Customer Service: We were seated quickly with our large group of 15. The waitress was very attentive; refilling our beverages and checking to see if everything was OK. We were a large group and she would not recall who ordered what so she would walk up and down the table shouting "Coke. Coke. Coke" until someone responded and then do the same with the next item. This was not a problem, as we were a large group and she was one person serving 15 at one table and did a fantastic job, we just thought it was humorous. Food: Awesome! It was VERY fresh. My tip: order any of the sandwiches instead of the main dinner. If you don't want the bun, take it off. It is still a large portion for half the price of an entree but with one side. If you want a second side, side items are an addition of $2 and still cheaper than an entree. Everyone was satisfied with their food. Cleanliness: This is a seafood "shack" so do not expect fine linens and silver. However, it appeared clean and inviting.

We were looking for some authentic, fresh seafood in the Clearwater area. Too many places advertize fresh, only to serve food that was shipped in. We asked around at the shops of Dunedin, and a local art gallery owner suggested Sam's for old-Florida-style seafood. It is not a fancy, up-scale place. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, and we were suprised to find that the owner hauls in much of the seafood himself. While on vacation we like to try many new places, but we were so impressed that we visited twice in order to have fresh stone crab legs! The grilled chicken and hamburgers were also good. The clam chowder, cole slaw, and key lime pie are home-made. We highly recommend this place, and we'll surely be back on our next trip to the area!

Wow, Sam's has hit the skids. Had a dinner tonight that was just bad. Ordered grilled Grouper with Moroccan sauce on the side. Dinner arrived with sauce on top. Sent it back. Dinner returned with the same piece of fish rinsed off and put on a clean plate. The fish was still overpowered with cumin. Bad. The house salad, however, was excellent. Sam's is a good candidate for a Gordon Ramsey makeover. The waitresses were arguing among themselves and with the manager. Many dishes were reconfigured at the window or sent back by waitresses. The clientele was well north of 70 and ordered virtually all fried food. After more than a few good meals at Sam's I'm sorry to say I won't be returning.

It's time to try Sam's if you've never been or haven't been lately. The food is great and the service attentive and friendly. Our party of five enjoyed smoked fish spread and fried green tomatoes appetizers, then we feasted on grilled, blackened and fried seafood dinners. The baked beans, grit cakes, hush puppies and slaw were all very tasty. We arrived just before the indoor and outdoor dining areas reached full capacity. There was a continual line of customers waiting to be seated during our dinner, but not for more than 10-12 minutes. There were many servers and all were working hard. The restaurant is not fancy and probably hasn't changed much in the 30 years Sam's has been in business, but there's a reason people like us continue to return every time we visit family in Clearwater.

Thirty four bucks for three stone crab claws. They were fresh and delicious. Hush puppies Were good. I ordered a blackened grouper sandwich. It may have been fresh, but they left a blood vein that ran through the whole filet. Leaving it with a gamey / fishy taste. The kaiser type roll it was served on was a little hard to bite through and consequently the contents squished out of the other side. Disappointing. I sent it back and they were very polite about it, got me a burger that was very good. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is kind of relaxed and laid back. Beers were cold and quick. My wife's meal was great, mine not so much.

It was my night to choose which new restaurant we tried for dinner, and boy, were we disappointed by this place. After reading a few online reviews, we figured it might be a hit or miss situation and we were prepared for the fact it wasn't anything fancy. It is close to home and we like to patronize local businesses whenever we can. We at least expected some great healthy, fresh fish & seafood offerings, which the name implies. Alas, it just wasn't to be had. While the server was really nice, the food was really bland and just not very good. The menu had mostly fried items, and even the sauteed (small bay) scallops were cooked in a thick unhealthy sauce, If we'd taken a few minutes to sit in the parking lot and observe the age of the crowd going into the place (REALLY old with canes, walkers, & wearing jackets when the weather is in the 90's), we'd probably have known what to expect. Yikes! We are sad that we wasted $77 on a mediocre meal. And the owners should probably leave their political signs at home where they belong. We definitely won't be back.

Great place to stop! Fresh seafood, even when fried it had an awesome taste. Has an outside area for those that smoke.
