The East Coast does many things well. Diners are definitely one of them. This little gem set off the beaten path is home to some great home cookin. Like most of Florida, it is a mix of southern tradition and NorthEast Coast transplants and this menu definitely benefits from the integration. It has a great east coast diner sensibility while combining things like... grits. ~shiver~ Its a family-owned joint, the staff are incredibly friendly and often will sit down at your table to chat while taking your order. The crowd is a good mix of locals (always pay attention to where the locals eat) and traveler/tourists. I've been there mainly for brunch, where my ravenous sunday appetite usually demands steak & eggs. However, there's a long (and humorous) menu of Bfast, brunch, & dinners "with all the fixins'"

The Red Gator is my go to diner locally. Its not exactly something special or world class, but its a nice mom and pop style diner. The food is always good and the atmosphere is traditional of a down south family diner. Family owned, if you get the owner or her daughter as your waitress the service will always be good. One waitress is completely lacking in service skill though. All around nice family diner you should try for that southern hospitality feeling.

No frills diner, decent service and good breakfast at a reasonable price.

i like the red gator. i really do. it's not the best food, and it's not always the best service, but its a good place. if the owner or her daughter is your waitress, you will have a great time. they are both sweet, fast, attentive, and overall good at what they do. there is at least one waitress, though, that is lacking in both charm and efficiency. the food is pretty good. i've never had anything i didn't like there, but i've never been wowed, either. it's not the cheapest place around, especially since the portions aren't really huge, but it's not gonna break the bank. i'd recommend eating the specials, since they usually end up being pretty good. but the cube steak is never bad, either. if you're in the area, i'd recommend it, but i wouldnt drive from anywhere far away. definitely wouldn't make the drive all the way from palm coast haha
