I love to support local businesses and AJ's was such. Great find! We stopped here a while ago when we discovered it after dinner with a sweet tooth for ice cream! This is on a whole different level of any place you've been to! The owner is always so friendly and full of great conversations! He makes all of his ice by hand which nowadays you never see! The flavors are always changing and every one is a tastebudn explosion of enjoyment! You can just feel the quality of ingredients with every bite! I will definitely continue to come back to AJ's and I recommend anyone to think twice next time you want to run to sonic or McDonald's for a sundae because you'll be missing out!

My partner and our daughter came in the other night on a lark - and wow! We'll be back time and again. The owner: super nice - super passionate! It was awesome talking about his flavors, his product development, his ingredient sourcing, and his AWESOME ICE CREAM. The ice cream: AMAZING. Huge flavor, and what a wonderful texture! We loved that he only had a limited selection because it was clear he only offers the best. There were some unusual flavors on that were awesome (raspberry coffee!!?!?), but the standards were equally amazing. The strawberry ice cream was just stunning. Oh, and the chocolate sauce... Mmmm....

Tonight my wife and I stopped by A&J's for some dessert on our way home. This wasn't our first time and it certainly won't be our last. This place is a gem in Atlantic Beach. The owner makes everything from scratch, offering about twelve different flavors. Initially, that might not sound like anything to write home about...until you hear the flavors. Tonight his features included a baileys fudge (yes the alcohol), peppermint mochaccino, and cinnamon French toast, as well as a grapefruit strawberry sorbet for those healthy types. Some of his staples include Dutch chocolate, vanilla, and butter pecan. I don't expect those features to be there next time though because every time we go he has another crazy flavor that'll completely blow us away. He is truly the mad scientist of ice cream.

Unbelievable place, a landmark stop in 20 years. Where else can you get ice cream made in a 100 year old machine right on site. The fresh made waffle cones were good too. The owner is passionate about his ice cream.

Wow...we happened upon A&Js after realizing the shaved ice place was closed. Wow!!! All home made...great flavors...so so so creamy! I had the caramel coffee and he had a scoop of the Orange and strawberry. The owner was there and very friendly. We will definitely be back!

Go NOW and support your local HOMEMADE Ice Cream Man. Mexican Chocolate...Thai Orange....Usually 6 or 7 flavors to choose from. Because they are homemade in house you may not get the same choice every time. Excellent Pistachio. Last night it was Raspberry with white chocolate pretzel. Oh, and did I mention that all the waffle cones are also made in house by hand.

Simple . Place has really good, decadent ice cream, but not too heavy either. A really good mix between a rich creamy Type, and something for the warm weather. The flavors are homemade!! Not big chain flavors. Definitely something different.

On a visit from Seattle and stopped in near closing. The server was very friendly and provided very good service. The ice cream was flavorful with a good variety of flavors to chose from. We had Sunday's, Waffle cones and cups of ice cream. Each one tasted great and made for the perfect way to end the evening. Highly recommend stopping in and getting some ice cream!

This ice cream is so good! It's rich and creamy. Flavors change regularly because they only use fresh local ingredients! Fresh berry chip is to die for! Trust me!

Freshly made old fashioned ice cream made in a 1914 churn with fresh local ingredients. Delicious waffle cone sundaes. Locally owned and operated by the guy behind the counter. Very friendly and warm environment.

Simple old fashioned ice cream churned in side the store! Tastes great, just like when I was a kid hand churning!

APB - Don't Miss This!! The guy, Josh, was doing Physics Research & translated it to making ice cream. It is REALLY GOOD. I had the Pistachio PB Fudge (love - love) & at his recommendation, Mexican Chocolate (w/ a hint of orange). In a dish together they were great. I must admit I saved the Pistachio PB Fudge (w/ PB chunks) for the end. My best buddy had the Dutch Chocolate in one of his honest to goodness, HOMEMADE WAFFLE cones. How many times can we come here in our 2-night stay!?

My mom stumbled upon this venue after picking up her shoes being repaired next door. She told me they had an old fashioned ice cream maker, and had excellent food. I was not disappointed after coming tonight and buying a homemade waffle cone with salty peanut butter chocolate within. The restaurant owner was just as sweet as the ice cream. I look forward to coming back, and trying some of the famous brisket.

Have you ever seen the Broadway play "All that Jazz? There is a song sung in one part with the words "Dance ten, looks three" which basically laments her amazing dance ability but her less than stellar looks. What does this have to do with AJ's? Well AJ's is kind of like the song. The ten? Well that would be the ice cream, pure delicious homemade goodness. The Dutch Chocolate I had was amazing and my second scoop of French Vanilla equally as good. My wife said the same about her Butter Pecan. Her only other comment was that her same of Salted Caramel was, well, too salty. But for me, that is just a matter of preference. The three? Well, kind of everything else. The sitting area was reasonably clean, but the area where the ice cream is churned was not as clean. Seats were haphazardly arranged. A model of a bridge kept you from using the ledge by the front window and the owner appeared to be working on some things as he had his computer, papers and chords strewn about on one of the sitting area tables. So I guess, if you love dance then enjoy the ice cream. If you are into looks, maybe Ohana or another spot will be what you are looking for.

This is a true original. The ice cream is creamy with different flavors. Tonight I had coffee caramel and amaretto sugar cone. Oh my! The owner was serving tonight. He was knowledgeable and interesting. He shared his enthusiasm with us. The ice cream machine is an antique that he has redesigned to work on electricity. Stop by and enjoy. We will be back.

Best Icecream ever.. Aj has the most unique and homemade flavor selection, from fresh ingredients like garden grown mint and kumbucha. It smells of fresh waffle cones being made, and he is somewhat of an ice artist! May not be a chain or the fanciest around but he focuses on his icecream trade !! Incredible

This place is absolutely amazing. As we walk in the hipster behind the counter is making waffle cones fresh and hot. Quickly we found out this is the real deal ice cream experience. we sampled a few cold treats and decide on a custom ice cream blend. Before I knew it I had a warm waffle cone with an amazing party of ice cream treats on top. Let's just say this I have to stop typing so I can get some more ice cream in my belly!

Nice place for an ice cream fix. What is nice about this place is that you can go there any day of the week and get something different because each day it is a new type of ice cream. I tried the amaretto cheesecake and it was great. The ice cream is made in an antique churn set up in view of everyone. All the ingredients are natural. Even better. Got to go there. The owner will love to talk about the place. This place isn't a chain and it is great excuse to head to the beaches

This place is AWESOME! ! The ice cream is seriously THE BEST I've ever had. And I love ice cream. It's easy to miss the place but worth looking for. Waffle cones are so good, it even smells amazing in here. And the guy who runs it might be the friendliest business owner I've ever met!!

So glad we found this place. Amazing ice cream delivered by the most friendly staff. They always have new and delicious flavors. It's not far from the beach and you won't find anything better anywhere near it.

I don't always give 5 stars, when I do it's because the place is incredible!!! Pistachio fudge is mind blowing

This place is fantastic. Old fashioned ice cream churn, nice vibe, the guy who runs it is super friendly, etc. I would say that it's the best ice cream you're likely to get in Jacksonville, but i don't think the compliment is generous enough. This is some of the best ice cream you're likely to get anywhere, full stop. If you're in the neighborhood, check it out. Even if you're not in the neighborhood, make a trip - it's worth it.

Took the family by for some ice cream. Had heard about it and wanted to try it. The owner is super nice and definitely loves what he does. looking forward to going back and trying other flavors. Ice cream made right there and he tries to use locally-sourced ingredients when he can. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed.
