Yummy thai food with some pros and cons.. Cons: curry favored wonton wraps ..it's okay ..weak on the favors..but it was included with the lunch special Ice cream with fried banana ..they lied to me..the menu said homemade coconut ice cream..I got store brought vanilla ice cream that's been in the freezer too long ...u know u can tell when u feel/taste bits of ice in there ..my sister thought it was coconut pieces ..I sadly shook my head and said 'no it isn't' Pros: The chicken rice soup that was included with the lunch special.. The house fried rice...nicely done Duck pangang was delicious..extra crispy duck topped with that pangang sauce..hmm..yum Service & decor..awesome! .. definitely coming back when i'm around the area and craving thai..

Great authentic decor! Food...it was decent. I decided to try their Pad Thai based on the previous reviews and was very disappointed. It was sweet, greasy, and way too orange looking. They also didn't give me enough limes/lemons. I also tried their Tom Kha Gai (Coconut chicken soup) and that was a little better than their Pad Thai, but the flavors were still lacking. They definitely skimp on the lemongrass and galanga root, which makes me sad because that's my favorite soup. Kha in Thai means galanga. Hence, the soup should be enhanced by the galanga root and you shouldn't taste just straight coconut milk. It's decent for a quick Thai food fix.

Fabulous Thai. Good quality, well-priced, efficient service, casual atmosphere. Great spot for both lunch and dinner. Everyone I've taken there has loved the place and returned for a repeat visit!

Never been upset with the quality here. Always consistent and awesome. My favorite is the shrimp curry( Thai hot!) with the crab rangoon appetizer.

Went there for lunch and was pleasantly surprised, as having recently moved to Tampa from Los Angeles, I have been disappointed by the food. However, I give Ploy Thai 4 stars, not just by Tampa standards, but by good food standards. The food was very flavorful and the ingredients very fresh.

Nice place. The panang was tasty. I was not crazy about the regular fried rice--it seemed bland and did not have enough veggies. But everything else was very good. The decor is very nice.

Ploy Thai is VERY hit or miss for me. There are day days I go in and it's spot on and then there are others where I wonder why I go in at all. Now, I've never been in for dinner so I can't speak to that, but the lunch portions are fairly priced and taste pretty darn good on their good days. I order mine "Thai hot", but I need the spice rack in addition as it never really comes out with any spice at all. AT ALL. That said- the duck soup lunch special ($8.95) is THE BOMB EVERYTIME.

I am in Thai love. The hubs and I (after always talking about it) finally tried this place out about 3 weeks ago. Since then we've been back 3 more times. Not only is the restaurant beautiful and clean inside; the staff, service and food are spectacular. Our latest visit was a week ago to celebrate the hubs birthday. We had a reservation for 15. Traffic didn't suck (shocker for Brandon) so we arrived kinda early. To our surprise...the table was set up and ready for us. I wanted a snack and a drink and we had about 30 mins to kill...we didn't want to sit at the table yet so we sat at the sushi bar that's off to the side and in the back of the restaurant. I ordered some yellow tail and smoked salmon sashimi and my husband ordered the steak roll. He had a beer and I enjoyed a glass of wine. The sushi maker dude was so nice and funny and the sushi was fresh and so fricken good (note...not only have I found my new favorite place for Thai food but I think I also found my new sushi place as well) OK..so once the rest of our party started to arrive we transitioned to the table. SERVICE WAS PHENOMENAL. Drinks initially came out slow but that was to be expected with such a large party. We ordered apps for the table which came out quick. The apps were the spring rolls- crispy, hot and delicious and curry puffs- tender, hot, and filled with meaty goodness. For my entree I ordered the Emperial duck. The portion was huge and consisted of a very large, perfectly cooked duck breast smothered with the most delicious curry sauce and vegetables. The side of rice was cooked just right and was perfect for soaking up the sauce. Every one in our party, including some folks that had never tried Thai food before loved everything they ate. I'm already thinking about what I am going to order next but I have to pace myself cuz I don't want to look like a Thai food obsessed stalker or something! :-)

Underwhelming is how I'd describe this unfortunate find. My husband and I have had Thai food, authentic Thai food in NYC and this place doesn't hold a candle. After reading the reviews and making a special trip to this restaurant, we were sorely disappointed in their soups and thai basil entree. The restaurant also charges extra for brown rice. The service was lacking--because water glasses were not refilled and they could not deliver two dishes at the same time. The only time service came quickly was when they thought the payment was ready. Needless to say, we will never return to this underwhelimg place that has the nerve to call itself a Thai restaurant.

Ploy Thai is by far my families favorite restaurant. We have probably eaten here 100 times. The crispy duck is incredible, so is the fried eggplant and green curry. I have never been dissatisfied. This is the only place I we have sushi now. If my husband and I want to go alone for a date night we actually have to lie to our children.

I let the owner know that this was my first time trying Thai food, and tried a dish under her recommendation. It had red curry which I didn't like very much. The first few bites were ok but I couldn't go further than that. When she came back I told her I didn't care for the dish and her reply was "next time you can try something else" I was really disappointed she didn't offer for me to try something else. I was going to try the Thai Pad before she suggested this other dish. SIDE NOTE : The sushi was delish. Glad I ordered it otherwise I would have gone to bed hungry.

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious lunch at Ploy Thai. We started with a wonderful chicken sate. The meat was moist, tender and flavorful. The cucumber and peanut dips were scrumptious. The complimentary soup and egg roll were also quite good. My husband ordered pork fried rice - he can't handle spicy and it was a challenge to get him into a Thai restaurant. He loved it. I had ginger chicken, mild. It was wonderful. I love ginger and you could taste the flavor in every awesome morsel. I even got my husband to try it on his pork fried rice. He loved it!!!! Can't wait to go back.

A local favorite that I tried one day with my sister when we were debating whether to drive all the way to Channelside or to use our GPS to find somewhere to it. I'm glad we did! The inside of this place has some of the nicest decorations that I have seen at a Thai restaurant. Gold looking objects surround you and the restaurant has a tranquil feel to it. Even the hallway to the bathroom has some kind of oak or wood that looks amazingly decorated. Service is great and waiters are always available when you need them. They are quick to fill you orders and every time I order Pad Thai here I basically dive into it because it tastes so good. I'm always sad because I get too full to finish it all, but I try! The Thai Tea is also pretty good here, but I find it goes quicker in the glasses that they give you than other Thai places I have been to. It is not one of the cheaper Thai places, but it's well worth the price.

The tom yum soup was ok, wish it was a bit more sour and spicy. The larb gai was alright, I've had better in seattle so my personal preferences are high. The papaya salad was super spicy! Definitely got that thai kick. My mouth was burning! The red curry was yummy and the phad thai was ok. Ambiance and decor is really nice. The service was good too. Just have higher expectations on the food, but then again, its hard to find good asian food in FL.

My sister was in town a few weeks ago and wanted to try a thai place around the area. We found this place and saw the great reviews and decided to try it ourselves. It is a very traditional place and the food is very authentic, if you are into curry and egg plant, you should definitely check this place out if you are in the area!

  • Paul M.

9 of us went there for lunch and it was great service. Usually with that many people, it is hit or miss if they can figure out the order and figure out the bill, but they did an excellent job. I had the green curry with chicken and it was one of the best Thai dishes I have had in a while. I highly recommend this place.

It's good to finally get back to what a real Thai joint is. I must admit, I was apprehensive since I never trust any restaurant, Asian or other, that has multiple cuisines under one roof (Thai...and sushi?). I did not try the sushi, but the duck red curry was fantastic. Crispy duck. Flavorful, real curry. Great service. Authentic decor. Delicious Thai iced tea. Home run.

What a great find. Headed to Chili's to get some work done over dinner on a business trip, I spied a little Thai place a few doors down and decided to take a chance. I'm glad that I did. What a fantastic restaurant. Beautiful decor, great service, and fantastic food. Tom Yum soup was perfect (ordered spicy) as was the Ginger Thai Chicken Curry (also ordered spicy). If you're in the area and like Thai food, definitely check this place out. I'll be back....

This is one of my two favorite Thai places in Brandon. I eat there at least a couple of times a month if not more. The seafood Panang with the lightly breaded and fried Basa is to die for and the peanut sauce which they call Amazing is just that. My wife and I never tire of eating here. The staff is as friendly as you can possibly imagine. Come early though, as it can fill up quickly at lunch time.

Pros: Very nice restaurant The decor from the wood paneling on the walls to the salt shakers to the rice served to you in the shape of a heart is CUTE! Big points for the cute, I love presentation and decor! We started with the rangoons which were super tasty! My boyfriend got Panang curry which was delicious. Service was fast friendly and attentive. Water always refilled without asking, which is important sometimes when you order dishes spicy. Cons: The wonton soup was ok. And my dish... basil chicken was average. I'm sure there are other hidden gems on the menu I will have to discover.

Just being introduced to Thai food, my friend convinced me to try it and we came to Ploy Thai. So glad we did. The food was fresh, elegantly plated and so delicious. The restaurant is quaint, beautifully decorated and the employees even dress the part. Can't wait to eat there again!

Used to be great, but service has been really slow the last few times I've been, not to mention messing up orders the last two times. Also, they seemed to have a roach problem on my last visit (8/10/2012).

My partner and I stumbled upon this place after visiting an adjacent business and while we were viewing the menu on the outside window, a customer walked into the door and recommended this restaurant to us. Despite having my 17-month old kidlet in tow on a Friday night, we went in! The decor is beautiful - striking dark wood with ornate gold carvings on the walls. The servers wear traditional Thai dress and there are beautiful painted porcelain pheasant salt/pepper shakers on the tables. The server was very gracious in providing a high chair, because by looking at the decor, I wasn't sure if kidlet would be welcome on a Friday night! They provided a separate little plate of boiled tofu and rice for her even though it was not on the menu. I had the spicy tofu and my partner had the chef's special of crispy duck. We also ordered the spring roll appetizer. The presentation of the dishes were beautiful, with a carved carrot and a flower on each plate. We also received a complimentary order of the curry puffs for the "early bird special" as well as a soup (vegetarian for me, chicken for my partner). Our entrees were delicious as well! My partner's duck was crispy and moist with a subtle ginger sauce and the vegetables in my spicy tofu were tender-crisp and NOT overcooked at all! I would recommend that if you like your Thai food spicy that you ask for something beyond their idea of hot. I got mine spicy but I thought it was mild-medium. I could have ramped it up much more before I was sniffling or sweating! Prices are reasonable, with all the food we ate (including soda and kidlet's tofu), we still made it out for under $40 (before tip). If you're looking for a place near the Brandon mall that serves great food in a beautiful ambient setting for a reasonable price, look no further than Ploy Thai!

Right when I walked in, I was amazed by the beautiful decor. Everywhere I'd look there was something gold and unique (just look at the photos). Right away this place was fine dining with petite tables and delicate table settings. Even the servers are dressed in colorful Thai attire so I really felt as if we were in Thailand minus the language barrier. They were all friendly and attentive and I especially loved the attention to detail throughout the restaurant. I arrived with a good friend and fellow yelper during lunch time and ordered from the lunch special. I was craving something with seafood so I ordered the Seafood w/ Green Curry, which was really good. It was hardy, sweet and spicy, yet very light. I ordered Thai Hot, but in my opinion it wasn't hot enough. The presentation of the dish was too cute to eat. I also loved how they served us their house soup and crab ragoon which was included with our meal. Everything tasted wonderful and I ended up finishing my dish because the portion was just right. I will definitely return if I am ever back in Brandon again. I'll definitely try something new.

I have no idea why people wait in line at Chili's when Ploy Thai is just two doors down. This place is wonderful. They have a peanut sauce here that my family swears was sent straight from heaven. Get the Vegetable Rama - you won't regret it. The food is always fresh, and the service is quick and polite. I love Ploy Thai! You gotta come to Brandon for the good stuff - it's better than any of the Thai places in Sarasota.

Very good thai food. Nice little classy sitting area. Kinda small and long, narrow. I. Don't suggest you take a bunch of people. You can... Only when it's not busy though. Wait staff is great. Prices are good. And they do take out. Call ahead and normally always ready within 15 minutes.

I am not sure what happened here, but this place now makes horrible Pad Thai. These guys opened a second location and that probably killed this one, the people who now run this location are totally different and not the same people I normally see when I go in. The Sate was dry, the spring roll was greasy, and the Pad Thai brought no spice at all, could not find any pepper flakes in at all. Its time for me to find a new place. I am completely disappointed because I liked going here, but I guess all things must change.

    (1)
  • Breezy N.

Best Thai I have ever had! Spring rolls are fresh and delicious, crab Rangoon with the plum sauce is to die for! Red curry with chicken comes with assorted mixed vegetables that cannot be beat. Thai donuts are the PERFECT sweet ending. I could eat here Daily!!!!

Really disappointed in the meal. Food bland and tasted like the chef was not Thai. The appetizer soup was fragrant and delicate but flavorful. The egg roll minuscule. I did not like it but my husband did. Panang curry was mild and had little flavor. The pad Thai duck special was almost in edible. My husband has never left Pad Thai or duck on his plate but he could only eat half The atmosphere is beautiful

I love the ambiance of the place, I truly do. When you enter the restaurant, you'd feel as if you were instantly transported to Thailand. I was hoping to finally have some delicious Thai food while visiting our clients here in Tampa, but this was a letdown. For some reasons, everything was just TOO sweet, it's as if they sprinkle sugar in everything. From Tom Yum Goong, to my Red Beef Curry, to my Thai Iced Tea, everything was just so sweet! I'm sorry but I recommend that you pass up on this. Not worth the time and money.

What a find... If you take a look at their website you will be swept away - - - they truly achieve the same ambience in person. Do not let their location deceive you. Fresh delicious curry and sushi was pleasing to the pallette. Brandon, Fl seems to be lacking in craftsmanship when in comes to culinary delights, however, Ploy Thai definitely delivers. Thank you for the experience.

The ambiance begins the culinary journey and continues with the top notch food. The wait staff is a well oiled machine that works together to keep all going smoothly. Everything had great flavor from the spring rolls to the curries. I ventured out and tried the pumpkin curry and won my boyfriend over with it. Will be back to try some other specialties.

The environment is surprisingly amazing. It looks like a little whole in the wall restaurant but when you walk in you really feel like you're in Thailand. The decor is beautiful, it's quiet and peaceful, and the staff is friendly and attentive. Most importantly, the food is delicious.

This place is a regular for me. Everything I've had here is fresh and delicious. Surprisingly the sushi was great as well. The pad se ew is the absolute best. It's not on the menu but the still make it. It's delicious. The Thai fried rice is great as well. Great, relaxing atmosphere and great food!

Delicious! This was my first time here and my fourth time having Thai food overall I went with the Pad Thai. It was very good some of the best pad Thai I've had. The food was piping hot and the came out very fast. Like the other Thai restaurant I had been to this one was elegantly decorated. The atmosphere was very calm and relaxed The staff was very friendly and greeted us at the door. The price was pretty good and the portion of food was enough to fill me up without being to full

Great Thai/ sushi restaurant. We had "King Kong" sushi roil and dumplings as an app. The sushi was very good the dumplings were ok ( had better). The dinners were fabulous. We had red curry duck (added pineapple) maybe the best I've ever had and we have been to Thailand 5 times now. Three others had pad Thai, squid green curry and chicken Rama garden All were fabulous. Our waitress was sweet, attentive and friendly. Highly recommend this place

Thai food appears to be my flavor of the month. This is the second Thai Restaurant that I have been to this week. Today I tried the Thai Sweet Tea for my beverage. It was delicious, but very sweet. So sweet, I couldn't drink it all. The waiter must have noticed because he brought me a glass of water without me asking. Also, it probably didn't help that I ordered the Thai Sweet and Sour Chicken:-) Something I thought was unique, was that they had a hanging flip picture album on each table with a picture of the entrées. I have never seen this before. Although the staff was extremely polite, the food was slow getting to my table. As it got a little closer to 9pm, the wait staff seemed to be more interested in preparing for the next day. Somehow the waiter forgot to put in my sushi order. I guess we misunderstood each other. For some reason, you get to the seating area before you get to the hostess stand. I find this awkward.

Chicken rice soup $3 - Big portion, great broth. It's a simple soup consisting of rice and chicken. The garlic flavor in the broth is very good. Panang Curry with Pork $11 - The curry base was creamy and delicious. I enjoyed the cucumbers in this dish. The pork were thinly sliced, but not that tasty. I would try chicken instead. My order was for take out and I ordered a Kirin to drink while I waited. They had a sushi bar in the back that looked good. Beside a small selection of beer, they also offer wine. The service was fast and friendly. The décor inside was elegant consisting with a lot of mahogany.

Best Thai I have ever had. Red curry is perfectly spicy with heaping piles of mixed veggies, not just your typical bell pepper and bamboo shoots. Spring rolls and plum sauce are a perfect appetizer. Yum!

If you crave for South Asian food... This place is one of the best in Tampa... I do come here often and its always been a nice quite ambient place to hang out and enjoy the South Asian culinary. I am no expert nor am I a foodie. But I do love this place.

At one time, this place was the only game in Town, for Thai Food here in Brandon Florida. Of course, there were always better Thai restaurants, and they were either in Tampa, or Lakeland. But, food here WAS reasonably priced, and 1/2 way decent. Pad Thai was always 6.95 here for lunch, your choice of Chicken or Shrimp. We stopped here a few hours ago, sat down, and asked for a Lunch Menu. To our surprise, the lunch portion of Pad Thai has increased in price from 6.95 to 8.50, but wait, it gets even worse. Shrimp Pad Thai is now a dollar extra. That brings the price of a lunch sized serving up to 9.50 a person, not including drinks or tip :( Service was fast and friendly, until I started questioning the owners prices. First, he basically called me a Liar when I told him I used to get the Pad Thai WITH Shrimp for 6.95 on the lunch special. But when I asked him if he was calling me a Liar, he said "That was long time ago". Thanks, but no thanks, we got up and left. We drove up to the Thai Boat Restaurant on Parsons here in Brandon. They do not offer any Lunch Specials, but we got heroic sized plates of Shrimp Pad Thai, absolutely loaded with Shrimp, for the same price as Ploy Thai wanted for a smaller lunch "special", w/o Shrimp.

Located in a strip mall next to Chili's, Ploy Thai doesn't look that exciting from the outside but once you step in, wow! very nice! Along with Thai Thani, one of the best atmospheres for a Thai restaurant. Wooden statue lady greets you at the door as you come in, traditional Thai music adds to the ambience, shrines and whatnot in the decor. Service is very prompt. I went for a midweek late lunch and there were only a few other people seated. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, which only had about 3 pieces of chicken. I told the waiter that the chicken was lacking and he took it back and brought me another dish which had more. So that was nice and the main reason I leaned towards 4 instead of 3. The dish itself was decent. The lunch special also includes soup or egg roll. The owner also swung by my table and was friendly. Great customer service goes a long way!

I absolutely love Thai food. There are many things I like about this restaurant; the menu selection, decor, friendly staff, and cleanliness all great! I was a little disappointed with my dish, though. I ordered the sizzling shrimp, a Ploy specialty dish. When it arrived, it was not sizzling because it was swimming in a pool of sweet and sour sauce. WAY too much sauce! Also, the dish was over $15, and only came with four shrimp and a few pieces of chopped vegetables. Even after the appetizer sampler, when leaving the restaurant I was still hungry. Other than the horrendous amount of sauce, everything was good. I was a little disappointed about the portions, but I will go back and plan accordingly. There are many other things on the menu I want to try! Hopefully, my next experience will be better, & I will update my review accordingly.

I went tonight with my wife. The calamari and ginger salad are very delicious and while my wife enjoyed her meal I did not. At first I ordered the Pad Thai, it smelled like wet dog amd tasted just as horrible. I sent the dish back and then ordered Spicy Noodle. My second bite in I bit into a small piece of metal. When mentioning to the waitress she tried to get me to get yet another new dish. She didnt get a manager and my wife had to get her to delete it off the check. That piece of metal could have serooisly injured me or someone if they got the dish. We are very disappointed in this experience as I've heard great things. We wont be returning and will be sticking to our normal Thai place, Thai X-press

What a discovery! Absolutely LOVE this place; from its delicious (and authentic!) Thai dishes, to its classy-yet-cozy ambiance, to its fantastic waiting staff - Ploy Thai is an absolute gem. We were looking for a good Thai restaurant and while some were pretty yummy, nowhere really knocked our socks off...until we found this place. Hidden in a busy shopping plaza, it's almost easy to miss altogether, but the moment you walk in, you know you've entered somewhere special. The entire atmosphere is so well-done, so genuinely Thai (the owners brought back one-of-a-kind pieces from Thailand and designed the interior of the restaurant with tons of unique touches), that you can't help but be transported. Even the smallest touches make the biggest difference (the salt and pepper shakers on each table, even the restrooms are impeccably done!) As for the food, one word: spectacular. We've traveled a lot, and authentic Thai that really shines is hard to find in Tampa. But here, the dishes were amazing; pad thai, green curry beef, spicy noodles and the tom kha gai soup, all magnificent (with the right combination of spices and herbs). This place packs just the right amount of heat into any spicy dish (their Thai Spicy Beef Salad is to die for!) and upon our fifth visit, we still have yet to find another place that can compete; talk about consistency! They even have sushi, and it is some of the freshest I've had anywhere in Tampa. Try the Volcano roll, the Dancing Eel roll and the Spicy Conch roll for some serious yumminess. Their wakami (seaweed) salad is also so fresh, I couldn't remember the last time I had any that good. Meal after meal, each time we've come, we have never been disappointed :)

I loved this place from the moment I walked in the enviornment and the service was delighting, The sushi was fantastic only thing I was not crazy about was the Pad Thai but the ladies are wonderful, the sushi is moderately priced and the portions are nice. Definitely my new fav sushi place

One of the best Thai restaurants in Hillsborough county. The sushi is very good too with a varied menu for both. Service and wait staff are always available and helpful. The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated/updated. Check it out if you are hungry for some sushi and Thai.

First off the atmosphere will transport you far away from the run of the mill plaza, on the busy street corner...that you're really in! The decor is lovely, the service just as great & the food is delish! Tonight I had the Thai salad, with Pad Thai Chicken & Thai iced tea. The beau ate sushi & chicken & rice soup (which I gladly sampled all of his selections)! This is a great place, prices not too bad, worth it for sure!

Ploy Thai is a smallish restaurant lavishly decorated yet casual. Service was very good- there must have been 3-4 people helping me. Silly me didn't realize that the pot of hot tea they brought to me had the mug on the bottom. How would you know?? It's hidden well! I had the spring rolls ($3.5)which were good but the serving was small- it amounted to one roll cut into quarters. I wish they would do half orders as I was visiting from out of town and could take home leftovers. I ordered the Pad Thai ($10.95) for an entree. It came with shrimp, chicken, sprouts, scallions and ground peanuts. It had a very good flavor but I wish it had had more peanuts. Prices are a little steep, especially if you are going for the take-out. I'd called several times before I drove down to make sure they were open but no one answered the phone. I noticed when I got there they were taking to-go orders on the phone and that I had the correct number. Strange.

With the exception of the price being a little on the high side, I can find nothing to complain about with Ploi Thai. In fact, when you consider similar restaurants, they have a larger seating area, adequate wait staff and amazing food. It is by far one of my favorite restaurants in the Tampa area. One thing I really appreciate is the ambiance that has been created. Having spent a bunch of time in Thailand, this makes you feel like you are right there.

Mediocre at best. Curry was bland and the Pad Thai was a big ball of noodles all stuck together.... sad.

Came in to order take out. I got the famous Pad Thai to go. It was $11.75 after tax. Pros: -Staff was very friendly and did not make me feel rushed or uncomfortable that you may experience at other Asian restaurants. -Food was prepared very fast -Inside was very clean and well taken care of -The Pad Thai was much better than the average places in the area -The quantity was very large and more than I had gotten anywhere else Cons: -This is just an opinion, but I feel it lacked a little flavor. However, I did enjoy the spice. I ordered medium and it was amazing. I just feel it lacked a particular flavor that other places use. Overall, if I am passing by in the future I will definitely come back. The spice and quantity is definitely worth $11. I will try some of there other dishes next time.

Wow. I have to say incredible. We've driven by the place several times and always had that "meh' attitude because of how the plaza looks. Since the wife was craving some crispy duck it came up as having the best reviews for it. Walking in, was a great traditional indian/thai setting with a comfortable small raunt demeanor. We tried the mussel appetizer, while the wife got the Tamarind Duck and I tried the Panang Curry with calamari. Service was prompt, quick and non invasive. Mussels were tasty, but the Duck and Curry were to die for! Portion sizes are definitely reflective of the prices so don't feel like you are going to get gyped. We will be back to at least try the sushi or get more duck seeing as they have at least 2 more styles of it. Happy tastebuds!
