outside and it looks really nice inside and has a really nice bar. They have some really good deals for drinks so keep an eye out for that. This place is a sit down style mexican and really nothing like Moe's next door at all. With El Nortorino closing on 75th this is really the only mexican place in this part of town. Also, they are open on Sundays which is a plus.

UPDATED REVIEW Have been back several times since my first review and thought I should re-rate. Food has always been consistently good. Have only been during lunch. Good service, warm chips and good chunky salsa.

Food is awesome. They service you quickly and efficiently. And I even swung by on the busiest day of the year for them and I got carry out in 15 mins while it was slammed packed. Please just put a little extra liquor in your mixed drinks - don't go corporate. Lol. Love this place and so does my family

My wife and I really like the food at Pepper's, and have dined there over 10 times. I love that the fish and shrimp aren't over- cooked. The salsa is red, fresh, and full of tomatoes and cilantro. The Camarones a la Diabla is excellent, and one time the sauce was beyond excellent (great garlic flavor and perfect heat). The mariachi (fish) is also excellent, and never over-cooked (hooray, keep it up). Fish tacos also really good. Service has always been very good, and most beers are 2 for one. We recommend Peppers to our friends.

Service was below average, food was not very good, salsa was ok. Atmosphere is supposed to be nice, but it's not great. I would go to willies for the best Mexican in town.

This place is great. I went here for takeout and it literally took them under 5 minutes to get my food out to me. (I went around 6). I worked at a very good and authentic Mexican restaurant throughout high school and college, so I know good Mexican food when I eat it and it was fabulous. Tamales were better than most I have ever had, not too much meat or masa, just the right combo. I also had a taco which was amazing. The rice and beans were standard (but still great) and the chips and salsa were VERY good. The amount of food I got for the price was great too.

I am definitely a fan of Peppers. Gainesville has a lot of Mexican restaurants, many of which I like a lot, so it took me a while to try this new choice. The renovations they did on this space are nothing short of amazing. Despite the silly basic colors of the exterior, the interior is very nice and classy, with dark woods and rich tones. I think it looks really nice, and if anyone can remember what the interior looked like before it was Peppers, you'll be amazed at how nice it is now. The food is standard Mexican fare, with a number of entrees at the higher end of the menu that are very authentic and a nice addition to the typical burrito and tostada fare. I have tried several of the entrees and loved each one. I've read some of the other reviews here who have had negative things to say about the food, and I can only say that hasn't been my experience. The food has been delicious each time I have visited. We have never visited when it was overly crowded, but the service has also been friendly and attentive when I have visited. I took my entire office there one day, which was a very large group. They were very accommodating and helpful, and the food and service was very prompt despite the numbers. I also think their prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food and the classiness of the environment. We'll definitely be back.

One time only. Just awful. Stinks around bathrooms, overly salted food, completely undesirable presentation. With so many Mexican options around Gainesville, this is a no go.

Tried Peppers with a friend and we were both very disappointed. The decor inside is nice and the service was adequate. The waiter seemed to forget we were there and took a long time to return with the check The salsa was watery and bland so I asked for something with a little more heat. The spicy salsa tasted terrible and they charged me an extra buck for it. I had a burrito with chicken and the sauce on it was pretty good but they use canned chicken with no additional flavoring. And it tasted just like a can. Ugh. My friend had a combination plate that included a chili relleno, taco and salad. She reports that it was so-so, the salad being the high point. We both agreed that a nearby family owned Mexican Restaurant was far superior. The prices at Peppers are higher than the norm for Gainesville and the portions are smaller.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
