Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

The food is OK. Not the best Mexican around by any means, but I kept ordering because they offered the convenience of delivery to my workplace. Until the last couple of times when I've called and they won't deliver anymore even though they continue to advertise it... and I'm less than 1.5 miles away. Could I just go and get it myself? Yes, but there are better mexican takeout places in the area if I have the time to actually get out of the office.

Just your standard Mexican/Spanish alternative for your lunch break. Service is always with a smile, and delivery is ultra quick even during the lunch rush. My favorite go to items here are the chicken taquitos (enough food for a meal) and their burritos. Honestly though, my favorite item has to be their burger. Yes, their BURGER! They advertise it to be the best in broward. I don't know about that, but it's a perfectly cooked standard burger that comes with fat thick cut French fries. They put a special seasoning on them to make it extra delicious. I think the burger is cooked on the same grill as the rest of their food so it absorbs the taste of the Mexican/Spanish dishes, making it extra tasty. They have a full salsa bar that I enjoy too. All of their entrees come with chips, I think, so this is a great addition. The green salsa is the best I think but it's loaded with garlic.

Not a bad burrito.... I came here with some business associates for a quick and somewhat healthy lunch. Ordering a gourmet burrito I got a reasonably sized toasted burrito filled with chicken chunks, salsa, guacamole and cheese. It was actually just right (not too filling) and hit the spot. Came with homemade tortilla chips which were pretty good too. Not a bad place for a fast fresh lunch. Update: Updated to 4 Stars given that the owner took the time to review and respond to my review. Great team!

It's good. By no means the best Mexican place around, but the prices are great for Las Olas and there's only so much Subway and Offerdahls you can eat. Would've probably liked a few more chips, but I will definitely come back.

A very reasonable fresh lunch alternative. A salsa bar complements the meal. The grande burrito with chicken is a very generous portion for lunch. The prices are extremely low for the Las Olas area. The ingredients in the burritos are very fresh and tasty. I have been coming here for yrs and never disappointed

I was craving Mexican for lunch one day and happened to walk by Hot Tamales. I thought it was a perfect day to check it out. The place looked busy serving lots of patrons -- some who were just there to pick up and go. The place looks clean and it has a cool "salsa bar" that has different salsas and other toppings for your food like jalapenos and cilantro. The staff seemed friendly and service was quick. It's set up like a fast-food restaurant. The reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because: 1) they got my order wrong and I didn't notice till I got back to my office (don't you hate when that happens?) and 2) the order I got just wasn't very tasty or appealing. I really wanted to give them a better rating, but unfortunately I wasn't too impressed.

I've been going to this place since it was called La Salsa back in 2004. I have seen improvements in customer service since the name change. When I first started eating here, they would often open 15-30 minutes late, which didn't work out for me because I have a job that I need to go to on time. Recently they've been open on time and I've seen some newer staff that are more service oriented. In my opinion this is one of the best hidden gems for breakfast. For about the same price as a drive thru breakfast elsewhere you can have delicious eggs, meat, chilaquiles, beans and rice. If you've never had chilaquiles, you must try them. Chilaquiles are tortilla chips, coated with a sweet salsa roja and then broiled. They are topped off with queso fresco or crema or sour cream and all of the toppings you'd like from the salsa bar. The chips become soft, gooey and infused with the delicious flavor of the salsa. Hot Tomato's is one of the only restaurants I've found in South Florida that serves chilaquiles, and this is what has kept me coming back. I frequently go here for lunch because it's very close to my office, however, I recommend calling in your order ahead because the line to order can be very long. Also, you should check out the nutritional information. I was shocked when I found out that a cheese quesadilla had more than a day's worth of calories and fat. I don't know why that was so surprising to me, but it was. I now always order chilaquiles for lunch. They are probably not the healthiest option either, but they are delicious and filling. For an unknown reason, the staff doesn't seem to know what chilaquiles are when you order them at lunch, so you have to tell them that you want a large order of chips and salsa cooked with salsa roja. You must say the magical words "salsa roja" or yet again the person answering the phone will not understand. Once I even tried to order chilaquiles in person at the counter and the worker told me that they don't sell them. I then pointed to the menu that said they do. He asked some questions and all was right with the world, but this is an area that needs improvement. I also order pinto beans on top of my chilaquiles. I skip the dairy toppings but add lime, cilantro, onions, pico de gallo, green salsa and the smokey salsa from the salsa bar. This is comfort food at its best for around $5. Overall, I like this place. It's cheap, conveniently located, and the staff is nice. This definitely isn't the most authentic Mexican food around, but it's delicious and fast. It helps if you speak Spanish when ordering, but even if you don't speak Spanish, just make the extra effort to have your order understood in English. The reward is worth the extra effort.

Ordered this into the office while I was visiting a branch in the area. Menu had many selections. I called in my order and the woman could not understand me or what I was ordering. I had to repeat myself mutliptle times which was frustrating. I ordered a chicken quesadilla, because I figured how can you mess that up?? Our order came and the delivery guy forgot to bring our chips. The chicken in my quesdilla was questionable, so I ended up picking out all the meat, so I was left with pieces of cheese and tortilla. My other co-worker ordered a taco salad and also felt like the food was off. Both of us continued to have stomach pains throughout the day. Will not eat from here again.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me! That's how I feel after my two recent visits to Hot Tomatos. This place is situated very close to my office and is extremely convenient for me - just steps away from my cubicle. Don't be fooled by the fresh salsa bar located in the back of the restaurant. It's the only thing that allows me to give this place a star or two. Definitely some good pico de gallo, avocado based sauces, fresh chopped cilantro and many salsa options with varying degrees of heat. HOWEVER, this is where the good part of the review stops. On visit #1, I ordered grilled fish tacos. In a ravenous frenzy I ran over to a booth and started devouring the tacos. Something wasn't right. The fish was not fresh and seemed a bit "off". I kept eating thinking it was all in my head. Towards the end of taco #1, I started feeling grossed out. I pushed the plate away and had to rush back to the office for a meeting. Shortly thereafter, I didn't feel well. I'm starting to think that fish was not of the fresh catch variety and maybe sat out too long. After a few weeks, I decided to give this place another shot. I'm big on second chances - what a big mistake! This time I ordered a chicken avocado enchilada which sounded very promising. Unfortunately this option was equally as bad. The food was slathered with some kind of red sauce that lacked any flavor or spiciness whatsoever. The chicken was chewy and the rice seemed uncooked or old. After a few bites I was totally grossed out and pushed the plate away yet again. I'm not sure what the deal is - this restaurant seems popular and is often crowded with patrons. I have a fairly strong stomach and have been known to be pretty adventurous with all types of food, but it is very evident that this place did not agree with me or my digestive system AT ALL. I will not be going back for visit #3.
