Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Authentically good in taste, price and portion. The cup size containing the lemonade was outrageous, you can probably share the drink with another person if both drink sparingly. The salsa was flavorful and hot, with fresh chips that accentuate the boldness of the salsa. The menu is long, but don't worry, you'll have plenty of time to decide what you want as the servers take their time in coming back for orders. I ordered #7, enchiladas with rice and beans (with choice of either chicken or beef), hubsie - #2, with tacos, chalupas, & burrito (caution: they only give you beef) mother & father in law- carne asada & 2 enchiladas combination #? & #24 (respectively). I enjoyed my enchiladas, but would've preferred either less beef or more flavor to the ground beef inside the enchiladas. The rice and beans were amazing, period. Mother in law shared some carne asadas, and they were very flavorful - it was served on a skillet, with what seemed like grilled onions and green peppers, with rice, beans, and tortillas on the side. I did dock off some points on behalf of the enchiladas' ground beef, the fact that there was no huevos rancheros on the menu (my favorite dish), and the wait time. But all in all, it was very filling and would definitely come back again, given the opportunity. Word of caution, they close at 2 p.m., so be there on time, or you WILL be left out cold, hungry, and lonely on the porch as you drool watching other patrons (who arrived earlier than 2 p.m.), enjoy their hearty and delicious meals.

My family & my self had a wonderful dinner the other night. Food was great, everyone was on the ball, did not wait for anything. If you like traditional Mexican food this is the place.

I'm going to have to call BS on the "I'm from CA and know good Mexican food" review. (Plus the restaurant is in MARION county, NOT Citrus) This place is DISGUSTING! Dirty and the food is TERRIBLE. I'm not from CA but I eat out 170+ nights a year and this place is TERRIBLE. Ordered the Guac appetizer (no flavor) ordered fried ice cream (terrible) and taquitos (greasy and bad)

Best Mexican food in the area! We drive a good 30 minutes from Floral City to Dunnellon to have this authentic Mexican Food! Wait staff are very friendly and funny! We have been coming here for about 3-4 years at least once a week. Everything is always fresh, and tasty, and you cant beat the prices! This little Mexican restaurant is not a secret anymore, if you plan on going on a Friday or Saturday night, plan on waiting for a while to get a seat! I promise it's worth the wait!

We travel in from another town to enjoy the mexican food here. It's halfway for our family to meet up. Cute little restaurant and good food with big helpings. I usually get the flautas or the cheese enchiladas. They use good cheese in their food (you can tell the difference). Just keep in mind that they are usually very busy and their building cannot really accomodate parties bigger than 6.

We loved this place for years. We would spend $20-$40 a week. (The skinny guy is a hoot). We had a to go order for $15 I left a $3 tip. Went outside and realized I had no salsa for the 2 meals. When I asked for some salsa she said $3 I said NO chips just salsa she still wanted $3....That is why you will not be getting any more advertisement from us or our money

I had lunch here ... liked it and went back for more. Large portions of exactly what you order! Tasty and satisfying ... typical mexican fare ... reasonably priced. Recommended.

Best mex ever!

I am a connoisseur of Mexican food, having come from CA and this is the best place in Citrus County! Love, love, love it! It's become a family tradition.

This is a pretty typical Mexican-American restaurant in Dunnellon, serving the type of combination platters you'll find in most Mexican-American places but not the really really authentic Mexican food you can get at a few places around Ocala. That is not saying this isn't good, it's just more Tex-Mex than authentic Mexican. The fahitas are very good and all their platters are pretty inexpensive. Also, the building the restaurant is in--a converted old house--is very cute and their job of decorating it varies between expected items which bring Mexico to mind and things like tacky-cute paintings of wolves and leaping dolphins (but alas, no leaping wolves!) that you might find at a truck stop gift shop. It's seriously cute, whether or not that was exactly the intention of whomever decorated the place.
(4)Donna L.
Good food here. Service is a bit slow but they have typical Mexican-American food. No complaints from me on the taste and amount you get.
(4)Dave G.
Family owned restaurant serving excellent Mexican cuisine. Their "Fahitas Texanas" is one of our favorites. It is outstanding and loaded with shrimp, chicken and steak. Get the single serving and it is enough to feed two hungry people. The staff have all worked there a long time and they take good care of you. It's located in an old house and it's not very fancy but the food and service is very good and that's all that really matters. We've been going weekly for over three years.

Ok, as a real Mexican who was used to eating homemade tortillas at home growing up, this place is better than most places in Jacksonville. Not real authentic Mexican food but it is edible.
(3)Tom K.
The options for good mexican food in Citrus County are pretty limited. OK, a lot limited. But I am a fan of this place for sure. This is an old house. There is not a great deal of seating so if it is busy you may do some waiting. It is a simple place. Stone parking lot and men's room is in separate building. But it was worth it for the meal that we had. Cervesa Fria and chips for starters. The depth of flavor of the salsa is good. Nice herbs. It could have been a bit more bitey for my taste, but good. After that the menu is super simple and what you would expect. My wife had enchilada, tacos, beans and rice. They were all spot on and the cheese sauce on the enchilada was the right combination. I had the specialty steak soft tacos, the meat in this was awesome. I am assuming it was the fajita meat but had a nice smokey taste to it. Hard to pin down but really good. Also a comment on the beans, they were really good. I am not sure what the one extra flavor, might have been a touch of liquid smoke or different way of prepping the beans, I just thought they were a touch different than "out of the can" and worthy of note. I would be back in a heart beat.

Nice homey spot for lunch and dinner. We enjoyed our dinner. Large portions. Chicken Chimichanga was super!

This an awesome place it was an old house in the middle of the city very small but great food and they also do the split lunch and dinner 11:00 to 2:00 and 5:00 to 9:00 closed on Sunday. The staff here speak broken English but are very knowledgeable of the food and give great customer service. The food here is the best we have found in a 80 mile radius it doesn't get any better. The burritos are all made wet, the tamales, Pepes tacos, carne asada, enchiladas, I always get the combination plates. People always say it's like home or better than mom can make. FYI dinner starts at 5:00 so you want to be there by 4:30 usually there is a wait but not long.
(5)Alvin W.
Being from Texas we know TexMex and this isn't it. The frozen section at wally world has better. If you don't know any better I guess it's okay. The service is okay.
(1)Patti B.
Good food but needed more lunch staff. We arrived in the middle of the rush and so the service was slow. The food was worth waiting for because it was great! We would Hobart again!!
(4)Duncan N.
Insipid flavors are the center piece - you might as well go to Taco Bell. I had a beef chimichanga it was unseasoned hamburger in a bland tortilla. The beans were a flavorless slurry. Go across the street to the seafood place and get a decent meal.
(1)Brynn G.
Food is average Mexican food but the portions are large. Service can be extremely slow but that is also due to how busy it gets at dinner. The location is nice and feels warm and welcoming. They don't have a full bar, just some wine, select beers and margaritas. Overall it's okay but nothing different than any other hole in the wall Mexican restaurant that I've been to.
