Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Good food and very nice service. I gave it only 3 stars because we saw a cockroach climbing up the wall at our table. Never had an issue before but wasn't happy this visit.

Great food at a great price! Awesome for lunch or dinner. Free chips and salsa with all orders - best salsa I've had. Not too chunky and not too runny. Just right with the fresh chips. Food is always tasty and portions are huge. Sweet tea is always right too. Never that old stale taste or tap water aftertaste from other restaurants. Staff is very friendly and courteous.

I have been going to Mi Mexico for about 7 years now and I have never been disappointed. They have good chips and salsa and good lunch specials. My favorite lunch comes with a cheese enchilada, bean burrito, and mexican rice. I haven't had any specialty drinks or margarita's there so I can't comment about that. But all in all everything I have tried there has been good!

Really good food and lots of it. I usually leave stuffed, which is a good thing. So far I haven't had anything I'd consider bad. Good tacos, tamales, enchiladas and the carnitas are wonderful! Very reasonable prices too! The chips and salsa are quite tasty and are a great way to start off your meal. On the bad side, while the servers are knowledgeable I've had to track them down for more chips and salsa and drink refills. Not a deal breaker by any means but having worked the restuarant business for many years when I was younger I'm kind of picky on things like that. I'd also recommend that they keep a list for people waiting for tables with their names. Right now you walk in,wait in line and hope nobody cuts in front of you.

It's a good representation of standard Americanized Mexican food, although several steps above Taco Bell. Service was nice, the place is very clean and open and inviting. We were there for lunch on a weekday and it was about half full. The chips were amazingly fresh and tasty, and the salsa was good but could have used a bit more heat (we later learned there was a hotter salsa we can request). I ordered a combination enchalada and taco and my father got the carne asada. A plate of lettuce, pico, and guacamole came out first for him and the waitress mumbled something about "salad" ? My plate came next, and I picked at it for a few minutes before my Dad's meal came out. The enchalada came in a corn tortilla which was fresh and still soft but not mushy, even under the red sauce (which was good but underseasoned). Both the taco and the enchalada were stuffed with ground beef which could've used a bit more flavor but were pretty good. The taco did suffer from a bit of blandness due to a lack of any topping but iceburg lettuce and queso blanco. A bit of pico would've gone a long way on it. Dad's carne asads wasn't a skirt steak like we're used to, but rather two flat "chops" of grilled beef. Fairly tender, but his favorite part was that they were smothered in grilled onions. They do not skimp on the onions, thankfully. The refried beans were very good, although again, could've used a bit more seasoning. All in all, a fairly decent value for the price. I'd come back again and try something different.

solid cheap Mexican food. definitely outstanding when compared to other Mexican restaurants outside of central Florida but there are better (or equivalent) options throughout the surrounding area. If you go definitely try the chicken chimichanga and the cheese dip along with the salsa they bring out for free with chips

Our favorite Place for Mexican Food. Great food and a wonderful staff. Ask for Rosa she is the best!! The salsa is great and I haven't had a bad meal there

People----don't insult Tex-Mex by calling this Tex-Mex. It's not. The good part, in fact the best part is the salsa----it is rock star good! Now the rest-----it tastes like every other mexican restaurant in the overcrowded Mexican restaurant landscape in DeLand. If you throw tons of sour creme on it, it does not become delicious. Too much underseasoned sauces, too much shredded ice burg lettuce covering the entrees and the sour creme........It is a step up from Taco Bell but a small step.

Rude staff. Placed a take out order and drove 20 minutes to pick it up. The guy at the register said I never called or called the wrong number, even AFTER I showed him my call log. Didn't offer to expedite an order or even apologize. Not happy.

Good service! Above average Mexican food. Good value at lunch. Glad we found it on our way through Deland.

Mi Mexico is consistently good. It's definitely TexMex while there are some more Mexican dishes. For Mexican flavored satisfaction at an affordable price, it's the best thing going for miles around. The taco salads are tasty yummy cooked perfectly; my favorite is the shrimp taco salad.

We haven't been here for a while, because there are so many Mexican Restaurants in the area. We went there for lunch, and luckily we got there right before the crowds. Started off with the salsa and chips, of course. The salsa was very fresh and tasty. I wanted to get the lunch special # 1 which is a chilli relleno, taco and rice and beans. I also wanted to try the fish tacos. I asked the waitress if I could get a fish taco and she said no. I said what if you charge me a dollar more? She said no, and didn't even check. That whole exchange almost made me want to walk out. It seems like you would at least ask someone if that was possible. I decided to just try two ala carte fish tacos and a side of beans and rice. The fish tacos consisted of chopped fish and were a bit over seasoned and salty. Not terrible. The beans and rice were fine. My husband enjoyed the four enchilada dinner he had. It consisted of beef, cheese, chicken and a bean enchilada. The food was good, but I would recommend being a bit more flexible.

Okay Saturday August 6, 2011. Beer ice cold, excellent service, found a hair in the salsa, grilled chicken soft tacos looked to be poached not grilled. The tacos were also a bit on the oily side.

Good solid mexican restaurant more likely a 3.75 but I like them so I'll round up for a change.... Very tasty fresh salsa and chips. Queso fundito is our favorite ap and big enough for lunch. This place is popular at lunch so off peak dining will result in better service.

My wife and I love this little Mexican place.... Great food, friendly service and good prices....

I base the quality of a mexican restaurant on 3 factors -- the chips & salsa, the margaritas, and the food. At Mi Mexico, the chips and salsa were very good. Homemade chips were served warm and were crispy and correctly seasoned. The salsa was excellent and I was happy the kitchen wasn't afraid to put a few jalapenos in there for some spice. Nowadays too many Mexican restaurants make their salsa too mild. The margaritas, on the other hand, were not so good. The restaurant does not have their liquor license so the margaritas were wine-based, and tasted pretty bad. The beer selection is what you would expect at a mexican place -- dos equis, negro modelo, pacifico, etc. The food was hit or miss. I got a combination with a burrito and an enchilada, both with a chicken and green chili mixture inside. They were decent, but nothing to rave about. My wife got a chili relleno, an enchilada, and a carnitas taco. Here relleno and enchilada were also decent. I was going to give this restaurant 3 stars instead of two, but what dropped a star for them was the carnitas taco. I don't know what they did to their carnitas, but it tasted like they heated up the shredded pork by dipping it in the deep fryer for a few seconds. Even with cilantro and chopped onion on top, the ONLY thing we could taste was grease -- and not in a delicious 'oh this pork fat is dripping down my chin' way... It seriously tasted like I ate a spoonful of fryer grease. All in all, I dont think I'd go back to Mi Mexico, especially with some better mexican places being just down the road. Mi Tierra is my favorite, and La Hacienda is also so-so.

We were recommended to come here by a lady who works at the Visitor's Center in DeLand. When my dad and I went, it was pretty dead. It was Thursday, March 17th to be exact...on St. Patty's Day. Maybe that explains why, I don't know. I ordered the Island Oasis (mango flavored margarita) which was topped off with whipped cream and a cherry. I've never had a margarita based off of wine, so this was interesting. I also ordered the taco salad with ground beef. There's also chicken and steak options as well. It was served in a large taco crusted thing (which is edible of course--like the crunchy taco bell crusts). But anyways, it was yummy! My salad came with lettuce, tomato and sour cream. I think I added hot sauce in it. I don't quite remember except that it was delicious. The bathrooms were clean and our servers provided fast, friendly service. My dad wasn't too happy with his meal and I could see why by the looks of his dish. But I can only base this review off of my experience. All in all, this isn't an "authentic" Mexican restaurant. It looks authentic but some of the dishes are things that just wouldn't ever be served in Mexico...like my taco salad. Anyway, regardless, my food was good. But if you're looking for actually authentic Mexican cuisine, this might not be the best spot.

I'm giving them four stars for one reason-Pinto Bean soup. I know, I know it doesn't sound exciting but for $3.95 you get a tasty bowl of vegetarian Pinto Bean soup, a bowl of cheese and fresh tomatoes and spices to put in the soup. The first time I ordered it, it also came with tortillas. A tasty healthy vegetarian meal on the road is hard to come by especially at a Mexican restaurant where you're usually reduced to some tasteless bean dish with some fried chips on the side.
