First don't go by yourself..having said that: this restaurant is a gem..Cajun cooking or homestyle cooking..a little pricey but Excellant for making that special someone feel great..or groups... Great ambiance and service.. Did I mention the food was very tasty and fresh! My only regret is I don't make enough money to afford this place..single and independent contractor so no extra bucks...but for those special occasions I will be back!

Had clients offer to take me out for a celebration dinner after closing on new home I suggested Slates, it's now their favorite restaurant Kevin Oleary Century 21 Sunbelt

The dissatisfaction is not coming from the foods or the service but rather from not able to try them. I read the reviews, checked out their menu and hour of operation, and decided to take my wife there for lunch yesterday. I am from Estero so it took about 40 minutes and $2 toll to find out that they are not open for lunch. It would have been more considerate to update their actual working hours so to advise their clientele.

NICE PLACE I think I "O-D ed" on oysters here. I had them in two dishes and they were a bit undercooked for my taste, but large and juicy. I started with the Fried Oyster Tostados and they were quite good and followed them up with Slate's Grilled Caesar Salad with Fried Oysters, which I think was the better dish. My wife had the Broiled Oysters on the Half Shell as a Starter and the "half shell" turned out to be a tin cup. I tried it and we agreed that is was just fine, but not fantastic. For her main course she had the New Orleans Alfredo. It was tasty, but the pasta was way overcooked & not what you would call al dente. An overall very pleasant experience. We arrived a bit early and had a drink at the bar, which is very welcoming, and proved to be a satisfying experience for us. Service - 4 STARS Food - 4 STARS Ambiance/Decor - 5 STARS Location - 5 STARS Value - 4 STARS

St Croix's loss is SW FL's gain. The Cotters moved their resto pizzaz to Cape Coral and am I glad! Fellow Yelper John and his fabulous wife recommended Slate. We all drove miles to get to this very worthwhile foodie destination. I will definitely do it again! The atmosphere is NOLA stylish, and very welcoming, right down to the bartender's bowtie. So many delectable menu choices, added to the night's special - Flounder with light cream sauce. My friend had grilled Caesar salad, its preparation added flavor yet left the long romaine leaves intact. I enjoyed a splendid New Orleans Alfredo. An entire pantry of chicken, plump shrimp, al dente peppers, and tasty sausage covered a bed of fettuccine. You specify the temperature. My "medium" was great; my friend's "hot" had her smiling but reaching for a taste of bread or water to douse the initial fire.

WOW!!!! SLATE'S...I have had this booked mark for a while. I am ashamed I waited so long. I must warn all the wimpy SW Floridians who do not appreciate real & spicy food. Stay Away. This is for the adventurous. I was here for lunch on a Friday. Around noon time.. My server Cheri was fantastic. Attentive ,able to quote the special of the day, & answer my questions. The Gumbo was OUTSTANDING. It was almost as good as mine. It had just the right amount of roux. Along with shrimp, andouille, and chicken . The layer of flavor was great. It was spicy enough so you did not need to add more heat. Just enough to say aaahhhhh. The dish alone would make most Floridians cry big tears. The shrimp po boy is to die for....4 fresh off the boat large shrimp. Cooked to melt in mouth your texture. The sauce was just enough to compliment the shrimp. The cajun potatoes are so good.. So for all you wannabe Mardi Gras folks You MUST come here. You will not be disappointed in the cuisine. " Read less

We went to Slate's with no real expectations because it was pretty new. When we walked in my g/f and I both said "Oh, cute bar!" After we put our names on the list with the hostess we hopped up to the bar and had a few drinks; which were priced well. Unfortunately we waited WAY to long to be seated. We were told 20 minutes, and ended up waiting 45ish minutes...but, we kept ourselves busy at the very 'cute bar'. ;) Once we were seated, we immediately asked to be moved because the table they sat us at had a bench seat that didn't fit the table properly, and it was just too uncomfortable. The service and the food were great, although I will say that the Etouffee should come with a warning label. We expected it to be spicy, but this was way beyond spicy. My husband isn't one to send food back, so he just dealt with it, but I will say that he was sweating up a storm by the time he was done. I will give them another chance, but I'm not in any rush.

My boyfriend and I went here for brunch while vacationing in Cape Coral. It was absolutely amazing...the drinks were spectacular, the food was impressive to say the least and the staff was very friendly. I would definitely recommend it!

Date night at Slates sizzled w the bite of a great sazerac and an impossibly tender double pork chop so thick and juicy, coated w andouille and spices. It was the best pork chop I ever ever had. My date ordered a delightfully Cajun spiced seafood dish that disappeared w lots of yum noises. It's the real deal. Exceptional food and warm service w a tour de force bartender Bryan who can NOLA your beverage of choice. Thank you.

The food was incredible (shrimp and grits and the New Orleans Alfredo), the service was great, dessert (key lime pie) was out of this world! We went because of high yelp ratings and it didn't disappoint!

Pretty darn good for Cape Coral. I had had Slate's bookmarked since they opened a few months ago and finally got around to checking it out. They are closed Sundays and Mondays, but that might just be for off season. I have to say - do not come here and expect to be in and out. Slate's is a nice, classy atmosphere where you wouldn't expect rushed service, but everything was just a bit too slow for my liking. I wasn't greeted immediately, even though the bartender made eye contact several times. I wasn't greeted by a server for a solid five minutes. Took a while to place my order and get the check too. That being said, the food quality overshadows the sluggish service. I highly recommend the grilled Caesar salad. Yes, you read that right, grilled. I had heard of grilling romaine but never tried it, and it is delicious! For an entree I had the short ribs with fried grits. The grits weren't very good but the short ribs were amazing. I'm talking pull apart with a fork amazing. Very rich though. I also sampled the coffee rubbed filet, cooked a perfect med-rare. It was yummy too and I would order it again. They had four desserts on special that all sounded wonderful but I was just too full. I would recommend Slate's to anyone looking for an above average, not your run of the mill chain restaurant meal. I also appreciated the fun, light hearted New Orleans music playing in the background. Good job Slate's!

Crazy crazy crazy good!! This place will not disappoint. I might suggest sitting at the bar And ordering apps first. A must....the fried oyster appetizer!!

As a New Orleans native, I found Slate's extremely over-priced for regular seasoned food and some items on my plate were bland tasting. The atmosphere felt very cramped and loud. My family was excited about having a creole/Cajun restaurant so close to our home. Unfortunately, the hype far exceeded actual flavor.

Delicious gumbo!! Very cool atmosphere. Full bar. Great customer service. We made a reservation for Friday around 8 and it wasn't needed because there were a few tables available. You're going to see your usual retirees and locals. Yummy drinks.

The atmosphere is so relaxing very nice decor. The food was so delicious we will definitely go back again. I had the catch of the day the fish was cooked so perfectly. The service was top notch in my book. We didn't have to wait they didn't rush us. One of the guys that we were with doesn't eat chocolate and he ordered the coconut pecan torte when he got it he didn't realize it had chocolate. The waitress was so nice about it and instead he got the key lime pie. And in fact we all had a bite and it was such a good key lime pie it was a good finish to an great dining experience. Thanks Slate's we will be back. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Our reservation for 5 was at 7:30pm. The informed us that there were a few large parties coming in at that time and if we wanted to be there by 7, it would be better. We show up at 7 and got seated at 7:45. Thanks for wasting our time. After we were seated it took about 25 minutes to put in our order and our food didn't come out until around 8:45. Other tables who were seated after us received their food and paid their bill before our food even came out. Aside from this experience, their food is delicious and the server was amazingly friendly. You must order a cup of gumbo to start. It's a large portion so don't fill up! It literally comes in a cup and is full of meat and bold flavor. I ordered the special which was haddock in crawfish and crab cream sauce. Yummmmmmmm. Perfection. Around the table we had Cajun pasta (just ok), shrimp and grits, scallops (huge and flavorful!), and steak. My friends love their brunch here and can't wait for them to start serving it again.

Looking for good cajun food in the Ft. Myers area and was not disappointed. Starters of crab cake and gumbo were excellent. The Big Easy pasta was very good, as was the NO pasta. Good food, atmosphere and service.

one star because I am a single woman that sits at the bar. The food is great...........if you can get waited on by the sideshow of a bartender that is clearly trying to get tips on her looks and body, SORRY that does not work on me. I like to have utensils when my meal comes and have my drink refilled. Maybe I should come in dressed like a man........maybe I would get more attention

Had dinner there last evening and must say the food,(I had the New Orleans Alfredo) was excellent. The service was beyond my expectations. I've not had better service anywhere else. It was our first visit of many more to come.

Stopped in for Sunday brunch. Fantastic! First time so I tried the classic eggs Benedict. Really good. I'll be back to try their other Benedicts. My Wife had the bananas foster French toast. Really good as well. Can't go wrong here!

Our first visit to Slate's was, for me, a perfect Goldilocks dining experience: everything was just right. Slate's features outstanding Cajun/Creole food in a charming restaurant with friendly, attentive service. The food was delicious -- the NOLA Cajun Shrimp is out of this world, plump shrimp swimming in a butter-herb-spice sauce that is so good I could have made an entire meal of it (first eating the shrimp then dipping hunks of fresh baked bread into the sauce -- I seriously had to restrain myself from gorging on the bread and sauce before the rest of my meal was served). I will dream of that sauce for weeks and months, I'm sure. My blackberry sangria was fruity without being cloying and husband had a NOLA beer served in a mason jar mug. My gumbo was teeming with chunks of chicken, sausage & crawfish. My husband ordered the short ribs which were very tender and heaped in a deep, rich sauce, accompanied by a fried grits cake that sopped up the juices from the ribs (I also dipped some of the grits into the NOLA shrimp sauce, yum). We managed to save room for dessert and shared the vanilla bourbon creme brulee, which was the perfect size for two people to share; the custard very subtly flavorful and the crispy browned sugar topping added a nice crunchy contrast. For the quality of food and service I felt the prices were very reasonable. I intend to return again soon (already have a reservation for next week!).

We've never had a reservation because we like to go at "off-times" or right when it opens. When they've had Sunday brunch in season, there's been nothing better than sitting and listening to a live jazz band while savoring some sweet Sunday sustenance. Even out of season, however, lunch in the form of: gumbo (amazing), grilled Caesar salad (w/shrimp!), shrimp po boys and amazing specials (fried watermelon, anyone?), will soothe your soul. Wash it down with an Abita or cocktail of your choice, or just choose iced tea. The atmosphere is friendly, open and we've never had too much lag time in service. Thrilled there's a delicious taste of New Orleans here in the Cape!

Very poor business practice and mediocre food. A group of friends from Shell Point went today for lunch. The waitress insisted there could be only 1 check per table, even though we were single people sitting together. Even after a lengthy discussion she did not know if she could split the ticket at checkout. I had the gumbo and the Cajon sausage. The gumbo was ok, the sausage was so over cooked and dry it was hard to cut with a knife. No flavor. When it came time to check out, she did split the tickets but added a 20% tip based on the total amount. Wrote it in and added it for the total. I don't mind a 20% tip but I want to award it on my own. We had made reservations, so it wasn't a surprise we were coming. We have done these outing several times a month and never had a restaurant treat us so shabby. We won't be back. The food is not worth it.

No dissatisfaction with this fine restaurant. We decided to dine here for my girlfriends birthday and will definitely be coming back again and again. There were tables open but we chose to sit at the bar. Michelin, the bar tender gave us flawless service and stellar recommendations. We had BBQ shrimp as an appetizer and though it was $12.00, I have to admit it was worth every cent. Moving on to the next course we had sea scallops and the fish special which was crab encrusted red snapper. Both dishes were exquisitely presented and were as savory as they were artful. For desert we had key lime pie that rivals most key lime pies I have tried. As a finishing touch, they served a wonderful lava cake with birthday wishes for my girlfriend. This place shouldn't be missed while dining in the Cape!

Been looking forward to the opening for a long time. Was NOT disappointed in the least. In fact, my high expectations were exceeded. Gumbo was great. Cajun pasta great. Wifey had the short ribs and loved them. Next in my sights is the red beans and rice.

Excellent food and excellent serivce! The seafood was cooked perfectly! Everyone in our party of 4 made comments on how great their food was (including 2 food snobs from San Francisco). Try the key lime pie!

The atmosphere is authentic and very good service. Food was good but I ordered the gumbo based on other reviews and was disappointed to see salad shrimp in the bowl. Would definitely go back but won't order gumbo!

We went to Slate's for lunch and overall really enjoyed the experience. It was my third visit and my wife and son's first. As others have mentioned we found the hostess to be a little curt but our server was very friendly, professional and attentive (I'm afraid I've forgotten his name) and the decor and table settings are very attractive. We ordered the Ahi Tuna Fillet, the large Cajun Gumbo and the Panini Muffuletta with Cajun potatoes. The tuna salad was really nice and the tuna itself was cooked perfectly (rare) and definitely, as our server had promised, sushi quality. The gumbo was quite good with a nice amount of chicken, crawfish, andouille and seasoning. As with my previous visits however the roux appeared to have separated and was therefore quite oily on top. I make my own Cajun roux (mahogany colored with a painfully long one hour cook time) often and separation isn't even possible so I'm not sure what Slate's is using but it could use some tweaking. The panini muffuletta was excellent with a nice selection of very flavorful meats and a very savory olive salad. The sandwich could have used another minute or two in the press but the potatoes were cooked perfectly and were nicely seasoned. With some improvement to their roux Slate's could be just as authentically Cajun as most restaurants we've visited in Louisiana.

The restaurant was simply charming. We were greeted warmly, and the food was scrumptious. The crab cake was the best I ever ate. My daughter raved about her colby salad and hamburger. The key lime pie was so good and not too sweet. We highly recommend this start-up Cajun restaurant.

This place is amazing . Susie the hostess is as sweet as a cupcake . Ask for Carlos as your waiter . He makes the orders fast and is a funny guy. As a New Yorker I was thrilled that a Florida place that made New Orleans food had such good reviews. All five stars . Always give a special thanks to the chef Alan because get him in a kitchen and he is a miracle worker . To my slate friends keep it up!!!!the food is heavenly from mixed green salad to chicken dumplings I highly reccomend this place because of the quality and the food AND the people . Go to slates and you won't be diss appointed. My mom got chicken and dumplings she loved them my grandma got scallops she was surprised at the texture and amount that was within them. I got slates chicken(heaven) and mixed green salad (the balsamic tasted homemade)my grandpa got the Blackened sea bass which he was surprised by because before he ate it here he wasn't find of. My dad short ribs which he was in love with too. Go SlatesGo slates Gooooooo!!!!!!

Slate's combines the total fine dining experience with the flavor of New Orleans. It has a small dining and cocktail area keeping it cosy not crowded. Orleans Jazz plays in the background while you are catered warmly by its gracious staff. They offer both a lunch and dinner menu as well as daily specials. My party of three each having different dinners, all of them were a knock out. Their gumbo will put your grandmother out of business, sure and give it a sample. I recommend reservations and leave children with a sitter.

Terrific meals accompanied by great service. My husband and I have been waiting until the end of season to try Slate's after hearing good things. We were not disappointed. Had one of the appetizer specials -- broiled oysters in white wine and garlic with Parmesan. He had another special for his entree -- sea bass with corn salsa -- and it truly was melt-in-your- mouth. My sea scallops also were delicious. All of the desserts, made fresh every day, sounded equally appealing, but we settled on the chocolate croissant bread pudding, which was served warm. Yum!

Tonight will be my 9th or 10th visit. My first visit was a private dinner party I held for 5 special guests. Tod helped me pre-plan & co-ordinate flowers, champagne, menu. The table setting in the side room Tod created was spectacular. The food; wonderful. Slate's had prepared menus W/O prices for 4 entrees for my guests. Appetizers I left up to Tod, who presented a savory selection. Since then I've gone many times to eat at the bar and chat with my personal friend, Micheline Caron; bar tender extrodinaire! Micheline "Captains" a pleasant atmosphere at once casually friendly and always polite and happy. Tonight I bring a very close, dear friend for a quiet supper. He understands "special food" prepared fresh and flavorfully. Micheline's wine suggestions have never, ever missed the mark! SLATE'S is a very special place. A safe venue for a single person to enjoy a relaxed meal at the bar, or a couple or group celebrating an ordinary or special day. SALUDE! & BON APPETITE!

I was disappointed to see that my original review was "not recommended." I wonder why. Our last visit found us enjoying good meals, for the most part. Lettuce in the standard Caesar was still rather limp, not chilled. At last, they are able to provide tea bags for anyone wanting to enjoy a cup of tea. I've had the boneless short ribs on three previous visits, so this time I decided to have what my partner has ordered in the past...the chicken and dumplings. I have to say, though dumplings were good (like my mom made from Bisquick), the dish was long on those dumplings and short on the chicken. Desserts are wonderful! I was disappointed to note that patrons are allowed to bring in and use the vapor cigarettes. God, can't someone go out and not see anyone smoking?...no matter what they're smoking?

I was really looking forward to my first meal at Slates. New restaurants in the Cape are a big deal. I love to support our local small businesses. I have heard some great reviews so I went in with great expectations. Service was awful. We waited over an hour for a table which never came. This is a Friday night at 6 pm in the middle of June. I would hate to see what happens in season. We were told it would be a ten minute wait. The gumbo is a greasy way too spicy dish and the shrimp was just ehh. Good thing we had bread. Will definitely not return. Maybe I'm spoiled with places like Rumrunners the Joint and my new favorite Ceno. Thank God for Tums. Sorry Slates,

The restaurant was simply charming. We were greeted warmly, and the food was scrumptious. The crab cake was the best I ever ate. My daughter raved about her colby salad and hamburger. The key lime pie was so good and not too sweet. We highly recommend this start-up Cajun restaurant.

Yum!

Fantastic!! Atmosphere, service, and the best pork chop I've had anywhere. The crawfish étouffée was spot on and spicy, just like it should be. Very pleased and looking forward to going back.
