Ok...let me preface this review by saying I NEVER TASTED THE FOOD. HOWEVER, I was on vacation recently and stopped into this place, because earlier that day they had a HUGE banner flying overhead and advertised "ALL YOU CAN EAT CRAB". So I canceled my previous plans and thought I would give this place a try. Parked and walked into this place and the front door looks like a back door. Not very inviting. The atmosphere seemed decent inside. I waited for 10 minutes just to be told that if I didn't make a reservation I couldn't get in because they were booked solid. When I first walked in I was told to wait and I would be helped "soon". The first thing out of their mouth should have been, "Do you have a reservation?" and when I said no, the next thing should have been "I'm sorry, we are booked for the night." That would have taken less than 30 seconds and I could have been on my way. So a little word to the wise for your advertising, you may not want to advertise flying over head with a banner on a day you knew you'd book up the restaurant. Glad all these other folks liked your food. Unfortunately, I will never know because you get a HUGE demerit in customer service.

3 stars for AVERAGE. Place has no real appeal....service was friendly but way too slow! Rock Shrimp were good; however they just were caught....tjey better be good. Why would anyone leave the strip ar NSB to go here....makes no sense.

I started going to JC's Lobster Pot in Ormond Beach in the early 80's. The family owned retardant served the best and freshest seafood in town. The family sold and the food quality went with it. That restaurant closed in the 90's. JC's family now opened Riptides with the same wonderful food, friendly people, and full bar. Simply put, if you want the freshest cooked seafood around, go to jc's. While I stick to the seafood, my wife had a steak that was great too. All the salad dressings are homemade and the key lime pie was good too. If you are in Daytona for the races or just passing through, this is well worth the visit. Ask for Niney and tell her the Rosenberg's sent you...

One of our favorite places to eat! Not fancy but you will leave full! Rock ship and prime rib are fantastic and my husband is a big fan of the oak hill chowder! Friendly staff!

Happened to come across a photo of Dave O's of a big ol' slab of blackened red snapper. Well it is my birthday and my choice of restaurants--Riptide's here we come! Had the Blackened Mahi Mahi with a baked sweet potato and it was sheer heaven, A puddle of melted butter oozed down the sides of the foil wrapper. Indescribable. Filled up on the water and fresh smoked fish dip --again mahi mahi and some other type fish--delish and most of my cole slaw. Tasted the Mahi Mahi to try it hot INCREDIBLE! Came home stuffed and thoroughly happy with my choice of restaurant and it is definitely on our "come back to " visit list for dining establishments in the local area.

Okay it's only been a week since our last visit but we were invited by some close friends and decided it was JC's for (7) at 6 PM. We arrived on time and they were a little backed up it was Saturday night so we decided to have a cocktail at the bar the bartender was extremely friendly and helpful and yes they had "redbull" I immediately knew this was going to be a great night. What a great way to start the evening a tall double Ketel One with Redbull. The manager checked on us a few times and had our server Amy seat us as soon as a table freed up no more than 15 minutes after we arrived. Let me start by saying the service here is impeccable all the small details that you would expect are covered here. I think you can trust the service is always going to be good that's the culture. We started out with fired mushrooms and fried alligator both were excellent the alligator was perfectly done some of the best I've eaten in a long time. I then ordered the Oak Hill Chowder just to confirm I wasn't dazzled by my first experience it was exactly the same it is sooooo yummy. I really tried to order something else besides the surf and turf it wasn't meant to be But I did switch the broiled rock shrimp for the fried rock shrimp and wasn't disappointed. I must try other things I know so my next visit I will explore other options. This could become a regular stop for us and why not Flagler avenue has become such a hit or miss option that caters to the tourist and snow birds instead of us locals that spend money year around. If you want great seafood and awesome prime rib you should give them a try, it's very casual and it's a place where they appreciate you visiting their restaurant. They earned the extra star our party was very happy from start to finish. Thanks Amy for providing us with excellent service and a great evening.

It's too bad when someone like Elizabeth writes such a bad review about a place that was not even the place she thought she was going too. Evidently she never did figure it out. The banner she saw was for Riptides in Ormond Beach. So I would discount pretty much everything she has to say! We went to Riptides in spite of her review and had very good service and a great meal!

Riptides has always been one of my favorite Seafood restaurants in town, but its not in the heart of the restaurant area so I think travelers tend to over look it. I am a seafood lover, and my boyfriend isn't, and he loved the shrimp he got. As far as I'm concerned they have HANDS DOWN, the best scallops in this area, and I try them everywhere. The Oak Hill chowder's name always gives me a chuckle, but it is also one of my favorite soups in town (I do not eat salad, so I am a soup connoisseur). It has a nice atmosphere and has become one of my favorite low key date night restaurants. Sometimes when it gets packed the service is slow, but the food is well worth the wait. Also. be sure to check the Pennysaver and local coupon books because they usually run ads with coupons in them there.

I have no idea how this place has four stars! Where are these patrons normally eating that they would rate this restaurant highly?! Sorry, I do not like giving bad reviews but this place is really sad and disappointing. Service was sweet but incredibly slow. The salad was soggy and made with old lettuce, one limp slice of cucumber, and a tomato slice that contained the "stem" portion, topped with a sprinkle of cheep pre-bagged shredded cheese. The fries and the mahi-mahi were definitely straight from the freezer and tasted like cardboard. My order of scampi rock shrimp was the only thing we even bothered to finish ... Not bad but I have also had so much better (JB's fish camp) ... It's not even like their prices are anything special, so I'm totally lost as to why anyone eats here. This isn't meant to be personal, just an honest review on truly horrible food.
