Excellent happy hour choices and great service. Ordered dinner and it was at our table within 10 mins. Highly recommend and plan on returning myself.

We like going here with our Goldens, sitting out on the patio. The food is decent and a bit more expensive than in town. But, you're on Clearwater Beach with lots of tourists so the atmosphere is great.Best of all...parking out back is free.

Food not consistent....had best reuben rolls ever....then had the worst on our next visit :(

Our group liked this place as an alternative to seafood. Standard American food; we had the nachos, burger and cheesesteak. All good. The kids macaroni was $7 which is rather steep, but the service was good and the owner or manager gave both kids balloons.

since I went there 5 times in a week it deserves a decent review. Great bar with a large diverse menu. One odd thing (maybe good depending if you are a dog person) They are very dog friendly. Usually a dog in there while you are eating. I saw one group of people bring NINE small dogs to dinner with them. A lot of TVs if you are looking to watch any games.

We went here for dinner on a Thursday night and it was pretty busy. "Seat yourself" is a great idea. Typical bar scene and food selection. We ordered bbq pulled pork sandwich with fries and the Cuban sandwich with sweet potato fries. The pulled pork was okay.. Not bad but definitely not the best. It was good for a bar. Fries were good. The Cuban was good but they just put to much mustard on the sandwich - kind of an overload. Oh and the sandwich is enormous! The sweet potato fries come with brown sugar and honey on the side were good. And for dessert we got the key lime pie.. Let's just say that "put the icing on the cake" very good. Service was good. Very laid back. Prices very reasonable too.. Under $30 for all three things.

Went on a Saturday for drinks, it was very busy, a mix between locals and tourist. Met some interesting people and had the best night people watching. Bartenders were attentive and drinks were fairly priced. Had a live band that we enjoyed. Will definitely hang here again.

Really cool environment. We went on a Friday night and they had live music. I got stuck on the 80's Galaga machine thy had. The only problem I had was a small mix up with the beer order when they changed the keg. When the second cup came back it still tasted like mixed beer. The atmosphere was good enough that I forgot about the mix up.

After a day at the beach, the Brown Boxer was just off the beach and with their seat yourself policy, we took one of the 2 open booths. The service was fast and friendly. Pretty basic. There were 6 of us and we got a variety if things. I recommend the fried pickles as an app. Very good. The chicken finger platter was enough for 2!!! The chicken sandwich was great but we weren't informed of the uncharged for a condiment side to add to the flavor. Sweet potato fries were also on their game. Where I feel it feel short was the flatbread. But all in all it was a good experience and I would go back.

Lame bar food and an obnoxious loud drunken crowd all three times I've visited. Meh. TV's are nice.

We stopped for drinks and dinner on our last night in Clearwater Beach. Food was good. Service was all over the place. We started out with one bartender and ended up getting waited on by several others. Each time we ordered a drink, we had to flag a person down or we sat with our glasses empty until someone came over. To be fair it was busy at the bar. Would I come back again, yes. Not sure why the bartenders don't have sections that they take care of to eliminate the problem.

By far our favorite bar on Clearwater Beach. Our "go-to" place. Being a local, it's hard to find a place on the beach that you actually want to go to that isn't too touristy. It's cheap (bonus!) plus they have awesome happy hour deals that we take advantage of weekly. Just beware of the spring break rush. Oh, and they have the best wings I've ever eaten. Order them like this: naked, spicy teriyaki, with blue cheese and extra celery.

Bummed because of the service. It was a popping Saturday night and I went there for a birthday celebration. It was a loud bar scene, which was to be expected and no biggie. We had approximately 15 people in our party. Needless to say we were all on separate tabs so I wanted to be proactive and clarified that with her from the beginning. I specifically said we will all pay for our own drinks and shots. We were all ordering drinks and shots and our server was fine with taking the order without writing them down and bringing us the correct drinks. The issue came when it was time to cash out. The bills were not correct and a few of the ladies that were with our party left before the rest of us so a couple of got stuck paying for them. Not cool, especially because I gave her a heads up.

If you enjoy great drinks, live music, and the best wings you ever had then this is the place for you!!!y self my parents wife and two kids ate wings till full a few alcoholic drinks some pink lemonades and some fries. The wings aren't well seasoned if at all but are seriously cooked to perfection! Entire bill $33 can't beat that!!! Waitresses are beautiful n very friendly n provide a tlo notch service on checking on us, topping off drinks ect...

Stopped in here with family to grab a bite to eat before heading out on the Captain Memo's pirate ship. It was around 1130-12pm, place was empty and they forgot one of party's entree, a cheeseburger and fries which they subsequently took another 20 mins to make. How long does it take to make?

Fun place and open late! We stopped here for drinks. There was seating outside and live music inside. The nachos were delicious and the service was great. Beer and liquor selection and price was on par for the area.

It is what it is. It's a sports bar. The food is an afterthought. Cold beer. Nice waitress. Lots of televisions to catch the game.

Our hotel was on Mandalay Ave. and this seemed to be one of the few bar options that was more of a bar than a sit-down restaurant. The atmosphere is very casual and laidback. You can show up in shorts and a tee shirt.. there were even people in cover-ups. The one bar was set up so that one side of it was outside. I liked that we could sit at the bar and still be outside. It was perfect for happy hour.

Service was very very slow. We had a party of 10. I had the fish tacos which were very bland and needed a sauce or something - but the waitress never came back so I couldn't ask for anything. Also had the bay fries with the cheese sauce - we had a party of 10 and only ate half because they were not good. Cheesesteak was horrible. Grouper Wrap was good. Lots of choices on the menu for both food and drink.

well actually this is a review for the brown boxer on south beach on gulf blvd not the one on mandalay but there is no yelp for that location...(the brown boxer on mandalay is a 4 or 5 in my opinion) .... mine is long so settle in... when we were here this winter i went in one day at lunch ... seen the owner jay... i said we are coming with 4 other people tonight .. can we sit outside.. jay is a great guy and said of course you can ... so i thank him and leave... at 630 we arrived back that night ... no tables out back on the porch .. i seen the manager and said we need 6 on the back porch ... he said no tables out there tonight .. kareoke.. now its 630pm... no people .. no kareoke... but yet he couldnt put 2 tables back outside for us ... so one of the servers seen me.. said these are very good customers and we can get them a table. he proceeded to get us 2 tables and 6 chairs outside.. took him less then 2 minutes.. so we ate and everythign was then fine .. no thanks to the manager.. so next day we go back to the south beach boxer... now this is spring break time.... we were told they were open at 11am during spring break... so we go in at 1115.. manager is working on a light fixture just as we went in ... he said not open yet... i said i was told 11am ... he says nope.. noon.. maybe 1145 if we get the kitchen open early .. so rather then wait 30 or 45 minutes for him to decide we leave... that differnt frriends wanted to try "the nex boxer"... we didnt say a word about the past 2 times there we jsut went.. we sit out on the porch .. 5 minutes. no server.. 10 minutes .. i go in ask the bartender is there outside service... she says oh yeah i will get someome.. 5 more minutes pass.. we have now been there 15 minutes.. we all get up and leave.. that was in march ... 3 bad experiences within 24 hours.. so today im walking by the "new boxer" i think well we havnt been there for 3 months maybe it improved.. so i go in about 1045 knowing they wouldnt be open yet.. i see the girl bartender.. i said what time do you open.. she said well we are supposed to open at 11 but it usualy about 11:15 until the kitchen is ready.. a guy walks out carrying the sign they put out at gulf blvd.. he said yeah its best to figure 1115 to be safe.. i laughed and left... thought probably better not to go at all.. my wife picks me up from my walk.. i said lets go to the boxer on mandalay... by this time its about 1115.. we get to the boxer (we jsut got back in town and have not been there since march) .. a rude security guard in the parking lot that we have used for years to go to the boxer told us this is beach parking only ... i thought he was kidding.. for years the boxer and other tenants have fought to keep the beach goers out and from parking there . suddenly its for beach parkers only? he said yeah boxer lost their lease on the parking lot so you cant park here any longer.. go find a spot somewhere else.. then he returned to his personal call on his cell phone... rather than find a spot ... we left... my wife had said for a year they are growing TOOO FASSST .. they are trying ot open too many places.. when they only had the one everything was 5 stars... now they have 5 or more places and seems no one in in charge and things are a mess.. what a shame .. great food.. nice people... but the left hand never knows what the right hand is doing any longer and the south beach managers dont seem to even know what time they open.... shame

I was very impressed! My family and I went here while on vacation, and debated on whether or not it was going to be the right place for us (2 kids; 2and 5 y/o). We were able to sit were we wanted (chose outside) on the patio. Our meal was delicious and not that expensive. What I was most impressed with, was our Waiter. He was very kind, patient, and helpful. Most places like this that I've been too, the staff wont "work" for their tip when they see 2 kids. They believe its gonna be a hassle and don't want to work their butts off for a 10-15% tip. Our waiter was so great! He never once showed frustration, or became annoyed. Our 2 year old was, well, a 2 year old. Haha. The kida were even given a balloon. We were so impressed, we left him a 25% tip. Definitely recommend this place!

Slightly torn on this one. Had a great experience yesterday watching world cup semi. Wings were good, service was very good and ton of tvs. Today, back for other semi and kind of the opposite experience service wise. Don't get me wrong, they're busy, but our server is crushed right now and no other servers seem to be. Not sure if she took too many tables, but the manager has waited on us for half our orders. He's great though. Still wouldn't be able to tell someone not to come here. Cool place.

    (3)
  • Marissa H.

Never ate the food but good selection of beers, tons of TVs playing all the games, quick service & decently priced with a pretty big menu. It gets packed quickly so if you want a table, get there early or prepare to wait/stand.

I'll admit--I was hung over and starving when my husband and our BFF, Josh stumbled in here from the beach. I figured, "Hey, I just need something fried to settle my stomach." And it still wasn't good! Service was ok. Food was awful--the cheese sticks Josh ordered weren't even done. To quote hubs, "How do you mess up fried cheese?" Ha! Margaritas were weak. Our tab was over $70. Avoid this place!

As we were walking back to our car after lunch, we decided to go for a drink at The Brown Boxer. Lured in by happy hour specials, we sat down for a beer and a cheap vodka cranberry. While it was no top shelf liquor, it was okay for the price. The crowd was mostly interested in the Marlins game and there were a handful of over imbibed patrons. With a sports bar feel and an open window for the Gulf Breeze, it's a place to get rowdy and hang out with the boys (or girls, but it just felt more masculine). Good drink specials and a casual atmosphere where you can let loose.

  • Tony G.

Terrible service. The bartenders seem to enjoy making you wait. One of the worst bars I have been to in my entire life as far as service. Very drunk people there. I was sitting by a couple of police officers who were having dinner and they too were rolling their eyes at the patrons. Most were so drunk they could not stand up or even carry on a decent conversation. I have met some rude bartenders in my time but these guys take the cake. Avoid this place at all costs!

Wow! Love this spot an not just b I have a brown boxer lol! Well he is brindle but...ok so honey BBQ wings wooo yes! So meaty and big you can't eat them all! And check this out got in on lunch special 10 wings $5 massive wings!!! Also we got the fish tacos grilled and seasoned with sour cream lettuce pico and a very nice mild salsa! Yum! Must try. We sat on patio with great view of Mandalay for people watching and TVs for sports watching too :)

Good food, great atmosphere, friendly service and amazing happy hour specials. This was one of our favorite finds in Clearwater Beach. Fun place for vacationers and locals alike. Highly recommend the chicken sandwiches - juicy and covered in yummy cheesy. The fish tacos were also a great find.

  • Samantha K.

Bland food and did not enjoy the service by far other great places on the beach to enjoy. I was very disappointed by cold food and warm drinks. I would not come back. The atmosphere was great but the poor food did not make up for it. Especially in Clearwater with all of the restaurants with great services and history this place needs to step it up. The crab soup came out cold and was not good. Waitress took forever to come back to our table or any.

Seems to be the only happening place in Clearwater at night so we ended up there 2 nights in a row. We were there on business and the guy at Walgreen's recommended that we check it out. Service is a bit delayed and not that friendly. Drinks seem a bit watered down both nights that we were there. Attracts a wide range of age groups but then again it seemed like there was no where else to go.

So I asked my friend for the closest dive bar for happy hour, and without blinking, she pointed me to the Brown Boxer on Mandalay Ave (across our hotel from Sandpearl). It looked like the place was packed with a combination of locals, tourists and the after-work watering hole. It was around 6:30pm, so we caught the tail-end of happy hour ($1.75 select draft + 20 wings for $10). I really wasn't in the mood of dressing up for dinner, and was craving for greasy food - so we planted ourselves at this place for about an hour, grazing over appetizers and beer. The fish tacos were decent, and the fried shitake mushrooms were also quite good. Our server was nice, and checked on us often. It seemed that the place had a lot of "regulars", so I always take that as a good sign. Overall, I enjoyed our time at the Brown Boxer, and would visit again the next time we are in the area.

Excellent! Fun place. Great food and great happy hour specials. Even pet friendly so we were able to enjoy our meal on the patio with our dogs. Never disappointing.

This place was highly recommended. It was very good although the chocolate covered pretzel shots were just mediocre but definitely at least a double shot. I had the pork BBQ. It was pretty good! Didn't come with a bun just toast. Potato salad was good along with the onion rings. Pretzels as appetizers were pretty good! The band playing that night was very good & entertaining as well. Definitely recommend!

When I go to a pub restaurant, I generally don't expect much from the food. The Brown Boxer met my low expectations for food quality. I ordered the grilled chicken wrap(how can you screw up a chicken wrap, I thought). There was zero seasoning on the scant amount of chicken, and my wrap had no cheeses, just a few pieces of lettuce and some tomato. Pretty bad. My brother ordered the Cuban; large portion, but he described the sandwich as "eh..". The calamari wasn't bad, nor was the soft pretzel with cheese sauce. The atmosphere is nice, and there's a good selection on tap. But I wouldn't go there for food, unless you like to eat cardboard quality food.

Okay; it's difficult or almost unfair to judge a spot when you stroll in on a Monday evening like we did this trip....not exactly a traditional day for merriment. However, I've been here in the past when it's rocking and the atmosphere is fantastic. Slightly subdued when my friend and I checked it out Monday evening but actually better fit what we were looking for; I wanted to be able to converse and not have to shout over the din. The bartenders are awesome, attentive and do a good job of managing interaction with us patrons. They have a Cloud Jukebox that takes debit cards with access to hundreds and hundreds of good party songs across a strong range of genres. It was fun picking out tunes to set the vibe for the Brown Boxer crew. They offer live music there during the week but like I said.....it was a Monday. Ended up migrating to their outdoor patio out front to grab a bite to eat; flat bread pizza and chicken strips seemed like a safe bet and was much better than expected. OK, we were a little buzzed so almost anything would have been acceptable at that time of the night! I would definitely go back to Brown Boxer.

wow we are locals and I can truly say this place has awful food and the service is terrible. Terrible is being nice.....manager rude and waiter was the worst. Do not go their, The manager was rude and we had 10 potential locals with us and we all agreed this place is not nice and we all will not go back . Go across the street to Clear Sky DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE I have now told all the local hotels to take them off their list of potential restarants, They are rude , over priced and the food was not good. Please DO NOT go their as the food is not good and does not represent us in Clearwater Beach................................Their are better places to go,,,,,,,,,,,

A great sports bar right across from the beach. Plenty of TVs, friendly service, good grouper nuggets. Open air and you can bring your dog! Plus they usually have Pacifico on draft.

    (4)
  • Chris T.

We actually stopped in here twice during our vacation to CB. The drinks were affordable (stay away from the cheap wine though) and it was nice to see some sports and listen to some good music for a change. The apps we had were very good (good peel n eats!). I wouldn't make a meal of it, but it's a great happy hour or late night spot on the strip.

  • Danan C.

I waited at my table for 10 minutes before anybody even showed up. That being said, it's a Sunday afternoon, there is no hostess seating people, and its a beach restaurant. I ordered chips, salsa and queso to start. The queso was canned nacho cheese. Bleh. The ahi tuna salad was quite decent though. My only complaint was the tiny mound of seaweed salad I got. Over all, probably better for their bar food which I haven't tried.

  • Jim K.

Grabbed the fish and chips after a late flight and can ride in. Crispy beer battered fish, good chunks of meat, but lots of dough and it was a bit too mushy for my taste. Comes with your standard fries, McDonald's-ish tartar sauce and fresh slaw.

I had dinner here for the first time a couple weeks ago with hubby. The food was great! We shared some appetizers for dinner and split a piece of the amazing chocolate mousse cake for dessert. The night we were here, it was rainy, but it was still busy. They had a live band playing and I loved the atmosphere. I look forward to going back again and more of their delicious food and the fun surroundings!

fun pub spot on the strip at clearwater. sports on TV's all around, billiard tables, and good bar food. Large square bar, table seating, or booths. Not uncommon to see an occasional VIP who is staying at the Sandpearl across the street. Great group spot and prices are fair.

Terrible experience.....plates and silverware were filthy had to send them back. We eat out a lot and worst I have seen in years. We ordered Philly cheese steak and it was terrible and way over priced. Will never return.

They have a great happy hour, the best on the beach. The bartenders and servers are very nice and pretty attentive. The wings (hot) are a little too hot so I suggest you order them (mild) even if you order your wings hot anywhere else. They also have pool tables and dart boards. Great atmosphere.

I'm torn on whether I should give this 3 or 4 stars. My husband and I were on vacation, and stayed with family who has lived on the beach for almost a decade. Before hubby got in town, this was the first place I hit for happy hour. I was told it used to be an old Outback Steakhouse. Looking at the layout, I didn't doubt it. We had a couple of happy hour drinks and the price was right. The service was average or maybe even below par, but it was clean and busy with a bunch of locals I was introduced to. Everyone was having fun on a Monday. We returned for lunch a few days later and I ordered the fried grouper sandwich at market price. After finding out what market price was at various restaurants, this was the cheapest. The thing was huge! But, it seemed like it was fried about 90 seconds too long, which is the do-or-die time for fish in my opinion. The fries were not hand-cut, but frozen. But the kicker on these frozen crinkle cuts was that they were fried perfectly. Not overdone like some of the frozen sorts you find in a typical bar food atmosphere. There was a ton of them, not that I needed or ate all of them. The best part was our service. McKenna, our superb server, must have ESP and a desire to do it right and efficiently. We just had waters (not a money maker) with our lunch and she kept us filled up and was happy to help. We finally returned a few nights later to get away from the tourist infiltrated "Crab Festival" and ended up there for a coconut shrimp appetizer and to split a burger. No tourists, just the locals were there and we had met a few of them throughout the week of introductions. We had a blast hanging with the locals and felt in-the-know to be at the local place whilst all the tourist were standing in lines for food and drinks in hot parking lots. Although we came for Crab Fest, we stayed for some local fun. By the way, the burger was the best thing I had at the Brown Boxer. Yummm. Coconut shrimp? Naw, not there. Again, over cooked.

Would only recommend if you want some watered down drinks. My crown was definitely watered down. We have out of state IDs, so they must have thought we were tourists. We won't be back.

This is our favorite sports bar. Super staff. Clean ,reasonable pricing, friendly staff. Willing to put on my teams on any tv!. The owner Nancy is extremely customer service oriented. We walk here from near Shepards and it's well-worth the trip. Good portions of vg food. Nice clientele. No riff-raff.

Nice location, good service, Clams were not good, cheeseburger was pretty good. They allow dogs outside - which is a huge plus!

If you like sports, this place is for you. We ate lunch here while waiting for our hotel room to be ready. My husband and I both got the large caesar salad and a side of fries. The fries portion was enormous! I got my son a side of cheese sticks and he helped us eat the fries. Everyone else at the table got meaty stuff and said it was all good. We watched a rugby game on the ginormous flat screen while we waited for our food. Decent food, fast service.

A must place to stop in, when you are in Clearwater Beach area. Not that it screams anything memorable, but it attracts the best of folks in the crowds that come in. Bartenders are cool, drinks are affordable. Guests are awesome!

  • Paul M.

This is the latest addition to the restaurants on Mandalay Avenue in Clearwater Beach and its a success. Although you'd probably call the BB a sports bar (as it has 20+ flat screens and every sports package imaginable) its also a family restaurant with a vibrant bar scene. There is outdoor dining, two pool tables, darts and video games. The service was attractive, friendly and attentive. The food was quite good for bar food and the nacho platter was a revelation. The place is drawing a nice crowd and you should check it out.

  • Shawna K.

If you feel the need for a break from a beach themed bar at the beach, scoot right on over to the Brown Boxer. With their open air restaurant, sports bar type atmosphere, pool tables, family tables in the back, and rockin' bands late night. The BB has something for just about anyone. One of those places where nothing in particular really stands out but you have great time and still keep coming back!

  • Nicole F.

Pretty cool place to come and hang out for drinks. They play good music on the box and they have pool tables and dart boards. Food is ok too. They have an outdoor patio as well. I probably wouldn't come here to eat, but a great place to hang low with friends for catching up and drinking.

LOVE THIS PLACE!! Used to come here all of the time when I lived in Clearwater Beach. By far the best place on the beach to get food besides Frenchys Rockaway Grill which comes in a close second. Anyways this place has so many great things about it. The bartenders are awesome, especially Steve! They have a plethora of TV's and can always find the exact game you are looking for. Excellent Happy hour Mon-Friday! And then there is the food! BEST WINGS I HAVE EVER HAD. Have not been able to find a place even close to comparing to Brown Boxer in Cali. They need to open a Brown Boxer out in San Diego! Also, the nachos are always loaded and never disappoint and the Pretzels and Beer Cheese are a must have! A great place to people watch and plenty of outdoor seating. Excellent atmosphere and great for any kind of sports but especially NFL Football. Pitcher deals and a $500 dollar raffle every Sunday! When I make it back to Florida this will be the first place I visit!

  • Alex P.

Been here a few times the major plus is the parking lot right behind the place. Food is good, I had Greek salad and fresh OJ. The service was slow but I think that is because the server was in training and we were a group of 7 sitting outside with our boxer pup.

This place is a pretty good restaurant/ bar with nice prices concidering the beach front location. I would say they have a pretty simple menu. Only one burger on it but the burger was really good. Friendly service and great happy hour prices. Definitely a place to check out in the Clearwater beach area.

Well I didn't have time to come in and eat so I ordered the chicken tender platter to go with ranch and honey mustard, fries, tater tots. It's a good portion for $13 and looked like it was going to taste really good. But everything tasted the same. (Like sh*t) The tenders, fries and tater tots tasted like a grease pot. They were not seasoned even with salt. The ranch was terrible watery mess and the honey mustard was too. I could have at least ate this food with some descent ranch or honey mustard. But since the dipping sauces sucked I ended up dumping all the food. It's a shame. But for all the calories in that fried meal i would have to at least enjoy the taste to eat it. This place looked okay inside... Two bars plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. But I'll never come back here even for a drink. Food sucks. Bland and awful.

Great bar that I ran into driving around looking for something to eat. Live music an dance floor. seems to have an okay mix ages. It's more of dive bar (good dive) than a dance club.

This was our first time here, parents have been here once before for breakfast. Great food and Amanda was a excellent server and her food suggestions were on point. My parents just moved here to the area and I know for sure we will be back. The Cuban sandwich was huge and really really good; I paired it with the onion ring side and they were great as well. We also ordered pulled pork sandwich, Philly cheese steak sandwich and grouper wrap...highly recommended all of it. Can't wait to come back.

The layout is great, plenty of seating, open windows, outdoor patio, and so many big screens to watch games on! In my short visit this past Wednesday there, I can say that they have a huge selection of the typical bar food, which is always great, but also drink specials. That night, there was a live performance, and the duo was actually amazing! Not sure how often they have live bands, but if they were there on a Wednesday, it must be often. Ps the option to choose music via a Juke box is also very fun :) (Loved the tater tots!)

Food is not good... Got the chicken finger platter with French fries and ranch dressing.. The food tasted like a grease bomb... There was absolutely no flavor to the chicken or French fries. The ranch dressing is watered down and does not taste like it has any hint of good quality. The interior of the place is dirty. The only upside to this place would seem like it is a place mainly to come drink. I guess after a few beers people get hungry and decide "what the hell I am already here might as well eat where the beer is" and they probably are a tad impaired when they ingest this terrible food. I mean when you are tipsy anything would probably taste better then it actually does without alcohol. If you plan on coming here to eat I would suggest downing about 3-4 beers to help the food go down easier. Other than that don't plan on enjoying what you are ingesting.

Great bar and bar food with plenty of TVs and darts. Bartenders are friendly and laid back beach bar vibe.

The meal was disappointing. Had chicken fried chicken and it had zero flavor. Was like the gravy was just hot milk poured over food. Also had issues with the sides being incorrect and not asking what we wanted as sides. Was excited to try here but left disappointed.

Lots and lots and lots of tourists here but it's a really fun bar. I was here on a Saturday around midnight and it was PACKED, yet I had no problem getting drinks - service was excellent. It's a pretty big place too, indoor/ outdoor connected bar, two large seating areas, and a decent size patio. There was a band playing that night too and they were actually very good. Just a cover band, mostly 80s and 90s, but they were nailing the songs. The food here is nothing special, just your standard bar fare, but if you want to have a great time over drinks, this is a perfect place.

My how things change within a year. Food was pretty good, a lot of staff drama which bled out to the customers and service. Seemed like one girl was busting her but and the others were griping about something from the time we sat without getting service until the time we left. I would love to pass on the name of the girl who was working but she was not our waitress. Brunette with a ponytail wearing tan shorts and a black tank top. Make sure you sit wherever she is serving. A year ago we came here and loved it.

Typical bar spot. I only had a vodka soda and a beer. Did not try the food so I cannot speak to that. The band that night was pretty good. Like that there is outside seating and the windows are open. However I had to leave because the cigarette smoke blows in. I was only visiting the area so not sure if a lot of the bars are like that or not so I did not take that into account with the review. Prices were reasonable- 2 vodka soda and 2 beers with tip was like $30.

The fish spread is an excellent appetizer. Their NY strip steak special was completely awful. So awful, I tried to cut what was supposed to be a medium cooked steak but there was so much fat I couldn't. Also, the steak was rare and rubbery. I sent the entire plate back and did not reorder. Needless to say, the fish spread was a good entree in the end...

After having dinner we needed a good solid pub for drinks, and a snack... this place was it. Decor: Standard pub/sports bar with plenty of TVs that are tuned to whatever sporting event or game is currently occurring. There is plenty of seating, both at the bar, high tops, regular tables, or booths. Bathroom: In the back there is a standard bathroom, clean and inviting. Staff: Our waitress was pretty nice and decently quick with our drinks. She also checked on us just enough, exactly what one would hope. Food/Drinks: They have Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy which is always a sign of a great place! And just when I thought it couldn't get any better I ordered the wings and was blown away. Hands down they are the BEST in Clearwater Beach. Value: Exactly what you would expect for drinks and food at a bar/pub. I would come back in a heartbeat for a Summer Shandy and a couple orders of the wings. This place is awesome.

Great local sports bar. Great service, great location and a menu that I wanted to order just about everything. A bit silly to charge for cup of ice, side of ranch and jalapeños...but it is what it is. Stop by if you're in town...you'll enjoy.

Update: the service has not changed. It took 1.5 hrs for a few drinks and a round of simple appetizers (nachos, mozz sticks, quesadilla). A little ridiculous and they didn't seem to be that busy. One person at our table even went directly to bar to get a drink and came back with a drink in hand within minutes! We were hoping to use our free drink tickets from our previous visit but the server started to tell me she could only do one per ticket. Um, no, we had those free coupons for a reason and our second visit just confirmed our first visit experience. We will not be giving them a third chance due to service issues. After complaining, the server didn't apologize or offer to get a manager...just blamed the kitchen and then slid the check brochures across the table angrily. Very disappointed, would have to talked to a manager but really won't be coming back so free drink tickets will not help the situation. Woild be great place to watch a game if you don't care about time. Instead I suggest waiting for a table at restaurants like frenchys, palm pavilion, cooters, etc.

Staff is nasty and rude. We waited at the bar for almost 45 minutes with no service at all. We ordered drinks which were not made properly. Defiantly would not come to this location again. Try the location by Countryside Mall. Much better service and staff.

Awesome restaurant! Loving Michelle at the outside bar window, gave us great STRONG drinks & food! Since we're here from out of town, we asked for things to do in the area & she told us all the great places to go & see! But just can't beat happy hour from 11-7 right here at the pub with $2.75 well drinks & food specials

Slow service and the food was terrible. I ordered coconut shrimp and I could see the coconut and the shrimp but absolutely no flavor. Even the French fries tasted terrible. No one was on the restaurant and our food took 40 mins to show up. Stay away. Not worth it.

Fun time. French Dip over cooked, but found the Buffalo Chicken sandwich to be amazing when I was eating at the other location. It is so amazing that I will likely be coming back to any and all locations more frequently in the past. This was the first Brown Boxer location I visited. There is one a bit father south on Redington/Madiera local. That location seems a bit bigger and more spread out, it is a self-standing restaurant. This one has a bit more of an urban feelings and a bit more pub-ish and less restaurant-ish. The service was friendly and it was pretty busy for the middle of the day on a Saturday with outside college football season. Not a huge drink selection, but not overly pathetic. I would give a higher rating if there was a better drink selection or if the French Dip had been a bit tastier. Nevertheless, Brown Boxer is A-OK and you will not go wrong if you come here for lunch, dinner, or drinks.

I've been here a few times now and have finally had a chance to try out a few things on the menu. I'm stuck between giving 2 or 3 stars as some things went wrong during our experience. In the past, I've tried the buffalo chicken wrap and fried pickles a few times. The wrap was good, but for being "mild" it was SPICY. I'm not a spicy wimp by any means, but this was a bit too intense for me. The fried pickles are a no go (in my opinion) because the dipping sauce that comes with it has horseradish in it and when I asked to substitute for ranch they were all out of it. Blech. Last night when I ordered the fish tacos, I was thinking it would be a great item to try, considering this restaurant is right on the beach and SHOULD be able to serve up good seafood. I was wrong. The tacos were way too fishy tasting and the sauce that came on top tasted like a tartar-mystery ingredient combo. In my opinion, fish tacos should have a nice spicy or southwest type flavor to them with the seasonings and sauces, but these tasted like straight up not so fresh fish. I've had better tacos in restaurants that were nowhere near the beach, hmm... Our server was friendly and helpful but the restaurant was out of almost everything my friends and I tried to order. My friend wanted a yuengling. The server came back to tell us they were out. Next she tried to order a pinot grigio. Yep, you guessed it, out of that too. Finally settled on a bud light (which was on special for $1.75 drafts until 7 PM, so not a bad deal there). When it came time to order our meals, my friend wanted sweet potato fries with her sandwich. Server came back once again to say they are out of SP fries until next week. What the heck brown boxer! Get it together already. Overall it was a bit of a disappointing experience for me here last night. I'm sure it's inevitable that I will be back here again for the fun of it as my friends like to come down for drinks and live music (which is normally a painfully off key singer) on the weekend, but I would not be likely to eat here again. Come for drinks and fun, not for food.

This is clearly a popular place in town, and one of the few places that doesn't specialize in seafood. It's bar food, plain and simple. We had a salad and the chicken fingers platter, and both were just fine. Not great, not bad - good bar food. I'm sure the chicken fingers would be even better after a few beers! Servings were very generous, and the service was quick and friendly. Even in the middle of the day, the bar area is usually crowded with locals who are enjoying a few beers while watching whatever game is on TV. I wasn't up for going here two days in a row, but if I were a local I'd definitely be back.

The authentic Philly cheesesteak sandwich at the Brown Boxer in Clearwater, Florida If you think of a sports bar, you usually think of just bar food. If you have been to the Brown Boxer in Clearwater, Florida, you know its not your usual sports bar. They have a very extensive menu of culinary delights that will surprise you. The owners, Jay and Jeff are originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and now own 3 Brown Boxer restaurants right here in Pinellas County, Florida. Their signature dish is their authentic Philly cheese steak sandwich and it 'is' awesome. The steak is very tender, mixed with just the right amount of cheese and the roll is nice and crispy. Their menu is quite extensive for a sports bar, and you can enjoy a wide range of entrees, while you can enjoy watching your favorite team play football, baseball, golf, basketball or soccer. We had a foodie event there recently. We started out with Reuben eggrolls. That was a tasty surprise. Here we were expecting to taste something Asian, and it was a mix of tender corned beef, sauerkraut, and melted cheese in an eggroll shell. It was awesome and there weren't any left. I think these are a winner! Then we tasted the chicken quesadilla. There were secret ingredients in them and they were really good. We had several different varieties of naked wings....teriyaki, hot, mild, and bar-b-q that were mouth-watering. They were gone in 5 minutesIf that wasn't enough, we had Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, maple glazed salmon, tender sliced prime rib, and orange chicken...we just loved everything. To top it off, for dessert we had key lime pie, peanut butter pie, and a variety of hard mousse infused with different liquors. The service was wonderful and a great time was had by all!

They put tomatoes on my chicken caeser wrap.. Not just regular tomatoes but the little diced kind that you can't pick out. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! Tomatoes are the most disgusting vile fruit or vegetable or what ever on earth. You can't taste any thing you eat when tomatoes are mixed in the combination. ABSOLUTELY REPULSIVE. Tomatoes are single handedly disgusting and smell so bad. Everything from the color, taste, and texture are just fricked up. Night is ruined. I won't be back.

I was here this past Saturday night for the first time. The place was packed but the bars seemed to be on top of things. I got my drinks pretty timely considering how many people were waiting. The band was really loud and because so much of the bar is open air, it was hot as hell where we were by the darts. There are no fans or windows in that section, so steer clear when it's warm outside.

We came here for drinks after the bar at the hotel closed at 11. What a dump! OMG, people eat here! Filthy carpet, bathrooms were just pure scary. My date begged for a glass so I wouldn't have to drink out a plastic cup (thank you!) Worse part? Oh a fight that broke out two feet from us and the security guard putting some guy in a choke hold until he passes out. For all of 10 seconds then comes to and starts tearing up the place , more bouncers come, the place is a zoo, said take grabs me by the hand and pulls me out to safety . Are you kidding me! First of all, is this a college hangout ? Are bouncers supposed to choke people until they pass out? Does it take 5 on 1? Then 4 Clearwater police cars show up, people scatter like cockroaches. At that point, I just wanted to go back to my suite and pretend I had never EVER heard of this spectacularly bad dump

I went to the south end location. Quieter and easier parking. Hunter was my family's server and he took good care of us. The food is great. Sliders and beer cheese pretzels are unrivaled. Very clean, plenty of tvs and seriously, our server was great. As a former server who is a bit uppity about service, definitely going back.

Brown boxer on the beach is mostly a place for tourists and young rowdy college kids. One of the few bars on clearwater beach so it gets packed. I don't come often anymore. They have a full food menu but everything I've tried was disappointing. The live music is usually not what would qualify as "talented", quite the opposite actually. The bartenders are usually overworked and inattentive since it's so busy on weekends and during peak season. Takes a while to get a refill here. Sometimes they have specials but besides that it's all over priced. It's a bar on one of the best beaches around, what do you expect??

    (2)
  • Courtney T.

The girls and I have always had a blast here. Typically a must stop in. This is always a good place to grab appetizers and drinks at. The atmosphere is always lively. Service can be a little slow and there is often live music. If not they do have a jukebox that you can play music in. They have open windows and outdoor seating that is open to the inner bar. This lets in the beach vibe and just carries over from the day at the beach feel. The food can be hit or miss I've found. Often it's bland, however on my last trip the flatbread hit the spot. The bartenders will change a TV to a sporting event you want to watch and are perfectly happy to find it for you if it's available. After my last visit, bring cash. They ran my card once for my whole charge*under the brown boxer* and then three seperate holds*under Hoot the DOG* that totaled to my whole charge. What bar does this? This was the first that this has happened and it took 5 days for the holds to release. I was a little confused as to why they did this. It won't deter me from coming back, just remind me to bring cash.

Brown Boxer is a 3 star place that deserves to be rounded up to 3.5 stars. I know how little sense that makes - why wouldn't I just say its a 3.5 star that I am rounding down to 3? Because, that sounds insulting, but if I say its a 3 star place that I am rounding up to 3.5, then it sounds complimentary. If you knew me, you'd understand I rarely make any sense. Anyway, is Brown Boxer worthy of your attention. Absolutely. Is it to die for? No. The best thing about the Boxer is its location and set up. It's right on Mandalay Ave, so it's on the beach (technically, the other side of the street, but close enough). They also have both outdoor seating and open air seating which allows you to either sit outside, or sit inside but with the wall open so you get some air. It's a great sports bar, with a ton of TV's, good beer selection, full bar, and plenty of bar food and your favorite sports bar appetizers. Food-wise, I wasn't too impressed. I got the pulled pork sandwich. It was far from the best I had ever had, but it was also far from the worst. It was decent. So why am I rounding up to 3.5 stars? Well, location and setup is a big deal. It's just a nice laidback, open air, sports bar. Also...pudding shots. I am not kidding - you've heard of jello shots? Well they have pudding shots. We got a cookies and cream and also an espresso pudding shot. It was drinks and dessert all in one. YUM! I understand they have other locations. I'm not sure any location is better than this one though. The biggest problem is the same problem with everything in Clearwater Beach - parking. But if you can find a place to park and are looking for a casual place to grab a bite after a day at the beach or to watch a game, you can't go wrong here.

I really want to give this place 4 stars but depending on what you get the food is really average. The fish tacos on the menu sounded so good but they lacked any real flavor. A cold tortilla, a few chopped bland tomatoes and a sprinkle of lettuce and cheese. At least the fish was fresh. I ordered badly. Next time I go, I'll stick to fried pub food, but I wanted to give this really cool place a chance on non-fried food. I definitely recommend this place if you just want a beer and place to catch a game. Lots of tvs and a great open layout.

Went with a couple of friends and family for dinner. Never going back. Food was cold and tasted old. Silverware and cups was dirty. Told waitress but she shrugged it off. Asked for manager and received same non-chalant attitude and response. Regardless paid bill and left an extremely decent tip only to see that my credit card was overcharged by $20.00. Called restaurant and was told they could not do anything about it. Don't recommend. Never going back.

Went here 2 days straight while in Clearwater. The drinks were ok and the bartenders were attentive well until the entire Hooters Calendar girls crew walked in. Yes they all came in at a spur of the moment 2 nights straight. I'm good with all the EYE Candy but this overwhelmed the staff at one of the two bars in the room. I was shocked to see that management didn't send another staff member over to assist with the service. The naked wings were ok but it's hard to screw that up. The sausage sandwich special was terrible. It lacks flavor and texture. Overall it was a good time but the management should have made some adjustments to the staffing currently there. I saw servers just standing around when they could have helped the bar out. Also why did the rules only apply to a few people. A guy stood up and used his chair to get a little higher up to see over the crowd. The bartender quickly told him to get down. One of the less than dressed Hooters girls does the same thing and no one says a word. Tell her to sit the F down. Double standard going on with that one.

I really hate to give bad reviews, but I have to be honest...the waitstaff here is friendly enough, but the food was LOUSY!!! Here on a Tuesday afternoon, before Happy Hour. I am just rating the pub part, I have not eaten here. There are not too many options at Clearwater Beach for nightlife, this is one of a few. We ended up here because I didn't feel like walking anymore. Also I really don't care about seafood so this place not really caring either sounded fine to me. We sat out on the patio against the building so the wind wasn't too much of a problem. Service felt kind of rushed, but whatever. I had a buffalo chicken sandwich, it was actually pretty good. I was starving at this point after such a long day of driving and walking and so on, but I think it was good regardless of hunger. I especially liked that it did not come with blue cheese on it, and ranch dressing was an option, which to me is a far better match for hot sauce. The fries were alright. Nothing special. I had a Blue Moon since the draft beer list was kind of meh for someone who would probably end up categorized as a beer snob. I used to love the stuff and it made me realize that like tea too there is stuff I used to love but have shied away from, but in the end it's still kind of nice to get back to your roots I think. Definitely a menu of bar food, but that totally hits the spot sometime. No idea on how it is later in the day, but they had a kids menu so I wouldn't think it's too much of a bar. Since it is in a touristy area it kind of figures they'd have one though.

since I went there 5 times in a week it deserves a decent review.

I am just rating the pub part, I have not eaten here. There are not too many options at Clearwater Beach for nightlife, this is one of a few. They attract a pretty lively crowd on weekends, and have a nice pub atmosphere. We have had some good times on the nights we have stopped in. I say check it out.

Beer and liquor selection and price was on par for the area.

well actually this is a review for the brown boxer on south beach on gulf blvd not the one on mandalay but there is no yelp for that location...(the brown boxer on mandalay is a 4 or 5 in my opinion) .... mine is long so settle in... when we were here this winter i went in one day at lunch ... seen the owner jay... i said we are coming with 4 other people tonight .. can we sit outside.. jay is a great guy and said of course you can ... so i thank him and leave... at 630 we arrived back that night ... no tables out back on the porch .. i seen the manager and said we need 6 on the back porch ... he said no tables out there tonight .. kareoke.. now its 630pm... no people .. no kareoke... but yet he couldnt put 2 tables back outside for us ... so one of the servers seen me.. said these are very good customers and we can get them a table. he proceeded to get us 2 tables and 6 chairs outside.. took him less then 2 minutes.. so we ate and everythign was then fine .. no thanks to the manager.. so next day we go back to the south beach boxer... now this is spring break time.... we were told they were open at 11am during spring break... so we go in at 1115.. manager is working on a light fixture just as we went in ... he said not open yet... i said i was told 11am ... he says nope.. noon.. maybe 1145 if we get the kitchen open early .. so rather then wait 30 or 45 minutes for him to decide we leave... that differnt frriends wanted to try "the nex boxer"... we didnt say a word about the past 2 times there we jsut went.. we sit out on the porch .. 5 minutes. no server.. 10 minutes .. i go in ask the bartender is there outside service... she says oh yeah i will get someome.. 5 more minutes pass.. we have now been there 15 minutes.. we all get up and leave.. that was in march ... 3 bad experiences within 24 hours.. so today im walking by the "new boxer" i think well we havnt been there for 3 months maybe it improved.. so i go in about 1045 knowing they wouldnt be open yet.. i see the girl bartender.. i said what time do you open.. she said well we are supposed to open at 11 but it usualy about 11:15 until the kitchen is ready.. a guy walks out carrying the sign they put out at gulf blvd.. he said yeah its best to figure 1115 to be safe.. i laughed and left... thought probably better not to go at all.. my wife picks me up from my walk.. i said lets go to the boxer on mandalay... by this time its about 1115.. we get to the boxer (we jsut got back in town and have not been there since march) .. a rude security guard in the parking lot that we have used for years to go to the boxer told us this is beach parking only ... i thought he was kidding.. for years the boxer and other tenants have fought to keep the beach goers out and from parking there . suddenly its for beach parkers only? he said yeah boxer lost their lease on the parking lot so you cant park here any longer.. go find a spot somewhere else.. then he returned to his personal call on his cell phone... rather than find a spot ... we left... my wife had said for a year they are growing TOOO FASSST .. they are trying ot open too many places.. when they only had the one everything was 5 stars... now they have 5 or more places and seems no one in in charge and things are a mess.. what a shame .. great food.. nice people... but the left hand never knows what the right hand is doing any longer and the south beach managers dont seem to even know what time they open.... shame

It's a happening place I hear, but when I went on Wednesday it was 1/4 full at prime time. Seems like a tourist place. The local spot is up the street and fun. Beer selection was good for the area.

Slow service and the food was terrible. I ordered coconut shrimp and I could see the coconut and the shrimp but absolutely no flavor. Even the French fries tasted terrible. No one was on the restaurant and our food took 40 mins to show up. Stay away. Not worth it.

Plenty of TVs and mucis. Service par but food was not. Burger was simple. My wife had to return the soup Tha was .....no bueno. The live music was ok. Will not be going back.

Best part is the variety of apps and full bar. Entrees are basically like a Fridays or other chain, nothing special. But service was good place was clean

Sweet potatoe fries with rown sugar and honey...awesome, ahi tuna super, $6.80 for jack daniels and .25 for coke mixer. Thats a first for me... Just remember to order drinks on the rocks here.

Cool British decor located in a touristy area. Plenty of space, pool tables, and a decent beer selection. Worth checking out for a beer or an appetizer.

Decent food, fast service.

fun pub spot on the strip at clearwater. sports on TV's all around, billiard tables, and good bar food.

A must place to stop in, when you are in Clearwater Beach area. Not that it screams anything memorable, but it attracts the best of folks in the crowds that come in. Bartenders are cool, drinks are affordable. Guests are awesome!

Pretty cool place to come and hang out for drinks. They play good music on the box and they have pool tables and dart boards. Food is ok too. They have an outdoor patio as well. I probably wouldn't come here to eat, but a great place to hang low with friends for catching up and drinking.
