Before you walk into the restaurant, you can smell the delicious Cuban food on the sidewalk. When you walk in, you order at the counter, pay, and seat yourself. Someone brings out your food to you. I ordered the churrasco with black beans, rice and tostones. My husband ordered vaca frita with the same sides as me. The food was so delicious and authentic, majority of the customers were Latino, that's always a good sign. I was let down when there wasn't lechon or any pork on the menu. The owners are Seventh Day Adventists and don't prepare pork. The also have espresso, Cuban pastries, and ice cream if you care for dessert!

The summary - food, cafeteria feeling to all but one portion of the restaurant. The Quality And quantity of the food is the reason this isn't 2 stars for us... And even that was a really rough decision. There is a small section of 3 or 4 booths on the west side of the restaurant that has a reasonable ambiance and acceptable lighting.... The rest? Cafeteria fluorescent look and feel. Ummmm. Yuk. I ordered the shredded beef and Christine had the strip steak. We both ate portions of each other's meal - what can I say... We're chicks and wanted to taste both lol. We both agreed the shredded beef (#3 on the menu) was yummy. The strip steak was over marinades and aggressively over spiced... And yes we both love Cuban food and eat it regularly. The house hot sauce was simply amazingly good. I ordered he house salad and was told one came on the plate and didn't need a side salad... Look at the picture! Even a lonely sprig of dandelion growing in the wild would have a hard time calling this a salad. I should have ordered the side salad. Yes on the picture the "salad" is the 1/4 cup of lettuce his in under the slice of tomato. The 7 fries on my dinner platter were lonely so I grouped some with Christine's 4 plantains. Ha! Black beans were awesome! Restaurant and restrooms were immaculately clean. Another disturbing item was quite a few large tv's tuned to whatever channel plays the world's funniest videos. Really? Really? Yup, I just can't make this stuff up. "Meh" and no personally we would Not return.

Best Cuban food ever! It's a cute and clean shop. My husband and I split the Cuban sandwich and a side of black beans and yellow rice. 9 times or of 10 I take half of my meal home for leftovers. Not this time! My tummy kept saying it was full, but my taste buds were craving more. I intended on taking a picture of our food, but we ate it all. They also do live music, may cover back for that one night.

Ordered delivery from the Yelp app. Food came quickly and without incident. Media Noche was very good. Sweet bread, good ham, pickle and melted just right. We will definitely throw this place into the delivery rotation. Who doesn't like good Cuban food?

Wow wow wow!!!! AMAZING. Big fat breaded chicken breast topped with onions, white rice, black beans, tostones, small salad, mojito sauce and a drink for under $12. Will be back soon

Great little place -- nothing fancy but wonderful food, live music sometimes, and if you want a full meal or a snack, you can be sure it'll be delish. Order the spinach and cheese empanadas and a drink, get out for under $10.00. Kids are fine, the workers are friendly and will help you if you don't know what something is. The owners are Seventh-day Adventists, which means no pork, and the place is closed sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. Go there on a Saturday night, expect a line.

We were excited at the yelp reviews and we tried a Cuban(not traditional) that was mediocre at best and the Chicken Fricase that was worth every penny nice portion and tastee!

Since the place opened I have been a steady customer. But noticed the prices rise as much as an upscale restaurant. The food is good and plentiful, but I have learned the hard way not to take food to go on slow days. Twice I have ordered food like marinated chicken breast and got home and it was hard and dry as if it was sitting around and reheated. Then recently I ordered the fried breaded chicken breast to go and it was overly fried (burnt) greasy and hard as if it had been laying around and dipped in oil again to reheat. For $14.00 I feel the chicken should be fresh and tender, I had always waited at least twenty minutes for the breaded chicken breast, this time it came out in about ten minutes, this should have been a red flag that it was not freshly cooked. For this price this restaurant should not be compared to a heat lamp fast food place.

I'm torn on what to give since it's really a 3.5, but I was a bit underwhelmed, so I'm rounding down. The food was quite good, but the service was lackluster. I ordered the ropa vieja sandwich with a side of tostones to go. The food was great, and those were the best tostones I've had in recent memory. The ropa vieja was juicy and lightly seasoned. I would have liked more seasoning, but I'm glad it wasn't super salty. The woman taking orders was polite and friendly but very distracted by something else that was going on. I'm not sure what, but it was enough to where everyone noticed that there was some confusion going on behind the scenes. Still, not an issue, just not great. My only real complaint is that there aren't any small take out cups for any sauces or toppings that are off to the side of the front counter. I would have liked to take some hot sauce with me, but the employees were all busy and I didn't want to interrupt anyone. I probably won't go back only because I am rarely in the area and would prefer to not spend as much as I did (though it was still fairly cheap, $7 for a 6 inch sandwich, tostones and a drink).

I absolute love this place! The food is great and so is the service! I am vegetarian and I normally struggle to find something filling in Cuban food joints but not Herbers. I can get a veggie steak dish which is delicious or I can get the Cuban veggie sandwich ( my personal fav). Both are super filling. They also have a great hot sauce and killer mojo. I highly recommend this place!

Seeing as i was now over 200 miles from cuba, i was a little hesitant to try this place. Why? F if i know, but i'm glad that i did. I had the palomilla steak combo (drink is seperate) and everything on the plate was just right - except for the black beans.. not that they were bad, but there was something off about them. Even though there was a lot going on the plate, turn around here was pretty quick (maybe it's a central florida thing?). This is a "fill your own drinks" kind of place. Nothing too exciting about the atmosphere. It would be good for a casual lunch - or breakfast. I took a peak at the breakfast menu and wished i had gotten there 20 monutes earlier, breakfast ends at 11:30.

It's time I reviewed this awesome little spot. I have been coming to Heber's since just about the time they opened, and I feel like it has gotten better and better with each visit. Cuban food can be hit or miss around Orlando. Where a lot of places in town get it wrong, Heber's gets it right. The food is simple but delicious, and authentic. Nothing crazy or trendy here, just great Cuban food. You walk up to a counter to order where you will find a refrigerator cabinet stocked with the usual cans of coco rico, jupiña, agua de coco, iron beer, and of course, malta behind the register. You pay, seat yourself, and your food is brought out to you. The service is always fast, and the portions are generous. They serve breakfast, make batidos (shakes), Cuban coffee of course and I saw recently they have ice cream! Also, for those of you who know what Cuban spaghetti is (for those who don't: yes, it's a thing) you can get it at Heber's! It is totally on par with Rey's or Montes de Oca in Miami, and I have yet to see any other places in the area offer it. (Pizza too!) *Please note that as other reviewers have mentioned, Heber's is closed on Friday nights and Saturdays as their owners are seventh-day Adventist. This is good news for vegetarians because they have an awesome homemade veggie "steak" on the menu that is sooooooo delicious. However, you won't find pork on the menu here. STAY WITH ME, PEOPLE!! I know that a Cuban restaurant without pork may come as a shock to most of you, maybe even downright wrong, but trust me- you won't miss it here. They do awesome vaca frita and the picadillo is my personal fave.

I've been here several times, right after the opened. This return visit was after they had expanded and I was happy to see they are doing so well in the area. There are plenty of places offering competition so they must be offering some really good food and service. We arrived and entered in to the line to order. The menus were easy to read on the big screens and the prices were very reasonable. We ordered a Cuban sandwich, and palomilla steak (and another flank steak I forget the name). All of which were tasty and good except for the Cuban sandwich which had stale bread. The sides were as to be expected, rice and beans, plantains, yuca. Well worth the visit. We will return!

This place was such a pleasant surprise! It's hard to find good authentic cuban food and I'm very happy I found it close to home. Definitely wasn't expecting much from Heber's the first time I walked in; the restaurant is small and the walls are covered with tacky and unappetizing pictures of the food. Luckily the smell was on point! My boyfriend and I both got the ropa vieja, even though it wasn't traditional it was very flavorful and we both finished our plates within minutes. The serving size was huge and it came with two choice sides (we opted for rice and beans) and some sweet plantains. I was so stuffed after the meal that it was difficult to drive home! A satisfying dinner for only $10? Sign me up anytime

Just had Herber's Cuban Cafe cater for a lunch at a large doctor's office! Everything was perfect and delicious! Food arrived on time, owner was very polite and dressed clean and neat, and the taste of the food is excellent! The party loved it. I ordered: Pechuga, Yuca Fries, white rice, Ropa Vieja, yummy yellow rice, black beans, sweet plantains, and large house salad. The mojito dressing is very tasty!!! All food tasted fresh, was warm, and great portion sizes! The bill was very cheap considering the amount of food AND delivery!!! Great lunch!

More Cuban sandwich than you can shake a stick at, great yuca fries, and a drink all for around $7 is truly a great deal for lunch. Perhaps not the absolute best cuban I've ever had (that would be from some of my old cuban neighbors) but still very delicious. Give this mom and pop a shot.

I somehow found this place by accident, was going to the Subway next door and saw this little restaurant and decided to venture into. I got the shredded beef to go. It came to $9.00 something, wasn't impressed with it, too salty and not much flavor to it. I somehow got a feeling that I should just stick to the Cuban sandwich, but I wanted to do something different. I'm willing to try other things on their menu, but definitely not the beef.

A solid Cuban restaurant, especially considering it is located in Apopka. You order at the counter then are given a number to take back to your table. I settled on the Cuban sandwich, which had a little twist: fried shoe string potatoes. I also tried the yucca, plantains and papa rellenos. I must say my favorite side, hands down, were the plantains. They were the perfect texture- not too mushy, not too stiff. They were perfectly sweetened and flavored. The yucca was just OK- some bites were cooked well, some were undercooked. The accompanying sauce was yummy. The papa rellenos was solid- the outside was lightly browned, the potato inside soft and the beef had a nice flavor. My son had a pizza from the kids menu. It was his own little pie and was surprisingly good. Yeah, I know, pizza in a Cuban place? But they actually have a section on the menu devoted to pizzas. We took our food to-go, but waited inside. The restaurant inside could use a little help. It reminded me of the Subway next door, just with some Cuban decor spread about. Still, a great little find. We will definitely be back.

I ordered a regular Cuban sandwich, it was delicious, huge, fairly priced, and filling! I actually had left overs! (Which never happens) I can't wait to try everything else on their menu! I got everything to-go to but next time I think I'll stick around to dine!

We just moved to this area from Miami (where I was born and raised) and have been to several local restaurants claiming to be Cuban but that didn't even make a decent cafe con leche! I was about to give up when I found Heber's on Yelp. What a relief! Although it's a drive for us, it's well worth it! We had great cafecito and a perfect cuban breakfast, complete with tostada "bien plastada". (I'm a gringo, so forgive any errors). The service was excellent- the owners are there and working- and the restaurant is attractive and kept very clean. This is a real find-- we will be returning often!

WOW. This cafe is amazing. The food is so good that I regretted not being able to finish the ropa vieja, since the portions were so large. I keep dreaming about it, and though it's far from my house, I contemplated heading over there just to get more the next day. If you want down home, authentic Cuban food, then drop your other favorite and come here. I've been there twice, and both times my taste buds and salivary glands were more than happy. Granted, it's not a fine dining establishment (there are large TVs with silent ads), but what down home & authentic Cuban restaurant would be? Head there for good food.

I'm upgrading Heber's to four stars! I previously wrote something about their beans being too salty. I am not sure what I was talking about... their beans are awesome! My husband and I went there today and both got numero unos (palomilla steak dinners). During a recent trip to Miami we were introduced to palomilla (a popular Cuban style steak) and fell in love. So when we went to Heber's today for an early dinner, we immediately wanted to try another version of palomilla. It did not disappoint! It was a very traditional style with a light marinade and slightly cooked onions on top. Paired with rice, beans and sweet plantains - I was in heaven all over again. They also add a nice display of tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce to the plate. We both ate every single bite. Well, there actually was a little pile of lettuce left on both of our plates. (Hey, there was no room! At least we ate the tomatoes and cucumbers.) As usual, don't forget to ask for their garlic sauce. :)

Heber's has continued to improve each time I have been there and I am please to up their rating a star. The food is more consistent and is good. Be sure to ask for some mojo (pronounced moe hoe) sauce - if you like garlic you will love it. I have had their yuca fries a few times and find them to be almost sweet, which was a nice surprise! Keep up the work, Heber's!

I ordered takeout from here last night. I love Cuban food and have not been able to find anything that's even close to food from Miami, Tampa, myself, or my husbands mother. This place was awesome! I never eat my whole plate of food but my husband and i both gobbled down the whole thing. I ordered the picadillo and it was very yummy. No big chunks of beef or olives, the rice was so fluffy, and the tostones were very good with the garlic sauce that came with it. My husband got the grilled chicken and i had a bite. Loved the onions on top and it was very lemony. My husbands rice was cruncher which made me think his scoop came from the side of the bowl. The plantains had a good caramelized crust on them. The beans were a little lacking but were still okay. I make better beans :) My only complaint came from ordering. I was put on hold then hung up on. Called back and gave my order and name then once i hung up realized i wasn't given a price or a time to pick up. When my husband went to pick up the food the wrong name was on the order and he said some lady ran away from him and they seemed a little frantic behind the counter. I don't know i wasn't there and i was only half listening to my husband tell me the story. Overall the food was tasty and i will be back. I look forward to trying their coffee and Cuban sandwich.

AMAZING cuban subs. Ropa vieja was also great. Haven't tried the plantains yet but they look good in the pictures. I must admit, the first time I came here, I walked out after a few minutes because there were several other patrons in line and nobody at the counter taking orders. I'm glad I gave them another shot.

I'm embarrassed to say that I've been going to Heber's for years and I have never submitted a review or photos. I received a yelp email the other day about local Cuban restaurants, and Heber's was featured. I had lunch there again today. So, here goes! I think Heber's is one of the best Cuban places around Orlando. I do agree with previous reviews that their portions are on the large side, but it's never stopped me from going ;-) I usually get the chicken or steak. They've recently added churrasco n chimichurri to their menu and it's muy bien. I've also been for breakfast and I especially enjoy their cafe con leche. I don't know how accurate this observation is, but I feel like the food is at it's best whenever Heber is actually there (which I believe is nearly every day). However, I've noticed on the rare occasions when he or his wife aren't there, it's a tad off. But overall, their food has always been delicioso!

Anytime I go to a place w/ a Cuban or Philly I try it. That to me is a measuring stick to whether or not I will return. Heber's has one of the best Cuban sandwiches I have had in a long time. $5 for a great foot long Cuban is never a bad thing. Being very close in proximity to my home also scores points.

Breaded steak with an awesome atmosphere. It's a winning combo. Can't wait to go back to try everything else.
