Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

We start off every Cape Coral vacation with a stop at Iguana Mia, for some chips and salsa...and margaritas. SO good. And strong, so watch out. I ended up taking a 3 hour "nap" one afternoon after a trip here. The food is pretty good too. Great nachos. There's a nice little umbrella-covered patio for outside seating, another welcome treat after flying in from snowy New England. We usually end up here mid-afternoon, so the restaurant isn't crowded, and there's definitely no wait. Service is good, above average.

This is hands-down the best Mexican restaurant in the area. If you are a vegetarian, they have an entire separate menu devoted to you, which is very healthy and a true rarity in Cape Coral. The wait staff is great, bathrooms are very nice, and the fresh chunky salsa and warm chips are addicting. Outdoor seating is very relaxing, and you can't beat the price!

During a recent vacation, we had an opportunity to visit Iguana Mia with family members that raved about the food and service. I was pleasantly surprised about the cleanliness of the establishment-just proves that a restaurant can provide good service and food and keep the place looking decent-hint to other establishments :) We were seated immediately and our waitress, LeeAnn was very pleasant and accommodating. I realize that's her job, but she seemed to thoroughly enjoy her work. Another plus for Iguana Mia! The food was served in a timely manner and prepared very well. My husband and I both requested a special order and our steak and shrimp chimichangas were great! Finally, the big answer everyone would like to know when checking out a Mexican restaurant, "how are the drinks"? Well, this is the one area that Iguana Mia fell short. We had original margaritas, which were on special that night, so this may be the reason why they were not that good-still no excuse. A great margarita with a great dining experience can make a big difference in the overall dining experience. I do recommend trying out Iguana Mia if visiting in the area and if she is available, ask for LeeAnn!

Just had a birthday meal at Iguana Mia Mexican restaurant. I love seafood and the waitress recommended the tuna. It was the best I ever had. I pride myself as a great cook. This meal was prepared just excellent. Perfect. 5 stars on the service, 5 stars on the taste, and 5 star on the presentation. The dessert was fried ice cream and that was 5 stars too. This is the best Mexican restaurant around. HOWEVER, I WOULD GO ONE STEP FURTHER AND SAY THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST RESTAURANTS AROUND. Can't wait to go back! WAY TO GO! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

I love going here when in town. Their carne asada tacos are to die for. Drinks are great sizes and the liquor flows freely :) If you plan on celebrating your birthday, plan on going on your ACTUAL birthday and you have to show proof to get any of the birthday benefits (really difficult when you're planning a kid's birthday since I know most people don't carry around birth certificates).

My wife and I sat outside to enjoy some lunch and we were waited on by Kurt. He was very attentive and accommodating. We started with some quest blanco which was very good and we experimented with all of the sauces and salsas for some time while enjoying one of their fine hand-crafted margaritas which was excellent (the one that Kurt made was excellent, the second one I had was made by the bartender and was far less delicious) My wife had the baja fish taco that she enjoyed with the addition of their house-made chipotle mayo. I had a pepper jack cheesesteak chimichanga. It was good but too many peppers in it for me Overall a good experience. Looks like it could use some "freshening up" though.

Yum! Yum! Yum!!!! From chips to churos it was great. Dinner wasn't expensive and the portions were generous. The service was a little slow, but it was dinner time. I live in The Netherlands and we don't have REAL Mexican food here (not that it is bad, just different). This was such a treat...Thank You!!!!

From the minute we called and heard their automotive message, we knew we had to dine here! This is some of the BEST Traditional Mexican food I have had in a long time!! Got these incredible Tequilla Sunrises with freshly squeezed juices. BOGO (2 for 1) on Sunday brunch until 4pm. Their Huevos Rancheros was outta this world. And every table get chips and salsa, like a normal Mexican restaurant, but here it's homemade tortilla chips, sour cream, mild salsa, and my personal favorite, spicy pico de gallo, Yummy! To top it off it was our friends birthday and he got a well portioned fried ice cream for free and a Mexican Sombrero to keep! All in all our experience was pretty great! Definitely sit on the patio, weather permitting. The service was a little slow but I think it was busier inside. So be patient enjoy ur cocktail and the amazing chips and eventually the food will come and you will know you made the right choice by dinning at Iguana Mia!

First visit and we really enjoyed it. Had a late lunch on the front patio. We were a little pressed for time so I didn't get to try out their margaritas (next time) but had a very tasty lunch with a chicken enchilada (REALLY good) and a shredded pork taco (very good). The refried beans were tasty, the yellow rice I didn't care for. I'll try the red rice next time. My husband got a chicken/rice bowl and loved it. We split a fried ice cream. Best I've had in a while. The staff (manager and our waitress) were extremely friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. We will definitely be going back.
(4)Shelly T.
We frequent Iguana Mia regularly and are never let down. Great drink prices and excellent food, always good service. If you're looking for Mexican food in Ft Myers, this is definitely the place to go! We love their chips and salsa ,better than any of the other Mexican places around. We usually get their steak/chicken fajitas and it's so much food!
(5)Jeffrey C.
Intersting place for sure! Both hostesses that greeted us could have worked for the KGB....not friendly at all. First thing we noticed was it appeared a bit "worn" and could use a good cleaning. The menus that were handed to us were dirty. The chips and salsa were excellent! Our server greeted us and was very pleasant. We each ordered a margarita, one blended, one on the rocks and both were excellent. My partner ordered the beef burrito and said it was delicious, but dry. I ordered the cilantro chicken and it was o.k. All in all an OK experience, my guess it was great in "it's day".

This place actually knows 'hot'. So if you like hot but think all places dumb down hot, well their hot salsa is the real thing. Love it! However, I rate all Mexican places on their Carne Asada and this place FAILED. I love my Carne asada and if you appreciate your Carne Asada don't get it here. You know what a Carne Asada plate looks like, well, they don't here. In fact, they have confused it for a Fajitas place here. And they also have Fajitas on the menu here, maybe they've confused the two? Maybe the Fajitas plate looks like a Carne Asada here? The Carne Asada came in a separate dish on a bed of onions and green peppers followed by a second dish of sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, and my two sides - rice and beans. Plus the tortillas on the sides. That my fellow Yelpers is called a Fajitas. Why are they disguising it as Carne Asada? Really disappointing. I'm new in town, I hope this is not the norm.
(2)Richard H.
Well, well. I finally found a place that has REAL hot stuff. The salsa made me sweat and it was great. Fresh and tasty. The food was good too. I had the enchiladas' all three meats pork, ground beef & shredded beef.. mmmm. A side of garlic Italian squash. mmm garlicky. The personnel were great. I must give special props to my server. Omar, from Peru.. He was pleasant, attentive and knowledgeable to all my questions. Outstanding job. My only complaint was they use industrial chips. They were hot and fresh if they were in house it would be better. But over all I would highly recommend this place.
(4)Cindy G.
Whoa!!!!!!! Prices have jumped sky high in last couple of weeks. Not such a good deal anymore and salads are not included either. See ya!!
(2)Jenna A.
Iguana Mia is alright. I've been a couple times for dinner and happy hour, and I wouldn't say no to a return visit, but maybe try different things off the menu. I do like their queso (the "gringo" one with yellow cheese and bacon), the guacamole, and house margaritas. The margaritas could be stronger but if you catch them at a time they're discounted, it's not as big of a deal. Iguana Mia's salsas are really good too. The mild one always tastes fresh and has a nice mix of ingredients. I like the medium one too, but the hot is too spicy for my little taste buds. For side items with entrees, I recommend the garlic zucchini. They are tasty and even a little healthy, which is always a plus. I'm typically a huge fan of fish tacos but was very disappointed in my order the other night. I requested that the fish be blackened, but didn't taste much in the way of blackening spices and it was surprisingly greasy? Also, it was sliced up in to little pieces, when I was expecting the fish to be a small filet. At $12 for two tacos, I felt slighted. Basically, I would recommend hitting this place up for happy hour and sharing some appetizers over drinks.
(3)Frank C.
Never had a bad experience at the Cape Coral location. Delicious food, god service and not too pricey.
(5)Google U.
Iguana Mia never fails me! The staff is there to serve you before you even ask. The food is always execellent. We came here on a Monday when margaritas are just $1.00 . you can't go wrong if you like margaritas. Chrissy the waitress, was so helpful and came over to the table to check on us often to see how we were doing. Overall, great experience if you are looking for some good, reasonably priced Mexican food!
(5)Kimberly L.
This place was a really good value for your money! I came here with my boyfriend and his parents for a late lunch/early dinner. We got chips with 3 different types of salsas on the table and decided to forgo appetizers since they had pretty hefty portions. There was a nice lunch special menu served until 4pm and all the entrees on the menu are served with 2 sides. I decided to go with my usual enchilada suizas and my boyfriend ordered the chicken & steak fajitas. The food was really good. I was very pleased with my meal and everyone at our table was too. We ordered soft drinks and an alcoholic drink and the entire bill was only $55. P.S. They offer you a free entree on your birthday (with ID) and they have 99cent margarita Mondays!
(4)Paul W.
Server was very nice. That's it. Everything else was awful. Food, cleanliness, decor, atmosphere, etc. Wife and I both left sick to our stomachs. My poor wife had it worse than I did. Worst food I have ever eaten out. And in case yelp thinks this is a fake review, I can provide proof of just how bad this visit went.
(1)Jennifer N.
Great atmosphere..was very mellow, but not too quiet that I felt uncomfortable bringing my kids. Food and service excellent! (Was actually here in 11/2013)
(5)Angela B.
I took my friends who were visiting from out of state, and found we were there on 99cent margarita monday! The food was awesome, Drinks kept coming, and the server was exceptional. Definitely a place I will be back..
(5)Laura R.
I had dinner there with my boyfriend the other evening. We arrived at 8:20. The restaurant was still quite full. The food was brought out in about 10 minutes. We ate rather quickly and finished our meals , ordered a dessert to share... Asked for coffee, the server said no, they didn't have any, asked for an after dinner drink from the bar, she said no, they already called last call. What??? So you're telling me we can't have anything to drink with our dessert and basically to get out. Why then, do you take tables 45 minutes before you close, why not just stop taking tables 2 hours before you close. Then maybe the guests could finish their dinner! The food is no big deal either. The Mexican restaurant around the corner is better. The server was obviously not interested in making any money for herself or the restaurant. Will not be back.
(1)Adrienne F.
We had not eaten here before but had seen it in the past (who could miss the bright green and yellow storefront!!!). We stopped here with friends after just flying into town. Mid afternoon, sat outside on patio, had place to ourselves. Margaritas were tasty, menu had lots of options, not just the basic stuff, and the food was fantastic. I had one of the black bean and rice bowls with chicken. Delish! Chips and the three kinds of salsa they served were yummy also. Perfect place to start our vacation!
(5)Jade C.
Ah Iguana Mia, the experience was similar to what I expect eating off the back of an Iguana would be like. The Cape Coral location is kind of grubby, worn down, the irritating music makes you want to scratch at something - yeah, ugh. I ordered the burrito, my friends ordered the chicken chimichanga and the soft shell tacos. All three had this gloopy texture. Also the plate presentation and garish was so 90s, apart from instead of parsley for garnish they used kale? *confused face. So to sum up my negativity, it was edible, there was a lot of food! Rice was dry, but my burrito was huge, I couldn't have attempted to eat rice too. It was no where near authentic tex mex and Chilis does better. It was majorly lacking flavor, I kind of wanted to go ape on it with some Cheyenne pepper or something. So what is Iguana Mia good at... MARGARITAS. If you want to get wasted on a budget they do a $1 margarita night and like everything else there, the sizes are huge. The salsa and chips they bring out to start is pretty good but I doubt homemade, and if you drink enough you'd probably think their food is great too.
(2)Jeff P.
Reliable Mexican-American food and good service typically. Great service at the bar, which is sizeable.
(4)Meeko P.
Good basic TexMex/Mexican food for southwest Florida. Florescent red and green corn tortilla chips served with several different yummy salsas . Relaxing front patio with nice size portions of good food with efficient service. I enjoyed a large cup of Pozole, the broth a little on the bland side, but there was plenty of pork and hominy in the soup, garnished nicely with cabbage, radish, onion, avocado and lime. The black beans and yellow rice (my choice) served with my delicious chicken entree was better then what is served at most similar type Mexican restaurants. Plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant. Worth a visit if you are craving a Margarita and Mexican food while in Cape Coral.
(3)Norm C.
Enjoyed our lunches today. Sat outside on the patio as the temperature was nice. I found the service today to be excellent. Fast and polite. The corn chips to start were very good, as were the various dips. My wife had the chimichanga lunch special, and I had the polo con salsa tomatillo. Both were very good and huge servings. We were amazed at the size of the large margarita. The waitress was kind enough to go and make a fake one using lime juice and water just so my wife could take a picture.
(4)Jessica C.
It's for sure Tex-mex.... First time I went I ordered the chicken enchiladas pretty decent Minus the one downfall of a cold center... Rice was crunchy.... I gave it one more try ordered some "nachos" and I left feeling like I should have stayed home and made my own I was given some beans with shredded cheese a little bit of meat and lettus... If you are okay with bland/ Americanized Hispanic food go for it
(3)K N.
The service here was really good. Actually, our server was good, there was a manager on the floor and he seemed pretty clueless. Food was ok at best. Chicken in the chimichanga was very dry. Guacamole was on the expensive side at 9 bucks for not a very big portion. Also did not taste super fresh, but not awful. Quesadilla was decent enough. Not an awful experience but doubt we will be back. 50 bucks not including tip for a chimichanga, quesadilla, guacamole and 2 soft drinks is a bit on the expensive side for mediocre "Mexican" food.
(3)Gautham J.
Queso marvelous. Chips were warm and salsas were tasty and not overpowering. Carnitas excellent. Chicken fajitas little overcooked but still tasty. Enchiladas were huge and both chicken and steak were solid. Well worth another visit!!
(4)Scott J.
Very good food ordered zucchini as a side and it was done just right, the hot salsa is very good and the sour cream chicken burrito excellent, great bar and outdoor seating
(5)Steve F.
Excellent food and service was perfect. Everything came out fast, hot and tasty. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends to check out. The only complaint I could say I had was that the margarita was a bit on the sour side. I know everyone has their tastes but to me it was sour. Make sure you get both salsas with the chips if you like spicy. Other than that, enjoy!
(5)Zach G.
Nice atmosphere. Good fajitas. Friendly staff.
(5)Alysia G.
Ate a late lunch here on a Tuesday in October. Sat on the patio and had immediate attention from the server. Margarita was decent, food was pretty good. I liked the salsa selections, above average salsa and plenty of chips. However, it wasn't anything mind blowing. I got the tacos and they were good, standard, Mexican fare. I imagine coming on a weekend would be a lot of fun, the place is huge!
(3)Alisa V.
The chicken quesadilla was great! In addition, they have this amazing sangria meets margarita drinks that tastes amazing and it is very affordable! Yummy!
(4)Dania G.
I did not enjoy the food from here at all. The chips were too greasy and everything tasted bland. I took the order carry out so I am not sure if that made a difference.
(2)Margherita F.
To start this off, I went here for my birthday with my mother and my daughter(1.5 years old). The hostess asked if there were any birthdays, seated us and took our drink order. Followed up by the bus boy bringing the chips, salsa, and also asking if it was anyone's birthday. A different girl that didn't introduce herself or even speak to us brought our drinks (later we find out that silent person that dropped off drinks and left was our waitress). The manager came to the table to explain the birthday spiel and check that it was my actual birthday. After he left, 10 minutes went by before the waitress came to take our order (we had menus stacked since before we got our drinks). The food came out quickly and was delicious. HOWEVER once food was delivered we didn't see a single waitress, bus boy, or the manager come out of the kitchen for any reason at all. We finished our meals and were ready to deal with the horribly mandatory sombrero/ice cream picture and leave. After all, a toddler is involved and we aren't the type to stay in a restaurant when my kid is over it and ready to start screaming. We waited over 15 minutes before ANY employee came into view to ask for the check. Didn't care of it was the waitress or the nightly janitor, just someone bring us our check so we can leave and not have a screaming child in the process. That person has to go find our waitress but apparently not inform her that we want our check. So once she showed up, it was give us the check, don't care about dessert or anything, just the check. Once we got the check we begged for, found out just how much GRATUITY IS INCLUDED ON THE BILL. We were informed that it's already included at the beginning on the meal so that wasn't a shock. The shock and insult was that for 2.5 people, it was an 18% tip! I've worked as a waitress so I know what the job is, I also know if a small child is involved you just want them to flip out anywhere BUT at your restaurant. So normally that means fast service with repeated checks on how everything is going and if a box is needed. Instead, because these people are guaranteed a nice big tip, there's no hustle or decent customer service when there should have been. If I was paying, I would've deducted the ENTIRE gratuity from the total, paid and left. Cause that waitress (who's name was never given once) didn't deserve a single penny of a tip. If it had been a table of six or more people, included gratuity is understandable and fine. But for any table no matter how many people, that just creates lazy staff that don't give proper service.
(2)Michael C.
With limited options in Cape Coral, this is a solid choice. Service 5-star, Atmosphere 3-star (patio is nice if it were warmer), Food 4-star. Solid chips, salsa and queso dip. Three of us had the chicken breast with jalapeño sauce which was delicious and everyone else seemed pleased with their typical Mexican dishes. Sides of vegetables were not very good, so stick with the beans and rice. Overall, worth the stop if you're in the area.
(4)Asia H.
I had a good time. The benches were cement so I didn't get cellphone reception when I sat at a booth against the wall. haha But anyway my server was Maria and she was just so cute and adorable. I had the shrimp tacos. They were kind of small so I ordered two. I went with one other person and our bill came out to $25 so it wasn't bad. Wireless was kinda splotchy too, hence the four stars instead of 5.
(4)Morgan G.
i eat here alot and it seems the food and service is starting to take a downward turn
(2)Vinnie M.
Very nice place. Cheesy atmosphere yet very fun. Our waiter was awesome, and the plethora of chips and salsa (varying spicy levels) got the night off to a great start. They have specials each night! And tonight was 1 dollar Margaritas! Food was very tasty and portions big. Very kid friendly. Definitely will return.
(4)Ben M.
My girlfriend Joan and I drove from Ft Myers Beach to Cape Coral just to have the Vera Cruz tilapia and Vera Cruz mahi mahi we were not disappointed . These entrees on the specials board were top shelf, the pure white fresh portions were grilled perfectly then served Vera Cruz style. The sides of yellow and red rice and black beans also delicious. I love this mexican restaurant everything on the menu fresh, friendly staff and good service!!!!
(5)Gail B.
This was the worst so- called Mexican food I've ever had. Everything tasted like it was from a box, can or bag and then thrown in the microwave. The sour cream chicken burrito was cold in the center. BUT......it came out very fast! LOL
(1)Laura R.
Lots going on at this place. Tons of drink options and a fairly large menu. Won't set your party until you're all there and will not take day-of reservations. $.99 margaritas on Mondays and other good specials throughout the week. Food is pretty good and the service is exceptional.
(4)Antony D.
Great service, great salsa, great Mahi Veracruze. I can't wait to go back.
(4)Speedway B.
Friendly fast and good What more do you want
(4)Paul R.
Consistent and well run restaurant. This is very much Tex-Mex food. You will not find real Mexican food here. Food is overpriced, but people looking for Tex-Mex and a 'fun atmosphere' will enjoy it.
(4)Anne J.
Just curious, but when the two for one marquirtos get taken off the menu? Sad that happened since that was one of the reasons my friends and I went there frequently. The food is still great, but we miss those marguerta's!!!!!!
(3)Victoria T.
Monday is dollar margarita night and they were good! The posole (soup) was also very good.
(3)Peter M.
If you're going t go, just go to the bar- good Tequila selection. "Milk was a bad idea!" -Ron Burgundy Do me a favor, and just substitute "Milk" for the words "Iguana Mia" right there. Never EVER go on a Wednesday- it's buy 1 entree & get 1 entree free from 2pm-6pm. Oh, yea, that sounds great except for the fact that it draws the over 60 crowd- by the time they've at down, washed their dentures in the bathroom, and ordered a margarita to seem fun in front of their grandkids 30 minutes has already past. OMG SO SLOW! a couple quick hitters: If you go to Taco Bell because you love the hot sauce, or Go to McDonalds because you love the condition of their fries, then Go to Iguana Mia if it's your birthday (in which case the meal is free) no one really cared at this place, not even the manager who sounded like he was reading from a piece of paper when he came over to welcome & thank my Grandmother for spending a part of her birthday there. The mood wasn't laid back, it was just a joke, like everyone there was intentionally being a jackass because they put the 18% gratuity on the check without asking you. That, and it seemed like all of the food had been farted on. Seriously!! It's not that it smelt bad, but more like all of the employees anticipated your imminent heartburn as they watched you take bite after bite. The one shining antonym in this Thesaurus of "awful" was the guacamole- it looked like someone really tried hard to craft this appetizer in to something special, and it did look nice, except it tasted like dust, and upon further inspection was most likely scooped out of a garbage can full of guacamole stored in their employee bathroom, under a pile of wet towels (I'm not saying that's what they do, I'm saying I wouldn't be surprised. the 1 & 2 Star reviews have to be longer so I can accurately describe whey I don't recommend this place- now go eat an ice cream bar & wash your mouth out with the idea of this place. If you're going t go, just go to the bar- good Tequila selection.
(2)Pamela M.
Normal Chain restaurant Mexican Food for the price. There aren't many mexican restaurants around this area so this has been our choice for a few experiences when craving it. It's ok, but not the best I've ever had. I'd say on par with what would be expected of a chain but nothing spectacular. Still looking for that great one to recommend to everyone seeking Mexican food. Service was adequate but nothing special nor speedy. Having lived in TX..this isn't even close to kickin Tex-Mex. Sorry.
(2)Jessica K.
Good drinks but that is about it. The chips are a real disappointment. The entrees are ok but nothing special.
(2)Jeffry C.
Always delish! All time favorite is the sour cream chicken chimichanga!
(5)Michael T.
The sad thing is that this probably is the best mexican food in the area... It's always crowded so expect to wait for a table. The food is nothing to write home about, just the typical run of the mill mexican. Service has always been ok. So, bottom line: We would probably go back when we're in the area and feel the need for mexican food. But we definitely will have our expectations set right...
(3)Randy B.
Been a while since I've visited, but I remember it being pretty good.
(4)Richard M.
This place came recommended so I tried it out. The food was average and service was good. Sangria was definitely best part of the night.
(3)Virginia G.
Hubby had to deliver a yacht down here so I road along, of course I looked up all the restaurants in the area because that's my charge as copilot, a free mexican meal with drinks. So the place looked a little run down from the outside, as did all of Cape Coral thank you, but inside was a tad better. Actually very kitchy tacky mexican decor that made the place seem lively even though there were probably only three tables takes on a Saturday afternoon. We had mexican beers, tecates I believe, and some burritos. THe burritos were surprisingly good and large plates! The place filled up a little more as the afternoon went on and really ended up being quite fun! I bet it could be a real party place during happy hour, perhaps too much so, I always prefer off hours myself anyway. So if you're stuck in Cape Coral try it, be open minded, drink enough tequila and you won't care anyway!!! ; )
(3)Rick S.
Phenomenal! Every bit as good as billed. Tamale was fantastic.
(5)Cameron C.
They finally have a white queso on the menu which is a vast improvement over the bacon flavored goop they served as queso before. They still need to work on the salsa flavor, improve on the food quality and the place is expensive for mid-level chain TexMex restaurant.
(3)Alicia C.
The food is amazing! The Sour Cream Chicken dish is probably one of my favorite items on the menu and should be experienced at least once. The drinks are always great, good authentic margaritas. The salsa that they bring to the table is a great flavorful way to start your meal. They have great combination plates, with tacos and enchiladas, burritos, etc. You can get any great Mexican dish and it's going to be a GREAT dish! Everything is delicious. I've been coming to Iguana Mia probably two times a year for the past 12 years whenever I'm in town visiting my family that lives in the area. The one thing that sticks out in my mind is that even after not 1, 2, 5, 10, 12 years, the food is ALWAYS CONSISTENT! Now that's something to say! Especially considering ups and downs in businesses but to have great food time and time again is great thing that represents a quality establishment. **Deal Seeking Diva tip** Maximize your drinks by attending the Happy Hours which are always 2 for 1! Great deal! Also, they frequently put coupons in the local newspapers for 2 for 1 dinners, so be sure to keep an eye out for those to maximize the value while you dine!
(4)Stephen F.
Food lacks flavor and is overly salted. Drinks are watered down. Service is lackluster.
(1)Della B.
Always good food. My favorite is margarita monday! A must try when you are in Cape Coral. Look for the "ugly green building" it is their trademark.

I LOVE this place! Great margaritas, sizzling fajitas, homeade chips, and scrumptious sour cream chicken enchiladas!! Every town needs a Tex-Mex place like this b/c this place is phenomenal! You can't go wrong here...

Right on the main drag, if you can call anything in Cape Coral right on the main drag. So the place is always crowded; winter, spring, fall and summer. This is THE MEXICAN restaurant in C.C. and it is really, really good. Huge portions and cheap prices unlike most of the places I eat at in San Jose. You have to go lay down after one of their enchalada plates or the three taco combos. Plus the huge sides of beans and salad. I try to finish but I can't ever do it. They practically have to deliver it to the table with a forklift. So I don't know how many people from Cape Coral will ever read this but I will try to review as many places as I can. Maybe I'll be the King Yelper of Cape Coral.

Sadly, this *is* the best Mexican restaurant in Southwest Florida. I've eaten here with family and friends many times over the years. The food is good, but has never impressed me. The food is actually fairly bland as it comes from the kitchen. They do have a signature sauce called "Iguana Sauce" but it is very hot and overpowers the food. By itself, I do like the sauce, just not all the time. I guess I can say this, for 20 years, they have been very consistent. Doesn't compare to Taqueria Del Sol, but then, I don't want to drive to Atlanta every time I want Mexican food. There are some hole-in-the-wall places around Fort Myers and Cape Coral that have more authentic food, cheaper. You give up the full bar and nice seating. Worst experience at the Cape Coral location? Waiter spilled a vat of salsa in my lap, on the porch. Haven't been back in three years.

Not great but not too bad either. The combo meals are pretty good and their salsa is the best. Other than that there's nothing much to brag about nor complain about.

My family loves this place. My wife grew up in Cape Coral and her parents still live in the area so IM is always a safe go-to place when they want Mexican food. They say this particular IM is the original restaurant that started it all so that was interesting to me bc they remembered when the interior was all plastic patio furniture and there were crates of beer stacked out in the open. The place has been remodeled very nicely to a dark but not shady casual dining vibe. The food is always good here. I ordered the chimichanga with papitas in mole sauce and corn on the cob. Everything was cooked perfectly but I think they put too much mole on the potatoes - not a big deal. Since it was 2-for-1 Margarita night my family got their fix for half the price, which is always a good thing. We have an infant and the staff was very accommodating. I highly recommend this IM in Cape Coral bc it is less crowded than the other sites in Ft. Myers and it is the original restaurant.

"Patio Closed For the Summer" said the sign on the door....BOO!! Otherwise decent food & good service. Worth a shot!

I'm torn on this place...I came in yesterday night and had the best service ever by a woman named Gina. Probably one of the best bartenders I've ever had. Attentive, and helpful to the fullest. In town on business from Texas and came back a 2nd night hoping for great service from Gina the Bartender again. Was disappointed when she was not at work but decided to give it a try anyways. This is where I turn sour. The bartender tonight (no introduction or anything) stared at us for a few minutes before coming over. Once she came over all she said is what do you want? No menu offered, no chips, anything. Ordered our drinks...a simple water and Margarita and it took 10 mins. She then went out of her way to still not bring a menu to us. Finally able to place an order and had I known it would take 25 mins after we finished our food to get our checks, I would have asked for my check right then with the food order. Lucky for us, a customer she liked came in and we found out her name was Erica. Erica your service tonight on 16SEP2015 at 7:00 pm sucked. The worst I have ever had. If I ever return and see you working, I will turn around and leave straight out. Horrible service tonight.

Without a doubt the worst customer service of any restaurant in Cape Coral. Sad too, because the food is decent. We decided to give this place one more chance after several bad experiences in a row. A bad choice. Walked in at 8:00pm to an empty waiting area. Walked to the hostess station that no one was manning. Stood there for 5 minutes waiting for someone to show up. I could see on the fancy iPad they had to track the number of tables that were occupied that there were 20 tables that were taken and 23 available. When the hostess finally arrived we were told it would be a 20 minute wait for a table. Unacceptable. I will take my appetite for Mexican food elsewhere from now on.

I can't say I've ever had a bad experience at any of the iguana Mia restaurants and today's visit was no exception neither. The server was a little slower than other times but they did appear to be short handed so when he did make his rounds, he made sure there was plenty of chips and salsa to cover the "low" in between visits! In fact there was so many chips and salsa they covered the entire table at one point but we didn't complain! As for dinner I did a combo plate and went with a tex mex enchilada and a grilled chicken chimichanga and asked both to be covered in queso cheese. To compliment both I had yellow rice and pinto beans. When the plate arrived it was on a very wide spread and came out piping hot! Both the chimi and the enchilada tasted perfect and where both seasoned well! The rice and beans tasted spot on as well! Everything was prepared well and tasted the way it should be! Great! I been stopping at iguana mias for years, and I'll continue to do so!

I've had cheaper mexican food, but I would come back here again and again! First time out waitress was very nice and attentive, her and another were also very talkative to us when we were discussing we just moved down here. Was nice to hear things to do. Second time, we sat at the bar and the bartender Shannon (I think?) was VERY nice. She was on top of everything on a busy Friday night bar and just an upbeat person. Food is great too! Get the white queso!! Mmm

My wife and I stopped here to check it out. She had the chicken tacos which she realFood is great, the Chimichangas are delicious and very well portioned. The decor of the restaurant is also great. Someone invested a lot of time and money into the decor and themed it very well. Would definitely be back when in the Cape Coral area. Thanks for the great experience.

Great flavorful food and reasonable prices. Visited while on vacation at our host's suggestion and was a little nervous considering it was a chain, but glad we went. Our server was so friendly and on top of things. The food was fresh, loved the choices of salsas and fresh guacamole made your way. Lots of choices and combo plates to chose from.

My dad and I enjoyed a dinner here while on vacation. The service and food was nice. They provide a large spread of salsas for your chips which was above and beyond any other Mexican restaurant i have been to.

Mixed expectations going in, given the reviews. But the place was packed with locals and had a half hour wait at 6:30 on a Thursday... A good omen. As it turns out, we had a very good meal. The food seemed really fresh. Carnitas and carne Asada in particular were excellent. Fish special was just ok. Food could have been a bit spicier. Good service, and reasonable prices. Restaurant and bathrooms were clean, although one table setting silverware was dirty.

This I have to express I done out a lot but when I visited the iguana Mia in cape coral , I was greeted by a nice young lady , she took my name and said it would be about 20 min , and I can have a drink at the bar and take it on the patio waiting area if I wanted. That was great as I needed a good drink . They had an amazing Margarita For on ly 10 bucks and it was the best I ever had. It wasn't about 18 min Was called to be seated and that was just awesome .I overheard a gentleman complaining about the wait and being rude , but folks should be on the opposite side to understand . Anyway our group was hungry we had fajitas, chimachanga, and couple of rice bowls . Wow Awsomeeee service by Jesus our waiter great guy. I went to the Bonita restaurant it was nice but over here was fantastic , great service, great food and we felt very welcomed here.that guacamole was Awsomeeee, and the queso dip . You will love the food here . I was compled to write as it was so wonderful an experience.

Let's start with the good - - The chips are pretty good for (American) Mexican chips. - The salsa tastes fresh. They give you 3 types of salsa, fresh (mild), medium, & hot (it's VERY hot). - Our server was so friendly & helpful, she truly cared about serving us. And the bad - - The food isn't terrible, but it's not authentic Mexican food at all. - I ordered a chicken burrito with black beans & fried potatoes. The burrito was literally chicken, store bought shredded cheese, & canned refried beans. The black beans came from a can & were dried over. The fried potatoes are from a bag, Taco Bell's potato bowl is better. All served with a pinch of lettuce, 3 cubes of tomato, a picked onion & a random slice of radish. - The Mondays .99 cent margaritas taste like the mix, that's it. I think they might use an eye dropper to put the tequila in. - The chips are hot & taste fresh, but some are so big they're hard to eat. You have to break them up to eat them (trivial, I know). Overall, not a terrible restaurant. Not a good Mexican restaurant. An ok Americanized Mexican restaurant.

Love it here. Every time we come the food is exceptional. I love the flautas and chimichangas. Flavor profiles are wonderful. I am usually a very picky eater by when I order here I can get my entree directly off the menu. Only downfall is that it can be a little pricey. You can expect to spend $50 (including tip) for 2 adults. (No alcohol)

We dined here for a birthday celebration. Little did I know that the birthday girl/boy gets their entree for free which was a lovely surprise! Our server, Shelby, was efficient and so kind. We all really enjoyed the meal. I esp. loved the Patron Margarita and the bottomless chips and salsa. When we are back in town we will definitely visit again. The food was very fresh and thoughtfully prepared.

Mediocre Mexican food across the board. Steak/veggie/chicken fajitas, fish tacos, Refried beans, rice, salsas are all just okay flavored. Not very authentic tasting and on the bland side.

Unfortunately the cleanliness of the restaurant brings down the taste of food. Went for a meal this week, first time in a long time, the food has always been great, however the cleanliness was enough to make me ill. Maybe a remodel is in the near future!

Been to this place two separate occasions. First time was a lot more enjoyable than the second. During the first visit I experienced great service and excellent food but the second was the complete opposite. Waiter barely came to our table and food didn't taste right. Given our first visit we will try again but our expectations have been lowered.

First off, I am a frequent visitor of iguana Mia for margarita Monday. I have never had bad service during those times. Although, my mom and I have ordered chips, salsa and guac to go and had nothing but horrible service. This past visit we called ahead about 5:45 for our normal order. We arrived at 6:07 and waited 10 minutes to even have a bartender look up at us. Finally we told him we had a Togo order and he said it wasn't ready yet. Meanwhile the man next to us had placed an order when we had arrived. Another 10-15 minutes passed and the man next to us received his order which consisted of food you had to actually cook and we still hadn't received ours. 5 minutes later...making it an HOUR after we placed an order for chips, salsa and guac we finally received our order. Iguana Mia has the best guac but I refused to wait an hour for chips, salsa and guac and be ignored.

Homemade chips and salsa complimentary to the meal was really good. I had the taco, tamale and enchilada sampler. All the food was really good. The server I had was great. Super friendly and attentive. He explained all of their different sauces and kept coming back to make sure everything was fine and to make sure I didn't need anything. The price was fair, for $20 including tip I got a lot of food. More food than I probably should have eaten. I can see myself going back when looking for some Mexican.

I have to admit my overall experience here was great. From the welcoming staff to the food, which (in my opinion) was great! Reminded me of when I lived in San Diego and would hop across the border for food and drinks.

Went on a Monday night for a group of 5. The restaurant had a wait of about 30 minutes. The menu is very large and we all really enjoyed our meals. The carne asada was especially good. We also enjoyed the chips and all the different kind of dips you got to try. The margaritas were just OK and the service was very slow. It seemed that the restaurant was understaffed for the night.

Cinco de Mayo celebration with my girls and it was a blast! We were told it would be an hour and a half wait and it turned out to be about 15 minutes. Food was good and our server, Corinne was THE BEST! Funny and polite . Good times great food!

Do I have to leave one star? They wont let me leave any less. CALL AHEAD and make sure Chris isn't behind the bar beforehand if u wanna sit at the bar! One HOUR before we were even asked if we wanted dinner (and that was after he disappeared for 20 minutes)...with empty drinks at every seat. We asked for chips and salsa oh...about 25 min ago....still getting ignored. My husband and I both eat out often and we both have history in the service industry and we are very lenient and understanding when it comes to service but after 105 min of not even being checked on...?...?.???....what a JOKE. FOOD was good, as usual. Experience. ..not so much. I came here to unwind at the bar w/ some drinks after a hard day at work and left more annoyed and belligerent than when I arrived. Oh wow, as I'm writing this I witnessed a customer get upset and walk out because he had been waiting over 15 min for service! I feel better about leaving a bad review after seeing that. ....oh, here's something else as I try to post this...he's complaining LOUDLY and in an unprofessional manner to the customer next to us "I've had it with people right now" & other explicitives. I feel anxious and angry as I leave here, not buzzed off these cheap watered down margaritas.

This is a Cape Coral institution and I've been coming here since I was a kid. When I come back into town to visit family, I make it a must go visit. Because kids....this at one time was one of the few places in town to get real food that was not a fast food chain. Still charming, hostess and staff as good as ever and very charming themselves. We were sat back in an area north of the bar, new for me, sorta a little adobe style bench type place. It was too cold, perhaps just tone down the AC just a notch. The food was great as always, the different type of salsa's to me was new and awesome. I got the carne asada fajitas, a bit too much onions and all else but all in all very good. Thanks as always for a great time. I will mention that for every birthday I ever had at this place, a sombrero was brought out and a Polaroid taken so we could take home. We sat down and they asked if it was a birthday? I thought that was great, it was sadly not. But I do surely hope they keep that tradition where they bring out the big hat and take a photo you can take home. I have five of such of these photos over the years and it really makes me homesick. Much love Iguana!

The trick is to arrive early. We got there a little after 4 on Friday and were seated right away. Service was great and the food very tasty.
(4)Paige S.
Yum, sour cream chicken enchilada is always great! The chips are good but the salsa is pretty bland. The staff is always nice and the waiters and waitresses are super fast and friendly. The birthday celebrations here are super fun, and the margaritas are great! The outside patio is nice during those "Florida winter months." The booths are rock hard, so remember that if they ask what you would like....tables are a better option here.
(4)Michael R.
When the rice & beans are terrible, how can you expect the rest of the food to be good when it comes to Mexican food. Very boring generic American attempt for a Mexican restaurant. The service was excellent & very friendly. Margaritas & chips w/salsa were a good opener but the main event was below average. Majority of the customers were preferring fajitas.....maybe where I missed the boat. How do you serve Carne Asada tacos without any guacamole?? The pork tacos were in a grocery store shell.
(2)Ally P.
Gabriella our server was as top notch as their tequila! Walk in the door and it smells like heaven. Salsa and sauces are divine. Food was delicious and flavored just right. I eat Mexican food any chance I can get and this ranks as one of my new favorites. Tacos and nachos and enchiladas, delish. Go eat there...do not pass go, do not collect $200!
