The wait staff is very friendly and efficient. Drinks and food came out quickly. The food on the other hand was mediocre at best. The Kanisu salad was supposed to have cucumber instead they'd been sitting in vinegar so long they were pickled. Definitely not what it used to be. For a Saturday night at 8pm expected a much larger crowd. Only 2 other tables were taken when I arrived. I had the volcano, Mumbo jumbo, and the bagel with fresh salmon. The volcano used to be huge, not the case anymore. Don't think I'll be back for the sushi. Very disappointed.

Ok place. Not really impressed except for the outdoor area. Very large outdoor area with a separate bar. Service was quick and drinks were decent. Inside was a little dingy but not divey. People watching wasn't that great since it wasn't very crowded. On a Saturday night. So I'm assuming this isn't one of the more popular bars in Brandon. Oh, plus the only food this place has is sushi. This isn't New York, people. If this place wants to survive, I highly recommend ditching the strictly sushi menu and expand it to normal bar food. The only difference between two stars and three stars is the nice outdoor deck. But as it stands, I'm not making any effort to return.

Sushi is really good! And they stay open late as well. They also have a good selection of alcoholic beverages!
(5)Josh M.
The specialty sushi rolls here are awesome! We go most Wednesday's and they're half price that day!

I really like the rack. We haven't been there in a long time, but not because it's not good. It's a great place for nightlife. Good drink prices and great ambiance. I've had a lot of their sushi but it's overly expensive for what it is. There is a bit of an older crowd but that's Brandon. Overall I really enjoy this location. It's a fun place to have a night out. Also, it's fine for kids up until maybe 8pm, after that it's more of a bar atmosphere and I really wouldn't be comfortable taking my kids there. Also there is a large patio outside which is nice especially in Brandon.

Don't go here. We had my birthday dinner here...my table got seated, half my table got their food 15 minutes in, the other half....an entire hour later. Half my table finished eating and had left, we had to call the manager over to see why an hour later we still didn't have food. Also our tables weren't bussed properly and the feet of the table were so shaky we kept spilling our drinks. The manager gave us a gift card for 25 off OUR NEXT VISIT. Yeah right like I'm gonna visit again. And to top it off they forgot to transfer my bar tab to my table like they said they would and I woke up the next day to a unclosed bar tab fee on my account. I now have to go out of my way and print out a bank statement, drive there at 6 since that is the only time they can see me and get my money back. Whoever is managing this place should be embarrassed....

Definitely not a fan. Sushi was extremely "fishy" and they messed up my husband's order. We decided to go somewhere else for dinner and it took them 20 min to get our check. Drinks are overpriced. Atmosphere was okay.
(1)Allison M.
I love the Rack. They have expanded their menu from when they first opened and the food is really good. The sushi is great (though a little pricey) and i've had the potstickers and some pasta that was great also. I wish that people would use it as a bar/hangout spot more often though because most of the time it's really dead any night besides Friday. The all you can drink for $10.00 on Friday from 8-10 is great though. It would be neat if they had a few more bar games there like beer pong. There's one bartender that is really great and attentive I've had the last 2 Fridays, but I don't recall her name.

My wife and some friends of ours came here for their burger and sushi night and the food was fantastic. Our server was a little weak and her attitude was terrible, also some questionable people there lol but I suppose that is subjective. The previous two reasons were why it did not get five stars, that could change the next time we go if we get a decent waitress. The sushi was impressive coming from a pool-hall or dive bar, whatever this is considered. It was some of the best sushi I have had in Tampa to be quite honest. The waitress kept my beer coming for the most part and she put in one of my orders late which honestly in the grand scheme wasn't a big deal. I tried some of my wife's burger and it was cooked well and tasted great, the fries were excellent as well. The environment is great and you can see the sushi bar at work which was cool (and standard at most sushi restaurants). Overall it was quite a nice experience. Will go back and recommend to friends.
(4)Matthew W.
Went to the rack for some sushi tonight they had 50% off specialty sushi rolls after seven, I got the B-52 and the Shang ri la both were fantastic but I would give the edge to the Shang ri la as being the better roll they also had good drink specials. The wait on sushi when we got there was one hour but I don't believe we waited that long we had a drink or two and chatted it up and before you realize it the rolls are finished. Our waitress was friendly, helpful and efficient.
(4)Sam H.
This is a great place to hang out with friends and have a drink, but the service is not great. I usually wait a long time for food but my worst experience was my last when I ordered one sushi roll to-go and was there for almost two hours. The bartender offered me a free "shot" because he felt bad but unfortunately I was just interested in getting the heck out of there.
(3)Justin M.
Been several times on Sunday nights for hospitality night (if you work in the hospitality industry and have proof, you get half off!) the sushi is good "Americanised" Sushi, Drinks are standard and service has been great the few times I've been. I highly recommend the dynamite roll. It looks a but different, but the crab salad on top is to die for!!!
(4)Jennifer B.
I went to The Rack for sushi and time with friends. The service was great, but I wasn't really too impressed by anything else. I would say that everything I had was average. Also, it was my first time there and their setup just seems really off to me. There is an outdoor sitting area, an inside bar area, and inside game area and then the dining area. The Rack doesn't make it too simple to figure out where to go and who to see to be seated in the dining area.
(3)SunBarTanningSaloon M.
We LOVE The Rack!! Great experience every time we go. The bartenders are awesome, and they always make sure you are taken care of. The food is great, really good sushi and amazing specials everyday. If you have never been we absolutley recommend to go and try them out.
(5)Jessica E.
After looking at the menu online I was really excited to come here, but once I arrived I was deeply disappointed to find that their intentionally all female staff was forced to dress like knock off hooters girls, which is incredibly skeezy and distasteful, and they were blasting trashy pop death metal loud enough to curl the ears of anyone with a hint of culture or taste. The food was ok but overpriced. The clientele to be avoided at all costs. All in all, this place is very...Brandon.
(2)Essie A.
The Rack is great in a sense that there's a place open late in Brandon for people to hang out and get drinks. However, there's a lot wrong with this place. First of all, service isn't really great here ... literally, we sat in the dining room and waited about 20 min and nobody came to greet us or anything. So we walk out to the patio to sit outside... and although we are greeted and a waitress took our order... the atmosphere outside was really drab. It was also kind of dirty and the tables/chairs are really cheap looking and uncomfortable to sit in. so... we move back into the dining room and got our food there. Basically, we had to go out to the patio to get service and then move into the dining room ... so what I've learned is to sit outside and then move inside! we ordered sushi, which was good but just a bit expensive... but I come from California and sushi is easier to come by ... but i still thought that the sushi at the Rack was a bit expensive for the quality. the good parts about this place is that the inside is well decorated and very beautiful. and there's plenty of parking. and it's opened late!
(2)Amanda Z.
Imagine my confusion when my friend pulls up to a place called "The Rack" and it is nowhere nearby The Rack I remembered from previous visits. Turns out there's another one. Yay for those in the Brandon-area! The patio is under construction which will be lovely for those pleasant Florida evenings. While I didn't spend a ton of time here, the two vodka sodas I imbibed erased the sting of a painful flight involving a screaming baby, loud sorority girls and a clap-laugher. (P.S. I think you Tampa-ites need to get on the yelp-bandwagon.)
(3)Martina K.
Sunday nights are fun and I enjoy meeting new people!!! Genie is an awesome bartender love her she's fast paced and attentive! Some of the other bartenders have no sense of urgency and don't smile . I understand when it gets busy but sometimes just a simple smile of acknowledgment is great :).... And Reese the bouncer is awesome and sexy! The bathrooms could be kept up a bit more and there is a bad smell that lingers.... I'm not a big sushi fan but when Marc was there I tried it for the first time and it was great he made sure to pick something I'd like and made it to perfection!
(3)Sydney S.
My friends and I really enjoy the rack. On Wednesday nights they have a band on the outside deck and the specialty sushi rolls are half off. Get there a bit early though on Wednesdays because it does get crowded. The sangria is great, clean environment, and majority of the servers are good.
(4)Genaro B.
Our server was attentive and nice. They have great drink specials. The sushi was not good. Most of the sushi has cream cheese in it. And there's little fish in the rolls. We went on half off speciality sushi roll night. I'm glad we did bc we couldn't even taste the fish in the rolls. We also ordered sake bombs. We found fruit flies in the sake before we were going to drink the last sip. It was very gross. We lost our appetite and didn't finish the rolls. At least the server took the sake off the bill.
(1)Rob C.
I've been going there for a few years now with my wife...great prices great specials...the sushi is really good and there's something addicting about their chicken tenders (seriously). The crowd isn't a typical 21 yr old I'm-drunk-let's-fight group of idiots that frequent most bars in this area. ERIN IS AWESOME lemme just make that crystal clear....she's a bartender there usually at the outside bar and she treats my wife and I like family....I'll go back solely because of her.
(5)Mark H.
Still not the best place to shoot pool or chew the fat while smoking cigars, but LIGHT YEARS better than the location in Hyde Park. Why? Because the seating area is vast, parking is plentiful and the tables aren't ass-to-elbow. All in all, the facility is just plain ole bigger than the HP location. My main problem with this spot though was the damn SMELL! The entire bar are smelled like someone mopped the floor with vomit. It was disgusting, and someone should do something about that. I brought it to the attention of two workers, and their response was pretty much like, "Yeah we know.. it's just the bar."
(3)Phuong L.
I used to go to the south Tampa's location. But since it closed, this is my new spot. The last few times I've been there it seems like the portion is getting smaller and smaller for sashimi. I kid you not, an order if sashimi was three pieces that was just slightly bigger than a half dollar coin. Quite disappointed. Services is alright.
(1)Tommy W.
Good food and they play some awesome music on Sundays. If you work in the restaurant industry You are qualify for 50% off your bills everyday Sunday. What a deal. Request Paulina as your waitress.
(5)Katrina P.
I used to go to the Rack in South Tampa off of Platt and was excited when a year or so ago there was one opening here in Brandon, Florida. It's become a local hangout that we frequent a lot! Atmosphere: laid back with a nice area for sitting in the back if you want a sit-down dinner with sushi. A bar sits in the middle of the restaurant with plenty of room. There's also an area for billiards and darts. There's even a Wii room! I've been to after-work functions here and there is something for everybody! Food: The food selection at the Rack has somethng for everyone. There's even special nights, like our fave - Crab leg Monday for $15 , each day of the week. I really love the Ty Cobb salad and the Kani Su salad. The Kani Su is a mix of marinated cucumber along with crabmeat. My husband loves the Kani su as well along with their assortment of sandwiches. I've seen an updated menu lately that now has more stir fry and entree options aside from sandwiches and appetizers Price: VERY affordable. Entree prices range from $7-13. This a great, low key, place to hang out and eat with friends for sure!
(4)Amy S.
I'm not gonna lie, this bar is pretty all over the place. It's a sports bar with an outside patio, a Wii-room, Billards and ping pong tables, a lounge, a dining room and here's the interesting part, there's an actual sushi bar in the back too. It's an American bar with bar-food, yet it is known for it's sushi. I went Wednesday night which was $5 Volcano Roll night. It was also Biker night, there were some dudes selling cigars by the front door and they were featuring live music on the patio. Uhm. I think this place has some self-esteem issues... it's trying to please a lot of different types of people. Allow me to briefly touch on some stand-outs on the menu: Wings, Nachos, Sliders, Cuban Sandwiches, Grouper, Beef Tenderloin Wraps, Cheese Steak, Salads, Vegetable Soup and Two pages of a variety of Sushi rolls ranging from $3.95 for a cucumber roll to a tempura lobster roll (12 pieces) at 16.95. They also have Sashimi (a bit over priced) and Lava Cake. It's not your standard sushi. There are rolls which have chicken and most have cream cheese and/or avocado or imitation crab meat. I'm not saying they aren't good, but it's more like bar food-sushi. Don't expect anything life changing. Have a few drinks, come for the specials, watch a game or play some games and chill with your picky eater-type friends. Tip: Unlimited Menu is actually kinda rad. Monday - Thursday 7PM to 9Pm in Tampa, 9PM to 11PM in Brandon, $20 gets you an unlimited amount of small plates, sushi, wine, draft beer, and drinks.

I will never go to this place again. My buddy spent 140.00 dollars for taking us out in celebration and for no reason at all the bouncer grabbed him because he pounded his fist on the bar because he had no idea the bar tab was going to be so high. They grabbed him and threw him out of the front door then took my girlfriend out with him. I had no idea what in the world was going on then they grabbed me and bruised my ribs when they grabbed me and I was asking what is going on and the bouncer said I was guilty by association. I did nothing. Last time I step foot in that hell hole.

I have been here twice now. The first time was GODAWFUL. Honestly. i couldn't stand anything about our experience. That said, I followed it up with a second visit just recently. The first time I'd gone they'd just opened, now they've settled into themselves a little better. We were in on a Monday night which is pretty slow, but our server was attentive, the beer was flowing and the sushi tasted pretty good. Good company and an empty belly? Yeah, not too shabby of a night. I'd be willing to give it another shot and maybe review it to a 4-star.

The Rack has been in Brandon for quite some time now and although I live out here, I didn't make it a point to stop here...visiting the one in South Tampa more often. I visited The Rack earlier tonight and the experience was pretty disappointing. The main thing The Rack has going for it is that it is perhaps the only late-night sushi spot in Brandon. The Brandon location is larger than the South Tampa location, but loses all the ambiance of the original in favor for a more upscale kind-of-lounge feel. Unfortunately, it also loses the friendly-atmosphere and employees you find at the SoHo location as well. We entered around 10PM and the place was only slightly packed. We grabbed a table in the restaurant side and the waitress immediately left a sour taste in our mouths (she didn't seem to want to be there). My friend signed up for their mobile mailing service and received a text message for a free drink and the waitress almost ignored his inquiries about how much the message was worth. She evaded this until the check was closed and then proclaimed it was too late to do anything about it. The Manager wasn't much more help and his demeanor was like that of a bouncer, not welcoming and almost confrontational. Now I can understand there is some confusion when it comes to mobile deals (especially in large franchise chains, such as Chili's and their Foursquare deal). However, there are only 2 locations at The Rack so I don't really see how they can make such an issue over a deal they opt to provide customers. Indeed, we seemed to be getting treated different because we are younger. The waitress seemed to be hovering over us and honestly if it wasn't for her and the crappy service and dead crowd, we might have actually had fun and enjoyed our night here. We ordered a good amount of food and drinks. The $5 Three Olive Bomb special was satisfactory and went down well. I special ordered a Salmon Roll and it ran me about $7.45. The salmon was fresh and the avocado was great as well. The sushi was perhaps the best part of our experience (although it is pricey, at least they make it good). We split a Small Deuce ($10.95), an assortment of appetizers: crab rangoon, coconut shrimp, chicken tender, and fusion rolls. The menu says it can feed 2-3 and I would say it can feed either one hungry person, or two people just snacking. You would really need to upgrade to the next size for 3 or more (add $8). The food came out quick and the best days to come to The Rack are definitely Tuesdays/Thursdays for the $20 all you can eat and drink special (cash only) from 9-11PM or on Wednesdays for their $5 Volcano Rolls. Otherwise, you are better off going to Samurai Sushi for some cheap eats in Riverview. It costs $8 an hour to play pool and there was a good amount of tables there. You won't have much of a problem grabbing a table (you sometimes can't dream of grabbing one in South Tampa because it is really packed). Overall, I prefer The Rack location in South Tampa. It is more lively, the people working and crowd are very friendly and it is the kind of place you can strike up a conversation with anyone. The Brandon location made everyone look disconnected and the lack of people there on a Friday night was pretty surprising. The food lives up to the name and it is convenient to Brandon residents, but for the full experience, I would recommend driving out to South Tampa and visiting The Rack there.

I was extremely confused when I arrived here for an early dinner. The Rack was a sushi joint and a billiard hall. Sushi and billiards didn't mix in my head, but as we opened the door, my expectations were completely erased. The interior was relatively classy and upscale, and the pool tables had their own soundproofed walls, so they were muted in the dining area. The walls and decor had a modern touch, and the servers were attentive. We had Leila and she was great. The family sat down and received drinks within 10 minutes and a plate of appetizers were served in reasonable time. The salmon carpaccio and 2 rolls came up, then the rest of our orders followed suit. We had the nachos (loaded with everything), 2 slider platters, and more sushi rolls. Drinks were constantly refilled which was awesome (since nachos were a bit salty) The sushi was fresh and executed properly, the sriracha pepper sauce was a nice touch to the plates; a different flavor to the palate (I don't know if this is a no-no for sushi traditionalists, lol). The salmon carpaccio although refreshing, could have used a better cut since the fatty salmon was overpowering. The sauce struggled to keep up with it, especially since the cuts were a bit large. Maybe slicing smaller or thinner portions of less fattier salmon would have helped. The sliders were a perfect size, we had 2 plates, the crab and pulled pork sliders. They came in threes along with fries. The sliders were done just right, and the pulled pork slider had a sweet tangy sauce accompanying it. I mentioned sweet cuz that's all I could think of. The fries helped tone that down. The crab was perfect. Lastly the nachos- they could have been drained better. The center of the platter seemed soaked with oil, and with the additional cheese, it was heavy. We ended up having to use our chopsticks to pry them apart which gives my approval on eccentricity. Sorry for guests who don't know how to use chopsticks, a fork would suffice but not fun. Fingers are your last option. Lastly, I had a surprise after washing up in the restroom. Towel service! I definitely wasn't expecting that, not from a billiard hall, not from a sushi joint, not from a burger/nachos joint- most of all, not from all the above combined! That definitely capped off the experience I had. I give the food and service 4 out of 5 (our waitress was being trained, so we had a fair amount of attention) and the location and amenities a 4.5 out of 5 I came in with mediocre expectations (not knowing the place or area), entered with confusion, sat in contemplation, ate with gusto and left satiated, fulfilled and corrected. I would go back again next time I'm in the Tampa area-
(4)Nickk S.
My wife and I enjoy coming here to play pool and have drinks with friends. Its great for both of those things but the bill can get out of hand if you aren't paying attention haha. Nothing fancy, but a good place to hang out for a couple hours
(3)Theresa M.
I love The Rack on Sundays, for hospitality night... I definitely wouldn't pay normal prices though. They always have a band when I'm there, and pool tables... I've had their wings which are surprisingly good, and sushi is pretty good too.
(4)Aurora O.
Not too impressed. I went to check it out because I wanted sushi and my friends wanted to play pool. Service was OK. The menu not very impressive. Nothing really caught my eye and the sushi left much to be desired and the prices are expensive.
(2)Collin S.
It's not nearly as fun or awesome as their location on Platt St., and gives a totally different vibe. They do have some drink specials, but if you're not ordering off that list the drinks certainly aren't cheap (as one of our dining compatriots with a $65 booze tab can attest), and the food is pretty borin and not great by any stretch. We were there on a Wednesday, which I guess is biker night. I don't know how that changes or affects things, but it certainly seemed like the crowd was a bit rougher around the edges than you'd find some other places. However this is Brandon, so the vibe is different than other neighborhoods (that's not a knock on Brandon... it's just more family and strip-mall suburban). I had fun, but wasn't exactly taking pictures and planning my next trip back. I can't speak to the sushi, but the bar food is standard Sysco-drag-and-drop cuisine for which all you need is a deep fryer and a salamander. You'll be just as well off eating at any one of the 500 other options on Route 60 right around you. Which is a shame, because you'd hope a local business in the middle of all that chain restaurant sprawl would be able to provide something different.
(3)Jacquie P.
Witnessed a waitress drop the top from the soy sauce she was refilling on the floor, put the cap back on, and return it to the table. Made me lose my appetite, and I left. Gross.
(1)Katie B.
Strongbow: check. Need I go on? Oh, a bit more? All right. I came in on a Friday night when it was fairly busy and sat outside. The server was quick to approach us and provided friendly and attentive service. The crab rangoon was good and I was impressed to see a restaurant that switched up the shape of those tricky treats. The usually pinched and four-cornered snack makes it more difficult to chow down, but The Rack had them compacted into manageable bites. Kudos for your creative thinking. I stayed outside so I can't really comment on the rest of the place, but I was happy they kept Strongbow on hand. Overall it was a good experience and I'll probably find myself hanging out there again.
(3)Laura S.
For what it is supposed to be, the Rack in Brandon delivers. It is a bar, with bar food, outside seating, pool room, Bike night on Weds, etc etc etc. Exactly what I expected. I was there on Weds night, which was Bike Night, and it was hopping! Outside there was a number of vendors catering to the clientele of the evening, and I counted approximately 50 bikes parked outside. It was pretty hot and humid, so we got a table inside. Hanging out was Collin S, Nicole L, and BoBo!!! We got some typical apps (Nacho's, Queso Dip) and got our drink on. Beer is reasonable, liquor is not. One Jaegermeister shot was $8.50. BoBo's drink tab was $65 when we left. Not cheap, to say the least.
(3)Chris F.
awesome place, gr8 staff, the barman Ryan was awesome!
(4)Sam T.
A great place to pop your collar and act douchey. D-bags work there, d-bags flock there. Bartender was more interested in talking about his swag with his bro than actually getting drinks for the other side of the bar. It wasn't busy, maybe 8 people at the bar, and I noticed only 3 had full drinks, and no one had been checked on. Maybe I should have worn a pastel colored shirt, or some affliction gear. Went again about a week ago under duress with a friend for hospitality night and the service was much better, despite there being a full bar, but the vibe was still frat-tastic. The lady bartender was very efficient and friendly. I had some sushi which even discounted was not worth the cost, I could have got that at publix. I understand it is probably better when not on "special" however, this is not the place that I would go to to get my sushi fix. Two star rating is becasue they had a negative one star, if possible, after my initial visit and assuming I was pretending to be a critic on yelp at that time, as I am new to this yelp thing, and apparently typing reviews. Hence, the long sparatic sentances.
(2)LifeLover L.
its the ONLY place in brandon to hang out! the sushi is okay, the Wii room is cool, the pool tables are cool. The wings are pretty good. Be prepared for a looooong wait if you are dining. Oh! and Be prepared for this "toilet" smell when you walk in, too.
(3)M P.
Fun place to visit when I am in town. I only ate there once and had a burger and it was pretty good. Nice bar though with a very diverse group of people. Nice big patio area which is fun to hang out and drink a beer on.
(4)S S.
I've ordered from here a few times; this time being the last. Can someone please explain why they insist on serving sub-par Publix grade sushi?
(2)Dwanna W.
When I first moved to Florida this was the first location I found to hang out at. Staff is friendly, The sushi is great! however the bathrooms smell like vomit everytime i went there. They do have great deals for drinks for the ladies.
(4)Shazia T.
i would have given 2 stars, but service was so crappy i'm taking off a star. our waitress was nice, but was very slow. we tried to flag down another waitress and she was clearly ignoring us. we ordered sushi and it was brought out without any chopsticks or soy sauce. my friends ordered hot drinks and it did not come out hot. i miss sushi, but will have to wait till i'm in ATL to satisfy this craving.
(1)Kyle S.
On the plus side, they do All you can Sushi and Beer night, 20$. Overall though the experience is kinda meh. It's unoffensive but nothing really strikes you as memorable, except a couple of entrees that have quite a bit of interest (Screaming Delight).
(3)Joel D.
Food was decent and the prices weren't too bad. The staff didn't pay much attention to us. They did have a wide selection of sushi and other foods.
(3)Desiree D.
I came here last Sunday for Hospitality night and was actually pleasantly surprised there was a Sunday event this size in Brandon. The weather was nice so the patio was packed. The DJ was great at keeping the party going and the bartenders were attentive and friendly. They even had a. Separate dining area for late night munchies which was nice. By the end of the night, there a lot of people probably feeling a little too good, so I really hope they didn't have to wake up early for work lol. Also, they do not do a "soft close". When those lights come on, you better be out the door. Completely understandable however, people will keep the party going on as long as possible. There were some people trying to drive their cars fast around the parking lot after, however it looked like the cops got on that debauchery quick. All in all if you want to party in Brandon on Sunday, this is definitely the place. Otherwise, you will absolutely have to go to Tampa. This kind of makes me want to start bartending again so I can reap the benefits of the hospitality card! 50% is not bad.... I will probably be back here again soon. I will probably come earlier for lunch to try the food to start my Sunday Funday!
(3)Diane G.
A nice place to meet up with friends on the weekend. I have been here maybe a half dozen times, usually as a bar patron, but I have also dined here on two or three occasions. My last visit I came to eat with friends, and upon entering the restaurant there was a terrible odor between the hostess station and bar. It reminded me of the smell of water mixed with sludge that has been washed away from a bar floor and onto the street gutters on a Sunday morning. The smell was very faint where we were seated, and gone before our food arrived, but it was awful and lingered in my nostrils for a while. We mentioned it to our server, who said she did not notice it (perhps her nose had become accustomed to it). I have had sashimi and several of their sushi rolls, and all were very good. My favorite would have to be the Tempura Bagel, although it would have been much more enjoyable without that odor.
(3)Ian S.
This place, without the staff, gets 2 stars from me. Walked in on Saturday night at 7:50, noticed they had 3 pool tables, 1 of which was covered with an old, net-less ping pong surface. It's called "The Rack", and they have 3 tables? Strike 1! We were told a party was coming in at 8, most likely, and they would take all the tables. We asked if we could play until they arrived and we'd leave. Never happened, the party didn't show. The tables have been through a lot. Drink (hopefully) stains were scattered across the table. And some of the balls were missing chunks. Yep. The girls were nice though, and kept the beers coming, so an extra star for them. Didn't *dare* try the sushi....

When we went to the Rack in Brandon FL it was a bad experience when staff ignored obvious problems with patrons who brought in their barking dog that was bothering a lot of people. The staff just said it was a cute little dog and did not ask the dog owners to leave. Hearing a barking dog during dinner is not a good dining experience. The managers should resolve situations that are disturbing people's dining experience.

Really love coming to the rack. They have awesome specials but I'm a little disappointed with a few things. 1.) where are all the pool tables ??!?! There used to be way more and now they only have 3? It's suppose to pool hall. 2.) asked for ID so many times. I completely understand keeping out underage but even when I wasn't drinking I got asked for my ID. 4 times in one hour. That's a bit ridiculous. Maybe they need to come up with some armband at the door or something. Other then those 2 things I absolutely love this place. The wait staff is always awesomeness and attentive the drinks are good and their food is pretty great as well. Defiantly a great place to hang out with friends

HORRIBLE! Wow, where do i start? So it's called "The Rack" and listed under Pool Halls and in a few searches for best pool hall in Tampa area this place came up. So us being out of town took that as a sign we should play some pool here, especially since we like Sushi as well. BIG MISTAKE! First off they only have 3.....yes I said only 3 pool tables. My pool stick alone cost more than the pool tables at this place. Not to mention the tables were dilapidated and beat to hell. Not to mention when we got there we couldn't figure out where the hell to wait for a server or ask someone where the tables were at. Finally a random waitress came up to us and helped point us to the tables and the one she gave us already had the balls in the pockets. Of which we were missing a 9 ball and had two 4 balls. The tables are horrible and some of the balls had chunks missing in them from being dropped or popped off the table. Overall the place is a complete dive, the staff is ok, and with the condition of everything there was no way in hell we wanted to risk trying the food. Advice to the owners.... If your going to advertise as a pool hall and call yourself "The Rack" along with a billiards type logo as your company logo then get some decent pool tables and keep them up! Otherwise ditch them and just be a run down divey bar.

The Rack is an odd concoction of billiards, bar, and sushi restaurant. The first time I went I actually had no idea they served sushi. It doesn't look remotely Asian persuasion. I'd say the main attraction is the drinking, since they do have great drink specials. This place is loud as there are games, and a jukebox blaring pop and country sounds... Not exactly the place to get your zen on with raw goodies. The sushi menu is way more appetizing to read than to feast upon. I thought my rolls were way too small for the prices, and a bit "fishy" flavored to boot. This combo just didn't work for me. Kind of why great sushi joints don't have pool tables or try to make hamburgers.

Even when the Rack in Hyde Park was open, I have always preferred this location. This is due to several reasons: there are less douchetards, this location is very spacious, and there is plenty of parking! Since my friend lives in Brandon, it was also my turn to drive to his side of town, so this was an easy place to meet. They don't have the best sushi in town, but they definitely have great drink specials. When I walked in, my friend was already partaking in a $5 liter of Miller Lite that seemed taller than I was! I ordered the Sashimi Appetizer which consisted of nine total pieces of Tuna, Yellowtail, and Salmon. I also added the Scallop Sashimi. The fish wasn't the "freshest" I had ever tasted, but it was fine for me to munch on. My date ordered the Hot Rock, which consisted of Fried scallop, tempura onion, cream cheese and cucumber roll topped with avocado, spicy mayo and eel sauce. I was able to steal a piece to taste before my hand was slapped away, and it was very good. But seriously, is there anything that isn't good that Is topped with Japanese spicy mayo? I started with a Blue Moon and then moved to a Redd's Strawberry Ale. It was delicious, but at the end it began to taste a little too sweet for me. Sara was our bartender, and was friendly and efficient. The Rack also has a TouchTunes jukebox! There was country music playing (barf) so I was able to "hijack" the jukebox with the app and we had ourselves a little revival of 80s hair bands! As I immerse myself more into the Yelp cult, I am anxious to find some different sushi places here in Brandon to try out. Until then, the Rack isn't too too bad.

What a disappointment this place was. I loved the Rack at Hyde Park but can't believe they closed down. The Rack here was expensive and they charged 50 cent for every condiments u asked for. Honey mustard, hot sauce, ranch, spicy mayo. And the server was slow and extremely rude. The portion of the sushi was so small for 14 Bucks. Would not come back. I Also warned all my friends not to come here.

My masochist persona will come back to try some of the menu items that looked good. I came to have dinner but their service quickly repelled me to another place. I had a spinach artichoke dip with lobster meat...very bland. I left without trying their sushi (it's a sushi bar) so I will come back with the most festive friends I have to compensate with their service and may be have a good experience that way.

Not a sushi fan but the wings are addicting! The sauce is excellent and I think it may be the Worcestershire that gives it that unique flavor. The blue cheese is the best around. It's made right there in the restaurant. It is the perfect blend or strong chunky blue cheese with a hint of sweetness.

Went for a get together with old school mates. Rented out a room with a pool table, good music & our waitress was awesome. Deffinetly go again.

The rack is fine if you're looking for a bar that thinks of itself as upscale but still serves the college (or even 'post-college") meathead crowd. The sushi is well-prepared and tasty and there's plenty of parking, and even an outdoor area. There are game rooms with pool tables, big TV's and I believe they had WII's as well. Big central bar, Small selection on tap, no surprises. Like I say, if you're just out of college in the last year (or the last 20) and you think it shows how much class you've got to walk around with a gold chain hanging out while nursing a beer, this is your place.

My husband and I stopped in and sat outside. We got there around 8:30 and were one of three groups outside. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were great! However, we were informed that we could not order food through the bar and would need to order through a server. No big deal, we easily found a server and ordered one sushi roll to split. We got drinks and were enjoying watching hockey as we waited for our food. About 10-15 minutes after we ordered, our waitress came back and said that the sushi bar was backed up and our order would take a little longer. Again, no big deal. We ordered another round of drinks, and then another...still no sushi. At this point the bar started filling up, about 30 minutes since we ordered our ONE sushi roll and 20 minutes since she said it would take longer. We could understand this if we had ordered a well burger or something crazy, but 30 minutes for one sushi roll? We continued to wait, and wait, and wait...no sign of our sushi or our server (I should add that the bartenders continued to be great through all of this, but as we couldn't order our food through them I'm not sure if they realized how long it was taking). Finally, a full 55 MINUTES after we had ordered our ONE sushi roll, a different server brought it out and walked away. No "can I get you anything else", no "sorry for the wait". We quickly ate and wanted to head home, but of course our server was nowhere to be found. By that point I'm assuming the bartenders realized we we're annoyed and were able to pull up our food bill so we could cash out. As soon as we had done that, our server FINALLY appeared and asked if we wanted to "put it on a card or pay cash". The bartenders explained that we had already paid through the bar and we left. With 20+ years of serving experience between us, my husband and I are at a loss to understand 1) how ONE sushi roll could possibly take almost an hour, 2) how our server didn't address the long wait, and 3) how we were not addressed by a manager. They were not overly busy and I just cannot imagine a scenario where 55 minute food does not warrant at least a manager visit. We may go back for drinks, like I said, the bartenders were great. But even though the food was good, I can't imagine we will ever eat here again or recommend any of our friends to do so.

I'm not a fan... The first time was the last time.
