Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

used to be pretty good it it has ale down a bit. I'd recommend sticking to the Italian specialties. Meatballs were good and knot rolls in garlic butters were really good. Last time I had a salad with grilled chicken. It was full of white iceberg lettuce sprinkled with dried craisins . the chicken was very poorly prepared,, dry and tasteless.

The best Italian restaurant i have found, family owned. The food is fantastic and fresh.

Oh man, it's really difficult writing this review because the hospitality of this mom-and-pop place was amazing. I ordered a pizza and salad for pick-up and she talked to me with genuine concern about my husband's health (whom I'd mentioned was sick). So I preface this with saying that this review is entirely based on the standard "pizza and salad" order that I am always looking to perfect. Unfortunately, the order - for my husband and I - left much to be desired. Pros: The atmosphere and hospitality were amazing. The sauce was delicious and tasted fresh. The sausage on our pizza was sliced Italian sausage and it was amazing, I wish every place did this. Cons: The mushrooms on the pizza were canned. There are few ways to ruin a perfectly good pizza quicker than canned mushrooms. Since these don't bother everyone, I decided to overlook them and focused on the pizza as a whole. Overall, the pizza was salty and the crust was so tough that it was difficult for myself (a 31 year old woman life-long pizza eater) to chew. Also, the Greek salad had black olives rather than kalamata. Perhaps it's simply because I am of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle generation that I have such a high standard for Pizza, but just the same: If I'm going to spend $22 on a pie, it better be better than I can make at home. This wasn't.

Looked on yelp for a local restaurant that served manicotti as it's my son's favorite dish. Decided to try Villa maria after reading the reviews and we were not disappointed. We had a good basic salad served with delicious garlic knots. The manicotti was homemade and was huge. My son loved every bite that he could manage. There was enough left over for lunch tomorrow. This a delightful family run restaurant with good service and delicious food. Give it a try.

Ok, it's in coachman plaza (yelp directions are a little off). Great atmosphere. We are here at 1:30-2ish on a Wednesday. Very hospitable. Don't be thrown off by prices..portions are big! I had a calzone add pepperoni...hubs had a sausage sandwich. Took about 15 mins to get food (they gotta bake it ya know). Servers were great and friendly. Food was great! A lot of ricotta was in that calzone! So if you're not a huge fan of it..just ask for light. Sauce was great. Come to find out the servers were mother and son. Awesome proprietors! Will be back! :)

Chicken parm with penne pasta. Tender chicken, sauce delicious. Garlic knots excellent. 15 people at our table and 15 people are smiling.

GREAT dinner at Villa Maria. I had the eggplant and my fiancée had the sausage and peppers- both were outstanding. Bruschetta was amongst the best we've had and the service was hospitable and really engaging, even if just a tad slow (due to a large group). This is REAL Italian food. And while the prices initially seem a little high, it's not an issue when you see the size of the portion. It's easily 2 meals. Just BEWARE: this is a BYOB drink place. Which I actually really like, since I can bring a cheap bottle of wine to enjoy, but it's something you want to know ahead of time. Will definitely be back. Great place.

On my first day at a new job, i came here with a group of my coworkers. This place has been here for years and I had probably driven by it a million times, but never went in. This seems to be a popular place among those at my office, so I had to come see what it was all about. We called in our orders ahead of time since we were on a bit of a time crunch. I chose the baked ziti with salad and garlic knots. The restaurant itself was nice, they had a large booth to fit all of us and the decorations were nice. The family that owns this restaurant is very friendly and knows all their regulars. As far as the food goes, the garlic knots and salad were tasty. The cheese and flavor of the sauce on the ziti was good, but sadly not as good as the fabulous baked ziti that my family makes at home. Still it was a solid meal and a good experience overall. I know i will be back here again and look forward to trying the pizza or a panini.

Some of the best pizza in the area!! Yummy thin crust and the toppings are fresh and delicious! The sauce is complimentary to tie it all together. Have only tried the pizza so far bust can't wait to go back.. The whole menu sounds delicious. Also the staff is very friendly! Only problem is no delivery! Which I think is a huge mistake. With pizza this good in an area that is certainly lacking! They would make a killing. I know I would order all the time :) You've gotta try this place.
(4)R. J.
Excellent homemade Italian food. Strongly recommend you try the garlic knots. To die for!
(5)David B.
Just got take out from here for my office. Was some of the best Italian food we've had in this area. We've driven past a million times and never thought to try it. So glad we did. We got the lunch baked ziti, eggplant parmesan and alfredo pasta. All three were delicious, especially the ziti and eggplant. I don't write yelp reviews often but the food was so good, felt the need to share. Definitely a hidden treasure, we will be back!
(5)J K.
Very good Italian for the price. Wonderful things come out of their oven: crispy crust with chewey dough. Their garlic knots and stromboli were excellent. A classy interior without being formal gives the place a family feel. Friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere make this and easy choice. Try the off-menu mushroom sauce - a sautéed fresh when you order it.
(5)Denise W.
Incredible garlic knots. Very friendly owners too. I ordered a calzone and it was delicious. I couldn't even finish half. My daughter ordered chicken parmigiano with linguine and loved it. The marinara sauce is excellent too. Highly recommended.
(5)Bud S.
The food is great and the prices are unbeatable. I could eat here every day of the week. The owners are nice. The old man is grumpy, but Maria makes up for it. Eat here. You can't beat it.
(5)Aaron M.
The owner is super nice and we met her whole family. The pizza though was a bit simple for better words? We were dining with one other party in the place -- and it just felt like it was missing the pizzazz of a fun family Italian place.
(3)Mark D.
Having moved from from Long Island, I was prepared to not find the caliber of Italian cuisine I'd been accustomed to. Well, I finally found it at this well kept secret shrine of good Italian cooking. I love the feeling of welcome we experience her. And the wonderfully, and made to order dishes. This is the real deal! ...Shush!
(5)Eric O.
Absolutley delicious Italian pizza and dishes! Killer garlic knots as well. Lasagna and eggplant parmesan are my go to's. The marinara and spaghetti sauces taste like they just left the garden. Family run staff and cooks, casual atmosphere. Also BYOB Portions are very large which leads to a great value for your money.
(4)Daniel P.
Great New York style pizza, good and clean, great service. I would have given a five star but we requested garlic knots and they for got to bring them. Would recommend if your in Tampa
(4)Jessica M.
Clean, classy environment with cozy feeling. I cannot stress how clean the restaurant was. The servers were kind and helpful. Way better than my usual family-owned pizza place. Food was excellent and I have a new fav pizza place now!
(5)Marcus W.
Came here with the whole family from NYC. As soon as we opened the door we could smell all the great food and baked goods from the kitchen. Owner and daughter warmly greeted and seated us. Nice atmosphere from such a small place. Good selection overall, everything made to order. The Eggplant Rolatini was superb. The owner stayed and chatted for while afterwards. We'll definitely be back.
(5)Amy B.
Date night last week, don't get me wrong the food was amazing!!!!! Totally 5 stars for the food! But.... They didn't have sweet tea, so of course Brandon was grumpy, and he really hates when people say " we have Unsweet tea we can bring you out the sugar" because obviously sugar needs warm water to dissolve and added sugar to cold tea does nothing for anyone. Anyways we ordered the garlic knots and they were fantastic totally a must have when you come here!! We wanted to split a pizza (with different toppings) but our server told us it was easier for the guys in the back to have us just order two small pizzas.... Um I don't know if you've ever made a pizza before but there's nothing tough about putting different toppings on each side, anyways we ordered the two pizzas (which costs more btw) and when they came out we had put our plates from the garlic knots in a stack with the marinara and crumbs, well our pizza came out and the lady said "oh you might need those plates for your pizza".... I found this odd like why wouldn't you just bring two more plates or at least offer? After our pizza came out we didn't see our server for what seemed like forever I swear we finished our food and sat there for a good twenty minutes before she came back. I want to say there were only two servers working and there maybe should have been some more because there were some fairly big parties there that night dining too! Food was delicious and the prices were awesome the service was lacking though! I already want to go back for more garlic knots ... Make sure you get them if you come here!!!
(4)Cecilia D.
Villa Maria is a family restaurant. Father and Daughter are in charge of the cooking and Mom and Giovanni are at the front. We were visiting the area for a swim meet and made Villa maria our restaurant of choice. Do not missed the home made ravioli or the garlic knots. Their spaghetti and meatballs are a must! If you are not for pasta, go for the pizza. It is Heavenly! Since this is truly a family owned and operated business you have to relax and enjoy! The family will really greet you and take good care of you, just enjoy the food! Best Italian food out of NJ! we will see you next time, thank you!
(5)Francois D.
Great staff very friendly. Didn't have time to stay just placed a pick up order. I'll finish the review when I finish eating at home.
(4)Mark M.
We got to the restaurant and was not greeted. We waited 10 minutes and was then seated. It took at least another 10 minutes before the waitress acknowledged our presence. We asked for water with lemon and she brought nasty tasting water with no lemon. We waited another half hour before we could flag someone down to bring lemon and take our order. We sipped our water with lemon for another 45 minutes or so while waiting for our pizza. Finally we got fed up and left. The waitress said, as we were leaving, "Should I take your pizza out of the oven"? Quite frankly I was surprised that the pizza was even in the oven at that time. I said, "I don't care what you do with the pizza" and proceeded to walk out of the door. If I could I'd give it a minus 5 stars. Needless to say I'll never go back there again.
(1)Bill H.
Another one of our Clearwater favorites. Every time we come to town we stop here. A small family owned restaurant with great service, great food, large portions for the price. We made a reservation for 30 after a swim meet - we were not disappointed!
(5)Ben G.
The garlic knots were A+. Some of the best things I have ever tasted. The pizza was super garlicky (awesome), super fresh, and loaded! Very, very good.
(4)Ali K.
The customer service is excellent... Very professional.... The food is also excellent, generous portions for a reasonable price Will definitely come again
(5)Lisa P.
Poorly run family business. Only one person in the family showed up on time for the lunch rush causing delay in service. Only 3 people of our 4 person party got their food after waiting 1.5 hrs! Most importantly, owner was highly defensive of our complaint. I am an Italian and the food was average at best.
(1)Louis F.
This place took me back to New york. Great taste. The pizza is like heaven. I went back the next day and ordered a calzone and and I kid you not the cheese inside could be lifted a foot high. No one puts that much cheese in anything. You have to try this place. Bring Your own alcohol because they don't sell but allow you to bring your own. Can you say awesome.
(5)Maegan G.
Amazing!! I have no idea why this place wasn't packed last night. REAL Italian cuisine, a family run and owned business (our waitress was Maria!). The food...oooohhh soo good! We had a Greek pizza that was delicious and garlic knots. Oh garlic knots...they were to die for! For dessert I had the limoncello cake which was of course so good (and...I noticed just last night that limoncello cake smells like Fruity Pebbles...true story!) The decor is wonderful, the waitress was great and I can't wait to bring the rest of my family here!
(5)Evils J.
Without a doubt 5 stars! Everything is so fresh & you can definitely taste it! Tried the classic chicken parm as I always do to judge good Italian as well as their red sauce. As a Sicilian from Boston, it's impossible to find a good Italian restaurant that is "acceptable", let alone impressive. My wife would have sworn these cutlets came out of my kitchen. Their texture, breading & seasoning are almost identical to mine. Their red sauce is different from mine, but very, very flavorful. My wife even said she could eat this, even after being spoiled by mine. She got the chicken cacciatore & was blown away by it. The chicken was perfect, the sausage was fresh & flavorful as well as the peppers, onions, mushrooms & black olives. Garlic knots were freshly baked & served hot out of the oven. Their salad was wonderful. They make a home made Italian vinaigrette which really fantastic. The hostess is the daughter of the father & is very pleasant & informative. She should be, she grew up eating this food. The only way this place could be any better would be if they served Pepsi products, but that has nothing to do with how amazing the food is here! If you are here on vacation, you owe it to yourself to done here. If you live in Tampa Bay, you need to become a regular!
(5)Denise C.
I give this restaurant zero stars. We stopped by there after reading the good reviews only to be greeted by coldness from the staff. It was a Thursday evening and the restaurant was quite busy with a lot of seniors. They eventually greeted us and brought us to a booth but we sat there for approximately 10-15 mins prior to a server coming to our table. We immediately ordered our beverages and a pizza. We ordered water with lemon and got water dropped off to our table without lemon and the server was gone before we had a chance to ask for lemons. 15 more minutes or so went by and we finally caught the attention of another server and asked for lemons. We also asked what was going on with our order since all we ordered was a pizza. The server rudely asked my fiance if he wanted a cup of coffee, why we have no clue. We did get the lemons but after yet another 10 mins. or so went by and no one came by to tell us that our food would be out shortly, we decided to leave. They could have cared less about us and really from looking around the restaurant most tables sat waiting for food as well. I couldn't tell you if the food was good or bad because we didn't stay to find out. The staff was cold, unfriendly, and unprofessional. There was not one person working the front of the house that seemed genuinely happy to be working there. Personally, after this experience, I wouldn't waste my time going there.

fresh tasty pizza. Clean pretty restaurant

Took a party of 8 tonight for dinner. The hostess wanted to know what we we're doing and then told us we could not be seated. We were told that we should have called earlier to see if they could accommodate us. Extremely disappointed and shocked at how we were treated.
(1)Beth L.
My son said, "like a good Olive Garden". That's a fairly apt description. Service was a bit slow but the food was first-rate. We cleaned our plates.
(4)John F.
This place is amazing! Italian cuisine is the real thing. I had the manicotti. The owner, Lisa told me that the portion was so large that I would have enough for lunch tomorrow. My first thought was, "she doesn't know my appetite". She was right and I was so very wrong. Homemade crepes were stuffed to exploding with ricotta cheese filling and the red gravy (not sauce) was "sop up with garlic knots" good. I was full, but had to have coffee and cannoli. This food was so worth me having to loosen my belt. We'll be going back many, many times to Maria's House. Now, if you will excuse me I must go slip into my stretchie pants.
(5)Shannon A.
This the best pizza in the area. the owners are some of the best and hard working. bring your own wine
(5)Kit M.
My girlfriend just held her husband's 50th birthday luncheon at Villa Maria. The food was awesome! Best pizza...we had all types, and all were perfect, from the crust to the toppings. Also loved the ziti. Will definitely be back.
