My grandparents took me here to celebrate my last night in town. My grandpa had been excited about taking me here; his big selling points to me were that a) the proprietors are Greek and b) it has a salad bar. I'm an East Coast city girl used to dining experiences out on the town, but I grew up in the Midwest so while I first didn't understand why he was so excited about a place with a salad bar, I remembered the draw of just a straight-up Family Restaurant with a decked-out salad and soup buffet, and Kally-K's delivers just that. We had a waitress who was just, like, the champ of champs--truly a professional--who smiled even as we all changed our orders around a couple of times and as I paranoidly kept asking about the status of my dietary requests (she made sure all my food was dairy-free, even swapping out my broccoli for a baked potato when she realized the broccoli prep involved butter). Like all good old-school Waitresses with a capital W, she was always a step ahead of our requests--my grandpa, who's been to Kally-K's plenty of times, repeatedly commented on how good of a waitress she was. The food essentially consists standard buffet-style flavor profiles and preparation, but will leave you quite full for a good price. Each of us ate seafood, and the fish was fresh and cooked just right. I had a major mound of salad with all of my favorite trimmings and a piece of broiled Gulf grouper the size of my forearm so the mere quantity of food that I ate alone pleased my grandparents. My grandfather was impressed by the proliferation of clams in his clam chowder; he went back for seconds. We were there on a Friday night and the restaurant was full; the clientele was composed overwhelmingly of senior citizens sharing company. It was my grandmother who leaned over to me and whispered this in my ear, which made me smile.

This place is family/senior citizen friendly and I like it more each year. BTW the salad and soup are terrific. Nothing fancy but good.

I've been to the location in Spring hill before so when I saw this one near where I live now I thought I'd give it a shot. I was worried when I saw the previous reviews, but I have to say I was more than satisfied with my visit. Our server was attentive and helpful. The salad bar offerings were fresh and tasty, although the selection was not as wide as it is at the spring hill location. My husband and I both ordered my old favorite stuffed flounder and weren't disappointed! It was delicious! I'd definitely recommend it to a friend for a low key family dinner.

Have passed this place many times and decided to give it a try. It was early evening on a Sunday and I was in the mood for a wonderful, healthy salad. My friend wanted "real food". He told me they had a salad bar and I would be able to get what I wanted. WRONG! They do offer a "salad bar", but I'm using that term loosely and will explain more later. Let me start with the interior. It was pretty much what I expected...clean, but outdated 70s decor. Flowered upholstery on the booths, Tiffany-style lamps hanging above the tables, and cheap framed flower prints. In other words, if you've ever watched the TV show "Restaurant Impossible", Chef Robert Irvine would have cringed and ordered the interior demolished! But considering everyone in there appeared to be in their 70's - I'm sure this decor feels "homey" and comfortable to them. The "salad bar" is a joke - unless you love nothing more than a bowl of iceberg lettuce, some slaw, a few things to sprinkle on and lots of nasty looking salad dressings. It also includes two soups which were in open containers at the end. Both looked okay, but they appeared to have a film on them and the mere fact they were left open, and the entire area needed to be wiped off and containers freshened - I backed away from this area quickly. The menu seems pretty typical for this type of restaurant also. The usual selection of broiled/fried seafood, some steaks, hamburgers, and a small kid's menu. My companion ordered one of the specials - a Lamb Shank in gravy with mashed potatoes. He said it was "tasty" - but he is also a single guy who likes any hunk of meat. I fell back on a good ole childhood favorite: a hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. The beef was a bit chewy and if it hadn't been covered by what appeared to be a bottled or commercial gravy...it would have been tasteless. Kudos to them for real mashed potatoes though. I drank water, my friend had ice tea which he said tasted "off" and I agreed once I tasted it. It was either old or perhaps even an instant tea. Our check was $26 which included tax. The next time I'm craving a good salad, I'll go to the nearby Sweet Tomatoes or Panera Bread and spend a whole lot less money.

So bad. Waitress insulted where I work. It's definitely filled with older people. I didn't like anything. Note to employees. I know you probably get upset with all the grumpy. Cheap. People in Dunedin .. But smile and be nice to us younger ones.

We haven't been here for close to five years or so. On a Sunday morning, with a near empty parking lot, we ventured in. The restaurant is very clean and welcoming. The menu is large but we remembered that their seafood was rather good. We both ordered the fried seafood platter. We then descended upon their ample salad bar. Since we were the first folks in line, the salad bar was perfect, fresh and delicious. I had the avegolemono soup and then created a gravity defying mound of salad. The platters soon arrived and we both gasped at the amount of food we would be challenged with. Shrimp, scallops, clams and a huge portion of fried whitefish were all very good. The only item that was not as appealing was this shrimp and 'krab' au gratin however there was way too much delicious fried seafood to keep us happy. I believe Bruce was our waiter and he did a fine job. All-in-all, we had a fine meal with good service and at a reasonable price. SCORE! Be warned though, this restaurant does cater to those born prior to 1950!

This is a restaurant you will either love or hate. To my fellow Yelpers: If you plan on coming here for the first time, I STRONGLY suggest going with someone who is a regular. If you go with more than one regular-even better. My family came in one vehicle, and our friends came in another one. We arrived in the parking lot about a minute or two ahead of our friends. We passed numerous packed restaurants on our way, and this parking lot was a ghost town. I didn't get it. The hostess was friendly towards a relative who is in her early 60's when she asked to use the restroom. However, the moment I walked in with my daughters, the hostess starts yelling at me, "Where's your reservation?!! Do you have a reservation?!!" I inform her we do, and our group is assembling outside and we also wish to use the restroom before we're seated. She again raises her voice to me demanding to know how many are in our party. I wasn't sure because I didn't make the reservation. The hostess tells me, "Ok, go! Go use the bathroom and come right back here!!" My daughters and I proceed to look for the women's room and couldn't find it. She points to it and then yells at me once again. "What is the name on your reservation!!" I remind her again I didn't make it. She demands I tell her before I go into the restroom. At this point, I've lost my patience with the way she's talking to me and let the persons who made the reservation deal with her once they arrived inside. Our waitress originally wasn't very friendly and asked our group for drink orders literally before we sat down or shown a menu. Two weren't even there, so we guessed. The margaritas were enjoyed by those who had them, but strangely, they weren't made at the full liquor bar but somewhere else. The beer was nice and cold. Once the waitress recognized the regulars in our party, her demeanor changed and aside from forgetting a few requests, she was mostly great. When I was headed towards the soup and salad bar, I smelled an odor in the middle of the restaurant and stopped. The waitress asked me from another room if I needed something. When I looked over at her, I realized the women's restroom was directly to my left and it smelled like a restroom in need of cleaning. I'd been in the restroom 15-20 minutes earlier, it didn't stink, and the odor seemed to come from the carpet. There might be some plumbing issues. The lettuce for the salad bar was nice and fresh. The soups were tomato orzo and green pea, which may have fit in with the holiday colors, but when you have a hostess like this restaurant does, it is impossible to look down at the green pea soup and not think of The Exorcist. I've been here a handful of times, including when I lived in Dunedin for a short time a decade ago, and while working later on. As far as food: The French Dip is awesome, one regular in our group raves about the beef liver and said she comes to Kally K's just for it. One member of our group doesn't care much for fish in general, and yet she ordered the salmon special and liked it. Another regular liked the pot roast, but I thought it looked gross. The shrimp are large and taste fresh. The crab cakes looked and smelled like the flat frozen breaded chicken patties you see in grocery stores. The prime rib is pretty good, but lacks seasoning and sometimes sinewy. The fried seafood platter is a hit with family, friends, and colleagues. When I've been with my colleagues, the negative is our plates were tossed on the table as if we were not welcome here. The quiet atmosphere has been a plus. I'm not a mind reader, but given the facts: The restaurant was desolate (at one point our group had the place to ourselves, which was kind of fun) on a holiday, and the hostess is the first impression of any restaurant. As we were leaving, the hostess was yelling at someone on the phone, "Do you have a reservation?!!" If this restaurant continues to shun the younger crowd and the non-locals, as they seem to be doing, the parking lot will continue to be empty.

I've lived in Dunedin for over 12 years. Tonight was my first experience at Kally K's. My dad wanted to go out to eat, but a restaurant he wanted to go to was closed early. We debated going to Cafe Alfresco, but I wanted to try the salad bar. The hostess (owner/manager) greeted us at the door. I am curious if the person at the hostess stand is an owner or a manager. The waitress was prompt. I was debating between the fried chicken or the 10 oz. NY strip that was on special. My father ordered the steak and because I haven't eaten a steak in probably 9 months so did I. There was nothing special about it. We both ordered med rare. The steaks were extremely tough and chewy. The strips were unseasoned and tasteless. I was just going to just suffer through it because I've worked off and on in the restaurant business for twenty years. My father really had a hard time cutting his steak. He commented to the waitress three times that our steaks were tough and chewy. She listened, said " I'm sorry" and walked away. At one point while trying to cut through my dad's tough steak his cheap fork completely bent. We had a good laugh. He called the waitress over and showed her his fork. She just laughed. I then asked her to get my father a new fork, before she walked away. My father did tell the waitress that he would eat the steak because he felt like he was taking it out on her. It was obvious we weren't happy. They didn't care. I asked the waitress is the 10 oz . NY strip the same as the other strips. She said yes and that they cut the steaks there. Terrible. I would not recommend this restaurant for one reason. A manager never came to our table. I ate my chewy tasteless NY strip special because I was hungry. Hey, it's just a meal. If I'm serving someone and they aren't happy with their meal I tell my manager. Believe me they would have fixed it. First offer your cu$tomer something else. I would have probably given my steak back before eating the rest of it. If the rest of the food was good I wouldn't have written this review. My dad had enjoyed this restaurant in the past so we would have been back. Maybe I should have ordered the fried chicken. No, we should have just went to Cafe Alfresco instead.

This is a family restaurant that's been in Dunedin for a long time. We had a recent family birthday celebration here and were lucky to be seated in a private room just near the general dining area. The menu is pretty standard for this type of restaurant--a lot of sandwiches and burgers. There are specials every day. The Saturday we were there it was chicken pot pie and those that ordered it enjoyed it. I had broiled Boston Scrod which was accompanied with a rice pilaf--nice seasoning and tasty. Most everyone else ordered burgers, Reubens, and Kally's Dip--a French dip sandwich. There is also a large soup and salad bar and that is included with most entrees. People are encouraged to bring birthday cakes and observe the celebration--which we did. The owner even came in and sang Happy Birthday to my sister-in-law! A special treat! There were nine of us. It was a nice get together and everyone enjoyed the company and the food. It must be popular because there was a table near us of four people playing bridge---obviously they come frequently and feel comfortable there. The wait staff was attentive especially since this was a big group. They even took photos for us! What more could you want?

This was my grandparents' favorite local dinner spot all the time I was growing up. I can remember countless holidays and family events at Kally K's in Dunedin just outside Clearwater. My grandfather and mother always loved the seafood options and my grandmother, father and I enjoyed their salad bar and other meat options. Usually everyone joined in a strawberry daiquiri to commemorate the occasion. As my mom and I go there tonight for the last time, we will enjoy our favorite entrees again and remember those that cannot be with us this trip.

We arrived at Kally K's Restaurant after reading a few other reviews on Yelp. With the mostly glowing reviews, I just had to go! We arrived at 4 pm and decided to order from the early bird special menu. The salad bar is nice and I was excited to see even a greek salad among the selections. Unfortunately, it was less than tasty. Likewise, the meals were mediocre. I had the Salmon and Shrimp dinner, my husband had a steak, and my daugher had a chicken wrap. We were all in agreement. While the food was okay, with so many other restaurants to choose from, we will probably never return to Kally K's.
