My favorite Colombian place! The staff is great and the service is quick. The prices are reasonable and the food is delish. The portions are not exaggerated, but usually enough to share. Make sure to try the traditional Colombian empanadas!

BEWARE OF EXTRA CHARGES ON YOUR BILL! Tonight was my first time dining at this establishment and unfortunately I was most disappointing. First of all, we were sat with no greeting whatsoever from the 4-person wait staff. A waiter came by after 5 minutes and threw a few menus on the table with no eye contact or greeting. A waitress came by a few minutes later and served us water. She literally threw the cups of water at us, spilling some on the table. I tried to ignore it, but my 8 year old daughter verbalized what I was thinking... "How Rude". A few minutes later she returned with 4 arepas for our table. I wrongly assumed that they either came with our meal, or were a peace offering for their lackluster service thus far. While ordering her dinner, my mother also emphasized that she did not want frijoles with her meal, but rather salad. Both the salad and frijoles came out. She did not eat the frijoles but failed to request that they be taken back. When the check came, she attempted to address both the empanadas and frijoles but they refused to remove them because we ate the empanadas and didnt send back the frijoles. I will take the blame for naively accepting and eating the empanadas, but charging us for the frijoles was just plain wrong. I am assuming all of these tricks are designed to increase the automatic gratuity our waitress added to our bill. I live 2 minutes from this restaurant and was hoping I had found my local Colombian spot. Not so.....

There's not a lot of Colombian restaurants I. South Florida with exception of your typical arepa or perro place. Glad I found this one. The food is very good. We started with an empanada and arepa con queso. The empanada was extremely yummy. My boyfriend got the meat platter which he enjoined and I ordered the mojarra en salsa. If you go here ask for their picante. It's to die for.

The meals here are really good the pescado, pollo ( grilled ), empanadas, ropa vieja etc. The waiters are super cool and when I go I always seem to get the second last table. The chicarron is a must have here, its crunchy, flavorful and i wish they would put 2 on my plate. I know this place is a great eatery I have seen other Colombian restaurant workers eating here!!!

Restaurante Monserrate is a good Colombian restaurant. It is located in an average/dated strip mall, but the restaurant is updated and nice inside. I went on a Friday around 1:00 and the place was full, but there was enough turnover that any party waiting was seated relatively quickly. The waiter was friendly and helpful. Our party was new to the Colombian based menu and some of it was only in Spanish (though the 'mains' had the accompanying translation). Per the waiter's recommendation, we all started with the beef empanada. It had a light corn meal (ish) breading and was good. The salsa on the table helped give it a bit of kick. Our group mostly went with the beef entrees. 4 of us got the brisket. 3 "grilled" and 1 "with sauce". At first glance the grilled brisket looked a bit dry, but it was juicy once you managed to get it cut. I will say the brisket was a bit stringy. tip: cut against the grain. :) I had the "with sauce", which was a tomato and light onion sauce and was very tasty. Still kinda tough to cut, but once it was cut it was good. Overall a nice lunch experience if you find yourself in Doral.

The food was almost semi-decent, I liked the rice and eggs as much as anyone can like rice and eggs.... And then i got the arepa con queso, which was abolutely disgusting. I could have gone to Publix to get microwavable arepas for $3.99 that would have tasted better than these arepas and I would have saved money. The only thing that saved these arepas was thay there was some beans and gravy to dip into. And P.S., if you are not hispanic, expect to be stared at and watched by all of the employees...Sorry that i wanted to try a new restaurant and tried to give you business, there's no need to stare! But I guess I couln't complain. For the nasty arepa con queso and at least edible rice, eggs and sweet plantains, I only had to pay about $9.

Great little restaurant in the Doral area. Small but the food is great, the service is attentive. I am not sure if it is family owned but today I went for lunch with my sister and there was a tiny old lady bringing out our appetizer and she would go around picking up the empty dishes, so that was odd. But overall the food is great although today they ran out of avocado to accompany their Mondongo(beef tripe) soup special. This place can be a competitor to The Mondongo restaurant that is also in the Doral area. Definitely recommend Monserrate for lunch or dinner!

The best thing about this place is the Mondongo soup. I order it at least twice a month. I've tried other plates on the menu and feel they are very much ok. Nevertheless I think this place is pretty consistent.

Adios, Monserrate! I waited over 20 minutes for someone to take my order, while your waitstaff passed by me a number of times. The tables were half empty, as it was after 3:00 PM, well past lunchtime. Your servers even had time to stand by your counter taking short breaks between serving other clients - but they were not interested in serving me. So I left. Such a change from the first time I dined at your restaurant, when the waiter was attentive and friendly. To think I had highly recommended Monserrate to a number of friends after dining on the tasty sancocho. But no more - there are other places in Miami serving delicious sancocho with an attentive waitstaff that wants my business.

OK, I take it back this is not a 5-star restaurant. Not even close. The last few times I have gone, the service has been crappy and after trying few more Colombian restaurants, I came to the realization that this place is pretty bland. It's very unfortunate because I have been coming here for years and it's so close to home. Honestly, the best thing here are their empanadas.

This is the third time I come to this restaurant , every time that I come to this colombian restaurant I ask the waiters for the food to go and they always walk away and the place is not busy and it takes forever for them to take care of you. The point is we are customers as well so we the guests that order to go should be treated with respect and as equal even if we are homosexuals, thank you. (I still gonna enjoy the food some other time)

If you like Colombian food, this is the place. Very taste and really flavory food. The tenders are very nice and are really pending on you. Prices are also good.

3.5 The restaurant is a cute little place tucked away in a shopping complex. Service was ok but the food was very good and very reasonably priced! I had the fried columbian fish and it was great! Crispy, yummy and fresh. I had the baked potatoes and tostones as sides and they did not disappoint! My husband had the steak - it was juicy and tender!! Mmmm. Little tip though do not order the fries or side salad - the fries were soggy and the salad was sad looking and dry. I would definitely recommend this place and we will be definitely going back. :)

Came here with friends who are frequent to this restaurant. I ordered a very common plate called plato paisa but it was regular. Is not the best colombian food I've ever had and is not the worst. It's meh. Service it's also meh and the environment ok. Not much to say about this place since it didn't amuse me neither disappointed me. Not sure if I would come back.

The menu has menu options but food doesn't always taste fresh; rice tastes as leftover and sometimes dishes are very high in salt.

Nice food, had fish a la salsa with rice and patata. Nothing extraordinary but still good. The place is PACKED every lunches with all business people working around, don't bring a date here ;-)

    (3)
  • Carlos R.

Very good service and food; however, they should not assume everyone likes their dishes spicy and at least let you know whether the house dressing/sauce is spicy or not. Also they should give you the sugar for the coffee, not put it in the coffee themselves. Not bad overall, though. They can handle a full house pretty well, even while short staffed and on holiday weekends.

  • Victoria A.

Awful service. It's a shame because the few times I've managed to try their food, it's always been decent. But I can't shake the feeling that they tend to discriminate against non-Spanish speakers. I called last Saturday at 8:45pm (please note: website says they close at 10), the phone was answered in Spanish and I could clearly hear customers dining in the background. I asked if I could place a pick-up order, and was told, "You most certainly cannot, we are closed." And promptly hung up on. What??? Not to mention the times I have eaten here in person, my waiters have been slow, inattentive, and unwilling (but definitely not unable) to speak/understand English. Sorry Monserrate, but your semi-decent food does not compensate for your crappy service and inherent racism.

I had the higado and it was delicious with alot of onions on top. My hubby which is Colombian had the ajiaco and said it was great and prepared to perfection. fast service and affordable prices.

Awesome place to grab some authentic Colombian food. Best in town in my opinion. Friendly staff, good music and great food. Try the empanadas!

This is a very good restaurant!!!, food is great service is warm and friendly, it seems that waiters work every day because I always see the same people but I guess in this case is a positive. Prices are very affordable, the only problem is parking, other than that is a must visit!!

  • Jeff G.

This is my go-to place every Wednesday for lunch. It's right across the street from me, an added bonus. Why Wednesday? Because that's when they do their "Carne en Salsa", a beef stew made primarily with potatoes and yucca. It's so popular they usually run out of it by 1:30 so my co-worker and I make it a point to get there earlier. Another thing to note, it gets very busy for lunch, and tables are packed in tight. Don't let that scare you, it's worth the trouble.

Excellent food. Excellent price. Oustanding service! The bandeja paisa was delicious. Try the sancocho de carne. Their natural juices are amazing!

  • Cindy C.

Terrible service! The food doesn't look fresh at all. You order the next 30 seconds even if you order something you know it takes at least 10 minutes to make it comes right away. They expect you to tip them 18% even though the service was just terrible! Not worth it!

  • Bryan M.

Great Colombian food at good prices. This is more of a lunch spot since it is very casual and more like a cafeteria. The San Cocho is delicious, both beef and hen, also the bandeja paisa is really good. They have pretty good lunch specials that change daily. The only downside is that the place gets so busy that the service is not very good once you get your plate, you will have to wave down the waiter to get more water or a drink but besides that its worth the visit.

  • Jonathan C.

As a Colombian, I know good colombian food. And let me tell you, this place is phenomenal! The food was definitely delicious, and all of the meats are juicy and cooked to perfection! My only gripe is that the servers seem a tiny bit impatient when it comes to finishing your meal. Otherwise the natural fruit juices are delicious and not too sweet, and the bandeja paisa and the Tipica Monserrate are awesome and have generous servings. All in all, a new Colombian place that we will definitely keep in mind for the future.

One of my favorite places to have lunch in Doral. I love Colombian food. I usually start with a colombian empanada, Sancocho de res ( Beef soup), with a side of maduros ( ripe plantains), and last but not least a cortadito. Portions are good, prices are reasonable. The services is awesome. I try to arrive by 1130 to avoid waiting for a table.

Great food and Cheap... They give you a lot of food and the prices are cheap.... The food is home cooking without all those ingridents.. Its basic cooking which I love! Their Green spicey sauce is delicious and really not spicey which is a plus for me...

Went here with a friend for lunch after everyone raved that it was the best Colombian food around. We went at about 11:30 to miss the crowd, the place was empty, we sat down near the window and the waitress brought over a couple of menus for us to peruse. As soon as we opened the menus 4 or 5 baby cockroaches crawled out. Needless to say we left and will not be returning. There is really no coming back from that, I'll stick with Patacon Pisao down the road.

Hands down the best colombian restaurant in the area. Had the traditional dish, the bandeja paisa. Instead of dry ground beef, it was served with steak. The flavors were perfect and best of all is their local hot sauce and mild sauce were amazing! Ive gone to my share of colombian rest here and this is the best one by a mile and a half!

  • Mike U.

Colombian food...Just OK, not the best that I've had. I've had better...But food is fair and still satifying. From what I can remember, the bandeja brought its usual. But the steak was just tasteless and was missing a little seasoning. Maybe a little salt and pepper would just suffice. The chicharron was crispy and the rice and beans were decent with a fried egg on top. Nothing to rave about, nor die to for. The empanadas were good, but better when doused with the house hot sauce. Maybe one day, I'd give it another chance.

Three words Sancocho de Res That is all the Spanish you need to know to come to this place. This stew is a time machine that transports me back to my childhood in Colombia sitting at my grandmothers table. It is a warm hug from the inside telling you everything is going to be ok. It is good enough to make me brave rush hour traffic on 836 unnecessarily all the way from Miami Beach. The rest of the food is on point as well. Including the bandeja paisa, the sobrebarriga and the chuleta caleña. Be forewarned: this sancocho goes fast. There have been plenty of times that I have arrived in the afternoon and it has been gone and my heart has been crushed. Only reason why I knocked off a star. Maybe they will make bigger batches soon. One can only dream. :-)

I have been coming here at least once a week since I first discovered it a month ago. Quick service and the food is amazingly authentic/delicious. Not to mention affordable! I dream of their soups! Don't forget to add the yummy freshly made spice mixes conveniently on your table! One is cilantro, green onions and jalapeños. The other is a delicious homemade red salsa! Loving this place! Can't wait to try more on the menu!

I have been coming to Monserrate as far back as I can remember. I have never had a bad meal. The empanadas are like none other. Absolutely the best! The bandeja paisa is just perfect. Oh and dont' forget to try their arepa con queso. You'll thank me later. In my opinoin this is the best Colombian restaurant in town.

Love this place, the best cheap true picada around Doral (several restaurants arounds, and this one is the best) The bandeja paisa is great too. Empanaditas to start with some refajo is a great meal! (refajo= mix of cola and beer...delicious!)

we have had this on our to go list for a while now. tonite we finally did and we are very happy we did so. it is a very casual place. we started with a beef empanada each. these were served immediately and they were crunchy and warm. topped it off with the sauce they have on the table which was consist of cilantro, onion, peppers, garlic and some other amazing things which made it have a nice spicy kick to it.. not too much heat just right amount. be warned thou we started 1 for each (95 cents each) they are delicious and 1 is not enough so we each got a second one. for dinner, we stayed safe with the delicious and traditional Colombian dish "Bandeja Paisa" which consist of red kidney beans (its served in its own bowl) white rice, a fried egg on top of rice, 2 maduros, a nice piece of pork rin (chicharron) and a plain arepa (with a pat of butter on top) - then you pick the type of beef - it can be ground beef or a nice tender piece of churrasco (cooked to your order) we went with the churrasco. it is a very nice serving portion so go when you are really hungry! it was mouth watering yummy! cost per bandeja: $9.95 (ground beef one is a bit less i believe it is $8.95) i also ordered a slice of avocado on the side ($1.00) i love the way it taste with this dish! it is a nice place and you are sure to walk out with your appetite satisfied. we will be back!

Bandeja Paisa with carne asada was very good. I was disappointed it didn't come with a slice of avocado though. Service was excellent and I liked the casual, lively atmosphere with Colombian music playing.

I've been to this cozy, Colombian place twice now for lunch with business colleagues. Fantastic staff and atmosphere support a very solid offering of traditional Colombian dishes. I've had the ajiaco (chicken stew) and a lentil stew along with the really tasty empanadas. Booth meals were really unique takes on simple "staple" dishes. I look forward to trying the banda de paisa...but will have to brace for the huge meal! I can definitely recommend going here for an excellent meal at a very reasonable price.

If you want your food being cooked around cockroaches, go here! This review is long overdue! My cousin took a few friends from Canada so they could taste how yummy Colombian food is... when the Canadian girl started to stir the soup, guess what? A COCKROACH WAS FLOATING IN HER SOUP! WTF?! My cousin was so afraid to cause a scandal she told the waiter and they quietly took the food away... I really think the health department should go here, we as Colombians living in Doral have been going to Monserrate for years... after this.. NEVER AGAIN. GROSS, DISGUSTING, YUCK. DO NOT GO THERE, unless you enjoy the thought of BICHOS in your food. QUÉ ASCO.

  • Janelle F.

I'm not Colombian so I don't really know what "authentic" Colombian food should taste like-- but Monserrate sure meets my expectations for good cookin'! Nice (but extremely busy) lunch spot in the heart of Doral, Monseratte has some deliciously random menu items that will satisy your appetite. Even if you're craving just white rice with a fried egg on top (like your cuban grandmother might have made for you as a kid)--- they'll always come through. If you work in the Doral area- try to check out this place. It gets pretty full during lunch which is very telling of the quality of food and service you'll get here.

  • Gustavo A. L.

Very good representation of Colombian cuisine, the menu is varied and diverse enough to cover most of the regional foods in Colombia. It is well attended by the community which is a good indication of the quality of the food. We always open with a handful of empanadas - just right for an appetizer, small enough to satisfy a craving and leave you with enough "space" to enjoy the rest of your meal. Definitely go with the more indigenous plates, Sancocho is always a good choice if you are nursing a hang over, it is like mom's chicken soup but on steroids ... much richer and with more flavor and goods. Try the Bandeja Paisa with Carne Asada on a Saturday afternoon so you can follow it up with R and R ... at home or with friends, it is abundant and delicious. The waitstaff is always eager to proudly explain each item in the menu and the translation is pretty accurate as well. So no matter where you hail from -stop by, you will be glad you did.

It's a small place, nothing fancy but food there was really good, I had Mojarra frita, , another guest in my party had Bandeja paisa wich was really good and tasty, the chicharron was perfect, meaty and crusty, the Mondongo was really delicious, and the Chuleta de Cerdo was huge and tasty too. I felt like eating back in Colombia.service was good and fast

As a Colombian, I went in with a very critical mindset. I make a killer Ajiaco at home and would not let anything sub par go unscathed. There are some reviews here about bugs in the soup and poor service... Well let me start off by saying that the restaurant has 78 person capacity and my wife and I were # 74 and 75.. It was nearly full and it was Saturday at nearly 3 pm. The place was very clean and service was prompt. Out order of empanadas was almost too hot, clearly just made and superb. The Hugo de Lulo was a tad weak but very enjoyable. The Ajiaco was the best I've had outside of Colombia and had the right amount of chicken and alcaparras in it. My wife's bandeja Paisa, was good, the chicharron was perfect.. But it did lack a chorizo and the obligatory Morcilla. The prices are incredibly reasonable and really a bargain when you compare it to even fast food. Ajiaco for under 9 bucks including rice... And the Bandeja for under 14 was less of a deal but good hearty meal just the same. Hats off to the cooks there and thanks for a great meal. It made my bigness trip down from Jacksonville well worth it!

I heard the food here was great and all, but when I tried to order over the phone for pick up....it didn't go to well. They continually cut me off and gave me attitude. Rushed me to make my order. I was going to ask for one little thing, some green sauce and they told me they didn't have time for that. I requested for them to write the names on the orders of food since I was ordering over 90 dollars of food and they told me they didn't have time for that. I asked for at least for initials....with attitude, they didn't have time for that. They were rude and snippy with their response. Their customer service is just HORRIBLE. To bad that is was, I really wanted to try their food. They need to fix their customer service, because they lost over 400 customers from my job just because. :(
