They always have the best bands here. Good food . Excellent service. I love the cool vibe of this place and the unpretentious crowd. It has the cool five bar feel and food is decent for a bar

Went in Thursday night for a few drinks. Didn't partake in the food. I can say the service was good, beer was fresh, live entertainment was entertaining and it was honestly the only place on Atlantic Ave that had patrons my only filling the place but overflowing onto the sidewalk/street. I'll probably go back.

Fun, Fun , Fun!! Great outdoor setting on the corner of Atlantic Ave. in bustling Delray Beach. Food is bar food but the serve healthy drinks and the live music and scenery is top notch!!!

a great fun night, if you looking for a down to earth, not fancy, easy going bar!! attracts alot of morotcyclists, great bands, great female bartenders. just ..ok...food. but youre not really there for that. The male bartender Cutty...is a story in itself. trust me if you go there, youll experience or have some altercation with him. does he add to the ambiance? jury is still out on that one. but great place for a few drinks and a little dance after 9 on fri, sats & sundays. music travels out to the sidewalk, so always a crowd there.

Was here with my son Friday, Aug 14th. Highway Run was the name of the band. We both had Pain Killers to drink ( very good, on the sweet side *they forgot the nutmeg in ours). We shared Conch Fritters which were shaped like balls, had creamy consistency like a good crab cake (delicious but spicy) & a Classic Burger with Johnnie fries and a side of the "soon to be famous baked beans". Burger was fantastic and huge... great for sharing.. they even cut it in half for us. The fries were average but those beans really were AMAZING. Our waitress did a fantastic job. Food and drinks came in a timely manner. The band played 80's cover music and did a good job of it. In addition to that show we also got to watch "wild cougars on the hunt". Shake it grannies!!

Good music, friendly staff, heavy pour for drinks, outdoor restaurant. Had the Mahi sandwich. It was good. Gets busy at night with live music and it's always a good time.

A little touristy but fun. Live music, drinks, and friendly service. Open air dining and very lively atmosphere. The nachos were good, but the chicken satay was not. Guess the food is hit or miss.

Great food and fantastic service! All the servers are friendly and knowledgeable. Their wings are some of the best in Delray. Their parrot fries are DELICIOUS. I highly recommend them!

An hour long wait for food, a server who completely disappeared, 5/6 meals being sent back, a manager who threatened to call the police because we did not want to give a tip, and a bartender who called a member of our party a "f***ing b****". WHAT?! What kind of business are you running? This was not an isolated incident, either. I have been to the bar a few times at night and have seen bartenders berate customers for no apparent reason and flat out ignore anyone under 30 trying to get a drink. Mediocre food accompanied by the most horrific, offensive staff I have ever seen in my life. I am not usually one to complain about service, but this was absolutely beyond. We will never, ever return.

  • Shaina F.

Absolutely love this place, somehow we always end up here no matter where we begin in Delray. Most likely due to the 1/2 price shots when the train goes by, including the SHOTSKI!! (4 shots on a ski so 4 people can take them at once - buyer's shot is free so it's a 4 for 3 deal). And obviously the live music is always a hit, they get great bands! It usually gets a good, fun crowd on nice nights with the live music. I usually come here after dinner since they play music pretty late, but I've been a few times for dinner. It's your typical bar food but everything is really good, and they definitely cater to food allergies and things like that. All the way staff is very friendly! As always, I will be returning without a doubt. We had such an amazing time the other night!

The veggie burger is bangin' :) AND it's vegan (I had to ask). I can't believe I've never stopped in here. My girl's and I took a ride and remembered that there's motorcycle parking so naturally we stopped in for foods too. Definitely a good choice. It took a while for our food to come out (but that might have been because we were starving). My friend ordered the grilled cheese, which is the only thing I've ever seen her order and she had to send it back bc she didn't know that it came with Swiss cheese and our waitress wasn't too happy but it was nbd (to me at least). I was pleasently surprised with the atmosphere, food and service. I'll definitely be back. Score on the bike parking too!

Wings and spinach dip are great. It's a simple place with a simple menu. new hy atmosphere with live music every night. Don't expect much. Most people are there for the music. Also you get a free shot every time a train passes

Unbelievably rude bar maid gave her young friends more beer and when I asked for one she told me she was closed, it was early and I had only had one beer it was really weird. I don't quite know why she thinks who she is, but i left her no tip, and I never do that. It's hard to explain it was just really, really bad Karma. Plenty of places to patronize in the area, way more customer service oriented. She inspired me to write this review so I thank her for the inspiration.

The place can get pretty cramped and the service leaves a lot to be desired. Food takes forever to come out and the salad was drowning in dressing (which I asked for on the side). Our waiter was an older man who checked my ID by taking it into the bathroom for 6 minutes and would not let us move to an empty table when we complained that the AC above us was dripping on us and the table. We are often ignored when we first walk in and find our way to a table by ourselves. Great live music, especially The Flyers every Wednesday night. Best coconut shrimp I've ever had! Nice drink specials, especially when the train goes by less that 10 feet away. But get your staff an attitude adjustment and some basic manners, Johnny Brown's!

We just had lunch here. The food definitely get 4 stars, but the service gets a 2. Our waitress didn't quite get our order right and it took 30 min to make a salad and a burger. When we couldn't find any waitstaff to ask about the status of our order, my husband went up to the bartender, since she was the only staff we could find. She went immediately on the defense, was rude and completely unhelpful. My husband was "this close" to chewing her out and leaving on the spot. He came back to the table fuming. Luckily, our food came out right after from the manager, Bruce. He was very nice and apologized, then said he would talk to the bar tender. After Bruce had words with the bartender, she then proceeded to yell across the restaurant in yet another snooty voice, "We good Justin?". Deciding not to cause a scene, Justin just said, "Yeah, I guess". Overall, the organization and execution was poor, but the food good. Being in the service industry, I know there are some off days...maybe we caught them on one. But my husband might feel differently. Ill definitely be trying them again to see if it improves!

Live music! Always on most evenings! Patrons and employees of Johnnie's are always friendly! Parking is usually easy to get behind Johnnie's if you intend to only dine and socialize here. While this is an open air bar and restaurant, it is very clean! The employees are always around to clean up after any mess left behind. The only complaint is there are usually people coming in from the sidewalk to just sit and listen to the music, leaving the paying customers no where to sit, not even a stool! But you gotta love Johnnie's for their awesome live musicians that can play most covers spot on!

This is a great place to come relax and enjoy a creative drink menu as well as excellent food. The vibe is beachy without being cheesy. This used to be a gas station and the driveway is a cozy fenced in open outside seating area. The carport is covered but open on the sides with tables and lots of fans if you don't want to be under direct sun. They also have must spraying from the ceiling in the front so no worries of overheating even on the hottest day. The bathrooms are the only thing that could use some work. They keep true with the theme by smelling like a beach/Park bathroom :( everything else was perfect so it won't stop me from coming back many times. Very breezy set up as the I have been here twice and received exceptional service both times. There are not to many places that serve an Old Fashioned, properly garnished with muddled cherries and oranges. I got the veggie burger and it was delicious! Every drink was amazing as well. It's like being on vacation here. Highly recommend!

I honestly never expect much when eating here, but every time I find myself saying, "holy crap, this _____ is SO good!" Had a in-law dinner here last weekend. My other half and I shared the ribs, snapper special, and fish dip. All incredible! The ribs so much so that we had to order a second full rack to accommodate everyone at our table wanting to nosh on them. Order them spicy.. it is just a hint of spice and gives the ribs a great flavor profile! Also, to my delight, their old fashions are delicious! Not too sweet and the taste was nice and balanced. Service can be a little slow, but who really cares if you can watch an Elvis impersonator while you wait? Johnnie Brown's is a lively spot that makes you leave any sort of pretentiousness at the door. I definitely recommend it for great food, drinks, and live entertainment.

There's a performer I've seen here the few times I'm in the area. Not sure what his name is or the band but we refer to him affectionately as Drunken Rod Stewart. Hysterical and talented. Arguably the best show in America... Great singer and hysterical banter in between. Come see what I mean. Very hard to explain as there's not much like it done well.

Been going to this place for drinks and live music since it was Elwood's. Fun place to get your drink on and relax with the scene. Grab a seat at the bar and take in the low key vibe of this sanctuary on Atlantic Ave. away from the hipsters and me-so-chic crowd.

Been here three times this week Each one different from the other. If you're looking for fine dining and good service better try somewhere else this is not Le Bernadin ... However the food keeps getting better and better.... The crusty old bartender needs to start smiling and offering better service. Is about as friendly as a ferret down my pants! I could say the same for the service table side ! Look its South Florida and spring break They don't have a choice of great waiters. I will add that I was sitting outside and it takes time for them to even notice you...twice people said somebody will come And take your order ... The lamb sliders were great. Then It took the waitress a half hour to give me a check and then she never came back to pick up the money or Credit card. Oh well the band was great and I had fun I guess I need to check my attitude at the door. I went back next day for lunch and the blackened chicken salad was awesome so was my service. I tried going back tonight I sat outside at a table no hostess no server no good ,,? I left That being said I will still always give it a chance because it's a fun place , live music and it's no attitude like all the new restaurants in Delray !

    (3)
  • Julissa M.

When i first walked up, I waited about 5 minutes for the hostess to greet us. There were no employees anywhere, its like they were all hiding. Then I got a drink called the Delray Breeze. It was horrible. It was wayyy too sweet. I got the Cheese Lover Burger. It was ok but I waited over 30 minutes to get it. Pretty bad service for a Monday night. I didn't like the crowd either. It was filled with a bunch of drunk old people.

Pretty good food- typical bar food. I was a little disappointed they did not have seafood- just conch fritters. Service not bad. Great location and ambiance.

Johnnie Brown's is part of a host of bar/lounges off of Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. Some are more trendy than others. This is more of a divey/sports pub type place, but they have bands that play there as well. The J.B. takes advantage of the great South Florida weather with it's open air design. You can sit just about anywhere in the place and watch the car and foot traffic roll by. The food was decent for pub grub and my service person was super friendly. Such a nice departure from what I normally find in my local parts of Miami.

  • Crystal P.

Cool laid back loud atmosphere. Live music. The bands they have are always super talented. Older crowd. I had a floridian beer. Funky Buddha. Was very good. We ordered coconut shrimp to start. Served fast after ordering. I ordered the Old Smokey burger. They put a lot of bacon on it. It had onion straws in it too but you couldnt really taste it. The fries were not good. Quite boring. I rarely leave fries behind and this was one of those times. Thats serious. They had a pickle on the plate but it was more like a slightly vinegered cucumber. Not fully pickled yet. My friend ordered the cobb chicken salad and my other friend ordered pulled pork sandwich. The bbq sauce was good. The train went by and when that happens you get half off shots! I think yeggermeister was ordered. It was called Surfer something. Good food good place. I'd recommend it.

  • Melissa L.

Elvis is awful- please replace this lip synching idiot. While you're at it- the big guy behind the bar name is a dick... Extremely rude to customers. There's another bartender, Rosie, who comps all her friends in front of other patrons all the while pocketing your money. Hope the owners read this. P.s-The food is great and everyone else is really nice.

Ducked in for a cold pop during the Delray Beach St. Patrick's Day Parade and was I glad I did! Here's why: * I found a cold spot out of the sun, SCORE! * Roomy, cool layout, multiple rooms and a back patio * Multi-generational hottie crowd having big fun and a NEW FAVORITE in white shorts * Beers on ice in every corner-convenience rocks! * Fairly priced * Cougars throwin' 'bos - SNAP INTO A SLIM JIM! Oh yeah, good stuff! Slainte!

Gina, our bartender, was spectacular! So friendly and makes a good drink. The food was very yummy. Definitely get the crab and jalapeño dip. It was AMAZING! The XXX burger was way spicy. While normally I would love that, today for some reason with the alcohol already in me I couldn't finish it. But I would recommend it for those that love a nice kick of hot. Overall it was a great visit. And when the train passes it's half price shots! So I was done lol but go to Gina and you'll love your experience!

Johnnie Brown's... I really wanted to give you at least 3 stars but, your Dark & Stormy is not that good, and, what I can't forgive, your server is being lazy, sitting down, talking to another server. When we sit down, with our drinks, she tells us, in a not so friendly way, that unless we order food we needed to move. I think what she meant, but failed to say was, "may I get you a menu?". At all this, place is not full and no wait line. Yes, we moved from the table, and server goes back to sitting down and chatting with her coworker, and we are left with a disappointing experience. Two stars for at least offering Dark & Stormy drinks (you can't find them at every bar, so I always appreciate those who do), for the nice bartender, and for having a live band. Thank you for that. P.S. After half hour of us being outside, listening to the band, "our" table was never filled and server was still chatting away.

My brother and I were in Delray Beach-it was late in the afternoon and we stopped for lunch. The waitress [Gabby] was very accommodating and I got a half rack of ribs and my brother got a burger. I would return and recommend. it is in a busy area of Delray surrounded by other restaurants and bars.

I've been to Johnnie Brown's 20+ times now, mostly just for beer and music. Today's experience was poor enough to update my review. My husband and I stopped in for lunch. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, our server did not give one rat's ass about us. We sat ourselves when we first arrived, and watched as four other tables were asked to place orders before us even though our server had given us our menus first, and rightly so. We knew what we wanted to order, and had our menus placed down on the table, but we were just ignored and ignored and ignored and ignored. Then, 46 minutes after we placed our order, our food arrived. This is not acceptable. When we DID receive our food, my husband's was incorrect, and the food we each received was not as expected. The blue slaw was room temperature, not cold. I ordered a new item on the menu -- Ceviche -- but what I received was a huge plate of chips and a little cup of ceviche. This item should be renamed, Tortilla Chips w/Ceviche. For $9.99, I felt ripped off. The way our server handled my husband's incorrect order was lackadaisical. She really didn't care. We tipped $1 to my dismay (that was my husband's influence -- I wanted to leave nothing). We wasted our money here, and then headed down the street and ordered lunch #2 at the new El Camino Mexican restaurant (good service and food, both; see my review!). Stick to Johnnie Brown's for beer and music. They do that well.

3 and a half stars. Popped in for a quick lunch and beer during our stay in delray. Food was just fine, nothing out of this world. I had a fried chicken sandwich and my wife had a mahi sandwich. They had a couple hard to find local brews which was nice. We walked by later at night and this place was JAMMIN with a live classic rock band. Grab a drink at night, watch some awesome cougar dancing, and keep moving to the next bar.

This place is pretty good. I had the grilled Mahi Mahi sandwich and my husband had the fried chicken sandwich. The Mahi Mahi was kinda small but enough. The crispy chicken sandwich was good, it had bacon and melted cheese on it.

Have had a couple of meals here in the last few years, and enjoyed all of them, without question. This occasion was with a buddy of mine just before the "Old School Brewfest" just west of the restaurant, in the hopes of staving off the beer's effects with a big meal before hand. This, coupled with a milkshake from Steak N' Shake definitely saved my ass; my buddy, not so much ....... check out my review of Luigi's to get that story. I had a delicious dolphin sandwich that I ate in about 4 minutes because I had to chew before swallowing. We were in and out in less than half an hour, and the bill for us both was barely $20. On previous visits, I've had the wings and the grouper, and everything was fresh and flavorful. Great place.

Casual, open air, great staff. Hamburgers are AMAZING. Fries are awesome too. Not soggy. I just cannot say enough good about this place. We went for lunch on a Saturday - they were not too slow and not too fast. Very relaxed atmosphere and great food. Awesome place to get a beer and a burger and people watch on the Avenue. Then you can walk it off and go back for more!

HAPPY HOUR ONLY. The chicken tenders were obviously frozen and then fried (or maybe just microwaved). The greek salad was blah. My buddy ordered a chicken sandwich and was also disappointed. With two beers each of our bills were over $30. Not a lot of money by Delray standards but in most cities you can find great food for lunch under $30. A few side notes - 1) its March Madness, have basketball on.. not Family Guy. 2) don't charge for a tiny plastic container of blue cheese dressing.. that's just lame. Since I moved here in November 2013 I've been searching for great bar food. The kind of food that I was accustomed to in my previous cities. Unfortunately, it seems that Delray and Boca are not being held to high enough expectations. The bar food here is more expensive and less desirable than anywhere else I have been. (With the exception of Grangers, that place is amazing). The people that live here need to hold this city to higher standards.. It is simply not very good.

Another great spot in Delray Beach. Just across the tracks from Bru's Room. A divey kind of place as well with live bands, tvs everywhere, an an outdoor patio perfect for people watching. Food is decent. Nice drink specials. Staff is fairly friendly.

Ok what can you say. The place is simply awesome. Good kitchen and super friendly bartenders in Santi and Kayla and a Rod Stewart cover band/dude on Tuesdays! Cool breeze and a fish dip and cold beer, yeah man thats Delray at its coolest and just hang out with no pretentious Atlantic Ave bs.

Johnnie Brown's feels like a tourist bar to me. I've been here a couple times and didn't think much of it, but the most recent visit was when a friend from out of town was visiting and we were hungry. Big mistake. It was just not good. It's as simple as that. The service was perfectly fine though. I had the meatballs, recommended by the waitress, and they were only mediocre. My friend had the wings. Also mediocre. I'm used to loud bars in Delray, but this one took the cake. I don't plan on going back. There are too many great options along Atlantic.

It's girls night out and Johnnie Browns was one of our stops for a "Dark and Stormy", our drink of the night. Let me just tell you now that we were so disappointed with Johnnie Browns. We ordered our drinks at the bar and decided to sit at one of the tables to listen to the band play. Most of the tables were empty and there was no hostess so we just chose one away from the band kinda near the back. First problem was they made the drink way too strong so they didn't taste the way they should. The second problem began once we were at our table. A server came to us and in a really rude way told us we can't sit at a table unless we order food. Need we point out that the place was not that busy because it's a rainy night and you have a live band and most the tables are empty; at least let us have drinks there; it's better than leaving the table empty and you'd still make tip money. Ironically she never even offered us a menu. Coincidently one of the pictures posted on Yelp is of the stage area and it shows the band playing with ALL the tables in front of them empty. Look at the people that want to watch but have to sit away from the stage. yelp.com/biz_photos/john… So we were forced to move and once we did get up then we noticed "Miss Not-So-Friendly" sat her lazy butt down with another server and just sat there chatting up a storm for awhile. My friends and I were really disappointment about what happen, so we went outside and were ready to leave but they only good thing about the place (the band) was about to play again so we decided to sit outside and listen to them some more. Before leaving we did noticed that out server was still chit-chatting with the other co-worker and most the tables were still empty (including ours). In afterthought, we should have complained to a manager but honestly, if the server is sitting on her butt for so much of her time then there is no way a manager doesn't know already. I don't think I would give them another chance. To the management: Next time you hire a server, try and hire one that is nice and motivated rather than rude and lazy.

Great food, Great atmosphere and great service. LOVE their Veggie burger and Bleu Cheese Cole Slaw! They have bands there every night of the week. It's a great place if you're in the mood for yummy food and musical entertainment. Not to mention it's on Delray's Atlantic Ave which has a lot of entertainment and things to do when you're done.

In an area with a lot more upscale dining this was a fun restaurant/bar with a dive bar feel. We stopped in lunch. The wait staff was great. I am continually on the hunt for great veggie burgers. The waitress highly recommended their homemade one. It was delicious and came piled high with assorted fresh veggies, almost like a salad topping. My husband had a burger with bacon and bar-b-que sauce on it and said it was very good too. For a very casual meal and open air dining this was a fun find.

Johnnie Brown's is truly something special in Delray and sets itself apart from the other restaurants & bars along Atlantic Ave. The food is very good, the customer service is AMAZING and we were there when they had a band playing (The Flyers) which knocked our experience at Johnnie Brown's out of the park. Simply awesome! I was a little confused as to why a place billing itself as a Caribbean restaurant/bar would have sports on the televisions rather than Caribbean videos/earthcams.

On the fence about this place. Live music in general is fun and engaging, but they could have done better. The mozzarella sticks are BOMB. The frozen mango marg was very mango-y, which is not a complaint (it was delicious!), but a little more tequila wouldn't hurt it. I would highly recommend the Dirty Monkey - super sweet and amazing. Service was slightly below average, though it was a really busy night on a holiday. Did I mention the mozzarella sticks are awesome? Because they are. Overall, not a bad place for a few drinks and some food, but this wasn't the main stop of the night... and probably shouldn't be.

I came to Johnnie Brown's on a weekday afternoon for lunch. Maybe the weekday crew is comprised the b-list employees, but the service wasn't that great though the food was pretty good (not stellar). We were seated promptly and I really enjoyed the look of the place. We placed our orders quickly and they were brought out pretty fast, too... but there was something wrong with nearly all of our orders! Onions on a burger that was asked for without, the wrong salad dressing for the salad, and I never got the lemon I asked for with my water. Overall, the food was good but I don't see what all the hype is about. Maybe I need to come at night!

I have no idea about the drinks or food. But on Wednesdays there is a band that always plays there and i promise you the one guy is one of the most talented musicians i have ever seen. I have 0 idea how this guy isnt signed to a record label. he can play any instrument and absolutely murder it. if your in the area on Wednesday walk by and stand outside and check this guy out for some really amazing music and entertainment. ITS FREE!

One of my favorite spots on the strip in downtown Delray Beach. Shady open air space with a hony tonk diner vibe and plenty of fans and misters. Typical American bar food...burgers, BBQ etc, and live music at night. Free motorcycle parking right in front.

This is a place to go for ribs and music. The music was great. My friend had some fabulous ribs, and although I am not a rib fan, the one I had was super. His sides were so-so. Being a southerner who never gets cornbread in NJ or NY, I scarfed down his jalapeno cornbread. It was gummy, but it was cornbread. I asked for a Cobb Salad without the chicken and the watier gave me an attitude about it. He told me that I couldn't have it that way and that I needed some protein. I think this establishment is lucky to have waiters that are also nutritionists as well. Anyway, I got the Caesar salad with blackened shrimp. There was enough shrimp on it that I felt satisfied with the amount of protein the waiter wanted me to have. Remember--this is a place for ribs and music. Very casual and very fun.

Johnnie Brown's just reminds me of Guy Fieri. I was half expecting him to pull up in his car screaming, "THIS IS OFF THE HOOK!" Much to my enjoyment, he did not show up. This place is sandwiched by a lot of upscale shops and restaurants, but you would swear it was right in the middle of Duval Street in Key West. It's an open style dive bar, with some really good food, and decent drinks. As you will find all over Southern FL, you have the typical drinks (rum runners, crazy mixed drinks with lots of blue curacao, etc.), and the food is dive bar-y, but in a good way. I had the Carribbean cobb salad with mahi and it was phenomenal; BF had a sandwich with mahi and it was also delicious. They have live music, which we saw on a separate trip to JB's. It can get loud and kind of crazy on the nights with live music, but it's still pretty fun for a night out!

I've been to Johnnie Brown's at least a dozen times and, other than a Yuenling from the tap, I've only had one of the menu items, the Juanito (comes with fries) That's it! That's all I need, because the Juanito is simply the best cheeseburger I've ever had in my life. Period. It's fantastic! It's a cheeseburger with guacamole, the usual vegetables, and some kind of special sauce (probably a blend of mayo and something else). I don't eat a lot of ground beef, but I have made the Juanito a must-have three or four times a year. The consistency of the quality has been perfect so far. Every time, it has been right on the money. Speaking of money, I think the burger and beer together are around $13, not including tip. The only reason I give this place four stars instead of five is because, if you sit at the bar, a person near you could possibly fire up a cigarette. I'm not into that at all! But, If you sit at a table, you should be fine.

I've driven by Johnnie Brown's on several occasions and always thought, "I should try that place one day." It sits right on the corner of Atlantic Ave and 3rd street, next to the train tracks. When you see it from the outside, it looks like a cool, open air, beachy bar and restaurant. I finally ended up there, and I was seriously disappointed with the service and the food. We were seated quickly, and the waitress (Rachel) came up within a couple of minutes, but when she asked what we wanted to drink, I asked what beers they had on tap and she, somewhat violently, flipped over the menu, pointed to all of the beer selections and said, " we have a lot of them" and then walked away. I was the only one in my party that wasn't sure of what I wanted, so she had the opportunity to get everyone else's order and bring me a water, but she didn't- she was just rude about me asking a simple question. The entire time we were there, she was running around like she was incredibly busy- we were having a late Sunday lunch, and the place wasn't as crazy as she seemed to think it was. While we were waiting for our food, I guess it was the owner, was standing behind me talking to someone on the phone about how the guy owed him money. From what I gathered it was a patron that said he would pay for some other peoples food/drinks, and then bailed without paying and then left his phone at the bar and wanted to get it back but didn't want to square up on the bill. I'm absolutely against not paying your bill and I think the owner had the right to not give the guy his phone back until he took care of the bill, but I should not know this story! I thought it was rude that he was standing behind me having this conversation- go in a back office! We got our food in a decent amount of time- I got a chicken sandwich, and it was super dry, almost to the point where you almost choke on it. I'm pretty sure the breast was precooked. My brother got a burger that he said was decent, and dad got the beef and cheese sandwich and he wasn't impressed. We didn't walk in because we thought we were going to have a culinary revelation, we walked in because it looked like a cool bar- and I think that if that's all you're going for, then you will really enjoy this place. If I ever go back, I will make sure it's just for a few drinks and try to get a seat at the bar. So for ambiance, I have to give this place 4 stars, but unfortunately, the service and food just didn't make the cut.

I thought going into this place I was going to really enjoy it. First eh, is when we kindly, very politely asked if we could move to an EMPTY table in the back because we had a baby with us and we were sitting right next to the bar and didn't want smoke wafting to the baby. And we got a very bitchy response from a very bitchy blonde waitress saying, "it's all the same thing! Do whatever you want" .... Uh, yea. this is your job, do it well please. Second eh, what's with the HORRENDOUSLY loud and OBNOXIOUS phone ringing superbly smack middle in the restaurant?! Makes no freaking sense. And I'm not kidding, it's really loud! Especially if you're unfortunate enough to get sat at a table RIGHT next to the telephone and you have no idea what's coming... Oh boy. Food was pretty good and decent. Nothing had me particularly raving but it wasn't bad either. I guess I would go again, but I think I'll definitely check out other places before going back.

This is a really fun place to eat, drink, and listen to some live music that reminds me of the Florida Keys. Burgers, Wings & Ribs: it seems so simple. Good food that makes for a good time. The seating is outdoors and there is no air conditioning, but nobody cares as the drinks flow, music jams, and the people are smiling. It constantly amazes me that this place is way more packed than the much more affluent and snobbish restaurants just down the street. The super close (but often sold out) parking lot directly to the south fills pretty fast and can cost $5, $10, or more depending on the night or events going on. My best advice is to start your Atlantic Avenue Pub Crawl evening early and catch a few happy hour specials first, then spend the later hours here.

This is is. The quintessential Florida bar. I half expected Jimmy Buffet to load in his equipment for a late set. Let's hit the different items, shall we? Outdoor feel, boating flags, frozen drinks, wait staff of either older women who had probably been there awhile and younger women who wear semi-revealing clothing, marginal fried food, pre-made dips, TVs, large beer displays, ceiling fans, Christmas lights up, small stage for cover bands to play. There probably are more. This place probably has them.

The food is good for what is worth. Lots of American style food. I have been for lunch and also at night for drinks and music. Drinks and music is a lot of fun! Wouldn't be my first choice for food but do like the entertainment.

Johnnie Brown's is THE place to be on Atlantic Ave. in Delray -- day, night or in between. It reminds me of a great beach bar, only without the sand in awkward places and the smell of Coppertone. Well, maybe there is some of the latter, but only because it's a couple blocks away from the water. There's a band every night, from blues to Journey tribute bands. It's all good. Great drinks, superb staff and unbelievable food. My favorites are the conch fritters and smoked fish dip. The fritters are moist -- not dry and crumbly like so many others', and have an amazing taste thanks to a surprising (jalapeno?) kick. I highly recommend these to go along with an ice-cold Stella The smoked fish dip is equally amazing. Just the right balance of smokiness and mayo, as too much of either is a recipe for disaster. It comes with pickled jalapeños, which add a nice complexity to the spread's flavor signature. There's something special in the simplicity of smoked fish dip on a cracker -- kind of like the first few gulps of cold draught beer. And together? They're like Antony and Cleopatra, Mick and Keith, or Calvin and Hobbes. Perfect. Highly recommend Johnnie Brown's for its food and unpretentious attitude. Go for drinks, check out the live music and try something delicious from their rather extensive menu. You'll be glad you did. I certainly am.

Stopped by here after a few drinks at Paddy's next door. Too bad we didn't realize they had a band earlier! The open air feel was fantastic and the band was awesome! This place seemed to have an awesome crowd and I'd love to check it out again if I ever make it back this way!

I had lunch here the other day while on a business trip. It's on the "main drag" of the area which has lots of bars and restaurants but the parking is almost non-existent. First of all, this place is a big open air joint with a very casual atmosphere. I had a greek salad and my coworker had a chopped salad. They were fine.

Geez. I wanna give this place 3 stars, but the semi-tudey waiter and use of sour and watery ketchup (either Hunt's, Del Monte or worse) and the fibrous shrimp kinda knock the rating down. I hafta say that the other experiences on Atlantic, especially at THE OFFICE, were far more fabulous. Try CARING and not being so much of a fast-food frozen outlet.

This place is extremely earth unfriendly. They serve beers in plastic cups and they do not recycle. Their practices are very wasteful. Great music and vibe but I do not want a beer in a plastic cup only to be thrown away. Or a glass bottle. Shame!

Great Key West type spot. I really dig the open air design. Good bartenders, fun atmosphere and decent prices and deals (could maybe be just a bit cheaper, although I feel like Inflation is rampant in Fla). Excellent drinks particularly Painkiller and all of the Mojitos which come in huge glasses. Didn't try much of the food but some of it looked pretty good. They have a bunch of different flavored wings. The type of place you want to see when in Florida.

Love this place. I've never eaten here but used to go there for the music and drinks when I lived in S. Florida about 15 yrs ago. Took my girlfriend there while on vacation and it hasn't changed a bit, which for once is a great thing. Great music every night and I got introduced to my new favorite rum drink, the Painkiller. Amazing location, great drinks, great music. A must see when in the Delray Beach area!

Amazing burgers, great atmosphere, excellent service, a little quirky, all around fun time! Located on Atlantic Avenue right by next to the train tracks, Johnnie Brown's really is the spot to hit. I had an amazing half pound burger called a Beer Grabber that was covered with Jalapeno, pepper jack, mango habanero sauce, lettuce and tomato. I am absolutely heart broken I don't live near here. The burger was that good! If you are in the general area at night, you'll notice Johnnie Brown's. It is a covered open air restaurant that has live music bumping at night. The restaurant packed right up even though it was only a week night. The crowd ranged from 21 to 91, from the wealthy to a homeless man but everyone seemed to be having a good time. Great vibe and great people watching! If you are lucky enough be here when a train passes by, they have a drink specials. The only negatives are parking is tough and the bathrooms with more stalls. Still, that doesn't impact my enjoyment for this place. 5 stars all the way!

I only rate for food and I try to rate in the category. In other words, I don't expect Johnnie to compete with Thomas Keller, but I do expect really good bar food. The food is fine, but nothing special. However, it is a great dive on a street where things can get spendy fast. As far as the interior is concerned, it is delightfully trashy with drink discounts based on train crossings.

Passed by this joint dozens of times on the way to other eateries... sometimes stopping for a bit to listen to whoever was on stage. Finally, one time we were walking by with some friends, and there was an open table (for the six of us!). So we sat down, ate and drank our fill, listening to a very good band... and just had a wonderful time. Nothing hidden about Johnnie Brown's... everything out in the open for all to see. The place is just fun! .. and we'll be dammed, the food was much better than expected... ...yep... we're fans!

Rude staff, arrogant management, lame band. Skip it, way too many great places just a few yards away. Rude and incompetent managers and employees - disjointed bartenders seeking to insult patrons at every opportunity. When you have a legitimate complaint, the managers are complacent and are just there to collect their pay check. They couldn't care less about the reputation of this business and don't mind letting guests know it when the opportunity presents itself.

After a fairly long day of shopping on Atlantic Ave we were hungry and wanted to pop in someplace for a cold beer and a quick bite before heading home. This place always appears to be busy and since we've had a cerveza or 2 here before, we decided to go here. Well, all I can say is - Do yourself a favor and don't spend your hard earned coin here! This place should be embarrassed by the pre-cooked crap they serve! Go to a fast-food restaurant if you want food that's pre-prepared and kept under heat lights or in a walk-in for days. We both had probably the most disgusting meal either of us have had in many, many, years and possibly the worst ever in a restaurant. We (the wife and I) both have, for whatever reason, eaten in truck stops & 24 hour diners that were MUCH fresher and better than this so called "restaurant." I ordered their "Chopped Salad," 3 fried boneless wings that are just chicken strips & they came with fries or onion rings and I chose onion rings. It came to our table (ABSOLUTELY NO exaggeration) in a quick 4 minutes! Great, you're saying, that's some fast service! Food in a NY minute! But, uhhhhhhh....No, when I'm in a sit down restaurant & going to pay almost $50.00 (our bill was $49.80 BEFORE tax & tip!) for dinner, I prefer my food to be FRESH & somewhat prepared to order. It was obvious that my "Boneless chicken wings" & onion rings were dipped in hot oil to reheat them and then served. The taste, smell & texture was obvious of them being fried hours ago! The ends of the chicken strips were hard and so dry that only the middle was edible. The oil they were reheated in even had an old & rancid smell. The table behind us ordered a dozen wings & the waiter walked to the kitchen and came out immediately with their order!?!?! So, either this place has discovered a way to flash fry food in 30 seconds OR they're serving old, pre-cooked food! My "Chopped Salad" that consisted of a bowl of brown, wilted lettuce, about 1/2 dozen diced cucumber slices, 4 small pieces of a mushy tomato and was very honestly prepared yesterday or even later was $9.00! Both of our orders of chicken strips were soaked in the wing sauce so heavily (probably to conceal the staleness) that the only thing you could really taste was the sauce and the rancid oil that they were fried in. Any chicken taste had long since left this old, over cooked, stale fried plank they refer to as a "boneless wing." I'm pretty comfortable saying that they didn't even appear to be house made. They were all uniform in size, shape and evenly battered as if they were out of a Costco bag. I'm embarrassed to say that we ate here but more so that we paid what we did for 2 beers, 2 small orders of chicken strips (3 in 1 order & 5 in the other), a side of fries, the 4 onion rings that came with my "Boneless Wings" and a bland, scant, salad they call their "Chopped Salad." It was obvious that the salad had absolutely spent at least 24 hours in a walk-in. Sorry, If you're not familiar with a commercial kitchen or the hospitality industry but a walk-in is a refrigerated room (basically) that is the restaurants cold storage. A refrigerator that is the size of an average powder room (if you will) that you must "walk-in" to retrieve items. In any case, (sorry for the impromptu restaurant education) I honestly feel even McDonalds or Burger King (yick & yickIER) would have been fresher, tastier, and definitely would have been a 1/4th of the price. I could have just as well driven down I-95 and thrown a crisp $50 out the window. Either way I would have had the same result.....An embarrassing waste of money.

The truth is there really isn't a whole lot to Johnnie Brown's. It's a simple open air bar located right on the main drag of downtown Delray Beach. So naturally, during the Spring Break months, they get an influx of the kinds of folks that vacation in Delray Beach: Chicagoans (me) and New Yorkers. While Johnnie Brown's is by no means a rockin', swanky joint, it was HANDS DOWN the most fun I've had in a really long time. Need proof? My evening at Johnnie Brown's included, but was not limited to: **A cover band of three gnarly old dudes rockin' out to everything from Bob Dylan to U2 to Joe Cocker. Why yes, I DO get by with a little help from my friends! ** A table full of middle aged single men who were straight up wasted. In fact, one of them actually puked ON THE FLOOR OF THE BAR while we were there. One of the waiters later told me that the puker's friends said they were going to feed him shots until he barfed. Mission completed, boys. ** An actual cougar hitting on the guy that upchucked on the floor. The cougar (no lady) was pretty tanked, too, and did her best to lure her prey out of the bar and back to her lair. I think she was unsuccessful. Good to know Barf-A-Roni was immune to her charms even in his inebriated state. ** The nipple brigade, aka lots of fake boobs with very little fabric covering them. I may be a straight girl, but I'm not blind! Christ. It was tits on toast. ** The entire cast of Jersey Shore rolled out of the back of the bar. Okay, not ACTUAL Jersey Shore cast members, but these guys and gals were very suspect with their spiky gelled hair, Ed Hardy t's, skintight minidresses with cutouts in the back, possible Bump-Its and orangey-tan skin. ZOMG. ** Mullets! Actual mullets! And multiple mullets to boot! I wish I could accurately describe how phenomenal the people watching is at this bar. Do yourself a favor and GO. Sit back with a Lite. Have a cigarette (you can smoke here since its open air). People watch. And report back to me all the glorious sights you see. It's really amazing.

I've been here once or twice and it's pretty laid back. They have a band playing here most nights outside and it's a good place to get together with a group of people. I haven't ate food here yet since I wound up there after having dinner somewhere else. I think they have a dance floor around the stage where the band plays at. It's all open and has a cover on top of it. A great spot for people watching.

Johnnies is the definition of a cool Florida bar. The fact that it is right on Atlantic makes it even better. It's all open so its great in the winter. There is always live music at night so if you want to grab a beer and some sliders and kick back this is it. It's not great food but the prices are right and you are going for the atmosphere more than anything. Key west feel on Atlantic Ave

I had the coconut shrimp and pain killer. Shrimp was awesome and the drink was tasty, nice and strong. I had several family members there with me and they all really enjoyed their food as well. We had walked around the other restaurants before selecting this location. What appealed the most to me was the open lay out of the place. When we stopped to view the menu we were approached by a very polite waitress who sold us on how awesome their location is. I will go back again next time I'm in town.

Cool place on Atlantic Ave. I always appreciate when there is live music, really adds to the atmosphere. I came here on a Saturday night, pretty early, around 8. It was crowded, but not the bad kind, just in the way that you know its good. I didn't eat any food, just stuck to liquid refreshments (2 vodka drinks came to a ~$12 bar tab). So nice and cheap! Miami is where I frequent most, so I was quite pleasantly surprised to see such a small bill. I did glance at the menu which consisted of your typical american bar kind of food. Burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, etc. Looked pretty good too. Very casual scene. The band played classic rock types of songs and were pretty decent at what they were doing. Once the music starts though, don't plan on holding a conversation. The quarters are small, so just about everywhere is close enough to the band that is is too loud to talk. Not a place for dancing either. So come here with people you don't really enjoy talking to and you will be just fine. The wait staff was friendly and prompt. Nothing to scream about, but a cool place for what it is.

Place is right on the strip in Delray. Good beach-y feel. Food was a lot better than it has to be. We made the same comment while we were there that we expected Guy Fieri to jump out of the kitchen. Greek chicken sandwich was excellent. BBQ was great. Burgers were huge and juicy. Will definitely return!

Okay so I came here because I was craving a burger and it is a burger place...... Lets start off with what is good about this place Great location and drink specials Now for the bad Service was mediocre, I ordered a burger they didn't tell me they slather the bun in mayo, which I don't really enjoy and never asked me how I like my meat cooked. My friends ordered the boneless wings and they tasted like the frozen Tyson chicken tenders.. Word to the wise stay away from the cheese fries they were inedible!!! Overall don't come here hungry, come here thirsty!!

Best Fish and Chips ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The service was fun and prompt, food was above average with a great sett'in outside on the avenue. My aunt likes her dish but I cant remember. Went on 2-2-10

We started out with the mac and cheese (i forgot the actual title of it) as an appitezer. It had a few different cheeses melted over it, and it was filled with bacon bits. Delicious! I had the cod sliders. There were three deep fried cod nuggets, with lettuce and tarter sauce on a mini bun. (i opted out of the cheese). The server was very friendly and kept up on our drinks. The restaurant is open air, however the several misters and fans kept us comfortable.

Seems like many places around town try to do frozen daquiri drinks, but the ones at Johnnie Browns are worth trying. Not overly sweet like candy. We also took advantage of the 1/2 priced shots when the train went by. The live music is great. My only problem with JBs is that the drink menu has no prices, except for prices for beers on the back. I think the shots, full price are about $7 and the frozen drinks about $8. For an out-of-towner, this was definitely a fun place to get a sense of Del Ray.

A place that knows the importance of regulars. I first came here after the now out of business Surf Sliders upped their prices and did away with all day happy hour to try and milk the snow birds. Initially we ordered the wings and pulled pork and wondered, do they know what flavor is? A year later I am a convert. The Mango Habanero sauce for the tenders is amazing and is the sort of thing I would kill a man for. Mac and cheese, the sandwiches, plus a pretty nice happy hour with discount sliders at the bar. This place truly took a 180 and is the sort of place if you're visiting Delray you will pass by. While the visitors can over pay at other places, I'm content to park by the tracks, order up some good food and drink, and enjoy daily live music with the locals.

Hard to beat Atlantic Avenue in downtown Delray Beach. If you want to people-watch in an open-air restaurant and bar, catch some sports, and enjoy some casual bar & grill dining... this joint will do! The service was great. They were well staffed. The food was good and very reasonable. Very casual. You can come straight from the beach!

First time visit for lunch on a beautiful day. It's open air so the weather helped the experience. I tried the 'spicy ranch' wings which is listed as 'medium heat' on the menu. They were wings that had a somewhat mild sauce (non vinegar based) topped with warm ranch dressing. Tasty but not a standout. I then had the Classic Burger, on the menu it says that its from a wood fire grill. It was 8oz on a great bun with ample cheddar cheese, very tasty. Served with very average french fries. My lunch mate had the pulled BBQ sandwich which was well portioned and she said was 'good', (again average fries). Service started by being seated with a hostess and having average server attention, nothing again that really stood out. Given it was a business day I only had Ice tea. (I'll have to come back and try the bar later). The theme on the menu is "Burgers - Wings - Ribs - Classic Rock" to that last point our server said that there is nightly entertainment. Its located adjacent to the railroad tracks in downtown Delray Beach, (for those who know the area, it adds to the 'charm' of the place when a train goes barreling by). I'll have to catch the place at different times, (at night, with music, sports on tv..etc) to get a rounded 'feel' for what they are trying to do. Right now I'd have to say that its a little average, mildly forgettable. That's not to say the place is bad. It's brand new and very nice. It just doesn't seem to have an identity yet. As I said, I guess I'll have to 'see' it a few times.

There was an outside band this past Sunday night... well not actually a band... a drummer and a guitar player with pre-recorded music.... that doesn't really fit the bill for a "band" but we came in five minutes before the kitchen was closing and were really surprised at the food... bar food you understand, but good bar food... Since changing the place from Elwood's which was a pigpen, this place is light, bright, on the Ave. and people are strolling by while you're eating... there's Tv's everywhere, which was great because the American Olympic Hockey team was crushing the Canadians... After odreing the wait staff was prompt, pleasant and right there with everything we needed.... He had a grilled blackened chicken sandwich and I had the black and blue cheese burger... both with fries and pickle.... cheap food... but way too much for one to handle! I wound up taking more than half of mine home with me.....lots of blue cheese, not greasy and fresh bread.... Perfect quick trip for really good food... Of course, he cleaned his plate...and really enjoyed his chicken... juicy, and a lot of food... I was really surprised... on the way out, the manager thanked us for coming and invited us back again which was pretty cool... Other than the lame duo for music,... our night was great.... We'll be back... Suggestion would be keep the kitchen open later.... around 1am is standard... especially when people start coming out of the bar, and want something good to eat... Definitely a good meal!

a great fun night, if you looking for a down to earth, not fancy, easy going bar!! attracts alot of morotcyclists, great bands, great female bartenders. just ..ok...food. but youre not really there for that.

A little touristy but fun. Live music, drinks, and friendly service. Open air dining and very lively atmosphere. The nachos were good, but the chicken satay was not. Guess the food is hit or miss.

Slainte!

A fun place for drinks didn't want to eat anything just drink. They have impersonators Elvis we enjoyed him last year.Tonight was Rod Stewart .It's a lot of fun the place is packed last year too.People are drink ing and having a good time. You don't even have to come in the place is open no walls. People are dancing and drinking on the sidewalk. Everybody' parting. They have a non stop bar and the bartenders are kool. This place makes money.

The food is good for what is worth. Lots of American style food. I have been for lunch and also at night for drinks and music. Drinks and music is a lot of fun! Wouldn't be my first choice for food but do like the entertainment.

Chicken Wings are GOOD. Just don't get hot it'll burn your face off. Great Friday lunch getaway from work - we will be back again for sure.
