There's a reason this place wins Best of Tampa Bay Awards every year...the Ice Cream and Cakes are incredible...I have been to the Dunedin and Palm Harbor Locations numerous times and am never disappointed...both always have alot of interesting Ice Creams...my current favorites are the Coconut Chocolate Chunk and The Carrot Cake Flavors...others in the Family rave about the Banana..Strawberry..and Black Cherry Versions..Cakes are Out of This World also...both locations are very dog friendly which makes it a great stop for us...they will even give you a Doggy Cone for free...Employees are very friendly even though they are usually slammed....only reason I am not giving it 5 Stars is the Prices are pretty high..a single scoop in a cup or a Cone is over 3 and a single slice of one of their cakes is running 6 these days....even with that I still make it a point to stop in every time I come to Tampa

We went for dessert recently, great ice cream! Highly recommended!
(5)Diana R.
Excellent ice cream! I have been coming to Dunedin for years and it definitely needed an ice cream spot. Came here two nights this week on a three-night trip... it was just delicious! Mint cookie the first time (amazing proportion of cookies to mint), and birthday cake flavor the next time. Loved their line-up of flavors. Desserts in the fridge looked incredible. Can't wait to visit Strachan's on my next visit to Dunedin!
(5)Annelise D.
Delish, delish and delish! It is cash only but the flavors are amazing and worth scrounging for change in your purse bottom! Yum!!
(5)Chris H.
Great ice cream and fast service. Walked into the store and the lobby was packed. Almost left but decided to stay since it was much cooler inside than out. They worked through the crowd in record time. Their ice cream is fantastic. You've got to try it. They have tons of flavors to choose from plus other deserts.
(5)Sarah H.
Love love love this place. Great location in downtown Dunedin, benches under and overhang outside, and of course, amazing ice cream. Pumpkin, cookies & cream and coffee, cherry vanilla, double chocolate fudge... all delicious with that homemade flavor. Plus a few different flavors, like popcorn and carrot cake, neither of which I've tried yet but sound good. There's also a large array of homemade fudge, pies and cakes, and milkshakes, so if you want sweet, they've pretty much got you covered! Whenever I go, the staff is always friendly and upbeat too, which is definitely a plus.
(5)Jay O.
Yes please, they have frosti cream and blue cream soda.
(4)C David S.
What do you do when you have a craving for a milkshake? I hit up yelp and this place was 700 feet away. What's not to love? They make the ice cream right on site ...and it is delicious. When you enter the restaurant the aroma is intoxicating - fresh ice cream, fresh cake, fresh fudge. The Shake was perhaps one of the best of ever had. And also perhaps one of the most expensive. But hey, you pay for quality. I stuck my straw into the almond Joy flavor thick cup and yes- it's just like the candy bar. I'll be back!
(5)Jessica D.
Absolutely love their homemade ice cream and desserts!!! They have the BEST carrot cake and I just love their black cherry flavor of ice cream! DELICIOUS!!!! They also have an outdoor window if you come on a bike and can't go inside...and to top it off if your bring your dog they will give you a free doggy cone!!!
(5)Haley D.
This nostalgic ice cream parlor is one of the reasons why I make the drive to Dunedin. This establishment encompasses the small town feeling that old school ice cream shops possessed. Not only was the staff friendly and inviting to our entire group of family and friends, they provided some of the best ice cream I've ever tasted. With fresh ingredients, and savory flavors like rum raisin and salted caramel, this shop is bound to impress. If ice cream isn't your cup of tea, they also serve pies and cookies. I didn't try any of them but I will definitely be back for another taste. You should too!
(5)Jim K.
Their ice cream is the best, that's went they get five stars. Their brownie sundae rocks and their chocolate chocolate chunk is to die for! You can never go wrong at Strachan's!
(5)Dianna B.
Homemade ice cream is always yummy on a warm spring day. And they always have some of the best flavors out there. Hand made waffle cones, dipped key lime pops, frozen bananas on sticks make for decadent treats. The main drawback is the line. There is -always- a line for this shop, and even with 3 people dishing out the goodness, it still seems to take forever. ***a note to those with nut allergies. Make them aware, so they can change their scoops. ***
(3)Briana C.
We stopped at this quaint little ice cream shop after a day trip to Honeymoon Island State Park. Must have the yum yum sauce! The ice cream was just as tasty but the yum yum sauce is what will keep me coming back! Grab a scoop or two and have a nice little walk around this cute town!
(5)David B.
Delicious little neighborhood ice cream parlor. They let you taste samples, and the two of us went with the strawberry as well as cookie dough, two days in a row! Beware: "One scoop" is huge and at least three scoops. Probably a good thing when the ice cream is this good.
(5)Kai R.
I have heard about this place. We wanted ice cream so bad, but guess what? They use the same scoops in all of their ice cream. My son has a peanut allergy. So even if they change the scoops, they have been using other scoopers in the different ice creams all day. Why they do not have one ice cream scooper per flavor or wash the scoopers after every scoop? I can't answer that, so we bought one scoop for my younger son and left. Here is the thing, they have nut allergy warnings on all of their other products, but not on their ice cream freezer. So the ice cream might be good, but not worth my son's life.
(1)Patrick H.
Huge scoops of delicious ice cream here. I loved my black cherry and chocolate chocolate chunk on a waffle cone!
(4)Happiness L.
Overall this place is great. They has some kind of special sauce for ice cream that someone recommended yet for me it was just soso. The people who work here are super friendly. I like the plain ice cream. Very very delicious. I combined the banana and peanut butter ice creams which made it extra great. Yum! I recommend adding short tables as not everyone can sit in a high chair. Very cute place.
(4)Richard P.
I came here with family as the waitress at the restaurant we ate dinner heartily recommended it. I wanted something low fat or low calorie and they only had soft-serve frozen yogurt, but one of the young ladies working there suggested I try the sugar free butter pecan. Great. Serve me up a scoop. I was handed the scoop... the rather tiny scoop... couldn't have been 1/3 a cup, but I'll be generous and say it was... OK... her cohort stated firmly and loudly the cost of this 1/3 cup scoop before I had even fully taken it from the young lady, and I felt rushed and it broke my dessert reverie for a second, but no matter... $4.27... for one.... tiny.... scoop. Hmmmmm... did they not like me? Was I too fat and they were trying to "help" me? It was a RIDICULOUSLY small scoop of ice-cream for that kind of money. I just read through some of the reviews and someone wrote "large" scoops of ice-cream await... OK... so what did I do? I was ebullient. I was friendly. I'm gay as was one of the gentlemen who worked there. I thought everything was copacetic. Apparently not. I felt strangely hurt as well as sad that my sugar free ice cream dessert was inadequate. It tasted great, but NO ICE-CREAM IN THE WORLD IS WORTH $13.11 PER CUP (that's $209.76 per gallon by the way). Maybe if it had 18k gold flakes in it or something. I would have felt fine if I had a normal 1/2 cup portion for a high-end price, but I didn't even get that. Sad. Won't go back. I'm scarred.
(1)V J.
Super yummy ice cream and shakes. We've been in Florida for couple of weeks and already went to this place three times. They have a lot of different flavors, definitely something for everyone.
(5)Brian S.
Great local ice cream joint. Lots of fun flavors. Really liked the Almond Joy. Homemade brownies and other sweets. Frozen choc dipped bananas. Recommend.
(4)Brett N.
Why 5 stars? Because they have cotton candy ice cream. --- --- --- Do I need to type anything else? Seriously, that's absolutely all that's needed. But to expound... it's delicious. Strachan's is one of those places that just looks as inviting as possible, and then lives up to the hype. Dunedin is awesome, and this is business is one of the reasons.
(5)Kathy D.
When I was a kid my dad wanted to buy a Bresslers franchise, so for months we frequented the ice cream shop and sampled everything. I had heard about this shop and was curios to try it and there it was before my eyes in the rain. I ran into the stone seeking refuge from the rain. They have an outdoor eating area with tables and umbrellas and for a Wednesday night it was packed. On my way in I saw a sign that said " Ask for a free sample of our fudge". On the left was a case with various types of fudge. I homed in on the dark chocolate with carmel and sea salt, truly delicious. The staff is not very excited to be working and did not even ask if I wanted to buy any fudge. On top of the counter was the last of the Pina Colada fudge wrapped in different sizes at very good prices. I got 1 scoop of chocolate chip in a dish and they were either perturbed by the $20.00 dollar bill I gave them or the fact that I didn't charge it, either way it was their problem to groan about. Appropriate customer service is lacking, but the products are solid and deliscious. What's a girl to do? I admit it, I love ice cream.
(4)Denise M.
Remember those old-fashioned ice cream parlors with bar stools and black and white checkered tiles? Me either. But if I did experience an old fashioned ice cream parlor in my childhood, I would imagine it would have looked like this place. In the heart of the quaint downtown district of Dunedin, grab a cone at the corner walk-up window. There are so many fun flavors to chose from and each tastes as creamy as the next. CASH IS A MUST! They do not accept credit cards but there is an ATM on site.
(4)Kelly L.
Delish ice cream! Love the almond joy! They are always busy, so it may be a bit of a wait. They only take cash too. It's worth the stop! We always make a trip down to the pier afterward - if it's not summer and we are already melting :)
(5)Jessica S.
I love this place. If they have the carrot cake ice cream you better try it because it is simply awesome. If they are out of carrot cake ice cream don't worry there are plenty of other flavors. I love that all the ice cream is made right down the street at the original location. This is a don't miss stop while out wandering Dunedin. They have an outside window so you don't have to go inside if you know what you want. If you have a dog with you you can get the them a doggy cone or cup so they can cool off from the Florida heat. They now take credit cards at the counter!
(4)Mike M.
With a buy one, get one free coupon it gets 5 stars Family owned Service is great, always see the owner there (think that's the owner, anyways) Often busy but the line moves fast Single scoop Butter pecan in a waffle cone = awesome Don't take credit cards but Ass-To-Mouth machine onsite
(4)Andrew L.
I wanted to like this place, but at the end of the day the ice cream was average and the order taker was in a rush to get us to pick a flavor. I get that you have a line, but be considerate of someone being new to your store. I'd have something better to say if the ice cream would have been something special.
(3)Ekta N.
This is a must stop place when visiting Dunedin. I love that the ice cream parlor adds to the small town feel of Downtown Dunedin. It's especially a great place to visit after a day at the beach! My flavor of choice this time was the Black Jack Cherry and a choice I didn't regret. The chunks of cherry had me digging for more. Note - they only take cash but do have an ATM on site.
(5)Teresa L.
Nice clean place with wonderful smells coming from inside. I was only able to sample the mango gelato while I was there, but it was quite good. Really though, it's good stuff, maynard. That's all you need to know.
(4)Christopher M.
Great ice cream. The "1 scoop" is more than enough for me, it's more like 2 1/2 - 3 scoops. All the flavors I've tried have been great, but my all time favorite is the birthday cake. Would have been 4-stars, but they only accept cash. Which it's a little absurd, it's 2014, not many people carry cash around anymore. And the ATM has a high service charge.
(3)Christopher S.
I have to stay away from this place. I always manage to try a piece of Maple Fudge as it cause flashbacks to my youth in N'awlins! I also get a cup of Pralines n Cream too! Yes, the fudge is good, the variety of ice cream is good, and the old time soda is good as well! I just look at the ice cream cakes and lust from afar! ;-P Yes, I do agree the prices are a bit steep. Yes, it's a cash only biz! But, if the mood presents it's self, I will hit this joint!
(4)Michael C.
I'll restate my Tip. If double scoop, go ahead and plan to get a waffle cone for spill control. I think a single scoop is workable with a cake cone, depending on whether eating inside or outside. Naturally the melt speed is higher outside. I opted for single scoop of very chocolate Rocky Road. It contained marshmallows, but not as nutty as I'd expect. I got a cake cone & as server was scooping, another server brought out a tub of peanut butter fudge ice cream. I said it looked good. Server asked 'you want a scoop of it on top?" Solid upsale. 2 double scoops , 1 single scoop in cake cones, plus one single scoop in cup came to $13 & change. Someday I'll have to try a carrot cake, which is sold by slice or small or large cake. Also be sure to check case because not all specialty flavors are shown on big board. Yesterday kids got Smurf, which wasn't. Also Bacon.
(5)Marc S.
Friendly service, and wide variety of flavors. Someone else posted a review that they only take cash but that must have changed I used a credit card.
(4)Mikey P.
Awesome place! Friendly service and cute atmosphere. The Reese's Peanut Butter Pie is off the hook! Highly recommended, just sayin'! They also have homemade fudge, Key Lime Pie, and several choices of ice cream. Be sure and check this place out if you visit Dunedin!!
(5)Matthew J.
Yummy yummy sauce. That's all you need to know. Just think of any relatively neutral ice cream, put that stuff on it and it's instant magic. I ordered the traditional banana split, which was beautifully constructed, strawberry ice cream with strawberry topping, vanilla ice cream with pineapple topping, and chocolate ice cream with chocolate topping, a split banana, whipped cream, cherry, nuts. It was beautiful. However, I tried my sisters simple ice cream with yummy yummy sauce on it and it just blew it away. The stuff is so good. I just wanted to like order a cup of just that. If I had to take a wild guess, I think just the plain backdrop of a scoop of vanilla to highlight the flavor of the yummy yummy sauce might just be where it's at here. Absolutely fantastic.
(5)Amanda S.
I was traveling and stopped here for dessert. I got a chocolate covered piece of key lime pie. It was so sour. Overwhelmingly sour and sweet at the same time. Not something I would get again
(2)Linda T.
Icecream and refrigerated baked pies and pastries. Even key lime pie (literally) popsicle sticks..just like key west...great place..
(4)Ashton C.
This is where I go whenever I have a sweet tooth. Open the door and all you smell is sugar and waffle cones. This place rounds out my love of the downtown dunedin area. My favorite flavors have been carrot cake and birthday cake. I'm a fan of cake. Waffle cones are fresh. Really friendly service. The only downer is cash only, however; they have an ATM inside (charges 2.25 or something like that) for easy cash access.
(4)Evan D.
Place was packed and I can see why. Ice cream was fantastic. Wife had black rasberry, I had maple walnut, kids had chocolate and birthday cake flavored. All were great.
(5)Jill R.
The smell of fresh waffle cones that makes you want a triple scoop of fresh ice cream. You will not go wrong with the ice cream and if you chose not to have ice cream. Their Key Lime Pie was excellent. The hype of the pie is right on the money. It's worth it.
(5)Tracy G.
Great place in Dunedin with incredible ice cream. My kids and I enjoy going here everyone we are in the area. Pistachio is my favorite and this past weekend I tried their bacon ice cream. Yes, bacon ice cream!! Don't pass this place up if you are in the area!
(4)Patrick L.
On the trip back to our condo, we were seized by the craving for ice cream. Thanks to the Yelp app, we found ourselves in Strachan's and good thing we did! There were a few comments below about the price. Based on the quality of the ice cream and the fact that this is a tourist town, I think the prices are fair. Now on to the good stuff. We wound up ordering the birthday cake, coffee and cookie and peanut butter cookie dough flavors. Each was better than the next. I would highly recommend stopping in. As other reviewers have mentioned this is a cash-only establishment but they do have an ATM on site.
(4)Kate R.
Delicious ice cream, and I loved the risks that they take with some of their flavors (Carrot cake!) The Butterscotch Ice cream was delicious, and the cookies and cream was probably among the best I've ever had. Just be aware, it is cash only.
(5)Catherine Z.
Strachan's is a glowing highlight of downtown Dunedin. Whenever I'm in the area I need to get a cone of this deliciously creamy ice cream at least once (or twice, or three times...) The menu is extensive with old favorites and unique flavors. My personal favorite is the Popcorn flavor - salty and sweet, truly reminiscent of microwaved buttery goodness but without the kernels in your teeth. This is a mom and pop shop with some of the friendliest employees around. Yes this establishment is cash only which may be inconvenient for some, but they make pulling a 20 out of the ATM well worth it! They also have a walk-up window to cater to the dog-wielding patrons of downtown and offer mini cones to the pooches. Adorable.
(5)Sam R.
The ice cream here is worth getting excited over ! Strachan Ice Cream only has 32 calories per serving, has whey protein, gluten free, and has four live active yogurt cultures. There menu is extensive & you are sure to find something pleasing. I ordered a vanilla ice cream shake and it was so good ! It had a smooth, fresh, vanilla flavor. Forget slurping it, I was ready to get a spoon and just start eating it ! I wish this ice cream shop was closer to our hotel. From the Sheraton Hotel it was a good twenty to thirty minute drive. However, the ice cream was well worth the drive ! There shop colors are red, white and black. They do have seats in the store & bar stools for you to enjoy your ice cream. The decor is like something you would have seen in the 1950's.
(4)Gregory B.
This is better than anywhere else. I had chocolate vanilla and coffee, and all three were absolutely perfect. This stuff is better than Haagen Dazs. I love it love it love it. You gotta go.
(5)Marinda H.
Family owned small town awesomeness! Try the yum-yum (caramel) sauce on something chocolate. Wish the cake slices were not as pricy ($6 a slice) because I want that Coconut Cake so bad but can't justify the price. The staff are always super sweet. Definitely a great dessert stop in downtown Dunedin.
(5)Laura W.
I visited Strachan's after going to Honeymoon Island State Park off the causeway. The ice cream at Strachan's was very good and had a "homemade" quality to it. The butter pecan had large pieces of pecan. I ordered it as a hot fudge sunday, based on the Yelper who said they had wonderful sauce. Not sure what he was referring to, as the hot fudge did not taste any better than the kind in the grocery store jars. I make much better at home, so next time I visit I will skip this extra at 75 cents and focus on the ice cream. The price of a scoop of ice cream is fairly high, but I think worth it because the scoops are large. There is some area to eat your treat inside or outside of the restaurant. Note: the restaurant only accepts cash. There is an ATM inside. Note to the management - the restroom on the day I went was not clean. Also, the two folks scooping did not wash their hands between taking money and preparing food. Perhaps this isn't required in Florida, but might it be better to have one prepare the food and one take the money? Thanks!
(4)Melissa M.
I could sit in here all day... Mmm the smell of fresh waffle cones! I had pumpkin ice cream - it was pretty unbelievable. I could tell a ton of actual pumpkin went into it. The spice was perfect, not too overpowering. They also have fudge and pies available, all in handwritten labels. The kids and hubby had butterfinger & peanut butter pie as well as brownies that they said were all top notch. Cash only here so hit the ATM on the way over!
(5)Glenn C.
Quick Review: ++ Service, the old-fashioned feel, the absolutely amazing chocolate dipped cone. + Both Ice Creams in comparison to price = Scoop size, there are coupons, fudge - Prices for ice cream, coupons help, a lot -- Fudge in comparison to price, coupons help Larger but in Some Ways Smaller Review: OK fudge, 3rd best ice cream I have had, 2nd best cone. Had Banana which had a good banana flavor but not enough chunks. The chocolate dipped cone had the perfect texture and flavor. Someone else had pumpkin pie which tasted fine. Someone else had fudge instead which was ok. The service there is nice with people who wait patiently and help, giving samples and recommendations. 5.0 Cone 4.5 service 4.5 Ice cream 3.0 Fudge 3.0 Ice cream price 1.0 Fudge price 3.5 round up as the ice cream matters more and there was good service.
(4)Dena P.
This is a place that you can't seem to just "walk on by" without stopping in. I tried and failed! Dunedin is such a friendly community and really dog friendly. This ice cream place was really hard to resist. I stopped by with my friend Pyra-Danny on yelp while attending their Day of the Dead event this year. It was pretty packed so I knew it had to be good! I can't remember prices but I know they serve some really good stuff. The pumpkin pie ice cream is probably my most favorite and is the best one I've ever had. The flavor is creamy but also light enough to eat without feeling stuffed. The flavor is light and not super sweet but still gives off a great flavor. Yummy stuff!
(5)Lane R.
Ok I've gotten over the price. Actually most other ice cream places seem to charge similar prices and the quality isn't as good. This is the best ice cream, hands down! The chocolate oreo, cookie dough, pb cookie dough.... all some of our favorites. A small sized bowl or cone is quite a generous sized portion.
(5)Amy T.
This place is a favorite for my family! We LOVE getting ice cream there. They always have fresh, delicious options. The carrot cake ice cream is hands down the best thing they have there but it seems to be hit or miss as to whether they have it or not. The birthday cake ice cream is always delicious. Last night we tried the mint oreo ice cream which was amazing as well. Their staff is always nice, pleasant, and willing to help. Will definitely be back again and again!
(5)E L.
Easily the best ice cream in the area. I bring friends here when they're in the area, usually during the summer. Perfect after-beach place. Also they have frozen custard. They make their ice cream there. And their waffle cones are good, though are porous enough that the ice cream will seep through if you don't eat it quickly enough.
(4)TJ M.
Best ice cream ever! So many selections and what a cute little shop! My kids always ask to go back. The cookies and coffee and creamsicle are two of our favorites.
(5)Dane M.
My girl and I recently spent a long Summer holiday in Dunedin and loved the entire downtown area. One special highlight was Strachan Ice Cream, which we became addicted to immediately and frequented way too often across a two week span. It was the perfect follow-up to all the great restaurants in the area and a lovely romantic nightcap if you get a cone to take down to the water at dusk. I've never been a fan of very processed ice cream that gets foamy as it melts or removes that smooth almost buttery taste of real homemade vanilla like my granfather used to make. Strachan Ice Cream keeps that smooth flavor and really does taste homemade. The mix of flavors is great as well and they don't overpower their ice cream with a ton of condiments, they keep the balance with perfectly proportioned cookies, candies and flavors. I loved the cookies and cream the most, it's the best balance of Oreo and creamy vanilla I have ever tasted. My girl loved the popcorn and mint varieties the most, getting a scoop of each in a huge two-scoop cone. Stachan also serves delicious brownies and some other goodies when you're in the mood to change things up. The line out the door on weekend evenings should tell you all you need to know here. It really is worth the wait and worth every penny, the perfect finisher to a lovely night in the Dunedin downtown area.
(5)Ben N.
Look, the ice cream tastes great, here. That is something that one cannot refute. The choice of flavors and the consistency of those flavors is spot on. My only concern is that the milk might have rBST and that I cannot expect consistently friendly service, here. The majority of employees seem to be teen-aged, and there are only a few that know to provide decent customer service. That said, we stop here every once in a while and partake. Don't count the place out, for all of this. Just be prepared for it when you visit.
(4)Arp L.
Love this place - great homemade ice cream and quite a wide variety. Service is usually quite friendly and prompt, even when they're busy. I highly recommend having either the popcorn ice cream or pumpkin ice cream with their special Yummy Yummy sauce.
(5)Jan S.
the lines are out the door, so I figure it must be exceptional. All kinds of hard ice cream flavors. I order a chocolate shake, expecting it to be made with hard ice cream. They make it with soft serve-I could get anywhere. Tastes like vanilla, looks like vanilla with a dash of chocolate. Very disappointing. Better ice cream and ice cream creations and at much more reasonable price without the lines are easy to find. I do not recommend it.
(2)Meaghan H.
Strachan's is ridiculously good. Don't even talk to me while I'm there because I'm very busy trying to spoon out the last drops of ice cream from my cone and it requires concentration ;-] All of the ice cream flavors are excellent, but my absolute favorite is their carrot cake. The cake is flippin' decadent and the icing is rich and satisfying. Anytime I have friends or family from out of town I take them here and anytime I'm in downtown I can't resist stopping. Some people have complained abou the prices, but you know what? Get over it, because there aren't many places as good Strachan's and I'll pay a couple extra dollars for the kickass quality. Great little place!
(5)Michaela K.
Here's my original review: I think this is my only 5 star review so far. Strachan's is the BEST. We visit the Dunedin store at least once a month. Their ice cream is homemade. It is creamy and delicious ... not a thing wrong with it. It is a bit more expensive than other places, but it is soooo worth it. Their chocolate fudge brownie ice cream is the best. It is very rich and loaded with gooey brownies. And I mean LOADED! My cone tonight probably had three huge, fat brownies mixed into the ice cream. My family and I love Strachan's. Here's my updated review: I am giving Strachan's 4 stars because the last three times we've been there they have not had any chocolate fudge brownie ice cream. The girl behind the counter told me it is their most popular item, so I don't understand why they don't make more of it. :(
(4)Scott B.
The chocolate malt is the best shake I've ever had without doubt. I really like the ice cream here too. They are a bit expensive, but I'm willing to pay for quality. they have two locations, Dunedin and Palm Harbor. Dunedin is a nice place, Palm Harbor is kind of a dump, but not too bad. It seemed clean inside. Palm Harbor also seemed to have fewer flavors than Dunedin, but the quality was the same.
(5)Doug B.
Good ice cream! No credit cards...that's a no-no. You will need at least $20 cash. Plan ahead or use the ATM inside so you can pay a $2 surcharge and pay even more for ice cream.
(2)Richard F.
I feel like I died and went to heaven. The ice cream at Strachan's is scrumptious. I filled my waffle come with dark cherry on the bottom, Almond Joy in the middle and peanut butter fudge on top. The $5.00 price is a lot but, to sit and enjoy the creamy, rich and delectable favors made it all worthwhile. It's amazing, you can tell how poplar their ice cream is because when you look around town almost everyone that walks by is eating a cone.
(5)P P.
So good! Portions are big
(5)Angela H.
Last October my husband and I were in Clearwater and stopped by this place. It was very delicious ice cream and you can even get a cup for your dog if they are along for the ride. We are back on town and made another stop today. Again very tasty ice cream. I had the birthday cake flavor this time. I can bet that we will be back again before we leave :)
(4)Eric S.
I must inspect the contents of the items sold here--what magical crack is stirred inside the icy contents? THE LOCATION At first I was suspicious at the crowd gathered outside Stachan's walls. Evening after evening they would assemble as though summoned and conquer all seating places. There's always a line... there's always a big smile on those high-school kids working behind the counter. There's a huge selection of edible items listed on the wall... plus vats of ice cream at the counter... plus items to grab-n-go from the fridges. I'm surrounded! THE PRODUCT I could taste the soul and heart of some human inside my ice cream--literally of course. What crack is this? I saw crack addicts in the faces of all around me--and I was one of them! Now I see why everyone has zombie-love eyes outside. I could see them from my vintage, deli-style counter seat as the old-time décor tried to pull me back.
(4)Noelle T.
If you are ever in Dunedin you must stop by Strachan's (pronounced Strawns.) Seriously the best ice cream I've ever tasted. My husband and I came here once when we were dating and now anytime we dine in Dunedin we just can't help ourselves. I'm usually not an ice cream person at all but this homemade treat is so creamy and delicious and the waffle cones are amazing! Try the chocolate dipped cone with nuts and the coffee and Oreo ice cream. I promise you won't be disappointed. Just remember to bring cash as this is a CASH ONLY store.
(5)Hannah M.
We had heard a lot of great reviews about Strachan before stopping in which gave us high expectations before we even entered. Thankfully, Strachan's ice cream was able to exceed expectations and we enjoyed tasting the many creamy flavors before deciding on our cone. A must for anyone who is within the Main Street area in Dunedin and make sure to grab a coupon in a local booklet, making it an inexpensive treat.

Stachan's makes some pretty delicious ice cream and fudge. No lie. Try the banana brownie or peanut butter fudge. It's definitely a treat if I'm walking down Main Street. They are also generous with sampling. However, in my opinion, all ice cream is just about the same. Half the fun of going to an ice cream shop (for me) is getting to sample the flavors and enjoying walking around the area with a tasty treat. However, I think the grocery store sells ice cream that is just as good, and for less money. My husband and I both got 2 scoops of ice cream in a cup and it cost almost $9. I can buy a gallon for less than that. Also, the no debit/credit card thing is a little aggravating. So few people carry cash these days. So overall, I'm a fan of Stachan's as a treat for myself whenever I'm in Dunedin and am in an ice cream mood.

I was a bit torn about writing this review. I hate to give a place two stars but I really don't think Strachan's deserves anything more. In my opinion ice cream is not a difficult thing to do well. Strachan's does make decent ice cream, however the store itself aggravated me along with the price. My wife and I were in Dunedin and wanted to grab some desert so we stopped in. We both ordered a small waffle cone. As I go to pay I see the see the small sign and the girl behind the counter tells me that they do not accept debit or credit cards. Ok, well I don't carry cash, but don't worry they conveniently have an ATM in the store that you get charged to use. So I walk over to the machine withdraw my $20 get charged $2 by the machine and $2 by my bank and I am realizing this is some expensive ice cream.I proceed to hand the $20 over and find out the total is $10. so these two ice cream cones have now cost us $14. are you F******* kidding me. $14 for two ice creams. Strachan's clean it up. This is robbery. I will not be back. No Ice cream is worth $14.

We discovered this cute little ice cream shop while walking in downtown Dunedin over the weekend. Wow, what AMAZING ice cream! I highly recommend the peanut butter cookie dough. This is seriously the best ice cream ever!

Awesome ice cream! They have a great selection of flavors and it's a nice place to sit outside and enjoy the shade and cool breezes. My hubby and I love it.

The very best desserts, possibly on the face of the earth! Everything I have ever gotten from here has been amazing. I'll list; Peanut butter pie, chocolate chip cheesecake, turtle cheesecake, orange sorbet, cookies and cream ice cream. Seriously, everything is super yummy. I get cavities just thinking of this place!

I usually hate everything and everyone...or I try to. I love everything about Strachan's. I'm shocked, too. The ice cream is incredible and the staff is eerily friendly- but GENUINELY SO. How can I hate this? One time there was even a woman eating ice cream outside with a talking parrot on her shoulder. Now, while Strachan's had nothing to do with this glorious event, it did serve to make my awesome time even more awesome. I love you Strachan's...so much it hurts.

Wonderful ice cream The night I was there they had Cantaloupe and it really tasted like cantaloupe. Just be prepared to wait. The night I was there it took 20 minutes to get my treat. The walk up window for outside seemed to move much faster but I didn't notice until I was already in line.

We tried their chocolate chip ice scoop on a chocolate dipped cone. It was fabulous. Strachan is the only ice cream shop that competes with Bruster's in our opinion and we WILL be back.

Loved it!!! Went here with my cousin at about 2 and there was almost no one else in the store. We both had no idea about what to get and the staff was very friendly offering samples and suggestions. I finally got cookies and cream in a chocolate dipped waffle cone and it was AMAZING!!! You could really tell that they made it in the store. Truly amazing, will defiantly come back!

They brag about their award-winning carrot cake, but the coconut cake is fantastic too. Tasted buttery. I liked that the slices were pre-cut and you choose your own boxed slice from the refrigerator. Pleasant outdoor seating area. A very happy place.

Pretty good ice cream, but kid of expensive. And they only take cash. No one has cash anymore. :/

They have the best carrot cake here, and it is even better in their ice cream. Try the carrot cake ice cream on a waffle cone. It costs about $5, and they only take cash, but it is worth it.

Creamy, delicious ice cream in a cute downtown area. Good value, great when using BOGO coupons!

The guts behind the counter were nice & offered samples if we asked. This is now my ice cream place either location. Besides icecream they have fudge & other frozen treats. they also have doggie icecream.

Oh that sweet smell of baked goods, that old-style diner look... how can you resist? Don't! Located in the heart of Dunedin, this ice cream shop sells ice cream, shakes, small cakes, slushies and more... and does it with the richness of a Trump in Dubai. VALUE-- This can be pricey when compared to chain ice cream stores... but seems appropriate for location and Mom-and-Pop-ish. Like the gang already said... cash (ATM in-store) SERVICE-- The high school-aged employees seem a bit clueless at times in answering questions about their products. Fast service though... ICE CREAM-- Flavors reflecting the seasons are rotated in, like the very pumpkin-y pumpkin ice cream (with the right amount of cinnamon). The shakes are very rich, dense and creamy... If you can't finish the smallest size on your own, here's your chance to find a date to share the rest with (ah- in my case, I could only wish). Magically, the ice cream seemed to taste even better when taken through the quaint Dunedin streets-- nostalgia. Sigh.

How can literally 5 people be working, yet one girl be waiting on 10+ people? And when several customers asked for assistance, they were met with smirks and mumbles. Won't be back.

My husband and I had a craving for some sweets after dinner so we found this wonderful old fashioned soda fountain/ice cream shop. We were greeted by a young girl named Molly with a big smile and friendly grin that made you feel like you just found home. The homemade ice cream and sauces were as good as it gets but they were made even better by the wonderful and friendly service! Hey Owners...don't lose Molly, she's a keeper!

I was hoping to check out this location of Strachan's, however, it happened to be on a day they blocked Main St for an art festival. Parking lots were filled all around the store and I had my dog in the car (gotta be aware of where I can take him =/ ) so we opted to go to the original location instead. Next time. If it's anything like the original I'd hate to give it a lower rating due to something out of its control.
