Very good Greek food. More than enough food. I had the shiskabob plate, broiled chunks of filet mignon with typical charred veggies. We also ordered broiled lamb chops. 4 thick chops for 15.95 ... great soup and Greek salad.

I have been dining at the Acropol since the early 80's. The food is always good with generous portions at a reasonable price. Their gyro is one of the best I have ever had. (And I've had the lamb one also). This is Greek diner food. Both locations have great food and service. Pete and Stella taught the boys right. Yasoo.

Cute little old diner with some of the best greek food in the area, even compared to Tarpon Springs. Split a greek salad with the house dressing and follow it with a souvlaki or an gyro. or anything else for that matter, it's all amazing. Breakfast is great too, try the gyro omelette with feta and tzatziki, or the monte cristo if you want to go all out. Great food, great service.

Mmm yummy!! We came here because it was down the street from where we were staying. Food was plentiful and cheap! I couldn't even finish my gyro. It was loaded with meat. Definitely try their gyros!

I used to drive by this place thinking it was a little dumpy cafe...until I read solid reviews for several different sites. I've eaten there the last three days in a row. Food is homemade, with the freshest ingredients. Their servings are more than generous. And the value is unbelievable. My husband and I had dinner under 25 bucks including the tip. One of my favorite mom and pop cafes.

The best place for home Greek cooking. It's not like the cheesy touristy restaurants up at Tarpon Springs, but their food is just as good. I usually get a souvlaki, and theirs is pretty good. I love their tziki sauce. The thing you MUST try at this place is their Greek salad. Their salad is freshly made with potato salad topped off with ther most YUMMY salad dressing. You can't get the dressing anywhere, so you must try this. And the portions for the salad are HUGE. A side Greek salad can easily feed two.

Copious amounts of really good food. Acropol special is great!

Other than having pepsi products only which is common in this state, the food was very good and the prices refreshing compared to the Keys. Authentic, hot and tasty food. We split the acropol platter which was like two full meals. Next time I'm traveling through will stop here again. And they serve breakfast on Sunday's until 2pm.

Gyros just as good as Greektown in Chicago. Enough said.

Great authentic Greek food at great prices. Everything was delicious and service with a smile. Atmosphere nothing fancy, dinerish I guess. Would definitely eat here again!

We have been dining here for 15 years. Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner - everything is amazing. As another reviewer said, the greek salad dressing is the best. Great food at great prices!

They have a good record of consistency. I have a few menu items I get, the veggie burger is one. The staff is always friendly. The good part is they have a menu for however you feel...really hungry or a quick lunch. If you're local, you'll probably become a regular. Try the stuffed grape leaves and the spinach pie.

  • Pete A.

Been coming here for at least 20 yrs....the food is always good and consistent...gyros and Greek salad are the best...lemon rice soup is awesome.....fries are always hot and crisp...you can't go wrong if you love Greek food...have yet to go here for breakfast but I heard it is reasonably priced and very good....

  • Meg G.

The food is excellent, the atmosphere is not. We have now eaten there twice because the gyros are delicious, and the platter is huge enough for two meals. Love the price to quantity ratio. Last night I was in there, and the place reeked of cigarette smoke. I was so glad we decided to do carryout. We'll continue to go back, but only for carryout.

Best Breakfast in Town! Everything is homemade, made to order and fabulous. I love this place. So glad it's close to home. The gyros are to die for! Also, the Shish Kabob!

I always look forward to visiting the Acropol Inn - my favorite local Greek diner in the Clearwater area -- because the food is so delicious and the service is consistently excellent! First lets talk about the food, because that's what you are looking for. Acropol has a wide-assortment of meat and vegetarian dishes including Greek classics like Pastitsio and Gyro as well as American favorites and sandwiches. There is something on the large menu to please everyone. However I almost always order the London Broil special with Pita and Salad. The plate arrives loaded with five or six slices that look to me like mini sirloin steaks, cooked to order and generously seasoned Greek-style with lemon and herbs. The salad is cold and crisp hiding a scoop of Greek potato salad under the greens. Try the salad with the house dressing. Its creamy but tastes like its made with more yogurt than mayo. I like to use it as a dip for the complimentary bread. If you never order anything else but the London Broil I would totally understand. But then you would miss out on the Broiled Lamb Spareribs. This lamb dish is nothing like the mildly flavored leg of lamb you might have been served around the holidays. These spareribs are crispy-crunchy, juicy and delish, finger-licking goodness! Its a fatty cut so be forewarned, or just indulge. There are many other great dishes on the menu like the spinach pie that is packed full of cut-leaf greens or the Greek-style broiled fish. But I always return to the Greek style Roasted Chicken that is served as a special most days. The dish arrives with a generous portion of hot roasted chicken, skin crisped and served with a pile of yellow rice (and red sauce if you want it). The rice is perfectly cooked -- flavorful, tender plump grains and steaming hot. The secret behind Acropol's success and consistency is that Jimmy and Debby are always there. Jimmy owns the restaurant. He also selects the meat and produce, hand-cuts the London Broil steaks and sometimes prepares your dinner. He is also a really nice guy! He enjoys meeting his clients and is a charming host. Debbie is a delight! She is quick with a smile and always has something nice to say. She sees everything and makes sure that your food arrives promptly, hot and just as you ordered. Acropol transports you back in time to a by-gone era before corporate franchise restaurants and 'plastic' food. Its downright old-fashioned in a good way! Just take for example the complimentary special mints that are kept by the register in an old fashioned jar with a very long-handled teaspoon. These are not the hard red-white Star-Brite plastic-wrapped mints served to you with the tab. No. These are practically dessert! Soft and pillowy, these mints beckon to you, taunting you to take just one or two more because they are sooooo gooood!! Ok, I guess I am exaggerating a bit on the mints but the point I am making is that Jimmy, Debbie and the Acropol staff are committed to serving freshly cooked, quality food and outstanding service in every aspect of your dining experience, from soup to mints! The decor is somewhat dated though I always enjoy looking at the hand-painted vistas of Greece decorating the one long wall. It brings back memories of my trip to Rhodes. its a nice touch. The booths, tables and chairs are standard diner fare - clean and functional as is the rest of the restaurant. There is a counter with bar stools for regulars or singles who want to watch the action. The grill area is glassed in and the air conditioning works well. The dining room is always pleasantly cool even on hot days.

On a recent weeknight the boyfriend and I were looking for somewhere close, casual and different from the usual destinations to grab dinner He has been here a few times before and always likes it so we decided to give it a shot. The environment and ambience is nothing special here, it's just a casual no frills family diner type of place. They are open for breakfast lunch and dinner and they offer a wide variety of items on each menu for reasonable prices I ordered the grilled chicken platter which included a side Greek salad, grilled chicken with a side of tzatziki, green beams and Greek rice with a side of tomato sauce. He got the gyro platter on top of rice with a salad For starters, the salad dressing is a creamy type of Greek dressing, not like the more vinaigrette type sauce I was expecting. The salad was simple and was lacking toppings like olive and peppers, but the scoop of potato salad in the bottom was tasty and definitely redeemed the salad. We were also given a bread basket, but it was just sliced italian bread with butter. While that was a tasty accompaniment to our salad, pita would have been better. When my dinner arrived it was a very large portion, plenty of food for even someone with a big appetite. Flavor was good with everything but the tomato sauce was too tomato-y if that makes any sense. My bf liked his meal too. The gyro meat was tasty! Throughout the whole meal the service was very friendly and thorough. Both our server and an assistant worked together to check in and make sure we were satisfied The prices here can't be beat for the amount of food and the warm, friendly service. Only $20 for dinner for 2 and we walked out stuffed and happy. Even though its nothing fancy, it was a satisfying experience and I like to support local family places, so ill come back again. I'd like to come to try breakfast next time. By the way, they open at 7 am 7 days a week for those wondering. Worth a try!!

One of my favorite restaurants in the whole area. Nothing special, just a family owned greek diner in a strip plaza, but the food is like my family's home cooking and prices are good for the big portion sizes. My family rarely goes out to eat but when they do I bring them here. We all like the Greek salad and the gyro platter with rice, tzatziki sauce and green beans. They are option for breakfast and lunch too but I've only been here for dinner. Worth stopping by when you're in the area and the craving from home cooked greek is calling.

I've eaten here twice when my friend has asked me to join her for breakfast. Their breakfast menu is huge. I can't believe anyone could NOT find something to their taste. Both times, I've had the Akropol Omelette with feta, gyro meat, tomato & onion and the Greek Omelette with spinach & feta. Both were delicious! I also love the hash browns as well! Our server was most friendly and attentive. I met the owner, hit her with my fluent Greek and thanked her for the great breakfast! She thought I was Greek! I'm going to come back for lunch just to try their Greek dishes. I have a feeling they will cause flashbacks to my 6 years in Greece! Opa!

My go to for local eating. This family owned restaurant beats the chains any day of the week!

Been going here for more years than I care to admit for my age. Great food and pretty friendly staff. While the dated decor and diner-style atmosphere may discourage some of the more "sophisticated" among you, you'd be missing out. Pastitsio & Dolmades are authentic and delicious. Greek salads are chock-full of fresh ingredients. And, should you not have a taste for Greek food, there are plenty of other options. I highly recommend this one for a good meal if you're in the neighborhood.

Good food, great service, and a comfortable atmosphere. When we sat, I had planned to have gyros here. However, I noticed the beef tip over noodles special. I could not decide. So the server brought a beef tip over to allow me to taste it. It was excellent, but I was really in the mood for gyros. I ordered the gyro platter off the dinner menu with half rice and half fried onions. The dish was excellent, and I would order it again. Definitely worth a trip to this restaurant.

This is one of my favorite mom-and-pop restaurants! Great for breakfast, lunch or dinner. While the greek stuff (greek salad, gyros, etc.) is great, so is the plain old American food. There is a great variety on the menu, including classics like London Broil, Country Fried Steak, Cheeseburgers and more. My family really likes breakfast there too. Its just your standard breakfast fare, but its well done and very reasonably priced. This is definitely a local type place -- check it out.

  • Katie N.

For the price, it's worth a visit. If this is the best gyro you have ever had I pity you. Real gyro is lamb and delicious, this was that cheap lamb/ beef combo that is pressed into a tube shape and shaved. Let's get down to business. The good: Friendly staff, good food, great prices, good ambiance and everything was clean. The bad: Typical short-order Greek food. It's good but it lacks that 'something-special'. The weird: The waitresses had lunch right by us while we were eating. They remained attentive but I just felt odd eating next to someone who kept an eye on my tea level in case she had to jump up for a refill. The Skinny: I would go here more often if I lived closer. While good, it isn't the best I've ever had by far. However, the prices more than make up for it.

This is a great little family owned Greek restaurant. The food is inexpensive and plentiful (both times I've eaten here I've had to get to go boxes) and GOOD. The service is beyond good it's trite to say but they really do just treat you like family. I've had the Gyro Platter friends have had Sovoluki (pretty sure I spelled that wrong) Tsetzeki (argh I can't spell in Greek). Look I can't write the food but I can eat it and it's good. Go get some. One SMALL complaint. The Greek Salad they serve is excellent. And they bring your a jar of salad dressing. . . . There is NO WAY to pour the dressing out of that jar without it dripping down the jar when you're done it is simply not possible. It's not affecting my review but it is annoying.

This is a family owned Greek restaurant/diner that serves unremarkable food at very good prices. It is an excellent choice for breakfast, The wait staff is efficient and very cordial. The place is kept very clean. It is one of my favorites.

You had to know I was going to tell somebody. I went in and placed a to-go order. I am from the DC originally and we used to call them carryouts. But I digress. I was pleasant and that is all that is required I am finding out. So why come the nice lady packed my food with care and concern like I was her sister. She introduced me to the staff and I knew this was the real deal. The food in this region would have to be fresh and on point because the competition is stiff. I always mix up my orders to stretch the kitchen and they stretched me. Everything was expertly prepared. Hey (lady, real name to be inserted later), why you treat me like that? Why come you gave me extra baklava, are you trying to make me love you?

Key lime pie is absolutely heavenly! We eat here for breakfast and it's good food at a very affordable price. Very yummy!

I have been eating at Acropol Inn since birth and my husband and I still stop in from time to time when we want a really good gyro. The gyro is the best I have had! That being said I'm not really a fan of anything else on the menu. The Greek specialties are decent, but the American food I would never order again. Their salad dressing is also great, but unfortunately the salads never look to fresh. The lettuce is often yellowish instead of green and has been completely wilted before. But if you cover it in dressing then you will love it. The interior leaves A LOT to be desired. On our most recent trip it looks like they have gotten some new staff. Our waitress was extremely friendly, which I haven't always experienced in the past. In conclusion, don't stray from a gyro and maybe get it to go and you will be happy.

I have loved this place for a while but my last time there they changed the plate size on the Usual Gyro Salad I order. It was 3/4 the usual size. I don't mind as I always took extra home and I understand with this economy we all have to tighten our belts, etc. However when I asked about it I was made to feel like it was always that way. This was by the manager I am sure the owners would have said of course wouldn't you if you were in our shoes.

    (5)
  • Tina G.

The people are nice, service is good. If you're going for ambiance this is not the place to go. It's a mom/pop/family place with great gyros's. The meat is tasty, the portion sizes are very generous. I am a travel nurse and am certainly going to miss this place when I leave.

I've eaten at Acropol Inn with various family and friends about ten times since finding it 4 years ago, usually with good satisfaction. Anyone visiting it for it's nearly 5-star rating should realize it's a simple, family-run Greek restaurant/grill. If you're looking for fancy or upscale or fine dining, look elsewhere. On the other hand, if you're looking for usually tasty food served up quickly by a very friendly wait staff, you'll probably enjoy it. This place seems to make absolutely no effort to find new customers or any tourist trade, as I've never seen a single ad for it anywhere, in spite of it's being near such a large Greek community like Tarpon Springs. But given it's usually full every time I've been there, I'm guessing they don't need any bigger crowds. I had a friend bring me there, and I've taken others there. Nothing better than word-of-mouth advertising. It's located in a small strip mall just off the Sunset Point exit on US 19 N (County Rd 576). The atmosphere is simple, and the nondescript storefront means you could drive by this place for years and never notice it. It's a good size place with probably a dozen booths along the left side and about 20 tables from front to back. To the right is the kitchen/grill, with stools to eat at the counter. While the decor is nothing fancy, it's always clean and well-kept. The wait staff has always been extremely good, with very friendly folks that pay very close attention to your needs. You'll find a basket of fresh Greek bread on your table quickly before your meal, and even during busy times they seem to be able to get around to your table regularly to check in on you. But the food is what your there for, right? I've usually had good success with my favorite meal, the gyro platter, a massive stack of very tasty, sliced gyro meat on sliced or grill onions. And very large portions are the standard here. If you can finish one of their entrees you're a better man than I am, as usually I take home a box with enough for one or two leftover meals. In 10 visits I've had 9 excellent meals, with only one entree that didn't satisfy me (can't remember what it was, as it was forgettable). But the folks I dine there with are much more adventurous, and have always enjoyed their meals, including a number of their well-priced daily specials. What I've always found extraordinary is their homemade "soup of the day". Monday is a wonderful potato and cabbage soup in a light tomato broth, which I had never even eaten before, but quickly became my favorite....I wish every day was Monday! Friday is clam chowder, and I've found it quite good as well. Hint: get the bowl or soup, not the cup size portion, as you'll likely want every drop. For the quality and quantity, the prices of all their dishes are very low in my opinion, with lots of entrees in the $7-10 range. If you set your expectations for what Acropol Inn simply is, you'll likely be very satisfied with your visit. Atmosphere: 4 Service: 5 Food: 4 Value: 5

We stopped here late Sunday one night. The service was friendly and food was good. My wife loved the gyro. I had the lamb salad and had enough for lunch the next day. The baklava was delicious. Definitely worth visiting.

  • Athena C.

The food came in ENORMOUS portions. One plate was enough for a family of 5. Everything had sauce on it. I do not know what part of Greece this food is authentic to but it was not from anywhere in Greece I was in. We drove from Clearwater Beach because the reviews were so stellar but OMG, not what we expected. When I think of Greek food I think of grilled, fresh and then the standard greek dishes like Moussaka. The saganaki was OK so they get two stars. However, this place is not for anyone with a sophisticated palate. We went here because of the stellar yelp reviews. Lesson learned know your demographics.

  • Steve P.

Reviews that make you go hmmmmm, what did I miss? I jumped at the opportunity to dine based on the Yelp Reviews...when I repeatedly see a 5 Star its something to get excited about. This is a good restaurant serving good food. I have been to Greece, several Greek Towns--college roommate from that region so I know authentic. Nothing wrong with Acropol--but its not a 5 Star. They do lots of things well, I prefer quality vs. quantity. The atmosphere of family is real, wait staff very attentive and fluid. Asked wait person my standard--"what is the absolute best dish on your menu." 99% of the time I go with it, her reply was gyro salad--as mentioned in other reviews, dressing and quantity. Lots of lettuce, one olive, one peppercini, two pieces of cucumber, tomatoes-not good, onion slices included the uneatable hard part of the onion...but I had a load of gyro meat and enough dressing to bath in. So, good but I still don't give them 5 star, I will go back and try another dish and follow up. Ciao!

  • Dave S.

This is more of a lunch and/or local diner. It's certainly not a fine dining resturant. I like the Greek salad, I've ordered it to go 4 times over a 2 month period. The salad for 2 comes with bread, butter and anchovies on the side. They screwed up the order 3 of the 4 times, no bread, butter and anchovies once, no extra potato salad I paid extra for once and no anchovies once. 25% of the time they got the order right. Not worth the aggravation.

Awesome authentic Greek food. we came in and was advised by the waitress the portion was large and unless we want to take some home then order one entree. We got the Acropol special platter that comes with a delicious Greek salad that has potatoes salad. the player comes with 5 samples, each was delicious. I love the gyro the best, it was fresh, hot, and crispy. put the white sauce on it to enhance the taste. They gave us a generous amount of gyro meat too :). The waitress was friendly and the service was fast. We're so full from just one entree!!!

  • Vivian A.

We went there based on the Yelp reviews. Both my husband and I were disappointed. The food portions were large but the taste was not at all what we expected. The fish was not fresh and the string beans tasted as if they had just come from a can.

  • Stephanie N.

The best Greek restaurant in the area hands down. To die for home-made Greek salad dressing that you can't find anywhere else(I've tried). Combine this with the ample portions of their simple Greek salad and yummy potato salad and you're in heaven. Also have generous portions for the delicious Gyros. Other dishes are alright, but you MUST go for the salad and gyro. DOn't bother trying anything else.

The first good thing about them is they have great service. I have been going there every Sunday after church. My waitress basically knows me and what I usually order. The employees are extremely friendly. Next the food is really good. No matter what time you go, the food is really good. It's not all Greek food either. They have a variety of items that are very good. Also, the prices are affordable. This is a fantastic place to eat and I recommend this place for sure.

Early evening visit on my long way home. Saw the reviews and ratings. Expected more; received less. The waitress was nice and she was attentive. The food portion was perfect. The food was a disappointment. Ordered Greek salad and Chicken Souvlaki Platter. Chicken Souvlaki Platter was ok and it was better than the very disappointing salad. Will not return.

I was not sure if I should try this place because no one yelp about for over a year. I am glad I went TWICE!!!!! The wait staff are awesome. They have the best Greek salad in town. The price was very reasonable and quality of food is excellent. Wish we have that in Chicago! We ordered the Acropol fish, it was so buttery and juicy. My sister order the greek sampler with 6 things in there. OMG, for $13, you get 2 lbs of GREAT food. I ordered Lamb spared ribs and she order beef shih Kabob cooked to med rare. They were both juicy and very tasty.

First time here. Smallish place in an old strip mall. Looks like it has been here a while and there were a lot of regulars dining. Had a Gyro that was excellent. It consisted of quality gyro meat, tomatoes, white onion slices and thick tzatziki sauce. They were just wrapping up breakfast the Sunday I went (they offer traditional American type breakfasts in addition to the Greek fare) In addition to ample table spaces they have a counter with a half-dozen chairs you can belly up to. Great for eating alone as I sometimes like to do,

A great place for a Delicious meal. Gyro the way I remember it to be in NY. Full menu full of choices. Something for everyone. Our favorite Breakfast stop. You can't be the service. We have been eating here for 20 yrs. Always consistent!

Greek Cuisine

Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.

Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.

For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.
