Lone Cabbage Fish Camp Menu

Visited this place after not being in Florida for over 8+ years, and it's still going strong! Lone Cabbage Fish Camp is still my #1 place for fried gator tail. We got rained out of the airboat rides, so we just had dinner on this trip. Service was fantastic. This place is a very casual out-near-the-swamp establishment, and as other reviews have mentioned its a plastic silverware and paper plate type of place. Their specialty is fried foods... and they do it well. We ordered the Alligator dinner and the shrimp platters and the shrimp, gator, and fries were initally too hot to eat!! Love it!! The worst thing is to have a beautiful dinner come out to you luke-warm... I'd much rather burn my mouth (like an idiot) and then calmly wait for it to cool down for the remaining bites. Oh and did I mention that the hush puppies are pure-fried-perfection??? They are my favorite hush puppies to-date. They have a large parking lot for big groups. If you get a chance to ride the airboats, you really should! It is fun for any age, and especially enjoyed by my 82 year old great grandmother years ago. I did not feel like I was in danger's way at all; the guides are highly knowledable and get you just close enough to see these magnificent dinosaur-like creatures as they sun bathe on a log or bank. Among alligators you will also see some great wetland birds, possibly snakes, and turtles. You will not be disappointed! Airboats are awesome!!

Great location. Good service. Most of the menu is fried. It's all about location. It's a dingy joint with grumpy, bar witticism and gator taxidermy. They were out of frog legs when we visited. Fries were hot and crisp. The beer was cold and quick. The staff were friendly and the crowd was colorful. Food was served on paper plates with plastic cutlery. Hard to get more authentic than that.

Gator is the word of the day. To see a gator. To eat a gator. Yum! This hole in the wall joint called Lone Cabbage Fish Camp was a bit old, a bit rough around the edges, but the food was great! We had the gator basket (fried gator and fries) and hush puppies. It was all delicious....the hush puppies, the gator (tastes like chicken!), even the fries. After eating there, I want more gator! Why more people don't eat it is beyond me. Yes, it was that good. After we went on a airboat ride up St. Johns River. We saw birds, cows, and a huge alligator. I said thanks for supper buddy! It was fun zipping around in that thing. Made me want to explore some more. But alas, our half hour was over and back to land we went.

If you happen to find yourself in Central Florida looking for something different and fun to do, I suggest taking a visit to the Lone Cabbage Fish Camp. The Lone Cabbage offers a great way to experience Florida's wetlands via airboat. It offers a variety of tour packages starting with a 30 minute tour of the St. John River -- if you are lucky you will see a gator or , in addition to amazing plant life and birds. And I can't forget the cows wading in the marsh (not what you expect to see on gator tour, lol) After your boat ride, you can enjoy lunch at the cafe. I had the buffalo chicken and hush puppies -- the best puppies I have ever eaten. I also sampled the frog legs, gator bites, and homemade fries -- All were absolutely wonderful. This is old school Central Florida at its best.

Lone Cabbage Fish Camp is a no frills, laid back restaurant right off of Stage Road 520. Stop by to drink a cold one and watch NASCAR or buy a few pounds of gator meat. The food isn't the greatest, but this is where all the locals come to hang out. For my lunch, I had a sampler of fried catfish, gator, and frog legs. I had never tasted gator before and the pieces of catfish looked just like the pieces of gator, so I never knew what I was eating. Whatever I was eating, it was a bit on the dry side. The frog legs, on the other hand, were quite moist and the palest meat I had ever seen. The veins were a blackish purple, contrasting with the pale meat and grossing me out. But, I have to admit, frog legs are tastier than chicken. Long Cabbage also offers airboat rides en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ai… at $20 for a 1/2 hr ride. Airboats are quite fun to ride in. This is a bird lover's paradise, as there are several types of birds in this area of the St. John's River. Our captain stopped our boat near two alligator nesting sites. We didn't stick around for long once the momma alligator hid under the water. Alligators are capable of jumping 5 feet out of the water, so we hightailed it out of there after a few minutes.

Sons of Anarchy, this place is interesting! For people who are familiar with the show, the patrons of Lone Cabbage should be quite familiar. I saw several motorcycle clubs there, each with their own patches. They seemed pretty tame, as motorcycle clubs go. The people? Interesting... Although, as my girlfriend mentioned (when I was just about halfway through my Gator basket) the women looked "Ridden hard and hung up wet".... The live band was pretty fantastic, and seemed to hit a chord with the 50's crowd. The dancing? Interesting... The gator basket was decent, as gator goes. Deep-fried anything ends up tasting like chicken (salty? check. crispy? check). Interesting? Eh...not so much - the gator was pretty much standard. The location is the best part of the place. It's about half-way to Cocoa along the 520, and sits right on the edge of the St. Johns. You're pretty much guaranteed to see a gator or two if you're looking, and the scenery includes some airboatin' gun-totin' house-boatin' snuff-chewin' boot-scootin' Central Floridians on their lazy Sunday after church, not to mention the wetlands, so the location? Interesting.... And spectacular.

This place is too easy to accidentally zip by on Rt. 520 but very worth your visit. A shack of a restaurant on the water, it's noisy and dark, even at lunch. Windows were filthy with smudges and mosquitos. Fish taco and fish sandwich are made with swai, the Chinese "import" that imitates grouper. It was a good meal. Cole slaw was good, hush puppies, too. Coke products. We chose to take the airboat ride up the St. John's River, in and out of the "swamp". enjoyed 3 or 4 gators (very hot day) and lots of birds and grass riding (for $20, half hour). The boat driver was a smart alleck and not particularly educational but a good driver.

No Frills is right! From the outside, it looks like a place you don't stop...even if you run out of gas. It is always packed with locals from the "back woods" if you know what I mean. This was the first place I ate gator. It was neat to try I guess, but was a little dry and salty. The menu features tons of fish and basic bar food. The weekend is filled with people fishing and dropping their boats in the water. They also have air boat rides you can take. In the hot sun, it feels great. There is also a park close by for kids to play. If you haven't seen Florida swamps, this is great stop!

The Lone Cabbage is a must-do Florida experience, and is great for when you have guests in town. It's a real fish camp literally on the side of the road with nothing around for miles. When my friends came to town we came here for an airboat tour and saw saw mega-gators! Trolling around the wetlands was fun, and the price was affordable and fair. Afterwards we indulged in some fried catfish and beer--delicious!! But perhaps the best part was making friends with the locals. I don't think I've been touched by so many strangers in a bar per capita in my life...probably not for uptight city types, but a ton of fun if you can roll with it.

Tons of atmosphere. After a week on a Carnival cruise ship it was great to finally find a place that offered a more "genuine" type of experience. No hoity-toity waiters putting your napkin in your lap, or phony/ fabricated "excursions". Just greasy food, gators, and tons of vibe. Our fan boat driver spoke in that fabulous tone and story-telling language so stronly associated with the south. We saw a bunch of gators, including teensy baby gators, big ol' mean lookin' gators, and a mama hunkered way back in her den. When we got back we ate fried gator, frog legs, and catfish. Our waitress referred to us as "all-y'all". There was a great live country band cookin' up some good tunes, and tons o' bikers. I found Lone Cabbage a million times more enjoyable than the Kennedy Space Center.

This is FUN!! I think that anyone who wants a little taste of old Central Florida needs to stop in at the Lone Cabbage for an afternoon of fun & good ol boy food!. Yes, they have airboat rides, which we've been on several times, depending on the captain that you get and what kind of weather there has been, you can have a good time or a great time! Cruising around the St John's bends at speeds that seem much higher than they really are gives you the feeling of being a dirt track racer in racing mode. You see gators, birds, even wild cows..all kinds of stuff! Unfortunately, what you see is the luck of the draw, they can't plan it all out like Disney World! Lunch at Lone Cabbage is always a trip for visitors, as previously mentioned by other reviewers, gator, frogs legs, etc as well as some semi-normal foods. The bar is usually full of colorful locals and depending on when you go, there could be a meeting of Hot Rodders, Bikers, etc. Always fun to look at the parking lot here on weekends. Whenever we have visitors who have never been to the area, this is one of the places that we take 'em to! As previously mentioned, it is the type of place that a lot of folks would overlook. I say don't overlook it! Stop and set a spell, and don't forget to wear that new Harley shirt!!

Our tour guide would repeatedly describe this place as rustic. Not the type of old European rustic that stirs memories of charming bed and breakfast inns. Rustic in this connotation meant dilapidated. We were even warned to use the park bathrooms nearby in order to avoid the ones here. But, we weren't here to judge the state of this camp. We wanted to see some gators and ride some airboats at 40 mph! Whenever I think of these two things, I am reminded of Adam Sandler's heyday when he portrayed his half-witted character in The Waterboy. As for the half-hour ride, it was totally worth it. We saw plenty of alligators and got pretty close to a few of them. The guide and captain of the airboat was quite knowledgeable about most things gator, such as differentiating the males from the females and recounting their mating and reproductive cycle. He was also keen on pointing out a rare blue heron nest. For me, I enjoyed the fast and open-aired ride aboard the airboat more than anything else today. When we got back, we were treated to an ice-cold cup of Southern sweet tea (supposedly the best in the area). We also had the chance to handle and take pictures with a real baby alligator (after making a $5 donation to a conservation group). Saving the environment and getting to hold an alligator - all in a day's work!

This place was definitely scary looking. The food was just okay and was fairly expensive for being such a dive.

Have been three consecutive years. Son has spring break at the expo and we always visit. Great food. Had fish taco's today and the kids ate gator. We then as always did the airboat ride. Half hour of water and wildlife. Saw plenty of gators, blue herring, and cows. Great spot for a Central Florida visit.

Just horrible food. Good old Florida atmosphere, gators around dock. Mostly deep fried food offered. I have run restaurants in the past and the deep fry oil hadn't been changed in quite a while. Everything tasted the same and very greasy, tasted like burnt oil. I would not go back.

Best frog legs in the area! Airboat rides are OK, but I see more wildlife when I airboat out of Camp Holly in Melbourne.

To tell you the truth I have passed this place many times over the years on drives along S.R. 520. So many times I would say almost countless.. State Road 520 It's a great cut-off from I-95 to the 528 Beeline (BeachLine) or all the way to S.R. 50 East Colonial Drive. Orlando to Cocoa or any other points to South Florida. Way back in the day I'm sure I stopped in for a drink or two but most of the time I am just flying right by on that big 4 lane rd. at 65 to 75mph. Lot of times I have passed by thinking I ought to stop..oh I am in too big a hurry....oh it looks too busy...etc. Well the other early evening after a day of sitting around the pool sunning and boozin'. I found myself with a hankering for seafood. Now ya know when you have a hankering for a particular food you have to really search the database in your head for just the right place. Seafood in Orlando is a funny beast as it is, you would think since most of the state is coast, Orlando would have some good Seafood spots and yes there are those that would have said Red Lobster or Winter Park Fish Co. or Lee and Ricks or Victorio's or Mitchells or etc. etc..... You get the point. I was really looking for that hole in the wall, way out of the way place, that would have seafood and great outdoor atmosphere that was not a chain place. Not really sure why Lone Cabbage popped into the noggin but it did. From that moment I decided to head out of O-Town and give a real old Florida place down on the river in the middle of nowhere a try. From downtown Orlando it's about a 45 minute drive. Now you are gonna read in some of the other reviews it's a Biker Bar, It's a Dive Bar, Local Rednecks Bar, it looks seedy, It's a hidden gem, They only serve Fried Seafood, yadda yadda yadda. They are all right.... it is all of that. Which in my book is GREAT and something different, not the same ol' same ol' If you want a real Florida Cracker experience off the path, hidden gem, along the river full of real Florida fish and wild Gators and Airboat Rides and really GREAT Fried Seafood and Drinks! Do like I did and head out there and have lunch or dinner. Take the motorcycle, take the bike, take the scooter, wear your $4.99 Tractor Supply hat and cowboy boots, swim suit and tank top or the Daytona Bike Week T-shirt you bought at CVS, open the sun roof or convertible top on the car and just GO!!! The evening I was there it was very laid back. It was a mix of travelers, Local types and people from Cocoa and Melbourne. We sat inside for dinner but they have a huge deck that overlooks the river perfect for drinks or dinner and or nature photo's. Also on the outside they have a huge covered area that can feature live music ya know for when the bikers are there! Lots of parking, for trucks, cars, bikes and RV's. Anyway having never eaten there I looked over the menu which included about every local Florida seafood concoction you could think of including a few non fried dishes and decided on the pictured Tilapia Sandwich, which is fried LOL!! I will tell you it was huge, fall apart fresh, and it was very, very good. My overall experience was shock!! I cannot believe I have passed this place so many times over the years that from here on out, It's in the rotation for good fried seafood, it's in the padded my drive time to include a stop, it's a my guest from out of town want a "REAL" Florida experience go to place. I will say from my drinks, appetizer, to my sandwich one of the best Hole in The Wall dinners I have ever had. Service was that mix of local, surly , good with the repartee kind of server! Everything was cooked perfect and served in a timely manner. At the end of it all I am so glad I went out there, and like I said really cannot believe I have waited so long all these years. It was great, and I highly recommend to try if you really want that way out in the middle of nowhere old school real Florida vibe.

Just a fabulous pit stop on the way to and from Orlando. Ordered a burger today, it rocked! Ordered a Budweiser, it was ice cold. Watched a large gator swim by. Just a beautiful spot. Thank you!

Wow just wow....... am so glad I choose to do this. At first your skeptical because you want to see alligators. It's not guaranteed you'll see any but our boat driver Kenny knows where to go... this guy is very informational about the surroundings and has great stories of his own which made the trip even better. I will be returning when I visit Florida again. Thanks so much Lone Cabbage for a great adventure. Our kids really enjoyed this. Family of 5 and it's well worth the $$$$ DONT FORGET TO ASK FOR KENNY ON YOUR NEXT BOAT RIDE!!!!

Was in the mood for some gator so decided to give this spot a try. Airboat rides are available but we stuck to the food today. We were seated promptly and our drink order taken right away. I ordered the combo which included gator, frog legs, catfish, coleslaw, fries, and hush puppies. Our meals were delivered in a reasonable amount of time. The gator was delicious on its own and strangely went well with cocktail sauce. The catfish was very tasty and went well with tartar sauce. The frog legs were the best tasting and expertly prepared. I dont order them often but these were exceptional. Cole slaw and fries were very good. The hush puppies might be the best I have ever eaten. They were moist on the inside with the perfect crisp on the outside. It also had a sweetness to it but just the perfect amount. I will definately be back for more.

I'm new to the orlando area (about 6 months) and I like exploring new roads on my motorcycle. Well, I was out one day and was running out of gas so I got off the 528 and onto the 520 and headed east. I hoped I would run into a gas station soon. Along the way, I saw this place to my right, just over the bridge at the St. Johns. I didn't go there thay day but I definitely made it a point to go my next outing. I'm so glad I found this place. The ambience is calm and soothing and outdoorsy all at once. They offer air boat rides regularly and seem to do quite well with that side of the business. Otherwise, there is a bar and restaurant where you can eat indoors or outside. I always choose outside. They have some of the best Mahi Mahi sandwiches I have ever had!! Delicious!! And the gator tail is pretty tops too! The seating and some Erving outside is calm but yiu will be surrounded by tourists and locals from around the USA. They have wooden benches and tables (be careful for spiders) and if yiu sit by the water, you can see the fish feeding along yhe surface, the occasional gator out a bit, and the locals floating by on their boats. It's NOT a marina...but you do see people floating up and down the river. Prices are very fair and they have a couple different types of beer :) I love coming here and everytime has been friendly and welcoming. I definitely recommend this place if you've never been on an airboat and/or if you want to do/try something different (gator/frog legs/fish/etc). Give it a try!

We went to Lone Cabbage for lunch and sat at the bar. The food was good but the staff all seemed like they really didn't want to be there. The bartender was inattentive and was more interested in chatting with other staff than taking care of customers. We watched as our food sat in the window for several minutes while the bartender talked to the other employees... Finally after the bell that indicates food is ready rang twice one of the servers brought us our food... We won't be going back

Great place! Our guide went to great lengths to ensure we saw alligators and provided a fun ride. His name was Kenny and he was very knowledgeable and friendly. Best $25. I've spent in awhile my kids will never forget this experience.

Stopped for lunch and an airboat tour, loved the captain, the atmosphere was totally casual - good food I had the catfish, huch puppies and swai. The airboat ride was the highlight of the trip, saw lots of gators, great scenery and learned about the trees, wildlife and gators from the captain. I'd go back for sure!

This is one if my favorite hidden jems outside Orlando-- amazing location, very low-key and very affordable. If you're looking around thinking you want to get out of Orlando but you don't want anything fancy then come here. This is Old Florida at it's best.

I was born and raised out near Lone Cabbage and enjoy their food every time; particularly the Swai which is a Japanese cat fish. The waitresses are always friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxed.

This is a Sunday so there is live music (every Sunday starting at 1:00) with a very good band playing a mix of country & rock. The crowd is a mix of tourists in for the airboat rides, families with small children in search of gators, and motorcycle enthusiasts ( mostly couples ) on day trips from Orlando vicinity. We are here by invitation for a birthday gathering. So I am stepping outside of my box to a new experience. Upon arrival I think how cute this place is to be in the middle of swampland. It is actually a hot June summer day, 97 degrees, as I write this. But there is a breeze/cross wind coming through this open air restaurant. There are also ceiling fans, but yes it is still very hot. A Full bar is available as is table service. The menu offers burgers, fried food, and basic salads. This place delivers exactly what one would expect from a fish camp / airboat dock. We had very nice helpful service. The food is decent and the buckets of beer are reasonable. The birthday boy (77 years old) went for an airboat ride and had a blast. For all this it gets 3 stars, which to me means it met all expectations.

This is a bit off the beaten path, and while there are other airboat options, this is probably the most true to form. The drivers have lived here forever, and know the area like the back of their hand. They're very knowledgeable, and our driver was surprised we were able to see any gators that morning- since they only come out to sun- and it was a bit cloudy that morning. They have a restaurant/bar area where they have a full menu and bar. Pop comes out in cans with a glass of ice, no pop machine here. The hushpuppies were definitely the star of the meal- I've never tasted a hushpuppy so sweet and delicious. I would go back just for that!

In addition, the Lone Cabbage restaurant in Cocoa closed Sept. 23-24 with a total of 13 violations, including one high-priority violation for several hundred rodent droppings on the kitchen floor, under prep tables, coolers and freezers, as well as droppings in pans on a shelf.

Love this place. My dad used to bring me here as a kid and its still just like I remember. The gator tail was delish. the airboat ride captain was very courteous and we saw quite a few gators in the wild. The only thing lacking really was they have no draught beers or an atm machine for miles which would have been nice because i wanted to tip the captain. Ended up adding it to my meal check. All in all would recommend

This place is ok, but it is not for everyone. By that, I mean it is not for me. I went for the air boating and while we waited, had some snacks. They were... fried. They have every type of yellow beer you can imagine. I was... unimpressed. There are many opportunities to have a signature fried critter or southern food, it was all lack luster and bleh. The Airboat ride was pretty cool, the pilot seemed to have a passion for wildlife, with almost tribal tales of the animals and traditional stories, of animals he has encountered. I was a little overwhelmed by the preponderance of biker culture. I almost didn't go, I did have my parents from Northern California with me, and I didn't want them to be frightened by the roughness. Over all: It was OK.

It was a rainy, hailing cold March day in Northern California. I got on a plane and flew to warm sunny Florida. I had been to Florida a few times before but the disparity in the weather had never been so enormous. We went to the Loan Cabbage and had an eye opening Central Florida experience. There were Alligators across a small irrigation ditch which was not very far from where we parked our car; no one else seemed to mind this but me. This place is known for good catfish, all things fried, drinks and a good place to hear live music and last but not least....Airboat rides. The food was fried, fried and fried. I had a sample plate of fried catfish, frogs legs and alligator tail and don't leave out the fried hush puppies. I am not a fan of seafood but the catfish was delicious, the frogs legs tasted like the murky bottom of a dirty moldy river with rotten fish. Alligator had no taste but the consistency of a firm sponge. The beer was cold and a steady stream of it. Live music, lots of people hanging out enjoying the food, music and the sunshine. 24 hours prior I was boarding a plane wearing flip flops, shorts and a short sleeve shirt in a hailstorm. Now full, warm and had a sunburn that I could boast about. We went down the pier and boarded a huge Airboat. We were taken out on the St. Johns River and off the beaten path to see some strange sights!! A marshy wetland with cows standing in the middle of nowhere. Muddy spots with gigantic alligators looking lazy. Every kind of bird you could imagine or new ones to add to your list of wonders. The driver or captain, not sure what to call the guy; he edged up to a couple of large alligators and some of us were imagining our fate. It was an amazing place and an experience that I will never forget. Definitely recommend!!!

If you want good service and reasonably priced food I would recommend their sister restaurant, Norman's in downtown cocoa. Felt like the server didn't want us there and made us feel uncomfortable for the family gathering we were having. Food is more expensive here and mediocre compared to Norman's. We are local and won't be back. They can take advantage of the tourists we are not interested as locals.

I have visited The Lone Cabbage on many occasions over the years, most recently on a Sunday afternoon when live music is offered. This is a fun, super casual place where the crowd includes locals and tourists, friendly bikers, families and customers of all ages. The place looks pretty much like a shack and there's no need to get all dressed up. There is a small dining room but most people prefer sitting at picnic tables outside on the deck. The food is mostly fried but I have to say they have the tastiest fried fish with fries, hushpuppies and slaw you can get anywhere. I don't usually eat Swai but it fries up to be a big, mild fish filet with an extra crunchy batter coating. I could never get fish to turn out like that at home. The alligator is good, too, so if you've never eaten alligator you should try it. If you've never been on an airboat you should try that too! Service is friendly and the band played an enjoyable mix of mostly classic rock and country. Prices are reasonable and the LC sits right on the St. John's River where you can watch alligators floating by. A little slice of Old Florida for everyone to enjoy.

We came for the fish fry and I wanted to try the gator. They have adequate shaded parking for motorcycles, which is a plus, and some strange looking huge birds walking around, another plus with me. We all had the catfish special, which was delicious, but was a little affronted by our waitress when we asked about substituting the beans for french fries. She could have been a little more pleasant when she told us no, maybe even just suggest we could order fries ala carte if we wanted. But other than that we were happy with our meal and the surroundings. We will definitely be back when family comes to visit to take them on an airboat ride and stay a little later to listen to the music. Oh, the gator does happen to taste just like chicken!

  • R G.

Good place off the beaten track. Of course everything here is fried. And when I go to a dive type bar I expect that. Very much a local hangout with bikes everywhere on the weekends. To the hipster that was afraid of exposing her parents to the biker culture, GET over it and go back to eating tasteless vegan crap. Yes there are a lot of bikes on the weekend but the combined income of most of these people would surprise you. Haven't done the air-boat ride yet but I am planning on taking my grand-kids the next time they are in town. Those of you that commute between Orlando and the coast stop by and have dinner one day after work.
