What a great place to eat ... in many ways. First, the owner and staff are friendly and work hard to please. Second, the place is immaculate and comfortable. Third, the food was wonderful. As I sat and watched the smiling faces arrive at the door and get greeted by the owner with a handshake and a warm welcome, I thought to myself, I have to come here more often. It's a wonderful family restaurant.

My son and I wanted breakfast so we were traveling down Main St and when we turned around we found this place. So we stopped in. There were only four customers besides us. We were welcomed with a smile and she was on the phone taking an order so she pointed to where we should sit. Our waitress and there was only two there had the sour look on them, they didn't introduce themselves, they didn't have name tags and they just had personalities of a wet mop. The place is clean and the decorations are nice. Keep in mind there were four people and it took them 30 minutes to cook our breakfast. Which wasn't anything spectacular. Not impressed. It's sad because it has the ability to be the star of Main St and Dunedin, like I said we had a hard time finding a breakfast place this was the only one. So, having bad personalities, and taking a long time to cook food will not help this place. I hope that if there following this that they can maybe make some improvements.

I don't like to be negative so I tend to avoid 1-2 star reviews. Mainly because I don't know how to write a 1-2 star review without sounding mean. Lol. Well, I have a check in and I have a picture that I would like to delete from my phone so I should review. Country Boy Family restaurant resides in the little ol town of Dunedin, a couple of miles from Clearwater Beach. On a hungry whim, my husband pulled in to the restaurant. He wasn't very pleased with my choices while in Tampa, so he decided to pick breakfast. Upon walking in, you can tell it's for the Senior and Snowbird crowd. Nothing wrong with that at all. I wasn't very hungry so I just got eggs, ham, and grits. Typical breakfast. The eggs were good, ham was salty. What is up with the grits though?? They don't look like grits and tasted as horrible as they looked. I took a bite and was done. I felt horrible and bloated afterwards. Would I be back? Probably not.

This is not a negative review - however, I feel that if the issue I identified is not addressed it could cause the business to fail and I have always appreciated a 'success story'. I fail to see why 2 stuffed grape leaves and an iceberg lettuce salad consisting of 1 cucumber slice, 1 olive, 1 small tomato wedge, 1 small sliced jalepeno, 1 small scoop of potato salad and some onion slices ($8.99) is deemed 'special'. I had an unsweet tea bringing my total to about $12. The items were not bad. Just not special. I like simple dining, the atmosphere was not the issue, the server was great. I just spent, in my opinion, more than what the value was worth. Can I recommend using a wider variety of greens in the salad. Use more of the accents (tomatoes, olives & cucmbers). Maybe include a couple more stuffed grape leaves. I'm not looking to over-eat, but after the tip I paid $15 to sit in a non-waterfront, strip plaza diner. I was served 2 stuffed grape leaves and a very boring salad. Simply put, redefine 'Special' - it will not go unrecognized. 2 stars means I've experienced better.

Very nice. Good prices. Good service, much better than most. Good coffee with consistent top offs. Very fluffy pancakes (win!). Grits are made with milk (WTF!). So yes on the pancakes and a big no on the grits. Country Boy though is a yes overall.

Nice little place with good food and good prices. I had the gyro and salad lunch and it was very satisfying. The wait staff was very good. No problems with refils and attentive. Me and my family were in for breakfast a few days prior. I had a omelet and it was good. No additives to the egg mix and very tasy. Next time I'm in Dunedin I'll be back! Thank you for a nice time and good food!
(4)Alex R.
Good food, fast service and reasonable prices. The restaurant is very clean. Definitely will be back

Server not feeling well/ having a bad day. We had a table of five and placed order. Wasn't written down - even commented that it would be a good idea with specialty orders at breakfast. Sure enough, three out of five were wrong. This is the second time in three months have had below average service. Going to give it one more shot.

We go to this place every week or two for breakfast. Never been for lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is typical modern diner or family restaurant, i.e., not much. We've always been satisfied with the food. Service is a bit slow at times, and sometimes the waitstaff is less than congenial, but all in all, it's a great place for breakfast. Good corned beef hash, biscuits, gravy, but also healthy veggie omelettes.

I lived in Dunedin for 2 years and passed this place almost everyday and never went in until today. All I can say is my loss! What a great little place this was. The food tasted good and the prices were surprisingly great! The service was amazing. And the food came out fast. What more can you ask for!?
(5)Melissa P.
I had Mediterranean salmon and Greek salad. The fish was awesome! I'm gluten free and I do worry about finding good healthy and tasty food. This place was comfortable, service excellent. Servings are large so I felt ok spending a few extra dollars. Highly recommended!
(4)Kathy J.
I love their desserts. Staff was friendly and the place was clean. Definitely recommend this place for a quick meal.
(4)George S.
Had one of the worst breakfasts I've had in awhile. Skimpy burnt omelette, combined with poor service. won't be back.
(2)Michele C.
Gross. The "soup" was like warm jello. The lamb shank has a red gelatinous mess over it. SLOW service. Terrible.

Visit day/time: weekend lunch Atmosphere: family-owned version of a Shoneys, IHOP, or Perkins Service was very good, food was not. Ordered a cup of Italian Wedding soup and small Greek Salad with Chicken Breast. Soup was decent - salty and a little better than typical canned Italian Wedding Soup. Salad was really small (on a side/bread plate) with a few pieces of chicken and salad dressing tasted like Good Seasoning Italian - not really Greek. Also was totally bummed that it didn't come with a pita - that's kinda standard with a Greek salad in my book. BF ordered the Cheese Steak w/fries - sandwich was decent but a little bland, served with about 10 fries. Thought the prices were $ for the amount of food served - small salad w/chicken was almost $7, sandwich was almost $8.
(2)Teresa L.
Decent food, good prices. Not happy with the service most times. But it's cheap and typical of country style cooking. Worth going just don't expect 5 star experience.

The problem is the service. Not happy, but perhaps that's what i get for eating in dives disguising themselves as good local businesses I try to support. Got the chopped steak for lunch; they had a nice vegetable side of steamed green beans and cauliflower. I asked the waitress for no gravy on the meat. 20+ mins later the food comes out slathered in gravy that looked basically like it was made from flour, a little water, and food coloring. So I told the waitress- I ordered this with no gravy. She acted like it was the first time she'd heard that. She had it re-made and it came out pretty quickly (now that I was 30 mins into lunch) but the veggies were green beans and sliced carrots (which I can't eat)! I asked her. "What happened to my cauliflower?" "We ran out, and once I bring your plate back in there's nothing I can do with it." In other words, it's my fault that I missed out on the cauliflower. This same waitress messed up my order the other day and was neither apologetic nor gung ho to make things right. When I paid, the guy at the register asks me how everything was and I told him all the details. And hes like, "OK." OK That's it. No apology, no offer to make things right. Seriously? Country boy has some decent, simple, very basic food if your server would only listen to what you want. Mine didn't- twice. And management thinks asking the right questions is good enough despite having no intention of making things right when things are wrong. Eeeeccchhh. Lost my business.
(1)Fiona R.
It's an OK breakfast joint. Better than ihop or Denny's simply because it is locally owned. The breakfast is the only decent part though. Lunch is either salty or under seasoned and most things arrive soggy.
(2)Christopher S.
The first time I went to the place was supposedly the last. The atmosphere sucked. There was a loud self-righteous church group making sure everyone could hear their business and the service was terrible. Because one of my faves was closed due to a death, I decided to give this place one more try. I ordered the Meat Scrambler, (Two scrambled eggs with chopped bacon, sausage and ham topped with Cheddar cheese. Served with 2 bacon, 1 sausage Grits or potatoes and toast or 2 pancakes.) regularly $6.99 but today it was $5:99. It was worth it. The hash browns weren't Waffle House dominant but they were fine. The grits were almost perfectly cooked. The server was attentive and timely on everything. A rover made sure the coffeee cups were full. Short and sweet, I will come back and add this place to my backup list. :)

My father in law makes Country Boy Family Restaurant a weekly lunch treat so my husband and I decided to join him one day. While I was apprehensive from the look of the place (and the average age of the customers in the place) the welcoming hostess sat is quickly and made us feel at home. The men ordered different egg platters while I went with a traditional club sandwich. When the food came out (quickly, which we appreciated during the lunch hour) all talking stopped as we concentrated on the food. By the end of the meal, no one had a bite left and we were all talking about how impressed we were by this causal diner. While the place isn't fine dining, its a good choice for a quick and delicious lunch.

My husband and I had a great breakfast at Country Boy yesterday. We had about an hour to kill before church and decided to go to breakfast. We drove by Kelly's to see if there was a wait yet (there was) and then decided to head back up 580 and go elsewhere. I had forgotten about Country Boys until we saw it. No wait. We were seated right away. One of the specials was an Eggs Benny Skillet, which combines my love of eggs benny and skillets so I had to order it. Husband went with the Greek skillet. Both served with a side of toast, 3 eggs, hashbrowns and veggies. A ton of food! My skillet was covered in hollandaise and was very good, but my husbands was the winner with gyro meat. The vegetables were all very fresh. One of my pet peeves is canned veggies at breakfast places. I was pleasantly surprised and will be keeping Country Boy on my short list for Dunedin area breakfast stops.

Seems to cater to senior citizens who seem to think anything that they don't have to cook themselves is wonderful. I had a shrimp basket. The shrimp were very small, but OK. Mashed taters with gravy (the kind that's as yellow as a school bus and obviously from a can or mix). Not a fan. Plenty of other good places to go.
(2)Inga L.
We went for all you can eat ribs on Tuesday night.. Never again!! The ribs they serve were 80% fat and 20% meat. I lost my appetite for the day and ate my veggies only.. I don't know about their other dishes. But as far as their rib special, it was totally disgusting!!

Great food and great service. I was in town to go to Disney and Legoland with my wife and son, and after enduring a week of generally lackluster food and worse service in hotels and at Disney we headed to Tampa to see family. We stopped into country boy despite some of the reviews describing it as geriatric (I'm not at that stage of life just yet). The service was very, very good - pleasant and attentive, quick delivery of hot and fresh food. My son had chocolate pancakes and loved them, I had "gyro and eggs" and loved them. The coffee was good and topped off frequently. The waitress was a young Greek girl who was very pleasant and took very good care of us. I did see some older folks there, and I can understand some of the reviews mentioning the demographics, but my strongest impression was the good food, great service, and very pleasant and attentive waitress.

I will never go back to this restaurant. My daughter and I stopped in for lunch before heading out for an afternoon of art shows and shopping. I ordered a hamburger and potato salad and my daughter got a BLT. The food was bland at best but the worst part was what came 20 minutes after eating! My daughter and I had to forget our plans and head back home so we could stay close to a restroom for the next few hours. NEVER again.

My wife and have eaten at Country Boy for seven years, The service is prompt and they hire people with a smile. Even the bus service people have a smile. This is the kind of place you want to go to "just good ole" good food. You want southern good it is here. You want simple Greek good it is here. I would say that the quality/price is incredible.
(4)Colleen L.
Although I agree with some fellow reviewers that it's very 'geriatric', there's no denying the attentiveness of the staff. The food is good, I only go for breakfast, & usually get a scrambler with French toast. Definitely worth trying if you're looking for a decent meal at a decent price.
