Absolutely great steak served by efficient waitstaff. Had the Cesare salad and it was also good. Definitely recommend the fresh bread with whipped butter. This is a must if you want to have steak while on Amelia Island.

Been several years since I last ate at Baxters. This really is the only steak restaurant on the island. They also have seafood items, and after eating the 2 fried shrimp in our fried green tomato appetizer, I can recommend the fried shrimp dinner entree. Caesar salad was, in my opinion, superior to the garden salad. Fresh bread is very good, as others have commented. We had the petite filet, the steak Diane, which is also filet, and the ribeye. All entrees were very good with sautéed veggies and choice of potato. Filet was very tender, good flavor, and cooked as ordered. The ribeye was a good steak, but I might give the edge to either filet on this occasion. To put it in perspective, Baxters should give you a better steak experience than Longhorn, but not quite on the level of Ruth's Chris. Price point will be between the 2 previously mentioned chains as well. As I remembered from previous visits, Baxters delivered a solid meal.

The food is ok. Not great, but good enough. The service is good; attentive without being intrusive. My wife and I both had steaks. They were both over cooked but not too bad. The baked potato had obviously been cooked hours ago and kept warm. Our orders were brought to the table wrong but the waitress fixed the problems cheerfully. Overall, not quite worth the money, but not awful. One note: what is with the t-shirts on the waitstaff? If they are trying for an upscale experience, and the food is only mediocre, they should at least put the waitstaff in nicer outfits.

Yelp rating system (Three stars = A-OK) Steaks are just okay. Don't get your hopes too high up. Nothing special. It's not bad but they do all this boasting about amazing steaks which is not really that true.

Friendly hostess. Our waitress was forgetful . For a Restuarant with such pricey items it seems a bit out of place to see wait staff wearing t-shirts. I ordered cream mushroom and asparagus soup which was inedible. My ribeye steak was thin over cooked and tasteless. Served frozen over cooked ,soggy, listless veggies. My husband ordered steak Diane which tasted like beef stroganoff . Interestingly the daily special was beef stroganoff . He said it tasted like pot roast with cream of mushroom. (cream of asparagus?) same as my appetizer? Came with the same over cooked soggy vegetable medley and bland over cooked soggy rice . The only thing more surprising then their claim that they had the best steaks was that they have remained open and that we were gullible enough to believe them. In all it wasn't really terrible but very marginal at best. Probably the worst dining experience we've had in years despite the price. We will always remember Baxters, but not for the right reasons!

My husband and I had a really great dinner here. Steaks were top notch! Our server was very attentive. A do over!

Surf and turf was well worth it!

I was a little hesitant to come here because of some of the reviews but what a pleasant surprise. The food and service was excellent. I would rate them 4.5 stars. Starting with the bread that was baked with a crispy shell yet so soft and doughy in the middle - more please. My steak was seasoned and cooked exactly the way I like it - medium. It was so flavorful that I dipped the bread in the juices. Needless to say I needed no steak sauce. It was tender. Well worth it. My wife had the chicken Marsala with pasta. It too was cooked very well. There was plenty of sauce and mushrooms. The chicken was not under or over cooked as it was moist. Again a good pasta dish. We had no room for dessert, but the next table ordered the carrot cake which looked yummy. Maybe next time. Overall we were pleased with the service and atmosphere. When we return to Amelia island we will definitely come back.

It's my fault really. I keep going back when I know better. But inevitably, every few months, I say to my family "let's try Baxters again" when they consistently serve bad food. If I had given my dog the prime rib we were served last night she would have without a doubt looked at me with those sad puppy eyes and wonder why I was being so mean to her. Their only redeeming quality, besides the Brie and garlic appetizer, is their somewhat decent service. Until last night. Our dirty salad dishes, empty drinks and bread less bread plate just sat and sat and sat on our table. I just kept piling them up myself and they just continued to sit there. And I just kept chewing on that same piece of meat that I couldn't seem to swallow. It was like chewing a piece of rubber. I finally had to resort to eating my child's buttered spaghetti. Well, at least that had some flavor once I added salt and pepper. My husband just looked at me and said "I told you so, but I do love your continuous optimism." Then the bill came. $100. Save yourself the cash. Go to a burger joint. The burger you get will be leaps and bounds better than any steak you can get at Baxters and you will already be prepared to bus your table yourself. All for a quarter of the price. I will give this to Baxters...they are always crowded. Best I can tell it's one continuous happy hour and pickup joint. So, if you are interested in drinks and company, BUT NOT FOOD, this is the place for you!!

I lived on Amelia Island back in the mid-90's and Baxter's was around then. It's still there and so is the same bartender Mike. He did a good job then and still takes care of his bar guests. Reasonably priced food and drinks, but the preparation lacks a little something. Stopped in one night for a burger at the bar. For the price, it's a great deal, but if was over cooked, the tomato was all white and hard (inedible) and although I asked for onion and a side of BBQ, they didn't come with the burger...had to ask again. Went back a few days later for dinner. Then seafood platter had shrimp, grouper and scallops, but again, lacked any flavor. I know grouper is flavorless, but the Cajun seasoning was not present. Service was great on the return visit. Overall, good to stop in for drinks. Not my first choice for food.

Amazing! Great food and great service My fiancé and I just happened across this gem while driving. We plan to come back on every future Amelia island trip!

Food was tasty, over priced for slightly tattered surroundings and staff in tee shirts and sneakers. Was quick in and out.

Great food! My steak was cooked to perfection and seasoned well. My wife loved her salmon. Really enjoyed! Would go again the next time I'm down this way!

Had the filet mignon, the sign say best steaks in town but I've had better!! It's defiantly a older person hangout. So go there to feel young!

Great dining experience for my family! We very much enjoyed our dinner at Baxters! Our group included our boys ages 5 and 6 who were perfectly happy with their meals! The service was excellent - very friendly and helpful. Decent wine list and my filet mignon was cooked perfectly!

Cute local hangout! The bar is very busy and the place serves a nice selection of food. I have this on my list for my return to Amelia Island!

As you pull into Baxter's you are greeted with a sign that states, "Best steaks on the Island". You are further encouraged by the prices of the steaks on the menu--pricey. Once you have placed your order and presented your food you realize this place specializes in deception, not great steaks. If this the the best steak on the island, then the world of meat on Amelia is in serious trouble. A group of us play golf in Amelia every March. This year is the fifth and final visit to Baxter's. We are carnivores and love our meat. So, we have kept this place on our agenda in hopes that this year will be better than last. I have tried the strip and the filet. The steaks are chewy and uninspiring. These might work in Applebee's kitchen for $13.95, but for mid to high $20s, not so. For a couple of years I went for the fish specials and was not impressed. This year I opted for a burger, ordered it medium rare and got a hockey puck. I almost gave this place two stars because one of our members said his surf and turf as very good, while the other 6 of us vowed never to return. Then I remembered the sign in front and had to push this back to only one star.

Great local place - incredible bar staff - good steaks. Try the home made ranch dressing

Baxter's is Amelia islands version of cheers. The majority of my time was spent at the bar having drinks and a late night snack. The bartenders are snarky yet very funny. They will be your friends remember your name and your drink of choice. Matt "aka Dexter" to the locals, and Michael "aka Doc" run the bar like a well oiled machine. As the night goes on, the atmosphere gets better and better. Ask them for a TicTac, a custom drink that Matt and Michael have mastered. As far as the food is concerned its much what you would expect from a place like Baxter's, with a few very unusual additions, the escargot are not too shabby. The burgers are the exception, standout burgers that make you grin ear to ear. 3 stars because im really cheap with my stars but also because this is a great place to grab a burger and a beer if you don't want to be "downtown" and just want a place to stop in get good service and go home. Baxter's should not be confused for a high end steakhouse, or fine dinning experience.
