New place is beautiful and for the sake of this great community- glad there open again! But our experience didn't match the new decor. I think Papa needs to clean out the kitchen staff and recruit a new team. I ordered chicken Parm. Italian favorite . Just ok. Appears they covered a chicken breast with sauce slapped a piece of cheese on it- heated in the oven. Sauce was very bland. Wife ordered steak, over cooked, no seasoning thus no flavor. Had to be select beef. Charge more and serve USDA Choice. Service ok, I would think if you ordered Italian - the server would offer fresh grated cheese table side. No cheese, even after asking another server. Don't understand that! Consider changing front of the house management as well. No oversight! Overall experience was disappointing. Such a diamond in the rough - get this placed turnaround. I'm a believer in supporting local business- but Carrabba's may win me over going forward! We'll try again in a few months. Good luck.

Nice little Italian American cuisine. For being in the middle of central Florida, it was suitable for the location. If you happen to be in Brooksville, this is a nice place to get some Italian food.

Where to start. We showed up at 6:20pm. Waited and hour to be seated (that part I was expecting). Once seated the waitress was right on top of things. Got our order and drinks. Then it all fell apart. We then waited with my 8 year old son who fell asleep for an hour and a half for our food. An hour and 20 minutes in we told them to bring our check and just box up our food. That took another 10 minutes. We were not offered a comp or anything. So we paid our $50 for our food and left. We used to like Papa Joes and I am very disappointed in them. We will NOT be going back. Oh and the pictures is what we got for that price.

They are open again. The dining room seems much smaller. They staff is very inefficient in moving guests in and out and seemed to not agree a lot. However this is newly opened and may be a result of that. Have ordered takeout once. It was not ready at the time they told me to come. Over an hour.... I had to wait an additional 30 min. Everyone who got their order before mine was screwed up. To make it worse there is no pickup area and only one register for the bar, waitstaff, deli, and pickup area. :-/ pizza was killer! On my last visit we Couldent make reservations and had a 2 hour wait. Ordered. Salad, fried chz, orange roughy (house special), and chicken parm, daily special. Salads were ok but had 3 dressing choices. Nothing special but nothing negative. Fried cheese was under fried and tasted like the oil wasent good. Very mushy and not crisp at all. Seemed rushed. The fresh fruit it came with was only 2 wilted strawberries... Not what I pictured when ordered it. Our bread came out hot and fresh and was served w traditional oil and seasoning however they dident give us plain bread. They sent out garlic bread. Was odd with oil. The chicken parm was good. Well cooked and seasoned however the chicken came out of the kitchen 5 min before the accompanying pasta. Server wasent attentive and left our check 1/2 way thru the meal. My fish dish was a mixed bad. The pasta served with it was awesome and the homemade sauce was great. The fish was flavorful and cooked perfectly. However the breading wasent done at all. Was moist and mushy. Had the consistency and taste of 1/2 done cornbread. Would have been a great dish if it wasent rushed out of the kitchen. We liked this place. Our first visit ever was the day before it burned and we have been waiting to go back for a year! Hope they get it right!

My husband and I went here based on the strong recommendation of a friend. We were really disappointed. Food wise the number one thing that I didn't like was that they don't have wheat pasta. May not matter to most people but I've been trying to eat healthier and switching to wheat everything is something I try to do when possible. I feel that wheat pasta is becoming more popular so I was disappointed that this place doesn't offer that. The food was okay, nothing special, but the main reason my husband and I will never return is the atrocious service. Our waitress kept vanishing, so we had a hard time getting anything we wanted (like water...and napkins). The other waitress was a real downer. She had a frown on her face the whole time and she walked past our table numerous times and always ignored obvious things. We ran out of water and our waitress was nowhere to be found. The other waitress walked by, looked at our water glasses and did nothing. The next time she walked by we had a bunch of dishes on our table and again she did nothing. I was a waitress for six years and was shocked by the total lack of teamwork. We waited for our check for about ten minutes or so but never saw our waitress. We're not the type to sit around restaurants so it's our pet peeve to have to sit around for a long time waiting to pay. My husband eventually hunted down our waitress who was in the back gossiping with a coworker. Overall we'll never give the food another shot because our meal took well over an hour when it should have taken only 20-30 minutes. If I were management I would hire some new servers ASAP.

Good place. Came here iwth a large group and they were more than accomodating. The food is good and the desserts even better. Their menu has plenty of cohoces and if you like italian you will not be disappointed.

I have lived here for 8 years and have eaten here 3 times. Every time has been a big disappointment with a big check. Lots of bread in their meatballs, tomato sauce wasn't good at all, tasted like it was straight out of a can. $20 pizza that's was limp and too garlicky. I can go on and on about the food, but there was nothing I liked about this place at all. They have the atmosphere and food of a 1 star joint but charge the prices of a 4 star. The only people that keep this joint in business are the ones who no longer have taste buds that work. I wouldn't even recommend this place to anyone, even when they have their $.99 pasta deal.

3.5 stars. Come on yelp - get with the .5 stars!! I've been seeing the billboards on the road since 2005, so 6 years later my boyfriend's father finally took us for some dinner. I always say an Italian restaurant is "good" and "authentic" if they have gnocchi. And duhhh they had it. It was very good, but the sauce was a little too "meaty" for me. Trust me, I know a good meat sauce from the 18 years of my life eating it almost every day of the week. You don't have to emphasize the "meat" in the "meat sauce" to prove it's a "meat sauce." ... you feel me? The portion was also a bit too large. Something restaurants fail to understand is that although gnocchi is smaller pasta the filling on the inside makes it very difficult to eat a lot of it. I would much rather have a smaller portion and be able to finish my plate and save room for dessert. Speaking of dessert, Papa Joe's also had delicious cheesecake! My boyfriend had the Manicotti for dinner and for me, there was not enough sauce. The Garlic bread also needed more butter and less "herb." The service was very good. Our Drinks were always full but the fish tanks looked a bit "tragic." All in all, I would return here again if back in Brooksville for another extended stay. It was a nice restaurant with a good hometown feel. I overheard THE Papa Joe say he's been there for 30 years - so that's pretty cool. :)

This is the first time we have been here in ages, following a couple of bad experiences. Either they have greatly improved, or we had a fluke good time. Cold beer glasses are always a plus, but these were better than usual when paired with really cold beer. Roasted garlic as an appetizer was only so-so. I would not recommend it. The surf and turf pasta was really good. I stuffed myself trying to get all of the noodles in, as the sauce clinging to them was divine. My wife ordered the veal picatta, which was very tasty. She only let me try a bite, which is saying something. I will go back now, and am really glad we gave them another chance. If the next visit is as good as this, we will be regulars.

Coming back from a long trip to Georgia and noted Papa Joe's in brooksville. I should have kept driving to Carrabbas the chicken cognac I had at papa joes was terrible and certainly do not recommend. Soup was fine but all in all the service was lacking and the experience was not good. Obviously a two star with 4 star prices. Stick with Carrabbas.

Well looky here, I'm the first to review Papa Joes! This restaurant is sort of unique, as it has a deli (take-out counter for meats, cheese, sausages, etc) along with the dining room, and a gift shop! We went here for Paul and Ann's anniversary dinner. There was 4 of us on a Tuesday night, and surprisingly, even with the stormy weather, the restaurant was pretty busy. We sat near the salt water fish tank, and service was pretty attentive. Our waitress was nice and helpful. Portions are very, very big. The flavors of the dishes were good too. I had the prawns and sausage pasta. They used big prawns and big chunks of italian sausage. The sauce was delicious. Definitely not helpful with my trying-to-lose-those-last-15-pounds, but hey, we were on vacation. Paul got the chicken picatta, I think that is what it was called but it reminded me of chicken marsala. Ann got soup and a sald, and Erin got the Chicken Soprano. It must have been good because I don't think he even offered me a taste. They have a pretty big wine list too. Overall, I enjoyed dining here and would be back again when I'm in Brooksville again!

What a treat! A good Italian restaurant in Booksville! The food was flavorful and the portions were VERY ample. The calimari appetizer was different - different as in good! Instead of your typical fried calimari, this was sauteed in tomato sauce and served. A little heavy on the garlic, but if everyone at the table is partaking.... no need to worry about the garlic. Some of my dinner companions had a sampler plate and that was a smart choice. Not a single item on the sampler plates looked questionable - and nobody left anything on the plate. I had the chicken piccata and it was different that what I am used to, but it was super yummy. I also had a side of a meatball, which was good - but doesn't compare to my grandmother's - I'm spoiled on meatballs. The garlic bread was free flowing and the server kept our glasses full - which wasn't an easy task for a party of 8. One of the mixed drinks someone ordered came out as a large shot... which was a surprise. Almost too good of a surprise - it was to strong. We had to order a soda and mix it in to thin it out a little. Desserts were very tempting, but we were so stuffed. I hope to visit again. It was well worth it.

Got the Lasagna to go. Overpriced, small portion and not very good. They do an annual $1 spaghetti night and I would guess it's worth $1 because I need to dodge pedestrians for a 1/4 up Spring Lake Hwy when they host this event. Still don't see myself going back here though.

passed here a few times finally came and checked it out. Located in a country setting a pretty yet rustic restaurant. Food was unique like nothing I had ever had at an italian restaurant. Service was good. Leftover Mediterranean bruschetta passed the day old test with flying colors. Best Italian restaurant I have been to in a long time. I definatly will go out of my way to come back.

Was glad to see the restaurant reopen after the fire. Loved the improvements to the décor and layout out the building. Ordered the pizza and was surprised to find it was slightly smaller than it used to be with a very strong garlic taste to the sauce. The staff on the other hand left a lot to be desired. There were only two of us in our party so it seemed that to our waitress we didn't need or deserve as much attention as the larger tables. Our drink glasses sat empty on the edge of the table for over 10 minutes while ever member of the wait staff including the busboy and hostess walked by several times never asking if we needed refills. We had to go to the bar to get our check since our waitress never brought it. As much as we used to enjoy dining here, we won't return!

I remember this restaurant from my childhood. The food is really, really good and the owners are super nice. I also used to work there as a teen. My family still gathers here whenever everyone mostly out of state comes to visit my parents. The calzones are the best I've ever had.

I had the mussels in white sauce - very nice presentation but the mussels were overcooked (huge disappointment) , there was no detectable wine in the sauce; didn't taste real butter but chicken bullion? Asked for a fresh pepper grinder to be brought to the table but the server said they don't have any that it's on a list in the back and other customers ask for it too. The little lady had chicken parm and that was small, with only a half of a chicken breast, but good. You have to pay a small amt. for a side/dinner salad which does come with some mixed greens (not iceburg only) but make sure you order your dressing on the side as our salads were drenched with dressing. Garlic bread is served (you can ask for more too) and it's ok - not sure if they use real butter but nice bread, tasty. Our server, Mona Lisa, was polite and since we didn't go at their busiest times, attended to our needs in a timely manner. Our second visit - first time there for dinner I had the sausage and peppers which were just - ok. My wife had repeat. Next we'll try some pizza.

I'm basing this review on a Takeout order only instead of an actual eat in dinner. Tonight I was desperate for a steak hoagie and haven't been too thrilled lately with the old stand by places I go to. I decided to head out the other direction (Instead of towards Spring Hill) and see what Papa Joe's was like. I was disappointed that their online menu doesn't have the prices listed and the togo person I spoke too didn't seem to thrilled to have to repeat multiple prices to me since they aren't listed on line. I ended up going for the basic Steak and Cheese Hoagie and the Appetizer order of Clams. The Hoagie was $5.95 which is a great value considering the quality of the roll and the quantity of the steak, plus it even came with a bag of Lay's chips. It tasted really flavorful and it's probably the best Hoagie I've had in this area. I asked about the clams on the phone and was told it would be a dozen. I ordered them in the white wine/butter sauce with the red sauce on the side. The order only included 10 clams instead of the dozen, maybe it might sound nitpicky but it's 20% less than I was quoted and the sauce was really greasy and lacking of flavor. The clams themselves were fresh and tender but the oily greasy sauce wasn't my taste. I wouldn't order them again or anything else with that sauce since it truly wasn't my taste. I will say that the pickup window had a view of the kitchen and all the food items looked really great and the portion sizes were large (that's a plus in my book). The kitchen also appeared to be very clean. I'm anxious to get takeout from them again and possibly even order a pizza since they looked really fabulous from the kitchen view. 07/31/12*Here's an update since I originally wrote the review. It seems I've become addicted to the hoagies and they really are quite fabulous. I purchased them more than once this week and also shared with a friend who also raved about them. On the down side I got a pizza tonight and I thought it was awful. They described it as a hand tossed but the crust was thick and bread like. The sauce was acidic and the cheese was not heavy enough for my liking. Only the bottom 2/3 of the pizza actually had cheese on it and the top 1/3 was totally void of cheese. Honestly the crust was thick and tough and I won't be ordering a pizza from them any time soon :( Now to figure out what to do with the leftoever pizza that's in my fridge.

Nice Italian restaurant a bit of a surprise for the location. A little too heavy on the salt but tasty fare overall. clams could be bigger. Cannoli while tasty was not a real cannoli. Very nice and accommodating help. Definitely not as affordable as I thought it would be.

I enjoyed dinner at Papa Joe's this evening. They were busy, but the wait was only about 15 minutes. Meanwhile they were offering samples of the house wine and gourmet cookies in the gift shop while we waited. The dinner was served rather quickly, but the food was really good. The service was good, it was like everyone who worked there was watching all the tables to make sure everyone was happy. We would definitely go back again.

Stopped in to get a pizza around 2pm. Took a while for the waitress to come over. We ordered the pizza 40 minutes go by no pizza. My husband flags down the waitress to see why it is taking 45 min for a pizza. She tells him the first one was burnt so they had to remake it. it would have been nice for her to tell is this in the beginning. She offers us bread. 10min later still no bread or pizza. We were so disgusted we got up and left, passing the waitress with just the bread. So just shy of an hour to get nothing. Very poor staff in the kitchen and on the floor no excuse for this wait only 2 tables in the entire place.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
