Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

With a name like Bar Italia the menu offerings were somewhat different than I had expected. They don't have any veal or eggplant dishes and no anchovies. Though they have a number of other dishes, the menu seemed to me rather abbreviated and on the night I was there, a Monday, no specials. I ordered their Caesar, $12, which came with full wedge of artisan romaine cut in have, covered with a dressing, some croutons and a rather small amount of very thinly shaved parmesan. It certainly wasn't the classical Caesar one normally things of and though good enough the problem with having been stock like of romaine cut in half with the dressing dabbled on top, most of the romaine leafs remain uncoated of dressing. For my entrée I ordered their "Giant Diver Scallops," $28, wrapped with prosciutto over a cannellini bean salad with mushrooms drizzled with truffle oil. When served it came with three diver scallops and though large, nothing I would term as "giant," and though the mushrooms may or may not have been "wild" looked and tasted to me more like button types. Though tasty, nothing I thought unique or impressive. The restaurant itself is new, everything sparklingly clean and I was more than pleased with the service I was given. On the downside, however, the acoustics aren't that good and would think might be really bad when crowded. Indeed when I was there were two misbehaving unsupervised little brat children that did more than drown out the background music and could only bring to my mind the famous words of W. C. Fields when asked how he like children, responded: "Preferably broiled." Another thing I found rather different was that though they have a big parking lot, weren't at all busy, parking was by valet only. Valet might have been alright except for the fact that when I got back into my car it overwhelmingly reeked with what hit me, not as being the cologne of a male valet, but more the perfume of a women. I didn't think much of it until I joined some friends later for a drink and one of them remarked: "Phew! You smell just like my ex-wife." Oddly enough I must have had the same valet as Yelper Nikki H. who not only remarked of the same thing, but got a headache from it, which I totally believe. Overall, Bar Italia is a nice place, the food is average good, but with so many Italian restaurants in the area, some of them really excellent, the best I can say is "Meh, I've had better."

New restaurant. ..decided to check it out. Was a little annoyed that valet was the only parking option. Especially since the lot was empty and I could've easily parked myself. The food and menu didn't blow my mind but what we had was pretty good. We tried the Mediterranean octopus- came with arugula, wild mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes. Grilled Cervelata sausage- came on a bed of arugula, had peppers, smoked mozzarella and mushrooms. Finally the Rustica pizza- had prosciutto, more arugula, mushrooms, white truffle oil. we weren't disappointed with the food. And i liked that there were food runners... at least the food came out hot. I know that this is a new restaurant BUT no excuse for the service to be slacking. It took a while for anyone to even take our drink orders. ... we almost walked out. Overall we thought it was pretty average.

They offer a huge selection of beers. When I asked for the beer menu, they didn't have one. The waitress had to ask the bartender each time I asked if they had a certain beer on tap. We Didn't finish our dinner the chicken was so dry. Won't be going back.

Bar Italia I want nothing more than to see places in my neighborhood (north Ft Laud) to be opened and thrive. I again write this with a heavy heart because I really wanted to see this place make it. I read reviews here and kept an open mind, and just gave it a try. Wow, what a disappointment From a decor perspective, it's nice. A step below sexy, but nice. Turn the air up a bit. It is not an expensive place as one review states. I disagree. The most expensive entree is $36 and every other entree is in the 20's. Prices are reasonable, and that's good because the food is not good Let's start with the meatball appetizer. No flavor, is it pork, veal or beef? The menu doesn't say so and it just tastes like meat. No other flavor. The sauce does not even compare to a sauce in a jar. If this was a fast food Italian drive up restaurant , it would taste like this. Not exaggerating here. Worst meatball in town. Honestly, Subway meatball sand which is better If you are going to use the word "Italia" in your name, act like it. The menu is unimpressive to a fault. Short Ribs are sufficient. Chicken Milanese is a step above edible. Everyone I spoke to that works there was pleasant but not knowledgable. I asked my server what's good and she told me she had only tried 2 things. Really. One of the previous reviews said the same thing. If I'm the owner , I reading these reviews and correcting some things. How do you train a staff and not have them taste everything? This shows me they owner/manager just does not care. Especially after someone already said what I'm saying a week or two ago. Note to servers, at least attempt to skirt the question by saying, "many people rave about X". You show a lack of enthusiasm by saying you only tried a few things I asked my server about dessert and she told me about 2 items, and showed no enthusiasm , so I didn't even pay attention to what she was saying. Here's another place I really want to make it, but if it's not dark in 6 months tops, I'd be surprised Wake up owner/management! Read reviews and change things. Valet parking? Is that necessary? Your sign facing northbound traffic sucks and even though I drive by you every day, your hard to find. You put a cloth sign over it saying "now open" but at night you see minimal illumination. Use your heads Wine list is reasonably priced.

What's up with the valet parking??? Very annoying... The restaurant is beautiful..... the food is underwhelmlng..... the cheesecake was dry and flavorless. Our waiter was sweet but he wasn't the chef. Our food did not come out piping hot and the tomatoes in the caprese salad were not ripe at all. I took guest from out of town here...... not doing that again. Too many great restaurants in the area this one will not be in business for long if they don't do a better job ....... and the menu is on the boring side for Italian..... sorry!
(2)Jessica K.
Not impressed at all! Beautiful establishment yet lacked quality in drinks and food. A Cosmo that tasted like pure pink lemonade and a simple vodka tonic couldn't be executed. When I expressed my disappointment to the valet driver,he shared the info with the restaurant manager, who simply chuckled. Good luck buddy!

Edit: glad to hear it has closed, here is my review from a visit in early January. Avoid this restaurant. We came in early January when the restaurant was still fairly new and I forgot to submit this review, but I had such a horrible experience that I felt the need to follow up. Our waitress disappeared after taking our order, and only after about thirty minutes do we find out she had either quit or went home sick. This was not the fault of the restaurant except the efforts to recover were so poor that it took longer to even get bread to the table. After a long wait, our food came out poorly done (overcooked panini). The table next to us had been waiting an hour and forty five minutes for their food. Not rating it one star because the initial problem wasn't really the fault of the restaurant.

Just stopped by to check out the new restaurant. It offers complimentary valet parking. The new building is attractive with high ceilings. Bar Italia has a long bar area with bar seating and plenty of cocktail tables opposite. The bar has an excellent selection of craft beers that were half price during happy hour as were wines and cocktails. The menu seemed to be priced slightly higher than mid range. I tried the Shrimp fra diablo appetizer and my wife chose a Caesar salad with chicken. I am downing Tums as I write this as the appetizer was ridiculously hot. Spicy is one thing, but this was just silly. But the shrimp were plentiful and properly cooked. And it was well-priced as an appetizer. The chicken Caesar, on the other hand, was very bland. Weak dressing, no croutons, no Romano, chicken was roasted, not grilled. In its defense, however, the romaine lettuce was fresh as was the chicken. Bar Italia just might need some more time to get everything together. In the meantime, I'd go a half block further north to MoJos.

First time at this establishment. The ambiance is great! The decor is very modern and the service was excellent. However, the the food was just OK... Underwhelming to be exact.

Dear Bar Italia, you need A LOT of work. Valet parking only but the place was pretty empty, which is annoying (and they have plenty of parking spots...). Hostesses are all very confused, they don't know where to seat people in an empty restaurant. The dining room is a huge open room with lots of TV's and is extremely loud (crazy loud music). It seems they can't decide if they want to be a restaurant, nightclub, or a sport bar... so they chose to be all at once? Employees are not trained in basic restaurant procedures, they don't know how to deliver plates, how to give you silverware when they pick yours up, how to refill your drink, etc. Honestly I felt like I was eating at Bokamper's or some sports bar, a bunch of waitresses with skimpy outfits who don't know how to do anything besides pour beer. Food was also not very good, honestly identical to a lower end italian place like Carabba's or something. Low quality tomato sauce, greasy pizza -- not good in general. I guess thats the result when you rush to finish a place and then hurry and open before you have any time to train? Seems they basically hired anyone who walked into the door and opened the next day... I don't think it will last long.

Have been waiting for this place to open. Live near by and looked promising from the outside. Not so much on the inside. They opened two nights ago. Three of us arrived tonight to find they had run out of bourbon due to their opening night. They were out of Caesar salad as well. We were told we were to be to read at the table and did not. The place is very noisy. Valet seems unnecessary. Can't see the need at such a small parking lot. Disappointed because we were looking for a new place to eat close to home.

Open just 2 wks & looks like owners didn't look at the manual on how to run a great restaurant or at their competition! Place was loud & crowded - but primarily the service was nil; took 1/2 hr to get a glass of water delivered; the Chef obviously has 'not' tasted any of the food going out to the tables - lousy lobster soup & prosciutto sandwich - took over 1.45 mins. for service. There's a real restaurant right up the street - Bonefish that not only knows about great service but great food - suggest the owner(s) & their chef stop by!

Outstanding restaurant! I'm not sure what the fuss is about from some of the previous posters. You first drive up to a gentleman that escorts you out of your car. FREE valet service I like that. You walk in to big smiles by the host staff. Our server was super friendly. The prices are reasonable. The food is good. The place is beautiful. It's definitely not a fine dining restaurant but that's okay by me. That just means I can afford to go there more often.
(5)Caroline B.
Sorry to predict this restaurant just will not make it. I second all the complaints in everyone's reviews. Just have to reiterate that it appears they are trying to mimic the wait staff from YOLO with the same outfits but unfortunately the staff looks sloppy and they are not professional or even good servers. Oh, and the restaurant smells like a tire store. Are the bar stools made of rubber?
(1)Jim G.
Someone spent a small fortune fixing up this long-empty space into a cosmopolitan-feeling spot, which feels more like a nightclub than a restaurant. And you may want to stick with the cocktails and pass on the food, which is amateurish at best. And that's difficult to understand, with so many able competitors nearby, all of whom have much better food. The service was alright. My entree was described as a sauteed breast of chicken; in reality, it was a deep-fried, factory-breaded chicken cutlet. Awful.

Dined at bar Italia last night. It was a Wednesday so not too worried about it being crowded- it was not. Service was ok although our waiter did not offer any specials and was not that knowledgeable about menu items other than the description on the menu. I had the chicken Marsala and my husband had the short ribs. My chicken was definitely not fresh but frozen breast meat and the sauce was not rich and creamy. Best part of the dish was the mashed potatoes. My husbands short rib was also fairly bland and as he said, "there was no sear on it and there was no depth of flavor". The polenta was grainy and barely warm. I think this place may do better as a bar with small plates and appetizers than as a restaurant. For the price of the meals -don't think we'll be back for dinner - not with a great Italian restaurant across the street!
(2)Mary C.
Loud but not in a good, fun, way. Good sized portions but a little pricey for non-traditional "very" bland food. We totally agreed with a previous reviewer who commented on the conflicting atmosphere--a sports bar? or trying to be a fine restaurant? Good wine list but too many other new places yet to try...so we won't return. Overall, disappointed with most of our dinners so we didn't bother to stay & have an after dinner drink or try a dessert.

So this restaurant has only opened been 3 days now. The food was really good. We had 4 dishes and shared them together. Grilled Octopus with rabe and wild mushrooms. Delish Pasta with rabe and suasage was amazing! We wanted a spoon to drink the broth. Short ribs with polenta and figs with a wine sauce. It was so good good. It says truffle polenta but I did not taste the truffles. Otherwise it was amazing. Tiramisu was the only dessert available. It was very good but needed some texture. I would have added grounded up bissoti cookie crumbles for texture. I like texture but the flavors were good. Food portions were nice. Price is in the average range over all. I would say the octopus is priced a little higher then average to me. Nice selection of wine and great prices on the wine. You want to price the wine just right and they did a great job of that. I think they have it priced about 2o% less then other restaurants on the wine. Leanne was our waitress. It was her first day! She did a great job. Very sweet and friendly. She had first day hiccups but her great personality totally covered that. I am super pleased with this place. The wait for food might be a little longer for some people but that is normal for a new restaurant. I would rather wait a few minutes longer for great food. If I had an issue is that there seems to be no outdoor dining or patio. I do recommend going here. The staff was friendly and it should only become even better. I know that next time I go here it will be five stars.

Another visit last night to my new fav. joint. Had to comment as the other reviews are waaay off on the quality and potential of this place. IMO. A few items: -lots of comments on the noise....hey if you want quiet, eat at home...every popular busy restaurant is always a bit noisy. Otherwise, gorgeous décor. -food...7-8 stars out of 10. don't forget, new place, food we ordered was timely and pretty tasty. This I am certain will improve even more with time. -staff...courteous and trying their best. Things always are rough on a brand new restaurant, and they will need time to sharpen the staff to perfection. Summary: A place opens to service the community, these owners have spent a s**tload of cash to open here and I for one will help them by going there and giving them the opportunity to get even better...haters, go somewhere else, I would rather not see you there. So you go to your corporate soulless format restaurants, since you have no concept of a good thing.

They've been open for a week, as of our visit tonight. We went on Saturday at 9 PM. Had to valet, as it was busy and the only option. Valet warned us without a reservation there was at least a 30 minute wait. We love to eat at the bar, so we knew that was not a big deal. Service, drinks, and the food was fantastic. We had a wonderful experience. We decided to spit an appetizer and an entree. The cook came out to deliver our clams linguine, and also had an extra bowl of clams for us to share, on the house! For being open for just a week we were very impressed with the staff and food. Would highly recommend. Great wine and beer selection too.
(5)wendy l.
The food was great we had the meatballs, calamari and mussels for apps then dinner. The only complaints were one of us added shrimp to a dish 2 medium shrimp were $9 and it is very loud. Service was great.
(4)Lindsay S.
Tried going there on a Monday... At 8pm... And closed. Not sure if they are out of business already. Wish I could give a review of this place which we have been wanting to go to.but seeing as how it is either out of business or so lame that they closed early we will never go back.
(1)Luis T.
Shame on me for not reading reviews for this place. Starting with the valet guy's attitude, bad service overall. There are way better places around the area, please do not waste your time or money coming to Bar Italia
(1)Michael B.
Believe it or not, I ordered a Celery and Pear Salad. When it came to me almost 30 minutes after it was ordered, guess what.... NO celery or pears or walnuts (which were also supposed to be on it). Crazy! The place looks nice but it's loud! Whoever decorated it should be called out! Service extremely below par but for one extremely nice bartender named Laura. A Lot of improvements are needed... or this place won't last until summer!!
(2)Natasha B.
Came here for their grand opening! Absolutely beautiful venue, great staff and friendly owners and most of all... delicious food and drinks! There's nothing like it in this area, we definitely needed it! Will be back soon! :) Try the scallops you won't be disappointed!
(5)Catherine K.
The only good thing about this place was the atmosphere. The food was horrible. I ordered a margarita and it tasted like it came from a box. The service was terrible and prices were moderate but a soda was $3 and a beer was $4 and they charged for refills really?? We complained to manager and he brought us complimentary desserts and then the waiter charged them too our bill. I don't see this place staying in business. I suggest la Bamba or Deangelos don't wage your time!!!
(1)Mark S.
Very pleasantly surprised by their quality and great service. Got drinks within 5 minutes and appetizers within ten. The only drawback was the narrow menu. I can't give an Italian restaurant without veal parmagiana a 5. However their short rib and spaghetti bolognese was superb. Nice to go into SE FL Italian joint where the average age is below 74. Very nice ambience with excellent music.
(4)Jeff P.
Too bad you can't give a restaurant less than one star on Yelp, because that would be fitting for Bar Italia. This place is an insult to the Fort Lauderdale restaurant vibe and I have zero expectaion it will survive out of season. I realized after writing this review it won't matter. It was terrible and will be closed and gone soon. We locals have FAR too many excellent REAL italian places all along N Federal to eat here. Sorry, not a single element made this a good dining experience. Wait, they have a lot of TVs... There, something to enjoy. Really, this is the best you guys can do? Don't walk, run from this place.
(1)Scott R.
We were very excited to try this new restaurant but were very disappointed with our visit. It appears that the restaurant has an identity issue. There is a very large bar with TV's placed around the entire bar giving the feel of a sports bar. The restaurant is very open and nice enough but the TV's can be seen everywhere. As for the food, well we started with calamari and got what appeared to be frozen onion rings from Costco. We did not eat these and the waitress did take this item off the check. We ordered the Skirt Steak salad which arrived at our table without one of the main ingredients, blue cheese. Need we say anything???? We also ordered the Bolognese pasta dish and well, it was rather bland. I would not classify this restaurant as being Italian.
(1)Beatrice Z.
Just opened and we decided to give it a try. Glad we did. Great environment and service. Food was good. You can tell they are trying to get things together but they just opened and we will come back. The chocolate moose dessert was awesome.
(5)Danny S.
Awesome atmosphere, upbeat staff, and a cheap drink happy hour but their happy hour food menu is definitely a disappointment.. The choices and price both left me thinking not to come back just for the bar.. The food menu looks good though and I'll be back to try supper.
(4)Andy B.
Second time here.....not sure how things could have gone down hill in such a short amount of time (3 weeks?) maybe a change in management? Regardless, our waitress was great, but the owners or managers obviously have no idea how to run a restaurant. I honestly felt bad for our waitress...she should be working somewhere much better! The restaurant was nearly empty (no wonder), our food still took a while to come out and was just very bland. Not worth the price. Even the bread was bad! At least the wine was good...can't really mess that up! Will not return!
(1)Dan L.
First time at Bar Italia. Really enjoyed this place. Great bar, beautifully decorated, good service and the food was delicious. If you haven't been yet, you should give this place a try. We'll be back.
(4)Todd F.
Space is nice. Service was good. Food just OK. Will give it another try in a few months.
(2)Carrie B.
First time at Bar Italia. Decor is beautiful. Service was great. Bar is huge and has a very large selection. Valet only, wish they had regular parking. I tried a salad as an appetizer and it was fine. I had the branzino for dinner and it was truly amazing. Can't wait to come back and try more items from the menu.
(4)Denise S.
New place, inside looks amazing. Went to the bar to have a glass of wine while I waited for a few friends to show up and asked the guy behind the bar what selection of Malbec's they have. He looked puzzled and showed me a menu. I noticed all the bartenders had on black shirts, this guy had on a white shirt. Must have been a manager who is clueless on the wine selection. Service at the table was ok. Asked the waitress about a dish and she said "she hasn't seen that one yet so she's not sure". We had calamari and rustic caprese for an app... Nothing special. For dinner we had salmon, chicken milanese, penne alla vodka, linguine white clams, and ravioli. Again, nothing special just over priced. Something must have been contaminated because we were a party of 6 and 2 of the girls vomited. Needles to say we won't be going back. If you want good Italian food and excellent service go up the block to cafe vico or casa d'angelo.
(1)Dede L.
wow....openig nite....great!! from the warm welcome to the great food...great service....can't wait to go back...sandra at the bar and susan to kaine and john....nirvana...run to this great place
(5)D V.
The one star is for the apologetic manager and the waitress. THE ONE SHOT THEY HAD... THEY BLEW IT! The food (what did make it to the table) was cold and bland. I would say the fish was great... But, that entree never made it whereas the waitress asked if she could box it???? Why go to dinner with friends if you don't eat with them?
(1)Ricky R.
After checking in with the valet my gf and I went on yelp. We thought for sure our experience was going to suck. Not the case. Too many suspect reviewers on here with only 1 to 4 reviews. Get a life. We had the caprese and shrimp apps. You really can't mess up mozzarella and tomatoes so that was good. The shrimp came in a spicy red tomato sauce. Damn that shit was mad good and a fav so far. My girl had the crusted salmon. She can be picky af. She liked it so that says a lot. I had the short ribs. Really didn't need a knife. I was just pulling meat off with my fork. Cooked on point very tender. My only complaint is the sides of broccoli rabe. That needs to go. Maybe asparagus or spinach instead would have been better. Well be back.
(4)Nikki H.
I forgot to say the Valet had so much Cologne on that on my ride home I did really get a headache

Restaurant CLOSED its doors

My girlfriend and I went there last night because we wanted to try something new. I immediately regretted it. The staff is so inexperienced that I felt embarrassed for them. The food was mediocre and definitely in my opinion overpriced. Oh and the menu had spelling errors which the waiter pointed out as soon as we sat down. My advice to the owner is to hire people that have restaurant and bar experience. I have a feeling that this place will be closed in 6 months.
(2)Amanda T.
We were excited to try out this new restaurant but disappointed once we got there. It was empty and very hot, my husband was sweating the whole time. The food was alright, we sent a couple things back. My Italian salad had no flavor and the octopus was extremely chewy. There was a decent wait for food considering they were empty. The look inside was nice, they also have a nice area to sit and relax with drinks outside. Probably won't be going back.
(3)Marlene M.
Service was great, however the food was nothing to talk about. My husband had the pasta fagioli " no flavor" meatballs were definitely not fresh. The only good thing was the Ravioli and wine. Will definitely not return. :(
