After 10pm The hostess told us immediately that their kitchen was closed, but that we could sit at the bar and order food. We appreciated her frankness. Service: From the bartender was fast and friendly. Food: Southwestern chicken sandwich: a grilled, marinated boneless chicken breast, topped with Monterey Jack cheese and bacon, spicy Chipotle mayo, sliced avocado (I got extra), lettuce and tomato on a sesame seed bun (see picture). My sandwich was tasty and the bartender was attentive. Although our experience was good, we will try other places in Destin upon our return visit. However, I recommend this place for a good, solid, tasty meal.

If there's one lesson I truly took away from visiting Hog's Breath, it's don't order the pork legs. Initially, I was intrigued. Being Asian, my mom cooked pork hocks and they were always delicious. The server described the pork legs as really good. Since I ate a big meal earlier and was trying to not over-indulge, I got the two piece appetizer. Well each pork "leg" was smaller than a pork rib and not that tasty. Nothing else came on the plate. Just two tiny pieces of what looked like ribs, for $10. Am glad I didn't pay $15 for three pieces of the damn things. My friend got the wings which were nothing spectacular.

They have a great outside bar. Went on a Monday night & they had great late night happy hour specials ($3 crown and down). Appetizers were also discounted.

I thought this place was really good.... there sauce is a mustard based sauce tho some people might not like it... but they do have one that's not.... had live music and it wasn't to loud to were u couldn't hear other people talk. The inside is pretty big and they seat outside too that's were we ate... the food was really good I got the BBQ pulled pork and my wife got the hogzilla platter... it was a lot of food so they was some for later

This place has amazing ribs and great sauce in house. I loved they way they did their fried pickles because they were cut like French fries and did not have a lot of salt.

Ai was looking for a place to do karaoke, Yelp said this place does karaoke. I called and asked to make sure they did. They never do karaoke. I haven't eaten here before but I would like to put this out there for reference for people looking to do karaoke.

I may just be spoiled to great Texas BBQ, but the food was not good. Maybe the locals like it, but if you're from TX or St. Louis, you may not. The brisket tasted like it was microwaved, and the slow smoked ribs were tough. Ribs shouldn't need a knife to separate the bones, they should fall off the bone. The brisket didn't have the red coloring. Instead, it was gray. We were very disappointed in this place.
(2)Cindy C.
Fried pickles were delish. Our meals were also yummy. The service was a little slow but we noticed they had one server taking care of all the tables.

While vacationing in Destin near the end of our trip we thought we would try a different place that we have never tried before on any of our other visits there. We had a 10% off coupon for Hog's Breath, so after much consideration, we went ahead and went there. We had driven past it many times over the years. We arrived for a late lunch and the place was pretty empty at that time. The front staff were not very friendly. We chose to eat outside on the patio. Our waitress was pretty nice and offered us suggestions about the best choices to order. I already knew I wanted the fried mushrooms, so I got that. They were pretty good. Probably the best thing out of the whole event. Our entrees came out shortly after. My boyfriend and I decided to split the seafood platter and the Hogzilla bbq platter. Neither entree was really that exceptional. The seafood platter was pretty subpar compared to other seafood platters I've had elsewhere. The bbq platter was really disappointing. For a place that is supposed to be known for bbq, it sure wasn't good. We had paid $4.00 extra for the brisket to be added as the waitress suggested. It was terribly dry and tasteless. They offer 3 different bbq sauces on the table to choose from. I didn't much care for any of them. I did however love the plum bbq sauce that goes on another dish. It is not on the table, you have to ask for it. I had seen it on the menu and asked the waitress for a side of it. I'd say that plum bbq sauce and the fried mushrooms were the best options there. My boyfriend was highly disappointed and doesn't want to return again. I would probably go back for the mushrooms. As we were finishing up our time there, a guitarist/singer had set up his equipment on the patio and began his set. We thought his music was fine and all...but he chose all depressing songs. Kind off odd..

Sorry, not good barbeque. The bbq sauces they have were not good at all. Oysters were good and we're quite big. Service was not very good! Not a good experience. Might want to try bbq somewhere else.
(1)Austin W.
After a Dolphin sunset boat ride we came here around 8:00. They had music outside and were not pack like some of the other restaurants. I ordered the house salad with the fried mushroom appetizer.. They were both very very good! My husband ordered the calypso chicken sandwich that was very good too! Prices were very reasonable. Bill being $27 which is the cheapest and also best place we have eating down here yet.
(5)Ashlee J.
I will not eat here again. I'll just get that out of the way. I do no recommend this place at all. We went around 5pm on a Sunday and it wasn't busy at all but our service and food was horrible. I actually had to go get my own drink refilled myself because the waitress was at our table only twice. First to take our order 20 minutes after we were seated and then second to deliver our check. We ordered the chicken strip platter and it was dried out old chicken with burnt fries. Only reason I'm giving it a 2 star instead of one star is because the hush puppies were delicious. Don't eat here.
(2)Ben C.
Good food, excellent service, and budget friendly. Don't forget to go by the souvenir shop.

This is a good place to try if you want to get away from the very expensive tourist trap restaurants in Destin. They don't have the biggest selection on the menu, however they do have some unique items. I have one of those wives that can't decide between two dishes and tries to get me to order one of them so she will be able to try both. Since I had already decided on a burger, I told her no when she suggested I order the Hog Legs. It didn't sound appealing to me. At the last second, I changed my mind and ordered them so she will be able to try them. You know what they say, "Happy wife, happy life". She had a smile from ear to ear. As soon as I ordered them, the waitress said, "that's my favorite dish!" I must say, I don't regret trying the hog legs. The flavor was so good that I didn't even want to share with my wife. She took one anyway. Lol Try the Hog Breath beer. It's good. Your breath will smell like a hog's tho. jk
(4)Dion A.
Simply awesome!!! This is the first place that I ever heard of serving hogs legs. Lol. Anyway everything was excellent. The baked oysters on a half shell, chicken quarters as well as the hog legs. And the service was prompt. Most definitely will be back.
(4)Dolores D.
We sat outside on the porch and were entertained by a young singer/guitarist. It was pleasant. We sat very nicely; it was breezy from an overhead fan and the tables were not crowded. My husband ate barbecue and he said it was good. We ate raw oysters and they were excellent, much better than those we had eaten at a seafood restaurant the other night (Harry T). I had a fried oyster sandwich, and, again, it was much better than those I have eaten in other restaurants in Destin. The waitstaff was terrific. When I got to my table in the corner of the porch, there was an ashtray on it, so I smoked. No problem. We would definitely go back. Try it!!!

The only good thing about this place is their drink prices; and trust me, you'll need a few to swallow their food. Ohh, if you want anything more complicated than a rum and coke you better know how you make it as the bartenders won't. I order "Shrooms" as an appetizer, which according to their menu is "fresh battered wild mushrooms deep fried to a golden crisp". What a joke, they were pulled directly from the freezer to the fryer, and when they served them, half of the batter had already fallen off their so called fresh mushrooms. I was then forced to order their Fettuccine Alfredo as it's the only vegetarian option on their menu, and it came out both cold and floating in grease. I know that I am used to higher quality restaurants living in Las Vegas, but this was so below my expectations that I feel like I owe it to the general public to warn them of how sad the food is here. Ending on a positive note; if you are looking for affordable drinks, and you're not hungry, this will be a place for you!
(1)Mackenzie B.
Food was very bland from the Alfredo to the fish. Horrible service and so slow. Don't waste your time.
(1)Derek H.
Well-established restaurant. I had the smoked turkey sandwich and it was thick cut & flavorful. My wife had their Hamburger and ate half for lunch & half for dinner. She loved it. The service was average. Food excellent. Neat place. Great value.

I took my daughter and her friend, Brooke, here during Spring Break several weeks ago. I had already read the reviews here on Yelp of the place and based on Brian P.'s and Jennifer F.'s reviews, I specifically requested outside seating. It was very nice. We all enjoyed the food and took back to our condo plenty of to-go boxes because the portions were so big. I almost want to bump my rating up to a 5 just because of the Oysters Rockefeller that I ordered. This was the most delicious oyster concoction that I have ever put in my mouth!!! Worth a trip back JUST for these scrumptious babies. However, I bump my score down to a 4 because of the "in my opinion" corny karaoke going on outside. I know this is a personal problem, but the ashtray sitting on the rail behind me presented a HUGE problem for me. I kept looking back at it wishfully because I had quit smoking and the atmosphere here at the Hog's Breath just intensified my craving for a cigarette. I made it through though and we decided to visit the gift shop next door. It was late and we were the last customers shopping in there. After we made our purchases (BTW the cashier was very accomodating and friendly and helpful), as we were leaving I noticed the sign on the door said the shop closed at 9PM and it was 9:15. We had obviously held this cashier up from leaving on time and she had still been nice to us. All-in-all, if presented with another opportunity to go back to the Hog's Breath, I willl grab it and even though I am a person of variety loving to try something different every time and every place... those Oysters Rockefeller WILL be what I order.
(4)Josh T.
I had higher expectations based on their reputation. Food was less than memorable and ther were no draught beers. Service was OK but nothing stood out enough to want to go back. Good company was the only saving grace.
(2)Pepe P.
OK -- may not be the best place for a dinner BUT the bar tenders more than make up for any short comings of the kitchen. Rikki, Hannah and Lauren ROCK. If you want to have a few cold bevvies, check out local scene, chat with some locals, bikers, and/or tourists this is the place. This is the kind of place where a local fisherman may bring in a bunch of fish for the kitchen to cook up and then put them at the bar for all to sample. If I were eating I go for the Hog Leg or the fish toes. The fish dip is also pretty killer (TIP - get it w jalapenos) Beware -- Lauren bites!
(4)Dean C.
Not impressed! Definitely over rated. Got the crab legs..small and barely warm. My corn on the cob was cold when I bit into it...yuk! Hush puppies were tasty, fries were soggy. Atmosphere was average at best and not the cleanest place in town. Spend your time and money some where else!
(1)Bruce B.
Horrible experience. Ordered the hogzilla platter and Mike the manager came out of the kitchen and told me they were out of ribs (the main course of the platter) and asked me if I'd like to substitute anything. I replied with "how about a few buffalo wings?" and he replied "absolutely not". It went dowhill from there and our poor waitress who had only been there a month felt so sympathetic for all the mistakes, bad food and bad attitude coming from the kitchen that I'm assuming she lost her job from trying to give us unapproved concessions. . Manager Mike either needs an extended vacation at a rehab facility or a new career. I wish I could get back the 2 hours and way overpriced bill I paid. Felt like I needed a shower when I got home. Never going back!
(1)Brian D.
Nothing too spectacular about this place. I have been here several times over the last 10 years. I wish they took more pride in their BBQ
(3)Shannon M.
This is a perfectly ok spot. The food is better than Applebees by a pinch. We sat outdoors. Server was odd. Typical beach/family vacation crowd. I'll try somewhere else next time.
(3)R. W.
Fried mushrooms & the spinach artichoke dip were both very flavorful and delicious! The sweet tea was perfection...not overly sweet. The blackened mahi was light and full of flavor without being overly salty. Great place for a mid-afternoon beer and app.
(4)Pj S.
Good brisket sandwich. Burgers are tasty too. Friendly service, nice location, clean restaurant. Prices are fair for being on the main drag in a tourist town.
(4)Lauren P.
Hog's Breath was a pleasant surprise. During the off-season, this was one of the only places open past 9 p.m. on a Friday night. There was no wait and we were lucky to enjoy a quiet table on the patio. Our meal started with a couple of pints of Stella. This is a favorite beer in our house so we were happy to hear it was on draft. Props to the bartender for doing perfect pours on these bad boys. For an appetizer, we shared the peel-n-eat shrimp, which in all honesty were some of the best I've ever had! They were super fresh with just the right amount of seasoning. I also had a small house salad which was fine. The main event was the fried shrimp. Oh goodness these suckers were good. I didn't need the fries...just more shrimp please! Being a couple on a budget, sharing an appetizer and an entree was definitely the way to go. After seeing all the souvenir tee shirts over the years, I had my apprehensions about eating here. Those were all unnecessary. Surely this place gets packed out during the peak season, but this visit made me a fan.
(4)Kate W.
The outdoor patio is one of my favorite places to be in Destin. No matter the weather, it is relaxing to hang out there, watch the TVs or listen to live music. Loved the Hog's Snort cocktail. Food was decent. I had the killer cheese sticks (they really are killer, more of a log formation) and the fettuccine Alfredo. The fettuccine was just ok, the sauce was on the gritty side but one of the hazards of a vegetarian trying to dine in a BBQ joint. Kids loved the grilled cheese and burger almost as much as the souvenir frisbee they got to take home. Other half was bummed they no longer have the crab claws on the menu :( A must visit whenever we are in town.
(4)James E.
I had buffalo popcorn shrimp as an appetizer...well seasoned and really tasty. My daughter had pulled pork nachos that looked wonderful. I had snow crab legs for my main entree, and they were as good as I've ever had. Service was fast and pleasant.
(4)Austin J.
Great BBQ. The brisket is my favorite! Awesome cheese sticks, hamburgers, and chicken. I eat at Hogs Breath atleast once a week!
(5)jason b.
It was a neat place with very good service, but the food was just ok. If you are looking for some memorable BBQ I would keep looking. Not bad, just not great.
(2)Lee P.
My family and I ate there while on vacation in Destin. Classy little place for lunch. Their spinach dip is to die for. Well portioned and value for money totally enjoyed my time there. I enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich. The meat was just right with enough smoky taste to have good flavor but not so much you were stuck with it for hours. The sauces were all good, though I think the hickory was my favorite. Their regular sauce was really good too and the hot was, well... hot.
(4)Amy A.
Kind of meh and double that for the prices. Wanted to like it, wanted to get the ubiquitous t-shirt, but meh. Got dill pickle fries and fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes were good, great remoulade; small portion at 4 medium slices. The pickles were sliced like French fries (yay), but they were the yellowy dill pickles you find in the non-fridge section of the grocery store (meh), so soft. Good dipping sauce - spicy ranch! - but again, small portion relative to price. Portion vs price was a constant theme with the possible exception of the chicken Alfredo my stepdaughter got, which was 5*! Got the ribs (felt like needed to get something off the specialty menu); they were good; firm and had to be cut; solid smoke flavor; definitely improved with some sauce (but for someone with a Memphis raised dad and a Birmingham mom, kinda meh). The porch seemed like it would have been a great place to chill and have some drinks, for sure. The whole restaurant was super clean and everyone was prompt and attentive. No reason *not* to eat here but I would prob just come here for drinks and eat supper elsewhere.
(3)Frank G.
An old favorite in Destin; it's watched other bars and restaurants come and go. They have a nice open air bar in the front which is great for those afternoons in the Spring and Fall when you'd rather not be at work. Their pros are their bar staff, who are the kind of bartenders you wish all bartenders were. They also have great deals on food and beer during football season, with lots of HD TVs and a nice chill environment in which to yell and scream. Their only really problem in my opinion is the noise level during nights with live music. I know it seems everyone likes a place with live music, but you seriously can't hear yourself think in there on a Friday night, or any night where the outside bar has live music. That's right, the musicians playing OUTSIDE are also too loud in my opinion. When the world isn't big enough to contain the sound of your Jimmy Buffet covers, you have a problem. Its' just too damned loud. So go in the late afternoon or on weekends during football season for a good time. Otherwise bring ear plugs.
(3)Jason L.
4 stars for being open late. Its 10pm on a Thursday and they have a significant late night menu. Ordered the Boss Hog BBQ burger and substituted the chedder for Monterey Jack. Great burger and was ready in 10 minutes.
(4)Lisa U.
We went in on a Sunday night. I was surprised that the dining room wasn't even nearly full, though the porch was. The hostess got chatting with me on the way to the table and "forgot" what she was doing, taking us way to the back of the restaurant. This would've been ok, but my boyfriend can't walk very far without pain, so he was losing patience at walking by all the empty tables before she finally seated us. He had a couple of different beers. He prefers dark beers, and said the selection wasn't great -- he ordered a German beer that turned out to be light, then had a Hog's Breath, which wasn't dark but he said was ok. He had a salad, which was nicely presented but "just a salad" according to him. Honey mustard dressing was bland. He had gumbo, which he said "sucked", being way too dark and light on flavor. I had the pulled pork, which came out naked. Apparently the way you get the BBQ flavor is to just pour the sauce over it, instead of cooking it in to seal the flavors. This meant it wasn't that great -- they should cook the sauce in and it would be much better. Service was attentive, but overall, it was ok, not much more. I'd give 2.5 stars to be more accurate.
(3)Adonis P.
Ordered the calamari appetizer and house special half rack of ribs. Both were really good but the sides of coleslaw and beans were out of a can :( Dinner for two with no alcohol cost $42. It's worth a try if Mcguires is too long of a wait :)
(3)Jack T.
Must stop place. Lot's of history. Try the Hog's Breath Beer.
(4)Lindsey L.
Stopped here on a beautiful afternoon, they are not right on the gulf but with the great service, live music, good drinks and food you won't even notice! I tried the fish dip which was a great appetizer!
(4)Lori K.
Me and a group of out-of-towners visited the Hogs Breath Saloon last month while on vacation and loved it! I had the shrimp basket which came with fries, hush-puppies and cole slaw. Good portions and I loved their sweet tea. Others in our group had the burgers and I heard they were good. Awesome atmosphere. If we were there for more than a week we would've liked to have gone back to hear the band(s). We did however go across the parking lot to their huge Hog shop and purchased MANY t-shirts. A must stop if you're ever in Destin. I was bummed that I wouldn't be in Florida long enough to do their annual 5k run. :(
(5)Bryant H.
Not impressed... Service was okay, that is, when the waitress isn't texting behind the bar. The food was a let-down and not worth the wait. The lemonade was good... That's about it.
(1)Jennifer N.
Please order the blackened mahi sandwich. It is amazing. The outside bar area is really fun with live music in the corner. Jesse loves their wings too! We had a large group and they accommodated us well and the service didn't slip at all. Love this place!
(4)Jeffery F.
The Hogzillia plate was all I could handle!!! Very good, we sat outside and the experience was great for us
(5)Carly R.
This place is the bee's knees. I've been to this place about 5 times now but never reviewed it because I assumed I just liked the food because I was drunk. Then I went sober. *Cue clouds opening, sunshine creeping through, while harps gently playing in the background* Destin is a total tourist trap, this isn't something you can easily avoid. "Dinner on a budget" actually worked in our favor at Hog's Breath. I had the brisket sandwich. What. This thing was fucking amazing. It was literally just meat on bread. I didn't even need the BBQ sauce sitting in the table because A. It was seasoned so well, and B. I started making sweet, messy love it it before I could even get the chance to grab the BBQ sauce. My girlfriend ordered a peach daiquiri. I was all like, "Babe.. don't spend 7 dollars on some bitch pussy drink". GOOD FOR HER FOR IGNORING ME, because I took one sip and had the overwhelming urge to dunk my left breast in it. DE-FUCKING-LICIOUS. I'm pretty sure this adult blended beverage could cure depression. For dinner she had a pulled chicken sandwich, she devoured it, telling me it also did not need any bbq sauce because it was seasoned so well. Awesome. She also ordered the seafood gumbo, and claimed it was 1,000,000,000 times better than the gumbo she had at "The Back Porch", which allegedly won "Best Gumbo Ever of All Time by Bull Mess Magazine 2010".. or whatever. Regardless, she loved it.. and that bitch (bless her heart, love her to death) is picky as hell. Also.. being in Destin, drink specials are SO HARD TO COME BY. Not here. Just fucking ask! We went on Saturday, and although it wasn't listed anywhere, I simply asked, "Got any beer specials?".. and they were having bud light 16 oz drafts for 2 bucks. That's not bad at ALL compared to the 4.50 I paid elsewhere. I don't even like Bud Light, but 2 bucks for an alcoholic beverage? YES, MA'AM. Overall... This place is rules.
(5)Jay J.
I was traveling for work and stopped in here because it was across the street from my hotel. Really good bar food and great service. I told the bartender I was only in town fora few days and she gave me a list of things to do and the low down on Destin. Bottom line: great place for a meal and a few beers.
(4)Edward V.
Stopped in here because my mother always told me this was her favorite place to go in Destin. It's fun, has good food, and creative drinks.
(4)CAROL L.
Tried this place for lunch. Was not impressed with the food. Just one of those places that looks interesting from the street. Nothing about Hog's Breath Saloon that makes me want to come back.
(3)Mike S.
Service was great, but the food was just average. I would never call this place a BBQ spot at all. The BBQ sauce was not anything special, okay at best. Would not go back if I had somewhere else to try.
(2)Bonnie J.
Really enjoyed the beef brisket and beans. Love the BBQ sauce on the table, the darker one is my favorite! The kitchen was very slow getting the food out but I think they were unprepared for spring break. The servers were very patient and friendly.
(4)Larry E.
Dined out on the deck where a musician was playing. The Brunswick stew is very good. Also had a beef brisket sandwich. Their brisket is excellent. Very enjoyable experience.
(4)barah g.
Classic t-shirts but horrible food! Most was cooked hours before we got here and reheated! Obvious by temp but by the fact that it came out about 5 minutes after we ordered! Buy the BBQ sauce and cook with it at home! Staff was sweet though.
(1)Sue T.
My husband has always wanted to try Hogs Breath every time we're in Destin, so today we did. Went there for dinner,he had the brisket dinner, I was skeptical so I just had a turkey club. That this restaurant is in the category "barbecue" is puzzling. The brisket was thinly sliced pot roast and nothing more, no smoked flavor what so ever. While my sandwich was piled high with turkey, it was dry and again just plain ole turkey nothing smoked about it. We love barbecue but folks this ain't it.
(1)Sarah S.
Went here with my husband while on vacation. Our server was fantastic! The ribs were really really good. I do have to say their sauces are a little lacking. However other than that, fun atmosphere, great service, and hilarious selection of t-shirts!
(4)Brian P.
Outdoor seating is great! Good beach drinks. Good poor boy sandwiches.
